For ace asks: Is it possible for an aroace to want to be in a relationship thats more than just “very close friends”? I’m not sure I understand the difference between romance and the kind of bond you have between yourself and someone you consider someone to be more than a “close friend”

If you’re aroace and you want it, there’s your answer! Although labels can help to a certain extent, I think there are times matching our emotions to labels can be confusing. We might not have the language to explain how we feel or what we want.

Relationships are a spectrum and there’s more than just “close friends” and “romantic partner”. We have some labels for things like “queerplatonic relationship” but even then, theres an entire color wheel of relationships out there. Focus on what makes you happy, not trying to define your relationships to a society that wasnt even made to fit us.

My aroace experience is interesting because I DID “meet the right person”. I knew I was ace by then, and wasn’t sure if I was Aro. We were quickly friends, and after a while they asked me out. I had wanted it for a while, but I still panicked as a first reaction. And when we later broke up, I knew for sure that everything that had happened with them was very Aro of me. To this day I know that this was the fabled “right person” and there will never be a partner after them. I am now happily identifying as a nonpartnering aroace. I met “the right person” and it changed nothing. If anything, it made my identity all the more clear to me.

yeah the "right person" argument has never made sense, and it doesn't work like that anyways

honestly something ive noticed is that when queer people make jokes like "im too gay for this" or "ew straight romance" other queer people get it and agree. but when an aro/ace person makes the same kinda jokes about their aro/aceness and allo people, suddenly we're the bad guys
