Also! Your art style is gorgeous and that being found in 2023 and then refined throughout late 2023 and the entirety of 2024 really shows, as does your growth in panel layouts, perspective, and — as you said — experimentation. If you ever post your animation or video game art I’m looking forward to it.

As cheesy as it sounds, being able to laugh at funny comics and look at all the details of your art really made my 2024 brighter, even when things were hard. Including looking at your older art— it doesn’t need to be new to be enjoyable! I’m glad your art is well loved and it’s a privilege to have been here since the (near) beginning. I hope you take care of yourself in 2025 and beyond!

Thank you so much for keeping up with my art journey throughout these last two years! Two years!!! I am baffled at how that feels both too long and too short!

Admittedly, my art summary didn't manage to capture the fact that I did a lot of comic layouts that I'm really proud of. I also drew more backgrounds and made some very detailed works (*Dungeon Meshi spoilers for these examples*).

The growth is lot more evident when comparing my 'best' comics of 2023 to 2024:

Sometimes the growth is vertical, sometimes it is horizontal - and damn, sometimes it goes out of sight into the Z-plane. But it is always happening!

So you're stuck, even though you know what comes next in your plot.

Sometimes you know what the next "interesting" moment is, but you're struggling to get there. Or maybe you're struggling to actually attack the task of writing the next scene. Point is, you know what happens, but you don't know how to make it happen, or you feel overwhelmed by possibility, or you've just spent too much time staring at a blank page. Here are some steps to try:

-Journal about it. I'm talking incoherent, stream of consciousness, messy handwriting vibes. Or, talk at your notes app with speech-to-text. Talk or journal about where the story goes from here as if you're chatting with a pal. Pretend you're recounting what happened in a movie you watched. Pay attention to the points you fixate on as you're doing this.

-Ask yourself, what's the point? Like, what is the work trying to say? How do you want the reader to feel? What trope are you excited about exploring? Why did you feel compelled/inspired to write this story?

-If you're yawning, your reader will... yawn even harder. If the next part is "boring", cut it out. Can you NOT cut it out? Well, then make it not boring! Up the stakes. Make something go wrong. Add a character to the scene. Piss your focal character off. Make them think what they're doing is working, but only for a second. Take it in a new direction.

-Write the parts you're excited to write. Even if they aren't chronological! Just skip to the good stuff, and then fill in the gaps.

-Disrupt the status quo. What does your focal character believe in this moment? How can you challenge it? How are they feeling-- how can you make them feel differently?

-Dumb it down. Write the scene in the most average, boring way you possibly can. Character A walked into the room. Her husband looked at her. She asked what he wants for dinner. He said I want a divorce for dinner. You get the vibe. Just write it out so boringly, or even use bullet points, and then you'll have some bones to flesh out. As you write your most boring series of actions/reactions, you will naturally start making it more interesting and dynamic as you go. Lean into this!

-Map out what has already happened. So you're trying to write chapter 7 -- map out chapters 1-6. Major plot beats, characters introduced, etc. What questions are lingering for the reader, based on the first 6 chapters? In a journaling session, answer one of them. Or, partially answer one of them. Or, turn that question into a new, more intense question. Brainstorm ways to incorporate your answer, partial answer, or morphed question into chapter 7's very first paragraph.

I am so proud of our fandom for fund raising enough money to sponsor a huge ass billboard near Netflix HQ to gently troll executives as they drive into work. A little, "heyyyyy. Remember us? Remember that whole, "fandom is forever" thing? We're still here, and quite eager for you to save our wildly successful queer YA paranormal detective show", if you will. And we are able to donate $717.91 USD to support and provide assistance to Palestinian LGBTQIA+ people.

Jayden's response on top of all that? It puts a huge grin on my face.

I'm optimistic for saving this show. But even if we don't, we've made a huge difference to so many people. To the cast, to the writers and crew, to Palestinian LGBTQIA people. To each other. To me.

i was hoping to make a post like this under happier circumstances, but here goes.

as some of you know, everything with the cancellation and renewal campaign has happened right on top of the worst part of my mom's cancer treatment (plus the show was cancelled on my actual birthday 💀). i won't go into details, but it's been tough. lots of ups and downs, mostly downs, luckily ending (for now) on as much of an up as circumstances allow. the whole thing has been weirdly tied to the cancellation for me, kind of amplifying every feeling. the grief got mixed up, and there was so much of it - mourning the loss of the kind of future i thought i'd have with my mother and the time we might not get, mourning the end of a show that means so much to me and is such a big part of my life. different types of grief, sure, and of different magnitudes, but in one big ugly swirl. i sort of had a breakdown right at the start of february, and it was because of news about my mom, but it morphed into my brain telling me everything i'd ever written was shit and wanting to delete it all. stuff like that, spilling over.

anyway. i was holding off on writing this post to see if the show got picked up by someone else. but i still want to say it. because what also spilled over was the support and community from this fandom, and being in this space (despite the rough times and high emotions) helped me through it, because of all of you here. whether we talk regularly, or you left a comforting reply or simply a like on one of my posts about having a hard time (i tried to keep them few), or wrote a nice comment on a fic, or said something funny or nice or insightful in the tags of a gifset, or was active here (or on twt) in any way, talking/sharing/creating stuff about the show - THANK YOU.

you all helped me through all the ups and downs, and i am so grateful. thank you for being here, listening, distracting, helping me feel some joy despite the horrors. i love you and i love this incredible show and all it has brought and will continue to bring and inspire, and although it should go without saying, i'm not going anywhere. just do me a favor and give yourself a big ol' hug from me, and know that you made a difference for some random guy on the internet (but in reality for many more, and for this fandom as a whole, just by being here and being you) 💕

Hello, you beautiful people!

My name is Trunko, like the mythical marine creature with white coat and trunk, and I’m a writer. I like to write fantasy books and stories, plus fanfiction of any fandom which I love or any fandom plot concept I want to explore. Also, I like to write alternate history works, because I always found interesting learning how certain changes in the past could have led to a different present and future.

I also have a Ko-fi account, where I post all my current writing project and stories’ new chapters and updates every week, plus all covers and artworks for my fics and stories I’ve commissioned over the years.
