“i’ll keep you safe” prompts ˗ˏˋ ꒰ 🍊 ꒱
⋆ “i can stay the night, y’know. if it’d make you feel better.”
⋆ “try and get some sleep. i’ll stay right here- i won’t let anything happen to you, i swear.”
⋆ “you should’ve told me this was going on. i would’ve put a stop to it the second i heard about it.”
⋆ “no one gets to treat you like that, you hear me? no one.”
⋆ “either go to bed and get some rest willingly, or i will drag your ass down the hall kicking and screaming. you know i’ll have no problem with either option.”
⋆ “you must be freezing- here, take my jacket.”
⋆ “this place is dicey at the best of times. just take my hand until we’re clear of it, yeah?”
⋆ “anyone touches you, says anything to you, so much as looks at you the wrong way- you come get me, and i’ll set them straight. understand?”
⋆ “i’m not jealous. i just know the intentions that someone like that has for you, even if you claim not to see them yourself.”
⋆ “stay behind me, no matter what.”
⋆ "i know you can't believe it yet, but i promise you can trust me. whenever you're ready to rely on me, i'll be here for you. i swear it."
⋆ “i like seeing you this way. so… at ease. makes me wonder how anyone could ever purposely put you under stress and live with themselves afterwards.”
⋆ “shut up and just let me take care of you!”
⋆ “this isn’t up for discussion. i know you’re used to looking out for yourself, but i need you to understand that you don’t have to live like that anymore. i’m here. for as long as i’m around, i’m going to come between you and anything that wants to hurt you.”
⋆ “no one’s ever going to hurt you again. i promise you that on everything i believe in.”

Ellie doesn’t start aging until her existential age matches her physical one
34 year old Ghost King Danny
20 year old Ellie
Ellie calls Danny dad
Ellie joined JL/D
Ellie wanted to show her dad the space station (JL agreed on the premise of Interdimensional diplomacy)
Constantine is at the station that day.
Constantine is familiar with ghost culture.
Constantine wants to make a good impression on the very attractive Ghost King.
The JL/D are horrified by Constantine strutting up to the king of the infinite realms and punching him in the face
After a (powers included?) scuffle danny wins and they both help each other up while laughing
Cue Constantine “charm”
Additional bits and bobs. take em or leave em
1. Danny freezing one of johns cigarettes and john defrosting it
2. Danny’s ecto powers and john’s magic twist and warp together when combined
3. Ellie tormenting john for flirting with her dad
4. Dante (Dan) spends his time in hell “play”fighting demons with his daughter little friend Astra (john did save her she just likes to play with ghosts)
5. Connie gets the shovel talk from Danny’s loved ones, jazz’s shovel talk is the scariest.
6. Clockwork is deeply amused that danny ends up dating the only other person who’s future he can’t see
7. Deadman fangirls over King phantom?
this is up for grabs to anybody who want to use it (please tag me if you do)

The Englishman - Can Love Go The Distance? by Helena Halme
This book has been on my ‘shelf’ since it first came out in 2013 which isn’t the longest a book has been there by a long shot, but it’s still long enough.
Halme brings Finland and indeed, the UK, of the 1980s alive with little details, not least the music. I found the cultural differences between the different Nordic countries also interesting. For me, anyone that reads these posts will know that ‘women’s fiction’ is not really my thing but having said that, Halme kept me turning the pages and I didn’t swear at the characters’ behaviour in the normal way I do in this genre.
If you like true life romance then this is for you. If you like social commentary then this is for you. If you want to know about life in Finland and the relationships with Sweden and Russia, then this is book definitely for you.

Balzac, Dumas and Hugo had their differences. but they all share the common basic belief that introducing their mysterious protagonist through their most recent disguise is a hell of a power move

Still more important is the realization that all those generations of British people (largely men), who were educated in the classics, were being taught to understand and sympathize with the Greeks and Romans. When thinking of the long confrontation between the Celts and Romans, therefore they instinctively sided with the Romans. They would have all read Tacitus' warning: "Remember, they are barbarians..." For the Romans were seen as the bearers of civilization and the ancient Britons as the uncivilized.....
All manner of pressure was brought to bear to ensure that British schoolboys empathized with Rome. From the sixteenth century to the mid-twentieth, every educated person was required to learn Latin. Caesar and Tacitus were among the very first authors which all those pupils were obliged to read. Yet no one taught them anything about the Celts, let alone a Celtic language. Even today, when the teaching of classics in the United Kingdom has sharply declined and Celtic studies receive a measure of official support, for every British schoolchild that learns even a little about the native Celtic heritage, there are a hundred that still learn about the heritage of Rome.
A whole literary genre was devoted to strengthening the bond of identity between the modern Britons and the Ancient Romans. Any number of books and poems have been written to invite the reader to stand in Roman shoes, to put oneself shoulder to shoulder with the legions in the eternal struggle of civilization against barbarity.
-Norman Davies, The Isles

Alternate Timelines of Ravenous Butterfly
Auguste vs. the Frenchman - Compared to his modern self, the past version of Auguste is a small, scrappy, heavily malnourished man with an unusual face and build due to genetic disorders that wouldn't be understood for at least a few hundred more years. As such, he has lived a life of isolation and mistreatment, and comes across as extremely withdrawn and apathetic - seeming to lack any and all force or drive. He's actually incredible determined and introspective, and deeply craves meaningful human contact.
Raymond Henry vs. the Patient - Raymond's 1900's self is almost indistinguishable from his modern self. Both have a (well-earned) resting bitch face, dry sense of humor, and crushing pessimism. The 1900's Raymond is a little more polite, self-defeated, and mature, whereas the 2010's Raymond is frankly mean, and poisoned by the internet. If you stuck them in a room together, you'd have trouble telling them apart, until you had a conversation with either.
Jamie Lovat vs. The Englishman -  His 1800's counterpart is considerably gothier than his modern equivalent, with naturally jet black hair, and a much more reserved personality. He is also without spectacles in the past (despite being just as vision impaired), as getting glasses that fit around his head is difficult under the circumstances. Given the opportunity, however, he will absolutely wear eyeliner.

May, according to F1 insider U2 is about to release a diss track about Christian Horner because his victim is the sister of the guitarist's son-in-law
I did not have "U2 releasing a diss track about Christian Horner" on my 2024 bingo card, and yet here we are.

both love and hate when sandman fans write hob as calling dream "duck". it's adorable but also that's what my nan calls me so it immediately kills all homoerotic tension for me and instead makes it vaguely, deliriously hilarious
