As if out of a miracle, blue flames engulf the sky, the ship's doctor bolts as fast as he could to you. But you weren't a feared pirate for nothing, with your sheer willpower and strength you were able to make it through. A faint cry fills the room, Marco lets out a breath he didn't realise he was holding, he holds the wailing baby gently in his arms, a bond of an uncle to the first newborn of the Mobydick immediately forming.

The bandits were soon dealt with, Ace's frantic emotions kick back in as he rushes across the deck, as fast as he could ever run. He slams the door open, with a million thoughts rushing to his mind. The baby-! You-! And you both okay?! Did Marco take care of you properly?? What exactly-?! And then... blank.

You were there, beads of sweat trickling down your face, faint light pants of breath, a weak geniune smile prominent on your face as you hold a crying child in your arms. Marco was taking the wet towel off your forehead, and Ace just, stood there, dumbfounded. You're eyes catch his shaken figure by the doorframe, and your smile widens.

The shenenigans that Ace would pull to get girls interest or when he gets jealousy is gonna be hilarious, cute and a bit sad.

The strong scent of meat filled the forest, tempting the young boys from their hiding spot. If they made a move now they would be discovered they had to lie and wait for their next meal to appear but the scent was distracting. Luffy’s stomach rumbled, and he was starting to fidget and grumble in protest of sitting in waiting when there was meat cooking nearby.

“You have to stay hidden,” Ace growled, “we can’t be discovered,” his own stomach rumbling in protest it had been a couple of hours since they ate, and their usual hunting spot was strangely missing the usual wild boars that made themselves home. He frowned annoyed as the scent was getting stronger and his stomach gave a loud rumble, giving away their position if there were any animals around.

“I think it would be the best option to go find where the food is coming from,” Sabo finally said when Luffy finally had enough and started running towards the smell of the food screaming ‘MEAT’.

“Shit,” Ace said shuffling out of his hiding spot to chase after his younger brother. He couldn’t believe Luffy sometimes and he was running towards what could be an enemy they needed to scout the area first and if it was, they would figure out how to steal the food. He followed his two brothers, to the source jumping on to Luffy when they reached the edge of a small clearing.

“Stay hidden,” he told his brother his hands on his brother's straw hat and pushing him to the ground. Luffy growled poking his head up a little bit.

“Why?” he questioned, “They have food,”

Ace grunted in response wanting Luffy to stay quiet with Sabo landing next to him and using his pipe to glance between the bushes to get a better look at who was cooking. A young female closer to their age or maybe older was sitting next to the fire turning the spit as she cooked a large slab of meat.

She wasn’t an enemy or didn’t look like it, Ace could feel his heart pound hard in his chest as he watched her. She was unaware she was being watched, she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear and mumbled what the slab of meat would need to add more flavor. She was pretty, the way she moved.

“We can steal now,” Sabo whispered as the girl had her back turned and rummaged through her panic basket. They could take her out, but she didn’t look strong enough and she was alone cooking in the woods, “If her back is turned we can steal before she even sees and we can avoid a fight,” the boy said putting his finger under his chin and nodding.

Ace still couldn’t look away from the girl, her hair bouncing as she moved, he could tell she was starting to get frustrated. He didn’t notice Luffy was also getting frustrated wiggling away from his brother he screamed “MEAT,” and bolted towards the young girl surprising her.

The girl turned her face almost surprised watching a young boy run towards her and two other small faces sneaking from the bushes.

Ace could feel his heart bound faster taking a better look at the girl she was pretty too pretty for words. Even with dirt and mud covering parts of her face. He frowned not liking this new feeling. What was he feeling, annoyance at her wide eyes when she made eye contact with him? Or was it annoyance when she just smiled and waved for them to join her. She wasn’t pretty she was ugly and stupid.

“He is so stupid,” Sabo spoke face-palming himself, he walked out from the bushes his own pipe in hand, ready to attack.

“Yeah,” Ace said frowning and walking towards the young female.

“Would you like to join me?” she questioned holding up a bowl of fruits. “I was just in the forest trying to experiment with new ingredients,”

Ace frowned watching Luffy shove a bunch of fruits in his mouth and not swallow, he wasn’t cautious of the female like the other two were. He seemed honestly carefree and it annoyed Ace a bit more fact she just smiled and laughed. Her laugh sounded like chiming bells in the quiet little forest. She smiled gently towards the others.

“I have plenty and would love your opinion,” she said still talking so gently.

“I am not hungry,” Ace lied his stomach giving a loud rumble in protest. He frowned glancing away and crossing his arms over his chest embarrassed as she laughed again. He hated her laugh he had to keep telling himself that he was enjoying it.

“Why are you here?” Sabo questioned the reason for the three boys. His own stomach rumbled too and she gave a gentle smile in response. Ace could feel his blood boil and glared at his brother who was unfazed by both the female and Ace.

“I am just here to test some food ingredients and didn’t want the house to smell,” she then turned towards the fire poking it. She gave her name to help the boys lower the guards. It fit her. Ace watched her as the gentle look on her face never faded. “I would love your opinion,” she said.

Ace growled, “Fine,” he snapped, “We are only staying because you need the protection a girl like you couldn’t possibly be able to fight and protect herself,” he took a seat next to Luffy and took a bite of one fruit she gathered he was still glaring at her. She smiled at him, having his heart race.

“Thank you,”

Sabo watched Ace with a raised eyebrow before shaking his head, it was obvious what was going on here and he wasn’t a fan but it was too late to stop it. He sat down watching Ace, Ace’s eyes never stirred away from the girl unless she looked at him. His brother had his first crush. And that was trouble but he would watch for now it would be funny too.

Author's note: disclaimer, this is my own interpretation based on what I've seen and some information I gathered from blogs here and there on the internet. I've wanted to do this for so long because I like to make and read fictions about certain characters but sometimes it can get too OOC (which is not my preference) so I'm making this to help me understand about the character more and write more accurate fics! Also english isn't my first language so forgive me if I worded it badly :'

Please read the disclaimer beforehand, I don't want people to misunderstand :'') and before that, I've seen people interpreting him a bit out of character, which is not really my preference when reading fanfics about him (which is ok and it is also totally ok if you're ok with it or you do prefer it) I don't blame people for making him have those "stereotypes" because it's a fic, it's up to their interpretation and it's fun. But I wanna dig a little deeper on his CANON characteristics.

Based on personality database, Ace's an ESTP. I've read some articles about it and did a little bit of research on it and I do agree that Ace's an ESTP.

ESTP people tend to be action-oriented, sociable and energetic. They tend to be straightforward risk-takers also, diving right into the action.

☆ We can see these traits of Ace, especially in his younger years when we get to know him more. Ace can be impulsive when it comes to action. He headbutts in first when it comes to a fight.

We can also see that Ace has trouble expressing his feelings in his younger years. He won't talk to Sabo or Luffy about his problems. But when it comes to something he thinks should be said, he's often blunt about it. He also refuses Garp's wish and wanted to become a pirate instead, despite Garp constantly arguing with him to become a marine instead. This shows Ace stands by his own will and he wants his freedom instead.

It is also shown in how he went against Whitebeard's order not to chase Teach. He was impatient and wanted to settle down the problems with Blackbeard, making him hasty which led to his, well, his time in impel down :/.

About Him

Enough about the data, let's talk about Ace overall from what we can see from One Piece.

I must say the data has already provided a rather accurate explanation/analysis of his character in One Piece but I'll sum up some more.

Despite the fact that during his younger years, we can see how rude of a kid he was, he matured up to be a rather polite lad. Apologizing for disrupting a family's meal because he broke some walls even searching for Shanks to say his thanks because of Luffy. In his younger years we also see that he struggles with his self-image and existential crisis, on how he questioned his entire existence while in his older years, it doesn't quite show that kind of a struggle.

It seems like he is finally at peace with his own existence and accepted the fact that he can't change that about himself as we can see in his interaction with Yamato in the later episodes. Though internally, I think he's still a little bit self-conscious given the thought of what he has been through as a child, it must've left some emotional scars but we don't know since that issue doesn't get shown much in the anime.

In conclusion, he had this character development and we got to see him grow from being a brat to a mature, easy-going young man that we know of Ace in One Piece.

Another point is that he's a good brother period. He's very protective of Luffy, Pre and Post Sabo's "death". Although I must say he was more of a "tsundere" when Sabo was still around. He's also passionate, a kind, good person, he always tries to keep his promises even though sadly he passed away before he could fulfil some of them :(. (Spoiler alert: I'm talking about Tama and Yamato)

What I recommend - A Headcanon

Ace... I would say I'm pretty flexible with Ace unlike Law, where I don't really like Law being out of character. Ace can be portrayed as cold or a ray of literal sunshine based on the situation the headcanons are in. I can picture him where he can come off as cold if he dislikes the (person), a bad boy in modern AU where he likes to fight but still keep up those playful manners of Ace, a literal sunshine because he likes (person) very much.

☆ Romantic tropes that I can see him in are friends to lovers, soulmates, crushes, and perhaps childhood friends to lovers.

But most definitely, I can see him in a platonic soulmates relationship with the reader since that's just kinda how Ace is tbh. Or a scenario where Ace likes you like romantically but he doesn't realise he's in love romantically is also a cute trope to think about (in a headcanon).

Crushes + friends to lovers is also another trope that I really like. A headcanon I like on this take is that he's really blushy when he realized that he has a crush. Even his ears and neck are red. This headcanon applies on both anime-oriented and modern setting. I could see Ace being the golden retriever boyfriend who likes to wear those college jersey jackets (although he likes being shirtless more), 99%. Also please consider him to be the clingy boyfriend, I might be biased but I would love to baby him, you get what I feel?

Talking about a type huh... That's definitely up to your interpretation but to me he lowkey gives me Itadori's ideal type vibes (big bust and all that stuff, probably jennifer lawrence too but leaning towards Nicki Minaj or Doja cat and maybe Harry Styles too) but that's just his outside cover you know. Like he didn't know you have to have a certain type so he just splat that out because people kept pushing him. So now he just tells people that if they get too annoying (my headcanon). I think you just have to be kind and loving. That's all it is to Ace if he does desire a partner.

On the other hand though... Is he really going to sit by and lose to a first-year? From Heartslabyul? Yeah right.

He's not going to outwardly challenge Ace, but that's because he doesn't really consider Ace to be someone worth openly challenging. At the very least he isn't going to give the first-year the satisfaction of knowing he got under his skin. He'll keep his cards close to his chest on this one (pun not intended) and focus more on you than his "competition."

Other than that it's a lot of the same as from the other post! Monopolizing your free time, giving you the occasional gift, using you as his human body pillow. But he's got the distinct advantage over Ace in the fact that he's a very smart upperclassman, so he'll help you out with your assignments if you're struggling.
