The Road Not Taken (88.278 words) by mollymarymarie
Rating: Explicit
modern AU, everybody lives!AU
Summary:
Ten years ago, Remus broke the heart of his best friend. Just before that friend became world-renowned pop icon, Sirius Black. Now, his other best friends are having a baby, and they've named both Remus and Sirius the godfather of their unborn child as some convoluted plot to get them back together. They pretend it doesn't work while simultaneously, and secretly, finding their way back to one another.
Comment:
This fic was just incredible. The tension between Remus and Sirius, and all the heartache and yearning and want and all the other emotions all just felt so real and it was really easy to get completely absorbed into their little universe, I highly recommend checking it out and reading it! Also, there's some beautiful smut later in the fic and the build up to that is just *chefs kiss*.

(Inspired by @wolfstarmicrofic 's Alternative Universes theme! A sort of combined Performer AU and College AU🙂)
1058 words
Sirius Black's emotional break-up songs are topping the charts all over the world. But hearing those songs everywhere he goes, Remus is about to reach his breaking point.
With His Song
Home is where the heart is,
But it's not the concrete, nor the stone,
Not the room you sit in,
But the smile that lights it up.
Not the bed you sleep in,
But the heartbeat besides your own.
Home is where the heart is,
But it's not necessarily a place,
Sometimes, it's tracing the scars on someone's hand,
Sometimes, it's counting the freckles on someone's face.
It's been so long,
Coming home to you,
And did you know,
I could easily move on?
But the truth is,
I just don't want to.
If home is where the heart is,
Then baby, could it be,
That your home is still with me?
Mary lets out a sigh that seems to be coming from somewhere deep inside of her. “My god, I'm going to listen to that song on repeat for the rest of the week,” and after a moment she adds “potentially the rest of my life.”
“Then you're gonna have to get some headphones,” Remus says. “Because I'm already getting sick of hearing it.”
Mary gasps and clutches her chest. “Blasphemy!”
Remus gives her an unimpressed look. “I don't think you're using that word right.”
“‘Irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable’,” Mary states unfazed. “So yes, the perfect description of you insulting Sirius Black's music.”
Emmeline nods emphatically.
Remus sighs. “I'm not saying it's a bad song,” he says. “Just that I'm getting tired of hearing it everywhere, all the time.”
Mary opens her mouth to retort, but Emmeline interjects.
“I do sort of relate. It has gotten a painful tinge to hear the song, now that I know I won't be seeing Sirius Black perform it live…”
“You didn't get tickets for his show?” Marlene asks.
“No,” Emmeline sighs miserably. “I'm on the waiting list. Number 329.”
“Not as bad as Hestia. She's number 1550 or something.”
Emmeline shrugs. “In the end, it makes no difference. 329 or 1550, neither one of us is going to the concert. I mean, 329 people will have to die, and I don't reckon I'd be that lucky…”
“Emmeline!” Lily scolds.
“Well, that's the only excuse for not going to a Sirius Black concert, literally being dead,” Mary says. “I'd actually skip my mum’s funeral if I could see him live.”
“Mary!”
“No, no, Lils,” Emmeline says. “You don't know Mary's mum. If Mary were to miss out on seeing Sirius Black for her funeral, she'd actually come back from the death to haunt her.”
Mary nods. “She's a huge fan. Not going to a Sirius Black concert would be disrespecting her memory.” She glances over at Remus. “She might have some things to say as well if she hears that my actual roommate has openly disrespected Sirius Black’s music.”
Remus sticks out his tongue. “Sue me.”
“As soon as they create a law that makes depreciating Sirius Black illegal, which they should, I will!”
“Anyhow,” Emmeline says. “I haven't heard Sirius Black's voice for almost five minutes and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms,” and she reaches out to put the record back on.
Remus gets up to his feet. “That's my cue to leave.”
“You don't have to, Remus,” Lily says quickly. “If you really don't want us to, we won't put on his music. We value your company more than listening to Sirius Black.”
“Says who? Ow!” Emmeline rubs her shin where Lily kicked her.
Remus smiles at Lily. “Thanks, Lils, but it's okay. I have a paper I need to work on anyway.”
The moment Remus closes the door to his bedroom, he lets out a sigh that seems to be coming from somewhere deep inside of him.
Then, almost without thinking, he takes out his phone and punches in the number by heart.
“Hello?” The voice on the other end of the line sounds surprised and, dare Remus think, hopeful?
“You have to stop doing this,” Remus hears himself say. “No,” he then corrects himself. “You don't have to do anything. I'm asking you. Please stop doing this.”
“Remus, what are you talking about?” He seems to be walking away from something– A promo event? A fancy dinner? An exclusive party?– as Remus can hear the voices in the background grow softer. Remus feels a brief hint of satisfaction; no matter how big the event he's at, how important the people he's with, when Remus calls, he gets up and walks away to talk to him, but Remus quickly corrects himself, because it's not like that anymore.
“It's killing me,” Remus admits, pressing a hand against his forehead. “I understand, but… God, it's killing me.”
“Rem,” Sirius, because of course it's Sirius, says gently. “You're still not making much sense. What are you trying to say? Why are you suddenly calling me? Why… Why now?”
“Your latest releases,” Remus says, as he starts pacing the room, though he can barely take two steps before he reaches the opposite wall. It's rather telling of the difference between them, he can't help but think. Sirius undoubtedly in some grand building surrounded by dozens of people who would fall over themselves to cater to his every whim, and Remus hiding out in his eight square meter bedroom cluttered with textbooks and scribbled notes. “I get why you do it. I'm probably terribly biased,” he lets out a brief laugh. “But I think the songs you wrote when we were together, and even after we just broke up, are your best songs, so I get that you would want to release them, to share them with the world and show everyone once again just how bloody talented you are. And you have every right. They're your works, your creations. But gods, Sirius, I can't pretend anymore.”
“Pretend,” Sirius repeats, his voice almost a whisper, and Remus lets it all out.
“I can't pretend anymore that hearing those songs everywhere I go all the damn time doesn't make me want to die! That it doesn't just break me, to hear your voice sing those words, knowing what they once meant, and knowing that they don't mean that anymore! That you don't mean that anymore.”
“Remus,” Sirius interrupts sharply, and Remus immediately stops talking as Sirius speaks. “Do you really think I could sing those words like that, if I didn't still feel that way?”
And Remus’ breath catches in his throat.

Sirius: I don't care. We're just enjoying the show.

singer!james potter x singer!reader (celebrity au)
A/n: If you guys like this I definitely have enough ideas for a series!
Summary: You meet James Potter and the rest of The Marauders for the first time after their show in L.A. You hope it’s not the last (1.6k)
——————————————————————————
You had just finished touring for your first album, “Atomic”, and you were ready for a break. Those months on tour were amazing, and you were so grateful for the experience. But touring was also tiring, and you were so excited to finally sleep in your own bed, use your own shower, and be surrounded by your favorite people again. Tonight was your first night out in a while, after taking a few weeks off to rest. You were going to a concert with your new boyfriend and famous actor, Fabian Prewett. You and Fabian had met after the first leg of your tour at a house party in L.A. You had hit it off over a drunk game of pool and had now been dating for three months. On top of this being your first night out in awhile, it would also be your debut as a couple, and you were, admittedly, a little nervous. Your boyfriend, however, was the opposite. Though you guessed Fabian was rarely nervous for anything- something you really liked about him. When you arrived at the venue, you were ushered through a side entrance to avoid all of the prying eyes. Though the venue was smaller, when the band had heard that you and Fabian were attending the show, they made sure to set aside space for a more private viewing of the concert. You and Fabian were given seats near the front of the stage, and also backstage passes to meet the band after.
You were more than thrilled that you were going to get to meet The Marauders- a British boy band you had stumbled upon while touring in London. They were a big hit amongst your London fan base, so you gave them a listen and quickly became a fan yourself. When they announced that they were touring in the US, you instantly bought tickets. There was just something about their sound, their style, and the rather attractive lead singer, James Potter, that drew you in. Once you were escorted to your seats by the security guard, you asked Fabian to take some pictures of you. He obliged, though begrudgingly. That was one thing you had noticed about Fabian so far that you didn’t like – he wasn’t the most attentive boyfriend. But you supposed that perhaps he just wasn’t the most affectionate person. After posing in your cute outfit for a few photos, and taking some selfies with Fabian, you noticed a few giggling girls behind you, whispering to one another as they looked over at you and your boyfriend. When they asked you for your autographs, you, of course, agreed, and Fabian turned on his boyish charm, making the girls swoon and giggle even louder. You weren’t really jealous of the girls’ obvious infatuation with your boyfriend because you knew that to him, they were just fans. Still, you were glad when the lights dimmed a little, signaling the start of the show and the end of his fan interactions. Smoke poured out onto the stage and lights began to flash. One by one, the band members ran out onto the stage to assume their positions. First to run out was the keys player, Peter Pettigrew- a short, stout brunette with the most endearing baby face and an incredible knack for playing the piano. Next was the drummer, Sirius Black. He could not be more opposite from Peter- all muscle, dark, heavy makeup, and long, jet black hair. Though you supposed Peter and Sirius had height in common. Then came out the lead guitarist, Remus Lupin. Remus was tall- taller than you ever could have imagined, with shaggy, sand-colored hair and a distinctive scar down the side of his face that made him look badass. Finally, the lead singer of the band, James Potter, came out in all his glory. His brunette curls bounced as he ran up to the microphone stand and his impressive biceps flexed as he grabbed the mic and shouted to the crowd, “how are we all doing tonight?”
The crowd cheered.
“We are very excited to be here in L.A. and put on a great show for you guys,” he said proudly, “I am James Potter and we are The Marauders.”
The crowd went wild as one of their most popular hits blared through the speakers. You, of course, screamed right along with them.
*****
The show had exceeded your expectations in every way possible, and you gushed all about it to Fabian as security guards escorted the two of you backstage. When you entered the backstage area, you were led over to a black couch and a coffee table laden with snacks. Security told you that the band would be out shortly, so you sat down, waiting anxiously.
“Babe, I’m honestly so excited for this. God they were even better than I imagined,” you exclaimed.
Fabian nodded and squeezed your thigh gently, “yeah baby, they were great. But maybe just like, play it cool when you meet them, y’know? Don’t wanna come off like one of those crazy fans we met earlier.”
Your smile dimmed a little but you nodded, “Yeah, no. Of course. You’re right. And they’re just people anyways.”
Fabian checked his phone again, looking at the time. You could tell he was anxious to get back to his apartment, but ignored him.
Luckily, only a minute or two later, The Marauders themselves emerged from a hallway across from you, where their dressing rooms were most likely at. You smacked Fabian’s shoulder excitedly and stood as the group of four approached you.
“Sorry for the delay,” Remus said to you first, “Sirius here insisted on touching himself up before meeting you two.”
You laugh a little as Sirius squawked, “Well excuse me for wanting to look presentable for our guests, unlike you, Moony.”
Remus only rolled his eyes and Sirius winked at you with a smirk. You laughed again and Fabian’s hand wrapped around your waist, “It’s nice to meet you all,” your boyfriend said, extending his hand to shake each of the boys’, “I’m Fabian and this is my partner, Y/n.”
You smiled brightly and waved at them all, “You guys were amazing, oh my god! I mean, what a great show. Peter- I’d kill to play the piano half as good as you, and Sirius, your drumming totally made the energy of the crowd. And the guitar solo in the first song Remus- holy shit. I-“
Fabian squeezed your waist tightly, a reminder to keep your cool. You glanced at him and smiled lightly before saying, “I- just wow. Really, really good.”
“No praise for me?” A voice said teasingly. You turned to see James Potter looking at you with a smirk, and you hated to admit that it left you feeling a little flustered. Still, you reminded yourself, you had a boyfriend, so you shook it off.
“Well of course I have some, I just… am still processing your performance. But honestly, you sounded amazing, James. Anyone would be jealous of your voice.”
“Says you,” he smiled, a beautiful crooked grin, “don’t you have like 5 Grammys now and a sold out world tour?”
You blushed a little, “only 3 Grammys and well, they really don’t mean all that much. Plenty of talented artists have yet to win one- including you.”
“You’re too humble,” Peter interjected, reaching down to grab a piece of candy off the snack table, “Your recognition is deserved, and we’re all huge fans, so I’m not just saying that.”
“Jamsie here was freaking out when he found out you were coming to the show,” Sirius added, plopping down onto an adjoining couch, “And you too, of course,” he said to Fabian.
Your boyfriend smiled, though you’re sure it’s a bit more of a grimace.
“I mean how could I not be a fan?” James asked you, “As a musician, I have incredible respect for you, and your lyrics are fantastic. What’s not to like?”
Despite being a celebrity, you’d never quite become comfortable with the praise and attention you got for doing something so natural to you- writing songs about your feelings. So you only stuttered and blushed a little more, waving your hand with an embarrassed thank you.
“Well, I think it’s time we get a picture, yeah?” Fabian announced.
“Of course, only if you want to,” you added.
“Yeah, yes, please,” Remus said.
He called over to one of the security guards and asked them to take the picture. You and Remus both handed him your phones, so that he could take one on each. In a shuffle of movement, you ended up posed for the picture with Peter on your immediate right and Remus next to him and Fabian on your immediate left then James and Sirius. You smiled brightly, throwing your arm around Peter while Fabian’s hand stayed at the small of your back.
When the pictures had been taken, you shuffled apart and took your phone from the security guard.
“Wait, babe,” you said to Fabian, “can you get one of just me and the band too?”
“If you guys are okay with that?” You asked them.
Fabian sent you a slightly pained smile but nodded, taking your phone.
As you shuffled into order again, you ended up squeezed between Remus and James- their height making you look extra short. While Remus threw his arm over your shoulder, James’ hand wrapped around your waist, and you nearly shuddered.
With photos over, you knew it was time to go.
As The Marauders left, Sirius sent you a final wink, Peter a small wave, Remus a nonchalant nod and James a beaming smile.
You couldn’t have had a better first meeting- and you hoped it wasn’t the last.

Prompt: Mandrake
@wolfstarmicrofic
Word count: 249
Sirius Black was a horrible singer.
James thought he sounded like a dying banshee. Peter insisted it was more like an injured mandrake. Remus opined that it was definitely like a sick ghoul.
Luckily, Sirius, ever the gentleman, kept his singing volume to a dull roar, and limited it to the shower.
It annoyed his dorm mates a bit, sure, but they learned to laugh at it, to poke fun and grin when they heard his screeching.
He always sang the upbeat classics- Bowie and Queen; Kiss and The Beatles.
Personally, James was glad he preferred that over Broadway or Opera.
But in fifth year, Sirius's tastes suddenly changed.
He began singing melancholy love songs about unrequited feelings and loneliness.
And Remus began listening.
James noticed it.
Sirius sang about loving someone who would never love him back, and Remus paused in his reading, listening closely to the horribly off-pitch crooning.
James started putting the pieces together.
Sirius sang about wishing he could find the perfect person, and Remus tuned in intently, ignoring the way Sirius's voice cracked, even as Peter winced.
James saw the way they looked at each other.
And one day, in sixth year, Sirius's tastes changed again.
Suddenly, he was singing happy songs; songs about loving someone forever; songs about being happily in love.
And James wasn't at all surprised when, after Sirius exited the bathroom, steam from his shower trailing out behind him, he placed a confident and familiar kiss right on Remus's lips.

Marauders singer au but its Regulus being in the audience while Sirius is singing about his brother James.
Regulus chose the right side of the war that day. He was standing outside the stadium. He wanted to tell Sirius what he was going to do, he wanted to scream, and beg, and cry, and apologize, he wanted to say goodbye, but most of all he wanted Sirius to know that in the end he chose to be brave. In the end he fought against him. In the end Regulus might actually be remembered as a good person. He moved to step away, knowing deep in his soul that this was just a fever dream, like a blurry memory he knew he'd never be able to reach, when he heard the lyrics ringing out from the stadium. It was a chorus of voices, all the marauders fans singing along, but leading them was a voice he'd never forget.
🎵If I was dying on my knees, you would be the one to rescue me, and if you were drowned at sea, I'd give you my lungs so you could breathe🎵
While the lyrics flowed into his ears, Regulus changed his path and stepped into the stadium.
🎵I've got you brothe-e-e-er🎵
His heart swelled for a second as the words registered. Sirius remembered him. Sirius was singing about him. Sirius didn't forget him. But he stopped dead in his tracks when he heard a different voice fling out from a different microphone, eliciting a whole new round of cheers. It was James. His James.
🎵I've got you brothe-e-e-er🎵
Of course they were singing of each other. They had each other to love, and they'd never need him. Without another step he left the stadium. Normally, Regulus is very aware of everything that happens around him, his pureblood upbringing ensured that, but what he didn't know was Sirius had noticed him the moment he stepped into view, and watched him leave seconds later.
The next day, as he fell into the water, as his soul left the world forevermore, he'd never know that Sirius had watched him leave. That Sirius would spend the next week desperately searching for him. That when the news of his death came out, Sirius blamed himself. He'd never know of the hours Sirius spent crying at his grave, the tears Sirius shed for his little brother.
And Sirius would always wonder what would've happened if he had only sang a different song, one of the hundreds he had about Regulus, about his regret, and he would die not knowing that Regulus had chosen the right side of the war, outside of the stadium, that fateful night.
