for next year's aspec challenge am thinking about the doctor, obviously... just. the doctor. in many different iterations. unsure what to focus on, ten is obvious as character, but I'd love to look at some connectivity, if I finish whittaker in february perhaps all the way back to the fugitive doctor, also theta sigma, through classic who... hmmm

but yeah could just rotate the doctor in every regeneration around in my mind for twelve months of aspec writing, why not...

One time I tried writing a soulmate au and I was going to try to like. deconstruct?? the idea of soulmates with it but I still made the mistake of making the two love interests actual soulmates (rookie mistake) and about 20k in I was looking at what I had written like. Honestly, I am pretty frustrated by the "haha why would anyone hate ace people" responses to Rowling's tweet.

Don't get me wrong, the support is nice. But if you want to be an ally, you have to do so on our terms, not yours. And that means actually engaging with the aspec community, not just posting positivity every now and again. And what those responses highlight to me is what I've known for a while; you guys only support aspec people when it's easy and convenient.

It's easy to support aspec people when it's J.K. Rowling being awful again. It's easy to support us when it's just reblogging an "aspec people are queer" post.

But what about when we are talking about amatonormativity and the relationship hierarchy? When we are discussing the enforcement of compulsory sexuality? When we are pushing for greater awareness and support for aspec identities that are not asexuality or aromanticism? When we are criticizing terminology that you use but harms us? Because I can tell you right now, I rarely see allo people engage with those posts.

Why do people hate asexuality (or any other aspec identity)? Because it challenges the societal norms that benefit them. And that is uncomfortable and scary. So they turn to hate and oppression in order to assure that the changes we push by just openly existing never happen.

That means that to be a good aspec ally, you can't just make a positivity post every now and again, and you can't just laugh about how stupid aphobes are. You have to openly challenge the societal norms that harm us, even if they benefit you. Including but not limited to:

The idea that romantic and sexual attraction is the default state of being (amatonormativity)

The idea that a romantic, sexual relationship completes a person

People in marriages receiving special privileges and benefits

The idea that platonic, familial, etc. attraction are default states of being

The idea that not feeling some form of attraction must be compensated for through another form of attraction

The idea that love (not just romantic) is inherently morally good, while not feeling love is inherently a moral failing

The idea that any one form of relationship is inherently more important or deeper than any other (relationship hierarchy)

The idea that any one thing makes someone human

The idea that not having sex is shameful or infantile

The idea that having sex without romantic love is callous

Gendered divides of sexual and romantic attraction

Thinking hardcore about making a 21+ averse/repulsed aroace-centric aspec discord again (because I dislike most of the aspec servers I've joined) and wondering what kind of things people would be interested in. Some ideas:

romance free book club, mostly focused on adult sf/f (adult sf/f without romance exists guys you just have to look for it)

nonfiction book club focused on queer theory, especially asexual and aromantic theory (come read Refusing Compulsory Sexuality with me and talk about it)

movie nights??? though someone else would have to run them as I do not have a pc

open mics/karaoke (same as above)

art/writing challenges (I already do this some in my star trek server)

structured peer support groups (stretch goal, will need someone who is capable of running these and teaching others how to do the same)

Is there anything else people might be interested in if I were to make this server? Keep in mind that I'm not aiming to please everyone here — though all 21+ aros and aces would be able to join, this is primarily going to be a server that centers the needs of sex and romance averse/repulsed aroaces over the age of 21, because there are very few adult spaces for us.

I've just posted a Wrightworth oneshot on Ao3 to see if I, as an aspec person who has never felt romantic or sexual attractions, could write both of those correctly.

And people seem to like it, I've already got quite a few kudos and even comments! Though I am still insecure about the realism of it ^^ (Especially as it is also the first fictional text I've ever written in English...)

It was a fun challenge though :D, and it resulted in a surprisingly good outcome, so I don't regret it.

Perhaps this means I *could* understand romantic attraction...

For the 10,000 - 20,000 words Challenge Monday, I'm submittinga fic with 13,668 words, 'Accidentally Absconding With An Impulsive Idiot: A Tale Told In Thirty Parts' by RurouniHime.

Truly a delight, this one, and I love the author's other works, several of which focus on aspec relationships that are really well-written! This fic a classic road-trip romp though, and it's snappy and funny and you look at it and think 'thirty parts in only 14k words???' and then the writing just blows you away.

Thirty-four minutes in total after hanging up. Ten to stop panicking on his hallway floor. Seven to agonize over a note to Wayne, which ended up being a measly three lines, so that was just stupid. And then seventeen more to grab everything he wanted, shove it into a duffle and take it outside, go back in for another blanket when he saw what was currently lurking in the van’s cargo, go back again for his Dragon Slayer, lock up the trailer, fuck with the road map to find the fastest way out of this hellhole, and get the van started, which, hey, that’s at least thirty seconds on its own usually. All in all, Eddie thought he was doing pretty well. So imagine his surprise to find Steve Harrington on the other side of his passenger side window, hair askew, pounding on the door. ------- Steve bombs Eddie's escape attempt, much to Eddie's displeasure.

I'm really hoping to finish this story, which is basically the first draft of my second novel, by the end of this year. It's eventually going to be a romance between an agoraphobic aspec librarian (FC: Kiki Layne) and a sentient android (FC: non-human but also somehow Manny Jacinto). I'm liking my progress so far, here's the latest chapter.

I'm also easing myself back into the fanfic mood by rereading and editing an existing fic. If you ever feel like revisiting this one, expect a few extra lines --I'm always trying to improve my writing of love scenes, those who do it extremely well are so impressive to me, and depicting consensual sexual roughness was an exciting challenge. I hope you like the slight differences.

As for Tiger Boy And The Witch Girl, the last chapter is finally in progress, stay tuned!
