Clarifying beforehand that I am a Himejoshi first, person second, but I do find it really intriguing how most of the m/f league ships are more interesting than the slash ones. Which is a bit weird since, like most queer people, I tend to gravitate to. well. queer representation and subtext in media. Rakan/Xayah, Leblanc/Swain, Lucian/Senna, Ashe/Tryndamere, Garen/Katarina, Ahri/Yasuo, etc. have much more concise and compelling dynamics than half of the m/m ships in League.

And, of course, there’s commentary to be made. Het ships get to be explored better and more often than queer ones, so it’s not rocket science to see *why* they tend to have better dynamics. Buuut it still doesn't explain why most of the league yuri prevails over yaoi when it comes to intricacies and overall quality (taking for reference some like Neeko/Nidalee, Caitlyn/Vi, Diana/Leona, Kai'Sa/Taliyah, Scratch/Seraphine, Irelia/Liana, etc.). All the while, I can think of maybe 5 yaoi ships, at least a little canonically sourced, that have as many nuances, diversity, and conciseness.

Another point to be added is that even if the fandom gets more diverse with each passing year, a huge part of the player base is still toxic incels, to whom is inconceivable to see queer men in media because it threatens their pre-conceived notions of masculinity and what a relationship should even look like. So it becomes uncomfortable to see gay dudes in the silly video game!

Wlw relationships get to be better explored in lore because 1) it’s possible to at the same time drive a queer narrative and, with minor adjustments, turn it palpable to that same toxic player base’s consumption through fetishization, and 2) i feel like there’s a higher suspense of disbelief in society as a whole to disregard sapphic relationships as sisterly or platonic love (see the discourse that often surrounds the lesbian ships mentioned above).

And this is in no way meant to say “wlw have it better”, bad/silent representation is just as bad or arguably worse than nothing. It's just interesting to try to reason as to why League is less afraid of developing good and concise sapphic relationships while resorting to bland shit with achillean ones.

Bastienne, who has many names, but uses Lilith the most has the most info, yet I don't really know how to make her act- yk? Like her personality.

Bastienne is a postman and a waiter. So she has light experience with bringing in food and writing letters <- she mainly writes letters to a "human" idol; Lilith ( @alien-til-i-stage 's oc)

I just. Kinda made Bastienne on a whim, cuz of like. I had this idea of giving Sebastian (another OC) a twin, (funny thing is that Bastienne is one of the feminine versions of Sebastian!) cuz I just couldn't stop relating him to Hänsel from EC/Evillious Chronicles— who has a twin; Gretel and such.

That's why one of Bastienne's inspos is Gretel-

But yk..the idea kinda got scrapped and Bastienne is her own character with no real ties to both Flor and Sebastian, but some metaphorical and "what if" ties (clown, rebels, etc. rebel clown as been a main thing that I've been doing tbh... Flor is the main reason)

Orian, due to being on the run for a long while- she has gained some muscle! Same with the others ofc, but Orian is slightly more stronger then they are (Yuuki can somewhat match her strength but that's it)

Basti writes letters to a famous 'human' Model! Felix knows that something is up with them, but he doesn't really care as that's not his problem and such.

Felix seems to be nocturnal! <- for lore reasons, that will be explained later (on my @/yuuoseetaasria blog!)

Basti also joins with Felix in mimicking animal sounds ... The Critters™.

Felix has a sister who works for AREPH; an opposing group to the rebel group (for now, since the name is rlly yet to be decided on)

i can definitely give you some recs for wlw shows, although i need to give two little disclaimers first:

i actually know of only one european wlw show, so i hope it's okay if i expanded this list to include western shows in general ;;;;;;;;

networks and streaming platforms are my mortal enemies because they love cancelling sapphic shows after one or two seasons (AND FUCK THEM ALL FOR THAT TBH), but if i didn't put those series on the list, this would be very short and i also think we would be missing out on some great television, so im adding their status to let you know what to expect before getting into it

OKAY AND NOW WITHOUT FURTHER ADO LET'S GET INTO IT

a league of their own (comedy drama - 1 season - cancelled)

based on the 1992 film of the same name with new characters and storylines, the series, set in 1943, is about the formation of the rockford peaches, a women's team in the nascent all-american girls professional baseball league.

one of my favorites on this list and im so upset it got cancelled AMAZON PRIME YOU WILL PAY FOR YOUR CRIMES

anne+ (drama - 2 seasons + a movie - complete)

the one actual european wlw show of the list, this is a dutch drama series that follows the main character, anne, as she tries to navigate her early twenties as a young lesbian. upon bumping into her ex-girlfriend one day, anne reflects on how her past relationships have contributed to who she has become.

honestly for being from a smaller indie production this is such a relatable, engaging, and well-done series, i definitely recommend it!!!!

dickinson (historical comedy drama - 3 seasons - complete)

based on the life of emily dickinson, the series focuses on her relationships with her family, her friends, her society, and on her long-term romantic relationship with her childhood best friend and sister in law, sue.

another big favorite of mine, it's fun, wild, has an unique modern twist, and both hailee steinfeld and ella hunt are incredible

first kill (fantasy drama - 1 season - cancelled)

the series focus on the relationship between teenage vampire juliette fairmont, who needs to make her first kill in order to enter adulthood and take her place among her powerful family of legacy vampires, and calliope burns, who belongs to a monster-hunting family and needs to slay her first monster in order to gain her family's approval and officially become a hunter herself.

look, i know there are a lot of mixed reviews on this show, but personally i enjoyed it a lot. it's good, campy fun, and a breath of fresh air from the hetero love stories that pervade the genre

gentleman jack (historical drama - 2 seasons - cancelled)

based on the collected diaries of anne lister, which contain over four million words and are written in secret code, documenting a lifetime of lesbian relationships. the series starts in 1832, when anne leaves hastings brokenhearted and heads to halifax, to restore her uncle's estate that she has inherited. while restoring the estate, she finds that the family land has a coal mine that it's being stolen by two brothers and develops a relationship with a woman named ann walker.

genuinely SO UPSET about this one being cancelled, it was such a gorgeous show with the most delightful english humor and complex relationships WHY PEOPLE CAN'T RECOGNIZE QUALITY TELEVISION

gypsy (psychological thriller - 1 season - cancelled)

the series follows jean holloway, a therapist who seems to have it all, but who secretly obsesses over the people her patients talk about in their sessions. this leads her to seek out sydney, one of her patient's ex-girlfriend, with whom she starts developing a romantic relationship under a secret identity.

i wasn't sure whether to rec this or not because i have very mixed feelings about it like the concept is very intriguing to me but the execution wasn't the best imho. it's still a solid show tho, and naomi watts is. well, naomi watts

the haunting of bly manor (horror - 1 series - complete)

loosely based on the novella the turn of the screw by henry james, the series follows dani clayton, a young american woman hired as an au pair for the children of the wealthy wingrave family in england. after arriving at the bly estate, she begins to see apparitions that proceed to haunt the premises.

i personally LOVE all of mike flanagan's series, and this one is no exception, however (unpopular opinion) i do find the second half of it kinda lacking. it's still a fantastic show tho, and i adore victoria pedretti

killing eve (thriller - 4 seasons - complete [but at what cost])

the series follows eve polastri, a british intelligence investigator tasked with capturing an assassin named villanelle. as the chase progresses, the two develop a mutual obsession.

once again i wasn't sure whether to rec this or not because while the first two seasons of this show are honestly some of my all time favorite, and the third season is still acceptable, the last one is honestly one of the biggest disappointment i've ever experienced in television. still, i think it's a staple of wlw shows in the last decade so i had to include it

warrior nun (fantasy drama - 2 seasons - cancelled, but we should be getting a revival as a trilogy of feature films. hopefully)

the story follows ava silva, a a 19-year-old orphan who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. she discovers she is now part of the ancient order of the cruciform sword that has been tasked with fighting demons on earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.

when i tell you i was so skeptical when i started this show but it's honestly SO GOOD, it really has it all: talented cast, beautifully-written three-dimensional characters and relationships of all varieties, gorgeous cinematography, amazing fight scene choreography.......THEY BETTER DELIVER THOSE MOVIES OR IM GONNA BE SO UPSET

AND NOW LET ME ADD SOME SHOWS WITH WLW RELATIONSHIPS IN A BIGGER ENSEMBLE CAST

sense8 (scifi drama - 2 seasons - complete)

the story follows eight strangers as they discover that they form a cluster of "sensates": human beings who are mentally and emotionally linked, can sense and communicate with one another, and can share their knowledge, language and skills.

i don't think i could say something about this show that hasn't already been said tbh. it's wonderfully queer and explores issues related to identity, sexuality, gender, and politics. it's honestly a must watch.

the wilds (drama - 2 seasons - cancelled)

the series revolves around a group of teenage girls who are left stranded on a deserted island after their plane crashes on the way to the dawn of eve program, a young women's empowerment retreat. while the girls try to survive, they are unaware that they're actually the subjects of a social experiment.

AMAZON PRIME YOU WILL PAY FOR YOUR CRIMES PT. 2 STOP CANCELLING MY FAVORITE SHOWS 😭

yellowjackets (horror - 2 seasons - on going)

in 1996, a new jersey high school girls' soccer team travels to seattle for a national tournament. while flying over canada, their plane crashes deep in the wilderness, and the surviving team members are left stranded for nineteen months. the series follows both their attempts to stay alive in 1996 and the lives of the survivors 25 years later, in 2021, as the events of their ordeal continue to affect them many years after their rescue.

i. freaking. LOVE. this show!!!!!!!! but it also comes with a mile long list of trigger warnings, including cannibalism, SA, abuse, animal killing, etc. maybe it's silly to point this out considering the genre of the show, but still. just be safe if you do decide to watch it!!!!!!

and this is pretty much it!!!! this is obviously not a comprehensive list, im aware i left out some popular shows and other ones that feature sapphic relationships between side characters, but these are my personal favorites and they also feel like the series where the wlw part of the story is fairly front and center, at least imho ;;;;;;;;

What was your inspiration for writing your graphic novel?

Heathen began with a simple Ren Faire costume design, I wanted to go as a barbarian, and the outfit I came up with wasn't far off from what Aydis wears in the book. After that I found myself drawing it again and again, and realized it was developing into a character. So the next steps were obvious; give her a horse and then write her a story. 

List your favorite graphic novels or comics from when you were a child and talk about how you see them as an adult.

I never got the chance to read any comics as a kid. I was too busy obsessing over a different Eyewitness book every month and then later Mary Higgins Clark mysteries and Lurlene McDaniel romance books. I got into comics in college after my English Comp teacher assigned Maus, and from there I sought out the classics like V for Vendetta, Persepolis, and some Sandman. I've always been a seasonal kind of reader, sometimes I'm devouring everything I can, other times I almost forget books exist. Just how I'm wired I suppose. 

List your favorite graphic novels this year and why you like them.

I've honestly only read one so far this year, but it was a great one! Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me by Mariko Tamaki and Rosemary Valero-O'Connell. It's so refreshing to read about queer characters who are neither role models nor tragedies (both are perfectly valid, just oversaturated). They're just normal kids with normal relationship problems that they have to learn to navigate. I really enjoy down-to-earth stories like that. 

Talk about your favorite kind of character to write about

I love messy flawed characters, the kind who want to be better but aren't quite sure how to go about it. I also love writing flirty characters, they're hands down the most fun to write. And if a flirt happens to be messy and flawed themself, well that's the perfect combination. 

Talk about your least favorite kind of character to write about

This is a difficult one, because if I were to describe the kind of character I don't like I'd inevitably be describing the kind of people I don't like  and I try to find the likable part of anyone I'm writing. Otherwise it's hard to empathize with them, and empathy is the most important part. I guess I'd say I find it hard to write about people who find joy in being cruel. 

Describe your ideal writing space.

Comfy chair with a foot rest, view of the forest or a field, music playing, unlimited access to some kind of sweet treat like peach rings or twizzlers, and plants to fuss over while I run through scenes and dialog in my head. 

Describe your ideal home library.

I'd love to have floor to ceiling shelves, with one of those rolling ladders. Everything is organized by Library of Congress call number system (I worked as a university librarian for a while), and it's dust and mold free somehow. And there's a big pile of cushions and pillows to lay in to read. 

What are some of your favorite video games?

I'm really into Ark: Survival Evolved right now, I enjoy finding and taming all my favorite dinosaurs and building things. I also play Phasmophobia, Minecraft, Katamari, House Flipper, and I like colony sim games like Oxygen Not Included and Banished.

Happy birthday, Adrienne Rich!

Adrienne Cecile Rich, born May 16, 1929, in Baltimore, Maryland, and died March 27, 2012, in Santa Cruz, California, was an American poet, essayist, and feminist. She was called "one of the most widely read and influential poets of the second half of the 20th century", and was credited with bringing "the oppression of women and lesbians to the forefront of poetic discourse." Rich criticized rigid forms of feminist identities and valorized what she coined the "lesbian continuum," which is a female continuum of solidarity and creativity that impacts and fills women's lives.

Her first collection of poetry, A Change of World, was selected by renowned poet W. H. Auden for the Yale Series of Younger Poets Award. Auden went on to write the introduction to the published volume. Chronicled my parisian save in my drafts, because I had a blast. Might aswell post it now that I’ve shelved it for the update.

It started because I wanted to see the new childhood events in the Friends & Foes DLC, so I made a random baby in 867 France. I also wanted a trait I had never played before, it fell on barren.

Eglantine, chaste lazy compassionate countess of Amiens & Clermont, was a-go. (VERY LONG post with images below, best viewed in dashboard)

In her childhood, she befriended a dutch nobliau from nearby Ypres via the meet peers event; his dad refused the proposal because Eglantine was barren, and he eventually got engaged to someone else, but they became lovers in their 20s, then later, soulmates.

She married someone for the council job, but after organizing a threesome to “help Eglantine explore her bisexuality”, her husband then tried to hide that the other woman, who was both their lover, was now bearing his child. She divorced him and married him immediately to their lover.

She finally bore the child of her childhood friend and soulmate, at 44, right when I began accepting I would lose the game.

Miracle child, compassionate ambitious honest Adelinde, had a wonderful childhood, but when her mother died and she became a ruler of her own, I realized I was playing the same game twice, countess all alone with zero family member, no ally, barren. Adelinde even had the added bonus of being a lesbian, so couldn’t keep male lovers, only have sex once during a seducing scheme.

Surprisingly, having an heir was the easy part, with the many fertility artifacts Eglantine had collected in her life. A saxon boy who had showed up parentless at Eglantine’s court, whom she recruited and raised alongside Adelinde, was picked as co-parent. She was pregnant on the second try. He was also gay, married to our best friend the spymaster and lived peacefully at our court.

By that point, France had imploded and no longer existed, and Amiens and Clermont were but two independant counties, in a sea of independant counties other kingdoms were more than happy to swallow whole. I needed a duchy.

Enter Yngvar.

Remember Adelinde’s secret dad, count of Ypres ? After France’s implosion, when I looked for her secret siblings, who should have inherited at that point, I found Yngvar, duke of Flanders. The only surviving son of a minor danish chief, he went on a varangian adventure, and decided north of France was his, actually. There he was, living his best life, merry and boisterous. He took a liking to his young neighbor Adelinde, befriending her, and regularly sending her poems (everytime it was off cooldown it feels like).

Yngvar had a 12k army left over from his adventure, and suddenly the nearby kingdoms of Brittany and Lotharingia, who had swallowed the counties I needed for the duchy of Valois, didn’t seem so scary with this prospective ally.

The only flaw in my plan was, he refused to marry my newborn daughter to his infant son matrilineally, but the babies were engaged anyway, and I could declare all the wars I wanted, throwing my puny 1k army at kingdoms, with Yngvar desperately running after my troups to save my ass, time and time again.

I got my duchy but the stress took its toll on Adelinde, who abdicated, leaving me to sort out heir situation for compassionate diligent arrogant Alix.

I am aware I could have broken off the engagement between the children but you have to understand 1) I was really, extremely grateful to Yngvar and 2) Alix’s husband, like his dad before him, was the only son surviving to adulthood. Like this dynasty was cursed to only have one child a generation, reminding me of my own situation.

Besides, having been engaged since birth, they were both really fond of each other. They had six kids together, that Alix could raise despite belonging to a court in another country, and when viking husband died of pox in their early 40s, the parting text was surprisingly romantic for a lesbian. Oh yeah, Alix was also a lesbian.

His death was honestly the best case scenario. I was hoping he would die young enough for Alix to have a kid belonging to her own dynasty, but I didn’t expect it working out so well.

Alix remarried, using the find spouse option which I never do (too boring !), but as we had been so busy raising six children, and also, I need to stress this, she was a lesbian, finding someone as narratively important as her first husband, and fast enough to conceive while she was still fertile, didn’t seem likely.

We picked this german guy, who already had a daughter, a fact I only became aware of when he asked me to sponsor said daughter. I actually really liked her, invited her to my court, arranged her marriage, raised her kids. She later became the right hand to her half sister, my heir.

Speaking of the heir, Alice, here are traits she could have inherited: -barren, Alix didn’t have it but I assume it was still in her DNA -dwarf, like her dad, the one I was hoping for -slow, quick, or intelligent, her mom having intelligent and her dad slow

Here is the trait she actually got out of nowhere: beautiful. A trait I would soon came to hate because it would not go away for generations and it makes for very bland characters. No freckles, no moles, no interesting features, just basic white bitches from that point onward.

Alice did one thing right by me though: she fell in love with her childhood friend, yet another parentless kid showing up at my court I felt obligated to raise because I’m not a monster.

Said kid was actually the son of a Karling woman, his great uncle had been the last king of France before the implosion. If they didn’t get together on their own, I would have married them later.

Now, let’s take a moment to check on her siblings. Remember, the six kids Alix had with her viking husband ?

When their dad died, the three eldest became rulers. That’s the eldest daughter and the bearded twins. One twin immediately attacked his sister and asked his mom to join the war, which she did so it would end quicker with less bloodshed. Since the twins were now ruling the duchy of Flanders on their own, Alix gave counties from Valois to the rest of them, found them spouses, then left them to their own devices once they were set and happy.

One day, I looked around and realized that while Alix was busy marrying her doppelganger (long story), Lotharingia, my old nemesis, had swallowed Flanders, yet I never got called to a defensive war.

Alix died soon after, and compassionate calm arrogant Alice, heralding the basic white bitch era, immediately got attacked by her brothers the viking twins. (Ignore my foray into cosmetic mods, it was short lived)

Alice’s entire reign was marked by defensive wars, and our dwindling fortune going to mercenaries’ pockets. Everyone had it out for her. Her perfect husband, the love of her life, died in one of those wars, leaving her with two young children. She remarried to some guy I honestly have no memory of, and had two more kids. I don’t remember any more about this era or her death than I do her second husband.

New ruler, first born daughter, had a name but I only remember her as Barbie. She’s probably the one who ruled the longest, but outside of the game deciding rakish was the best coping mechanism for my chaste asexual ruler, nothing noteworthy happened. First asexual ruler of the dynasty, she never married and never had kids, knowing she had enough siblings to get away with it.

But really, it’s because a perfect candidate for her husband showed up during Alice’s rule, but I didn’t save as I was losing a war. I never recovered.

Compassionate lazy chaste Barbie did two very important things in her life, first rebuilt the family fortune to twice what it ever was, and second, she swore fealty to Lotharingia, who had gotten bigger and bigger, once I realized a descendant of Alix was the ruler. All of Alix’s viking children had had children of their own, who intermarried, and somehow the dynasty were now ruling the biggest kingdom around. I suspect that’s why the twins or their kids swore fealty to Lotharingia in the first place, to take it from the inside.

The very last thing she did as a ruler, damning her immortal soul in the process, was assasinate her old crummy bishop when it was revealed he took her only niece as his lover. As she was generally awful in intrigue, she asked her niece and nephews to assist, which they all did, including the niece whose very lover they were trying to kill. This was me making amends, as I had never once paid attention to Barbie’s family during her life; I was on that money grind, too used to my one character generations.

It was now time to play the first male ruler of our dynasty, hopefully the last. Snorri was never supposed to rule; you see, Barbie’s brother had two sons, and fickle paranoid gregarious Snorri was the youngest. However, the oldest son, much more interesting, was serving as a religious figure for most of his adult life and could not inherit according to the game, something I didn’t notice until it was too late to do something about. The two brothers were best friends and always hanging out together so I didn’t mind that much..

Snorri is a surprising name for a frenchman, that’s because he was named after his grandfather: one of Alix’s kids, whose daughter somehow ended up married to Barbie’s brother, merging the two bloodlines together. I would soon see that yellow coat of arms with a Þ everywhere.

After the death of its king, Lotharingia became three separate kingdoms ruled by three siblings, France, Lotharingia, and Germania, and here is their family tree. That’s three (3) of Alix’s kids on the first line. From that point onward, I realized I didn’t have one, but two dynasties to look after, although the second one seemed to be doing very well without me.

The kingdom of France was back from the dead, with its capital somewhere in the duchy of Flanders because at that point, I had been ruling over Paris for more than a hundred years and I was not giving it up.

Snorri married his cousin Alice, also known as avenged niece, because I didn’t trust her to not get involved with another weird old man. They were really happy together, soulmates with 4 kids, or at least as happy as possible with a paranoid ruler doubting the child was his, every single pregnancy. Alice’s brothers also had kids, and the cousins growing up together was the first time it felt like an actual dynasty. We were 7 generations in at that point.

When he died, Snorri was remembered for huh, being a deviant with autoerotic asphyxiation tendencies, according to the game, but to me his biggest feat was joining every war the stupid king of France got into, and winning them all; he is the sole reason France didn’t become Lotharingia again.

Just ambitious diligent Bellesa (actually called Belleassez) was the first ruler with a smart-type trait since Alix, quick, despite both her parents only having variations of beautiful. For that alone, she was already pretty high on my list of favorites.

I didn’t have the luxury of waiting to organically meet a potential spouse, the way I usually like to play my characters: I needed prestige and I needed it fast to reform my new parisian culture, so I just picked whoever gave me the most of it, an indian princeling.

Her era was mostly me panicking that my dynasty got too big to keep track of. and trying to find a good coat of arms. Here is her losing one of the 5 kids I do not even remember us having, something that became an unwanted tradition as the next three generations would also lose one kid young.

It was also my first time in this game actually caring about my siblings AND my cousins and making sure they were thriving.

She abdicated of stress to her first born, honest trusting ambitious Samanta, named after what is technically the title of one of her paternal ancestors but nevermind that.

Samanta’s era was mostly trying to micromanage the two dynasties, making sure branches that would go extinct without my intervention were brought back into the fold, giving titles to those I could.

She also pulled a cask of amontillado on two pregnant women. One was in the way of marrying her childhood friend (from meet peers) whom I had decided would father our children while Samanta was busy having many female lovers including the queen of France; the other walled in woman was because she wanted to marry a prince of France to a distant relative. Neither woman was pregnant when the murder schemes were started, and it’s kind of weird that it happened the same way twice.

Marrying that childhood friend proved a bad idea, because he was a count in another french duchy, but his mother was one of our vassal, and weirdly her son didn’t inherit when she died; instead the county went to my 6yo daughter and heir, now living as a grown-up outside my court.

Fortunately, it only lasted about six years as Samanta died in her early 40s leaving me to play her 12yo kid. Her birth name was Héloïse but when I saw how much she resembled a young Claire Danes in Romeo + Juliet, she was renamed Juliette.

Despite having played part of her childhood, forgiving ambitious stubborn Juliette did not form close ties with anyone, and no Romeo ever came her way, as she was asexual. She married a french princeling who immediately cheated on her with her cousin, and they divorced less than a year into the marriage.

Juliette’s era was also dynasty management and giving titles to as many relatives as I could, because the king kept giving me duchies I did not want. Maybe over gratitude for the family tradition Snorri established, of winning wars for the foolhardy King of France, that we never stopped doing. I didn’t want any more duchy because I was playing tall and focusing on my two counties, and I keep tabs on almost all my relatives all the time anyway, might aswell make them landed.

It was also the era of going back to the french culture we diverged from, because I was finally powerful enough to become culture head. (The french royals were now welsh for some reason)

She eventually (10 years later) married some intelligent and club-footed guy to spice things up now that we were finally free of the beautiful trait, but he turned out to be a cannibal. At that point we already had had (and lost) kids so whatever, keeping him. Outside of the flesh eating thing, he was very nice !

Our heir, ambitious calm vengeful Rosaline, proving to me once and for all that marrying your heir before they’re playable is a mistake, decided to cheat on her very sweet andalusian husband, father of her newborn baby, with a crummy old man, and out of desperation of not being able to break them up, I kept her under house arrest until he died.

It took 12 years, her entire young adulthood, and she hated me for it, but she resumed her life afterwards, having another kid with her husband, even forgiving her mother shortly before her death. No I don’t know either why I didn’t just kill him.

Fate came at her with her vengeance, when the teen daughter she didn’t see grow up for 12 years was roped in a relation with her own crummy old man, got pregnant, then died protecting him of her mother’s assassin.

A lot of things happened very fast in less than 2 years after that event: Juliette had her second son by her husband at 45, got seduced by the heir to the Kingdom of France, somehow got pregnant despite her age, had a legitimized bastard daughter, his first born child, so second in line for the throne, and her husband got murdered. It’s like she took all the years she missed out on living under house arrest, and decided to cram them in two.

Bastard princess and last baby was called Adelinde, a throwback to the first baby of this dynasty who also arrived very late. Unfortunately, she got a beautiful trait from her father, just when I thought I was free of it for good.

That’s where I stopped playing, because I didn’t vibe with being the kingdom of France. I had changed succession laws to female preference at some point, and Rosaline only had two surviving sons from her marriage.

I might pick it up again someday, but my norse-gael game, started when Northern Lords released, is still trying to recover from patches, and I have a feeling Tours and Tournaments will not be kind to existing saves.

I learned a lot though, about playing tall, about warfare, about the kind of gameplay I enjoy. A blast.

Hey hey HEYYYYYYY it's 2022 Nanbaka Survey Results Time!!!

No I have not forgotten about the survey, I have just been quite busy in reality land. Today we are going to break down some of the data I collected over the past 2 months!!!

First things first, WE HAD PARTICIPATION. Like 95 people summited there info in contrast to the 30 ish people who submitted last year!! The main reason is probably because I had more connections, but I am still gooped gabed and gobsmacked at the amount of people who participated this year!!!

Also, in this year's survey, I got a bit more personal! For example, the who's your favorite character and how far are you in the manga questions, which I will elaborate more on when it is their time to shine!

I asked the question for one reason and one reason only, to give people the resources so they can CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE SERIES. and get to know all of the characters. Since Pocket comics is not working out so well for Nanbaka, I will give some Sho approved resources so your can read it in English and/or truck through it in Japanese. (Because that's pretty much what I do since not all of the manga is translated. You just gotta pretend you know what's going on.)

So there are some main categories for people in the survey,

1. The people who just watched the anime to the end.

If you feel content that's awesome, but also resources.

2. People who have felt the magic disappear, and where just done. (They don't truly have any interest in reading further)

It is the dreaded number of doom. It the last chapter available "illegally" on the internet, and is the last chapter formated by the legendary sleepykat.

“Alright, how does a trip home sound?” The Doctor asked her several companions after another successful adventure. Everyone agreed to it, yourself included, and the Doctor smiled and started to put in the co-ordinates. “How long till you want me to pick you up?” 

“Three days?” Yaz suggested.

“Sounds good! I’ll drop you lot off at the Winter Garden, meet me back there in 3 days, alright?” The doctor announced, getting the TARDIS in motion. Soon the ship landed, everyone walking off the TARDIS, waving their temporary goodbyes. You however, stood and lent on the TARDIS. “What about you?” The Doctor asked, noticing you hadn’t turned to leave.

“Actually…” You dragged on, turning to face her, still leaning on the TARDIS. “I was wondering if you wanted to spend some time with me?” You suggested, immediately her face lit up like when you ask a dog if they want to go for a walk or if they want a treat. “I remember you saying you’ve not been to the movies or an aquarium. What do you say?” 

“Yeah! Duh!” She immediately agreed, closing the TARDIS door behind herself, and locking arms with you, giving a tight squeeze as you started your walk to the nearest cinema.

The day was a blur of fun and happiness. You recommended some movies to the Doctor but let her choose, and of course she chose a historic recreation movie, and she would whisper things they got right and wrong to you during the movie, which only made you smile, and then you decided to watch another movie, this one a sci fi, with 3D glasses and everything. When the movie finished, the Doctor stole your glasses and tucked them into her pocket with her own pair, claiming she was adding them to her collection before going into some story about Cybermen and a Rose? She was talking too quickly for you to actually follow along, but you didn’t interrupt, instead just trying to follow along as this story apparently linked to another story to do with Daleks. The doctor only stopped her story when she saw a certain cafe- a cat Cafe, and eagerly asked if you could go in for a drink, which you agreed to. The doctor admittedly didn’t do a lot of drinking, and more cuddling cats and having full conversations with them, telling you how she spoke cat in a matter of fact tone, even at one point dropping one into your lap saying it liked you, and to your surprise it curled up in your lap. 

“It’s getting dark… I don’t think the Aquarium will be open at this time.” The doctor commented as you walked out the cafe, looking up at the sky that was going from dark blue, to purple, to red to orange from the sun setting behind the city buildings around you. 

“That’s fine, we can go tomorrow! How about you have a sleepover at mine for tonight? I could order takeout?” You suggested to her, her disappointed pout turning back to a gleeful smile. 

You got home, calling up the best takeaway place you knew in the area, leaving the Doctor to look through your DVD collection for a new movie, or even a tv series. When you hung up, you walked to your kitchen to make some hot drinks before the Doctor decided on what to watch and called you to inform you, so you brought the drinks in to her, and she took hers off of you to take a sip before she pulled a face when it burnt her mouth, making you laugh as you set yours down on the coffee table. “Alright, food will be here in 25 minutes.” You  informed her, sitting down with her on your settee. 

“Today’s been nice… what else are we going to do tomorrow and the day after?” She asked you. You turned to her as well, smiling softly. 

“Whatever you want.”

“Um… hello?” 

The confused face of Cress’ next apartment neighbor searched her own, and Cress wondered if it was too late to back out.  They’d made eye contact exactly once  before, when they’d gotten in the elevator together. The girl had returned her smile, so Cress figured she was nice enough. 

A singular smile was probably not the best basis for asking a favor of someone at 7am. Especially this kind of favor. And talking to strangers was very high up on the list of “things Cress hates.” 

It was definitely too early for this. 

Then the sight of the spider that had crawled across her keyboard filled her mind and she shuddered in her slippers.

“Erm… hi.” Cress wound her hand in her hair, very aware that it was early and she’d probably just woken this girl up. However, as she looked her neighbor up and down, Cress realized that she looked very much awake- with a smudge of grease over her eye and hands covered in work gloves.

She also realized that grease, googles, and all, her neighbor was pretty.

Talking to strangers was one, very stressful, thing, but pretty strangers she was attracted to? Abort, abort. 

“Come in?” Cress was grateful as the stranger pushed the door open, despite the fact that she hadn’t managed to come up with anything to say. Cress shuffled in, her overlong t-shirt she’d slept in brushing her knees. Despite the grease stained work tank top her neighbor was wearing, she still had sleep shorts on, which made Cress feel a little better about being in her pjs. 

Cress cleared her throat awkwardly, her hands straying to braid her hair subconsciously. “I’m Cress, and I live next door?”

Great initiative! You sounded like you were asking her a question!

“Cinder.” The girl- Cinder- introduced herself hesitantly. “Nice to meet you?”

“Can you help me get rid of a spider?”  Cress blurted, hands in her hair coming to a standstill.

Cinder looked slightly taken aback, but bemused. “Sure?”

Cress breathed an internal sigh of relief. Thank God. She isn’t even looking at me like I’m weird. 

“I was finishing an assignment when a huge one went across my keyboard, and it was, like, three inches long. Well maybe not that big, but you get the point. I hate spiders… ” She realized she was starting to ramble and flushed, strangling her hands in her hair. “I’m sorry to bother you, especially in the morning.” She emphasised.

Cinder shrugged. “It’s no problem, I was up early working on an assignment anyways.”

The assurance gave Cress barely any relief. “I can offer you food?” She added, hoping to smooth over the fact that she existed.

Cinder laughed, and the slight tension in the room was released. “In that case, I’m sold.”

Cress peered over Cinder's shoulder, and caught sight of a workbench pushed against the corner of the room. Perched on the edge was what looked like… 

“A bot?”  Cress loved coding AI tech, and was actually majoring in computer science.

“Yeah, I’m a mechanic, well technically an engineer, but I do some other personal projects on the side.”

“That’s so cool!” Cress felt her grip loosen from it’s anxious hold. “I’m a coder, and AI tech is some of my favorite.” 

“Really? I have a bot named Iko, and she’s been mentioning something about color changing eyes? While she loves my physical additions and such, I’m sure she’d appreciate some technological improvements.”

Cress beamed. “Wow, a personal bot? I’d love to check her out sometime!”

“That would be great.” Cinder held her gaze for half a second, before they both looked away. It might’ve been Cress’ ever overactive imagination, but she could’ve sworn she felt sparks. Then again, that happened every time her useless lesbian self made eye contact with a pretty girl, but still.

What is this, a rom-com?

Cinder cleared her throat, before leading them to the door. “Show the way?”

Cress leapt at the opportunity immediately, leading them to her apartment. Cress pushed open the door, forcing herself not to jump away as soon as it opened a crack.

“I’ll go first.” Cinder must’ve noticed her anxiety, and she gave her a comforting smile that both soothed Cress’ heart and made it beat more erratically.

Taking a steadying breath, Cress followed Cinder in, leaving the door open in case she needed to make a quick exit.

Cinder grabbed a glass from the counter, which also made Cress feel lighter. Setting spiders free was better than killing them, even if they were spiders the size of her thumb.

“By your laptop right?” Cinder gestured to the work table, and Cress nodded with a nervous gulp. 

A leg crawled up and over the desk and Cress jumped, clinging to Cinder. The tan girl sagged under the sudden weight, one arm coming up to support her from underneath.

The sudden touch made Cress freeze. She realized her arms were wrapped around Cinder’s neck, and she was clinging rather tightly. I just quite literally jumped into a super cute stranger’s arms. Stars help me.

Cress considered hopping down, when the spider ran across the floor by Cinder’s feet.  She squeaked, and clung tighter. She vaguely thought of how awkward this must be to Cinder, but there no fucking way she was touching the same ground the spider was on. 

Also, Cinder was remarkably buff and did not seem to be struggling at all. 

Must be all the mechanic work? Cress thought with a slight flush.

Stop thinking about a girl’s muscles! We’re in the middle of a crisis here!

Cinder scuffed her foot, and the spider raced back up to the table. Cress winced, and watched through partially closed eyes in awe as with her free hand, Cinder dropped the cup upturned on the spider.

“I got it!” Cinder’s voice was right besides her ear, and Cress widened her eyes. The spider was indeed secure in the glass, and Cinder’s hair was in her eye.

With a blush, she fully realized her position once more. Her heart sped even faster than before, which she didn’t know was possible. Cinder smelled of car grase and faintly cinnamon. A combination that was shockingly attractive. The thought made her flush even deeper, as was the fact that her bare legs were gripping a small strip of the neighbor’s midsection where her shirt had ridden up.

“Ahaha,” Cress laughed awkwardly, doing a weird shoulder pat thingy. “Thank you.” Is this flirting? 

Cinder tilted her head to look at Cress, and from their position, the movement made their faces remarkably close. With yet another squeak, Cress dropped to the ground so fast she stumbled.

“You’re welcome.” Cinder’s voice was bemused as she bit her lip in an attempt not to smile. It was distracting, but soon Cress was giggling. Cinder joined her, and all her anxiety melted. 

“Alright, there’s still Part 2.” Cinder cautioned, gesturing to the spider. Cress considered it. 

“We can drop it in the flowersill.” Cress suggested, gesturing to the window.

“Flowersill?” Cinder repeated.

“Oh.” Cress flushed a tiny bit in embarrassment again. “I don’t exactly know the word for it but like, those cute little flower beds that attach to windows?”

Cinder shrugged with a smile. “Works for me.”

After poking around a bit, Cress came back with a piece of paper. Cinder bit back a smile again, and Cress found her gaze pulled to her lips. “This part might get a little scary, if you need to hop in my arms again.” She said it wryly, teasingly, but Cress suppressed the urge to bury her head in her hands and disappear forever.

Rather than jumping into Cinder’s arms again, she settled for hopping on the counter and keeping all parts of her body away from the table and floor. From her new perch, Cress watched as Cinder slid the paper under and brought the spider to the window to release it. 

Breathing a sigh of relief, Cress gave Cinder a wide smile when she turned back to her. Cinder smiled back, and her eyes crinkled. Cress’ heart fluttered again.

“So… grease huh?” Cress realized what a weird conversation starter that was and blushed as Cinder raised an eyebrow.

“Huh?”

“Well- you smelled like it and there was some above your eyes and well-” Cress stuttered to a rambling stop because she really didn’t know how to explain why she said that. She didn’t know why she said that.

“Oh.” It was Cinder’s turn to blush as she scrubbed at her eye. The grease stubbornly remained, and Cinder’s nose was wrinkling with concentration through the effort. Cress tried to repress a smile, but it was impossible.

“Here, let me help.” Reaching to the side, she picked up a cloth off the counter. Running it under water until it was damp, Cress gestured Cinder forward. Hesitantly, her neighbor stepped towards her, and Cress lifted the cloth. Carefully, she brushed away a few strands of hair, and Cinder’s breath hitched a bit. Cress thought hers did too. She gently rubbed at the grease, and with the soap on the cloth, it came off of Cinder’s reddening face with little effort. 

“Maybe we should try a collab sometime?” Cinder seemed to almost blurt it, catching Cress by such surprise she almost dropped the cloth. The moment had felt like a pause, and the disruption startled her. The girl had seemed so calm and collected, but the chink in the armor was just as nervous as Cress.

Despite her initial surprise, she glowed at the suggestion to spend more time getting to know her cute next door neighbor, and resisted jumping off the counter and spinning.

“That would be amazing.” Cress hopped a bit in excitement, and Cinder gave her a fond smile.

“Do you want to stay for breakfast?” Cress wasn’t sure what compelled her to ask, and she buried her hands back in her brown tangle of hair.

“Oh!” Cinder seemed pleasantly surprised, and Cress beamed. “That would be great!”

“How do pancakes sound?” Cress crossed to the fridge, practically buzzing with excitement as Cinder followed right behind her.

“Amazing. And can I help?” Cinder was right at her shoulder and Cress nodded, uncertain if she could find coherent words as she got out the supplies for pancakes.

Cinder grabbed a bowl that was, unbeknownst to her, filled with pancake powder.  Her face lifted in shock  as it poofed out of the bowl, covering her features in a layer of powder. Their laughs mingled as they poured water into the mix, and Cress felt lighter than she had in weeks. Cinder took to sitting while Cress heated the stove and got the eggs going. Occasionally, she would sneak a look over at powder-covered Cinder and grin to herself. One time she almost burnt the eggs as she got distracted.

"Here." Taking a dishrag from the stove handle, Cress swiped it quickly around Cinder's face - considering - a little too late that she just should've just given the rag to her. Two times in one day!

Cinder coughed a bit, her hands going to fiddle with the ends of her sleeves as she leaned back on her heels, pink in the cheeks.

"Thanks." She managed. Cress smiled, plating the eggs and getting ready to start cooking the pancakes.

After a few minutes, they had settled into a steady conversation about their studies and work. Cress filled with excitement as they discussed plans to build a robot that could make them ice cream. It had started as a joke, but the more they talked about it, the more realistic the idea became.

"I would make sure it has strawberry for myself." Cress was saying. "What about you."

"Butter pecan." Cinder responded immediately.

"Oooh, good choice. French vanilla would be my second."

"Me too!" Cinder replied. "Nothing wrong with a classic."

"Agreed!"

The more they conversed, the more Cress was enamored with Cinder's wit and sharp mind. She'd always been a romantic, falling in love quickly. But she'd learned her lesson in the past, and was happy to bide her time and truly get to know Cinder.

A timer on her phone rang, and Cress jumped.

"My first class is in 15 minutes."

"Oh!" Cinder stood up as well. "Yeah.. here's my number." She scribbled it on a napkin. Cress grinned as she wrote hers on another napkin.

Handing it off to Cinder, their fingers brushed. It was far from the first contact they’d had this morning, but it filled Cress with a feeling of hope nonetheless.

Cinder tipped her head, giving Cress a simultaneously sweet and wry smile. “Call me if you see any more spiders.”

Cress laughed, waving at Cinder on her way out. “Will do.” 

She knew that spiders weren’t the only thing she’d be calling about.

The Best Yuri of 2019

2019 was a challenging year for many, in and out of the anime community, which is still reeling from the horrific attack at Kyoto Animation’s first studio in July that killed 36 people. However, I want to take this moment, as we start a new decade, to reflect on some of the greatest achievements in Yuri.

2019 marked the genre’s 100th anniversary, 100 years since Nobuko Yoshiya released her landmark lesbian novel Yaneura no Nishojo that shaped and created Yuri as we know it. It was possible Yuri’s best years ever, as more incredible titles were released and localized, we experienced fantastic events and moments, and more. This article is part of my continuing celebration of all things Yuri!

Note that many of the works mentioned came out before 2019, but they either were first released in English during 2019 or hit particular high points during this year. Now then, here is the best of Yuri in 2019!

15: SukeraSparo

This Japanese Yuri visual novel developer is starting to reach new heights as they set their sights on releasing new and innovate Yuri titles. The English release of The Expression Amrilato, an educational Yuri visual novel that teaches the player Esperanto, was one of the most unique and creative works I have the pleasure of playing this year. But, they outdid themselves this year, releasing a sequel, Itsuka no Memorajxo, creating one of the most beautiful Yuri games in Folklore of Kudan, and founding a sister brand, SukeraSomero, “to fill the world with YURI!”

14: Mage & Demon Queen

This outrageous and vivacious webcomic hits its stride in Season 2. After setting a solid foundation, this masterpiece by Kuru “Color-LES” is finally able to explore some more interesting plot lines such as its characters’ pasts, conflicts between the demons and humans, and figuring out who’s gonna be the bottom (it’s Malori, it was always going to be Malori). It is chock full of modern humor and moments I can only describe as hilariously kinky, while rarely feeling gross of sleazy. I can only wait to see what is next for these star-crossed lovers.

13: Yuri Anthologies

In 2018, Yen Press gave us the first hint of some Yuri anthologies starting to squeak into the West with Éclair, but 2019 threw the floodgates open! New works are coming out in both Japan and the West, featuring multiple artists coming together to create works featuring workplace romance, isekai, first-time stories, and even MARRIAGE!! Additionally, creators released volumes collecting their various short stories, like Rouge Nagashiro’s Eve and Eve, and some series saw multiple artists contribute to an already established world such as in the Bloom Into You Anthologies.

12: SHWD

Sono’s science fiction Yuri doujinshi series, published in English by Lilyka, is everything I did not know I wanted in a Yuri series. It showcases pulse-pounding action as the women of the “Special Hazardous Waste Disposal” fight to take down the horrific Dynamis. It has musclebound beasts of women that exude strength, power, and femininity at all times. And it has a compelling story about overcoming personal conflicts and learning to rely on others.

11: If I Could Reach You

No other series this year delivered an emotional gut-punch like If I Could Reach You. This tragic and beautiful manga by tMnR follows a young girl as she attempts hopelessly to overcome her attraction to her brother’s wife. Everything from the artwork to the dialogue masterfully communicates the devastation and pain that the protagonist Uta feels. It is beautiful and devastating, and I carry every awesome moment on my mind continuously.

Honorable mention: SQ/Tamen de Gushi/Their Story 

2019 was a little bit of a slow year for Tan Jiu’s webtoon, thanks to an extended hiatus, especially when compared to 2018’s triumphant and spectacular storyline. However, small moments of genius like Sun Jing’s father’s phenomenal visual monologue keep this work in peak form top and my heart. I hope that its recent Japanese serialization on Comic Walker help even more people enjoy it.

10: Still Sick

In my recent review, I called this workplace romance a “Yuri manga for Yurijin,” and there is no way I could come up with a more apt description. Still Sick surprised me with its self-awareness, knowledge, and commentary on the genre. It has an incredibly deep story about two complex and layered characters that ignite each other’s passion, in more ways than one.

9: Going Beyond Girl Meets Girl

Yuri stories tend to repeat the same story, two girls meet, they fall for each other, they get together, THE END! The past decade or so has finally seen more stories adding sexual elements, in contrast to earlier S works, and some even explored the dating life of two schoolgirls. However, we have recently seen something remarkable: works featuring couples “graduating” (literally or metaphorically) and enter the real world. Series like Citrus, Kase-san, and, briefly, Bloom Into You explore the relationships as they exit the honeymoon phase and get into the meat of lesbian livelihood.

8: Nagata Kabi

Over the past few years, Nagata Kabi has redefined what the Yuri genre can be. Her powerful autobiographical manga essays My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness, My Solo Exchange Diary, and Genjitsu Touhi Shitetara Boroboro ni Natta Hanashi communicate her experiences with queer identity, mental illness, and alcoholism. No work of fiction could ever hope to reach Nagata’s strength and crushing honesty. Nagata’s manga has and will continue to change readers and the genre for years to come.

7: Bloom Into You

Nakatani Nio’s popular Yuri series Bloom Into You crushed it in 2019. It concluded serialization, ending on an incredibly high note, and dominating the market in both English and Japanese, selling over one million copies (well deserved). Additionally, Sentai Filmworks released an excellent collector’s edition of the 2018 television anime adaption that is now a must-have for Yuri collectors. But my favorite aspect of this series is the spin-off light novel series featuring one of its best characters, which have already begun English release.

6: Heart of the Woods

When I heard that one of the co-creators of Highway Blossoms, one of the better English Yuri visual novels, was creating his own studio, I was pretty excited. But nothing could have prepared me for Studio Élan's first release, Heart of the Woods, which blew me away. The enchanting adventure full of exceptionally queer characters shattered every expectation I had. I am looking forward to its Switch port and voice acting patch, as well as more titles from Élan.

Honorable mention: Hayama-sensei to Terano-sensei wa Tsukiatte iru

Oui Pikachi’s manga about two teachers navigating a new relationship is one of my new favorites. Everyone is so supportive of the title characters as they stumble their way through an honest and mature love. However, I am only giving it an honorable mention this year, as I am sure it will be on this list next year after Seven Seas releases the first volume in English as The Gym Teacher and School Nurse are Dating!

5. Sexiled

Ameko Kaeruda’s spectacularly feminist and outrageously funny light novel series Sexiled is could ever ask for and more. I feel in love with its compelling female characters and their riveting battle against the sexist conventions of their society, all of which painfully mirror reality. This work is cathartic, empowering, and so very, very gay.

4: Yuri Life

I adore domestic Yuri. Granted, I love a good romance and fantasy, but so many of these stories exist that it feels overwhelming, and sometimes it is just good to sit down and read about two women who love each other living their everyday adult lives in bliss. Kurukuruhime’s Yuri Life, which I have enjoyed ever since it was first uploaded to Pixiv and am so proud to own in print, is precisely that. Nine couples being cute and living together in a variety of humorous, scandalous, and adorable situations. Yuri cohabitation has never been so good! Now, if I could only get some Yuri titles about women raising kids together…

3: Children’s Cartoons

For the past several years, children’s cartoons and media have slowly begun to allow bits of queer representation onto the screen. While we are still a long way from having Elsa kiss a girl, the small and large victories on children’s television give me hope. Some of my personal favorites include an episode of Nickelodeon’s The Loud House about a lesbian date, a lesbian couple and agender character (using they/them pronouns) in Craig of the Creek, the female protagonist of Twelve Forever developing a crush on another girl, and of course the unbelievable amount of queerness that She-Ra and Steven Universe shove into every moment. I wish I had more series like these when I was young, and I am thrilled that my students get to grow up with them.

2: Our Dreams at Dusk (Shimanami Tasogare)

Yuhki Kamatani’s Our Dreams at Dusk is easily 2019’s best manga. The incredible story explores many real aspects of LGBTQ identities, gay, lesbian, trans, non-binary, and asexual included, in an emotional and resonating masterpiece. The artwork is stunning and more expressive than words could ever be. I stand by what I said in my review, that Our Dreams at Dusk is the greatest manga I have ever read and wholeheartedly believes that it was deserving of the only 10/10 score I gave in 2019.

Honorable mention: ‘The Conditions of Paradise’ Licensed

One of the best moments of this year came out of Anime Expo when Seven Seas announced that they had licensed Morishima Akiko’s Rakuen no Jouken and would be releasing it as The Conditions of Paradise in 2020. Not only is The Conditions of Paradise a fantastic and mature work of Yuri literature, but it is also over a decade old, having been published originally in 2007. This license, more than anything else, helped me realize how far Yuri came this year. Not only is the hottest new series being adapted, but a historic and profound classic of the genre.

1: Yuri Publishers

Not too long ago, it was rare for us to see more than a few Yuri manga releases in a year if any, but now we are at the point where a publisher can do an event announcing five Yuri licenses in a single day! As of this year, all the major publishers, and plenty of smaller ones, are actively licensing, adapting, and publishing amazing Yuri works: Yen Press, Viz, Kodansha, Seven Seas, Tokyopop, Renta, J-Novel Club, and more keep giving us incredible Yuri. I also have to mention the incredible work Lilyka Manga is doing, working directly with mangaka to adapt Yuri doujinshi titles into English, something I would have never dreamed of a few years ago.

As Yuri enters its second century, we are staring down the rest of 2020, a year that will no doubt go down in current Yuri history. The year will see a record number of Yuri manga releases both in Japan and from licensed series in the West. We are getting several promising anime series like Adachi to Shimamura, Magia Record, Oshi ga Budoukan Ittekuretara Shinu, a Princess Principal movie, and more. I cannot wait to see what this year will hold for YuriMother and the Yuri genre. I hope you all stick with me through it as we navigate the waters of a newer, gayer, and greater world of Yuri.
