Valeria was a jealous woman and everyone knew it, but no one knew it better than her girlfriend herself, (Y/N). She had learned to deal with her jealousy or just not do things that put her in that state, it wasn't too difficult, Valeria was possessive, however, she was not a maniac.
The people who worked for her were not discreet either, they had flirted in her face more than once and if she were in Valeria's place, she would react in exactly the same way, that day was not completely different, (Y/N) liked to look pretty for her girlfriend and that day had been no exception. There was only one problem, and it was the miniskirt she had decided to wear.
(Y/N) balanced on her feet, waiting for Valeria, that day "she was going to arrive later than normal" or that was what the message she had sent her that morning said, usually, they both left the house together, but not that day, and the youngest was starting to get upset because Valeria didn't arrive.
"Are you waiting for Valeria?" That familiar voice made her come out of her bubble.
She didn't remember the boy's name, but she did remember the number of times he had tried to flirt with her, more than once in front of Valeria, that memory made her giggle, the girl nodded at his question.
"Yes, she said she would be late." She shrugged, it wasn't the first time something like this happened.
The girl looked away from him, her eyes rested on the front door, expecting to see her girlfriend enter that very second, but it didn't happen, she sighed disappointed by her own thoughts.
"A girl like you shouldn't be alone." She rolled her eyes trying not to show the irritation she was feeling, she didn't even say anything when she felt his eyes intensely fixed on her bare legs.
"I'm not alone, I'm waiting for my girlfriend," she answered, emphasizing the last two words. "If you don't remember, she's your boss."
The boy giggled, which made her feel even more irritated, but she did her best not to punch him in the nose. In her place, Valeria would have already done it.
"I don't think she'll come now," he said with such certainty that he made her feel disgusted.
She hated when men acted that way, as if it were their right to have a woman, as if it were her obligation to fall for a man's charms, even though that boy didn't have a single charm.
"She's coming."
"How are you so sure?"
"Because I am here. " That voice made the girl want to jump for joy.
She didn't turn to look at her, she just felt a hand surround her waist, forcing her to take a couple of steps back and pressing against a body behind her, (Y/N) wanted to laugh because of the way the boy's smile had been erased. .
"I'm sorry…" he wanted to murmur, but was interrupted by Valeria.
"Get out of here," she said angrily.
Soon the boy disappeared from her sight, the youngest wanted to laugh, however, she felt the pull on her arm that forced her to walk next to Valeria. She was angry, she could tell by the look on her face, but she didn't say anything, she just stayed silent until they reached her office.
She turned to look at her as soon as heard the door slam shut, she didn't do anything wrong, she knew that, because no matter her jealousy, Valeria would never hurt her.
"He's a son of a bitch," she shouted, annoyed. "I'm going to fire him tomorrow."
(Y/N) remained silent before approaching her, her arms surrounded Valeria, she was taller than her and she liked that difference between them.
"Val, it's not worth it," she murmured, she could feel her girlfriend's body relaxing in her arms.
Valeria turned so she could look her in the eyes, she surrounded her with her arms and closed her eyes for a few seconds in an attempt to relax, she hated him, she hated that boy who always wants to flirt with her girlfriend, it was nothing more than a useless asshole who still didn't understand why he was still working for her.
"I hate him," she murmured.
The shorter one laughed and stood on tiptoe to press her lips against Valeria's for several seconds. It always worked when her girlfriend was tense.
"You say it daily."
"I hate him more every day," she replied, rolling her eyes and pressing herself against her girlfriend's body before kissing her again.
(Y/N) she recognized that type of kisses. It was as if she was silently reminding her that she was hers and no one else's, and she didn't care at all.
She didn't care either when she felt how Valeria began to gently push her back, causing her to take a few steps back until she felt how her back bumped against the edge of the desk.
"Val…" she murmured with heavy breathing, "we can't do anything here."
The taller one giggled, holding her hips tightly, forcing her to sit on the desk, that had never stopped her.
“That wasn't a problem last week,” her girlfriend responded, giggling, as she felt Valeria's hands slide under her blouse, her skin was hot.
No, Valeria never hurt her when it came to jealousy or when she was angry, but she always looked for a way to remind her that she was only hers, just as she was doing in those moments when her lips slid to her neck, not caring that they were in a place that anyone else could enter at any time.
(Y/N) felt something tense in her body as someone knocked on the door in such a desperate way that it even made Valeria frown.
"Puta madre" she murmured angrily, the same thing always happened, they were always interrupted. "I'm not done yet, I'll be back."
Valeria walked away from her, leaving her sitting on the desk, her cheeks flushed and her knees slightly trembling. She leave the office, ready to return as soon as possible and continue with what she had left undone.

Spy x Family Code: White Analysis
I finally saw the Spy x family movie Code: White!!
It was fantastic. I loved it 💖
Here's what I think (spoilers below the picture 😉):

Twilight
It's super evident Twilight cares A LOT about his family. As soon as Handler tells him someone else will take over Operation Strix, he's worried and, during the movie, he goes around like a crazy man doing all sorts of crazy things to keep his family. Nevertheless, the biggest giveaway about this happens when:
Twilight puts Anya before his mission!! Yes, you read right: Agent Twilight receives a direct order from WISE telling him that recovering the microfilm had priority over rescuing Anya and Mr. Spy puts his daughter's safety first and goes to her rescue (which eventually led to getting the microfilm back, but still).
Yor
Yor is a total mom here. She protects her baby and plays with her too 😌 She acts like a mom too because she's always trying to keep the family together; she's the one who reminds that to Loid when he's all frantic working. Here, Yor displays one of her best quality: emotional intelligence. And of course, during the movie at the big fight scene she looks like a total badass.
Now about the big Twiyor moment...
Like I mentioned before here, there's a fake and a real Twiyor moment in the movie. The fake Twiyor moment happens when Yor gets drunk and asks Loid to tell her how he really feels about her (!!!)...before passing out 🫤 You've probably seen plenty of images about that:

The real Twiyor moment happens later, thanks to the captain of the Twiyor ship 🫡 Anya Forger, who pushes her parents to ride the Ferris wheel alone so they can flirt. Here, Yor tells him (crying) that she saw him with his "girlfriend" and Loid clarifies it was just a random stranger (it was Nightfall) asking for directions. This is when the real Twiyor moment happens:

Listen, we could argue that Twilight here was being a liar and trying to fix the situation between them "for the mission", but I choose to believe something different. In my opinion, Twilight was being sincere and he wanted not only to reassure Yor but to pour his heart out and reassure himself. Come on, the man repeated their wedding vows! He was getting carried away (it was too much for our shy Yor) and if it wasn't for Yor punching him out of the Ferris wheel, I think this would have ended in the Twiyor kiss we've all been waiting 😆 (maybe one day!).
Something worth mentioning is that when Twilight and Yor get off the Ferris wheel, Anya reads their minds, but we don't get to know what her parents are thinking 😏 she just smiles and that's how she knows everything is okay between her parents. Little sus, right? I am sure Anya knows what's really going on between those two (read about that here).
This happens again, when Twilight rescues Anya from the kidnappers. We all know Mr. Spy is bad at expressing his emotions, so when he's finally reunited with his daughter, he doesn't show much of anything. Anya hugs him, picks her head up and reads his mind. Just like the last time, we don't get to know what Anya reads inside her papa's mind, but she smiles. Funny how this only happens twice in the movie, in both occasions related to his wife and daughter 🤔
So now, the big question: Is this movie canon?
In this case, every person who sees the movie can form their own opinion about that. In my opinion, since there was no identity reveal nor anything that would change the plot in the manga, I think it's okay to consider it canon. So, until the author says it's not canon, I'm going to consider it part of it.
Overall, it was a fantastic movie, very funny, with plenty of Forger family moments and that something that makes Spy x family so special 💖

Bruce: Tim, you have a broken arm, two broken ribs, got poisoned and barely made it to the cave in time to get an antidote! You should have listened to me!
Tim: Well, at least I didn’t start a gang war just to prove my self worth like Stephanie…
Dick: Tim, you can’t punch a nine year old. I know he’s annoying and you’re hurting, but-
Tim: At least I didn’t beat him to bloody pulp and miserably failed when trying to destroy all of his accomplishments and sense of security in life, may I remind you, just because I was mad at my father.
Cass: You were being too violent. Get a hold of yourself, Tim.
Tim: Since the topic is violence, should I talk about that time Carrie a stuffed stick of dynamite in a woman’s pants? Oh, or maybe when Damian cut off a guy’s head and put a grenade inside his mouth!
Damian: You’re not good enough for the mantle of Robin, Drake. You’re the worst in between all of us. This is my destiny, you were just a place holder until father found someone better.
Tim: Sure, because I certainly am way worse than the two idiots that managed to get themselves killed wearing this costume.
Duke: Dude, I’m just saying that I don’t think that’s safe, alright?
Tim: Oh, because “Mister-I-constantly-jump-out-of-bridges-and-moving-cars" certainly is very qualified to give advice on safety of all things!

Lore Olympus: a golden mine of bad writing
As I said, one post wasn’t enough.
There is still a lot to say about this webcomic and in this post I would like to talk about how Zeus, Apollo and Kronos have been treated. Here I will focus on the first two acts only, because the third act is not over, as well as the story. And yes, that means I will write another post when this whole thing is over.
I wanted to focus on these three gods in particular because are treated in a way that baffles me and makes me question what did they ever do to Mrs. Smythe. Tell me, Rachel: was it something personal? Did they do something to your family? What happened?
But maybe you don’t understand my point, especially if you haven’t read the Greek myths at all and you think that these three are just “Unfaithful Guy”, “Rapist” and “Evil Villain Har Har Who Also Wants To Rape”. Seriously, what’s with this weird obsession with raping everyone and with sex? Did Mrs. Smythe ever see anything else in myths, besides sex?
So please, allow me to explain why their characterizations are wrong and boring - and no, not just from a mythological point of view.

Zeus: the walking clichè
Making Zeus an asshole is understandable, even if utterly boring and clichè. Oh wow, he's an unfaithful husband and he's vain. Very original. Groundbreaking, I'd say. I’ve never read about him being unfaithful to his wife, not even once in all the 200 million retellings made during the history of mankind.
It's a shame because Zeus is much more than that. He's a mighty ruler with a strong sense of justice: in several myths, he punished the assholes for their wrongdoings. He's very clever and strong. He's also associated with xenia, the custom of offering protection to strangers, which means Zeus is also a protector of foreigners.
I mean, this information alone offers so many new perspectives about him! Just imagine if, instead of hanging around and doing nothing useful aside from being everyone’s favorite punching bag, Zeus fought against every corrupt system of the mortal realm, in order to protect the foreigners and the innocents. It would’ve been so cool to see a different side of him, instead of the same thing over and over again!
But nope, Zeus = unfaithful husband only. Let’s ignore all the other aspects of him, to focus on the one everyone focuses on. Let’s make him the umpteenth version of the same guy, instead of offering a new vision. This will surely make the story worth everyone’s time!
Rachel, this could’ve worked if I was 12 and had never read a retelling in my entire life. But since I’m more than twice that age, seeing Zeus as an unfaithful husband again doesn’t get my interest. And I’m sure this doesn’t only apply to me, but to everyone who already saw at least two retellings of him. Isn’t this story supposed to be new and original? Then why are we still picking from the same old clichè visions of these gods? Where is the writer’s personality and ability?

Apollo: king of wasted potentials
I am absolutely, completely, 100% baffled at how Apollo has been treated in this story.
It's insulting to see the most beloved Greek god treated as a bidimensional piece of shit. Not only because he doesn't make any sense in the story (why is he here in the first place? Did Persephone and Apollo even interact in any myth?), but also because there are so many different possibilities for him, that seeing him being this is the biggest waste of potential I’ve ever seen.
A brief recap of who Apollo really is: Apollo is the embodiment of the sun. He is the god of arts and crafts. He's the most beautiful god, he embodies the concept of perfect Greek beauty. And he is associated with a lot of cool stuff, like medicine, truth and oracles. Also, like most of the other Greek gods, Apollo had many male and female lovers.
Now, look me in the eye and tell me that, with all of this, your first idea about him is "yeah, let's make him a stupid rapist, so stupid to not realize that hey, maybe forcing a girl to sleep with you will not make her fall in love with you". Oh and let's not forget he randomly decided he wanted Zeus' throne just after the fertility plot point had been introduced Because Yes. And he’s running for president of Whatever-Land Because Yes. Also, he’s currently involved again in another evil plot Because… yeah, you got it.
It’s just so frustrating to see him being the biggest loser of all time, considering how much cooler he could’ve been. Just think about it: we could've had a bisexual musician, who does concerts with his band (the Muses) and has a shit ton of lovers. We could’ve had a heartbroken doctor, who does his best to save everyone because he has not been able to save his own son from death (Asclepius). We could've had a mysterious advisor who can see the future because of his foresight powers.
What did we get instead? A fucking rapist.
Apollo is nothing but wasted potential. He’s an insult to himself, the story, common sense, and the Greek culture. Of all the incredible things he could've been, he became the most insulting of them all. I really cannot bear to see this fucking idiot and his punching-bag face, pretending to be Apollo. He’s not Apollo.
But if there is a guy I can see less than him, then let me introduce you to…

Kronos: Supreme Master of Wasted Potential
First of all: why is Kronos here? Why does this love story need Persephone to defeat a big bad guy? Just to show how cool and badass she is? Considering that their fight was a joke, it didn't work very well.
But okay, let's say we need a villain Because Yes. Kronos is still a huge waste of potential, probably the biggest waste of potential of the whole series until now. He could’ve been an interesting, multifaceted character, but he became a cartoonish supervillain har-har I want power.
Sigh.
But let’s take a step back and talk about the real, mythological Kronos. His story starts with his parents, Uranus and Gaia. The two had a lot of sons, including Titans (like Kronos) and Hecatonchires (monsters with fifty heads and one hundred arms). Disgusted by their monstrous nature or maybe just out of fear of being overthrown, Uranus chained his sons away into Gaia's womb (aka the Tartarus) so that they could never come out again.
Gaia suffered from this decision, so she devised a plan: she made a stone sickle, gathered her sons and tried to persuade them to castrate Uranus.
All of her sons were afraid of Uranus, Kronos was the only one brave enough to do it. And he was successful: he overthrew his father and became the new ruler of the universe, along with his wife/sister Rhea.
However, after becoming king, he didn't free all of his brothers as his mother wanted, but locked Hecatonchires and Cyclopes away once again. And so, Gaia told him that, one day, he would meet his father’s same fate and be overthrown by one of his own children.
Scared by these words, Kronos devised a plan: every time he had a new child, he took the baby from Rhea and swallowed them. Rhea was desperate and, in order to save her last son Zeus, she sought Gaia's help.
So Rhea gave birth to Zeus in a secret place, then handed Kronos a stone wrapped in clothes: he swallowed it, thinking that it was his son. This way, Zeus managed to escape the same fate as his siblings and was raised in secret, away from his father, until he was old enough to come back and fulfill his destiny.
And now, you may think Zeus overthrew his father with a sword and killed him and nah nah nah, myths are not that stupid and predictable. Zeus didn’t use violence to overthrow his father, but intelligence. He disguised himself to reach Kronos' court and, at the right time, he gave him a drink. That drink was an emetic (given by Gaia), that forced Kronos to throw up everything he swallowed, in reverse order: first the stone he thought was his last son, then Zeus' brothers and sisters.
After freeing his siblings, Zeus did what his father would've never done: he released the Hecatoncheires and the Cyclops to help him in the following battle against Kronos and the other Titans, a battle known as Titanomachy.
The war ended with the victory of the Olympians (i.e. Zeus and his siblings). Many Titans were confined in Tartarus, under the Hecatonchires' control, others were not imprisoned and kept appearing in other myths.
And Kronos? His fate differs depending on the myths. In some versions, he was imprisoned in Tartarus. But according to other, more interesting versions, Zeus forgave him after years, freed him and Kronos became king of the Elysian Fields: the famous earthly paradise reserved for the greatest Greek heroes.
Now. Just look at all of this beautiful, beautiful potential.
We have Gaia, a powerful goddess who overthrew two rulers of the universe, without moving a finger. A goddess strong and clever, but also a mother who wanted all of her children to be free - even the most hideous ones. She could’ve been a tragic figure, a master manipulator, or an evil schemer. Or all these things!
We have the Hecatonchires: fighters so powerful, to turn the tide of any battle. They could’ve been scary and intimidating, but also tragic monsters who just wanted to be accepted. They could’ve taught a beautiful lesson about the importance of accepting the ugly and giving everyone a chance to prove themselves.
Then we have Kronos. And Kronos had everything to be the greatest character.
Think about this concept: Kronos has always been afraid of Uranus, just like his brothers. He was just better at hiding his feelings. And that visceral fear is still inside him, it still haunts him after centuries, just like the memory of how he overthrew his father. And that fear takes the shape of paranoid thoughts about his father coming back to take the throne.
Kronos could’ve seen his father haunting him, but he could’ve also dissociated and seen himself as his father. In his altered state of mind, he could’ve been both the king and the one who overthrows him.
That could’ve made him a truly dangerous, unhinged character. A god who can’t see what’s real anymore, obsessed with the ghosts of his past. A god with nothing to lose and everything to gain. After all, if he kills his children again, the throne would be his once more. And, since he sees himself as himself and as his father at the same time, he would think that he is the "true king" coming back to take his throne.
That could’ve been awesome. Kronos could've been complex, desperate and multifaceted, a villain to pity and to be afraid of. A truly new, interesting version to know and love.
And do you have any idea how incredible Zeus could’ve been in this version? We could see him facing Kronos again, still as strong and determined as when he was young. And while everyone would expect him to kill Kronos, he would use his intelligence once again. He would prove to Kronos (and to everyone else) how intelligence is always superior to violence and how he's a good leader, despite his thousands of flaws.
Also, we could've seen Zeus talking to the defeated Kronos and making him the ruler of the Elysian Fields. We could've had a meaningful ending, in which Zeus understands Kronos' fears and shares his own.
I would’ve adored this, because according to the myth, Zeus was also supposed to be overthrown by a son! Hence why he swallowed Metis (his first wife) while she was pregnant.
The myth never truly clarifies who this supposed "son" is, but according to the different versions, Metis was pregnant not with a son, but with a daughter. A daughter who, one day, would be born, full grown, from Zeus' head. A daughter who would become Zeus' favorite child: Athena.
Honestly? I ADORE the idea that there was never a son to overthrow Zeus, but a daughter. And she would not overthrow his father by violence like her grandfather or by intelligence like her father, but by love. Athena doesn't need to take the throne from her father physically, she doesn't even need to sit on that throne: not when her father loves her more than anything else.
And I love the idea that Zeus is aware of that. He knows his daughter is his weakness. He knows that, if she asks, he will willingly give her that throne, because he loves her too much. And I would've loved to see him sharing these thoughts with the defeated Kronos. It could've been a beautiful moment, to see Zeus talking with the fatherly figure he always missed from his life. It could've led to a beautiful, meaningful ending for a dramatic story.
But can you see the problem here? This concept works for a story about Zeus, not about Hades and Persephone! These two have nothing to do with Kronos! Heck, even Rachel Smythe knows it, considering she had to pull a stupid plot point out of thin air, to explain why Kronos would give a damn about Persephone!
In case you were wondering: yes, the fertility-magical-power-battery-thing is bullshit. Gods don’t need a magical battery to be powerful. And no, fertility goddesses are not rare either: Aphrodite, Demeter, Hera, even Artemis are just a few of the fertility goddesses in Greek mythology. Kronos could’ve picked his favorite from a large pool, instead of becoming an absolute creep with Persephone in the stupidest fight of all time.
And speaking of that, two words on the supposed “fight”. First of all, apologies to all fights for being associated with this thing, because this was anything but a fight: it was a cartoonish conversation accompanied by the umpteenth sexualization of Persephone, who first appeared fully naked, then with a dress so stupid to defy the laws of physics and perspective.
And if you don’t believe me, please see it by yourself: this is how the dress was supposed to be, according to episode 75

This is how it ended up. Apparently, the Fates didn’t predict how huge Persephone’s boobs would be and the neckline didn’t grow accordingly: I feared to see one of them slipping out from it anytime during the “fight”

Also, please appreciate how Persephone is turned to the side, but the dress’ stupidly huge neckline is shown from the front, otherwise we would’ve seen her full naked boobs.

And that stupid neckline kept bothering me throughout the whole “fight”, because it kept changing size. Check the episodes and see it by yourself: sometimes it’s smaller, other times it’s wider and it keeps moving in impossible ways. It drove me insane.
But since we’re talking about drawings, please allow me a very brief parenthesis about them too.

The drawings are a joke
I am not an artist. I can barely draw a straight line by hand. But I studied art history, perspective, proportions and colors, so I’m not completely clueless.
But you don’t need to be clueless, to notice how bad the drawings became. If you have two eyes and saw another human being in your life before, then you can notice by yourself how bad they are.
It’s not a secret that Lore Olympus’ art style changed over time. In the beginning, this comic was characterized by a lot of straight lines and geometric shapes, alternating and mixing with gentle curves. There were blur effects, colored outlines, a lot of details that gave an overall dreamy, ethereal vibe to every chapter (like the soft glow that accompanied the gods).
But as the story progressed, these elements disappeared. The geometric shapes gave way to an overall “softness” and roundness. The dreamy vibes and blur effects were replaced by sharper, clearer drawings. A distinct black outline now marks every character.
And speaking of characters, they were the ones who changed more. Lore Olympus always had funny, silly faces but the characters were also able to be serious and look natural. Now all we have are grotesque faces: the characters are a collection of caricatures and no one has a normal expression anymore. Check by yourself, by confronting a random episode of the third act with the first one: they’re two different worlds.
The disproportions were common too, since episode one. But at least they were somehow plausible, while now they’re completely absurd. It’s as if Mrs Smythe completely forgot what a human being looks like.
And this is pretty evident in how all characters became a rough draft of the two protagonists: all women got Persephone’s face, all men become buff and huge, with wide-ass shoulders and teeny tiny heads. This is particularly obvious at the end of season 2 / start of season 3, when we see some of the funniest images ever, like Hades with a tiny head and shoulders as wide as the entire USA

No excuse can justify these drawings: no one is running after Mrs Smythe, nor forcing her to draw, and people are paying her real money to work on this webcomic. The least she can do is draw something that doesn’t look like a bad distortion of a human being.
Unless this isn’t her drawing, but her staff’s work. In that case, they are still paid to do their job, right? Or do they think this story is a joke and decide to show how much of a joke it is, by turning everyone into a grotesque caricature?

In conclusion
Lore Olympus is hilarious because of how bad the writing is. It’s a manual example of how not to write a climax for your story. It’s a perfect demonstration of how you can still fail, even with great characters with endless possibilities. It’s a list of all the mistakes you can make as an artist.

As a writer myself, I appreciate Lore Olympus, because I need works that teach me what I shouldn’t do. Good teachers are useful, but bad ones are even more useful, because it’s thanks to them that I can learn and grow and make better stories. Lore Olympus might be a failure from an artistic and writing point of view, but it might also serve as a foundation, from which other people can develop better ideas.

Okay so in my last Kevin post, I mentioned I have analysis' on how Kevin isn't a coward and how his trauma still affects him and you guys wanted to read it so here!
Why Kevin Day Isn’t a Coward: 
Essentially this comes down to 3 specific points in the fandom and even in the books since people are very adamant about the whole coward thing. The two things that people (in book and fandom-wise) use to argue that Kevin is a coward are: 
Kevin is still afraid/ doesn’t stand up to Riko 
That he left Jean behind in the nest.
Starting off with the first point. Kevin is still afraid and doesn’t stand up to Riko for the majority of the books. Firstly, we need to understand that Kevin has been abused from an extremely young age in the Nest and was conditioned into thinking that kind of behaviour was normal. And by that I mean specifically Riko’s abuse but before that, it was Coach Moriyama that abused both of them. 
He was stuck in the Nest for over a decade where his only role was “property” the entire time. That was all he would ever be to them and additionally to that, he wasn’t even allowed to be better than Riko. His entire life from the very start has been about exy but it was only after his mothers death where it became life or death. 
During tfc when Neil finds out how Kevin’s hand really broke Wymack says “But the day Kevin stops playing forever is the day he dies. He has nothing else. He wasn't raised to have anything else. Do you understand? We cannot lose to the Ravens this year. Kevin won't survive it."
He wasn’t raised to have anything else, exy is quite literally his everything, and without it, he has nothing and nobody. In this same scene, Wymack says, “Kevin doesn't talk about his time at Evermore, but I could tell it wasn't the first time Riko or Moriyama laid a hand on him. It was just the first time Kevin was smart enough to pack his bags and walk away.”
We never find out in detail what exactly happened to Kevin in the Nest but in TRK when Neil goes there we can see how deluded and obsessed Riko is with Kevin.
Neil moved up alongside him and regretted it almost immediately. Postcards of faraway cities both foreign and domestic were taped to the walls. Beneath each one were scraps of paper. Kevin's now-familiar scrawl listed dates and explanations for the travels. Most of them were games. Some indicated photo shoots and interviews. Books lined the shelves built into the headboard and Neil knew from skimming the spines they were Kevin's. Kevin was majoring in history for reasons Neil couldn't understand; these dry titles were the sorts of things he would find fascinating. It gave Neil chills to see his space preserved like this. It was like Kevin had gone out on an errand, not that he'd transferred to another team entirely.
Riko is so sure that Kevin is going to come back to him because he’s instituted such fear into him, he doesn’t think Kevin has the strength to stand up to him. Which he does, but people don’t seem to realise you can’t undo over a decade's worth of trauma overnight. 
Anyway, during Neil’s time in the Nest, he’s treated very similarly to how Kevin would be considering he was in his place but also not as harsh because they had to send Neil back to the Foxes inevitably.
"I am going to love hurting you," Riko said, "like I loved hurting Kevin."
What follows this is Riko tying Neil down and torturing him with a switchblade. By the time Neil leaves the Nest he doesn’t remember anything from the experience- he was so traumatised by it that he doesn’t remember it at all. (It also kinda sucks how Neil gets more sympathy for being in the nest for 2 weeks than Kev did for being there for over a decade.)
Putting this into perspective, Kevin went through that for so much longer and doesn’t get nearly enough of the same sympathy Neil did. Neil returned and Kevin got punched for letting him go even though he tried persuading Neil not to. Kevin has always had Neil’s best interest at heart. 
Kevin shook his head and bulled on when Neil started to argue. "The master wants to salvage you. He's going to sign you to the Raven lineup in spring. So long as you keep quiet and keep your head down he won't tell the main family he's found you." "I'm not a Raven," Neil said. "I never will be." "Then run," Kevin insisted, low and frantic. "It's the only way you'll survive."
Kevin was willing to sacrifice the only chance he had to prove his autonomy to the Moriyamas if it meant Neil would be safe. Without Neil, they wouldn’t have enough players to qualify and they wouldn’t be able to play at all. (Again: “But the day Kevin stops playing forever is the day he dies. He has nothing else. He wasn't raised to have anything else. Do you understand? We cannot lose to the Ravens this year. Kevin won't survive it.")
Not to mention the whole “Kevin was silent for an endless minute, then said, "You should be Court." It was barely a whisper, but it cut Neil to the bone. It was a resentful goodbye to the bright future Kevin had wanted for Neil. Kevin recruited Neil because he believed in Neil's potential. He brought him to the Foxes intending to make a star athlete out of him. Despite his condescending attitude and his dismissals of Neil's best efforts Kevin honestly expected Neil to make the national team after graduation.
And even after that, he promised to teach Neil, because at the end of the day, Neil was still Neil and he never gave up on him once.
And Neil understood that being on the run for 8 years was more preferable to the Nest. 
“But all Neil had to do was look at Kevin to know he would have hated that life 
too.”
Sorry I kinda went off track there anyway we can also see how much Riko’s presence still affects Kevin especially in scenes like the Kathy Ferdinand show. 
“Any animosity Neil felt toward Kevin for forcing him onto this show evaporated. He couldn't be angry when Riko was here, not when Riko was to Kevin what Neil's father was to him. Petty anger had nothing on this full-fledged terror.”
Obviously, we all know what a dickhead Neil’s dad was to him so Neil comparing the fear of his father being similar to Kevin’s fear of Riko is so important because it just puts into perspective how afraid Kevin is here face-to-face with his abuser the first time since said abuser permanently disabled him.
But what I don’t think is that Kevin has been standing upto Riko since the start because right after this when they were backstage, Kevin physically stopped Riko from hurting Neil even if it meant getting hurt by Riko again.
A black look twisted Riko's expression into something ugly and unrecognizable. He reached for Neil, but Kevin caught his arm to stop him. Riko slammed his elbow back into Kevin's face without missing a beat.
This scene is probably the best to describe how downright afraid Kevin is of Riko but there are others when Kevin has multiple panic attacks at just the thought of Riko or being in the same vicinity as him and rightfully so! Riko abused him, manipulated him and then took away the only thing he had. And Kevin was just forced to think this was okay. 
And a lot of characters and fans see his fear as cowardice instead of a normal trauma response. This is also because Neil tends to speak out more against Riko than Kevin (You know I get it…) but unlike Neil, Kevin has had direct repercussions towards him for the “mistake” of talking back to Riko which of course makes him hesitant. 
He knows the Moriyamas could drag him back at any moment and he's terrified of that happening.
Which leads to the second bit of “Kevin doesn’t stand up to Riko.” when many times, he has.
The most prominent example is in TRK, just after the foxes lost their first match to the ravens.
“You have fallen so far, Kevin. You should have stayed down and saved us the trouble of forcing you back to your knees." "I'm satisfied," Kevin said. It was the last response any of the Foxes expected from him. They forgot about Riko in favor of gaping at Kevin. "Not with their score or performance, but with their spirit. I was right. There's more than enough here for me to work with."
Kevin chose the foxes over the ravens- over Riko. He doesn’t allow their loss to become something Riko can use against him but instead something to affirm his current standing with them. This is also the first game Andrew played without his meds meaning he’s crashed by the end of it.
Kevin distracted the Ravens from Andrew's unsteadiness by facing them.
Kevin willingly turned to talk to his ex-abuser and his team if it meant Andrew wouldn’t be under fire. Most people only see Kevin and Andrew as Andrew protecting Kevin but Kevin protected Andrew just as much.
And of course we have the whole tattoo removal and the last exy match against the foxes but I need everyone to understand that those are so so so important. Kevin spent the entire series save the last quarter of the last book viewing himself as Riko’s property. Riko refers to him as such and even without Riko near him, his control is still strong over Kevin.
So Kevin removing his tattoo and replacing it with something with a higher hierarchical structure than Riko’s status as king is so detrimental, it’s a turning point for him because he’s viewing himself as his own person now. And Kevin scoring the winning goal brings us full circle because the last time he did that with Riko, he ended up disabled and shunned.
This brings me to my second point about Kevin running away from the nest. Alot of people see Kevin escpaing from the nest and leaving behind Jean as an act of cowardice. This bit gets a bit complicated because in no way shape or form am I trying to compare trauma’s or anything like that.
But to continue on. The ravens had a very strict policy that we got to see during Neil's experience one of which being that no matter how injured they were, they were still expected to show up to practice. The more mistakes they made the more punishment they'd find themselves in. Not showing was practically a death wish.
Now Kevin having his hand fucking broken would mean thay either he doesn't practise and get punished or practise with his fucked up hand and further damage it. If he stayed I wholeheartedly believe he would've died.
He ran away to save his life and that will never be cowardice not once. He didn't go to Wymack immediately when he found out because he knew what kind of target he'd paint on Wymacks back.
"He was trying to protect him," Neil said. "If Coach knew Kevin was his son, he'd have tried to take him from Edgar Allan." Nicky grimaced. "They'd have never let Kevin go." 
He only left when he had no other option. He had nothing left, the one thing he did have was taken away from him, he had no purpose and for once Riko didn't care enough about him to pay attention. And he used that to run.
Leaving Jean behind was something he always regretted, but it was a game of survival. Jean was a gift to the Moriyamas, he was also property to them and couldn't leave. And if the roles were reversed I strongly believe Jean would've done the same thing.
Also Kevin finds a place for him layer with the trojans because he knew that being a fox wouldn't be good for him.
"He isn't safe with us," Kevin said. "I won't give him false hope."
Staying in the nest would've been suicide for Kevin. He's one of the biggest victims in the series but nobody talks about it enough I fear and there's so much to learn about him via context clues etc.
And the saddest thing in my opinion is that Kevin knew was it was like to be loved, he was raised by his mother for a few years before going to the Moriyamas. 
ANYWAY to conclude, I suck at essays and I hope I've worded everything well and what I'm trying to say gets across. Kevin is not a coward, never has been a coward and never will be. He's survived through such a damaging and abusive environment only to get moved to a separate environment where everyone just ridicules his defense tactics and he has no real sense of support. 
His reasons for what he does always stems from the fact the he doesn't want to go back to being under Riko and Coach Moriyamas "care" and that he's afraid. And most of the time it's things he can't shake from the nest.
Like when he pushes the foxes its so they're always at their best and so none of them get hurt or punished for mistakes. He pushed himself the hardest because he doesn't want to directly affect his teammates. 
Or the celebrity persona he was forced to develop.
Or how he makes sure everyone is staying healthy and that they don't force themselves to play when sick or injured because he knows what it's like to be forced to play like that day after day. 
AND IVE GONE OFF COURSE AGAIN yeah I kinda mashed together both analysis' of how Kevin's trauma from the nest affects him and how he's not a coward into one thing AND THIS IS SUPER LONG so if ur still here thank you very much for reading I really hope this makes sense

Raiden’s back slams against the ground, the man letting out a soft grunt. “Nice hit,” he compliments, getting up with your help. “Thanks.” You respond, but your eyes are elsewhere. Scanning the people around you, you search for him. Did he see you succeed? Is he impressed? Did he see that? Is all that you can think about as your eyes land on Kenshi. He gives a kind smile, and a nod. Your heart explodes just from seeing it, and you smile back.
“Dude, you’re like… head over heels for him.” Raiden teases. “I am not!” You argue, finally looking at your friend. “You are! You’re always looking at him when you do something, and you follow him around like a puppy! You love his approval.” He snickers, shaking his head with amusement. “Shut up..!” you hiss, “he might hear you.” Raiden laughs, shaking his head once more. “Right, right. Of course. Come on, i’m starving.” He claps you on the back, leading you off to finally get some lunch after an hours worth of training.
Within a few hours, your muscles ache with the amount of training you’ve done. These monks really know how to hit! You like it here. No one pulls punches just because you’re a girl, they all fight fair. Glancing up from your dinner, you see Kenshi. You’ve managed to snag the seat across from him, and you can’t tell if this was a good idea or not. On one hand, you get to sit with him- on the other, every time you look up your heart begins to race and you have to look down again before you completely shut down. You’ve never met anyone that made you feel like this… you’ve never felt so strongly for someone, and you would tell him, if it weren’t for your fear of the swordsman rejecting you.
“Are you alright?” Kenshi asks, and you almost choke on your water. “Yes,” you respond, nodding. “I’m fine.” Giving him a smile, you hope he doesn’t press on this. “Are you sure? You look a little flustered.” Kenshi notes, raising his brows. “Well- I’m a little warm… but i’m fine! It’s nothing to worry about.” You wave him off, laughing a little. The man across from you hums, examining you a little before accepting your answer and turning back to his dinner.
Days pass. Gruelling days of training. Raiden is finally selected as Earthrealm’s fighter, and potential champion. He’s nervous, as would anyone in his shoes. A lot is on his shoulders, and he knows this. With fortune, or luck, or both, he wins the first few fights. Sitting at dinner with Kitana, who has taken a liking to you, you have to listen to Johnny’s gushing of the woman next to you. Kitana brushes him off, laughing softly. “Say,” she turns to you. “What’s with you and the swordsman?” Kitana asks. “Ah- you mean Kenshi?” You respond, glancing to the man at the other table. He’s speaking with Liu Kang, glancing to Johnny every now and then. You wonder what they’re talking about…
“Yes. You seem very… attached to him.” Kitana notes, her eyes following yours and looking at the man himself. “Well- it’s nothing.” You fluster a little. We’re you attached to him..? no, that’s ridiculous… but maybe a little..? “I don’t think it’s nothing.” Kitana laughs. “You’re in love. Aren’t you?” She looks to you, raising a brow. “What?!” Your eyes widen, “no- no, i’m not!” You shake your head, denying her very true claims. Kitana laughs softly, her hand moving to rest on your shoulder. “It’s alright. There’s no need to deny it.” She assures you. “But, perhaps you should talk to him.” The princess suggests. “No- I cant… because if he doesn’t feel the same way, I’ll ruin everything!” You whisper to her. “But if he does?” Kitana asks, giving you a pointed look. “I can’t risk it.” You mutter after a beat of silence. “I can’t. I don’t want to lose him.”
“Look. You are a strong girl. A fine one. If he doesn’t reciprocate, that’s no one’s fault, but it will be his loss. Talk to him..!” she urges you, shaking your shoulder a little. “I can’t..!” you stress. “I can’t do that. If I were to confess, I could risk losing the one person I feel for. To stay silent… it hurts, yes, but I have him. I don’t want to lose that.” You explain. Kitana nods slightly, sighing. “I cannot pressure you to do this… but think about it.” She tells you, turning back to her dinner. You sigh, giving Kenshi a glance. He’s already looking at you. Blinking, you give him a kind smile, watching him smile back as your heart hammers in your chest. Looking down at your plate, you wait for your body to calm.
The tournament is done. Earthrealm’s champion has won, and Raiden feels like he can relax. Heading home, you’re back with on Earth. It’s night, and everyone had decided to celebrate the victory. In your room at the Wu Shi academy, you lay in bed. Your heart is racing, but for a different reason. Nightmares. They plague you, follow you around, taunting you. Getting up, you swing your legs over your bed and immediately leave your room. You feel like you’re suffocating, your throat constricting, tears in your eyes. In a moment of weakness, your legs carry you to his room. Kenshi’s most likely asleep… but you need this. You need him.
Knocking gently, you wait for an answer, your heart in your throat. The door clicks, then opens. Kenshi, looking confused, gives you a look over. “Are you… okay?” He asks softly, noting how distraught you look. “Can I come in- please..?” you beg. He sees your trembling hands, the tears on your lower lashes, and nods, stepping aside to let you in. Stepping into his room, you listen to him shut the door. “Are you alright? What’s wrong?” Kenshi asks softly, his inked hand resting on your lower back. “I- it’s stupid, but I had a nightmare.” You whisper. Kenshi’s eyes soften. “Sit down… do you want to talk about it?” He offers, sitting you on his bed and taking a seat beside you. “No…” you choke out, letting your body collapse to his chest. Kenshi doesn’t push you away, simply curling his strong arms around you, holding you close.
“Shh, shh… breathe.” He whispers, rubbing your back gently; letting you hyperventilate into his chest. You’re having a rough time… and he wasn’t heartless. “Deep breaths. In through your nose, hold it, then out through your mouth.” He murmurs, palm stroking circles on your back. You’re shaking, clinging to him. If you weren’t so upset, you’d be embarrassed…
Slowly, with his help, you soothe. Pulling away, your eyes avert his. “I- I’m sorry.” You murmur, but Kenshi hushes you immediately. “There’s nothing to be sorry about. You’re only human.” He tells you, touching your arm compassionately. Your heart is racing, but now for a very very different reason. “Can- can I stay with you?” You whisper, eyes meeting his. “Of course.” He nods, smiling kindly. “I’m here for you,” Kenshi assures you, rubbing your arm gently.
Every other night, you’re in Kenshi’s bed. Sometimes you manage without, but most nights now, you’re sleeping beside him. For some reason… he calms the nightmares, him just being beside you as you slept helps you dream of other things. You don’t know what kind of trick it is, but you’re so thankful for it.
Lay beside him, you’re facing Kenshi, not sleeping just yet. You’re simply watching him, that warm feeling in your stomach. Your heart isn’t beating as fast. You’re perfectly calm… and you smile. Kenshi opens his eyes, turning to you. “Sorry- I didn’t mean to stare.” You whisper to him. Kenshi simply chuckles. “It’s fine. Is there something you want to talk about?” He asks, wondering if you’d finally tell him of your nightmares. Thinking of Kitana’s words… you nod a little. “Yeah, actually… there is.” You murmur. Kenshi rolls to his side, facing you. “Talk to me.” He encourages, smiling kindly.
“Kenshi… it’s not about my nightmares. But it’s something that I really need to tell you,” you start, watching him nod understandingly. “I… the truth is- Kenshi, I love you. I… I know it seems strong- but… I- I do, and I can’t help it.” You whisper, immediately afraid he’s going to reject you with disgust and kick you out… but he doesn’t. “Hey…” he murmurs, hand moving to gently stroke your face. “Do you… really?” He asks, eyes kind and gentle. “Yes… I do. I- I really tried to suppress it at the start but- I can’t hide it anymore.” You mutter, tears welling up in your eyes. You’re terrified of losing him to your stupid feelings. “Hey- don’t cry… don’t cry, it’s okay.” Kenshi frowns, pulling you into a tight hug.
“I’m so sorry- I just- I can’t help how I feel for you. Please don’t hate me.” You beg, pressing your forehead to his shoulder. Kenshi frowns, speaking your name firmly to get your attention. “I don’t hate you.” He murmurs. “I could never hate you… I… I feel the same way. You’re special to me.” Kenshi whispers. “Really..? you… you love me, too?” You look up at him, eyes wide. Kenshi smiles, pressing a soft kiss to your lips. Your heart explodes, and you immediately kiss him back. Kenshi chuckles against your lips, shaking his head with amusement as he pulls away. “I should of said something sooner.” He murmurs. “But in truth, I… I was afraid too. I didn’t want to scare you off.” He smiles. Kenshi presses a soft kiss to the tip of your nose. “Will you… be mine?” He murmurs. Your heart swells. “I will. I will be yours.” You nod desperately, your forehead accidentally bumping against his. Kenshi laughs at your enthusiasm, rubbing your forehead a little. “Easy, tiger.” He teases, kissing you again. “Sorry.” You smile, accepting his soft pecks. “Don’t be. You’re the only person I’d let headbutt me.” He chuckles.
Kenshi’s arms wrap around you tight, letting you curl to his chest. “I love you,” he murmurs, feeling a weight lift from his chest as he finally says it to you. “I love you too.” You respond, unable to wipe that lovestruck grin off your face. Maybe having nightmares is a good thing, because without them, you wouldn’t be here, in the arms of the man you love.

You need some new friends. The friends that you’ve been running around with since you were all in diapers are not the best friends you could have asked for. By any definition of the word. 
Seeing as they ditched you as soon as they realized that they might hit it off with some of the people here.
Leaving you, all by your lonesome, to get cornered by a man who smells like a walking brewery. 
He’s so drunk, in fact, that you’re not entirely sure what he wants. His words are all slurred together into a jumbled mess of words. Though you’re pretty sure he’s hitting on you.
That, or he’s trying to sell you speeder insurance.
You hold your hands up, trying to keep him from leaning into your personal space, and it’s…not working.
You’d sell your right arm for one of your friends to notice that you’re in need of a rescue. But you can’t even see any of them.
“Ah, there you are!” A strong arm slings around your shoulders and you’re tugged into a broad chest, “Honestly, babe, you can’t just wander off like that.”
You blink, bewildered, at the man standing slightly in front of you. A clone, with a five tattooed on his forehead. He’s handsome, but then, all of the clones are, and has a rakish grin on his face.
“Sorry,” You say automatically, and his grin softens before he tosses a wink in your direction, “I got turned around.” You add.
“Totally understandable, there’s a bunch of people here.” He squeezes you a little tighter, “Excuse us, we need to get back to our table.”
The drunk man slurs something, and apparently your savior speaks drunk, because he doesn’t look the least bit confused.
“You’re very drunk, you should probably go for a walk. Get some fresh air.”
The drunk man rears his fist back as though he’s about to punch the man standing slightly in front of you. And you hazard a glance at the clone, he looks bored, and you feel a little silly for being so worried about him.
The man protecting you, moves slightly and nudges you to the side as the drunk man finally throws his punch, and ends up toppling to the floor. “Um…”
“Come on, leave him be. Someone will come and take care of him.” He ushers you away from the toppled man, and then grins at you, “Fives.”
“Beg pardon?”
“My name. It’s Fives.”
“Oh!” You hurriedly introduce yourself, and his smile widens. He really is very handsome. And apparently you’re a little more out of sorts than you thought because those very words fall from your lips.
Fives’ grin widens, “Thank you. I happen to think you’re stunning too.”
“I’m pretty sure I didn’t use the word stunning.”
“But you meant it though, I can tell.” Fives winks at you, and tugs you onto the dance floor, “Now, because I saved you from that awful drunk man, you should dance with me.”
“Is that right? Is this your payment?”
“Sure. But I’d do it anyway.”
You frown at him thoughtfully, even as you slide your arms around him, allow him to tug you closer, “You could have been hurt. What if he had a weapon?”
“Well, better I got hurt than you.” Fives replies with a small grin.
“No one is worth that!”
“I disagree. You clearly are.”
You’re struck silent by his sincerity, and his grin softens, “Now, let’s dance. And then, maybe, if you’re interested, we can go and get some caf?”
“Are you asking me out on a date?”
“Yeah. I am.”
“Oh.” You blink at him, “...there’s a cafe not far from here that sells the tea that I prefer-” You offer hesitantly.
“Sounds like a plan to me. But first we have to dance.”

THE GIRL HAD SOMETHING CLUTCHED tightly in her small hand. It was a crinkled brown baggie. Rindou eyed it up rather dubiously.
“Good morning,” he said, though it sounded rather uncertain.
The two of you were standing beneath the tree where he had met you the last time, the one in front of your apartment. Rindou was wearing a baggy sweater and jeans. You were wearing a similar sweater over your uniform, oddly enough, but it looked a lot cuter on you.
She dropped the little baggie into the palm of his hand. 
“I made it for you,” She said.
He tilted his head. A quick scan down the side of the bag revealed that her statement was true. His name was written in girly lettering on the bottom of it.
The corner of his lip twitched. “What’s this?” He asked.
“Lunch for you!” She answered rather cutely, putting her hand over his and closing his fingers around the bag. 
Rindou paused, glancing down at the bag and then back up at her. Back down at the bag, and back up at her. He felt himself begin to smile.
I want her to fall in love with me .
“I got your text,” she fiddled with the strings of her bag. “Figured I’d make you one more sandwich to eat. It’s not the best, but–”
“Thanks, angel,” He grinned. “Wanna eat together today?”
It became something of a ritual. Every morning, Rindou would wake up an hour and a half earlier than one normally would for school. He would make the trek to her apartment – yes, trek, he had a bike but he didn’t want to use it. Not because he wanted to save gas or anything, he just wanted to stall. He would wait for her beneath the tree outside of her place – usually only for about a few minutes. You were very punctual.
And every morning while you walked down the sidewalk to him, he would make note of the accessories you wore with your uniform. Yesterday, a headband. Today, who knows. It seemed incredibly mundane, but he enjoyed doing it. 
She would hand him his lunch – usually a grilled cheese sandwich, sometimes something else, but always some sort of sandwich – and he would walk her to school. The little baggie almost always had a note of some sort inside of it. 
She didn’t know he had been collecting them at home, of course, but that wasn’t the point.
He liked to think he did a good job of making you feel safe. The people at school parted like the red sea when you strode through the halls. That was because he usually wasn’t too far behind you, but still.
Eventually, word of mouth spread. She began to be known as “Rindou’s Girl”.
Rindou, shockingly enough, did nothing to stop these rumors. He didn’t care if it made people steer clear of her. No, in fact, much of what he did spurred the rumors onward. It was almost too perfect.
He would meet up with her between classes, walking her here and there whenever it aligned with his own schedule. Even if he had gang duties to attend to, he would make sure to be back in time to see his ‘girl’. 
Rindou would have his arm thrown over her shoulder while the two of them bickered down the hall. Nine out of ten times, she would punch him in the side. He didn’t care. It was well worth the (nearly nonexistent) pain.
Again, it was almost too perfect.
Almost.
“I think you like her,” Ran noted. He stabbed the straw a little deeper into his milkshake, breaking up a few chunks somewhere near the bottom of it. He sucked harshly on the other end of the straw, and when nothing came up, he furrowed his brows.
“I think you might be fuckin’ stupid,” Rindou offered back. He hadn’t bothered to order a milkshake of his own, sticking to a plate of steamed veggies and beef. He had broken his diet for her, and now his stomach pudge was paying the price. “I told you what my intentions were with her.”
“Mmh,” Ran popped one of Rindou’s beef chunks into his mouth. “Your intentions can mean one thing. Don’t matter if what happens is unintentional.”
Rindou took a brief moment to ponder his older brother’s wise words, and very quickly came to the realization that they didn’t make a lick of sense. “Ran, what the fuck does that mean?”
“Means… you can say whatever you want, in theory. Don’t mean that’s what’s actually goin’ on,” Ran picked up his chopsticks and tapped them gently against the side of his ceramic plate. “I could believe I’m, fuckin’... Queen Elizabeth. Don’t mean I actually am. Don’t lie to yourself.”
Rindou leaned back against the leather covering on his booth seat, crossing his arms with a stubborn scowl. “I’m not lyin’ to no one, Ran, It really is not that deep.”
Ran quirked a brow at that, a mischievous glint flashing briefly through his eyes. “Really? So, you’re just casually leaving an hour early every day to walk her to school? Just Buddies? Just casually obsessing over her personal life? Just casually–”
“We are buddies,” Rindou cut his brother short. Technically, that wasn’t a lie. No label, no problem. 
Ran took another sip from his stubborn milkshake and actually succeeded this time. “Sure, yeah,” he teased. “Buddies that just casually make out from time to time, right?”
“Exactly,” Rindou accepted it. At least it was something. “Kinda like the 13 girls you keep on rotation in your phone. Just buddies.”
“Those are fuckbuddies,” Ran rolled his eyes. “Not the same. Unless you’re pipin’ her, in which case–”
Rindou’s frustration seemed to be growing by the second, as seemed to be the trend with Ran. “I’m surprised you’re so invested in my love life – or lack thereof.”
“Woah,” Ran whistled. “ Thereof . That’s a big word for you.”
“You should invest the energy you put towards that into getting a fuckin’ degree,” Rindou snapped back.  
“I’m just saying, for someone who claims to have no emotions attached to this chick, it seems uncharacteristically emotional to go threaten her bullies after school,” The older of the two noted with a pleased hum. “Or how you claim to only wanna use ‘er, but judgin’ by the way you described your little…” Here he paused to wave his hands around, like he was trying to find the words to express his thoughts. “Session… yesterday, I think you’re totally into her.”
The booth the two brothers sat in was small, crammed into a corner in the back of the restaurant. It seemed even smaller now that Rindou was being faced with the daunting possibility of catching feelings for his prey.
“That’s literally not even true,” Rindou tried to defend himself.
Ran raised a brow. “You went through her diary.”
“I was curious,” Rindou replied.
“Why the hell would you be curious if you didn’t give a shit about her?” Ran offered in response, and Rindou hated that he was actually right about something for once. “I think it’s a little more than just a game.”
Rindou knitted his brows together, “I’m just ‘tryna get inside her head.”
“You can barely even get in ‘ya own head half the time, dumbass,” Ran leaned in conspiratorially, his tone dropping to a mock whisper. “You should ask her to the festival if you’re just buddies. I hear the whole town’s goin’.”
Rindou groaned, though his cheeks turned slightly pink. “I’m not goin’ to no fuckin’ fair, bro.”
“Girls love that shit,” Ran pulled his straw out of the shake to point it towards his brother – who tried in vain to ignore the droplet of shake that was flung into his face. “Wanna win her over? Make her feel special.”
Rindou’s chin jutted out defiantly. “I’m gonna win her over. ‘Jus… trying to figure it all out.”
Ran set his milkshake to the side. “Right,” He hummed, sucking the leftover shake off the straw and popping it into the glass. “Well, when you figure things out, extend your girl an invite. Give her a night to remember.”
Rindou sighed, feeling the resistance melt away from his shoulders. “How about I extend my foot up that ass?”
Ran grinned, ruffling his brother’s hair in what would have regularly been considered an affectionate gesture if Rindou weren’t already at his wit’s end with him. 
“Just lookin’ out for you, bro,” he remarked. “Careful playin’ with fire like that. Too close and you can get burnt.”
“Look out for AIDs,” Rindou huffed. “I hear that’s an epidemic these days. You might be in danger.”
“I’ll keep an eye out for you,” Ran’s grin didn’t even falter. “You should go to that fair anyway. ‘M havin’ my girl over that night.”
“Which one?” The blond rolled his eyes.
Ran sat back in his seat, folding his arms over his chest and releasing a content sigh. “Dunno,” he answered. “I’ll find out when she shows up.”

Rindou had decided that he was going to do it today. He was going to walk up to her and ask if she would attend the festival with him tonight. Inevitably, of course, she would say yes. She would say yes, and she would thank Rindou for offering to go with her in the first place.
“I can’t,” The girl lowered her eyes with a frown. “I’m sorry, Rindou.”
His smile dropped. He shook his head. “What?” He asked.
He didn’t think he heard that correctly.
“I already have a date to the festival,” She added, like he was supposed to know that.
He raised a brow at her as she shut her locker behind her. “Who?”
She looked him up and down, gaze climbing over his shirt that most definitely violated the dress code. “Um, a kid who sits behind me in history class… why?”
“You never told me about that,” Rindou pursed his lips, suddenly very angry at this faceless man. 
She shrugged. You know, like it was casual. “Never came up in conversation. I felt bad saying no… so I told him okay.”
On the outside, he was the image of composure. On the inside, he was clawing at the fucking floor. He looked down the now empty hallway, and then back at her. 
“Cancel on him,” He said.
“What?” Her eyes widened at the proposition. “No, why would I do that?”
“What’s his name?” Rindou asked her, leaning down to get a better look at her face. 
Rather than answering his question directly, the girl looked away, tugging on the sleeves of her sweater. “He wants to walk me home today… if that’s okay.”
His eyes shot wide open. In his gut, a deep, rancid feeling began to bubble. It felt as if a hole had opened up somewhere deep within, boiling his blood and making him squirm. 
Is this jealousy?
He thought about the kid walking her home instead of him. He didn’t like it. Not one bit. That was his thing. 
Still, attempting to keep his cool because that’s what Rindou Haitani did in the face of uncertainty, he licked his lips and nodded, “That’s fine, ‘jus figured I’d ask you. My date bailed.”
That was a lie, of course. There was never a date. He was only trying to soften the blow.
Her words were like a knife into his ego. He thought about her showing up with this… this kid, holding his hand. Would he try any funny business with her? Not like he cared, of course, he just didn’t like someone toying around with something he had very clearly called dibs on.
His comment must have missed its mark on her, as she looked at him with all the sorrow of a child that had just been caught stealing a cookie from the jar. 
“I’m really sorry, Rindou. I can’t just flake on him, that’s not right,” She sighed. “But the ladies love you. I’m sure you’ll figure something out!”
I don’t want them, briefly flashed through his mind. I want you.
“Yeah,” He replied, sucking his teeth. His eyes had already wandered down the hallway. “I’ll figure it out.”

The rush in the hallway had died down a bit after the dismissal bell had rung. There were faint echos of chatter and laughter somewhere down the hall, maybe even in a different wing. Rindou leaned casually against the wall, attempting to blend in with the flow. 
The wounds on his ego were still fresh, the sting of jealousy gnawing at him on the inside. So, when the coast was mostly clear, he seized his chance. He slipped through the classroom door that had been left slightly ajar, steps silent as he made his way to the teacher’s desk.
She was an older woman with grey hair and a colorful sweater on. He recognized her as his brother’s old history teacher… and also from the picture he had snapped of the girl from apartment 12A’s schedule.
That’s all she was. Just some chick from apartment 12A. It hurt a little less when he thought about it that way, though it made it a little difficult to justify his actions.
Her back was turned, but she spun around when Rindou knocked twice on the cool surface of her desk. Her eyes went wide as they locked onto his figure. 
“Boo,” Rindou grinned.
“Haitani, what are you doing here?” The woman’s hand fluttered to her chest. Her breath had already gone ragged. “I already told your brother that there was nothing I could have done about him failing– It was administrative, I swea–”
“I’m not here for him,” Rindou sighed, folding his arms and stepping forward. His eyes scanned the room. “You got a ‘[Y/N] [L/N]’ in here during final period, yeah?”
The teacher’s expression shifted from panic to confusion. Slowly, she nodded, still looking at him like a deer in headlights. 
He tried to play it cool. Like he didn’t already know that after practically memorizing her schedule.
“Where does she sit?” Rindou asked, tone hardly veiling his true intentions.
With a trembling hand, she pointed towards a seat by the window. It was empty, of course, but Rindou still nodded, making a mental location of the seat. He could almost picture her there, the sunlight playing in her hair while she absentmindedly twirled a strand around her finger.
His interest shifted, and he inquired further, “Who’s the kid who sits behind ‘er?”
The teacher seemed a little more at ease with this question, but she was still nervous. Poor thing.
“Behind her?” She trailed off. “That would be that quiet kid… what’s his name… Sato, I think. Black hair, big glasses.”
Her vague description painted a vivid image of Sato in Rindou’s mind, glasses perched on his nose, absorbed in his own little world behind her. He probably fantasized about her, little pervert…
He was the only one who was allowed to do that.
“Thanks,” Rindou nodded his gratitude to her. Before he turned to leave, he hesitated. Slowly, he pivoted back towards the teacher, a glint of mischief dancing in his eyes. “Oh, by the by,” He hummed. “I start this class soon. Figured I should stop by and get to know my teacher-to-be.”
The old woman’s brows shot up in surprise. “Tomorrow?” She thought aloud. “But… you’re not on the roster.”
Rindou’s lips curled up at that. “You should have that fixed,” he replied.
Then he was out the door like nothing had happened.

Rindou’s patience had reached a breaking point. Standing behind the tree he knew far too well – the one he stood before every morning at the same time, his heart pounded. He gazed dutifully at the apartment complex where he knew his target would be around this time.
The school was a 20-30 minute walk. He had left the school around 15 minutes later than the other two had so that he might get there in time to catch the kid coming back.
And there he was, standing no higher than 5’3, exchanging goodbyes with the girl from 12A. His girl from 12A. 
Wait. No, that’s not what he meant.
The door closed. Sato smoothed his hands over the front of his uniform, then stepped away. As the boy returned from her doorstep, an unsuspecting prey. He treaded down the concrete path, turned onto the sidewalk where Rindou was hidden, and approached the tree unknowingly.
Rindou stuck his foot out.
Sato tripped over it, falling to the ground rather unceremoniously, undoubtedly scraping the pale, unblemished skin on his arms and palms. Kid probably never had to defend himself a day in his life.
Today would be a great day for him to start.
Sato’s head jerked to the side, visibly disoriented. Before he could comprehend what had happened to him, Rindou landed his second blow, a kick to his gut that left him gasping for air. 
He was glad he had decided to wear his Doc Martens today.
“The hell are you ‘doin with her, huh?” Rindou’s voice was a low growl, edged with danger. His eyes bored into Sato, aflame with an emotion that bordered on madness.
Once Sato recognized his attacker – and, really, Rindou could see the gears turning in his pretty little head – his eyes went wide. 
“Hait… Haitani?” Sato’s voice was shaky, breathless, words barely forming while he tried to catch his breath. Rindou’s boot struck again, silencing any further attempts at speech.
“How do you know her?” He demanded.
Sato’s glasses now lay a short distance away from him, and he fumbled blindly to retrieve them. Rindou sidestepped, placing his heel on Sato’s wrist and pinning it to the pavement below with a brutality that elicited a yelp from the boy.
“You gone deaf or somethin’?” Rindou tilted his head down at him. “How do you know her?”
He knew exactly how Sato knew her. He would never admit that aloud, though.
“Who?” Sato’s voice quivered with confusion, pain etched over his face.
“The girl whose door you just came from, dumbass,” Rindou’s impatience began to seep through his facade, punctuated by another kick to Sato’s side after he took it off of his wrist. “ How do you know her?”
Sato hurled, arm pressed protectively against the area Rindou had struck. 
“She’s… She’s in my class,” He finally admitted, trembling beneath Rindou in a way that made him feel a lot better about chasing him down. This was always his favorite part. “I thought she was cute, so I…”
Rindou stepped on his back, knocking him back down to earth after he had just gotten onto his hands and knees. “So you asked her out?”
Sato nodded hurriedly.
Rindou’s lips curled up in disbelief. “That was my date, asshole,” He seethed, putting a bit of pressure on his back to keep him down.
He was a squirmy one.
“I’m sorryyyy ,” The kid whined, voice cracking with desperation. “I had no idea, I swear! If I knew I never would have–”
Rindou rolled his eyes at Sato’s excuses. He hated whiners. So much, in fact, that he decided to kick him again. Reaching down, he tugged the boy’s arm up harshly, pressing it against the back of his leg.
One wrong move, and his arm would be broken.
“ Ah –” The nerd grunted, teeth gritted. 
“You’re not going to that festival with her,” Rindou warned him. “You know that, right?”
Sato nodded, peering back at Rindou through pained, teary eyes. “I was stupid, I’m sorry,” he pleaded. “I didn’t know she was your girl– girlfriend.”
Rindou pulled on his arm like a warning. “It’s complicated,” he bit out, control slipping a bit while he gave way to the emotions he felt at the prospect of being claimed as someone’s… boyfriend.
Sato’s breath came in ragged bursts. “I’ll never talk to her again, I swear,” He said.
Rindou’s grip on his arm relented, but only slightly. “You’re gonna stay away from her too. Let me hear you got even three feet close to her–”
“We’re in the same… history class,” Sato noted with a grunt.
Rindou stepped harder on his back in response. 
“Switch classes,” he hissed.
“Okay, Okay!” He cried. “I will! I’ll switch, I swear, please don’t hurt me.”
Finally he dropped Sato’s  shaking arm. “Not a word about this to anyone, got it?” he warned him. “I’ll put you on the side of a milk carton.”
Sato’s head bobbed in frantic compliance. 
The younger Haitani stepped back, and the Sato boy immediately scrambled to his feet. Then, without another word, he fled the scene. Ran as fast as his short legs would take him.
In his absence, Rindou sighed, dusting imaginary residue off of his hands and onto his black zip-up hoodie before going the other way.

Rindou watched the water turn pink as it ran over his battered knuckles. They were a little sore, but it was nothing he wasn’t used to.
Must have hit his glasses, he thought.
He rubbed some soap into the reddened skin and over his palms, rinsing the grime of his sins away beneath the faucet. He turned the current off, shaking his hands dry. Then, after a brief struggle, reached blindly for his glasses and cologne – popping the cap off and spraying a bit on each of his pulse points.
And on his navel. You know, just for good luck.
The sound of Beyonce’s ‘Naughty Girl’ got louder as he walked towards Ran’s bedroom, carelessly leaving the bathroom door open behind him.
He smoothed his hands over his traditional garb – which he had a particular distaste for, although he knew a traditional festival would require traditional attire. It clashed with his usual style, but he was willing to endure it for the sake of his commitment to a cause. 
It flattered the waist he had been working so hard to thin out, though, so that was nice. 
Flexing his arms downward, Rindou hit a pose in the mirror-desk-thing. 
Ran was sprawled out on his stomach behind Rindou, flipping through a glossy magazine from the comfort of his bed. His hair was done up into a messy bun, a few stragglers cascading down the back of his neck and over his plush Walmart robe. He glanced up at the sight of his younger brother’s choice in attire for the evening.
“Is that my Yukata?” He inquired, sucking his teeth and then turning another page.
“Yeah,” Rindou answered. “You said you weren’t going to the festival. Figured you wouldn’t need it.”
Rindou saw his brother’s brow quirk, though he made no effort to tear his eyes away from the page. “You said you weren’t going either,” Ran remarked.
Rather than glorifying him with a response, Rindou pulled out the chair beneath Ran’s… beauty desk? He didn’t really know what those things were called. Anyway, he made himself comfortable on the seat.
“You’re goin’ all out tonight, huh?” Ran teased, rolling onto his back.
Rindou shook his head. Reaching for Ran’s signature eyeshadow pan – the one that he would never, ever admit to using, but for the sake of this story it should be known that he uses a Covergirl single in the shade Onyx  – he popped the case open. He dabbed the little sponge-brush thing into the pan, applying the deep shade to the outer corners of his eyes. He shaped it into a subtle, smokey point, one that added depth to his gaze.
“Don’t get used to it,” he offered, clicking the single shut and setting it off to the side. 
His attention then turned to his damp hair. He reached for a hair tie he had found on the desk and carefully gathered his blond locks into a fistful. With practiced ease, he tied it up and away from the back of his neck. With the side of his pinky finger, he pulled a few strands out to frame his face. 
The Haitani Slut-Strands were making a comeback.
“She say yes to you when you asked ‘er?” Ran asked somewhere behind him.
Rindou smoothed his hands over the semi-slickback ponytail he’d done. “Nah. Some kid beat me to it.”
He could hear Ran turning the page slowly. “You beat his ass?”
“Maybe,” Rindou grinned.
“I feel, like… so proud,” Ran continued anyway. “Like, this is a proud big brother moment for me. ‘Lil bro, going on his first date with his crush… at 17 years old.”
“Not my first date,” Rindou said, even if it technically was. He wasn’t so sure that the random hookups he’d taken on walks to the park counted. 
“Let me have this,” Ran sighed. “What are you waiting on?”
“Her text,” He answered. He knew it was coming. The festival had started an hour and a half ago. It was only a matter of time before she came crying to him about how this kid she had given a chance decided to stand her up and embarrass her in front of the whole town. Only a matter of time before Rindou would swoop in like Superman and save her night.
On cue, his phone buzzed. He took it out of his pocket, turning it on to read the message he had received.
Just now
Pretty Thing: he stood me up :( can u come get me pls
He glanced at it a second time, his smirk deepening. “Looks like I’m needed,” he said, lifting his phone to show his brother the message.
Ran whistled. “This plan seems awfully well-thought for someone who don’t care about this girl.”

okay so i think tan and lemon wouldn't really take school seriously, like they still do well and are very smart but they didn't really pay attention much almost like they were too smart for school
they would sit in the back corner of class and just mess around but honestly the teachers didn't really care because they had good grades
you met the twins due to a class project, it needed to be done in groups of threes and it was your lucky day when the name sorter chose you for the twins!
you didn't mind though having talked occasionally to them in some of your shared classes. they were nice, funny, and smart and so are you
lemon grumbled how he didn't feel like working on it now
"want to come to my house after and we can do it then?"
the twins happily agreed and the three of you goofed off the rest of the period
having spent many hours with the twins you all grew very close and kinda became inseparable in school, you all had the same sense of humor and that drew you to each other
teachers and other students knew that it was no longer the lemon and tangerine duo but now a trio with you
one day during class you desperately needed to use the bathroom and the teacher started to yell at you that you should've went between class period
"if you don't let them use the bathroom i will piss all over your fucking floor," tangerine hissed at the teacher

and no he didn't pee on the floor
while stood in line for lunch tangerine and lemon overheard some guys talking about you
"there's no way the twins are actually friends with them... such a loser, dude."
"gotta be a charity case situation... the twins are way too cool to be friends with someone like that, almost makes them losers too."
tangerine took his empty tray and wacked it across one of the guys heads while lemon sucker punched the other in the nose
"really guys?" you said disappointedly after waiting for them to get out of detention
your hand went up and gently touched the bruise forming around tangerine's eye
"they were talking bad about you! we weren't going to stand there and do nothing!"
"yeah well now you're injured!"
but they didn't care, you were worth every detention and injury they got for defending you
now tangerine, yeah, he is a sap okay. he'd try so hard to play it cool but he failed miserably
absent from school? he wants to go home. paired with someone else? might as well give him a zero now. overheard someone thought you were cute? hell no. walking next to each other in the hallway? yeah his hand touched yours. no space on the couch in your living room? no worries, he's squeezing next to you. you didn't bring lunch? now his is yours. you were upset over a bad grade? he basically ripped his shoulder off for you to cry on it.
if you were instructed to be quiet during class tangerine couldn't take it. he needed to talk to you at all times so without fail you'd feel the slight gush of wind as a folded piece of paper went flying over your shoulder and onto your desk. you'd open the paper to some absolute nonsense that wasn't dire scribbled in pencil but you'd always pick your pen up and responded and drop the note over your shoulder to him.
what sent him over the edge was you getting a flower on valentines day... yeah that's right you had people wanting to be yours and that bubbled a weird feeling inside tangerine... what was it.
"you have a crush, idiot," lemon thumped him on the head.
"no...no? on (y/n), funny... really fuckin' funny. me? having a crush on them? our best friend? there's no way."
lemon would raise a brow at tangerine, picking at his sandwich, "see how you're trying to convince yourself it's not true?"
yep, lemon was right. of course he was. the day the group project started lemon knew the two of you had a small crush on the other.
tangerine felt a tap on his shoulder, "excuse me, this is for you," a girl tapped him on the shoulder.
tangerine and lemon looked at each other bewildered at the flower being placed in front of him. there was a small note folded up with familiar handwriting

It was honestly shocking that an alpha as volatile as Bakugo managed to get such a sweet and kind Omega like (name), he wasn't even a pro hero or anything! He was just a sweet Omega that Bakugo met off duty!
(Name) was shy as he walked into the agency, cutely made dinner boxs as he presented his ID card to the security with a gentle smile, he doesn't come here often but when Bakugo has to be at the agency for a few days (name) liked to make sure he was fed. "Hello again, how are you?" (Name) asked the security guard who led him to the private elevator and swiped the card to activate it "I'm good Mr. Bakugo, yourself?"
"I'm quite alright, my husband isn't giving you all trouble is he? I will beat him up if he does" (name) joked and playfully punched the air, making the guard chuckle "that's quite alright Mr. Bakugo"
Wherever (name) went he always lightened the mood of the room, the delicate Omega cheerful and kind.
The top floor was where bakugos office was along with the pro hero's hired under the Dynamite angency, a few new faces looking at him curiously especially the new secretary infront of his office.
"Do you have an appointment?" She asked in a bored tone, staring at the Omega with disinterest as he wasn't a pro hero he wasn't worth her time "no, I'm here to drop something off" (name) said with a small frown as she stopped him from just going in "Dynamite doesnt like people barging into his office"
"I can promise you he won't get upset, now please let me pass" (name) said because at this point the new secretary was infront of the Omega and despite the scent patches on her neck she was very obviously an alpha just by her stance and the slightly condicending look she gave the Omega.
"Oi! I been calling you on the buzzer for five minutes! The fuck are you--- baby what are you doing here?" Bakugo instantly became calm for his Omega when he noticed his presence "what's going on here? Why didn't you just come in baby"
"You forgot to tell your secretary about your mate" (name) said, not throwing the secretary under the bus because despite her attitude she was just following her orders but he did stare down his husband who just ushered him into the office that was a little messy "I brought you enough food for the next few days and some treats" (name) said softly, moving on from the little mishap as bus alpha led him to the couch and set the food on the coffee table "you didn't have to baby" Bakugo said softly, a complete 180 from his hostile persona he usually held "can't let my alpha starve" (name) said letting Bakugo guide him into his lap when the blond sat down.
Bakugo was unahsamed when he began heavily scenting his mate, nosing his scent gland and mating mark "Alpha...not here" (name) mumbled and Bakugo just nipped at his scent gland "hush pup" he mumbled and went about his nonsense with a shit eating grin.
"YO BAKUBRO! I BROUGHT THE LAST OF THE FI---Oh my" kirishima looked shocked as he took in the bakugos kissing and scenting "FUCK OUT OF HERE SHITTY HAIR!" Bakugo yelled angrily but (name) was already off him and fixing himself up "Hello Eijiro! How are you!" And like that (name) was pretending that he wasn't just caught about to do something inappropriate with his alpha but was very obviously embarrassed "I'm alright! You two seem to be very happy" he teased as he dropped folders onto bakugos desk as (name) just blushed at this and kirishima noticed the food and tried to sneakily go to it "Oi shitty hair! Back off! That's my shit"
"C'mon man! (Name)s food is addictive!"
"I don't give a shit, keep your grubby hands away!"
(Name) smiled at the two best friends bicker, despite his mates harsh words there was no real bite behind them.
The three eventually sat at the couch with their prefered drinks, Bakugo not letting his mate go and serve it claiming since he made food he has to sit his ass down "so is everyone staying for these three days?" (Name) asked curiously and the two heros nodded and (name) looked unimpressed "baby you better be getting them food, they aren't surviving off the food from convenience store I saw down the street" (name) said seriously, staring down his mate and Kirishima wanted to laugh because this little Omega was the only one who could bring the brute that was Bakugo down to his knees with a look.
"...I will have someone order food"
"Every day they have to be here, three meals"
"...yes baby"
Bakugo was whipped for this Omega and everyone agreed it was for the better, (name) balanced him out "thank you baby" (name) said sweetly and kissed his cheek "its getting late, I will make sure you have an escort alright?" Bakugo said gruffly but with no hostility as he scented his Omega one last time "be safe baby" (name) said hugging his alpha before leaving, kirishima noticing he left his sweater deliberately for Katsuki.
Kirishima sighed at this.
He really needed a mate.

You stared at Caitlyn in absolute admiration. The way she stood tall in the face of danger was something worth admiring. For a girl who grew up with the privilege of getting to be weak, she really did prove to be the exact opposite. With one last punch to the gut, Caitlyn flung the injured grown man to the ground. “This was all completely unnecessary and entirely avoidable. Next time a lady says excuse me, you move. It’s what a true gentleman would do.
This all happened because some jerk wouldn’t move out the way while you and Caitlyn were on the way to your place. You lived in the undercity which meant you were very used to people being disrespectful and not caring about their manners. Caitlyn on the other hand, did not take that lightly, at least not when it came to you. When the man turned around to intimidatingly stare down at you instead of simply moving, Caitlyn scoffed before pushing him away. This, of course, led to a physical fight, one that your girlfriend would emerge triumphant to.
“Nice going, babe.” You smiled as she walked back over to you.
“You think?” She asked, genuinely. 
“Yeah, you beat that guy to a pulp.” You said as you reached to grab her bruised knuckles. “And as much as I appreciate you for that, I’d prefer you not to get hurt because of me.”
“Technically, it’s my job. I am an enforcer after all.” Caitlyn said.
“Shhh…” You hushed her, looking around to see if anyone heard her. If people found out what she did for a living they’d definitely have an issue with her being here. Might even try to run her out with pitchforks and torches. “First of all, be careful throwing that word around in the open like that and second of all, you’re off duty.”
“Well, how about my excuse being that I just love you. How about that?” Caitlyn smirked at you.
“Hmm, guess I can’t argue with you on that one.” You pulled her knuckles up to kiss as you stared into her soften blue eyes.
“I think I deserve a little more than that…” Caitlyn suggested.
“You’re right.” You smiled before stopping in front of her to cup her face. “My beautiful and brave girl.” You caressed her cheek with your thumb before pulling her down to place a kiss on her pretty lips. Your lips moved perfectly with hers. Your lips molding in heavenly and different ways over and over again, unintentionally starting a heavy makeout session. 
Your hand sneaked its way down to her waist as you pulled her body closer to yours. “I need you so bad, (Y/N).” Caitlyn whispered up against your lips.
“Then we better hurry. We’re only 4 minutes away from my place, 3 if we run.” You smirked.
“Bet we can make it there in 2 minutes.” Caitlyn challenged you.
“Oh really?”
“I mean, with the right sort of motivation I’m sure we could do it.” Caitlyn caressed your cheek as her eyes moved from your lips to your eyes. Those (Y/C/E) eyes that she loved so much.

Well, lucky for you, I recently met a mind reader in my basement and they told me you want to know this. Buckle up, because we're about to begin a journey into the abyss. Kidding! We are going to the Kingdom of Twistano-Turnano; narratives that'll leave jaws on the floor and minds on some walls. Strap in, grab your favorite snacks and let's get this party started. (I believe that one was too much, right? Coz’ who’s got time for any parties? Or am I the only one missing out?)

What Makes a Good Plot Twist?
Let's kick things off with the basics. A plot twist isn't just about throwing in a random curveball– oh no, it's about shaking up the very fabric of your story. A meaningful plot twist should be a seismic shift in the audience's perception, whether it's through an unexpected event, a shocking revelation, or a philosophical awakening. We're talking external, internal, and philosophical shifts that make the audiences question everything they thought they knew. It's about changing your audience's reality.
The Three Types of Shifts: External, Internal, and Philosophical
The external shift– think unexpected deaths, hidden treasures, and jaw-dropping identity reveals. These twists are all about rearranging plot elements in ways that leave readers gasping for air.
The internal shift– this one's all about messing with your audience's emotions. One minute they're feeling all warm and fuzzy, and the next, BAM! You hit 'em with an event that leaves them shaken to the core. Just make sure to keep things clear, or you'll have a bunch of confused readers scratching their heads.
The philosophical shift– the granddaddy of all plot twists. This one's all about making your audience question their beliefs and perceptions. You take 'em from thinking they've got it all figured out to realize that maybe, just maybe, they've been wrong all along.
To really knock your readers' socks off, you gotta apply all three shifts. That's right, no half-measures here. Using just one or missing one entirely is just going to confuse the shit out of your audiences. Trust me, you don't wanna do that.
What makes a plot twist good?
Shock Value: First things first, a good plot twist needs to pack a punch. We're talking about leaving your readers reeling, jaws on the floor, and minds blown. If it doesn't make 'em gasp, it ain't worth it. The key is to not settle for the first twist that comes to mind. Dig deep, get creative, and find a way to really knock your readers' socks off.
Believability: Sure, we love a good surprise, but it's gotta make sense, ya know? You can't just say that the human we have been following around is a dog disguised as a pizza! Nope, we ain't gone believe that boy. Keep it real. Actually, the real(er) the better. Foreshadowing is your best friend. Drop hints, plant seeds, and lay the groundwork for your twist early on. That way, when it finally hits, it'll feel like a natural progression of the story. (Maybe show me a barking human to make me go along with the pizza dog twist.)
Impact on Characters AND Plot: A truly great plot twist doesn't just shake things up for the sake of it. It needs to have real consequences, affecting not only the characters but the entire storyline. Don't just focus on the shock factor – think about how your twist will affect your characters and your plot. Will it send them spiraling into chaos? Will it force them to confront their deepest fears? Make it count.
Variety in Tropes: Cliched tropes are good but if you can manage to twist it up, that's even better. Try to give us something we've never seen before. Surprise us, delight us, and keep us guessing 'til the very end. But don't be afraid to break the mold. Sure, some tropes are tried and true, but the best twists are the ones that defy expectations. Surprise your readers, challenge their assumptions, and leave 'em begging for more.
Timing: Timing is literally everything. You need to build up to the right moment for that twist like a mastermind supervillain. Keep your readers on their toes. Drop breadcrumbs along the way, build up the tension, ratchet up the suspense, and then hit 'em with that (do-do do-do) twist right when they least expect it. You gotta know exactly when to drop that grenade. Trust me, it'll be worth the wait.
Plot Twist Techniques:
Breadcrumbs: The classic "how did I not see this coming" twist. Make 'em scratch their heads and wonder, "How did I miss that?" Lay the groundwork for your twist by dropping subtle hints and clues throughout your story. It's all about planting those breadcrumbs and watching your readers play Sherlock Holmes.
Misdirection: The good ol' red herring. Lead your readers down one path, only to yank the rug out from under them at the last minute. Get 'em emotionally invested in a particular outcome, then flip the script and watch 'em squirm. Mix this with the breadcrumbs and you have a beautiful pie.
The False Win: Picture this – your characters are riding high, victory is in sight, and then BAM! You hit 'em with the ultimate plot twist: it's not over yet. Give 'em a false sense of comfort, then snatch it away like a cruel twist of fate. 
The Unprovoked: Ever seen a plot twist  that leaves you scratching your head and wondering, "Where did that come from?" That's the unprovoked twist. It happens out of nowhere, catching everyone off guard and leaving 'em reeling. It's unexpected, it's unpredictable, and it's oh-so deliciously twisty.
Types of Twists: The classics
Identity Reveal: Remember the "I am your father" moment? Yes. There's nothing quite like the shock of discovering that a character's true identity isn't what it seems. Whether it's a long-lost twin or a secret agent in disguise, identity reveals never fail to leave readers gasping for air. Mix it up to make it newer and you have an even tastier sandwich.
Motive Reveal: Ever wondered why that one seemingly innocent character was acting so shady? Well, it's time for a motive reveal – the moment when all becomes clear and the true intentions behind a character's actions are laid bare. It's like peeling back layers of an onion, only way more dramatic. (Plot twist: This entire post has been written so you will buy my book, The Sinner and The Scarred from Amazon! Background Reveal: Behind every great character is a great backstory. Well, these backstories can also be great plot twists. (What? The hero's love interest is the villain's child. WHAT? The hero's love interest is the villain! WHAT? THE HERO IS DATING BOTH THE VILLAIN AND THEIR CHILD!!) From dark secrets to hidden traumas, background reveals add depth and complexity to your story.
Character Deaths: Sometimes, the only way to shake things up is by "killing your darlings." Actually, whether it's a beloved hero sacrificing themselves for the greater good or a villain meeting their untimely demise, character deaths are guaranteed to leave readers in shock and awe. Especially when done right. (Set the mood for a fun wedding. Then kill someone at the wedding. Kill the bride. Or the groom. Kill 'em both. Have them kill each other!)
Destruction of Setting or Important Elements: Say goodbye to the status quo, because we're about to shake things up with a little destruction. Whether it's a beloved setting crumbling to the ground or a crucial element of the story being obliterated, destruction twists add a sense of urgency and chaos to your narrative. (Burn your hero's house down. Extra points if their family was still inside. Minus points if their dog was in there, though.)
Timeline Shift: A timeline shift can turn your story on its head, sending characters hurtling through time and space or revealing shocking truths about the past, present, and future. (It will be a weird way to find out you’re adopted, you know?)
Surprising Events in General: Sometimes, you just gotta throw caution to the wind and hit your readers with something completely unexpected. From random acts of kindness to bizarre coincidences, surprising events add an element of unpredictability to your story that'll keep readers guessing until the very end. 
Special Ability Reveal: The moment when a character discovers they've got powers beyond their wildest dreams, things start getting out of hand. Whether it's flying, telekinesis, or the ability to talk to animals, special ability reveals add a touch of magic and wonder to your story.
Do remember when it comes to plot twists, the sky's the limit. But placement is key. Whether it's smack dab in the middle of your story or right at the climax, the timing of your twist can make or break its impact. 
Now, let's touch on what NOT to do. Forced twists? No, thank you. Unbelievable plot developments? Hard pass. And let's not even get started on the dreaded plot armor– nothing kills the vibe faster than a last-minute rescue by bad writing. (Leave a comment if you’d like to learn more about what NOT to do!)

The Summer of Jessica Biel
To celebrate Biel’s being in a movie actually worth seeing, we sent Adam Stein to play carnival games with her.
When I told various friends I’d be interviewing Jessica Biel, I got the responses you’d expect—jealousy, mild rage, a plea to give her a phone number because she’s the one person that a friend’s wife would give him a free pass to sleep with. The uncanny thing is, when I asked these guys what they thought of her as an actress, most of them drew a blank. They hadn’t seen a single motion picture of hers. Okay, one or two had girlfriends who’d brought them to see The Illusionist, but otherwise, nada. As my friend Taj put it: “I’m obsessed with a girl I’ve never seen move.“
Well, that’s about to change. Later this month, men across America will see Jessica being very good in a very funny movie, and the nature of their love for her will…deepen. She’ll still be inhumanly beautiful, sure, but now they’ll have to contend with genuine talent, too, and that one-two punch can be disorienting. You know what else can? The fact that despite her recent tabloid exposure, she’s actually sweet, funny, earnest, occasionally a little crude, and—if my time playing carnival games with her can be used as evidence—uniquely driven to conquer whatever stands between Jessica Biel and what she wants.
I am waiting for her at the Santa Monica Pier, sitting on a stool next to one of those games where you shoot water from a gun into a clown’s mouth. I haven’t shaved for a week, because I read somewhere that Jessica Biel likes guys with beards. I’m inspecting mine in the reflective back of my iPod when a nice-looking young woman materializes in my view. “Excuse me,“ she says. “Are you Adam?“ “Jessica?“ I ask, ridiculously. Of course it’s her, in wraparound sunglasses, an open gray sweater over a white blouse, and faded jeans. She wears checkered Vans, like Jeff Spicoli. On the pier, no one recognizes her, which I suppose makes sense: There’s little resemblance between the pinup girl and the sneaker-wearing civilian out on a Monday afternoon. She doesn’t stick out as we walk the wooden planks of the amusement park; she blends in. She is, you might say, a very chill girl.
“Can we get a photo next to a star?“ she asks, stopping in front of a booth hawking photographs with huge cardboard cutouts of celebrities. It’s an impressive, eclectic array: Bill Clinton, Mini Me, Michael Jordan, Hilary Duff, Enrique Iglesias(!), Jean-Claude Van Damme, DiCaprio in Titanic. “They’re all kind of old,“ she says. I don’t know if she means the cutouts or the celebrities themselves (because to me, Mini Me will never age). She’s only 25 years old, so it could go either way. I ask her who she’d most want to pose with. She scrutinizes the assembly and makes her call: “I’d probably pick Van Damme, ‘cause he looks the coolest.“ She takes the Muscles from Brussels over Leo—a victory of might over sensitivity. Nice.
Then she decides it’s time for the games to begin. She passes up the Riptide Ring Toss (“That one is impossible,“ she says) and focuses her attention on the Pier Plank Plunge. The PPP is basically a rope ladder suspended horizontally over an inflatable mattress. The trick is to climb, perfectly balanced, to a taunting red button placed approximately ten feet away. Press the button, win the prize—an enormous Sonic the Hedgehog. I ask her if she’s ever Pier Plank Plunged before. “Yes,“ she says, assessing the structure, looking for its weaknesses. “But I’ve never been able to achieve it.“ She begins barraging the bored-looking carny with questions. “Do you have any tips?“ (It’s all about balance.) “Have you done it before?“ (Nope.) “Has anyone ever won?“ (Yeah.) “Has anyone won today?“ (Not yet.) She turns to me, and I have to say she seems genuinely excited. “This is our chance,“ she says. “It’s our chance to win.“ I’m beginning to get the distinct impression that winning is important to Jessica Biel. “Ladies first“ being the imperative, I take the initial go-round. It’s harder than it looks. My arms shake. Everything shakes. I can feel her hopefulness—Do it, get there—but I fall off within seconds. The shame is truly surprising. I wanted to do it for Jessica and failed. She throws me a “good try“ before stepping up herself.
Jessica was a gymnast when she was younger, and the training appears to be paying off as she mounts the unstable rope ladder. (It also occurs to me that the view I currently have is one the paparazzi would kill for.) She deploys a disciplined crawl, gets tantalizingly close to the red button, reaches for it—and loses her balance, flips over, and lands flat on the cushion, laughing. “Holy shit,“ she yells. “It’s so hard. That’s so frustrating.“ The carny asks if we’d like to try again. She pauses for a moment, looking at the button, and then, with obvious reservations, demurs. “You were really, really close,“ I tell her. “I know,“ she says, still staring at it, reluctant to move, apparently, without conquering the damn thing. “That’s how it gets you.“
Next up is something called the Hi-Striker, a game in which you swing a mallet to test your strength. I take three feeble swings, each one less successful than the last. A huge Hispanic man laughs every time I bring the mallet down on the metal block, and when I exit the cage and hand it off to the female attendant, she takes one exhibition swing and makes my emasculation complete. Up goes the projectile. Ping goes the bell.
J.B. watches, rapt. “Look at her awesome stance,“ she whispers, absorbing the details, memorizing the motion. Some actors “find“ their characters via a process of internalization—investigating emotions, plumbing psychology, creating an “inner life.“ This is known as the inside-out approach. Other actors work outside-in—developing a walk, a gesture, a physicality. Look at, say, Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby. Look at Jessica Biel in the Hi-Striker cage.
Mimicking the attendant’s, her first swing easily skunks my best effort. And she improves with each attempt. She’s getting into character. As she exits the cage, there’s a look of satisfaction on her face. She returns the mallet to the attendant, who looks at me and says: “She did better than you.“ As we leave, I ask her: “Is it more technique than strength?“ She shakes her head. “Brute strength,“ she says. “You just throw it up and slam it as hard as you can.“ On our way off the pier, we pass Zoltar, the animatronic fortune-teller who turned that kid into Tom Hanks in Big. Zoltar senses us and speaks: “Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved.“ Zoltar makes Jessica smile. She digs his philosophy.
Jessica Biel’s destiny, at least of late, has led her to a prominent place in the trashy supermarket gossip rags. First it was snapshots of social excursions with second-banana studs (Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds). Then, upping the ante, there was a beach fling with a sports icon (Derek Jeter). And then, in February, she grabbed the tabloid brass ring for reportedly nabbing the world’s most eligible bachelor, Justin Timberlake. Unsurprisingly, it’s not something she’ll discuss.
One thing she is happy talking about, though, is the unladylike girth of her knuckles. We’re getting dinner at an unassuming Italian trattoria across the street from the pier when she flashes those meaty joints and describes her nascent production company. “It was almost called Fat Knuckle Films. Because I have fat knuckles. See?“ she asks. “They don’t really look that way until you start putting rings on them, and then it stops right there.“
I have to say, Jessica Biel’s chunky midfingers are endearing, human, attainable—a word she uses a number of times in our conversation, as if to remind the world that she’s just a regular girl from Boulder, Colorado, who happens to have been called, by Esquire magazine in 2005, the Sexiest Woman Alive.
“At first I felt really embarrassed about it,“ she says. “You know, it’s a weird thing to talk about. Like, ‘Hey, guys. Guess what?’ You don’t just go telling everybody that.“ She shifts her weight forward and goes on: “But after I got over that, I just started to embrace it. I started thinking, If I ever do have kids, and if they have kids, I can tell them: ‘You know what? Your grandma in 2000-and-whatever was the Sexiest Woman Alive. How about that, kids?’ That’s what I started to think about. I’ll always have that picture to say, ‘That’s what Granny used to look like.’ “
Before coming out here to get my ass handed to me at the Hi-Striker, I immersed myself in Jessica Biel’s Collected Works. She got her start in the mid-’90s on 7th Heaven, the WB dramedy that made a splash with the moral-values set, before leaving around 2002 for bigger (and badder) things. It’s been a grim scene ever since: Summer Catch (2001), which starred Freddie Prinze Jr. and stands at number forty-nine on Rotten Tomatoes’ 100 Worst- Reviewed Films of All Time. The Rules of Attraction (2002), notable only for Fred Savage shooting heroin between his toes and saying things like “I can feel my dick.“ (Remarkably, Biel comes across as fresh and charming, despite the astonishing pointlessness and nihilism of the flick.) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), which was Biel’s first top billing and is her biggest box-office performer to date, with a take of about $80 million. J.B. screams her head off throughout the movie and is entirely believable in distress, but you can’t help thinking as you watch her, There’s got to be better material than this. Sadly, no. There was an atrocity called Cellular, in 2004, and Blade: Trinity that same year (in which Biel kicks much undead ass as a midriff-baring vampire hunter). But the nadir has to be London, in ’06, a delusional piece of trash that starts off with a sex scene, Biel on top, saying, “Are you coming? Are you coming?“ before she proceeds to another not-quite-dignified act and then dips out of the frame to, presumably, swallow. Like I said, a grim scene.
And then, just in the nick of time, salvation arrived. A script called The Illusionist, to star Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti. There was a problem, though. The filmmakers didn’t want to give Biel an audition. They weren’t convinced the vampire-hunting Hollywood creation could rearrange herself into the role of a refined fin de siècle Hungarian duchess.
But Jessica Biel has a hard time taking no for an answer. And when another actress “dropped out“ of the film, her tenacity paid off. They finally brought her in. She arrived wearing a full period costume. She made them take her seriously, she says, and three days later, an offer arrived.
The Illusionist wasn’t what you’d call a “hit,“ but it got good reviews, made decent money, and changed the industry’s perception of her. Doors that were closed began to open. They just weren’t opening fast enough for her taste.
She sets down her after-dinner tea and says, “I want choices. I want options. I want to lay out all the directions I could go and have the ability to choose. I’m slowly starting to have that now.“ It’s the “slowly“ that kills her.
One film that will almost surely expedite the process is I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, which will be released this month. It stars Adam Sandler and Kevin James as two Brooklyn firefighters who pretend to be a gay couple in order to receive domestic-partner benefits. J.B. plays the female lead, their hoodwinked attorney who falls for Sandler by the end of the picture.
Chuck and Larry is Jessica’s first real shot at popular, mainstream film success. Unlike her previous big-budget endeavors, it doesn’t rely on CGI or fetishistic weaponry to make its points. It is also—apologies to Freddie Prinze Jr. —her first comedy.
“It was a little bit intimidating,“ she says. “I really admire Adam and Kevin, but then, I didn’t try to equal them or one-up them, and the character I created didn’t have to be that. She’s the straight woman, but very fun and very cool and just—attainable. That’s the kind of part that I’d like to play more. I mean, a vampire hunter? Is that really attainable? I’d just like to play something a little more quirky, interesting, outrageous. And uninhibited.“
“You’re not worried that she can do comedy,“ the movie’s director, Dennis Dugan, tells me. “You can tell she can do comedy. So we just met her and cast her. I really think she can have one of those diverse, Oscar-winning careers. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no horizon to her talent.“
The sun has gone down, and we’re standing on the sidewalk in front of the Italian joint, across from the pier. I’m holding a small stuffed Spider-Man doll that Jessica won as a prize back at the amusement park and which she’s given to me to give to my son. I ask what she’s doing tonight, and she says she’s playing chaperone to a girlfriend on a first date. “Basically, I’m her wingman tonight,“ she says. “I’ll probably slip away if it’s rolling along well.“
She graciously agrees to a photograph with me, which I would include except for two reasons: (1) I don’t want to make Justin Timberlake jealous, and (2) you never quite understand how unattractive you are until you see yourself in a picture with Jessica Biel.
I watch her as she walks toward the pier. I know it’s where her car is parked, but I have this image of her heading straight back to the Pier Plank Plunge. The carny won’t know who she is, nobody on the pier will recognize her, and she’ll just hand over her fiver and go at it. That red button, almost within her reach. Attainable.
