Am I the only person who hates telling other people about my sexuality irl? I'm proud of being aroace and all, it just gets tiring to explain it every single fucking time.

I mean, I can just say I'm not straight or I'm queer, but then people immediately default to thinking I'm gay if I say that.

It usually goes like this:

Stranger: "Are you straight?"

Me: "Oh, no."

Stranger: "Oh, so you're gay."

Me: "...Nope. Try again."

Stranger: "Bisexual?"

Me: "Nope!"

Stranger: "Can you give me a hint?"

Me: *long sigh* "I can, but I don't think you'll like the answer"

Now cue the explaining it for ten minutes and gods forbid they're aphobic (which, unfortunately, a large percentage of the people I've told are) because that's just a whole other fucking rabbit hole

When I was young my mom told me I wasn't allowed to have any boyfriends, not a single one mostly cause of some religious reason I forgot. I remember little me being like ok, proceeded to have no crushes whatsoever and never found it odd at all that I didn't have any attraction to anyone. Till my friends were shocked when I said I had no crushes at all.

Due to tons of media though, I thought that I would maybe get my first crush at high school since that's what the internet was saying was supposed to happen. I'm almost done high school and turns out I was just always Aroace. I don't necessarily feel like I'm missing out on something. I guess a part of me always knew so it didn't feel wrong when coming to terms with being Aroace.

I'm not out but it's kinda ironic that when I tell my mom now that I don't want to get married or be in a relationship she tells me that I'll get over it or I'll find the "one".

i'm happy you had an easy time figuring out you were aroace! hopefully your mum comes around eventually!

there are definitely aspecs out there who feel the same! the word you're looking for may be sex-repulsed, which means you're uninterested in sexual contexts and situations in regards to yourself.
