My problem with the Damian and Jon friendship is that nobody actually cares about them as characters bc Damian gets the boost of being part of the batfam so yall didnt really read or internalize Jon's issues with anything bc ur so mad he got aged up and did his own thing and u cant shoehorn him into the role of damians handler; but Jon is white so you still feel compelled to put more weight onto him (who u dont know or want to know) than damian who u can stereotype as feral, inherently violent, and in need of some sort of keeper/therapist so it just ends up as superbat part 2 except worse bc its literally just clark and bruce with different names slapped onto them bc u dont know or want to know these people

I only recently started reading comics. Unaware of the age gap between Damijon. I thought it was fine to ship them, because I thought they were teens, until a Pinterest post told me that they do. And honestly, I could give less of a fuck.

A ship's a ship. Seriously, like when the hell did we care about DC canon. You can make your own reality atp with how inconsistent DC is with their characters.

But I feel like most antis either can't accept that there are shippers willing to make Damijon the same age or that Damijon is in no way— shape or form— Superbat.

I mean from what I've read and seen, Damijon's bond is special. It can either be platonic or romantic. I mean like soulmates type of thing.

They're different from Superbat. They just work, you know. Without having to change anything about their characters. As friends or boyfriends. They make each other feel normal.

That leads to my other problem. The age gap was unnecessary. I don't care what y'all say. Jon shouldn't have been aged up. The moment he was aged up, he was given to Nightwing.

I know how our fandom likes to joke about Jason getting Dick's old friends, but what about Dick getting Dami's???

Jon and Dami has a well-deserved bond. Again, either platonic or romantic, they just work. And now the only person that makes Damian feel human instead of a fucking weapon is given to his brother???

I love vampire au's so much, but then I think about them with pairings like superbat and timkon and damijon they just... don't work???? Like the most delicious thing in vampire au's is when vampire (someone from batfamily usually) character drinks blood from their non-vampire partner. Because it's about this trust and sexual tension on the edge of dying.

But kryptonians have fucking skin of steel, I just keep imagining Damian breaking his fangs when he tries to drink Jon's blood and it makes me so fucking sad.

These two gave off an insane amount of boyfriend energy, with the way that Damian pushes Jon back and Jon comes to pick him up so they can fly places together.

And the way that they will bicker about things for no reason. This is why I weirdly like Superbat!Damijon although I don’t think either of them should be Superman or Batman but I just think they make a cute bats and supes.

Breaking down the song too sweet by hozier and literally shoving any dc ship in it. Well mainly any bat x super ship cause honestly I love the idea that the song is from the bats perspective talking about their respective super.

Also I feel the need to make this clear, I do ship superbat, timkon, and Damijon but not all in the same universe. Like no offense to anyone who has written anything containing all three of these ships but I think it's just weird cause it's like man if superbat is canon and then you put damijon it's like Damian and Jonathan are brothers so it just makes me feel weird about the ship at that point. But if they are all in separate fics then I feel like it's fine and I love it.

But anyway! I was writing my newest chapter and on my superbat fanfiction called " does superman cry" (FYI I regret not making the title too sweet or ice tea and tears or something silly like that)

Cause I'm so OBSESSED with Clark having a deep appreciation for ice tea and loving it cause Martha would make it during the summer months and would make it warm during the winter so Kal just always had that bitter sweet tea after a long day of working on the farm.

So Bruce learns about it and he absolutely hates tea. He takes his whiskey neat and coffee in bed at 3 and this man just can't stand the bitter taste. Even with sugar in it he hates it. But after he learns Martha makes it he has Alfred the tea steeping master he is make his own so every time Clark comes over he baits him into drinking a glass.

Especially if he wants Clark to stay longer. He secretly just brings him a glass and Kal the nice boy that he is can never refuse a glass of home made sweet tea.

Eventually they fall into this pattern and even start dating and Bruce finds that he doesn't mind sweet tea as long as it's on Clark's lips when he kisses him. Thats the sweetest tea of all.

Also I'm imagining Clark not actually being a coffee fan and liking tea cause it tastes more like home and the earthy flavor it provides, but he will bring Bruce a steaming cup of coffee just like how he likes it as compensation. Kinda like a trade of sorts ♥️🖤💙💛

Superbat (Clark/Bruce): I find this ok, but personally, I like it when the trinity acts more like siblings, so it’s not my favorite. 5/10

BruHarvey: lovers to enemies? The angst? Amazing. 8/10

Dickbabs: idk. It feels kinda boring to me. Mainly because DC ruined both of their characters in order for them to be together. 4/10

DicKori: they’re soulmates. Idk what to tell you. And maybe you can tell how biased I am. Right now, they are the opitome of right person wrong time. 10/10

Jayroy: I don’t like this ship. It reduces Roy’s character down to a prop, the age gap feels kinda icky and I personally believe in Aro/Ace Jason Todd. 1/10

Superbat (Kon/Tim): the only version of superbat I truly ship. Reluctant friends, to besties, to flirty friendship, to a game of cat and mouse on if that taunt was real or if they were just fooling around? 10/10

DamiJon: I think their age gap never works in their favor. Either Damian’s too old or Jon’s too old, and it makes me feel wrong. And in more recent comics, they’ve been acting much more like siblings than friends who maybe possibly have chemistry with each other. But I do think if you wanted to go the romance route, it could be double unrequited love that was never expressed. Like a 10yr old Jon had a crush on a 13 yr old Damian. Jon left for almost a decade and comes back, looses feelings for Damian, but a 14yr old Damian has feelings for an 18 yr old Jon, but it never works out. 5/10. Just like their Dads

PENNYWAYNESSSS: 100000000/10. Like are you kidding me, this is the best ship ever and I love it so much.

BruTalia: 10/10. My favorite Bruce ship.

Brulina: 8/10. I like it… but I feel like it wouldn’t work out because Selina would get overwhelmed by the amount of wealth Bruce has. Like she thinks it’s what she wants, but it’s too much for her

Birdflash (Dick/Wally): 8/10. I see the appeal, they’re best friends with so much chemistry, but I feel like they would never date bc they value their friendship more and they’re both super busy

JayKyle: it’s the only Jason ship I like, but only because I want it to be one sided, with Kyle failing to flirt with Jason and Jason is completely oblivious and actually just hates Kyle but Kyle thinks Jason’s playing hard to get. (Kyles flirting is just arguing with Jason, so that’s why Jason never gets the hint) 7/10 +300 bc of hillarity

StephTim: I don’t like this ship because Stephanie deserves so much better, and Tim seems like the type to mansplain every little thing, and it would drive Steph up a wall. I also don’t like the notion that they would be friends after they break up. 3/10 bc they had that piano scene

DamiRae: 2/10. Garchel is a better ship, and I feel like their personalities are too similar.

Flatline/Damian: I love them. I think they’re cute, but I don’t see it lasting long. 4/10

StephCass: 9/10. No more needs to be said. But I won’t ever officially write them as being together within a fic bc Steph’s character deserves to be her own, rather than a lover of a Batfam member, and Cass has her own things to deal with

What's your opinion on the DamiJon ship? And SuperBat ships in general? They're not really my favorite especially since the supers keep getting flattened in their characterizations but I'd like to know your thoughts on them?

I do have a bunch of opinions on this.

Firstly, in terms of Damian and Jon, I simply haven't read much with them interacting so far, with the added issue that one of the first stories I read them both in contained a bunch of factors that reminded me that the story was 100% not aimed at me.

In terms of a ship? It's fine. Damian is pretty lacking in well-established relationships with other characters for someone who's existed for 17 years at this point, and Jon is probably the character he's spent the most amount of time on page developing a friendship with. If you want to ship Damian with a friend, it's probably the most obvious option plus about the only option that contains a character who has their own separate stories.

I'm largely uninterested but I'm at the age where I simply don't get hugely worked up about relationships among young teen characters anymore, unless there's a really solid hook to draw me in.

Now, Damian and Jon with the current scenario? That's actually somewhat more interesting to me, in terms of there's an age difference that introduces a level of complexity into any relationship they have right now, plus Jon's currently in an adult relationship, so him having a relationship with a teenager would be fascinating in terms of everything involved that both sides would need to hide/gloss over.

More generally about SuperBat relationships?

Tim and Kon is a relationship with a lot of hooks on it to play them out as either best friends and/or in love with each other, because they're desperately weird about the other in a way that the two aren't about other characters. Never forget, Kon was the first of the two to dedicate the rest of his life in an alternate reality to replacing a missing Tim back in the Hypertime issues of Superboy 1994. On a fundamental canonical basis I understand and appreciate why to ship it.

Clark and Bruce? Hmm. This is one of those things where I see the fundamental basis (in that Clark and Bruce are also weird about each other and we have decades of Superman/Batman team ups labelled as such) but for own taste the problem for me is Lois.

I fundamentally emotionally care more about Lois/Clark as a solid married couple than I do about Bruce being weird for Clark.

Fortunately, there is a fairly simple solution to this: polyamory. As long as everyone involved is on the same page about it, I am just fine with Bruce being a specific exception in the Lois/Clark marriage (Lois and Clark taking care of Bruce fics make me feral because of the levels of trust involved from them all).

Captains Log: First entry

So far he's become accumulated to the idea of two boys being able to have a healthy relationship through his obsession with one Damian Al Ghul Wayne.

Through giving him access to my Pinterest account for something I honestly can't remember- maybe a school thing, he discovered my DC pins and I introduced him to some really cute Damijon art. He was immediately consumed. I left him alone on my laptop and came back to more than three dozen new pins of purely Damijon fanarts.

Note: remind me to make him his own account Jfc!

From Damijon he then discovered Timkon and Superbat. It is an understatement to say he is a fan of bat×super pairings.

I exploited his new obsessions with these ships to make him angry because he's so terribly cute and hilarious when he's angry. How did I do this?

Well, I decided one day that I would break the unfortunate news to him that Jon Kent was in fact already in a relationship with one Jay Nakamura, and Tim as such with one Bernard Dowd. The following outburst from him was immeasurable!

You can imagine my surprise when he screamed at me, demanding I prove such a thing- then afterwards the amount of tears. He refused to speak to me for two while weeks, unless uping the anti on telling me how I was going to hell for being a fag. Hypocritical of him in all honesty considering he was saving pins of boys kissing quicker and more efficiently than I could complete my assignments.

Anywho, I took advantage of this. I like poking the bear, and he's a very cute bear, so I began mentioning Jay and Jon when I felt like seeing his little face get so red with anger it's possible steam might come from his ears. We quickly developed a loose script of back and forth; him getting angry and trying to explode me with his mind, me grinning at how wholeheartedly he defended his most favourite ship between two boys.

Until one day my little brother flipped that script and pulled the rug right out from underneath me and my little game. He proposed Polyamory. Of all thing, Polyamory. Not something you'd expect from the mouth of a Christian boy- especially about three boys.

How and where this primary school kid learnt about the idea of Polyamory escapes me. I have no idea, but the fact he was willing to accept it to disprove my point is almost even more hilarious than his face when he's angry.

I'm so glad, proud in honesty, that he has experienced this growth as a person, that he is accepting of Polyamory- even if it is because of something so silly. It's progress in getting him to stop condemning me and mine to hell. He is willing to accept such relationships now, and all because of my incessant teasing and taunting.

This acceptance extends to Timberkon especially, from what I can tell from the 12 pins he's added to his ever growing collection on my account. Which I am very pleased about, considering my own love for that particular ship. And also, he's realised he can ship Batman with more people than just Superman (though he still hates that I'm a Batlantern shipper).

His favourite Batman ship is now Batman, Superman and Lois Lane as a throuple. He is also open to the idea of Batman dating Talia Al Ghul and Cat Woman as well as Superman. (He is not letting go of the Superbat element, that's fine though).

And, surprisingly, it has also extended to a new show we've been watching together, with my second brother as well, called "Castlevania" on Netflix, in which he's now insisting the main three characters- Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades, and Adrian Teppesh aka Alucard- are polyamorus and all in love with each other.

Note: we are only in the second season as of now.

Which is all excellent growth in my books!

Now my lovely friend @froggyinfear has suggested I introduce him to lesbians next, to further his acceptance of queer relationships. I intend to update you all with the details of my progress in this endeavour with this new Captain's Log.

actually the idea of Damian - or a son from talia and bruce existed in the 80s. while modern comics definitely retconned much of cannon from that time, what we did know was that bruce and talia were madly in love. they were engaged, talia was pregnant, and bruce was planning to quit being batman. however talia knew she couldn't take batman away from the world, so she lied and said she miscarried stuff happens, engagement broken off, etc. an unnamed child was born, talia supposedly giving it away.

What you’re describing is an elseworlds story that was never actually canon. People love using this to claim that Damian’s actual origin- that Talia drugged and raped Bruce- is a nasty horrible retcon done out of racist and sexist motivations and is totally out of character for poor somehow good but still an assassin with the league of assassins Talia. Even though this story still makes Talia a world class bitch, considering it involves her deciding that Bruce should be miserable, lying about the death of their child and giving said child away without the consent of both parents.

I don’t know if they did decide to create Damian because of heteronormativity and homophobia over Superbat and other queer Batman ships, but I suspect it played a role. Especially as Damian replaced the now confirmed bi Tim as Robin. True, Tim wasn’t out as bi at the time but he was very close to Kon, and we all know that TimKon came off as more than just a friendship. There’s a reason it’s a very popular ship.

Of course, if that was part of the reasoning, it backfired considering the most popular Damian related ship (not that he should be being shipped with anyone, he’s a child) is Damijon, a queer ship. A terrible ship- Jon deserves so much better than Damian, like Jay. I like Jay. - but a popular queer one.

I just need to get this off my chest for the world to see and I don’t want to get cancelled so I’m sharing it with you:

I ship superbat, timkon and damijon and in my ideal world they all happen in the same universe around the same time because I want the most awkward family dinner in existence. I want them all to be avoiding eye contact, contemplating how worth it would be to just kill themselves right here and now.

Better yet, this terrible family dinner is where both StephCass and JayDick get caught being in secret relationships because Damian caught one pair before dinner in Bruce’s office and gave the most unholy shriek imaginable that it was impossible to hide and the other Bruce catches in hooking up in the bathroom and makes it very, very known to everyone and so this is just a terrible family dinner where everyone wants to die of shame for various reasons

So yeah my dream is just for some of my various ships to be together so I can have the most miserable, psychologically damaging meal imaginable

I think it would be funny

I don´t mean this in an antagonistic way but why would you think this could get you cancelled? A fic with a similar premises (various characters sit together at dinner and the relationships all come up in more or less embarrassing ways) pops up every other week if not more often.

It's a cute and funny premise and I think you should give a try writing it if it's your kinda thing. I suggest you split the conversation in little "pockets" so you don't get overwhelmed, and then you link them together cohesively.

Superbat is used waaay too much in damijon content. Especially because of the obvious weird implications but just there is so much potential for Clois and Brutalia when it comes to them like why aren’t we capatilizing off of that?

Me sprialing alone in my party of one when it comes to the idea that Jon would bring comfort to Talia because their love for each other alone proves that Damian is in fact not like this father.

Like ya’ll not sitting on the idea that Jon and Damian ever falling in love in the first place could be the very catalyst of what makes them not want to become Superman and Batman.
