I've been seeing a lot of posts about the Congolese mining operations that is also causing a genocide (good). But a lot of those posts are only referencing cobalt (used in lithium ion batteries) and not referencing coltan (used in every smart device currently in existence). The mining operations for both is really fucking bad. Please try to mention both in any posts drawing attention to the horrors going on in the Congo.

advice i think we should tell children is that when adults say stuff like ‘now that i’m an adult i get really excited about stuff like coffee tables and bathrooms and rugs etc’ they don’t mean ‘and now i don’t care about blorbo and squimbus from my childhood tv shows anymore’ bc your average adult still loves all the same pop culture stuff they always did; they just have a greater appreciation for the mundane as well. growing up just means you can enjoy life twice as much now. you can get really excited about a new stuffed animal AND about a new kitchen sponge. peace and love

GLOBAL STRIKE FOR PALESTINE! 12-12-2023
Why do we strike?
Because the United Nations General Assembly will vote tomorrow, Tuesday 12-12, on a ceasefire in Gaza for humanitarian reasons. This vote must not fail as the Security Council vote failed. The ceasefire must take place.
Do not allow business as usual. You can participate no matter what country you are in by:
Not buying anything.
Not going into work.
Not going to classes.
Protesting, posting, sharing. Also, please look out for any news about future strikes as this is far from the last one, thank you.
According to TikTok vids I saw yesterday, this was supposed to be today? This is why I can't get behind these global/countrywide strike actions. There's no actual organization; just a bunch of people talking instead of like putting in the work to make it happen. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

things to ask yourself when designing a female character:
how much blood is she covered in
are her eyes filled with madness
can she rip things to shreds with her fingernails

I think we need to get more comfortable with the idea that sometimes shitty, racist, homophobic, bigoted people are still incredibly talented.
I feel like every time I see a post addressing someone’s shitty behavior the post also takes the time to mention that they’re not even good at [x] anyway. And that’s just not always true? Equating being good at a skill as being morally good is just not necessary. Someone can be a fantastic writer, can have a beautiful singing voice, can create breathtaking artwork, and still be a horrible person.
I know part of this is probably just the instinct to dislike everything about a person when you dislike them, but I also think this mindset leads to people defending creatives way past where they should, because if bad people create bad art, then if this person creates art that I like and resonates with me, then they can’t be a bad person!
And you know. That’s just not true. Those two things are simply completely unconnected and I think it’d be healthier if we all started disconnecting them in our heads.
