Been thinking about a Hitman AU of Arcane.
Caitlyn Kiramman is an elite assassin, and not just because the agency she works for is one of the Kiramman family's many business ventures (though this one is far quieter than the others). Everything is going great - until her handler-with-benefits Maddie is found out to be a spy, leaving Caitlyn's allegiance in a questionable state. She has to be knocked down to a lower level agency until she proves herself again, and to ensure this happens quickly, Cassandra Kiramman puts one of their best handlers to work with her.
Vi, alongside her sister Powder, was raised by the infamous crimelord Silco after he had their uncle and leg guardian Vander falsely sent to prison. They never fully gave in to his manipulative ways - Vander raised them better than that - but they still ended up as a dangerously effective pair of killers when Silco's operation was busted, in part by operatives from the KCD (Kiramman Contract Division). They were given a simple choice then - go away for a long, long time, or put their talents to good use.
Powder slipped right back into the flow of things with her old friend and new handler Ekko, while Vi struggled. Most were ready to toss her out when Powder was looking the other way, but Cassandra Kiramman was never one to give up. She put Vi behind a desk, gave her an earpiece, and the KCD found it's new top handler. Vi was a natural, whip-smart and knowledgeable on the criminal underground.
Vi was nervous that Cassandra herself had hand-picked her to work with Caitlyn after the Maddie situation. But it wasn't all business - Caitlyn, the gorgeous, powerful, and highly skilled daughter of her boss, had caught Vi's eye plenty of times, to the point that it isn't surprising when she's not the most pleasant person to work with. The problem is that the tension between them isn't any weaker for it - if anything, it's stronger, more overwhelming, more effortlessly present in everything from a snarky comment to a longing look halfway across a room.
Caitlyn isn't happy that the first person to make her face flush and her palms sweat in a long time is a former criminal from the bad part of town. But all she has to do is focus on the job, move up the ranks again, and not think about the annoyingly sexy honeyed voice in her ear. How hard could that be?

I really, really want to write a Princess/Dragon AU in which Hermione is a princess and she's for some reason handed off to a dragon (but it's Draco and he's cursed or something). Like I want to write this so bad please.

I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.

after watching several povs, there's something so striking about the way mumbo died.
he dies at home, first of all, which is notable in its own right because so much of his time was spent running about, usually in pursuit of kills. he dies with grian, too— to a thing grian created, no less, but it isn't actually grian's fault for once.
mumbo dies in that tall tower and when lightning strikes, from all across the server, everyone looks. their eyes land on that tower, and everyone is watching. even in grian's perspective, you can see everyone at renwood mound, lined up and staring. those at the bamlands looked on too.
they didn't see mumbo die, but they saw grian's grief. grian, who, throughout this season, has seemed cruel and untouchable to those outside of his circle due to his involvement with and knowledge of the wild cards. they watch grian immediately crumble under the weight of mumbo's death; several of them even explicitly comment, "look at grian, he's grieving, he's in mourning."
i like to think that, until that moment, grian was almost god-like in their minds; now, though, he's the quintessential concept of humanity. grief can be religious if you do it right, after all. even beyond the grian aspect though, isn't this just the most despairing omen of what's to come?
i mean, there's something about this image of a man fallen from grace, crying out as he holds the mangled corpse of his friend in the home they made together, high in the sky, on display for all the world to bear witness to. and the world did bear witness, be it with pity, horror, joy... it doesn't matter, because they saw.
the canary curse has been broken, but this was a fittingly foreboding, tone-setting image that did a stunning job filling its shoes

Batmobile Conversations as Heard by a Fast-food Drive Thru Cashier
Batman: "No."
Red Robin: "But what if -"
Batman: "No."
Red Robin: "But I could -"
Batman: "No."
Red Robin: "What if I -"
Robin: "Cease this Neanderthal behavior at once! You cannot be a Red if you are dressed entirely in Green!"
~*~*~
Red Hood: "You're not my fucking father!"
Batman: "The paperwork says otherwise."
Red Hood: "Fucking where, Bitch! I'll burn them!"
Batman: "You'd still be grounded and for even longer if you did."
~*~*~
Batman: "Please tell me you have a Signal action figure now?"
Drive Thru Cashier: "I'm afraid Riddler high jacked the truck they were supposed to be on. We haven't got any in yet."
Batmn: *long heavy sigh* " Of course he did."
~*~*~
Red Hood, driving the batmobile for some reason: "I need 10,000 of one of literally anything you carry other than the Night Wings. I literally don't carry what it is."
Signal: "And one order of Robin Nuggets."
Red Hood: "And one order of Robin Nuggets. We Are Robin limited edition version if you have it."
~*~*~
Nightwing, driving the batmobile for some reason: "I need 6 orders of Night Wings, please."
Red Robin: "There are only two of us? And I don't want Night Wings?"
Nightwing: "Nah, that just cause Hood's trying to steal my lead. I'll get you anything you want other than the Caped Crusader Sandwhich though."
~*~*~
Batman: "No, you may not borrow the Batmobile."
Robin: "It's a right of passage!"
Batman: "You are too young to have earned that right yet."
Spoiler: "Ha! He called you a baby!"
~*~*~
Spoiler, driving the batmobile for some reason: "Do you guys have any glitter?"
Drive Thru Cashier: "Ma'am, this is a fast food restaurant."
Spoiler:
Spoiler: "How many packets of ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise can you legally give me?"
Drive Thru Cashier:
Drive Thru Cashier after checking with the manager: "50 packets of each."
Spoiler: "I'll take them!"
~*~*~
Robin, driving the batmobile clearly without permission: "I require 2 Robin Meals. One vegan."
Superboy the 2nd: "Oh! I want a Red Hood toy!"
Robin: "What?! Absolutely not! We will take the current Robin toy! A Nightwing if that's not available!"
Superboy the 2nd: "NOOO! I WANT RED HOOD!"
Red Hood, apparently in the back seat of the batmobile: "Dear God. MAKE IT 4 ROBIN MEALS, PLEASE, ANS GIVE THEM BOTH WHAT THEY WANT SO THEY SHUT UP."
Superboy the 2nd happily: "As long as I get my Red Hood."
Robin grumbling: "Ridiculous. Stop acting so thirsty for it."
Red Hood: *strangled, choking noises*
Superboy the 2nd: *mortified squeal* "ROBIN! That is NOT what that MEANS!"

When Mabel comes out to Stan, she’s really scared that he’s going to reject her and have an issue with it, so she’s emotional and asks him if he still loves and supports her and he’s just like “??? Kid I’ve been telling you all summer I’m one of the LBTGs” and then it’s her turn to be like “wait what??” because she thinks he had never mentioned a sexuality before, and it turns out Stan had been constantly telling the kids that he’s “ambidextrous” because he thought it meant the same thing as bisexual.

because sometimes there are invisible tests and invisible rules and you're just supposed to ... know the rule. someone you thought of as a friend asks you for book recommendations, so you give her a list of like 30 books, each with a brief blurb and why you like it. later, you find out she screenshotted the list and send it out to a group chat with the note: what an absolute freak can you believe this. you saw the responses: emojis where people are rolling over laughing. too much and obsessive and actually kind of creepy in the comments. you thought you'd been doing the right thing. she'd asked, right? an invisible rule: this is what happens when you get too excited.
you aren't supposed to laugh at your own jokes, so you don't, but then you're too serious. you're not supposed to be too loud, but then people say you're too quiet. you aren't supposed to get passionate about things, but then you're shy, boring. you aren't supposed to talk too much, but then people are mad when you're not good at replying.
you fold yourself into a prettier paper crane. since you never know what is "selfish" and what is "charity," you give yourself over, fully. you'd rather be empty and over-generous - you'd rather eat your own boundaries than have even one person believe that you're mean. since you don't know what the thing is that will make them hate you, you simply scrub yourself clean of any form of roughness. if you are perfect and smiling and funny, they can love you. if you are always there for them and never admit what's happening and never mention your past and never make them uncomfortable - you can make up for it. you can earn it.
don't fuck up. they're all testing you, always. they're tolerating you. whatever secret club happened, over a summer somewhere - during some activity you didn't get to attend - everyone else just... figured it out. like they got some kind of award or examination that allowed them to know how-to-be-normal. how to fit. and for the rest of your life, you've been playing catch-up. you've been trying to prove that - haha! you get it! that the joke they're telling, the people they are, the manual they got- yeah, you've totally read it.
if you can just divide yourself in two - the lovable one, and the one that is you - you can do this. you can walk the line. they can laugh and accept you. if you are always-balanced, never burdensome, a delight to have in class, champagne and glittering and never gawky or florescent or god-forbid cringe: you can get away with it.
you stare at your therapist, whom you can make jokes with, and who laughs at your jokes, because you are so fucking good at people-pleasing. you smile at her, and she asks you how you're doing, and you automatically say i'm good, thanks, how are you? while the answer swims somewhere in your little lizard brain:
how long have you been doing this now? mastering the art of your body and mind like you're piloting a puppet. has it worked? what do you mean that all you feel is... just exhausted. pick yourself up, the tightrope has no net. after all, you're cheating, somehow, but nobody seems to know you actually flunked the test. it's working!
aren't you happy yet?

one of my favorite brands of Jason and Tim angst is when Jason realizes that Bruce had been treating Tim like his replacement, not as Robin, but as Jason
Robin's a mantel, a mask that gets passed down from one brother to the next
Jason is a person. full stop.
just,,, something about making Jason's thinking shift from "Bruce replaced me by getting another son" to "Bruce found a kid that looks like me and he acts like the kid is me"
and Jason trying to bring this up with Tim, who knows better and expects worse just replying "at least, now that you're back, he's stopped calling me by your name"
and Jason is like "no, no, you should be asking so much more from him; this is Batman for god's sake"
"yeah" Tim agrees "I asked him to keep me around even though he doesn't need me any more. he seemed to be fine with the idea"
"need you? tim that's a fully grown adult he doesn't need you to do anything for him"
and Tim just gives him a you haven't seen the half of it look and Jason remembers that technically he's right
tim didn't need to do anything, he needed to be someone. and now that Jason is back, he doesn't need to be anyone anymore
but how much of himself did he lose trying to become someone else?

I have another idea for a fic...it's an AU that literally no one ever asked for, but it's been living rent-free in my head.

Okay someone needs to write about this, you know those neglected batfam reader stories?? Hear me out on this…
You’ve grown up with the batfam, an accidental one night stand your mom had with Bruce, she died (as one does) and you get sent to live with your father Bruce.
It takes a bit but you quickly get used to being ignored after years of it happening. It’s more like you are a stranger to all of them, you were a regular civilian so you couldn’t relate to their secret bat duties, I mean when your entire family fights crime but you, you’re gonna miss out on bonding opportunities.
As you get older you spend time out of the house more, nobody cares cause nobody gives a fuck. And the more you get older the longer you spend outside, 1 day, 3 days… 1 week…. 5 months, 1 year etc.
Until one day you come back after 2 years, 8 months pregnant. Hell breaks loose.
“What’s that?” Damian says pointing to your very obvious pregnancy bump scrunching his face up confused.
“An alien, no use your head. What does it look like?” You reply annoyed, everyone is staring at you like you’re some sort of alien that just started speaking English. To be fair, it was kind of like you were. A male dominated family, where only the father was the only one bringing home biological and nonbiological children left and right, now all of a sudden you come home pregnant? That’s probably pretty alien to them.
“Listen I’m only here because I had a fight with my husband.” You sigh before Dick squeaks out “HUSBAND?” Like that was the most shocking situation.
Actually the most shocking part was who your husband and the baby’s father is, which you deliberately avoiding telling them about him. Until one night your husband breaks into the Wayne residence determined to win his lover back. 🤭
Edit: still a free prompt however!! I just want to add the official start of my version of this prompt is here!!! Go check it out!

Success is Dependent on Secret Information
A lot of career success depends on you and the work you put into it, as well as luck beyond your control, but sadly, it also depends on secret information, magic words, and stupid little tricks.
That's not fair. I don't like it, but we can help by sharing that secret information--which is the antidote to gate-keeping. That's why I recently wrote this in my Authors of Nonfiction Books in Progress substack:
Tumblr media
It can be really disheartening to realize that, when you thought you failed at something because you didn't do well enough, other people had the magic words. For instance, some injustices I've witnessed (that may or may not always be the case, or maybe not anymore!) include:
A good athletic score doesn't get you into a college sport--having a coach or parent talk to the college coach is mandatory
Many school-sponsored scholarships are often not tightly linked to grades, test scores, or financial need, but whether the student said the right words ("I can't afford that") to the right person (presumably some financial office person.)
Apparently, some aspects of some degrees are cheated on by most students (if that's the case, we should tell all students that it's ok to cheat on that so they don't waste their time on something that apparently wasn't important anyway, or worse, fail out just for being ethical.)
Especially related to books: Few people will mention that you can get grants! Not my agent, not my publisher, not the 1 zillion "pros and cons of trad publishing" articles out there mentioned grants (Grant eligibility is a HUGE benefit of trad publishing.) I got more money from grants than my entire book advance!
Let me know what magic words/secret knowledge you've learned, that you wish you knew sooner. Or: the widespread understanding of what information would make a field more fair?
And please share ANBIP with anyone writing, publishing, or seriously about to start writing, a nonfiction non-memoir book, especially if they're interested in the more practical side (I share more about resources and strategy than craft.)
