an overview of the difficulties in finding common decency, basic communication, and kindness during a job search:
of the 201 positions i've applied to this year, i have completed:
- 4 writing samples/questionnaires/assessments (i was not compensated for my time or work, but they did at least let me know i would not be moving forward).
- 4 online face-to-face interviews (i have been ghosted by 2 of these).
- i've received communication about rejection or postponement/cancellation of the position from only 74 of 201.
(p.s. i recognize people are overworked. trust me, i've been there. but email scripts exist for a reason.
(p.p.s. yes, i send a thank you email after every direct interaction.)
(p.p.p.s. i recently hired a resume writer to help me get through the ATS b*llsh*t, so fingers crossed that progress will be made soon.)

Do what you love?
I still don't know how this site works but I'm posting thoughts that didn't belong anywhere else. Been unemployed going on 3 weeks now and having lots of thoughts (TM) about what I'd actually like to do. A lot of people say, do what you love. But, in my experience, that's a double edged sword. The job I got fired from, was in the car industry. I used to love cars. But this past job... well, now I can't look at cars without cringing and having terrible memories of being ostracized and bullied. There's a lot of things I enjoy doing. Writing, taking photos, fashion, etc. There's this fear now that... what if I join those industries and end up hating it, just like recent job? There are no right or wrong answers. Things I'm still mulling. Where I belong, where I will be welcomed. At the end of the day though... being queer + Korean + autistic + chronically ill is a tough spot to be in. I'm a spiky star shape staring at round pegs.

HR- how should we find them?
Boss- let the robots screen them, they will find the best human candidate.

Im laying my bets now. the entire idea that autism (and adhd) is more common in men and boys is pure myth created by poor science, backwards statistics and faulty parameters of the condition itself. in another 50 years we will understand it was never a gendered condition. just a highly gendered and biased measurement system. i'm absurdly confident on that
the rates of autism in girls is "rising" exponentially. it is rising even more exponentially in girls than in boys. not because girls are becoming more autistic. but because the "science" is just getting better at measuring and accurately acknowledging autism in girls.
autism often does present differently in girls, due to how girls are raised or personality differences. the literature and criteria was based on boy sample groups. the entire research data was done on white men as if that is a standard default person and control group.
not only that, doctors and teachers and parents literally were not looking for it in girls under the false widely propagated belief it was rare in women in girls. it is a self fulfilling prophecy. that's not science.
we will soon have to reckon with the lost generations of autistic girls and women and children assigned female at birth* who never got diagnosis and early intervention. we should be forcing the world to reckon with it right now. a great deal of autistic millennial women are brilliant minds who dropped out of STEM and the workforce due to their untreated and misidentified disability overtaking their life. the impact of never Knowing you or your child is autistic or adhd is difficult to comprehend for autistic and adhd people who did get diagnosed as children. even when the awareness and interventions were unhelpful or harmful. the harm of not knowing means the child trying even harder to become neurotypical and a level of autistic burnout few others on the spectrum can comprehend, often taking place after the woman is a legal adult, and there are no legal protections in place for this disabled person.
the unmitigated stress of being developmentally delayed and never knowing it, simply hating and blaming yourself and fighting day in and out past your limits to become neurotypical, limits your don't know you should have because you have never been so much as briefed on what adhd or autism can feel like. you don't know the distres and tiredness you're feeling is "dysregulation". this is why we see women in nervous breakdowns. psychiatric wards. treatment resistant depression. electric shock therapy. hard drug addiction. cutting. homelessness. personality disorders. dissociation. psychosis. early death by accident or suicide. (obviously people who are not autistic or adhd have these illnesses but my point is untold and disproportionate numbers of them are undiagnosed neurodivergent with unprocessed trauma. i'm telling you. more than you think).
it's why we see young people on tiktok not faking DID per say, but describing a dissociated experiences and fractured sense of self and escapist alternate personalities, a mental illness that has much less in common with traditional DID, but has much in common with struggling and under-treated autistic people. DID is a very rare condition. autism is very common. autism can create out of body experiences and self protective blurring of reality and fantasy so extreme, no person can be expected to understand it is autism if they never been advised about their own disability and the knowledge that should he available to them. it's no wonder we have people with mislabeled rare disorders like DID who are clearly very sick but instead of showing real DID signs, are sick with all the signs of severe unassisted autism they have been completely barred from understanding or coping with in any other way. for those lucky enough, we see unemployed young women with severe chronic pain in their 20s and 30s who look and feel like they're elderly and gave up their dreams when they hit 21 or 25 and their brains stopped working and their bodies shut down. now they mostly scroll tumblr and tiktok and try to remember to open the blinds. they have a roof but people scorn them for entitled laziness and worst of all derided for "self diagnosing".
again i'm asking why CFS chronic fatigue syndrome is so responsive to adderall. i'm asking why professionals are reluctant to test women for adhd if she does well in school because she is very bookish and why experts in the field are openly amused and doubtful to test a woman for autism if she has a long term boyfriend. why is ability to mask or function a disqualification. why is inability to function in women, who later turn out to be autistic or adhd, so aggressively mischaracterized as BPD, bipolar, depression, OCD, schizophrenia. why is autism and adhd clinically diagnosed and defined by distress and dysfunction and not by intrinsic traits and qualities that present while still functional for preventative care. why are all people, men and women forced to wait until their lives and minds are deteriorating and they have experienced some irreversible disasters and pain before they can be diagnosed. why must girls and boys wait until their daily life as children have become unbearable hell for them before their disability can be treated and acknowledged. and if these policies are changing now, why are doctors and psychiatrists not eagerly and urgently reaching out to find the vulnerable adults they missed during more archaic screening methods. we aren't rising in adhd diagnosis because of tiktok you assholes. adult onset adhd and autism don't exist. those people were always adhd. adult onset skill regression and increase in severity due to stress DOES happen in adulthood. modern day stresses like loss of structure during the pandemic and social media is advancing to become more attention span draining. everyone is feeling the effects but these are causing adhd and autistic people to cope less and mask less effectively so they are running into significant problems, their loved ones are noticing, they are getting referrals and suddenly forced to google their rapidly worsening mental issues for the first time and seeing they line up with a known neurological condition . this is obvious. doctors blaming it on some sort of trend are being willfully clueless
*because autism especially is screened identified diagnosed and first intervened ages 2-5, before a child has an internal concept of self or gender and above all before they can express their gender, diagnostic practices and criteria are based on how adults perceive a child via birth assignments. and the studies are overwhelmingly beholden to data only on children assigned male at birth, rarely accounting for their actual future gender either. as part of the warped science insisting that autism is as if somehow linked to the y chromosome and not a universally likely human quality, you see amab kids laser focused on as candidates and afab kids fucked over most of all. all children assigned female have the worst chances of their developmental disability being identified and acknowledged in a timely manner and disproportionately experience late diagnosis in later adolescence or adulthood. tho i wouldn't be surprised if trans womens rates of accurate diagnosis is lower than cis men. as trans girls may present autism differently and characteristic of girls autism, even while still in the closet or before she knows she is trans. regardless adults are very vigilant for signs of autism, even atypical ones, in any child they perceive as a boy. so any millennial or gen z child identified female at birth had significantly worse chance at receiving autistic support compared to peers
in particular women assigned male at birth might have a better chance at being identified for types of autism that are often labeled "high functioning", involves high masking, and often receives few services. these more invisible types of autism often need to be diagnosed before age 5 in order to qualify under the criteria at all. and so in the days where autism was believed to be 20x more common in the genetics of xy children, any chance of being considered and diagnosed would come down to almost purely birth assignment dependent. with the less outwardly visible types of autism, a person who misses this window will remain autistic all their life but once they learn a certain level of skills and masking, no matter how late they learn these, the person will no longer qualify for diagnosis, either not until they have a nervous breakdown or possibly not ever qualify. it's this type of more hidden autism we see struggling across the board as undiagnosed adults including both trans and cis women especially, tho we are seeing it disproportionately even more so in undiagnosed afabs of any gender. who are dropping out of schooling and work and succumbing to severe mental illnesses during what should be the prime of their lives. overall tho birth assignment is not everything this is an issue that disproportionately impacts cis women. trans women. trans men. non-binary people. likely doubling for those that are afab. and then tripling and quadrupling for children who are not white.
bit of an understatement in that last part there. gender likely isn't even the biggest barrier to proper diagnosis and treatment. probably race is even more so. but since gender is such a big disparity in itself across race and one i relate to and can speak on from experience ive focused on it here. a more in-depth look is needed on the neglect of adhd and autistic children of color especially black native and latino kids. but for now do keep in mind the points i'm making increase exponentially for kids who aren't white across all genders including cis boys

You see unlike us virtuous millennials, those dang Zoomers weren't Send Down to the Coffeeshops to learn hard work, grit and determination because this time the dang government didn't let everyone stay unemployed forever. We need to mandate that Zoomers spend a year's duty doing tour working in the mall so they learn the proper work ethic.

There are over 50% of Millennials and Gen Z that would rather be unemployed than to be unhappy. Even though I'm one of them, I don't blame them. Our government just sent billions of our tax dollars to fund a genocide. The same tax dollars that would have help with us getting free healthcare or a liveable wage. At this point, what's the point of working for a country that doesn't provide for us?

Note
It’s been a few years since my unemployed period but there were a few things that helped me, that maybe will help you. If not, that’s cool, everyone is different.
1) Work smarter not harder with job applications. When you’re sending out hundreds a week and getting nothing it can feel like the solution is to blanket the world with more of them. Nope. If you’re sending too many, you’re not targeting them the way you need to. One solid application is worth way more than five half-assed ones. It may take you two hours to edit your resume to use the same language as the job posting and write a specific cover letter. With that in mind 2-4 applications is the max you should be sending per day, and you should only be sending them 5 days a week.
2) Pick a schedule. You said you’re burnt out, so schedule four hours a day (five days max) for applications and hold yourself to that. Set alarms on your phone for the start and end time. It’s your job right now so treat it as such but it’s okay to try to calm the burnout by making it a part time job for a minute. And when I say hold yourself to it I mean hold yourself to it only being four hours. Obviously if you’re almost done with an application finish it out, but don’t start another. If you finish one at 3.5hrs let yourself quit for the day.
3) As scary as it is, remember that mentioning you’re hunting for a job is a way to network. It’s okay to say you’re unemployed. It’s hard, because this country places so much emphasis on what you do for a living as your worth, but really. Most people, especially millennials and younger, have been in your shoes and dealt with the ridiculousness of the job hunt in the modern age. Let them commiserate and also keep their eyes open for you.
4) It really really does get better. Your mid-twenties is just the absolute worst. I’m in my mid-thirties and it’s not all unicorns and glitter but it is endlessly better than my mid-twenties. Breathe. You’re okay, and you’re going to be okay. This is just hard and it’s okay to find it hard.
yeah i’m very intentional with which jobs i apply for and tailor my resume and cover letter for every single one, which is really time consuming for me bc i overthink everything. it’s also hard trying to fit the mold for a job you don’t have the experience for, which is most of them at this point. i def need to be better at timing myself and holding myself to it bc oftentimes i get carried away and lose track of time. thanks for all the advice!

k-drama reclist!
Hello! While most recent fic is off to the betas and I’m waiting for new inspiration to strike, I thought I would write a love letter to all some of the best shows that have touched my heart this last year or so. As always, these rulings are 100% factual and correct, and categories include such necessary requirements as Is It Gay?, Blorbo Squad,  and Does the boy cry?
Tale of the Nine-Tailed
Tumblr media
Plot: Producer of an urban supernatural tv show with ZERO CHILL keeps finding herself running into Actual Supernatural Beings who mostly try to eat her, except for the weirdest of all, a Nine-Tailed fox who’s working off his debt to the underworld and mostly moping about the death of his long lost love. The first half of this show feels like early spn in the BEST way, and the second half genuinely ruined me for most tv romances. Chemistry? Off the charts. Is it gay? No, but the het romance is so fucking good I forgive it. Do the boy cry? Y E S. Did not realize how starved for Men Feeling Emotions I was until I started watching asian shows, jfc. Women? multifaceted bamfs. Blorbo squad? Yes we ARE actually going to adopt his evil brother kicking and screaming and he will just have to feel some feelings about it. Music? I’m not joking when I say that half of my spotify top ten were songs from this soundtrack. Rewatchability? I’ve watched it twice and would watch again.
Beyond Evil
Tumblr media
Plot: What’s a word for someone who’s SO outta fucks to give that he’s totally fine being suspected of his sister’s murder again because at this point it’s funny? That’s Lee Dongsik, a Been There Done That Detective who’s been kicked back to his shitty home town, which immediately starts popping up murders exactly like his sister’s from 20 years ago! And who should come on the scene but Starving For Affection Being Right Detective Han Juwon who is here to FIND ANSWERS!!(TM!)! Though mostly his methods seem to be marching up to potential murderers and begging them to confess. Anyway this show is a fucking DELIGHT of twists, turns, out-loud gasps, and sizzling hot Will-They-Won’t-They(Arrest Each Other For Murder). Is it gay? MMMMMMYES. Look at that gif! Are they gonna fight? Fuck? Who knows, least of all them! Do the boys cry? mueheheheheheeeeee. multiple times. in the rain. DELIGHTFUL. Women? Multi. Dimensional. What a concept!! No useless love interests! Will fuck you up and egg your car! Blorbo Squad. A+++ food family, work family, fucked up misfits who are going to get each other through this if it kills them. Additional notes: someone on the internet described this show as Hannibal (without cannibalism) + Hot Fuzz, and that is...not inaccurate.
Crash Landing on You
Tumblr media
Plot: When Mega Rich Design CEO Seri accidentally parachutes into North Korea, and is somewhat reluctantly rescued and hidden by an army officer and his squad of blorbos soldiers. This is a really fascinating glimpse into the differences of North and South (and from what the internet says, former North Koreans agree that the depictions are pretty spot-on) and all the ways people are just...people, when it comes down to it. Chemistry? Phenomenal. A slow blossoming of two people who have been injured in very different ways and the ways they can grow together despite increasing difficulties. Blorbos? The best. I miss them. The genuine delight I feel seeing any of these actors again in other shows cannot be expressed. Music? I mean, FUCK, the music is its own character, own plot device, own heartbreak. FUCK. Rewatchability: I’ve watched it twice and I want to watch it again RIGHT NOW. Additional notes: Court Lady Choi AND the King from Mr. Queen are in this show!! MY LOVES!
Tomorrow
Tumblr media
Plot: Desperately unemployed millennial accidentally falls off a bridge and winds up in a coma, where he strikes a deal: join the “elite” Grim Reaper Squad trying to prevent suicides, and he’ll get out of his coma faster! WARNING: Because this show deals with suicides in all shapes and forms, this show is not going to be right for everyone. ALSO, because our team leader is going through some shit on her own, I would argue that the first suicide attempt she handles is Not Great. However, she does learn and they all get better together. Do the boys cry? Yes, even the Big Bad (who I think would especially appeal to a certain demographic of tumblr seeing as he looks like a Korean Kylo Ren). Chemistry? BDE (Big Divorce Energy). Women? GOOOOODDD IS A WOOOOMANNN. Also, the women in this are allowed to make bad decisions! Blorbos? Kinda weird that our own entry character into this behind the scenes world winds up as more a blorbo than a main character. This isn’t a complaint, I love him and love seeing this actor again from The King’s Affection. Our giant puppy man WILL make friends with everyone, and that’s a fact. Additional notes: This show is both a good watch and a hard watch. Make sure you’re hydrated and have tissues on hand, especially for ep 9 which fails Does The Dog Die.
Other shows that I have feelings about (but maybe not wholly good feelings) below the cut:
Vincenzo: stunning cinematography, great writing, great blorbos, //absolutely NO chemistry between himself and the leading lady.// It sure says something when the lead male has better a better chance of romance with the leading lady’s dad. For all that, though, the Big Bads were fantastic, the fight scenes were stunning, and the character arc of Vincenzo and his mom was where the actors in this really shone. 9/10
The Devil Judge: I wanted to like this show. The first half was really solid, deliciously gay, and full of found family. But none of the characters actually...grew? Or changed? Ultimately unsatisfying. 6/10
Crowned Clown: STUNNING, PHENOMENAL acting. Prince and the Pauper if the Prince was also a fucking psychopath. Absolutely riveting for nearly all of it, but the last episode works too hard to shoehorn the story back into plausible historical fiction, and it loses a lot of impact for it. Yeo Jin-goo (also from Beyond Evil, Hotel Del Luna) REALLY flexes all of his astounding acting muscles in this and pulls off the coin flip of both characters flawlessly. TW: for rape of a young teen, near rape of the queen. 9/10
Hotel Del Luna: Since I mentioned it above, there was one point where I was watching HdL and CC at the same time and Did Not Realize Yeo Jin-goo starred in both of them??? Part my own face blindness, part completely different contexts. TBH I enjoyed everything about this show except for the last 20 minutes, which fucked up an otherwise deeply impactful ending. This is a show about death, revenge, growth, and moving on. I also didn’t feel like the main ship was all that good, but the blorbos will be with me for a good long while. 8/10
The Rookie Historian: Do Not Watch This Show. jfc. Everything good about the premise (Prince who writes romance! Girl who hates his books!) was wiped off the map within the first few episodes. If this show had been a tight 8 eps the pacing wouldn’t have been so off? But it was grueling by the end and we gave up and read a synopsis of the last four eps. Did not feel like we had missed out by quitting early, should have quit even sooner. 2/10
My Only Love Song: Pure fluff, but pretty fun fluff if you’re looking for something light. The time traveling van was the best part of this show, and needed more air time. 7/10
100 Days My Prince: Thoroughly enjoyable! Delightful use of face blindness as a plot point! Main ship cute as hell! OHO! 9.5/10
My Shy Boss: Some fuckery near the end, but mostly pretty solid. GREAT Phantom of the Opera vibes, no real bad guy only bad choices made by delightfully complex people! Maybe the true friends were the anxiety disorders we tackled along the way. 9.5/10

📚 STUFF I READ 📚
🥰 Second Chances in New Port Stephen (TJ Alexander, author; Aden Hakimi & Feodor Chin, narrator) - 2nd chance romance between 2 former HS sweethearts after Eli comes back home to his small FL home town (post-transition & unemployed due to proximity to an industry scandal) and reconnects with Nick (who left for college, came back, got married & divorced and became a (hot) dad). The Coming Days are Hard
If it’s not obvious, the reason the republicans are going full on evil is because millennials and GenZ , especially GenZ, have very few conservatives. As these kids grow up and able to vote, they orient toward the left meaning in just a few years as these old boomer republicans die off, they will lose more and more elections.
So they got their crooked Supreme Court rooted in there to overturn any and all birth control, abortion rights, gay rights, etc issues. They think by banning birth control and abortions and books, more stupid kids who don’t read will fill up the right once more. Kids who don’t read, don’t rationalize or think critically. Boom! Republican.
But they’re too impatient to wait for today’s elementary school kids to become eligible to vote and they see the writing on the wall. If they want their agenda of tax cuts and passing laws against minorities (so they don’t live near them), then they’ve got to go full on fascist.
In a fascist government, the party in power controls everything and if you question it, you disappear.
So since many of you are holding Israel’s Gaza Genocide against Biden —and rightfully so, it’s horrible—the unfortunate side effect is you’re selling out to the republicans and ending 250 years of American Democracy by handing over the country to a president who will dismantle democracy, cancel future elections and basically crown himself king and designate one of his woefully stupid kids as his heir. He might have token elections like Russia does in which Putin wins each time.
Trump calls everyone on the left (liberals, progressives, leftists) vermin, just like Hitler and Mussolini did. (Both were fascists as well). And Trump is modeling everything he does after them. I compared the similarities on this blog a while back. There are so many.
If you are an immigrant, or of Hispanic origin or Central American, African American, Asian, trans, gay, atheist, unemployed, a critic of Trump, an artist, teacher, philosopher, musician, writer, democrat, independent, it is likely we’ll all be rounded up and detained in the camps they are building.
See, those who don’t remember their history are doomed to repeat it. And Trump so desperately wants to be a dictator, that he will follow his Hitler by numbers formula and destroy American democracy all at once.
It will take another civil war to get it back. Most people, because their lives are so busy, will accept it so they can just keep their heads down and not call attention to themselves while they live their lives.
People will be taken off the steeets. Trump will have a private army to do his bidding. These will be dark days indeed. I have no desire to endure such hardship and live while others are being oppressed. I have no intention of surviving the revolution but I will participate.
More later. Vive la revolutión!
Vote Biden even though you don’t like him. Fuck Trump!

What am I doing here?
I have been putting off posting because I knew it was this that I wanted to post. I wanted to address the question, why did I make a band tumbler? Is that a thing? Honestly, I don't know, but this band, as small and doomed to obscurity as it is means a lot to me, and I’m going to explain why.
So, 5 years or so I lived in Germany. I was about to qualify to do my dream job for the rest of my life, which would have guaranteed that my new wife and I would have a house in our lifetime (a pretty wild dream for a millennial) and could start making those good solid long term plans.
Then my muscles started to twitch and I started to forget things. At first infrequently, but over time more and more. By the time I realised I had to abandon my dreams I couldn’t rely on my memory to get me through tasks I’d been doing for years and I all but never slept at night.
I left my career behind thinking it was stress and I had just burned out. It happens more than people admit and is talked about far less than it should be. I’m pretty certain it shouldn’t be possible for people to be traumatised out of any job if its expectations of them are reasonable, but either way. That was the assumption.
Then it just carried on. For 5 years I have been tired, in pain and had hypo-mobility. Eventually I was told it was migraines. This was hard to accept, as I am unbothered by loud noises or light and don’t have a particularly high rate of headaches, but I’m not a doctor.
What is important is that on some days, and I can never predict when, I am useless. Other days are anywhere between useless and fine. So I find myself unemployed, while my wife (who is a star) works all day.
I get lonely. I get bored. I am perpetually depressed. I was doing nothing with my time and hating myself for it.
Then I went back to visit friends in Germany. At some point we realised that our limitations and abilities overlapped enough for us to form a band.
From 2 different nations the 2 of us work slowly but dedicatedly on producing songs that will, hopefully, make a hand full of people go “Hey, that was alright.”
And it is, quite honestly, what gets me out of bed most days.
Ditch Adder and related things make me able to feel like I’m part of the world and for that I’m always grateful. I decided a while ago to keep a diary to assist with my failing memory and I have decided that the less mundane parts belong here. I don’t know if I will end up better or worse and what medication may be able to do for me, but I want this to be a record of the journey to that. You will always be welcome to come along with me.
Jensen
It would mean the world to me if you considered looking at-

You Are Here
Hi! I'm Bee, a millennial who spends way too much time playing with computers. I'm currently unemployed because childcare costs the Earth. So, I'm trying to use my time wisely and setting out on a journey to expand my coding knowledge. I started coding years ago (DOS at 4) and picked up HTML & CSS at uni (a long time ago). But now it's time to really get into it and learn some modern languages.
Along the way, I hope to give something back to the RP community that really got me into it all in the first place. Some post templates, some JCINK skins, some notion templates and a few maps I draw for funsies.
