4. what one person, place, or thing do they love more than anything else?

he's fresh out of options for a lot of these, poor guy, so i'll stick to an extremely prized object. he has a simple ring he wears on his left pinky finger, one his mother gave him years and years ago with an inscription in sylvan on the inside of the band. she gave it to him as a token of congratulations for his first (and ultimately only) year at wizard college, and it has since become his magic focus. even in the years where he's tried to keep himself from practicing Any magic, he could never make himself take that ring off

12. how have they altered their body? piercings, tattoos, biohacks, or other modifications—anything. why (or why not) did they (or someone else) make those changes?

he's had simple lobe piercings since he was young, but he's since added another piercing in his left helix. for all he's tried to be spartan with his material possessions and whatnot since exiling himself, he does care about his appearance still, and there's something grounding to him in attaching metal to himself even on the (extremely) rare occasions where he's not in armour

he's always seen himself as older than he really is, but i think the moment he considered himself to be Grown Up was when maxine passed on the title of heir to the van date name to him. he felt ready to take on the responsibility of the family's legacy in that moment, and proud of being trusted with it. he was 15 at the time

37. if they’ve had one, what was their first kiss like?

he doesn't like this question. don't ever ask him this question. (he killed the man who gave him his first kiss. he had to, but after years of working under him until they had some sort of relationship, only to be cast aside at the first sign of disagreeing with him... he doesn't like talking about that man, let's just say)

44. what lies do they tell others?

he's fairly straight-forward, and isn't prone to lying for the sake of lying. there's some element of lying, though, when he turns down some act of pleasure: it's not that he doesn't want it, it's that he doesn't feel he deserves it, but that's a hassle to say every time

50. do they have a go-to beverage, alcoholic or nonalcoholic?

if he's not drinking regular water, he's drinking black coffee. he's used to ale and rum from being out at sea for extended periods, but he's deliberately only drank as much as he knew he needed. his poison of choice is tobacco, and that was a conscious choice on his part

54. how important is money in their life? do they save up for ages, or spend quickly?

he keeps a certain amount of money stashed on his person in case of emergencies, and doesn't keep a whole lot more than that. money is not his goal in what he does, and he doesn't Want to be rich

57. do they see value in the laws of where they live?

to be determined better when i play him in a campaign. he'd like to be more on the lawful side, or at least he'd like to see himself as such, but this man was literally a pirate, so there's only so close to The Law that he can be lol. i think he's trying to figure out where he stands currently, away from... well. away from everything that made him quit being an active pirate
