4 habits that will change your life ✨

istighfar x100 a day

i cannot stress enough how powerful istighfar is. when i first started doing this x100 a day, i almost told my therapist i don't need therapy anymore because life suddenly got so much better lol. obviously, that didn't last because life isn't consistent and stable like that. nonetheless, istighfar protects you, it gives you strength through Allah's Mercy, it brings you closer to Him, it grants you peace and happiness. it doesn't take too long to do 100 times a day. just sit there after a prayer, i picked fajr, and recite 'astagfirullah' on your fingers like you would usually do tasbih after salah, or use beads etc. it takes about 5 minutes of your day and will change your life. try it every day for 1 week and see what happens.

dhikr when you wake up and before you go to bed

by doing this, you're starting and ending your day with the remembrance of Allah. my grandma used to say that the way you start your morning determines the rest of your day. it's also scientifically proven that the first thing your brain gets dopamine from is what your brain is going to look for the rest of the day. for eg, if you go on your phone as soon as you wake up, you're more likely to be tapping your phone, scrolling, going on your phone for the rest of the day. because it sets the tone!

so, if you start your day with the remembrance of Allah, not only are you getting blessings for it and improving your relationship with Him, but you'll set the tone for the rest of the day and will probably be more inclined to do dhikr later on too. i can testify that it definitely works. it's the best way to get your day started.

and when you end with dhikr, it's the same thing but in reverse--a peaceful way to end the day, easier to fall asleep and a great way to feel connected to Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ. it's also scientifically proven that the condition you fall asleep in usually stays with the person all night. think about a time you've had such a good day/night and you fall asleep happy. did you wake up feeling good? what about when you've fallen asleep crying or upset? maybe the sleep was so good after but did you still wake up happy? so, if you go to sleep in a state of remembering Allah, you'll likely wake up in that state too.

now think about the benefits of doing dhikr as you go to bed and wake up every single day. you'll always be in a state of the remembrance of Allah! the Prophet ﷺ used to recite the last three surah's of the qur'an, ayatul kursi and the last two verses of surah baqarah. you can do any dhikr you'd like, 'subhanallah wa bihamdi' or 'alhamdulillah' or 'astagfirullah'. pick whatever you like.

surah mulk before bed

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"There is a surah in the Qur'an, with thirty verses, which will intercede for its companion (the one who recites it) until he is forgiven: Tabarakal-ladhi bi yadihil mulk (Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the Dominion)." - Surah Mulk (Sunan Ibn Majah 3786)

surah mulk has lots of benefits, and Abdullah bin Mas‘ud (one of the companions of our beloved Prophet ﷺ) narrated that “whoever recites Surah al-Mulk every night, Allah will prevent the punishment of grave by this Surah”. 

so clearly, there are a lot of benefits by reciting this surah that we will thank ourselves for in the next life - preparing for our akhirah (afterlife) is very important. you'll also end your day with the remembrance of Allah and have the specific reminder through this surah that everything belongs to Allah and is under His control. it helps me have nice dreams too.

it's not very long, it has 30 verses so it won't take a really long time.

learning a new surah bimonthly

this helps you build a relationship with the Qur'an and is a nice challenge for you to incorporate into your life. i recommend reading the translation and commentary of the surah first, so that you don't simply memorise it but know what it's about, what Allah is trying to say with the chapter and how you can live by it. but incorporating the memorisation of Allah's words into your life is a gamechanger: you'll build a bond with Allah, with the Qur'an and also with your salah too. because it's always exciting to be able to recite a new surah in your prayers - being able to do that multiple times a year is great.

start small and you will turn these all of these into habits. remember that the Prophet ﷺ said that 'the best of deeds are those which are done consistently, even if it is a little' (Sunan Ibn Majah 4240). what do we call things that are done consistently? habits!

start with one and do it every day for 30 days. then keep going and slowly add another once the first one has become fully established as a habit. sometimes we want to rush and do everything all at once and change our lives overnight. that's the worst thing to do because you'll either never do it or, you will start, then become so overwhelmed with so many new things to do that the habits won't stay and won't be long term. don't worry, we have our whole lives :) start slow and your life will change for the better. may Allah make it easy for us all, Ameen ♡

The city never sleep,  and Mike seemed to follow suit on that pattern,  not that was such unusual thing for him.  Except he found himself dreading his current predicament,  as legs aimlessly dragged him around a city that should be unfamiliar to him,  after all he had been here for just short of a handful of months ( for the cases,  always his excuse ),  and yet,  he felt like he couldn’t look around without being reminded of him,  utterly bewildered by the way his own mind so easily etched the thought of Will in every single part of the town.

Perhaps San Diego was going to be written down in his imaginary list alongside Hawkins of cities he’d rather not step foot in for as long as he could.  The packed bags waiting for him on his motel room’s bed were a rather indicator of that being his plan.  A reiteration of what he did years and years ago,  leaving without saying a word;  leaving before he ever knew.

However there was a rather loud part of him that didn’t allow Mike to do such thing,  and he knew exactly why.  It wasn’t like it used to be,  perhaps it never would,  but being allowed near Will for such extended period of time ?  Had Mike’s resolve cracking;  had him wishing for his time here to never end,  to not lose the other all over again,  despite it all being Mike’s own doing and his stupid cruise to keep the other safe without his knownledge.  Perhaps,  that was why,  as stupid,  nonsensical and silly it might have sounded,  he had looked for a place,  even found one.  His own selfishness holding onto the possibility of a new beginning,  one that scared him.

Feet stopped,  head lifting from the cracked sidewalk,  and a snort slipped past cold lips,  of course he ended up in front of the same building it all started again.  A shake of his head,  and mere minutes later he was sitting on the roof of the building.  The cheap bottle of wine he got at the bar earlier sitting almost untouched next to him,  finger hovering above the SEND button on his phone screen for a second longer,  the text already having hung in there for the hours.

Even through written words there was the hint of humor,  his way of covering up his inner turmoil.  He was gambling with fate,  with luck,  the outcome of his own decision of going or staying,  put in the hand of the outcome of that single message.  And send,  now he only had to wait and perhaps. . .  hope.

will definitely wear pink. it may not match his whole punk ‘aesthetic’ but he doesn’t believe in consistency. “but pink is a girl color”, nope! he doesn’t listen to that load of bull. colors are just colors, plus he’s always changing colors so what’s it matter to him. he himself turns pink sometimes.

begrudgingly pays for tickets but will not pay for snacks. sneaks them in fs.

doesn’t really cry but does sympathize with what the movie portrays.

And a Heaven in a Wild Flower’

He pauses his reading. The half demon’s gaze rises from the page and latches onto the intricate symbols you expertly form in the air only a few meters away.

You are speaking with Nicoletta, bantering back and forth like friends do. Vergil’s not up to date on the conversation, but that doesn’t minimize his interest in your words in the slightest.

Vergil’s pale blue eyes secretly trace the delicate outline of your fingers as they move. They’re so fragile compared to his own, but looks are often deceiving. The half demon is well aware of the power those hands hold, and every time he watches you ‘speak’ he finds himself mesmerized, eager to learn the words they form.

Studying you closely, Vergil recognizes some of the signs and mentally matches them to the meanings drawn on the pages of the ‘Sign Language’ book he has secretly stashed in his nightstand.

‘demon…sword…what?’

Those are the only three words he can decipher. He glances at your face, searching for more clues. Your brows are furrowed and eyes questioning as you regard Nicoletta. The craftswoman smiles a toothy grin.

“Don’t you go on giving me grief now, it’s a brilliant idea and you know it!”

You huff, hands resting on your hips as Nicoletta dives headfirst into her explanation. Vergil’s gaze returns to his book before either of you catch him eavesdropping.

‘Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand 

And Eternity in an hour’

Your phantom warmth still tingles in his left hand. Vergil frowns, subtly flexing the fingers resting on his thigh. He tries to focus on the next verse, but the words may as well be illegibly splattered on the page.

He can’t stop thinking about it.

‘Infinity in the palm of your hand’

Your hand…

He desperately wants to hold your hand again.

Vergil’s brows furrow as frustration builds and burns, piping hot on his tongue. He’s been trying to focus on just about anything other than you since this morning. Unfortunately, given the proximity you all suffered sheltering under the roof of Devil May Cry, this proved to be an impossible feat.

Despite his best efforts, every other second Vergil’s thoughts swim and tread through the waters of distraction as he replays that moment from this morning over and over again.

He had just returned from a mission when he ran into you and Kyrie a few blocks away from the Devil May Cry shop. Vergil acknowledged you both with a silent nod and was about to pass you by without so much as a single word, when you’d stopped him in his tracks.

“Where did you go?” Kyrie translated your signs. 

Mildly irritated at having to rely on his son’s fiance to understand your words, Vergil responded.

“It’s none of your concern.”

He hadn’t meant for his words to sound cold, but certain habits had proved difficult for Vergil to break. Like usual however, you were completely unperturbed by Vergil’s prickly demeanor. Instead of sneering or shying away, you smiled and reached into your pocket for the notepad and pen that you usually carried on your person. 

Vergil watched, silent and intrigued as you scribbled away for a few moments. Then, you ripped off the piece of paper, folded it, and closed the distance between the two of you.

The shock that had coursed through Vergil’s system when your right hand slipped into his nearly left him breathless. It was a touch that was so gentle and so warm, that it almost felt painful.

When was the last time he had been touched like this, so gently and without violence? Then again, when was the last time he’d even permitted such a thing?

A flash of a childhood memory long thought forgotten flashed through Vergil’s mind, and it was then that he realized with astounding clarity that it had been tragically, far, far too long.

You’d left him there in stunned silence, the heat left by your fingers like thorns in his hands. Piercing.

It took a moment for the half demon to collect himself. Once he managed to clear his mind, Vergil opened the private note you’d left in his palm. 

It read,

I’m glad you’re back.

“ ‘It won’t work’ ” my ass! You’ll see, I’ll cook something up that will make Red Queen look like a toothpick.” Nicoletta boasts, pulling Vergil from his memory. 

Impulsively, Vergil’s eyes trail along the folded piece of paper sitting between the pages of his book—his secret little memento–before glancing up at the two of you.

‘Bullshit.’

Vergil recognizes the sign immediately. It’s one you are quite fond of it seems.

Nicoletta rolls her eyes playfully at your response, the grin on her face a clear indicator that she is quite fond of your quips.

“Says you!” Nicoletta flicks some of the ash from her lit cigarette onto your boot. The silent sigh you exhale is visible to Vergil even from a distance. He watches as you shake your head before brushing the ash off your boot.

“Let’s see you call ‘bullshit’ after you see my next work of art. You’ll be eatin’ your words!”

Your hands rise into the air and Vergil feels another pang of perplexing longing wash over him. He’s itching to experience that softness on his skin again. 

What would it feel like to have your fingers entwined with his? Would he hate or love the sensation of leading you by the hand to a quiet place just for the two of you? How would it feel to have you lead him?

But before he can truly digest these new thoughts and feelings, the couch cushions abruptly sink beside him. Vergil turns his attention to his left and Dante’s shit eating grin is the unfortunate sight that greets him.

“Think a book will hide you?” Dante teases. “You couldn’t be more obvious, dear brother.”

Just started yet another reread of Inimitable Verse by deniigiq and I fully plan on rereading their into the multiverse series which occasionally crosses over also - this is a Spider-Man/team red focused series, think comics canon infused early mcu-spidey since only homecoming had come out for a non substantial amount of time they were working on the series and the daredevil stuff is explicitly tv show AND comics. Also the multiverse series is how I got into Murderdock and therefore how I got into Spider Gwen

Unpretty's Sorrowful And Immaculate Hearts series which is just a loosely interconnected series of DC fics. My personal favorites are Empty Graves, in which Martha Kent keeps killing time travelers trying to kill baby! Clark; any of their clois fics but especially Third Wheel; and Anti-Social, which is a social media fic mostly about Tim and Bruce that made me cry laughing. Catch Bruce trying to get Walmart's employees to unionize. Also shout out to unpretty's only fic with Jason in it, it looks awesome but is tragically incomplete

This particular Reverse Robin AU which put in the work to reverse every single younger generation and is chef's kiss I LOVE this version of Tim he's wild

Both of Shoalsea's fics are in constant rotation for me I talk about Into The Brighter Night all the time in the tags of reblogs and stuff it truly lives in my head rent free. Anyway Tim gets kidnapped by aliens and the batfam have to watch as yj98 saves him and it's angsty and funny and such a good take on what could have been if the new 52 hadn't happened. And Compassion Builds No House is about Tim and Pru from Red Robin. Ugh they're both so good

Speaking of Clois (I did you've just forgotten this by now) brilliant (like a confession) by kathkin (penny-anna on the hellsite) is so fucking good I'm. Okay. Anyway it'll be listed as inspiration if/when I finally post my two person love triangle fic for them

Make A Little Birdhouse In Your Soul is my favorite take on Jason, period, and has a lot of fantastic Damian stuff going on too. It's updating every few weeks still! Sometimes more often! Enough by homegrown_simp is the first multichapter fic I bookmarked and it's just so so good ever time I read it. It has probably the best ESC-era and post-ESC era Bojere from May/June times in my opinion

Now I'm Going to Dance by Monsters_Minima is 2 chapters, with the first one being utterly *heartbreaking*, and the second one will fix that right up with fluff/smut. I usually don't read falling out/break up fics, but for some reason the way this was written just gripped me so... yeah

Guys being dudes, dudes being gay by Anonymous is just pure filth BUT the way that both Bojan and Jere are written is just so magical and it's just so so so good and realistic and fun and yeah. Just a really good read, I felt out of breath (lol) after reading it bcs the writing just gripped me (again, lol)

I'm not even gonna rec anything in particular from mitochondriencocktail (except Put Me Together, Thread a Needle which EVERYONE has to read), every single one of their BoJere fics is written so unbelievably well. I honestly had a throwback to my own screenwriting classes from how well the fics always progressed etc.

ITS ALL ABOUT VIOLENCE it got its mv censored to start. its not even justified but hey i cant say that about many songs lmao its about the glorification of violence from mental illness (and some other things, but really its generally all about mental illness), and is done extremely well. its extremely clear that theres a lot of care put into this song, and like... determination? i barely ever see representation of things like this (violent/intrustive thoughts, glorification of it, etc) in music, so seeing it here (and in a way that shows that weevildoing truly gets it + isn't patronizing) is really nice. really this song is like... a community? something to show that you arent alone. and i love that so much, i love how much has been put into this song, every single lyric and instrumental choice shows an abundance of love and care and understanding. and this song has an entire developed character to go with it, and is alongside multiple other songs! its a part of the post-traumatic manifesto, and the character featuring is Splitter Girl (no other name, which is on purpose). the song is basically her mind, and the mv (uncensored) her internet life. showing what she's searching, listening to, shopping for, etc. once again it hits the nail right on the head for what mental illness is like. the visuals are very unafraid and purposeful in the clips and websites it shows, up to blade shopping, #guro and how to tie nooses being included. it pulls no stops in showing what it's truly like to be so low, what it really feels like, the highs and lows of it. it's like a love letter to me, to everyone who feels this way, and thats why i love it so much. it doesnt demonize us. it offers a hand (with a glittery pink gun) and an understanding i said its all about violence but man. its all about being *understood.* and violence too"

a/n: i’ve never written from Phoenix’s perspective before and it was a risk doing it but I wanted someone else to tell the first part of the story. i have to admit that i’m nervous about this one. i like to think Rebel’s anger is quieter than Mav and Rooster’s, but when she strikes, she strikes hard. (please see: every time Rebel has insulted someone). anyways, this got so far away from me and i am so sorry.

summary: One of the new TOPGUN pilots is caught making moves on Rooster. Moral of the story? Rebel is not to be fucked with.

It’s the mention of her best friend that first catches Phoenix’s attention. 

At the drop of Rooster’s name, she turns ever-so-slightly, catching sight of one of the female pilots from the new TOPGUN class talking to a few other pilots from the base. Ace is her callsign. 

Ace is one of her least favorite pilots from the new class. The Iron Daggers had been working with them, because as the best, the Navy saw the things the students could learn from them. But Ace was so sure of herself, she was unwilling to take criticism. Her flying put others in danger and she was resistant to making friends. Her own wingman, Storm, bemoaned the fact that he had gotten stuck with her, and looked mildly unhappy to be trapped at the bar with her. Atlantis, the ever-annoying prick, was with her too, egging her on in the shit she was talking. When it had been revealed by another TOPGUN pilot that the two were related, no one had been surprised. She nudged Bob, tilting her head back to the group behind them and he paused in his conversation with Hangman, listening in too. 

“I just don’t understand what he sees in her. I mean I’ll give her credit, she’s fucking hot, but dude...” Atlantis snorts. 

“Ace, I don’t know what to tell you. Those two are up each other’s ass. You stand less of a chance with Rooster than I did with Rebel.” His sister lets out an indignant scoff. 

“Excuse you! I could definitely bag Rooster by the time the night is over.” Phoenix raises an eyebrow as Hangman slowly leans against the table, trying to not make it obvious that three of them are eavesdropping on this conversation. 

“Are you willing to bet money on that sis?” Atlantis taunts. 

“You know what, yeah I am. 50 bucks I bang Rooster by the end of the night and their relationship is over. She doesn’t stand a chance.”

“And I’ll bet another $100 Rebel punches your lights out Ace.” Storm responds. “You’re playing with fire here.” 

“Oh please, we all know that they aren’t happy together. I’m sure Rooster’s just waiting for the first pretty girl to make a move. None of them are brave enough to go against her, but I feel no fear.” 

“Damn straight.” Atlantis agrees, raising his beer in his sister’s direction. 

“She’s a fucking miserable bitch. Their relationship has been over for a long time and neither of them are willing to admit it. I wish she’d go away honestly.”

“And you’re sure you’re gonna be successful?” Atlantis asks, a smirking gracing his face. 

“Oh, hell yeah. All I need to do is give him a little wink, let him cop a feel, and the boy is mine.” 

Storm sucks in a long breath through his teeth. “You’d better be careful with that Ace. You’re flying with Coyote tomorrow morning. You ruin his best friend’s relationship, you're asking for trouble.” 

Damn right, Storm. 

The bell jingles, singling new arrivals and the group behind them pauses, turning. A quick glance reveals Rebel and Coyote with Rooster, Fanboy, and Payback right behind them. They split off, Coyote and Rebel making their way over with the other three stopping at the bar. Another quick glance reveals that Atlantis is smirking at his sister, gesturing to Rooster with a now’s your chance look. She huffs and grabs her beer, making her way towards the three unsuspecting pilots. Phoenix quickly catches Rebel’s eye as her and her best friend arrive at the group. 

“What?” She asks as Coyote settles in next to his boyfriend. She nods her head to the pilots behind them and her gaze drifts over their heads to the others. She  turns back, confusion filtering in her look. “Okay, so Storm and Atlantis are here. And?” Phoenix shifts forward, resting her arms on her knees. 

“They were talking about you.”

She shrugs. “Okay? They don’t bother me.”

“They were talking about you and Rooster. Ace bet her brother 50 bucks she could bang him by the end of the night. They were talking massive shit about your relationship.” Something in Rebel’s eyes harden, glancing back over to her boyfriend, who’s now looking mildly uncomfortable at the pilot unabashedly drapping herself on top of him. Still, she shrugs again. 

“So? What do I care? Some hotshot pilot isn’t gonna fuck up my relationship. I’ve known him since I was in diapers, he’s been my best friend for years, and I’m the one he’s coming home to every night. She’s not gonna do shit.” Her voice rises as she talks. The group collectively shoots her a look and she sighs, shoulders drooping. “Fine, so I care a little.” 

“My favorite part was when Storm bet her a 100 bucks you punched her lights out, which I would very much like to see you do, so go get your man.” Hangman says, which earns him an elbow to the rib from Coyote. 

“Rooster’s a big boy, he can take care of himself.” 

“I vote you go defend your honor.” Hangman responds, which results in another elbow to the ribs from his boyfriend and a glare from Rebel.

“They’re coming over here.” Bob mutters, twisting back around from where he’d been watching Ace flirt with Rooster. Rooster looks unhappy about the pilot who’s following him, Fanboy and Payback still watching from the bar, choosing to stay out of it, it seemed. Atlantis materializes next to his sister as Rooster and Ace arrive. 

This should be interesting. 

Rooster hands his girlfriend a beer, arm casually slipping around her shoulders. Rebel’s jaw clenches as Ace makes eye contact with her, a smirk on her face as if she’s taunting her. Rooster clears his throat, glancing at the younger pilots who’ve joined them. 

“You all know Ace.” He introduces, gesturing to the girl with the hand that’s holding his beer, arm never leaving his girlfriend. She offers a sickly sweet smile, waving. The group doesn’t return the gesture. 

“Nice to see you all again.” Atlantis says and the group offers him a glance. Rebel moves, shifting away from her boyfriend to sit opposite Hangman, directly across from Ace. Phoenix exchanges a look with Bob, not enjoying the quiet anger that’s brewing in her Rebel’s eyes. 

“Rooster, I have a question.” Ace asks and Rebel’s eyes narrow. Rooster, bless the oblivious boys heart, is unaware of what’s really going on and is very clearly baffled by the situation unfolding. 

“Sure.” 

“What’s your type?” Rooster’s eyes go wide.

“Um, my type is my girlfriend.” 

Good boy Bradshaw.

Some of the tension bleeds out of Rebel’s shoulders. Atlantis is still eyeing her like he did the first night, looking at her in all the ways Phoenix wants to punch him for. 

“Well, sure baby, but I could be your type too.” Ace says, a sickening sweetness dripping from her words. Fake, it’s all fake. 

“No thanks. I’m very happy with my girlfriend.” 

“Are you? I know it must be tiring, being with someone like her.” 

“Excuse me?” Rooster says at the same time Coyote offers a “What the fuck are you talking about?” The two glance at each other, neither surprised at the speed in which they rush to defend her. Ace rolls her eyes, shifting. 

“I mean, don’t you get tired of it? She never shuts up, she’s constantly making her problems everyone else’s, and she drags down everyone around her. She wouldn't even have half of what she does if it wasn’t for Maverick. The two of you deserve better and you know it.” Rooster huffs, straightening his shoulders as Coyote narrows his eyes. Phoenix takes a quick glance to Rebel, who’s leaning in closely to Hangman, listening closely to the words he’s whispering in her ear. Ace catches the movement too. Unfortunately. “See? I bet she’s cheating on you with him.” The pair pull apart as Hangman raises an eyebrow at her. 

“I would never cheat on my boyfriend.” Hangman responds matter-of-factly, taking a sip of beer.  Ace takes pause, cocking her head. 

Atlantis snorts. “Yeah, that’s a special kind of betrayal, screwing your best friend’s boyfriend.” The quiet anger is still brewing in Rebel’s eyes as she watches Ace carefully. 

“What?” Ace kisses, looking to her brother. He turns slightly. 

“What, did you not know that?” She shakes her head. 

“Yeah, Hangman and Coyote are gay for each other.” Phoenix catches Hangman’s hand shooting out, grabbing the back of Rebel’s jacket as she moves to stand up from her seat. Ace looks around the group, eyes landing back on Coyote. 

“You know what, never mind. I’m not sure I want to be around people who support people like you.” If Phoenix peeks over Bob’s shoulder, she can see Hangman’s grip on her jacket tighten as a flash of hurt crosses Coyote’s face. 

“Then get lost. We don’t want people like you over here anyways.” Rooster snaps. 

Ace scoffs. “People like me?” 

“Ignorant bitches who will treat everyone like dirt to get to the top. You don’t care about Rooster, you just care about ruining Rebel.” Phoenix responds and Ace turns to face her. “Fuck off.” Ace huffs, but does, turning on her heel as her brother trails after her. Hangman slowly lets his grip on Rebel go when he’s sure she’s not gonna take after the other pilot. 

“Coyote, I’m sorry, she wouldn’t leave me alone.” Rooster mutters after a few minutes of silence. Coyote shrugs. 

“Not your fault Bradshaw. Good on you for putting her in her place Nix.” He says, offering her his fist. She fistbumps him as Payback and Fanboy arrive at the edge of the group. The tension could be cut with a knife and Fanboy’s face reflects as much. 

“The hell happened?” 

Hangman opens his mouth to answer when Bob lets out a “Are you okay?” The group turns, realizing he’s talking to Rebel. The girl’s jaw is tight, her eyes stormy with the same quiet anger, not offering any words as she looks at the ground. 

“Rebel, don’t worry about it. I’ve been told worse.” Coyote offers. 

“Yeah, and she’s not gonna shake what we have.” Rooster follows up, but she doesn’t look up. 

“’M fine. Who wants to play pool?” 

Payback groans. “What did Ace do?” Fanboy straightens up. 

“Who’s honor are we defending and how bad was it?” Rebel raises her head, running a hand through her hair. 

“It’s not a big deal.” 

“Are you sure?” Hangman asks quietly, a rare moment of care shown between the two. 

“Her day will come.”

You sigh, knocking on your Dad’s office door. You shift on your feet, still unsure about what you were about to do. 

They needed to go.

“Come in.” He calls and you take a deep breath, pushing the door open. As far Navy offices go, it’s small and got a welcoming feel, one only your Dad could exude. Warlock and Cyclone are there, along with Thunder, one of the other TOPGUN instructors. He looks up, smiling. “Hey kiddo.” 

“Hey, sorry, I don’t mean to interrupt.” He shakes his head. 

“No, not at all. What’s up?” You sigh, shutting the door behind you quietly. 

“Um, I have a concern about one of your pilots. Two, actually.” He swallows as his face hardens. He nods his head to the chair in front of his desk and Cyclone quickly stands up, moving so you can take it. You sit, pulling your hands from your jacket as you swallow. “I want to preface this by saying that I would never intentionally try to get a pilot dismissed from the TOPGUN program because of a personal dislike for them.” Thunder exchanges a look with your Dad. 

“What’s gone down?” He asks, folding his hands on his desk. You run a hand through your hair, taking a shaky breath. 

“Atlantis and Ace. I have genuine concerns about them. I’m worried that they both might be a danger to other pilots.” Thunder sighs, settling on the edge of the desk. 

“You wouldn’t be the first person to express concerns about Atlantis. What did he do?” He asks quietly. 

“He’s not very good at respecting other female pilots spaces. I’ve heard rumblings from a few in the new class that he’s not willing to leave them alone, always trying to have a hand on them, making crude comments about their bodies. He’s exhibited this same behavior off-base to other female pilots. He doesn’t understand the word ‘no’ and gets visibly and verbally upset when he’s rejected. I myself have been subject to this.” Cyclone startles. 

“Why didn’t you say anything?” You shrug. 

“It happened weeks ago, at the start of training. We were at the Hard Deck and he got kicked out for his behavior and I thought that was the end of it. But it hasn’t been and if this is how he’s blatantly treating his mentor figures along with fellow pilots, I don’t want to think about how he treats others back on his home base.” 

“And Ace?” Thunder asks, unphased by the information regarding Atlantis’ behavior.  

“What I’m about to say is on a need-to-know basis and can not leave this office unless absolutely necessary. I also don’t want this to be misconstrued as me going after her personally.” You say, looking Thunder in the eyes. He was a good man, but what you were about to reveal could not get out to the rest of the Navy. And it was personal, but no one needed to know why. Thunder nods, signaling for you to continue. 

“The other night, a few of us were at the Hard Deck hanging out. Ace made a comment to Coyote about not wanting associate with people like him.”

“Meaning?” Your Dad asks and you turning your attention to him. 

“Meaning as people who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community.” Thunder stands up as your Dad’s eyes widen. “I firmly and genuinely believe this was why she intentionally pulled that stunt during training yesterday.”

The day prior, Coyote and Ace had been assigned to fly with each other as part of the day’s training. She had pulled a stunt that would’ve gotten Coyote hurt had he not been as good of a pilot as he was, in addition to the fact that there was no real enemy plane chasing them, only Maverick. Your Dad had given her hell when she’d landed, but she seemed to care very little about Coyote’s well-being. 

Your Dad sighs, shifting to lean back in his seat. “This isn’t the first time we’ve had these complaints about Atlantis. But this kind of behavior from Ace? Unbelievable.” 

“I believe it. Respectfully, you guys don’t see how she treats the other pilots when you’re not around. She’s very careful to make sure this all happens off-base. And while Coyote is fine and has brushed the comment off, I worry about how she would treat an openly-gay pilot on a real mission. And I don’t want to let someone else get hurt because I was quiet about what I knew. And we’re all aware that the Navy has an expectation that no pilot would be discriminated against or treated unfairly because of their sexual orientation.” You’re looking at your Dad, and only your Dad now, begging, pleading, with him to understand where you’re coming from. 

And he should, because he lived through Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. And he does, because you knew what he had with Uncle Ice. 

Thunder looked to Maverick. “I think we both know what to do about Atlantis. But I’ll support whatever call you make about Ace. The Daggers are your pilots and you know them best.” Your Dad remained quiet, studying you. 

“Does Coyote know you’re doing this?” Warlock asks from the chair next to you. You shake your head. 

“He would be so mad if he did.” You respond quietly. 

“Disregarding the fact that I’m displeased that this happened to one of my own pilots, you and I both know this can’t be tolerated Maverick.” Cyclone says, looking at your Dad. Your Dad finally sighs leaning forwards in his chair. 

“Thunder, Cyclone, and I will discuss this with a few of the higher-ups. Thank you for bringing your concerns forward Lieutenant.” You swallow at the use of your rank, at the quiet emotion in his voice. You were in so much trouble. “Unless you have any other concerns you’d like to bring forward at this time, you may go.” You shake your head, standing up from the chair. Warlock and Cyclone bid you a quiet goodbye as you leave the office. 

If Dad didn’t get to you first, Coyote was definitely going to kill you.

“Hey, are we good?” 

You look up to see Coyote settling next to you in the rec room. Training with the TOPGUN class had been delayed for the day, and Atlantis and Ace were very noticeably missing. Their absence was the topic of the day as you all continued to wait. You had stayed quiet, not wanting to reveal what you had done. 

You and Coyote hadn’t talked since that night at the Hard Deck. You and Rooster had talked some, but you hadn’t revealed your conversation with your CO’s to him either. He’d be pissed if he knew that this is what you had done. He could claim that Ace flirting with him was not a big deal, assure you that the two of you were secure in your relationship, but it wasn’t the flirting with him that had bothered you at your core. The things she had said, not only to Coyote, but to you, about you? Unforgivable. And you knew she wasn’t sorry for them, not in the slightest. 

“Rebel?” He prods, nudging your shoulder with his own. You startle, realizing you had zoned out. 

“Sorry, I spaced. What did you say?” 

“Are we good? We haven’t talked much the last few days.”

“We’re fine Coyote.” You respond, offering him a tight smile that you know probably comes out more like a grimace. He looks at you as if he doesn’t quite believe you. Rooster quietly joins you, settling on your other side as you lean up against the windowsill. 

“Did you do something I should know about?” He whispers quietly. 

“Yeah, where the hell are those two?” Coyote says, crossing his arms. 

You fixate your gaze to the board on the opposite side of the room. “Not a clue. And no.” 

“Did you do something you don’t want me to know about?”

“No.” It’s a lie, but you’re not going to reveal it. There had been good intention in what you’d done, genuinely worried about the safety of other pilots, but it’d been rooted in selfishness and you couldn’t quite swallow the guilt about that fact. Hangman walks over to you, placing himself on the edge of the couch that’s nearest to the window. 

“Are you okay?” He asks quietly, shifting to rest his arms on his knees. You pull at your NAVY sweatshirt and shrug. 

“What did you do?” Coyote asks as Maverick and Thunder appear in the doorway. 

“Don’t know what you’re talking about.” You whisper as the conversation in the room stalls, all looking to their CO’s. Your Dad clears his throat, glancing at Thunder. 

“Sorry for the delay pilots. It’s been decided the Daggers are not going up with you as we need to sort out new arrangements. Ace and Atlantis have been let go from the TOPGUN program, dismissed for their behavior.” A murmur ripples throughout the TOPGUN class as every pilot from your squadron turns to face you. You feel yourself shrinking, trying to make yourself small at their gazes. You can feel both Coyote and Rooster straighten next to you, as Hangman gives you a look that tells you he sees right through you. 

“What did you do?” Rooster whispers sharply. 

Maverick clears his throat, silencing the pilots. “I want to remind you that sexual harassment or discrimination of any kind is not tolerated. We here at Miramar take these reports very seriously and do not want any other pilots to feel as if their behavior has been ignored.” 

Coyote turns to look at you, but you refuse to meet his eye, only looking to your Dad, who you know is not thrilled with you. He falls back, turning to Thunder. Thunder steps forward, looking to the TOPGUN class. “You are all dismissed. Please head to the locker rooms and get ready for training for the day. Iron Daggers, will you stay for just one moment?” The TOPGUN class gets up to leave as your squadron pulls closer to the two CO’s. You swallow, willing them to not out you for what you had done. The door to the rec room shuts as your Dad sits one of the chairs, looking at his team. 

“I just wanted to say that I’m sorry to you all if any of you were affected by Atlantis or Ace’s behavior. What both of them did never should have happened. Coyote, I’m especially sorry to you, because I know Ace’s views were reflected that day she flew with you.” Coyote shakes his head. 

“No worries, sir. Walked away without a scratch.” Your Dad smile ruefully. 

“And we’re all very glad for it.” He stands up, moving back to where Thunder stands. “You’re all dismissed.” The team moves to exit the room. 

“Oh, and Rebel?” Thunder calls. You turn, as does the rest of the team. 

“Thank you for coming forward about your concerns, I know that must not have been easy for you.” You swallow, nodding. You slip past the rest of the team and out into the hallway, everyone following behind you. Coyote catches up first, walking just behind you. 

“Why did you do that? I told you it was fine and to let it go.” You turn abruptly, bumping into Coyote’s chest. 

“Selfishly, I didn’t do it all for you.” You snap, eyes narrowing. 

Hangman lets out a low whistle. “Damn, remind me to never fuck with you.” Rooster shoulders him out of the way as Coyote stumbles back from you. 

“The hell was that?” Your boyfriend asks, the anger flickering in his eyes. 

“No one is going to talk about me that way. My old squadron did enough of it.” Rooster deflates as he looks at you, glancing at Coyote. You sigh, slipping your hands into your back pockets as you look at your team and then back to your boyfriend and best friend. 

“Look, I love the both of you. And I’d go to bat for you, always. But I didn’t do it just for you. What I did was out of genuine concern but it was also for me. I’m done being harassed by other pilots and I’m not sorry for standing up for myself for once.” You swallow, shrugging. “And if that upsets you, that’s on you, not me. I won’t apologize for what I did.” Rooster and Coyote exchange a look as Phoenix steps froward, slipping an arm around your shoulder. 

“I’m so proud of you.” She laughs and you give her half a smile, rolling your eyes. “You know what, I’m buying you a beer.” 

Hangman chuckles. “I’ll double that. Good on you.” You look back to Coyote and Rooster, who both seem to be struggling with what to say. 

“I feel bad about it but I’m not sorry.” You say, feeling the guilt slip from your shoulders. 

“For what it’s worth, if I was you, I would’ve done the same exact thing.” Bob says quietly and you look over to him. “You shouldn’t have to tolerate that from any one.” 

“My Dad doesn’t think so. Thinks I should’ve kept my mouth shut.” 

“Your Dad’s just mad he had to do the paperwork for dismissing someone.” Phoenix jokes, shaking you with the arm thats still slung around your shoulder. 

“Speak of the devil.” Fanboy mutters as Halo and Fritz shift, allowing your Dad room into the group. Phoenix lets her arm fall from your shoulder as she straightens up. 

“You are to never do that again, do you understand me?” He says quietly, only looking at you, and Rooster glances at him. Very rarely did you and your Dad fight but it was never good, what with two of you being the most stubborn of individuals who'd never budge. 

“Mav-” Rooster gets bypassed as your Dad keeps talking. 

“You are so lucky Atlantis was already halfway out the door and that Ace’s behavior was a real concern for the higher-ups because if just one of them suspected you were personally going after those two, you would have been dishonorably discharged within the day. What the hell is wrong with you?”

“Have you actually asked her why she did it?” Rooster asks and your Dad pauses, looking to him. He shakes his head slowly. “You should hear her out Mav, it’s not what you think.” Your Dad swallows, shifting to straighten his shoulders. 

“Out with it then.” He gestures to you. 

“I don’t get a choice, do I?” 

“Not a chance in hell. If you did this for either of these two, you and I are going to have serious issues.” 

“I didn’t do it for them.” You sigh, glancing at your best friend. “Look, what she said wasn’t cool. But I’m fucking tired of pilots talking about and treating me however they want to.” Your Dad shakes his head, the anger now mixing with confusion. 

“What?” 

“Ace said some pretty terrible things about Rebel. About her relationship. Fully tried to get Rooster to cheat on her.” Hangman responds quietly, glancing around the hallways as if the girl would appear at the mention of her name. 

“Like?” Your Dad prompts. 

“No, we’re done talking about this.” You interrupt, casting a look to Hangman. Hangman had shared with you what Ace had actually said that night, in a hushed tone that only you could hear. It didn’t need to go any farther then three who were present for it and you. You look to Phoenix. “How about that beer?”

“No, we’re not done talking about this.” Your Dad responds, the anger returning.

“Listen, nobody gave a shit when Coyote put his wings on the line for me. What does it matter?” 

“It matters because I don’t want you throwing away your career because a girl was flirting with your boyfriend. At least Coyote had a good reason.”

You scoff. “Oh, give me some credit here, please.” Your Dad sighs, studying you for a moment. “It’s not just about the flirting or the going after my relationship or hurting my best friend. She went after me. And maybe that’s a petty reason, but I don't care.”

“It’s not.” You look to your best friend, who sighs. “It’s not a petty reason.” 

“I agree.” Rooster says, shifting. “Look, you- you’ve been through hell while in the Navy and like Bob said, I wouldn’t have tolerated it either. Not ever, not after what the Green Vipers put you through.” You swallow. 

“So... we’re all good?” You asking, looking between the three men. They all nod and you let out a deep breath, feeling even more guilt slip from your shoulders. “Alright, so that beer?” You say, turning to Phoenix. She laughs and nods. The group turns, heading towards the parking lot as Rooster slips his hand into your own. When you reach the parking lot, he begins tugging you towards his Bronco. 

“We’ll meet you over there.” He calls as the pair of you break off. 

“Gonna lecture me in private?” You say quietly once the car’s been started and is pulling away from base.

“No, but I want to know why you didn’t tell me.” 

“About which part?”

“That you were getting them fired.”

“Okay, my intention was not to get them fired.”

“You know what I meant.” He says, giving you a look. 

“Look, I knew you’d be mad.”

“I’m not mad, I’m just- Why did you let me think it was because you were jealous?”

“Well, I mean I was. No one likes seeing a younger, pretty, intelligent girl throwing herself at their boyfriend.”

He sigh, looking at you as he takes your hand. He squeezes it and then brings it up to his lips to kiss it gently. “You’re the only pretty, intelligent girl I want.” You swallow, biting your lip. The comment Ace had made about the two of you only staying together because of how long you’d been together was running on repeat in your head. You could hear the words, even though you hadn’t actually heard them, only repeated by Hangman. “What? What’re you thinking about?”

“But how do you know that?” 

“What do you mean?”

“Like... we’ve known each other for years. How do we know that what we felt as teens is still... are we forcing something that isn’t there?” The road is quiet, but he pulls off to the shoulder anyways. He sighs, leaning back in his seat as he grips the steering wheel. 

“What are you saying?” His voice is quiet, void of emotion, but you can see the hurt in his eyes as he looks at you. You shift, turning to face him. 

“I just... if you’re staying with me because of how long we’ve been together or- or if you feel trapped-”

“Do you think I feel trapped?” 

“No. I don’t know!” You defend as he looks away from you, grip adjusting on the steering wheel. 

“So what, you want to break up?” 

“No.” You say, shifting away from him. 

“Why do you love me?” He asks and you turn again, gaping at him. 

“Uh, because I love you?” You laugh nervously, uneasy about where he’s going with this. “Because you make me laugh into the night and you push me to be a better person. Because you’re the first person I want to tell things to and the first person I want to see in the morning. But this isn’t about me, this is about you and you staying because of what we’ve been through together. If you’re only with me because of the fact that we grew up together or because we spent so long apart or, whatever, I just- it would break my heart but I’d rather us not be together than for you to stay because- hmph.” You’re cut off by Rooster grabbing your shirt and pulling your lips to his.

He pulls away after a moment, but he remains close to you, eyes searching your face. “Sorry, I needed you to shut up for a minute.” He swallows as his hands move from you shirt to your face, cradling it as he looks at you honestly. It takes everything in you to not look away from his piercing look that’s making you feel more vulnerable than you’ve ever felt. 

“Ace said something about us only staying together because of how long we’ve been together. And I just- I don’t want you to feel like you have to stay because-”

“Because what? Because you were there when Mom died? Because you were at my high school graduation? Honey, I love you because you were there. I’ve been with other girls but no one has ever truly understood me in the way you do, because no one gets it like you do. You were there on every anniversary after Dad died. You were there when Mom got sick and you were there when she passed. You were there when I graduated from high school and you were there, even when you weren’t. I love you because at 16, the only thing I wanted to do when I got my license was go on road trips and listen to music with you. I love you because you knew Mom and she adored you, and you felt her death just as much as I did. I love you because you forgave me, even when you didn’t have to. I love because you’re my partner and the only person I have felt this myself with. I love you because you scream Taylor Swift songs in the car and cry over videos of cute dogs and let me cook for you, even though I know you’ve learned how. I love you because of how long we’ve known each other. There’s no one else in this world I would want to be with.” You take a shaky breath, moving away from his grasp to wipe away your tears. He grabs your chin, turning your head back to him so he can wipe them away with his thumb, still looking at you with that raw honesty, the pure love that you’re not so sure you deserve. You swallow, unsure of what to say. 

“I-” 

“For the record, I don’t want another pretty pilot. I want you. It’s only ever been you.” You nod, still feeling breathless. 

“I know.” You whisper, because you do know. There’s a beat of silence as he takes one of your hands. “Do you think they’d be mad if we didn’t show?” He raises his eyebrow. “I kind just want to go home.” You whisper. He chuckles softly, leaning over to give you one more kiss. 

“Yeah, let’s go back to my place.” 

Once back at the Bradshaw household, he ordered pizza as you warded off texts in the group chat, rain-checking the beers Phoenix and Hangman owed you. They were giving the two of you shit, stating that you guys could bone later (thanks Hangman) which earned a middle finger emoji from your end. Later, once you were fed and wrapped up underneath a blanket with your boyfriend, him pressing soft kisses to your shoulder and rubbing circles into the skin did you bring up what happened in the car. 

“I’m sorry.” You whisper as the movie flickers across the screen, casting the only light in the room. The words are so quiet, you’re unsure if he heard them. 

“Don’t be. I shouldn’t have gotten mad.”

“No, not that, I meant it when I said I wasn’t sorry. The other thing. What I said in the car.” 

“Oh.” Oh? You swallow nervously, rolling to face him, back turned away from the TV. “Hi.” He whispers, reaching up to poke your nose. You scrunch it and stick your tongue at him, causing him to laugh. “Don’t be sorry. I love you. This is the one thing you don’t have to worry about, because I’m not going anywhere.” 

“Still, I shouldn’t have-”

“Honey, your Mom left. Your old team spent two years telling you in detail all the reasons why no one would ever like you. Ace wasn’t kind with her words and I’d be upset too. It’s okay.” 

“Still-”

“I’ll kiss you to make you shut up again.” He threatens but there’s no malice in his words, only laughter. 

“Wouldn’t hate that.” You whispered and he smirked. 

“Yeah, I know.”

Pit Babe Finale Thoughts

I can’t believe PitBabe is over. I’ve been watching week by week since November and it has been such a wild ride. I don’t remember enjoying a show and the fandom space of the show so much since probably Kinnporshe.

And I did not have any expectations for this show. At most I was interested because Pavel was in it. But even then I hadn’t watched anything he’d been in in a while. Also I had heard after the first episode came out that it was an omega verse style show where Pavel’s character plays the “bottom”. That definitely intrigued me.

However I still had a lot of doubts. I just assumed Babe would be the typical toxic alpha character. And I keep saying this but I’m so glad I was proven wrong. This show has kept me on the edge every single episode and the final episode broke me and put me back together again.

Before I delve into what I loved I will say I really wish there had been just one more episode. Some parts of the final felt a bit rushed. I would have especially liked to see more of the aftermath of Tony’s fall, more specifically how they handled it with the public. Also I wanted to see some PeteKenta:(( Also I would have liked to see more CharlieBabe communication scenes, because they didn’t really talk that much in the last episode.

But I’m not mad at how the finale was structured and how it played out. Actually I’m quite the opposite with PitBabes finale. It wasn’t perfect but I loved it so much.

First off Kenta stabbing Tony was so powerful but also heartbreaking at the same time.

Of course he had to be the one to finish off Tony. It’s the way also that Tony can’t believe it. He looks completely shocked. It’s the way that Kenta’s voice is soft he’s completely detached. He’s done enough.

And Way’s death.

Not just his death but the whole scene where Babe is holding him as he is dying.

The pain and desperation in Babe’s face made me want to cry. (Kudos to Pavel again) Even though Way had betrayed Babe’s trust and attempted to force himself onto Babe, in Babe’s mind at the moment he doesn’t think of all that. After all they have been friends so so many years. It’s hard to forget all of that

I loved this scene. Their dialogue especially broke me. Even till the end, when Way confesses his love, Babe tells him that we’re best friends. I love you but not the love you want.

And I really think Way redeemed himself, and this is all coming from someone who used to despise him. He gives his life up for Babe. He did something horrible okay yes but in the last few episodes he keeps his distance. He truly loves Babe, and because of the way he was raised he most likely didn’t even realize what he was doing was wrong, but after he realized how much he had hurt Babe he changed and it was clear to see.

See that’s the thing I love about the characters in Pit Babe I realized is that they have faults, no one character is perfect. Because of the trauma they suffered being a part of Tony’s orphanage they don’t know how to live a normal life. They all have their fatal flaws.

It’s why Babe is so desperate for love. And why Charlie is so self sacrificing. It’s the reason why Kenta couldn’t break free and the reason why Pete felt like he could fix those around him.

One last scene that I loved that I want to talk about is Babe and his Dad’s reunion.

I’m so glad they included this. Babe deserved the closure and he also deserved to be angry and upset. He went through so much and to know that your dad is still alive and he hadn’t even contacted you years after?? This scene in my head is a comparison for Babe and Charlie’s reunion but I feel like because of this scene I understand why Babe forgave Charlie so much easier. First of all Babe suspected Charlie was alive so it wasn’t a complete shock to him. And also Charlie’s “death” was only for a week or two maybe more. Charlie death was a sacrifice for Babe. Charlie literally spends every second of his life fighting for Babe.

But on the other hand, Babe’s dad sacrificed Babe. There’s a clear difference between the two. Yes he was doing it to protect him but he could have tried to get him back?? He could have tried to contact Babe?? He was a coward. And he acknowledges that and Babe eventually does forgive him because after all it’s his dad. But I just thought the dichotomy of the two was interesting.

Now moving on to my favorite thing, Babe and Charlie. I haven’t fervently loved a main couple in so long but these two just do it for me. They are the perfect match. Their confession did it for me.

Because of course Charlie had only loved Babe and Babe hasn’t loved anyone like Charlie before. They make me want to scream. Also in the final episode I really appreciated how supportive Charlie was. He was there and he understands Babe he doesn’t push. He just wants Babe to be happy. God I love them so much.

My brain is rotting and I feel like I have so much more to say but this post is already too long so that’s all my thoughts for now. I will miss this silly vroom vroom show so much :(((

Once again, I risk talking for hours, especially since this happened and really happens almost every evening after dinner in the company of @justanotherniky during our "philosophical salon".

Also because *start of promo moment* out of our conversations about Hifudo came the writing of a fic that I have the honor of reading immediately following each update (it started almost 2 years ago, but sooner or later it'll be born too), so stay tuned!! *end of promo moment*

So I can't absolutely assure you that I'll be brief.

But let's get started.

I think the Hifudo is one of, if not THE, most canon-not-canon ship I've ever seen, not only in Hypmic, but in my whole life. Because let's start by saying that those two are blatantly acting like a married couple. "Housemates" is just a less outrageous term.

The most beautiful thing about Hifudo is how the trust-based relationship between them is something that's absolutely established and unbreakable, something that stems from their childhood and continues over time, becoming more and more solid as the years go by.

If you think about it for a moment, how powerful must the sentiment that exists between the two of them be to have Doppo never thought, at the ripe old age of 29, of having a relationship with anyone, preferring to stay and share an apartment with Hifumi? Because Hifumi needs him. Because if Doppo left Hifumi behind, Hifumi would slowly break down.

They need each other, because one reaches out where the other cannot: Doppo is strong for Hifumi when Hifumi fails to be strong, while Hifumi is there to support Doppo in the simple acts of everyday life, cheering him on and encouraging him, because he's worth so much more than others would have him believe.

Doppo has always stood up to protect Hifumi, starting with the disaster with Honobono. At that juncture, we could see how strong he's been for Hifumi, more than he's ever been for himself. How pissed off he was for him, more than he's ever been for himself. Doppo would kill Honobono, if only he could. And he would do it solely for Hifumi's sake.

Hifumi, for his part, only breaks down all his barriers when he's with Doppo. With Doppo he doesn't need to be strong. He can cry, he can let go, he can take off that facade of perfection that he's forced to constantly display at work and and in public. He can literally take off his clothes, because he knows that Doppo will never judge him, because he knows that Doppo doesn't need all that to love him and to stay by his side.

And as much as theirs canonically is not (but who knows, fics exist for that too, right?) a carnal relationship, Doppo would never lay a finger on Hifumi unless he himself gave him permission to do so. And this is beautiful and indicative of unparalleled respect.

Doppo and Hifumi do not need words to understand each other. Their relationship transcends explanations but is made up of gestures and glances.

And this is absolutely fantastic.

Little honorable mention to the fact that WHY THE HELL ARE THESE TWO ALWAYS THE ONLY FOOLS (affectionate) who sing together in group songs??? Always and ONLY the two of them. An example? Death Respect. They're the only two idiots who duet the verses. Every. single. time.

So, last thing and then I'll shut up, I promise: the two colors that canonically make me think of them are dark yellow (#f2b800) and watermelon red (#ff5050)… and when they come together to create a graduated shade (like when I edit the lyrics of the songs), the color of the sky at sunset comes out, which I think to be something that perfectly describes them (see the pics above) :)

Hi all thanks for letting me infodump about my new kids <3 Anyway here’s their general info and personalities. They don’t have names yet so suggestions are welcome. Also elemental power suggestions are welcome (remember, this is within the ATS verse so it’ll have to be 1 of the 15 elements). Some of them are already set but not all of them so ;)

Protag boy: THE boy of all time. He’s lovable. He’s stupid. He’s absurdly powerful. He’s really chill UNLESS you mess with his friends then he goes apeshit. He’s got a boyish charm that every single member of the group is attracted to. He’s the official leader of the group and they would do ANYTHING for him. His childhood friend passed away due to an incurable illness so whenever someone gets sick he mother hens to the EXTREME. He rarely ever cries so when he does the entire group flips their shit trying to comfort him or trying to beat the hell out of whatever made him cry. And most importantly. He is BABY

(Yes I got inspired bc I’ve been watching too much shounen lately. I NEEDED to make the boy ever)

Mute girl: Originally she was a VERY famous singer but she “vanished” five years ago. She’s kept this a secret from the group. Due to trauma she has chosen to go mute and has not sung in a long, long time. She communicates solely through sign language and eventually the rest of the group picks it up. Is generally closed off, but opens up to the group as time passes. When she does finally get the courage to use her voice and sing again, everyone absolutely loses their shit at how beautiful her voice is and they all cry and it’s very emotional.

Rabid feral girl: Little feral child that is just a gremlin and was taken in by the group bc she had no family. She thinks of protag boy as her big brother and absolutely adores him. She’s also a BEAST in battle, one of the strongest members of the group. She has no memories of who she was before she met the group, and has a mysterious past that will soon catch up with her. She’s probably the most blunt out of everyone and can sometimes say rude things without meaning to. You want to get roasted by a 10 year old? Yeah she’ll roast you alright

Edgy boy: He’s stoic and strong willed and stupidly powerful. Has more of a physical fighting style rather than using magic. Was the first member of the group to fall in behind protag boy. Would do ANYTHING for protag boy, even betray the other members. Is surprisingly a really good dancer, but will only dance in public if it’s with mute girl (who’s also had dance training). Everyone is jealous of this. Is one of the few people to have known sign language from the get go, so he translates for mute girl a lot at the beginning. Might also secretly come from high society.

Standoffish mechanic: He’s a jerk, but he’s so lovable. Would die for protag boy. Protag boy gushes over his inventions and it boosts his ego way too much. He comes off as arrogant and cocky but he’s a real softie deep down :’) He butts heads with edgy boy a LOT. There’s some weird sexual tension going on there that nobody else wants to bring up. The “everyone is so not worth my time except for the people I love and care about” kind of guy. He will be brutally honest with you.

Non-binary parental figure: The oldest one in the group who watches over all the others. Very gentle and kind hearted, but willing to be strict if necessary. Acts as a sort of mentor figure to protag boy (and p much everyone else tbh). Is arguably the most powerful member of the group, but rarely ever uses their magic. They’re the kind of person that lets their kids learn their lessons the hard way. Is the first one to figure out mute girl’s story and acts as her confidant.

Violin boy: Has a history with mute girl and went through a similar trauma as her. Due to a misunderstanding he holds a serious grudge against mute girl which is eventually solved. He probably ends up joining the group. Or just runs into them once in a while. He’s socially awkward and can’t hold a good conversation to save his life…unless it’s with mute girl. Is actually very attractive but hides his looks due to low self esteem. Thanks trauma.

Himbo: I’m holding out for a himbo til the end of the night

(Dumb and strong and respects women and ride or die. Also gremlin girl’s best buddy and unofficial guardian. I really don’t have much else to say about him I honestly haven’t given him a lot of thought yet.)

Healer girl: Soft spoken and kind, she takes care of the group’s injuries and provides support in battle. Everyone’s a little intimidated by her bc she’s scary when they don’t immediately come to her for medical treatment after battle, or brush off their injuries. Grows close with mute girl. Is the calming presence of the group, and everyone comes to her when they are stressed. (This causes her to have a complex about being the calm one, the cheerful one, the one who always has their shit together. This is unhealthy. Lmao)

Smart girl: “I’m surrounded by idiots but they’re MY idiots” kind of person. Brilliantly clever and quick witted and has a sharp tongue. Thinks protag boy is SO dumb but she loves him anyway and has absolute faith in him. Has a loving family back home and gets embarrassed when her softer family side is brought up since she’s kinda arrogant and cold. Regularly spars with edgy boy. Gets easily flustered and then gets angry about it.

Cute baker: His pastries are SCRUMPTIOUS. He wears glasses. And has freckles. And he’s nerdy and kinda shy and awkward and he’s perfect. He’s more of a behind the scenes kind of strategist. He works with mechanic boy a lot to improve on their gadgets and gizmos and also on food related things. Is also wickedly smart but more in the book smart kind of way (while smart girl is street smart. Life experience smart.)

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! What a delightful and spooky Halloween week. As usual, this list is not comprehensive, but this is what stood out to me this week. Some spoilers ahead, in the shape of vibes~

🩸Hemophobia did NOT disappoint. My word. The strange disconnected way the story was told; the fact that the sermons were more coherent and clear than the action; the Extremely Teenage Teens. Man. I cannot wait to listen to this next episode.

🦀 THE SILT VERSES. Every day I think about Faulkner. The person he is. The apostle and the fool. Jeez louise. I can’t tell if he’ll save the faith or obliterate it and take everyone down with him. @thesiltverses

🌊 Modes of Thought In Anterran Literature - is that Felix Trench??? On the one hand, hearing a familiar voice does break the immersion a little, like the most unnerving part of this show is how real it feels; on the other hand, Felix did such a good job, the immersion break didn’t last long. This new character sucks, i love him.

👻 Palimpsest!!!! New palimpsest!!!! Easily one of my favorite single-narrator shows, and this one is set in the 1920s, which is one of my favorite historical periods. They’re also very good at a horrible subtle twist, so I can’t wait to hear more about this ghost.

😈 Kakos Industries is literally always good, but I really feel for Corin being like “PLEASE leave me alone on Halloween.” Man, this show is funny. Why isn’t it more popular. Please listen to Kakos Industries. They’re on hiatus, there’s no better time to catch up. @kakosindustries

🍔 Mayfair Watcher’s Society always knows how to get to me. It’s like, the absolute corruption of the Normal into something horrific and wretched is the point of the show, especially when it’s something you always suspected was messed up. Like a fast food job. I shudder.

🌲HALLOWOODS JEEZ. Mx Wellman did in fact try to kill me. I survived. I WISH SOME OTHER FOLKS HAD. @hellofromthehallowoods

❄️ Red Valley. Man alive. One of the things I love about this show is how there are no real heroes, but this season from the POV of the villains—the architects of the apocalypse, in a lot of ways. Creeps. It’s delicious. Today’s episode, watching Clive finally reaping what he sowed, was absolutely glorious. @redvalleypod

🦷 Welcome to Night Vale - HOBOY. Idk if the return of Kevin is going to be a plot point, but it’s the perfect idea for a Halloween ep. Chilling work as always, Kev! It’s also fun to listen to him seethe about his loss of power.

🅿️ Podcube is always a delightful treat, but this week had a fantastic little bit of sound design, which I’m told is this sound designer’s first attempt at such a thing. He did a great job! I love this show, everyone listen to PodCube. @podcube

👑 Malevolent: We’re Back To The Horrors. I’m honestly relieved. Arthur having friends and family is so scary, I keep waiting for something horrible to happen to them. And now something has! Which is not to say more terrible things won’t happen, but i feel like the other shoe has dropped. This is not a criticism at all, Harlan is so good at this.

🌞 I finished Fall of the House of Sunshine this week and…it made me cry? This goof goof show made me CRY? It really is just You Make Your Own Meaning The Musical, isn’t it? If this show had to have a moral, then “even if all you can do is something small, it matters” is a pretty good one. The fact that there was a moral at all is pretty miraculous. I’m going to go listen to the soundtrack a million times now.

🧛🏻‍♂️ Re: Dracula is coming to an end in just a few days and here is a secret: i haven’t heard these last few eps yet. Tal and Stephen finished working on them while I was in the thrall of New Job, so I get to hear their excellent sound work new with you. I am so excited for the final showdown, let’s GO. @re-dracula

Oh it's Dew for sure to me.

He's always characterized as either a) a complete asshole with no regard for others or b) the whiniest, most pathetic little thing that cries at the drop of a hat. To me it seems like most people characterize him as younger than the other ghouls. Maybe not consciously, but it sure reads that way a lot of the time. Like he's completely emotionally immature and only capable of having a single personality trait (see above).

Like. Has no one seen how soft he can be on stage? I get that he had his little tiffs with Aether and sometimes chokes Rain, but for the most part he's such a softie. He plays with Swiss and dances when Nihil's casket gets brought out. He teases the crowd and clearly has fun with it. He has a whole personality!!

It's unfair to pigeonhole him as "the aggressive one", and I honestly don't know where the idea of him being a pathetic little crybaby came from, but it bothers me to no end every time I see him cry the second someone so much as kisses his neck or something.

but yes. reigning opinion seems to be that the babyfied version of dew is overwritten and very 2D. as well as the 'will burn your eyebrows at the drop of a pin' dew. ive touched on these things a little already.

but. dew is the fandom favorite, id say. the one everyone loooves to throw trauma onto. he is the very definition of 'put that guy in a situation'. he is very commonly written as the focus of many fics, whatever the genre. and to me, its so interesting that so many of us dont like these common headcanons, and do go out of our way to write our own versions, yet these things still stay the overarching theme. why is that? rhetorical question, really, but i do think the 'over emotional' idea of dew is very prevalent.

and, like ive said previously, i think he's much more stoic than that. he def shows some emotion. like cirrus, hes not a robot or anything. we see that on stage, of course, with the bits and what not. i think he knows when to joke, when to offer a hug, or when to get fired up about something (excuse the pun)

but i dont think hes going around lighting shit on fire cause something minor happened. do i think hed do that in certain circumstances? yeah absolutely. especially if youre of the belief that this ghoul has gone through some shit. has seen death and treason and went through an entire shift of all the atoms in his fucking body.

but hes strong, resilient. as well as soft and caring. to me, this is a ghoul that listens, that cares so fucking deeply. but he's calm about most things. observant. and a little frisky when he feels up for it.

and river, yes, he's so protective. like i said, most of us think hes seen some shit. so why wouldnt he be more level headed, stronger mentally, because hes seen what being reactive can do to a ghoul

and i really like your take on the different elements hes had and how that transfers to his personality. because there are so many nuances in elements in general! and i even have different ideas to how he acted as a newly summoned water ghoul verses a more 'seasoned' one. and some dont even believe he changed elements at all! but i agree, i dont think hes some shy little pretty water ghoul and nothing more. that boy had sass even back then, maybe even more so. but to me, he's always been that stoic and thoughtful ghoul that i do my best to write him as haha. there are far better writers of dew than i, but i for sure agree with y'all that there's things he isnt.
