Gift Giving

Affection had never been something she got much of. It's something her parents struggled with to the point that it seemed like they were always distant. Both with each other and her.

She is affection starved. It's a fact Lando knew about before they even started dating.

He knew it was going to be difficult to warm her up to it at first. He just needs to find her love language and use that to his advantage.

First on the list: gifts.

Lando, in all honesty, does not think this is her favorite thing. He's seen her at Christmas almost die at the thought of people spending money on her.

But he has money, and he wants to use it on her.

He starts out small with things she needs and doesn't make a big deal out of it. She mentions a snack she's craving, and he has it for her the next day. If she complains all her socks are starting to get holes in them, there are new socks in her drawer the next morning.

He keeps it small, and she appreciates it.

Acts of service

Lando isn't expecting her reaction to this one to be so overwhelming. He purposely makes it a point to do small things like clean up around the house and check of tasks on her to-do list.

She doesn't know how to act at first. It's like she's a robot with no programming or direction. Eventually she warms up to the idea and she learns she can just thank him, be grateful, and move on with the day.

It takes a while to get there, and he has to remind her several times that she doesn't need to try and do everything on her own.

Plus, Lando finds it nice doing mundane tasks when his world is so chaotic and crazy most the time.

Quality time

This one is something they both do on the regular anyways. It's one of Lando's major love languages. He himself needs quality time. The difference here is that Lando makes it a point to do her favorite things that she struggles asking him to do with her.

He takes her to see movies she's been talking about for months. They go to the concerts of her favorite bands that maybe he doesn't like as much. He plays her favorite games with her that he sucks at and watches her smile when she wins.

In a way, it's like watching a child get to do all the things she never got to. Always too busy trying to take care of herself growing up. It's one of his favorite things to see.

Her childish smile makes him fall deeper every time.

Physical touch

Everyone knows Lando is clingy. Every moment of everyday he is touching somebody. Not in a weird way, mind you. Simply hugging, holding, cuddling, shoulder patting, anything that keeps him in close proximity to the people he cares about.

It was something she wasn't used to at first. His touch starved human had no idea how to reciprocate his endless bouts of physical needs.

She caught on quick. A fast study. Now she may even be as clingy as him.

People are so disgusted by their constant public displays of affection. It's a never ending well of tight hugs and stolen kisses.

If she goes to him for affection, he never turns her away. It doesn't matter what he's doing. He could be streaming, and he will not hesitate to either turn it off or if she's comfortable will let her cuddle him while he's gaming.

Words of affirmation

This is the one that got her. He wasn't expecting her to be so shocked when he said he was proud of her for eating three meals that day. Or stutter and blush when he said she's the most gorgeous person he has ever placed eyes on.

He makes it a point to remind himself to say things like that to her. Even the littles compliments.

Sometimes she cries and tries to tell him he's wrong. How he's the only one who has ever said such things about her. Oh, how he wishes he could go back and meet her sooner and tell her all the things she deserves too here.

He is constantly showering her in compliments and reassurance. He reminds her she is worthy of praise and affection. She cries about it sometimes and he just holds her and tells her that she's worthy.

He does it daily and as often as he can. He would start every sentence about her with a compliment if he could.

Her parents may not have given her the affection she deserves. But he will, and he'll make sure she gets all the affection he can give because she deserves it.

You shouldn't have seen those comments, you should've just see the post. Those comments were worst than the first you saw before. The way Anne replied their comments, and didn't even care about the others. What's her actual problem with you? You both were never interacting before. All you know is Anne's post was absolutely a lie because you didn't even care abour her or thinking about her when you talking to Ellie for the first time until you dating with her.

It was your first time getting really really bad comments and death threats. You were definitely scared. Firstly they said they'll spit on you on Monday morning if you show up, and now they wishing you dead.

Shadow Milk x Reader but it's the Megamind rain scene (I had a vision)

I'm not a fanfic writer, so expect this to be a bit rushed and written badly in some parts 🤷🏻‍♀️😅

Shadow Milk Cookie had been terrorizing the city you lived in for as long as you could remember, he either manipulated other Cookies to fight each other or he just made his presence known to random Cookies by playing pranks on them and spreading lies and let chaos ensue.

Sure, he’s a huge menace to society who likes to play God and tortures all Cookiekind for his own entertainment, but there was something about him that made you wonder if he was more than just a dangerously devious trickster. It was the way he interacted with you.

Ever since you two first met, before all hell broke loose, he saw you on the news announcing the latest on the new museum dedicated to the city’s hero. He was so interested in you he wanted to talk to you all day everyday, but he felt too shy to do so, yet he yearned for the day he could fearlessly walk up to you and introduce himself.

After his corruption, his love for you grew so much that it turned into an obsession, he couldn’t bear to be away from you for much longer, so the next best thing was to kidnap you every chance he got to hang out with you, until the city’s Hero eventually saves you and takes you away from him. He absolutely HATES IT when they do that, how dare they take away his favorite Cookie in the world and leave him alone to rot in his lonesome?? He'd rather have that so-called Hero torn limb from limb like ripping a doll's limbs off, so he came up with the brilliant idea to write them off the story by stabbing them 37 times in the chest and leaving their body in the middle of a dark alley, where someone found it and everyone mourned the selfless Hero for days. You even made an announcement for the news about the topic, you were holding back tears, something Shadow Milk Cookie did not like to see. He hated to see you feeling sad, especially since you were sad about the Hero's death because why would you feel that way over someone so weak like them?? You were better off with a much stronger, smarter, extremely more handsome Cookie than some piece of cardboard he called the Hero, he thought to himself.

A few days later, Shadow Milk Cookie decided to disguise himself as a regular Cookie, naming himself "Blueberry Muffin Cookie". He thought that it was finally time to shoot his shot and start hanging out with you again after the whole "dead hero" thing. You first met Blueberry Muffin Cookie while you were revisiting the museum for the third time in the same week. He seemed kind and gentle with you, he didn't talk much but did make the effort to listen to you, so you didn't feel so lonely. You two started hanging out after the museum encounter, you went to an art gallery, had a few picnics in the park and you were just having a wonderful time.

You didn't realize you were in love with him until he complimented your laugh after he told you a really good joke. You always thought your laugh sounded weird, everyone pointed it out constantly and it made you feel annoyed and insecure about it. But once he told you how much he liked your laugh and how cute it was, you swore you felt something burning in your heart, your face was a bright red and your smile was so genuine it made Blueberry Muffin Cookie blush for a moment. Oh, how he loved you so much, he loved everything about you: Your beautiful face, your kind and courageous self, and that sweet laugh of yours.

After many dates, you both wanted to keep seeing each other. You were so excited for the day that you two could hang out again, you wanted to see his adorable face again, you were giggling and kicking your feet from just thinking about him! Shadow Milk Cookie, on the other hand, couldn't stop thinking about you, he had so many pictures of you, he even had a plushie of you that he made himself for cuddling and playing with. Finally, you arranged a date at a fancy restaurant for both of you and Blueberry Muffin Cookie was SO EXCITED about it that he hugged you and lifted you up in the air, spinning around with you in his arms, both of you laughing heartily. When he stopped spinning, the laughing died down and he put you down next to him, both of you looking at each other and staring into each other's gorgeous eyes. You gave him a kiss on the cheek, a soft smile and left by saying goodbye and see you tomorrow to him, which made him freeze in his place, put his hand on the cheek you kissed, turn as blue as a blueberry and smile so much that it almost made his face hurt. He was so happy to have you by his side, he felt extremely lucky to have you with him.

The next day came and Shadow Milk Cookie was preparing for the night of the restaurant date as fast as he could, when he was reday he tried his best to contain his energy because he was too impatient. He wanted the day to go faster so he could finally see you again. Finally, it was night time at the fancy restaurant, the sky looked like it was gonna rain soon, Cookies were eating and hanging out either outside or in the same restaurant you were in. Some were talking about what they did during their day, others were worried about the next Beast Cookie attack.

But none of that mattered because you were about to eat dinner with the most wonderful Cookie in the world, Blueberry Muffin Cookie. You were waiting patiently for him to show up, he came up to you all dressed up in his finest suit, while you were wearing a beautiful purple dress. You both talked the night away while enjoying the food you ordered. Everything was going great, all the Cookies talking around you ceased to exist, it was just you and your beloved. Things got even better when both of you started to lean in closer to each other, looked at each other, closed your eyes and finally shared a long, soft kiss. You wished this moment could last forever, Blueberry Muffin Cookie Shadow Milk Cookie felt the same way, but something about him was off. Turns out he was using a lot of his magic for the disguise for so long that he was running out of it faster than he thought, he was feeling exhausted from all the energy he spent on keeping the disguise, but now was not the time to think about, now was time to enjoy the rest of the night with your beloved Cookie and... wait... is it just him or did everyone start screaming and crying all of a sudden?

Unfortunately, it wasn't just him hearing all of that, you were hearing it as well. You opened your eyes to see what was going on, and that's when pure, unbridled shock shot through you, you had just realized what everyone was screaming about: you were kissing the monstrous Beast of Deceit, Shadow Milk Cookie! Shadow Milk Cookie opened his eyes and all he saw was true fear in your eyes, he was confused when you shoved him away from you. Your breath was heavy and your mind was rushing through so many thoughts all at once, but the one thought you couldn't shake was the fact that you were hanging out with Shadow Milk Cookie all this time!

"What? What??" He said in a confused yet concerned tone, then his face became pale after he noticed his hands were back to normal, this meant that his disguise wore off! He gasped and exclaimed in a panicked way, saying "DON'T LOOK AT ME!!" while trying to cover your face with his hands being close to his, hoping you wouldn't see him. "It's just a technical glitch! Don't look yet!" he added while trying to gather as much power as he could to change his appearance again, but every time he changed, it would be the other Cookie disguises he's used over the years. Some Cookies were able to recognize the disguises, others were shocked at the fact that he could have been right next to them and they wouldn't have noticed! He changed into a completely different Cookie who wasn't Blueberry Muffin Cookie and said "Where were we?", trying his absolute best to make things go back to normal. But you weren't having it, you quickly grabbed your cup of water and splashed him instantly, making him squirm, revealing his true self.

"You!"

"Now, now hold on!"

"YOU!"

Lighting strikes close by, it started raining a few minutes ago, luckily you were walking under roofs so you wouldn't get soggy. You walked away from the restaurant, avoiding eye contact with any other Cookies you walked past. How could you have been so stupid? It should have been obvious that Blueberry Muffin Cookie was Shadow Milk Cookie from the beginning, but it wasn't! That's how good Shadow Milk Cookie was at disguising himself as another Cookie, he changed his entire personality just to be with you... and that... actually sounds like a big commitment for a common Cookie like yo- WAIT WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! He was clearly using you for one of his evil plans, that had to be it!

Suddenly, a dark mist drifted closer and closer to you, the blue eyes in the shadows gave you a good idea of who it was. "I can explain!" said Shadow Milk Cookie as he came out of the dark mist he created, but you just turned around and growled at this pathetic attempt of redemption. Shadow Milk Cookie got slightly annoyed at this gesture, but he knew he shouldn't feel that way, after all, he's the one who lied to you about everything.

"What about everything you just said? About judging a book by its cover?!" he mentioned something you talked about in the restaurant, something about not judging a book by its cover or a Cookie from the outside. It was something he felt very relieved about because he asked you if you would still enjoy his company if he was blue and unhinged, to which you said yes, which made his heart beat faster and his face shine brighter. One thing you mentioned about the "judging a book" thing tho was... you judge Cookies based on their actions. He said that it seemed kind of petty, which made you laugh, something he enjoyed very much, but the thought of you judging him based on his actions felt like a threat to him, which didn't sit well with him. He would just have to keep the disguise forever until the end of your days (he didn't like to think about that)... until...

"Well, let's take a look at the contents then, shall we?" You started, which made Shadow Milk Cookie's eyes widen by just a bit. "You killed the Hero", you shoved him slightly by tapping his chest, making him stumble backwards, he was not proud of what the situation was turning into, especially since he was the main focus of the drama in a horrible way. "You terrorized the citizens", you shoved him again, his guilt showing on his face. "And then, you actually got me to CARE about you!", you clutched your head for a few seconds before letting go, Shadow Milk Cookie was NOT enjoying this one bit, he loved drama but this was completely different.

"Why are you so evil?? Tricking me?! What could you possibly hope to gain?" you asked and pondered about your question as you looked as Shadow Milk Cookie look down for a moment then look back up again at you with his pupils being a lot bigger than they usually are. He genuinely felt sorry about lying to you, you noticed that by staring into his eyes for a good amount of time and came to a gut-wrenching conclusion: He was in love with you.

Your eyes widened in shock, Shadow Milk Cookie noticed and raised his head with wide eyes as well, what was your final answer? "Wait a minute, oh... I don't believe this..." you began, this made his guts twist in an unpleasant way, he grabbed his full body suit (on the belly area) tightly, making it get wrinkled, he didn't want to hear the next part. "Did you really think that I would ever... be with you?" you finished, SHATTERING Shadow Milk Cookie's evil little heart, it was over, it was so over... he didn't want to let you go, but he had to, he had kept you in the dark for far too long, it would be immoral to drag you into any more problems. Finally, grabbing as much willpower as he could, he responded with "No."

You didn't think he meant that, but you didn't want to stay and find out, so you walked away. As you were getting farther away from him, all Shadow Milk Cookie could do was stare at you, he stretched his hand out to you a bit, but quickly retracted it due to the shame he was feeling. This was the first time he actually felt bad about tricking someone, that someone was you, and he couldn't forgive himself. He turned his gaze down, looking at the floor, he felt something running down his cheeks but can't tell if they're raindrops or teardrops. Either way, it didn't matter, he lost you forever, so he hugged himself to try to fill the void where his heart was, and walked away while still hugging himself, he needed to feel something other than guilt and sorrow.

Something he didn't notice, or even tried to, was you... looking back at him. Even though he lied to you about his true self, you still felt something for him. He put in a lot of effort to talk to you, no one had ever done that for you before. You were usually alone most of the time and not that many Cookies wanted to talk to you, but you felt like Shadow Milk Cookie had made a real connection with you, you never felt so loved by someone else before. He made you laugh, he made you smile, he very much enjoyed your company and you loved him just as much as he loved you. He loved you for who you are, he let you be yourself without judging you, he was all you could ever ask for...

But right now is not the best moment to think about that, so you turned your head and walked away again, straight to the apartment you live in. There, you continued to think about all that just happened and all the times you spent with the blue jester, and you couldn't explain your feelings very well. Meanwhile, Shadow Milk Cookie was sulking in his Spire, regretting lying to you and letting you go, but leaving you was the right thing to do. You two just needed some space to think about stuff, and maybe... just maybe... you two could end up on good terms again. But that depends on the choices you make, so all that can be said is... think about it.

So for some reason I got lost in the Elucien side of tik tok and, of course, they are convinced they are endgame. They are the ones who think Elain avoids Lucien because she’s trying to suppress her attraction to him and what not, but I just think that’s silly. Even though I agree with them about how we don’t know what’s going on in her head, I just find that theory ridiculous, especially when you look at the overall text that surrounds Elain and Lucien.

I am an Elriel supporter and have been since 2017, but I always have that “what if” in the back of my mind because we all know Sarah can just completely forget about what she’s written and do something totally different. My biggest fear is that I won’t ever accept Lucien. Like, I only really support him when I read those tiny moments when he’s talking about or with Vassa, because I can see that. But I’m scared I won’t ever accept Lucien or Elucien because of what we know.

I’ve never truly connected with Lucien. I always saw him as the annoying one. I never could understand why everyone finds him attractive or charming. I moved on quickly when we learned about his history, it didn’t really affect me. He’s just annoying to me. And I know he’s not a bad guy, like I don’t hate him. I just don’t care for him. I literally forgot all about his character in acomaf until he showed up again to kidnap Feyre, and I was totally dumbfounded when he said Elain was his mate. It was the most random thing to me. I remember reading that part 3 times because I thought I was crazy. And I was so so happy when he volunteered to go search for Vassa because that meant he was going to be gone for a while in acowar, and then I forgot about him again unless he was brought up. He’s just a very forgettable character to me and it’s going to take a lot for my opinion to change. Like I honestly hate that someone like Elain got mated to someone like him. It’s the most random thing.

Like 3 brothers x 3 sisters just makes so much sense to me and it’s so perfectly even and symmetrical. 2 brothers x 2 sisters, 1 sister x random guy, 1 brother x random girl just doesn’t make sense at all.

I don’t think I could enjoy the series anymore if Sarah has planned for Elucien and gwynriel all this time because why spend all that time building up Elriel? And I’m sorry, but people who say that they didn’t see Elriel moments as romantic clearly didn’t read them. I know we interpret things differently, but y’all are just delusional if you can’t see that.

I’ll go ahead and say it. The main reason I support vassien is because it gives Lucien a happy ending while elain is free to love who she wants and not who she is told to by the cauldron or whatever. I hate that she is being forced to make a decision that she should never have to make. And it’s not like we don’t have a reason to support vassien, there are some cute little moments between Vassa and Lucien. But even, with a vassien pov, I don’t think I would enjoy Lucien’s part. Another thing, I could totally see him dying. I’ve always thought he would seeing how he was becoming feyre’s friend and what not. That usually happens to that type of character in fantasy stories.

Who knows, though 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m just over all these things with the fandom here lately. From the doxx threats, forcing artists to quit creating art for us because of the hate they receive, the teasing from Bloomsbury, and this stupid ship war, I’m just mentally exhausted from it.

A/N : It was supposed to be something short and simple, but once I started I couldn’t stop and now well, see for yourself Lmao I took it places it shouldn’t have but oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️ enjoyyyy 💕

It was always nerve wracking meeting your significant other's families and close friends, but it was more nerve-wracking when you were going home with your significant other for the holidays. It’s more intimate and it makes you know this was the right path into being in a serious relationship.

You and Jack have been dating almost a year now, even though you had already met his parents, grandparents, his brother and his close friends- the one’s that matter that is- it was still worrisome because it wasn’t just any holiday, it was Christmas Eve and if this isn’t as serious as it gets, you don’t know what was.

“Baby, seriously, relax.” Jack rubs at your shoulders, “You’ve met them all before and they love you.”

You sigh, “I know but I've never done the whole family picture thing.” you lift the pants to show him, “Nor the matching pajamas.”

“It’s just a picture and clothes.” he shrugs.

You raise your eyebrows at him, “It’s not and you know it. Unless you do this yearly with every other girl you bring home.” You shrug “I’ve heard the stories, thank you Grams Harlow.”

Jack chuckles, “Look at you showing your jealous side, I like it.” you roll your eyes and swat his arm, “Nothing to worry about baby, I promise you it’s just my parents and Clay, but also remind me to have a word with my grandmother, she needs to be on my team and tell you how much of a good guy I am.”

You snort, “She loves me more.”

There’s a quick knock to Jack’s childhood bedroom door, “She’s right you know?” his grandma yells, “I’m team YN, and if you ever hurt her, I’ll hunt you down.”

Jack shakes his head, “I believe you grams.” he goes to open the door for his grandma.

“Good” she nods and faces you. “Come on, Maggie and I did something and we want to know what you think of it.”

You smile and head towards her, “It’s okay, I’m stealing her from you.”

Jack's mother and grandmother had made you hot chocolate, but just not any hot chocolate. It was your entire childhood, chocolate abuelita. They definitely made you feel all kinds of emotions since your grandmother would always make it for you during the cold weathers or the holidays.

“Is it good? Jackman called your grandma for us and she gave us some steps to follow.” Maggie asks you.

You blow on the mug, take a sip and sigh. “Oh yeah, this is definitely good.” You smile, “You ladies did a wonderful job.”

Making hot chocolate shouldn’t be a big deal to make right? Well in this case, not everyone makes their chocolate abuelita the same, some just add milk or water. But your grandma? She adds a whole lot of other things that make it one hundred times better.

“Alright.” Clay announces, “Let’s get this photoshoot out of the way.”

Maggie raises her eyebrows at her youngest “What’s the rush?”

“Jack wants to keep Y/N tradition of watching movies and playing board games. Apparently she does this with her siblings and parents.”

You blush and throw a glance to Jack, “We’re in your parents home, I have no problem doing things differently. Let’s have Christmas the Harlow’s way.”

Jack shakes his head “You’ll regret that.”

“JACKMAN.” Both his mom and grandmother yell.

You chuckle and take another sip of your hot chocolate.

Clay then whispers in your ear “We sing carols all night long, so let’s do Christmas your way.” He looks at you with a pleading look.

You shake your head, “We compromise.”

“Excellent idea.” Maggie says. “We’ll take the photos, then before each movie we sing our songs.”

Both Clay and Jack glare at you, “That sounds like a great idea.” You stand up and grab Jack’s hand, “Come on, let’s take these pictures.”

You guys spend over two hours taking pictures, only because Jack and Clay kept whining about their spots in each set.

Urban was getting annoyed, simply because he had his girlfriend- your best friend, waiting for him back at his apartment. He wanted out immediately and he kept throwing glances your way to help him out.

“Okay, I think we got plenty of pictures.” You say, “Urban has plans and we’re sort of keeping him from them.”

Maggie gasps, “Oh my, I’m sorry son, why didn’t you bring her with you?”

Maggie raises her eyebrows, “You think I don’t know all about you and miss trouble maker? Y/N’s best friend?”

Urban scratches his neck “I- I didn’t think I could bring her over.”

“URBAN WYATT.” Jack’s grandmother snaps, “How long have we known you? Aht, don’t answer that, you bring over whoever is keeping you company. You are family end of the story.”

You smile and feel a tug to your hand. You look to your left and notice Jack is pointing to the hallway.

You follow him quickly “Jack, we’re not having sex while your family is out there getting ready to sing Christmas songs.”

Jack chuckles, “That’s later tonight baby.” He wraps his hands around your waist and pulls you in close, giving you a few pecks.

You look up at him, feel him getting hot and fidgeting. “What’s going on?”

“I have a surprise for you, but I don’t know how you’ll react.”

You furrow your eyebrows, “Okay?”

“This is our first Christmas together.” He starts.

“Yeah?”

He takes a deep breath, “I love you, there’s no denying that.”

You smile, “I love you too.”

“But-“

You cut him off immediately “But? But what?What’s going on right now?” You push back and lean against the wall.

Jack goes wide eyed “Babe no.” He goes up to you. “This isn’t a breakup speech.”

“Can you just tell me then?”

“You told me you always spent Christmas with your family, even with your busy schedule, you would make time to go be with them.” He says.

You nod, letting him continue “So if this relationship is going to work, we both have to put one hundred. I don’t like the fifty-fifty, it’s all in or nothing. So, I called your brothers and they immediately said yes.”

You start getting emotional, “Y-yes to what?”

He smiles “We’re spending Christmas Eve here, and tomorrow morning we’re going to your family. I know for you it’s traditional to celebrate on the 24th but since we’re here, I couldn’t change it last minute.”

“Babe.” You whisper and shake your head. “What about your family?”

“They understand and it was actually moms idea. I couldn’t keep you away from your siblings. I know how much they mean to you.”

You jump on him immediately and start peppering him with kisses. “Wait.”

“What?” He laughs.

“You’re going to spend Christmas with my family?”

He nods. “Yeah.”

“We’re going to them?”

He chuckles “Yes.”

“Sooo, you’re going to Mexico with me to be with my family-my entire family?”

“Uhh, yes?”

You chuckle “Oh they are going to eat you alive gringo.”

“Wait what? I’ve met your dad and brothers.” He asks, confused.

You nod, “Yeah but all my tíos and cousins will be there. You’re meeting the entire family.”

“N-nooo, your brothers didn’t mention any of that.”

You smile, “Baby, we’re Mexican, there’s a tío and cousin in each corner. Plus, the 25th is usually a recalentado and drinking, so my entire family will definitely be there. This is why I make sure I’m there on the 24th, only spend it with my parents and siblings.”

Jack nods, takes a deep breath “I can handle that.”

“Are you sure? We can back out.”

He shakes his head “We’re going, plus, I need to meet all of your family if I plan on marrying you one day.”

“I- you can’t say things like that and not mean it.” You glare at him and start walking back to the living room.

“I do mean it.” He stops you at the entrance of the hallway, “I promise you, I’m going to make you my wife one day and then we’ll have mini versions of us running around the house wanting to bake cookies and cakes because you make the best desserts ever.”

You let the tears flow, “I’m going to hold you to that.”

“It’s a promise, now look up.” He says, and you notice the mistletoe hanging there. “Give your future husband and baby daddy a kiss.”

You chuckle and do just that.

It wasn’t an easy road, but Jack definitely kept his promise and you were the happiest person on planet earth.

You characterize everyone really great! Except Touya don't you think you write him a little too expressive? it just doesn't seem very fitting.

I'm not sure if I should say thank you or...

So, I'm not going to do what I did with Hawks and write you a whole book ( i lied ) on why I write Toya the way I do. However, I'll give a little piece:

Dabi was a mysterious, sarcastic jackass. Dabi was a cover. A persona. He didn't exist. He was built to mask intentions until Toya got where he needed and wanted to be. It's very simple.

Toya, on the other hand, in case no one's noticed is very emotional, very expressive and talks waaay too fucking much. I mean, we spent like 7 pages with him monologuing. He's not.. some emotionless, dead inside jerk and I also refuse to write him as some overly sexualized nympho - it's kind of tiring seeing all these characters reduced to nothing but sex and bad clichés. I mean - he's a super traumatized, unstable dude with a mental issue here and there, who actually enjoyed hurting people, but he's not a sociopath. However, he's also not in denial about a single thing. He knows what he went through, he knows what he's doing, he knows he's a little unhinged.

However - you're talking about a kid who basically just wanted attention and approval, who wanted his dad to be proud of him. Lmao, I hate to break it to you anon, but half the people I know, including myself, are very familiar with this kind of situation and the trauma of it. ( if you feel the need to come at me for the burning alive part, you can take your smart-ass right to the block button and not waste my time. )

I really, really hate that I have to keep repeating myself about these characters actually having depth and being more complex than you give them credit for.

Do you even understand what its like to be a deeply traumatized person, who sought those things and ended up so fucking disappointed that you became someone else? That you stopped trusting, stopped loving - you just kinda broke? The scenarios and reactions I've written for him with a partner convey someone who finally found someone else that isn't pushing him away, isn't screaming at it and is accepting how he wants to deal with things. And I've also made it clear in my writings of him that it confuses the shit out if him and he doesn't just accept that someone loves him and is proud of him... because how the hell is he supposed to know how to react to something he's never had? I didn't just.. make him into a character that changed over night and is good and happy, etc etc. No. Because I know better and I'm not going to shit on a character with complexities stemming from trauma and mental disorders.

As someone with a handful of mental problems, trauma out of the ass, that relates to this character on a pretty scary level - I refuse to write him on the surface of what Dabi was supposed to portray. I will continue to write Toya the way I always have and if you don't like it, that's perfectly fine. I'm not asking you to like it or change your OPINION, because that's what it is, but you will not come onto my page and tell me it's wrong. Lmfao.

I'm sorry that you want some shitty, second hand surface level Dabi writing that I refuse to give. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hopefully you find another writer who will do that for you.

I'm not shitting on people that write him that way, not everyone spends 179395 hours in a fixation obsession over a character; I do. Write how you want. Write how it makes you happy. But don't go to people and talk to them like this.)

question! im considering doing dividers as gifts for my friends and I was wondering if you had any tips? is it a better idea to hand draw the designs to avoid any potential copyright issues or is using free to distribute clip resources okay?

Okay, so this is going to be a little long winded and maybe stuff you might know about the process, but I hope it’ll be helpful as a guide for others too maybe? Tips under the cut otherwise everyone’s gonna have to scroll through it.

1. Personally, I LOVE Canva because it has a library of pre-uploaded elements and its super easy to use. Like if I search stars hundreds of individual elements come up as results.

(I know some people also use Visme, which I don’t have any real experience with, but it’s an alternative with good reviews.)

As long as you are not claiming each individual element is your own creation, you’re in the clear. People making graphics like these almost always use premade elements and combine or edit them into a unique piece. That being said, if you claim that an individual element is your own, you’ll probably be called out. I don’t know how familiar you are with the community so forgive me if I sound condescending: the graphics/digital art community is a wild place when it comes to plagiarism but it’s good that artists look out for each other.

Anyway. Creators that upload designs/elements/templates to Canva are aware that they can be changed/edited. If you have Canva pro (which I recommend because you can do transparent PNGs so easily) some elements are only available via pro subscription and you’re compensating the creator for the use of the element and however you change it.

Basically, the divider/graphic is yours, but the individual elements are theirs. You don’t need to give credit because it’s like using stamps or stickers. For example: You wouldn’t typically use Lisa frank stickers on a coloring page and then credit Lisa frank in the corner of the paper. ⚠️I strongly urge you to stay away from AI art. Generators steal from artists to create what the user searches for!⚠️

2. Hand drawing can get a little tricky. You have to be careful with your dimensions and even file size sometimes. In my personal experience, if you’re new to this type of graphic art you should wait until you’re comfortable with it. It can get confusing. I’ve had MANY graphics come out a blurry, frustrating mess and I’m by no means the best divider maker/graphic artist on the planet.

An extra example: my Cute Coquette set vs my Dark Siren set. Technically, there’s nothing wrong with the coquette ones, but they look fuzzy/blurry. I made them when I was first starting out and I struggled with how to line up the right dimensions. I keep them up because as much as I don’t like how blurry they are, it shows my progress and I’m rather fond of them. It’s not even close to what I do now, like the Dark Sirens, which even zoomed out have a lot of detail but are clear and defined. 🤷🏻‍♀️

3. To avoid said blurring, I recommend using these canvas sizes:

Banners and headers: 1055px x 500px, I’ve also done 3000px x 500px.

Standard Size Dividers: 3000px x 240px

Thicker/Thinner Dividers: Basically you can go as thin or thick as you want as long as that first number is 3000px. I added a screenshot of ones I’ve used recently that might help.

I think if you’re using software like procreate, the canvas sizes are the same but you’ll have to go through some extra steps if you want to get it into canva or whatever graphic editing software you’re using.

4. Lastly and most importantly, just have fun. Play around with the settings and figure out what works best for you!! You of course can DM me with more questions, but I hope this at least helped a little bit.

Behind the Seams: Part IV

Welcome to the second instalment of Behind the Seams! For those new to the series, this is a behind-the-scenes deep dive that I post in between chapters for those who are interested in taking a peek at my writing process (mainly because I update so slowly lol). There are spoilers for Edgestitch below the cut, so if you're not caught up, I suggest you come back when you are!

Current status: 3.6k unfinished rough draft

Initial thoughts: The last chapter laid down a few anchor points that I hope will carry the story forward for the next 2 to 3 parts. I still don't have an overarching plan for this series, and there is no 'plot' to speak of other than the unfolding of the relationship between Joel and Pin, and I'm good with that!

After the excitement of the last chapter, it took me a while to get back into the Seams mindset. While we resolved a tiny bit of the sexual tension last chapter, there is still a lot to unpack between these two. The camera is zooming in for this chapter, where we throw Joel and Pin together again, but in a less accident-prone manner as they take things into their own hands rather than leave it up to chance.

The challenge: One word - intimacy. On both their parts.

As Pin alluded to in the last chapter, it's been a long time anyone has even kissed her, let alone anything else. There will be some action in this chapter - I haven't decided to which degree yet - but I want to do it in a way that is sensitive to her history (even though I will leave it vague).

As for Joel, it's also one word - Tess. My Google doc right now cuts off at the beginning of the intimate scene, because I haven't figured out what he's thinking just yet in relation to her. As much as he's falling for Pin, I imagine he might be confused, guilty, probably in denial about his grief. I don't want Seams to get too heavy, and I might not be exploring these themes in Part IV just yet, but these are themes that I'm looking to explore in some way in the series.

Ellie: I was so bowled over by everyone's reaction to Ellie in the last chapter! That really gave me such a confidence boost, and I'm so happy to say that our favourite gremlin is making more of a cameo this chapter. She's great comedic relief while bringing out the dad side of Joel that I just love dipping into.

Joel: Many of you have brought up you're enjoying Joel's thoughts about Jackson and Sarah, and you don't understand how much it means to me. Getting into Joel's head has been one of my favourite things about this series, especially with him trying to figure out how to exist in this place after 20 years of just surviving. Ellie allowing himself to get back in touch with his dad side is another angle that I love delving into. The instincts have never left him, and I'm having so much fun bringing out that side of him.

Something fun: As I teased right here, the white undervest will make a return, and yes, Joel will be sweaty AF in it - I wonder why 🤷🏻‍♀️

He's gentle, he's patient and a strong shoulder to lean on. Of course, he is on your side, always having your back. Softly talking to you, caressing your cheek with his knuckles.

"It's okay sweetheart, I got you"

Pulling you close and holding you softly, waiting for you to slowly calm down in his warm embrace, Hunter has all the time in the world for you, especially when you feel down like this.

"Things will be alright, somehow. We'll find a way to solve this problem for the better"

He has a talent to make you believe everything, to make you feel better.

Echo

He's softly cleaning your tear-stained face with a tissue.

"Oh I see", he says softly, "There is more where that came from", and dabs away a few more new tears, rolling over your face.

Echo takes his time to be soft with you, cuddle and hug you, reassure you that things will be okay.

"Take a deep breath, my love"

He calms you down with soft words in his deep voice and holds you tight. Echo has probably cooked you a hearty soup. He's a damn good cook, and enjoying his divine cooking is a pick-me-up in itself.

Wrecker

Softly stroking soothing circles on your back, he is holding you in his strong arms.

"My sweet love", he coos, "You're gonna be fine. I'm right here for ya"

Wrecker is such a big, strong guy, but his sweet and loving heart is super soft for you. He will hold you for hours, talk to you, listen to every worry of yours.

He will never lose patience, never be annoyed. Wrecker is there for you, taking you seriously, trying his absolute best to tend to all your concerns and needs.

He will probably try to cheer you up with little jokes after a while or tickling you.

Tech

Of course, he's trying to analyze the situation, to find a logical approach. But, before that, he tends to your comfort. Tech is empathetic, not just logical.

Softly holding you, he systematically massages certain pressure points to ease your overall tension. And damn he is good at that! You'll soon be wax in his hands. Tech's long, dexterous fingers are downright magical.

Hanging in his arms, softly sighing, hoping his massages will never end, you hear him say, "Now love, let's think this through and find a way to approach your problem and fix this"

Crosshair

He's looking at you critically. Well, when is he not looking somber or critically? That look is not about you, but about the situation you're in. Crosshair hates to see you like this, it makes him feel down, too.

"Fuck them", he growls.

Your brows furrowed critically, you shoot him a look and say, "It's not that simple"

Crosshair sighs and rolls his eyes but pulls you close into a hug.

"Okay. Tell me what you need"

Be open about it, tell him what he can do to make you feel better, he will provide everything he can, hugs, cuddles, kisses, sweet words, you name it.

Rex

He's running you a bath. Hot water, some nice scent and a massage to lose the tension and help you take a breather.

"Take a deep breath, sit back and try to relax for a moment. Clear your head", he says softly, washing you with a soft sponge.

Rex is taking his time to comfort and spoil you, hoping to give your mind some ease.

"We'll find a solution, you'll see, my love"

Let yourself fall, it's okay, he's got you in every way you need him to. May it be reassuring words, a soft touch, snuggling up with him or get things off your chest, Rex is there to help. He wants nothing more than to make you feel better.

Wolffe

He is listening to you, holding you softly, leaned back on your bed. Wolffe listens closely, while leaving a soft kiss on your skin now and then, caressing you to sooth you.

"I understand why that's bothering you", he says gently, "Would bother me too"

Snuggled to his side, held in his strong arms, you slowly calm down.

"We'll find a way to solve this problem. Maybe you should try and get some sleep and tomorrow we'll talk through some ideas of how to fix this", he proposes.

"I don't know if I can sleep"

Kissing your temple, he says, "Would it help if we stayed snuggled up?"

"It might"

With a soft smile, he pulls you a little closer, pulling the blanket over both of you.

Okay so I have this fantasy au that lives rent free in my head but I really don’t think I’ll ever actually write it. Today on my run however, I was listening to music and dialogue just popped into my head for it and wouldn’t leave. Ended up pulling out my phone to write it down so uh here it is.

Again, don’t think anything is gonna become of this (I am not at all confident in myself to write a fantasy world with magic and fighting) but it could inspire someone 🤷🏻‍♀️

Merlin "Rewatch" w/ Mom -- 5x10

("Rewatch" here meaning "Mostly first time watch, but with the knowledge of what happens.)

First of all: WHAT THE HECK WAS UP WITH THAT HORRIFIC FACE DISFIGUREMENT THING AT THE END?? I've never seen ANYONE discuss how messed up that is, and they SHOULD. I know this aired in the same time slot as Doctor Who, but Mom and I were NOT prepared.

Second of all: Uggghhhh

We're coming into the final three episodes.

Mom doesn't want to know what's coming, but knows it won't end well. She suspects Arthur's going to die (but we all know it's the execution that's the real kicker).

I will say, I was surprised Season 5 has actually had a lot of nice moments I never knew. It's a little moodier than I'd like, and Merlin as a character makes me sad, but there's still some nice comedy and character moments. Like Arthur saving that woman from being burned at the stake, that was so good! (Maybe it's easier for me to appreciate certain scenes knowing what's going to happen? I'm not as tense?)

(It also helps I sat out The Disir and The Dark Tower since I was walking the dog. I don't know I could have bore either without spoiling the finale out of pure frustration)

Mom's been just absorbing it all. She's had a lot of questions, like:

Mom: Why did Aithusa join Morgana? Me: We don't know. They never told us. 😒

Mom: (after The Dark Tower) How did Gwen turn evil? Me: Magic. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Mom: Oh, for gods sake! 🤦‍♀️

Mom: When do they find out about that bracelet Morgana gave Gwen to make her love Lancelot? Me: They don't. 😤 Mom: ...Are you kidding??

The deaths have been a little tougher this season, especially Elyan's. She liked the Dolma, but rolled her eyes a bit at Merlin trying to "act like a woman" instead of just getting on with curing Gwen. And she was NOT happy with Uther's ghost (who was??) or Gaius telling on Merlin and endangering Finna.

But god... watching Merlin's struggles, I just keep thinking, what was the point of it all?

There's so much back and forth the whole season, the whole series really, about destiny and duty and following your heart, and I just... what's the moral here? Follow destiny and get screwed? Follow your heart and still get screwed? It's good to know prophecies and Merlin just didn't know how to handle it? It's bad to know prophecies because you cause them to happen? If that was the case, why did Finna die to pass that last prophecy on? Also, you deserve to die, even when you haven't done anything wrong, because a prophecy says you will? You have choice? You never had one? Some will say the point is "the friends we made along the way", or there doesn't need to be a moral, but there's just no consistency, except whatever keeps the drama going.

It doesn't help that, except for the Camlann prophecy, we never actually hear any of the other prophecies everyone talks about. So we never know for sure if the problem was a misinterpretation of the prophecies in terms of what the Golden Age looked like, or if Merlin failed because of his choices, or if he was ALWAYS going to fail no matter what he did, or if he even failed at all! Because the dragon tells him he didn't in the end, but it doesn't make much sense.

Did the writers even know? They have admitted in interviews they were working nonstop on the show for five years, at grueling pace, so I forgive them for being fuzzy, but it seems like the show's moral code and prophecy lore really depended on who was writing the episode that week.

What I've always loved about Harry Potter is that while prophecies exist, the power of choice is emphasized. Prophecies can be, and often are, misinterpreted. Not every prophecy in the Department of Mysteries was ever fulfilled, so destiny is not the be-all end-all. It's made very clear that it's whether you act on prophecies or not that matters. The characters' beliefs and convictions still matter. It's consistent, it's clean, and it leaves the characters' agency.

In Merlin... you can interpret it a million different ways and still be wrong. And maybe part of the issue is that while Harry agrees to be the Chosen One since he already wanted Voldemort dead, Merlin's heart and destiny are so often divided. And that's what makes it so darn frustrating. And why I believe they gave Merlin too much of a burden for one person. No "almost" about it.
