A Comprehensive Guide to Kiya Learning’s Singapore Math Curriculum: Fun and Effective Classes for Preschool to Grade 12
Tumblr media
At Kiya Learning, we are proud to offer a comprehensive Singapore Math curriculum that makes learning enjoyable and effective for students from preschool through high school. Whether your child is just beginning their mathematical journey or preparing for advanced topics in secondary school, our program is designed to foster a deep understanding of mathematics through engaging and innovative methods.
What is Singapore Math?
The Singapore Math curriculum, developed in the 1980s, has earned global recognition for its structured, visual, and hands-on approach to learning math. It emphasizes conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking, setting it apart from traditional math curricula. The program integrates a “concrete, pictorial, abstract” learning approach, which ensures students grasp core concepts thoroughly before moving to higher levels of abstraction.
Core Principles of Singapore Math
Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) Approach: This progressive method starts with concrete objects, moves to pictorial representations, and finally leads to abstract concepts. This step-by-step process helps students build a strong mathematical foundation.
Problem-Solving Focus: Singapore Math emphasizes solving complex word problems, helping students think critically and develop strategies rather than relying on rote memorization.
Mastery Over Memorization: Instead of moving quickly through topics, students focus on mastering each concept before progressing. This leads to a deep and lasting understanding of mathematics.
Bar Modeling Technique: A visual tool unique to Singapore Math, bar modeling helps students break down word problems into solvable parts, making even complex problems easier to understand.
Benefits of Learning Singapore Math Online with Kiya Learning
Kiya Learning brings the best of Singapore Math directly to students online, offering flexibility, convenience, and a personalized approach. Here’s why online learning with us is so effective:
Personalized Lessons: Our online platform tailors lessons to each student’s needs, ensuring they progress at their own pace.
Interactive and Fun: Engaging tools and activities keep students motivated and excited about learning math.
Expert Instructors: Our experienced teachers are well-versed in the Singapore Math methodology, offering guidance and support to ensure student success.
Flexible Scheduling: Online learning allows students to access lessons anytime, from anywhere, making it easy to fit math into their busy lives.
Singapore Math Curriculum Breakdown by School Levels
Elementary Level (Preschool to Primary)
At the elementary level, Singapore Math introduces young learners to the basics of numbers, shapes, and patterns. Preschoolers are guided through fun, hands-on activities that develop their understanding of number sense and problem-solving. As students progress to primary school, they delve deeper into topics like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, laying the groundwork for more complex concepts.
Preschool: Play-based learning that introduces counting, shapes, and simple addition.
Primary Grades (1-5): Focus on mastering the four basic operations, fractions, and basic geometry. Problem-solving and bar modeling are introduced.
Secondary Level (Middle School)
In secondary school, students build on their solid foundation, tackling more advanced mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry, and probability. The Singapore Math approach ensures that they can understand and apply these concepts to real-world problems, making them better prepared for higher-level mathematics.
Lower Secondary (Grades 6-8): Introduction to algebra, geometry, and more complex problem-solving techniques.
Upper Secondary (Grades 9-10): Deeper exploration of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics, preparing students for high school mathematics.
High School (Grades 11-12)
At the high school level, Singapore Math prepares students for university-level mathematics and beyond. Topics such as advanced algebra, calculus, and statistics are covered in a way that promotes deep understanding and analytical thinking. This stage focuses on refining students' problem-solving skills and applying mathematical concepts to real-world situations.
Key Characteristics of Singapore Math
Fewer Topics, Greater Depth: Unlike traditional curricula that cover many topics in a year, Singapore Math focuses on fewer topics but goes into much more depth. This ensures mastery of each concept.
Focus on Mental Math: Students are encouraged to develop mental calculation skills, enhancing their ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
Real-World Application: Singapore Math teaches students to apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations, fostering both understanding and relevance.
Consistent Review: Regular revision of previous topics ensures that students retain their knowledge and are able to build on it as they progress.
Why Choose Kiya Learning for Singapore Math?
At Kiya Learning, we believe in making mathematics both fun and effective. Our Singapore Math curriculum is designed to engage students, challenge them, and ensure they not only learn math but love it. Whether your child is in preschool or preparing for university, our comprehensive online classes provide them with the skills and confidence to excel in math—and in life.

Friends to Lovers (School Edition) Prompts
The Best Friend Who Knows Too Much ╰ They’ve been friends since primary school. They’ve seen each other in braces, bad haircuts, and full-on emotional breakdowns over math tests. Now they’re teenagers. And things are
shifting. Lingering looks. Accidental touches. One of them falls first. The other realizes way too late.
Study Buddies and Something More ╰ They’ve always studied together. Always. Every test, every exam season, every quiet library moment. But this time, they’re sitting a little closer. Laughing a little longer. And when one of them falls asleep mid-flashcard session, the other catches themselves staring way too long.
“Fake Dating” for Prom... but Make It Personal ╰ They agree to fake date to make someone else jealous (obviously). They already act couple-y, so it’s no big deal. But after the third “pretend” hand-hold and one too many “fake” compliments, something real breaks through. And neither one knows how to put it back.
Late-Night Phone Calls & Secret Sharing ╰ It starts as a joke “Call me if you’re dying during the homework.” But then the calls keep happening. 1AM convos about dreams, fears, their futures. The line between “friend” and “something else” starts blurring somewhere between midnight and sunrise.
One-Bed Trope... But It’s a School Trip ╰ They get stuck sharing a room on a class trip (because of course they do). One bed. One shared blanket. And one realization that maybe this thing they’ve always had? It was never just friendship. Oops.
Locker Notes & Lingering Feelings ╰ They’ve always left each other dumb little notes in their lockers—jokes, doodles, inside references. But one day, one of them writes something real. And then pretends it was a joke. And the other one spends the whole day wondering if it meant more. (It did.)
The Protective Idiot ╰ He’s always looked out for her, scaring off bullies, sharing snacks, defending her in arguments. But lately, he’s not just protective, he’s possessive. And jealous. And confused. Because he doesn’t know when “you’re my best friend” turned into “you’re mine.”
The Moment They Realize Everyone Else Already Knows ╰ They’re best friends. Nothing more. Right? Right. Except literally everyone keeps asking when they’re finally going to get together. And they keep denying it
until one of them wonders why it stings every time the other one flirts with someone else.
The School Newspaper Love Confession (Oops) ╰ One writes an anonymous “love letter” for the Valentine’s edition of the school paper. It’s poetic. Personal. Honest. The other reads it. Knows immediately. Doesn’t say anything. Not yet. But their next conversation has a lot of weird, warm tension neither of them expected.
The Slow Burn to Absolute Devastation ╰ They’ve been friends forever. They almost kissed once. But they didn’t. Now one of them is dating someone else. The other one’s trying to be happy. But every moment together feels like a ghost of what could’ve been, until one of them breaks, and says, “It’s always been you.”

CHAPTER 03 — there's something about normal
wc — 595
prev — masterlist — next
Tumblr media
The following week passed like any other.
You dragged yourself through lectures, half listened to announcements, and tried not to fall asleep during math class while Jay dramatically whispered answers behind you. Lia had started keeping a tally of how many times he got caught. He was already at six.
It wasn’t glamorous. It wasn’t chaotic. It was just
school. But something about it felt a little different this time.
Maybe it was the way Jake kept tossing glances over his shoulder during classes like he was about to say something but never did.
Or how Sunghoon lingered outside your classroom a little longer than usual when you’d leave for lunch, even though his next class was on the opposite side of the building.
Maybe it was you. Maybe you were reading too much into things. Still, normal wasn’t bad.
You found yourself leaning into the routine. Morning walks with Lia, shared notes, fries in the cafeteria, Jay’s voice echoing through the halls whenever he saw someone he knew, which, of course, was everyone.
“Do you think he ever stops talking?” you mumbled one afternoon as Jay was halfway through a passionate monologue about the superiority of crunchy Cheetos over puffy ones.
Lia cackled. “He thinks he’s a philosopher.”
“Of snacks.” Jake sat beside you, munching popcorn from the vending machine. “Don’t look at me. He’s been like this since birth.” “Don’t slander my snack theories,” Jay shot back from across the table. “One day you’ll all realize I was ahead of my time.”
“I’m realizing something else,” Sunghoon muttered, flicking a piece of popcorn at him. Lia sighed dramatically. “And this is why we have no peace.”
Still, as much as you all complained, there was comfort in it. The dumb jokes, the little rituals, Sunghoon stealing Jake’s pens on purpose, Jay always walking you home when you stayed late for extra credit, Jake singing badly in the hallway just to make you laugh.
No one talked about how tight knit the five of you had become. But it was obvious in the way your table was always full, in the way you all moved in a rhythm without thinking.
Sometimes you caught people staring. A few whispers here and there.
“Why’s she always with them?”
“Is she dating one of them?”
“They’re always around her
”
It never really bothered you. You were used to it. You’d grown up next to Sunghoon’s house. Jay’s mom was your mom’s hairdresser. Jake used to share his lunchbox with you in primary school when you forgot yours.
Still, it stung sometimes, those assumptions, those looks.
You weren’t dating anyone. You didn’t even think they saw you like that.
Right?
Lia noticed the shift in your expression one day while you were walking home. “You good?” You shrugged. “Just thinking.” “About the stares?”
You didn’t say anything.
She nudged you with her elbow. “People are always going to talk, Y/N. But you know what’s real.” You did. You thought you did.
And yet... when Jake had leaned a little too close while showing you a meme earlier that day, or when Sunghoon had brushed a loose strand of hair behind your ear during lunch, you didn’t even know why it made your heart do that weird little skip.
Maybe you were just overanalyzing. Maybe it was just hormones. Maybe it was something more.
But you pushed it all down. You weren’t about to be that girl who caught feelings just because your friends were sweet sometimes.
They were just that, your friends. And that was enough.

Brothers Helping you through with exams
A/N: I'll get a better format soon guys trust. My own exams are coming up and I'm honestly worried for it </3 Not a very fun time guys. Writing to cope. ((Characters may be OOC again, apologies!!))
L U C I F E R One of the best brothers to choose if you need help with studying. He'll gently go through any topics you're stuck on. Even if you think you're taking awhile to understand the topic, he's willing to keep explaining it until you manage to understand it.
He probably has observed how you study best in, the best way you take in your information. If it's more on the visual sides, he'll take out a notebook and go over it with you. If it's more listening he'll make sure his words can be understood.
He knows with the new school and array of new subjects that it can be hard for you, even if you've been doing fine before and it's only now you're struggling? He doesn't mind at all. What matters to him is that you tried you're very best.
He gets a massive sense of pride when you pass the exams after his help, but of course in the end you were the one who did most of the work. He merely just helped
M A M M O N Contrary to what many people believe, I think he'd be very helpful. At the very least helping with your maths. He excels at that subject compared to others and he's more than willing to help his human. But only because you wanted his help, it's not like he's secretly happy to be spending time with you.
He'll be decent help with other subjects but there's likely better brothers to ask. But for maths? He's one of the best to help you, there's a reason he can easily do sums in his head and he's willing to teach you how he does it. Of course there's a likely chance you won't get as fast as him (If you do, he's gonna be so giddy) but he's happy enough to take the more traditional way. Pen and paper out, here's how you do it.
When you pass the subjects he can't help but spin you around, he's so happy for you!!Thank him for the help, it may seem like your thanks doesn't affect him but if you continue on he'll be a blushing mess. He's only doing what he should y'know!!
L E V I A T H A N He didn't care too too much about the exams, I mean yeah he's studying but he's off to read the rest of the manga he's been reading. However if you come to him personally for help? He'll drop any free time to help you. Similar to Mammon, he definitely excels at certain subjects more than other ones. And that would be his primary focus.
He'll try not to show it but he's so happy that out of all his brothers you asked him to help. Like are you sure? There's probably better people to choose...you'd study better with him? Oh MC you're gonna burst his heart.
He instantly tries to see how you did first. He'll be so happy if you passed, even if it was higher than him. He'll push his envy away for you, seeing your genuine happy face when you pass and thanking him is almost enough to make him forget.
S A T A N Another one of the best choices if you need help with the actual studying, his room likely has books upon books of the subject you need the most help with. He'll lend you some of them to read and depending on the book answer questions from then after a week or so he'll check in.
See where your strengths lie and where it falls, work primarily on what you've been struggling with while maintaining your strengths. Don't worry about making him mad if you seem to be taking a bit to understand something. Everyone learns at different pace, even if it may annoy him. He'll never let that annoyance consume him when he's helping you.
When you happily show him you've passed the classes and offer to do something for him as thanks? He's ready to turn down the offer, claiming that helping you and seeing you smile was enough...unless he hears that you'll take him to a cat café.
A S M O D E U S One of the best brothers to help you relax. Yes studying is important, but so are you darling!! You can't really expect him to let you study 24/7 right? It'll be bad for the skin!! Put your books down and relax with him, he'll take you out too the spa.
He knows you're worried, but unfortunately constant studying isn't going to help as much as you may think MC!! Remember, breaks are important as well. It'll improve your memory, besides. He recalls Satan briefly mentioning humans can only take in a certain amount of information without a break.
Once you do pass, he's already taking you out for another spa trip! You deserve it for all your hard work after all. What's that? He's already taken you out on 5 this past week? Hey it calms your nerves! Isn't that what matters?
B E E L Z E L B U B Makes sure you're eating, he doesn't want you to miss out on dinner, lunches ect just because you prioritized your studying over food. He'll be gentle with it though, a small knock on your door as he waits to be called in before placing the tray of food next to you. Gently urging you to take a break and get your energy up.
Infact, he might not even leave until he sees the books put away and you happily chewing on the food. He'll stay a bit longer just to make sure you eat it all and don't immediately go back to studying. If you really want him too, he's happy to try and quiz you! Just give him the notes.
He's already made reservations for your favourite restaurant when your exams finished. it doesn't matter if you pass or fail, you tried right? That's what he cares about, he's happy for you no matter what.
B E L P H E G O R Another brother who'll help better with relaxation than studying. But similar to Asmo again, you do need it. Sleep is key, and he's not even trying to be bias about this. Ask Satan if you don't believe him. So if it's late at night and he hears you still scribbling away? He's quick to come int your room and drag you to bed.
If you're really desperate? He might be inclined to give you dreams based on what you're doing. Big might, he wants to help on the one hand but on the other, he'd rather you not be haunted by the exams even in sleep.
When you happily exclaim that you passed? He gives you a subtle smile, claiming that "see, sleep does help" before announcing that to repay him, you'll give him cuddles for the whole day
.
.
.
Good luck with anyone also doing exams soon!

After the math pope, we have a math president
From the Wiki page of Nicușor Dan, the new president of Romania:
He won first prizes in the International Mathematical Olympiads in 1987 and 1988 with perfect scores.[3] Dan moved to Bucharest at the age of 18 and began studying mathematics at the University of Bucharest.[4] In 1992, he moved to France to continue studying mathematics: he followed the courses of the École Normale SupĂ©rieure, one of the most prestigious French grandes Ă©coles, where he gained a master's degree. In 1998 Dan completed a PhD in mathematics at Paris 13 University, with thesis "Courants de Green et prolongement mĂ©romorphe" written under the direction of Christophe Soulé and Daniel Barsky [de].[5][6]
Tumblr media
Dan's 1988 gold medal also means he was one of eleven contestants to get full marks on the infamous Problem 6, a question so difficult that nobody on the IMO problem committee could solve it.
His personal website lists his primary area of research as Arakelov geometry, a method of studying Diophantine equations from a geometric point of view.
His thesis, in the same field.
His arXiv.

Maybe childhood hc of the boxers (idk if this a weird req )??
It's not weird at all! Childhood hc's coming up + you can find more about their origins in my AU :>
Glass Joe đŸ‡«đŸ‡·đŸ„
- Lived with his mom, dad, and his uncle, Gabriel (aka Gabby Jay). All his guardians all worked for very long hours (since living in Paris is pricey)
- His mom (Celine) and dad (Dion) were barely in his life because of it; Gabby was his primary caretaker
- Gabby was basically his best friend since he didn't have a lot as a child
- Has had asthma his whole life and was never ever good at sports or PE. (Bro does not smoke in this AU lmao)
- He's actually very smart! Loved writing and math, and is one of the few boxers that was able to go to college
- Some of his best childhood memories are with Gabby, whether it be going to see a play with him, or learning how to bake with him... they were insanely close.
- Went through a small emo phase when he was 13. He's still very embarrassed about it to this day.
Von KaiserđŸ‡©đŸ‡ȘđŸ”©
- Grew up in two different homes... for least part, he grew up with his ultra caring, ultra sweet single mom (named Emilia)... or for the most part, he grew up with his ultra strict, bigoted, and cruel grandparents (Agnes and Leopold)
- His grandparents are where his adulthood trauma stems from. They were horrible... as early as 6 years old, Kaiser was forced to cook, clean, have his bed made at 5 in the morning before school... that sorta thing.
- They punished hard, too. Name any outdated or cruel punishment towards a child, and they've probably done it. Screaming at him, breaking toys, locking him in the attic... and, of course, physical violence. Belt or hand, take your pick.
- Kaiser actually has a small premenant burn on his bottom left hip. It was when Agnes burned him with a hot pan as a kid... if anyone asks about it, he'll lie and quickly tell you it's a birthmark.
- Growing up with them, especially with his grandfather, he was taught to always bottle his feelings. This led him to being very social distant, both in school and when he eventually enrolled in technician school.
- His mom was pretty cool, though. She was an engineer (later an amputee, long after Kaiser moved out of Germany) and did her best to provide for her and her son. Because she had no other relatives and she didn't want Kaiser staying home alone every day (her job is very time demanding), she had to send him to live with his grandparents often.
- If his grandparents were alive today, they'd def be tweaking tf about Kaiser getting with not only a man but a French man.
Disco Kid đŸ‡șđŸ‡ČđŸ•ș
- Omg a childhood that isn't completely sad???
- Lived a comfortable, upper middle class with his mom (Zuri), his radio host dad (Kenneth), and his little sister, April.
- Naturally a very active child! He's been in and out of multiple sports, but dancing was by far his favorite.
- Also very close to his mom and adopted her love for disco and the 80s in general. They boxercise regularly together, and sometimes April will join them
- Certified prom king expert! The dude has completely owned every single school dance he's been to. This made him a popular kid with plenty of friends growing up.
King Hippo 🏝🩛
- Not much to say! Hippo was born an adult. He was a full-blown adult hippo before getting mutated into a human-hippo being. (See my AU for details)
- Has very few memories of his time on Hippo island... he just knows he was the leader of them, though.
Piston Hondo: đŸ‡ŻđŸ‡”đŸ„Š
- Lived with his mom (Michi), his dad (Ryu), and his twin sisters, Aki and Aiko.
- Always busy. If he's not at school, he's most likely working at the family restaurant, called "Heart of the Hondo's, as a cook.
- Parents were strict but not outwardly abusive. They raised him right! Taught him responsibility, respect, discipline... everything that he is today.
- Aki and Aiko are little Aran Ryan level menace's... Hondo had to take care of them and make sure they never got into any trouble most days.
- Childhood friends with Heike Kagero ever since grade school.
- Very quiet, non-social kid, and mainly hung out with Heike. If he's not working or at school, he'd spend his time watching anime (mainly Sailor Moon) or reading manga. His sisters loooved teasing him about his love for Sailor Moon...
Overall, pretty good childhood! He has a lot of nostalgia for his childhood, too.
Bear Hugger đŸ‡šđŸ‡ŠđŸ»
- Didn't have a very great relationship with his folks... at least not until his teen years, that is.
- His father (Caleb) was a big name hunter, and his mother (Elanor) specialized in taxidermy.
- They lived in a rural community in Salmon Arm, Canada.
- They weren't really mean or horrible people, but they didn't know Bear didn't agree with their actions... mainly because Bear never confronted them. At all.
- Got very rebellious as a teen and ran away from his folks one night with his squirrel, Spruce. To this day, his parents seriously think he got kidnapped or something, and nowadays, they actually have no idea Bear is a boxer now.
- Spent his whole childhood with Spruce and other animals. Ever since he was 4 years old, animals just had a natural gravitation towards him.
- Never saw his grieving parents again.
Great Tiger 🇼🇳🐯
- Legit doesn't remember his childhood well.
- He imagines it was pretty mundane and routinely.
- Thinks he had a childhood pet...? He could be wrong, though.
Don Flamenco đŸ‡ȘđŸ‡žđŸ„€
- Lived in a middle class home with his mom (Lucia) and his dad (Juan)
- His mom was VERY dotting and protective... girl would throw a shoe at you if you accidentally looked at her son the wrong way. She bragged about him a lot too. Girl definitely wore the pants in her relationship.
- Ofc, even if Don's mother was clingy and protective of her "sweet baby angel" son, it didn't stop a certain blonde tourists parents from convincing her to let Don leave Spain...
- In terms of childhood, Don was a very popular kid for how social he was. He wasn't a particularly behaved student though.
- Definitely became a jock in his team years, sporting a large male friend group.
- Loved by his community, especially after his dad introduced him to the matador business at a young age.
- Smaller hc here, but was definitely on a swim team. Idk, I feel like that'd be a thing.
- Even smaller hc; Lucia is actually Latina (from Columbia), and his dad is a native Spaniard. This makes Don mixed race, technically :3
Aran Ryan 🇼đŸ‡Ș😈
- Lived in the outskirts of Dublin with his father (Oscar), his 6 younger siblings, including the one was closest to the most, a year younger sister named Brooke.
- Grew up on a small sheep farm, with lots of responsibilities, similar to Hondo. He looked after his siblings, his siblings did farm work, and his father fed them that night. That's how it worked.
- Was homeschooled
- Fought with Brooke a lot, except he was always the instigator. Brooke was a sharp contrast to his personality, being an intellectual and a stickler for rules and safety.
- On again off again relationship with his dad. Some days and nights were awesome, but some nights and days were awful...
- His dad was a hard punisher, and he wasn't afraid to spank or use the belt. He also definitely played favorites with all of the siblings.
- Rowdy sibling, and got into trouble the most. Either that or his dad couldn't handle his adhd.
- Runs away during hard fights, either to a local pub or into a sheep pen
- Had this small childhood toy, a stuffed lamb he named "lucky," that he sleeps with every night... and to this day!
Soda Popinski đŸ‡·đŸ‡șđŸŸ
- Grew up in a small, low-income community with his mom (Petra), his hard working dad (Grigory), and his short older sister named Svetlana.
- Absolutely adored child. Basically friends with all his neighbors, and was known as this gentle, soft-spoken giant.
- Naturally very tall kid
- Him and Svetlana were nearly always on the same wavelength, it was almost scary at times. They were basically besties
- Worked as a box carrier alongside school
- Parents are humoursly short compared to him. Funnier because they're very sweet and supportive of him, but not to an overbearing extent
Bald Bull đŸ‡čđŸ‡·đŸ‚
- Social shut in + anger issues
- His autism made it hard to understand other kids, so he didn't have a lot of friends
- Can't remember his parents well
- Nothing too notable here
Super Macho Man đŸ‡ș🇾🌊
- Very rich actors' parents (Sophia and Lucas) that weren't really parents. They were more like acting agents for young Macho Man.
- Didn't do well at school, and was often taken out so he could focus on his inevitable acting career
- Looks SO different from how he did as a kid... as a kid, he was a tiny blonde boy with a cute smile and rosey dimples. A far cry from how Macho Man looks now...
- Loved the beach, but his parents never brought him there much. He'd sneak off with friends often to be at the beach. Loved swimming, surfing and the ocean.
- His parents dropped all contact with him once reports of him being a spoiled, terrible actor to work with made public. They didn't wanna take credit for the kid they raised lol
- Loved action movies as a kid, had a ton of merchandise
Mr. Sandman đŸŸąđŸ„Š
- First of all, dude will never spill the beans about his childhood if you ask.
- Had absolutely incredible parents that he loved a lot. He lived with his kindhearted, if shy mother (Destiny) and his strong, wise father (Miles).
- Loved boxing ever since he was a boy... his childhood room was adorable, adorned with posters, action figures, and even trading cards.
- Strong, sporty kid who participated in multiple little leagues. He laughed and smiled way more during fights as a kid...
- Moved to NY when he was a teen to get recognized... Mr. Dream picked him up for training and stardom.
- Saw his parents less and less the more he worked with Mr. Dream... but Mr. Dream needed full control over him for true greatness.
- His childhood officially ended when his parents never came home from work one day because Mr. Dream had them murdered...
If anyone wants childhood hc for any particular boxer not mentioned, please comment them!~

i missed kenwatt. still back to basics/hashing out a more grounded version of them :) plausibly pre-slash.
Seawatt hears an Omz Mask-possessed Kenadian was captured for the third or fourth time. He decides to go visit them.
WC: 1067 | divider
Tumblr media
Seawatt makes the trek out to go see them, when he hears. It’s the third or fourth time they’ve been captured – and like the times before, it won’t be for long, which means he’s on a time limit.
He’s slightly too late. By the time he tracks down which server they’re being held on and makes his way to the city, the prison is already destroyed, left a wreck of craters and rubble and hoppers burning like netherrack. Or maybe he’s just on time; he can see them, still perched on the destruction like a bird, weightless.
“Ken,” he calls, and the figure turns, a smirk already etched into their painfully familiar face.
Late last winter, well-known escapist, prison designer, and investigative journalist Kenadian had contacted him for an interview regarding the “world’s hardest prison” trend, which they’d been tirelessly debunking for years in a series that included Seawatt himself. Seawatt had understood, of course, where they were coming from, and harbored no hard feelings over the criticism – so when they’d apologized for their harsher commentary and asked if he’d be willing to offer his own perspective (ha) on the subject, he’d obviously agreed.
Speaking to them in person had been surprisingly easy, as Kenadian had turned out to be far more laidback than their journalism would’ve led him to expect – and they’d clicked well in terms of their shared interest in glitches, niche mechanics, and telling stories by unconventional means. Seawatt found the escapist to be lively, passionate, entertaining, clever and witty and with a sarcastic streak a mile wide. It was impossible not to enjoy their company. The interview went smoothly, they slept at his apartment for a few days and took some extra b-roll footage of his life, and by the end of the whole affair, he considered them a friend.
The video was never actually released, as Kenadian went MIA shortly after the two of them parted ways. Then, in the spring, they’d reappeared again, somehow having gained the ability to both fly and control storms of fiery iron hoppers, to destroy entire cities in widespread attacks, and killing hundreds – then thousands.
Now, despite popular belief, Seawatt isn’t completely stupid.
During part of his interview, he’d been asked about his opinion on Omziscool, Ken’s primary target at the time, and the crown jewel of the staged escape room epidemic. So, of course he recognized the smooth white mask covering half of Kenadian’s face from the onset – of course he remembered that hoppers were part of Omz’s signature and one of the things Ken most enjoyed mocking, of course he’d immediately realized that this was exceptionally out of character for someone like Kenadian, even if they didn’t yet know each other well. But looking at them now, Seawatt knows his gut was right.
“Oh, it’s you,” they say coolly, floating gently down onto the pockmarked pavement before him, so that they can stand eye level with one another. Seawatt stands his ground, though they land uncomfortably close. “Hello, SeawattGaming. What are you doing here?”
“I don’t know,” he replies. His heart beats harshly in his chest, imprisoned behind his ribs. “I came to see you.”
There is some life behind their one visible eye – the gold one, which glows under the flickering firelight. There is some recognition, some cognisance of what they’re doing. It’s not much. When they take another step forward, Seawatt backs up.
“Aw, how sweet of you!” they chirp, sounding more genuine than he expected. The hair stands up on the back of his neck. “Just for that, I’ll leave you be. You’re special, you know.”
“You flatter me,” he says. Ken takes another step towards him; he takes another step away, like a dance. Every movement they make is fluid, calculated, as smooth and liquid as water. It’s nothing like the way he remembers their hands fluttering in excitement as they recounted their discovery of a new crawl glitch, or the quicksilver flick of their movements as they showed him how to manipulate his hitbox to clip through blocks, mechanics practiced and precise, reminiscent of some speedrunners he’s met. They feel dangerous, in a way that makes his skin crawl even though they’re not actively threatening him. It’s strange to hold that feeling next to his memory of them in his apartment’s tiny kitchen, in their pajamas, eyelids drooping and tail sweeping sleepily from side to side as they bite into a piece of plain bread, dry.
“Besides, I’m not going to hurt anyone I know,” Ken continues blithely. “And I know you – like you, even. So you’re fine. My, how the tables have turned! Maybe you should debunk me this time, show the whole world what an awful person I am, what a fraud. Give them a whole new perspective.” They laugh, breathy, reach up with one hand as if to touch his face. “What do you say?”
“The world already knows, Ken.” He works hard not to flinch away when their cold fingers land on his cheek, and succeeds. In a quiet voice, he says, “I would say you’ve gotten more media attention already than Omz ever did.”
Again they laugh, a chilling noise. Then, abruptly, they switch tracks. “The crown is new.”
“It is,” he agrees.
“I like it,” they say, tapping his nose with their pointer finger before pulling away, feet effortlessly leaving the ground. “It suits you. Better get going, SeawattGaming. You’re no threat to me, so I won’t threaten you – but you shouldn’t stick around if you don’t wanna get caught up in something that you shouldn’t.”
He looks them in the eye – the gold one, staring into it with pinpoint focus, tuning out everything else. The fire, the distant sirens, the oncoming storm, his own heartbeat. The mask. Seawatt ignores all of it and tries to talk directly to Kenadian, his friend, someone he thinks he could’ve had a real connection with. Someone who will break out of this prison like any other, he’s sure. They’ve got the determination for it, the pride, the strength of will.
“Stay safe,” he says, rather than anything else.
Ken tilts their head at him. “Will do.”
The next he hears of them, even months after that, the mask has vanished and they’re being shipped to their own prison: Daedalus Labyrinth. Seawatt breathes a sigh of relief, and starts researching how to get on the visitation waitlist.

The Harbingers: Auditions
Audacious Machine Creative is accepting auditions for their upcoming production of The Harbingers, an audio fiction podcast serial written by Gabriel Urbina and directed by Jeffrey Nils Gardner.
Our first round of auditions will be via remote recording, for three primary characters: ADAM BLACKWELL, AMY STERLING, and CLAUDIA SKINNER. There will be a second round of in-person callbacks in Chicago, IL.
We are currently only considering actors in the Chicago area.
Please submit a resume and recording of the provided sides for the character(s) you are auditioning for before Wednesday, May 21 at midnight. Recordings do not need to be of professional quality- we just need to be able to hear your acting. You may choose to read sides alone or with a reader. Please slate all recordings with your full name and the role you are reading for.
Call backs will be held in-person in Chicago, IL on May 30th and 31st. We will be recording the first four episodes of the season in July of 2025. At this time, we are only considering actors who are available to record in person in Chicago.
Download the sides here.
Use this link to submit a resume, conflicts for the month of July, and recordings of your audition.
About the production process:
The first season will be recorded over approximately 16 recording sessions between July 2025 and March of 2026 in the Rogers Park area of Chicago. All roles will be paid at $25/hr for both rehearsal and recording.  This is a non-SAG production.
A pilot for The Harbingers is a 2025 selection for the Tribeca Festival. We are currently considering actors for all roles in The Harbingers. You may be invited to read for several roles during callbacks, including roles other than those you originally read for.
About The Harbingers:
In the wake of a world-altering magic incident, the only two living magicians wrestle with how we got here and what happens next.
When Adam Blackwell and Amy Stirling met, they immediately clashed. They were both grad students studying a long dead language, academic rivals, and brief paramours - though they’d really prefer if everyone forgot about that last thing, thank you very much. Then they became the only people in the world capable of doing magic. Over the course of the next five years, they became global superstars, objects of adoration, scrutiny, and fear.
Until one day, Amy baits Adam into doing something incredible and terrible. The world's only two magicians are inextricably linked and now have to answer some difficult questions. Is this the right way to use this power? Have they done irreparable damage to the world? And above everything else, what are they going to do next?
About the characters:
We are excited to consider all kinds of people for these roles. All races, gender identities/expressions are encouraged to audition for whatever role catches your interest.
Adam Blackwell
The Most Powerful Man in the World
Adam is young (late 20s-early 30s) but the very definition of an old soul. He's careful and calculating, double checking the math on practically everything he says and does. He is energetic and genuinely generous. He has both boundless enthusiasm and a real talent for talking about the smart things he's doing in his work. Most people find him to be a kindly, reassuring presence. A few people think he's a conniving son of a bitch. The truth is that he's both - less of the former than he tries to project, more of the latter than he'd care to admit.
Adam has usually been the smartest person in whatever room he finds himself in. He can usually think his way out of any problem, and can confidently bluff his way out of a lot of the ones he can't just think his way out of.) At the same time, he can be a little culturally myopic - he's the sort of person that will read two books a week, but go a full year without reading any fiction.
For all of his steady presence and bookish professor persona, there is a real sense of ego, entitlement, and even anger to Adam. He’s smart, he's put in the effort, he's done the work - it's time for everyone to be quiet and let him tell them how it's going to be.
Amy Stirling
The Silver Witch
Amy (Late 20s-early 30s) has spent all of her life trying to do two things: get people to take her seriously and have fun. It is the sisyphean curse of her life that these are often in opposition. Still, Amy refuses to get discouraged - she will do great work, she will make people see how talented she is, and she will look great while doing so. If anyone's displeased by any of this, it's their problem.
Amy is an excellent judge of character, and an even better cataloguer of people's wants and needs. She probably wouldn’t call herself manipulative- she’s just VERY good at helping people understand what they really want.
Amy is impulsive and hot-headed - though it often doesn't look that way purely by dint of her on-the-fly decision-making being so good. She loves dancing until 3:00 AM at music festivals, and has wandered through the woods high as a kite on more than one occasion. She firmly believes that Taylor Swift's Red is the first great artistic masterpiece of the 21st Century, and will happily spend forty minutes explaining why.
Claudia Skinner
Senior Partner, Skinner, De Vries, and Wiseman
Claudia Skinner (Early 40s) could have easily inherited a life of idle leisure from their father, an enormously successful lawyer. Instead, they went to work. There's a proper way of doing things, and they’re going to do things the proper way.
Now one of the senior partners and head litigators at the firm, Skinner earns astounding amounts of money each year by being an absolute master interrogator. Almost everything they do during a deposition - from odd humor and an irreverent tone to harsh rebukes and sharp, biting criticisms - is carefully designed to disarm. It is this quality - along with their commitment to exhaustive research and encyclopedic knowledge of the law - that makes them such a good lawyer.
Still, for all their coldblooded maneuvering, there is a humanistic side to Skinner. They’re set for life financially, so when they take on a client it's because they believe in the case. They believe in the best version of their client, and think they can be of help in getting them there. And as much as they would like to pretend that all their strange humor is just interrogation tactics, a lot of it actually comes from something their father taught them: "Things are never hopeless if you can still find a way to laugh about whatever's going on."

I'm terminally humanities brained, but I am kind of interested in pure mathematics and POM and generally just more mathematics oriented philosophy stuff/mathematics in general, I haven't studied any kind of maths since Highschool, how should I get into it? Should I read Quine?
Oh, this is a great question and I am very happy you have decided to send it to me! My answer reflects my particular views on mathematics and what it is all about, of course, so keep that in mind.
The number one thing I would like to convey about mathematics to someone coming from the humanities is that mathematics, far more than most fields, is something you do in addition to something you learn. Mathematical thinking has to be practiced, it is a skill that you train. If your primary interest is in philosophy of math, I'm afraid I haven't read very deeply on the subject and probably can't recommend a good starting place. Maybe... Russell? Look into Hilbert's program, and why it failed? But if you want to understand math "from the inside" instead of "from the outside", then you have to do math, and to that end I think "who to read" is the wrong question.
This might sound a bit scary, but I don't think it needs to be. Math is not so hard to do, although it is a very foreign type of thinking to those who are not practiced at it. In fact, this is why I think doing math is important even if your interests are primarily in POM; math is ultimately a human activity, regardless of e.g. what you believe about the ontology of mathematical abstractions, and I believe that in order to understand it fully (to have a picture of it beyond just its ontology) it must be understood as a human activity. Thus, one must do it, at least a little bit. It is, if nothing else, a whole realm of human experience all its own, and I think just about anyone would profit intellectually from spinning their mental gears in a mathematical way here and there.
Thankfully, there are many great places to start if this is your aim. I assume that what we're talking about here is "proof based" math rather than just calculation. To that end, a great introductory book is Velleman's How to Prove It, which will give you some guiding principles and many examples of how to approach a mathematical proof. Beyond that, I think you'll want to pick up an "entry level" introductory text (that is, an introductory text aimed at undergrads, etc.) on any math topic that strikes your fancy, and work through it—making sure that you understand the structure of the arguments (proofs), and attempting as many of the exercises as you can. The exercises are really the most important part. You cannot learn math without the exercises. You cannot learn math by reading it. The only way to learn is to try your hand at it yourself.
Expect your reading speed to be slow, and new concepts to be confusing. Expect to read things over and over, and fiddle with them in your head, before they make sense. Well, I mean, if you're anything like me or like most people. I think one of the biggest reasons people get turned off to math is that most of it just doesn't make any sense the first time you encounter it; it won't make sense until you've thought about it a lot.
One way or another, if you have a background in philosophy and are used to parsing and evaluating careful arguments, you will have a leg up on many people getting their introduction to proofs.
As for what topic to start with... you could always start with Euclid's elements, which is still a perfectly solid introduction to Euclidean geometry even after 2500 years. It does not quite meet modern standards of mathematical rigor (in other words, its proofs have gaps by modern standards), but realistically this is not a big deal: the basic thinking style is the same, and the gaps are somewhat subtle and technical IIRC, so I don't think it will really affect the beginner experience. On the other hand I believe at least a couple of Euclid's proofs are genuinely flawed (that is to say, they aren't just uncareful in their presentation, but are actually invalid in their structure), so maybe it's better to start with a modern work first.
Some books that I think are good for a beginner:
Graham, Knuth, & Patashnik, Concrete Mathematics — The focus of this book is on mathematical tools for computer science, but even if that is not your interest it's still a great book. It deals mostly with familiar concepts such as whole numbers and sequences (you might have encountered, e.g., the Fibonacci sequence), but is great for learning to problem solve and think mathematically.
Rudin, Principals of Mathematical Analysis, ("Baby Rudin") — If you want trial-by-fire. A lot of math undergrads have this as the textbook for their first proof-based math class, and it's notoriously challenging. Its topic is the field of real analysis, the rigorous foundations of calculus. I... wouldn't start here if I were you, honestly, but it's definitely a classic.
Some graph theory text. Some people seem to be recommending Wilson's, which has the convenient feature of being available online here. I haven't read it, but looking over it, it seems fairly gentle. There are a lot of pictures, and proofs don't enter the picture until a couple of sections in. Graph theory has the advantage of being very visual and having basically no prerequisites, so this might be a nice place to start.
Some abstract algebra book. If you're looking for a really clear presentation of the way mathematics is done today, starting with axioms and proving theorems deductively from them, etc., there is probably no place where it is more straightforwardly visible than in abstract algebra. The first math book I ever attempted was Herstein's Topics in Algebra; not the most beginner oriented, but certainly not inaccessible, and hey, it worked out for me! If this one is not to your liking there are a million books on e.g. introductory group theory you could look into, or the very canonical Dummit & Foote, or so on.
Uh yeah I think that's all I got. Anyone else feel free to put any more thoughts or recommendations in the reblogs!

What’s the origin of your username?: I was trying to come up with a memorable enough username that would fit The Vibe because I originally wanted this to be an art account, then proceeded to not post art for two years lol. I wanted something that had a motif of both religion+horror since I tend to make (original) art around that concept. Also a primary reason I love The Vampire Armand
OTP(s) + ship name: Anything involving Armand (except Bianca sorry queen I’m just heterophobic). Especially Armand/Daniel
but TVL Lesmand has a grip on me too

 and Venice era

. Prior to Armand I was obsessed with Usami/Tsurumi from the Golden Kamuy manga and Ash/Eiji from Banana Fish lol
Favorite color: Black and red!
Song stuck in your head: I have been listening to Rosegarden Funeral Party lately, but especially their song Follow. It is so early Devil’s Minion coded to me!
I have also been listening to Secret Shame's discography quite a bit
Weirdest habit/trait: Probably that I talk to myself constantly when I’m alone (like full on animated conversations). I had to curb this in college because I’d constantly misjudge when my roommates were home 😭 remnants of a highly isolated childhood lol
Hobbies: Drawing, writing, music composition, playing piano + singing, finding and altering vintage fashion+furniture, fashion in general

.
If you work, what’s your profession?: I am a piano teacher!
If you could have any job you wish, what would it be?: Hmm, probably to be a writer or artist! Though I know the realities of doing those professionally would be far less rewarding than painting Renaissance figures as Armand
Something you’re good at: Baking!
Something you hate: Minimalist interior design (or what I like to call grey box houses). I have a physical revulsion response when I see it
Something you collect: Lately hardcover books! I have a custom hardcover of The Vampire Armand ❀. I also have a hardcover of Cry to Heaven by Anne Rice!
Something you forget: Genuinely everything lol my best friend remembers my life better than I do
What’s your love language?: Hah I’ve never thought about this for myself but I certainly show love to others through acts of service!
Favorite movie/show:
I don’t watch enough television to have an answer for this 😭. (Feel free to recommend shows or films— I am trying to change this!) I am constantly reading, though, and my favorite books are East of Eden by John Steinbeck, The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber, Cry to Heaven by Anne Rice, and of course The Vampire Armand ❀
Favorite food: Any kind of curry
Favorite animal: Cats! But I love all animals and insects (especially moths and beetles)
What were you like as a child?: My childhood nickname was terremoto (earthquake) if that says anything lol. My church also had my photograph on the wall because I had so much scripture memorized at such a young age. #scripturewarrior
Favorite subject at school: Literature
Least favorite subject: I was so extraordinarily bad at math I got put in the special ed class for algebra
What’s your best character trait?: Likely my positivity and optimism. I am generally a very cheerful person. I am also incapable of judging others which is in some ways a positive trait and has gotten me into some terrible situations otherwise lol
What’s your worst character trait?: I have categorically lacked self-respect throughout my life. I’m working on it đŸ«Ą
If you could travel in time, who would you like to meet?: Extremely recent history, but I am a bit too young to have done this in my own life– I would have LOVED to talk to Anne Rice about her work. As a person she fascinates me. I would also love to meet a distant female ancestor, especially one from prehistory
I tag @relicsofasaint and anyone else who’d like to do this! đŸ«¶đŸ«¶
