Well, it looks like I've caved and started with the Korean TLs of the i7 story from 6.10. It's (pretty) slow progress, but I'm managing more or less okay. The question I have to the fandom is....while I'm not confident enough in Korean (like at all) to give direct TLs from that, nor do I want to since the translator has password protected their TLs (and I don't feel comfortable doing translations from a translation, anyway), I wouldn't mind giving summaries of each section after I finish it if people want it

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"

just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible

#due to the Great Data Decay academics write viciously argumentative articles on which episodes aired in what order #at conferences professors have known to engage in physically violent altercations whilst debating the air date number of household viewers #90% of the couch gags have been lost and there is a billion dollar trade in counterfeit “lost copies”#serious note: i'll be honest i always assumed it was english imperialism that made shakespeare so inescapable in the 19th/20th cent #like his writing should have become obscure at the same level of his contemporaries #but british imperialists needed an ENGLISH LANGUAGE (and BRITISH) writer to venerate #and shakespeare wrote so many damn things that there was a humongous body of work just sitting there waiting to be culturally exploited...#i know it didn't happen like this but i imagine a English Parliament House Committee Member For The Education Of The Masses or something #cartoonishly stumbling over a dusty cobwebbed crate labelled the Complete Works of Shakespeare #and going 'Eureka! this shall make excellent propoganda for fabricating a national identity in a time of great social unrest.#it will be a cornerstone of our elitist educational institutions for centuries to come! long live our decaying empire!'#'what good fortune that this used to be accessible and entertaining to mainstream illiterate audience members...#..but now we can strip that away and make it a difficult & alienating foundation of a Classical Education! just like the latin language :)'#anyway maybe there's no such thing as the 'greatest writer of x language' in ANY language?#maybe there are just different styles and yes levels of expertise and skill but also a high degree of subjectivity #and variance in the way that we as individuals and members of different cultures/time periods experience any work of media #and that's okay! and should be acknowledged!!! and allow us to give ourselves permission to broaden our horizons #and explore the stories of marginalized/underappreciated creators #instead of worshiping the List of Top 10 Best (aka Most Famous) Whatevers Of All Time/A Certain Time Period #anyways things are famous for a reason and that reason has little to do with innate “value”#and much more to do with how it plays into the interests of powerful institutions motivated to influence our shared cultural narratives #so i'm not saying 'stop teaching shakespeare'. but like...maybe classrooms should stop using it as busy work that (by accident or designs)#happens to alienate a large number of students who could otherwise be engaging critically with works that feel more relevant to their world #(by merit of not being 4 centuries old or lacking necessary historical context or requiring untaught translation skills)#and yeah...MAYBE our educational institutions could spend less time/money on shakespeare critical analysis and more on...#...any of thousands of underfunded areas of literary research i literally (pun!) don't know where to begin #oh and p.s. the modern publishing world is in shambles and it would be neat if schoolwork could include modern works?#beautiful complicated socially relevant works of literature are published every year. it's not just the 'classics' that have value #and actually modern publications are probably an easier way for students to learn the basics. since lesson plans don't have to include the #important historical/cultural context many teens need for 20+ year old media (which is older than their entire lived experience fyi)

Tim got back at him by sending Kory and Babs some of his old stash of Robin photos

Steph tried to escape it, but she and Cass got trapped at the same time by Alfred's cookies, and that day, Tim took notes

By the time Jon first stayed with Damian for a sleepover, Damian knew about the 'tradition' already and he was determined to prove himself over it

He failed when all of his sibblings joined forces, from Dick's retale of when he was his Batman, to Todd's old stories from their time training in the league and somehow Drake had gotten pictures of him when he was younger (Talia gladly contributed)

Was it too late for his father to un-adopt them all?

Good news, Clockwork and Danny is already been informed and been trying to find ways to help him out to settle in this universe and found a way to get him out of here.

Bad news, it might take long- and he has to settl-settle... Here in this universe which it's spirit barely acknowledging him as a anomaly, and there's heros here...and some of them..just has problems which is relatable but...Dan is In form of a teenager...well like the empty clone Vlad made when he had been adopted by him..

anyone interested in talking about the iconic 2000's middle-grade-bordering-on-ya book series gallagher girls??

#okay incoming rant about this series #i read the first book when i was 10 or 11 and i was absolutely obssessed with it. i read it so many times i had the entire story memorized #the issue was that i could not find the rest of the series anywhere. it was either sold out or out of stock #and then i found out that only the first 3 books had been translated into my first language so at that point i kinda gave up on them #anyway #flashforward to a couple of weeks ago #i was re organizing my bookshelf and on the back i found LYKY (is this how y'all are abreviating it??)#and remembred how much i loved it #and since i'm now fluent in english and was stuck at home recovering from a surgery i decided to download the entire series and read it #to find out what the fuck happened afterwards #long story short i read all six books in 4 or 5 days #and i haven't stopped thinking about them since #it's actually so funny how little information we have in the first book #i went all of these years thinking it was mostly a silly series about a boarding school for spies when actually SO MUCH happens afterwards #i can't believe i went all of these years unaware of zach goode's existence #truly character of all time #but also i can't stop thinking about how interesting it would have been if zach had come to hate the circle and his mom during the series #rather than before #make it a true enemies to lovers #and have us witness that portion of his character developement in real time instead of being told about it #like him slowly realizing through cammie and his time at gallagher that maybe what they were doing is wrong #i think it would have been very interesting to read #although let's be real it took me until halfway through book four to trust him and he was fully one of the good guys so..#but yeah i have a lot more to say but these tags are long enough #gallagher girls #okay i just want to add another funny anecdote about my experience with this series #my copy of LYKY has an age warning in the back recomending that readers should be above 13 yo to read it #and i distinctly remember finishing it and thinking the warning was kind of dumb bcs besides a few mentions of death and other heavier topi #nothing really happened #and now i realize it was a warning for the rest of the series not just the first book because jesus fucking chirst everything after

We're all familiar with how most of the Star Trek shows have their dialogue in that somewhat formal stilted manner that plenty of people have poked fun at but also it kind of makes sense in an era of universal translators that people would make a habit of speaking clearly and avoiding slang/metaphors to ensure their points are well translated. I know that was never the intention (and a lot of newer trek shows go for more informal dialogue) but hm. Food for thought.

#like in my (brief) time of giving lectures and formal presentations i would default on clear formal speech to be the most clear #especially for people who have english as a second language #like its very possible that the years of using universal translators for everything just affected peoples' speech processes #(they should still be allowed to swear though)#i have way too many thoughts on the concept of a universal translator and how it functionally works #star trek writers accidentally canonized chompskyist universal grammar. thousands of linguists outraged.#tbh i prefer dw's universal translator better because somehow telepathy is a little more believable than magical mechanical translation #for languages youre just encountering #but its star trek's rules of magic so it gets a pass #star trek #headcanons #my posts

I want to be an artistic generalist but it’s so unrealistic for me rn!!

#by that I mean like. practicing art + piano + writing + reading books #& practicing languages !! speaking French & Arabic calligraphy #all my time is consumed by full time studying & clinic & research rn #which is completely fine bc science is equally important to me & I don’t think I’d feel whole without it #but it feels like my other half is a little dormant rn #which I’ve already accepted. the next few months will be intense w prepping for one of the biggest tests of my life #but once that’s out of the way I will be UNSTOPPABLE #so many hobbies I want to take up. and hobbies I wanna resume bc a couple of these I was doing already but just don’t have the time lately #daydreaming ab it will sustain me in the meantime I suppose #or I can try to make it work somehow but rn my focus is all the new shit that’s coming up #one step at a time or I will lose my mind #p

the funniest thing that always happens to me is that every time we have a customer who doesn't speak polish and they ask me if i speak english i'm like "no, i don't think i do" only to realize a few minutes later that i do, in fact, speak english

#maybe it's because i'm just always super anxious about my skills #or maybe it's the fact that it barely happens so i don't have many opportunities to talk to people in english #so when somebody asks me about it i'm always like “um i do speak english but just a little”#and yet here i am running a fucking blog where i write a lot of shitposts every single day #all of them in english #it's so funny to me cause obviously no one knows this #and i had a customer today and he bought diamond earrings for his girlfriend and our entire conversation was in english #and he even complimented me at the end which was very nice #and my manager was like “oh you speak english? i only understood him when he said bye bye” LMAO #YES LOOKS LIKE I DO SPEAK ENGLISH AFTER ALL #jdsfjewhif i'm sorry i never really talk about this but today i feel like i want to #like every single time i have a conversation in english i'm so fucking proud of myself for being brave enough to speak another language #in front of a stranger #i know i make a lot of mistakes but still #i'm always so fucking proud of myself. for no reason. i just am #anyway the guy was really nice and i guess it's safe to say he made my day #which doesn't happen very often i usually hate my customers #so yeah #i say whatever and whatever that i want*

Discovered that there are regular flights between Germany and Mongolia so decided to give Mongolian another try. I was pleasantly shocked to discover that there are now more and better learning resources available.

My main mistake was relying solely on english teaching material, I completely forgot that I know other languages e.g. Chinese and the resources found on Baidu look promising.

I might make a post with the resources and material at some point, but for now I need to sort out what's useful and what's not suitable yet.

Who knows, perhaps a summer exploring Mongolia isn't such a distant ethereal dream after all.

i think spearmaster and srs’ relationship is a lot more interesting than people usually make it in fan material… srs was apparently originally ‘repulsed’ (quite literally the word used) by spearmaster, but by the time it’s campaign rolls around, has become so attached they actively worry for it to nsh, being unable to imagine what would happen if it were seriously harmed… test tube baby emotions
