Guys, I’ve read the Wild Robot
Tumblr media
And let me tell you, if I hadn’t recently taken a Children’s Literature class in college, I would’ve said this was the best middle-grade book I’ve read since elementary/middle school. I almost read this book in one night (I was sleepy 😴) like I couldn’t put it down.
The heart behind this book is astounding and it never shies away from showing complex and difficult concepts. You will fall in love with Roz and her gosling son along with all of the other animal on the island.
If you’ve got younger ones, I highly recommend reading this to them or having a little book club moment with them. However, be prepared for whatever hard questions may come your way (i.e. circle of life and climate issues). You know your child and how much they can handle/understand. If you’re like me and much older, it’s a quick read and a great way to finish off a long day. It’s a part of a trilogy and you bet I’m patiently waiting for my hold on a copy at the library.
If the movie is anything like the book (which, given a rewatch of the trailer, it’s looking like so), we are in for a special treat.

A Knight second chance 10
Jaune: *in a reclining chair* ...
Glynda: *patiently waiting for her student to open up* ...
Jaune: *Sigh* Professor Goodwitch, i honestly don't know what to talk about with you. You can ask my family about my past all you want. I think i'm fine.
Glynda: Someone who is "fine" doesn't almost destroy someone's mind with memories, Jaune.
Jaune: *rolling his eyes, while internally cringing to what he is about to say* She's a simple robot, Miss Goodwitch. I highly doubt she was made with the expectations of getting flooded with memories, feelings and sensation.
Glynda: Jaune, i can see your own disgust at what you just said. *Sigh* You don't see her as a machine. You stayed with her, awake, for two days straight so you could "fix" her. *Shaking her head* People don't act like that for a "simple robot".
Jaune: Tsk, fine. But still, my points stands: She never experienced human sensation, only an approximation. And she never experienced anything bad. The worst she lived through was boredom.
Glynda: *clearing her throat* You told Specialist Schnee that Penny lived through your biggest traumas. Something that shook her so much, she changed her demeanor completely. She lost most of her wanderlust and innocence, from what Specialist Schnee said.
Jaune: Well-
Glynda: *sigh* Jaune, i-
Jaune: *cutting her* Tell me, what is your favorite fairy tale?
Glynda: *surprised* What?
Jaune: *sigh* Mine was the girl who fell through the world. *Chuckle* I loved the characters, the settings, everything... *Looking at the shelves covered in books inside of Glynda's office* It was a nice story.
Glynda: *frown* Was?
Jaune: *scoff* Well, it doesn't tell the truth. *Shaking his head* There is no knight in rusted armor, saving the day on time, there is no cat giving you advice to go on in life and there is no tree that can help you become a better version of yourself.
Glynda: *sigh* Jaune, it's a children's book-
Jaune: ... *Mumbling* And yet, you believe those one...
Glynda: *frown* Excuse me?
Jaune: *sigh* Nothing.
_ Later _
Pyrrha: So, how was your session with professor Goodwitch?
Jaune: *sigh* As good as it will be for the foreseeable future... *Looking around* By the way, where is team RWBY?
Pyrrha: *shrug* Haven't seen them since yesterday-
Team RWBY, entering the cafeteria with nice silk scarf and a confused look upon their face
Nora: *waved at them* Hey, where were you all?
Weiss: *sigh* Blake heard there was a White Fang rally near the industrial district. She thought it was suspicious but... *Look at Blake*
Blake: *Blushing* How was i supposed to know!?
Russel: *from another table* Hey, those are the scarves my girlfriends make!
Ruby: *waving at him* She was super nice too! She said she would come visit you with a new shirt design!
Russel: Thanks for the heads up!
Yang: So anyway, turns out it was a charity event made by EX members of the White Fang, those who were part of it before they turned into a terrorist organization.
Nora: Oh~
Ruby: *giving them scarves* Weiss bought enough for our class... Twice.
Weiss: They are of the highest quality and the price they asked for was ridiculously small!

I’m reading a fanfiction where Agent Stone is unofficially indirectly technically but also definitely adopted by the Wachowski Family and now I cannot unsee it.
For some context, the family is trying to figure out how to get Shadow to come to them without forcing him or making him feel pressured or unwanted, and Agent Stone gets involved.
Maddie invites him to dinner, and what I thought was going to be the best overprotective sons defending their loyal and powerful and loving family banter turned into the crackiest family dinner with an unexpecting, slightly grief ridden and emotionally stunted Agent Stone, desperately trying to wrap his head around the three aliens that have been kicking his ass for who knows how long being in a normal family???
With human parents???
Who like, house them and feed them and love them and teach them and nurture them???
And like, do stuff normal parents do in a normal family???
I’ve never felt so estatic since that one time the author my favorite MHA fantasy AU fanfic that got discontinued posted the endings and notes she had for the rest of the fanfiction.
EXAMPLE WITH DIRECT QUOTE FROM THE CHAPTER:
Tails: “Break started on Saturday. One of us can go with him, Mom! Make sure he stays sitting!”
Stone: “Break?”
Maddie: “Fall break. From school.”
Stone: “They go to school, too?”
Tails, rolling his eyes: “If you’re going to be surprised by every normal thing we do with our family, we’re going to be here all night.”
I read the chapter during my Sociology 100 lecture and had to stop many times to keep from laughing.
Stones astonishment at a normal, stable, healthy, albeit non-traditional family, Sonic being Sonic, Knuckles being Knuckles, Tails continuing to be the national treasure that he is, and Maddie and Tom being the patient, understanding parents that we’ve always seen them be.
You can’t buy joy like this. You can only find it on AO3, from people (mostly children, college students, or working class adults) who either have too much time or no time at all and yet somehow still get to share their genius with the entire world.
Reading this shit felt like getting the found family trope injected into my veins through IVF fluid.
Here’s a DIRECT QUOTE from my favorite part of the newest chapter:
Knuckles: “There will never be a truce, and I will never think of you as anything more than a small, weak man with questionable taste in partners.”
*literally like three fucking minutes later, after Knuckles has been fed a well cooked meal from Agent Stone*
Knuckles: “You are a very important and powerful man, and I apologize for what I said before. Mister Robot did not deserve you!”
Agent Stone, who’s probably sweating in three different places and pinching himself to keep from reacting too harshly, and experiencing the worst whiplash of his life: “Um, thanks?”
To Humanity’s_Humbag and Invader_Sam, who are the authors, I commend and thank you for your service to the Sonic Fandom. May the wicked curses of the Ao3 Fanfiction Author always evade you!

Could you do a platonic, teenager (15-17) ! reader + father figure Aizawa where reader’s mother keeps nagging and making really snarky comments about their self harm scars, and reader goes to Aizawa when they feel like they’re going to relapse for a distraction?
if you do specifics, reader is non-binary with masc terms. Reader also knows Aizawa from him being their teacher, but they knew him from childhood as a family friend. Reader’s dad is unavailable—you can take that however you want.
sorry if this is too gruesome or too detailed, feel free to delete/tweak this if it’s a bad request — thank you for reading!
Platonic Aizawa x Teenage Reader
Aizawa had known you for most of your life. Not that he had been present for most of it. Aizawa had been close to your father as they were both underground Pro Heroes. Your father had taken Aizawa under his wing and basically became his mentor and showed him the ropes. They worked together often and became friends. Your father was super friendly with people and would invite Aizawa over to his house to ensure that he was eating properly and etc. Aizawa met your mother and was over often.
Your mother was kind to Aizawa but you could tell it was strained kindness. One day, your father and Aizawa were going after a drug smuggling operation and it went south. The drug smugglers were operating out of an old chemical processing plant. There were leftover containers and equipment from the plant. Your father ended up comatose in the hospital after an explosion caused by a fire quirk hitting nearby containers filled with chemicals.
After that day, Aizawa rarely came over. Your mother grew very hostile and rude. She consistently ignored you and you grew up trying to please a woman who hated everyone. When you did get your mother’s attention, it was never good. She’d constantly berate you and make snide comments about you. Nothing you ever did was good enough for her. Eventually she pulled the plug on your father and she inherited the money he made. She barely spent a dime on you.
Most of your clothes were old and had been repaired several times over. You got the best grades in your class at school despite the bullying. You were bullied because your clothes and everything were old and worn, you hardly socialized and you had barely any self confidence. In middle school you began to cut. It started out as a means to punish yourself so failing to live up to your mother’s standards. Every time you disappointed her or she chastised you, you cut yourself. Later it became a habit and a means to punish yourself due to your self hatred.
You knew your dad was an underground hero and you wanted to be like him. You wanted to become a hero and make enough money to create a home/facility for children whose parents didn’t want them or whose parents died. You didn’t want other children to have to suffer like you did. You began training for the entrance exam for UA. Your quirk allows you to look into your opponent’s eyes or make sounds that cause hallucinations and vertigo. However it only works on organic beings so the robots in the entry exam were difficult for you to fight.
Despite gaining a few dozen points from helping others and managing to take down a few robots, you didn’t make the cut for the hero course. You ended up in general studies but continued to train on your own. You eventually roped your classmate Shinso into your training routine to help him and have a training partner. When the sports festival came around, you managed to do pretty well. You even managed to make it into the semifinals of the third round. You lost to Todoroki due to his ice.
Shinso was the only person who knew about your cutting and he helped you break the habit. After your fight, he came to check on you to make sure you weren’t going to hurt yourself. After consoling each other, you both returned to the stands. After the festival, you had packed your bag and were about to leave when Aizawa got in your way. The moment he saw you during the entrance exam, he knew who you were. He still felt an immense amount of guilt for not saving your father. After the festival he asked to sit down and talk to you.
During that time, he introduced himself and told you about his past and what kind of person your father was. He told you about how your father helped him and that he felt it was only right for him to help you. You both talked and Aizawa was surprised to find out that your mother had taken your father off of hospice. He wasn’t made aware that your father died. After your talk, you and Shinso began to train with Aizawa and he eventually found out about your self harm scars and your intent to quit. He got you a therapist and you began to work on healing.
After the attack at the summer camp, UA decided to move the students into the dorms. Despite it not being necessary, Aizawa decided to visit your house to ask your mother to let you go to UA. You had been so hopeful about the dorms. This was your chance to finally get out of the toxic environment that was your home. Your mother had become even more toxic and borderline abusive since you enrolled at UA. During the conversation between Aizawa and your mother, you snapped at her after she blamed Aizawa for your father’s death. You yelled at her telling her that it wasn’t his fault. You shouted saying that living with her was miserable and if your father felt even the slightest bit as miserable as you do then he would probably choose death over having to be near her.
Your mother was stunned. But she quickly recovered and told you that you shouldn’t put words in other people’s mouths. Just because you like to hurt yourself and make yourself ugly with scars doesn’t mean anyone else does. You should be grateful she’s put up with you for so long. Hearing that your mother knew you were cutting and never tried to help you broke something in you. You ran out of the room and that was when Aizawa decided that your mother was unfit to care for you and he became your temporary guardian. After you packed what little you had, you left with Aizawa. As he drove, he kept looking back at you in the mirror and saw just how broken that whole situation had left you.
He saw how little you had and decided to drive to the mall to help you get some decorations for your dorm. Despite your constant pleas and reassurances that you were fine, your body language said otherwise. Despite your reluctance to let Aizawa buy you anything, you left the mall with a couple posters, some new clothes, string lights, glow in the dark stars, new stationary, snacks and few other things. When you got to UA, Aizawa helped you bring everything to your dorm and left. After you and Shinso helped set up each other’s dorm rooms, you left to go find Aizawa.
That night, you found Aizawa and gave him a hug. You buried your face in his chest as you tried not to cry. You told him how you don’t blame him for what happened and he shouldn’t either. And that wether or not he likes it, you view him as a father figure. You thanked him profusely for helping you out even if he only did it out of guilt. He changed your life and you’ll always be grateful to him for that. He wrapped his arms around you and told you you were welcome. He let you cry on him until you were done. He walked you back to your dorm and told you that he still wasn’t going to go easy on you during training. You smiled and bid him goodnight before heading inside. Aizawa smiled to himself as he looked up at the night sky, promising his old mentor that he would guide you until you were ready to do things yourself. Just as his mentor did for him, he would do for you and more.

Unlocking Potential: The Transformative Power of Robotic Classes for Kids
In a world increasingly defined by technological innovation, preparing children for the future means equipping them with the skills and knowledge to thrive in an ever-changing landscape. Enter robotic classes for kids, a dynamic educational opportunity that not only introduces children to the fascinating world of robotics but also cultivates critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and creativity from a young age.
Robotic classes for kids offer a hands-on approach to learning, providing children with the opportunity to design, build, and program their own robots. From constructing simple machines to mastering complex coding concepts, these classes empower children to explore the limitless possibilities of technology while honing essential STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills.
One of the key benefits of robotic classes is their ability to foster creativity and innovation. Through experimentation and exploration, children are encouraged to think outside the box, brainstorming unique solutions to challenges and bringing their imaginative ideas to life. Whether it's designing a robot to navigate an obstacle course or perform a specific task, these classes provide a platform for children to unleash their creativity and develop a deep appreciation for the power of innovation.
Moreover, robotic classes promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. As children encounter obstacles and setbacks during the design and programming process, they learn to approach problems analytically, breaking them down into manageable steps and devising strategies to overcome them. This ability to tackle complex problems with confidence and resilience is invaluable, not only in the field of robotics but in all areas of life.
Furthermore, robotic classes emphasize collaboration and teamwork. Many activities are designed to be collaborative, encouraging children to work together, share ideas, and communicate effectively. By collaborating with their peers, children learn the importance of cooperation and develop essential interpersonal skills that will serve them well in school, the workplace, and beyond.
Additionally, robotic classes provide a gateway to future opportunities. In an increasingly digitized world, proficiency in robotics and programming is highly sought after by employers across a variety of industries. By introducing children to these concepts at an early age, robotic classes lay the foundation for future academic and career success, opening doors to exciting opportunities in fields such as engineering, computer science, and technology.
robotic classes for kids offer a transformative educational experience that not only teaches valuable technical skills but also cultivates creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. By empowering children to explore the exciting world of robotics, these classes inspire a lifelong love of learning and equip them with the tools they need to thrive in the future.

pairing: senku x f!reader
chapter 3 of 2/2-i.senku
a/n: I'll be posting requests soon
⁺₊✦₊
Tumblr media
Hanging out with the [H/C] haired girl wasn't actually half-bad; sure, she was annoying, but she had a passion for whatever Senku was reading or working on.
Since she was homeschooled, Senku always came over after school, not even bothering knocking, which Byakuya has tried to get him to at least be polite every time he dropped him off.
[Name] didn't really mind, she had grown used to waiting for the doors to the mansion to burst open after 4. Senku strolled inside like he owned the place before dragging her to the library to finish off where they started. While he was reading, she would be drawing on a piece of paper, and once he was done, she would sit quietly as he yaps along about what he learned.
The [H/C] haired's butler poured the juice into his cup as the girl munched on her cookie, listening to him.
"....anyways, my teacher at school asked us what we wanted to be when we were grown-ups. Obviously, I said I'm going to space." He says seriously. "But I'm going sooner than that." Senku looked proud at this.
"An astronaut?" [Name] says quietly, thinking of Byakuya.
࿐⸻༺ ෆ ༻⸻࿐
With Christmas coming along, [Name] had managed to walk to Senku's house, which was behind her home. With enough begging, her father had managed to help Byakuya move out of the apartment complex he and Senku lived in and into a bigger home.
Her butler had tagged along and when she rang the doorbell, Byakuya answered the door. "Oh, [Name]!!" He says cheerfully. "Senku isn't home yet, I'm guessing he's hanging out with his friend from school."
Taiju met her a couple of days ago after Senku had managed to sneak her into his school after classes were done. The three went to the park where Senku was using a magnifying glass to burn a paper using the sunlight hitting the glass.
Letting the two in, Byakuya lead them to sit down in the living room.
"I didn't see your car outside." She asked him. The man sighs sadly, clearly dejected. "I sold it." He says.
The [H/C] haired and her butler flinch at this. "I used the money to buy things for Senku; ever since he's been reading those books at your house, his interest in Science has grown a lot more."
"...." The girl looks up at him before looking down at the floor ahead of her.
Suddenly, getting up from the couch, "[Name] don't get up so fast-," she tugs on her butler's arm, "I changed my mind, let's go home, I haven't started on any presents." She exclaims.
Saying goodbye to Byakuya, the two left the Ishigami residence in a hurry.
"Grandpa Joel, I haven't started on Senku present." She says the older man who opens the door to her small craft room in her home.
"Also, I want to use my allowance to buy Byakuya a new car."
Grandpa Joel blinks at this, clearly taken aback by this. A 7-year-old wanting to buy a car is crazy. Luckily, her father was away for work so she could let one of the workers buy it using her card without him knowing.
Her butler has been by her side from the moment she turned 2, along with a nanny but she wasn't that close to her as she was with Joel. The old man was a loyal worker of her father for years, and so, he was entrusted with [Name] since then.
For Senku's present, she wanted it to be special since he was her very first friend.
"Grandpa Joel, I want to build a robot for Senku." She says proudly. "I know it's not gonna be perfect like my father's but I want this Christmas to be special." Joel looks down at her, clearly seeing how determined she is, not that he is surprised; she grew up to be very isolated from children her age, born into a wealthy family, setting her apart from those who were born in a lower class.
"....I'll help you, dear." He says, smiling as she beams with the biggest smile on her lips, one he's seen more now ever since Senku came into her life.
Once Christmas came along, [Name] opened the door for the Ishigamis and Taiju. With a warm greeting, she leads them to the living room, a large decorated tree in the corner with so many presents underneath.
After spending time together playing games, Senku watched as the girl started to give out presents to the workers of the mansion. Taiju got his gift soon after, then Byakuya, who she led outside to show him a brand new car of the newest brand.
"Here you go!" She says happily, handing him the keys.
Byakuya's mouth dropped to the floor as the girl hugged him before grabbing Senku and dragging him back inside the house while everyone else was simply frozen with shock.
Gathering his present, the [H/C] haired girl suddenly felt shy; the robot she was supposed to build him wasn't done yet, so she prepared something smaller for him. Fidgeting nervously, she handed him a small box that was wrapped neatly.
"It's not much, but I hope you'll use it for science." She says flustered.
Senku pulled a black card from the box. He read what was on it, and he was surprised. "....this is." He mumbles.
"I get an allowance from my father every month...and since you're my best friend, I want to share it with you." [Name] was flustered at this, the older girl was shaking from being way too nervous to see his reaction.
"Please use it well if it's going to benefit science. There's no limit."

Senku was sitting in his room, thinking hard. The old man had brought him a ton of Science equipment for Christmas but he wanted to create something special for the [H/C] haired girl using it.
"[Name] really loves fireworks, the ones that sparkle on the stick, she told me that they remind her of the stars." He had asked Byakuya for what she would like, and the answer was pretty straightforward. A rich girl like her can get anything, but fireworks were her favorite...
His birthday arrived sooner than he expected. [Name] came over with a cake, and Taiju tagged along as well, holding a box in his hands. He asked about it, but Taiju simply told him that it was heavy for him to carry.
Singing happy birthday to him, Byakuya pushed the girl to his side.
"Just because it says Senku's name on the cake and present doesn't mean we can't sing for [Name] too!" He says Senku looks at her, seeing her flustered.
"So, happy birthday to Senku and [Name]." Joel, Byakuya and Taiju said happily.
That day, he learned that they shared the same birthday. When he asked her about it years down the line, she had simply answered that it was his day, she could've celebrated it a day after to make sure the day was about him.
Sitting down outside, the two were looking up at the stars before Senku was given a tiny box. Opening it, he found a small robot inside that resembled him. "I did my best, although Grandpa Joel helped a lot."
Seeking over to see his reaction, her eyes widened when she saw how in awe he was; his red eyes had the same sparkle every time he spoke about science, but they held something else she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
She felt her cheeks heat up, her heart skipped a bit as she continued to stare at him as he examined the robot that was the size of his hand. Her heart felt like it was going to burst out of her chest the longer she stared at him, and she blushed even more when he looked up at her with a gentle smile.

Okay okay hear me out,
Au of the au where Stan was originally Ford’s childhood cat and then got turned human later, but we extend it towards the rest of the cast.
Fiddleford, Emma-May, were originally a family of possums that got turned into human.
Carla was originally another cat, who got turned human
Dan was originally a bear who got turned human.
However it is a coincidence that they all live with Ford and are all trying to convince eachother that they are human and are infact doing very human things
The biggest thing here is trying to figure out why they all live with Ford. The funniest and hardest issue is that each group is convinced they're the only animals in disguise.
Hmmmmmmm.
Stan's obvious, he's totally 100% Fords long lost twin brother :3.
Carla is Stan's ex girlfriend! Doesn't he remember! They dated as kitt-children! (No, they've never met. Carla panicked, and Stan panicked agreed. Surely if he can convince 2 humans he's good to go?). Anyway she lost her house and could she please move in until she gets her feet under her :) (Ford says yes to grill her, then falls into the web of lies they're both panic pulling and gets even more confused on if they're human or not)
The McGuckets lived under the porch, and now their moving upstairs. As Fords college buds, doesn't he remember! They took classes! (Fiddlford and Emma-May were exposed to some of Fords magic run off and read a bunch of his textbooks as possums so are now very smart humans that have the skills to back up their claims but he's pretty sure he'd remember a guy who climbed furniture and built robots and a woman who hissed at people.
But maybe not)
Dan strolled in, claimed to have built Fords house and that his got smashed, and now he lives here until his new one is done. Ford can't refute him, because he doesn't remember which corduroy did build his house, and he's to embarrassed to admit it.
Ford calls for dinner, then sits in the corner and watches them all interact, because it's obvious that something is up with all of them, but not the same something. It's driving him crazy, and he's not getting any of his work done trying to figure it out.

I've struggled with what to write about Heesu in Class 2.
Opinions have been polarized, and I know that whatever I write isn't going to resonate with at least half of the people that I follow and respect. It helped that I wasn't going into this blind. I knew it wasn't a typical BL. I had read a LOT of commentary in the past couple of weeks.
Many people who wanted the source material didn't get what they wanted/needed. I can understand that. While I typically like it when adaptations twist and build on source material, I have had the experience where I was incredibly disappointed in an adaptation. I Hear the Sunspot -> I'm talking to you. When you hold something near and dear to your heart, it hurts when you don't recognize it anymore. Especially if the adaptation removed the things that you valued and loved.
But I hadn't read the source material on this one so that wasn't a factor for me. I do plan to read it now that I've watched the show. I will probably keep the two as completely different entities in my brain. Based on people's reactions, that feels like the best move forward.
Many people who DIDN'T read the source material also didn't get what they wanted/needed. They might view it as homophobic or disrespectful of serious issues. Or it may never have connected with them emotionally. But my world is VERY homophobic so this felt very real to me. It connected emotionally and it hit HARD...at least in certain scenes.
My feelings are too raw to really discuss the show analytically. I'll talk pacing, visuals, astronomy metaphors and all that once I finish up my astronomy project for work. I'll try to approach it objectively when I write up the analysis of individual episodes. There is a lot to dive into on that score - some positive, some negative, some neutral.
However, right now, in this moment? I can't even think about how I would "rate" this show. I'm too busy having big feels after the finale. Because while it may not have been a "BL" by many people's standards, it was definitely queer. And that counts for something. I'm no high schooler - I turn forty in a little over a week - but it scraped my open wounds and made them bleed. Honestly, episode 11 of Your Sky did that to me too. I just kept my posts private on that one, because this feels like serving myself up for judgment. I might regret this post.
I tried during my two hour walk last night to figure out what I could say. Every take I tried got personal fast. I can't separate it. And in the end, I've decided to not even try.
So is this post meta analysis? No.
Is this post a critique or analytical evaluation of the show? No.
Is this an endorsement of the show? No.
Heck. Half of this post probably isn't about the show at all.
It feels weird to say since many people around me call me a robot or unfeeling, but this post is pure emotion for me. It's probably oversharing. Just like whether a show is popular or not, I don't have a gauge for that. I'm the person that will spend two weeks talking to almost no one outside of my children/husband, but then spend three hours discussing all things garlic with some random person I never met previously. That's Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo's fault. I don't really have an in between mode. I'm silent, or I don't shut up.
Warning: This got long. No surprise there. Also, in case it is a trigger for you, religion and sexuality are intertwined throughout this post and it touches on themes of coming out.
Anonymous Inbox Warning: If you read this post and come into my inbox to worry about my "mental health" or "recommend therapy" or anything similar, I'm just going to delete it. Therapy is great. I'm aware. I highly recommend and advocate for it. That is not the point here.
But after watching Heesu, here are the things stuck in my brain.
I envied Heesu and Seungwon.
Was it hard for them? Yes. Were they struggling due to things that are unfair and that I wish weren't true of society? Yes. Will they continue to struggle? Unfortunately, yes. But they're figuring themselves out and are coming to terms with their identity in high school. There's something to be said for that.
Tumblr media
Thanks to neurodivergence and my conservative, religious upbringing, I didn't figure myself out until I was already married and had my first child. Both in terms of sexuality and my personal religious beliefs, I was in my mid to late 20s before I figured things out.
Because for many, many years I just thought I was evil and morally bankrupt. After all, I really enjoyed Cruel Intentions and I really really thought it would be a whole lot of fun to make out with Watts in the garage (Some Kind of Wonderful). @dribs-and-drabbles I loved that they were one of your ships. But I could never ship it. Keith didn't deserve her. She was mine.
Tumblr media
But this was a problem, because I was taught that sex was the root of all evil. Even heterosexual sex. And to have such perverse desires meant something was morally and drastically wrong with you. Stupid purity culture swamp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I decided that if I tried hard enough and studied enough, that I'd figure out how to fix my broken brain. After all, there were ways to overcome my broken hearing. There were ways to overcome my broken empathy meter. There were ways to overcome my attention issues and the chaos of my brain. Surely, there was a fix for that part of me that really liked thinking about the Olsen twins and Taylor Hanson too.
Tumblr media
I'm fine with being called "stubborn", "argumentative", "weird", "scary" and the dozens of other not quite positive adjectives I hear about myself. I mean this with full sincerity -> it doesn't bother me. I get called plenty of positive things too. And one man's "stubborn", is another person's "independent". But I didn't want to be evil. So I tried. I really did.
It took me a long time to accept that I wasn't actually broken or morally bankrupt. It took me a long time to figure out the problem was as @babyangelsky put it that desire was considered a swamp to begin with. I'm still hoping my person accepts that one day too.
So yes, I'm incredibly happy for Heesu and Seungwon that they figured all of that out in high school. I hope this show, BLs in general and changes in society as a whole help teenagers get there much faster than me. I'm sure a smartphone or internet resources like we have today would've helped.
I felt relieved when Heesu figured out that there was someone in his world who wouldn't judge him.
Even as I deconstructed religiously and embraced my sexuality, I never worried about my (younger) brother's reaction. I always knew he'd be in my corner. He was a musical theater major. He's kissed men as part of his shows (our family doesn't know that), and he had already deconstructed (they also don't know that). He figured things out much faster than me. He listens to me talk about BLs and all of my fun dilemmas with them. We have never directly talked about my (or his) sexuality though. Sex is not something easily discussed in our family. Plus, we're still siblings. I really don't want to think of him in that way.
Tumblr media
But I know he has my back. And that has meant everything over the years.
However, my brother lives 5 hours away. I get to talk to him only a couple of times a month (if that). He's not the people that surround me on the daily. And the people that surround me? They WILL judge. Strike that. They DO judge - everyone and everything. Openly and loudly. I live in a very close knit, very conservative, very religious family and community. It wasn't my intention to stay, but words left unsaid mean I married someone who talks a lot about traveling and seeing the world but never intended to see it.
And nine days out of ten, that's okay. I love our home that he built with his own hands, our hikes through the woods, our gaming sessions, and our "fun" times too 😉. But that tenth day when I take a break from work, stop doing the laundry or packing the kids' lunchboxes and really think about everything? It's rough.
Tumblr media
For a very long time, I kept all of my thoughts on religion and sexuality completely secret while being swallowed alive by my black hole. I tried to convince myself that it didn't matter. But when I found that one person in my daily circle who I realized would accept me? It was a miracle. It changed everything. I eventually found a few. I'm forever grateful for those former coworkers.
Tumblr media
It's insane how much lighter it feels when you remove the load by "just one person", and how much strength you gain when you realize that you are not really alone in your thinking. In funny things (to me), they weren't surprised. "I thought that was a given. It's pretty obvious."
Over the years, the Tumblr community has been another light for me. Even when I was lurking. Just knowing that there were people out there who'd have no problem with my kinky thoughts went a very long way. So that scene for Heesu, when he realized Seungwon wouldn't judge him - I felt it in my bones.
The tennis court scene in the finale with Chan Young/Heesu pains me...for both of them.
And I'm still standing on it.
I can't judge this scene objectively within the narrative. It got too personal so most of what I say about this scene will have very little to do with Heesu/Chan Young's actual relationship. Again, this isn't meta. This is emotion.
I had a strong negative reaction to Chan Young in episode 1. This was followed by a humorous bit of time with @lurkingshan when my brother pointed out that he was a lot like my husband all the way down to him being a competitive tennis player in high school. I didn't expect just HOW far that analogy might go though.
Because just like Heesu, I started by coming clean with my Chan Young. Difference being that my Chan Young is my friend, lover, and other half.
So this line...
Tumblr media
I've heard it. I took YEARS to come completely clean precisely because I knew it was going to hurt him so very deeply. I tried to soften the blow. I tried to lead up to it in small steps. But it didn't help.
Side note: @my-rose-tinted-glasses By our standards for Min Jun from Business as Usual, this might make me the bad guy. It's probably why I am trying so hard to forgive him. I haven't got there with him yet. Ghosting feels different to me. Min Jun essentially left the court.
This line...
Tumblr media
I've heard it too. It was wrapped in language about moral corruption and rebelling against religious rules just because I disagreed with them. But the gist was the same. Choosing myself is being selfish. I've just decided I'm okay with that. That I'm worth being selfish about. If I have to be my own biggest fan, so be it.
But this one...
Tumblr media
It's the reason that I can't analyze this scene objectively (yet). Because it's true. I destroyed my husband's whole world and vision of our life together by my confession. In gaming terms, it was a headshot. In the show, Chan Young now has to reframe everything that he thought was a part of their relationship and decide where to go from here. It's not an easy task.
When I liveblogged Let Free the Curse, I said I wasn't going to touch Juyeong's cross necklace and how he removed it to be with Dohoe. That I couldn't deal with it. This is why. As @respectthepetty pointed out in their Let Free the Curse commentary, that cross is heavy for my Juyeong and it's not a fun place for me. I've put the person I love in a place where they have to choose every single day whether to put on that necklace that they VALUE and BELIEVE in or choose to embrace me, the person they love, who is also the sinner on the road to hell. It's tearing them apart and robbing them of their joy. And while I'm no longer being sucked into my personal black hole, I now get a courtside seat to all of their pain. I created a rift in their universe.
So while many people are understandably upset that Heesu is apologizing in this scene.
Tumblr media
I didn't see it as apologizing for being queer.
I saw it as apologizing for hurting the person they love and care about. For being a source of pain. And yes, there IS a difference.
Because yes, I struggled with my identity for years. But I'm not sorry that I now understand myself, and I'm not going to trap myself in a glass room. I will not apologize for being myself. However, on that 10th day, when everything gets a bit too real for us both, I get to hear the tears at night from my person. And I am really sorry that I'm the cause of them. I really wish I wasn't.
So I'll forgive him if he hits a tennis ball at me from time to time. I'll dodge most of them. The ones that connect WILL hurt. But he's hurting too, and it's going to take time for him to put that racquet down.
We've been on this court for a very long time as he decides what to do about that cross necklace. But it took me a long time to put us on the court in the first place.
I'm really hoping we get here one day.
Tumblr media
For both of our sakes. I really hope we do. But we may not.
For now, I'm just glad that we're both refusing to leave the court on that tenth day. Because the other nine days are still a blast.
I'll try to watch the scene with the actual narrative in mind next time.
It broke my heart when Seungwon's mom asked him what she should do.
It WRECKED me like no other scene if I'm being honest. Even worse than the tennis court scene.
Tumblr media
Why? Because I don't want to hurt my kids. I don't want to end up on my bad mothers list. I'm trying to figure it all out, but it's tricky. I had a similar conversation to this one with my two older children just a few weeks ago. Unlike the tennis court, this is relatively new territory for me. They're just now getting old enough to understand. For context, I'm not really "out" by most people's standards within the larger community. I'd like my Chan Young to stop hitting balls at me before I move forward in that regard. I'd really like to have him by my side if I take on our community and the rest of our families. So for now I wait as he ponders what he's supposed to do.
But I haven't kept my thoughts on things or my reality from my kids in the meantime. They know my beliefs and where I stand. They are even aware that I blog and watch BL. They laughed at me quite a bit during the emoji tag game as I tried to figure out the coffin in @dramalove247 's set. They thought it meant vampire by the way.
Six days out of seven, it doesn't really impact them much at all. But on that seventh day, they're getting very mixed messages from the adults in their life. The one that says all the things we grew up with. And the one (me) that constantly says choose kindness, choose people, choose yourself, screw purity, screw normal, screw the rules.
The mixed messages will impact them. It does confuse them. And as much as I'd like to, I can't shelter them from that without lying about who I am and what I believe. But I also can't protect them from all of the ugliness in the world.
Tumblr media
So when my braveheart that always speaks his mind asked a few weeks ago if I ever thought about just telling everyone. I responded very similarly to Seungwon's mom here. "I can do that. Do you really want me to? Just think about what would happen." It took him all of about 15 seconds. "It would be bad. Real bad. Yeah, don't do that."
Tumblr media
So I'll stay silent and evade...for now. I'll stop when their answer changes or if, like Seungwon, they or another kid in the community needs me to flip the table for them so they can proudly embrace their own identity. Their needs are my priority when it comes to the larger community.
In the meantime, I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure they feel loved and supported for who they are. We watched Star Trek during our family movie night the other month, and when we got to this scene...
Tumblr media
my oldest laughed. "Mom. That sounds like something you would say."
That feels like a win in my book.
And if Heesu in Class 2 makes even one queer kid have hope that they'll be accepted or gives them the courage to step into the light in a world that's not a BL bubble, then that's a win in my book too.
No matter where I end up rating it once I can approach it more objectively.

Tumblr media
excerpts from a daily mail article released shortly after her arrest
Tumblr media
When members of the Geneva High School role playing club asked 16-year-old Lindsay Souvannarath to choose a character they were expecting an elf, a sorceress or perhaps a female warrior.
But the shy, clean-cut teenager opted for a rather more unsettling choice, presenting them with a detailed pencil drawing of her chosen persona - the 'Nightmare Nazi'.
The trench coat, jackboots and gas mask were unmistakably those of an SS soldier; the skeletal hands clutching a vast dagger more akin to dark fantasy art.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Former classmates at Geneva High recall Lindsay Souvannarath as a shy, withdrawn youngster, who had few friends and instead sought out after-school groups and writing clubs to express her creative side.
But she was also prone to bouts of anger and violence - allegedly stabbing another student with a pencil in one outburst and occasionally letting slip an alarming infatuation with the Third Reich.
Tumblr media
'On first impressions I didn't think there was anything too strange about her,' he told Daily Mail Online.
'She could be funny and intelligent but most of the time she was quiet and not very warm or outgoing.
'One year her character was a sort of Wonder Woman-type heroine, then all of sudden she tells the group she wants to be a Nazi ghost.
'You choose your species and come up with a back story. Hers was that her character was a guest from a crazy, dark Nazi universe.
'It's supposed to be a game in a medieval, fantasy setting but she would just argue if she didn't get her way.
'So we went on our quest with a robot, a couple of elves, wizards and this weird Nazi.
'Aside from the character's background he didn't do anything racist or too alarming. We didn't know about her interests at that time so we just got on with it.
Tumblr media
Ms Szigeti recalled how Souvannarath began to idolize black-death metal bands in her mid-teens.
She became particularly infatuated with Varg Vikernes, a white supremacist musician convicted in 1994 of killing a rival guitarist and burning down three churches in Norway, describing him as 'cute' and writing essays about him.
Tumblr media
'Her work was always dark and full of violence, there were soldiers and Nazis and all this weird stuff,' Sabrina said.
'She acted normal on the surface. She was never physically violent but she would get aggressive and upset if you criticized her.
Tumblr media
'Everyone was uncomfortable but we just avoided trying to start a fight with her. 'If you asked her straight up 'are you a Nazi?' she would argue that she wasn't.
Tumblr media
As far back as 2007 - when she was just 15 - she allegedly wrote 'free speech is dead' in one forum, adding: 'That's why we need people like David Duke to bring it to life again.'
In another warped entry, writing that same year under the pseudonym Snoopyfemme she wrote: 'They use sex in commercials all the time to sell products. Why don't they ever use violence?
'Wouldn't you love to see a bunch of guys tearing each other apart with machine guns to get a bowl of Cheerios?
'Sure, it might traumatize our children, but in my opinion, children aren't being traumatized enough.
'The only reason for Americans to breed is to create more soldiers to fight for freedom. We need to weed out the weaklings early on. Survival of the fittest, man.'
Tumblr media
'She was very odd to the point among a lot of our classmates that no-one was surprised by her arrest.
'She was a very lonely person - but she isolated herself. 'From what I remember she was even suspended for stabbing someone with a pencil in middle school.'
'She was known for putting spells on people. She would do it by saying weird things and then putting on a curse - obviously we did not take her seriously.
'She would break out into laughter in the middle of class for absolutely no reason.
'When we saw that Lindsay did something like this, nobody was surprised. She was the one most likely.'
