Binder Safety Guide
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Binders are wonderful, transformative things! BUT there are a lot of things to consider and prep yourself for if you want to wear a binder safely. So here's a quick guide on the top 10 tips for binder safety.
Your health is paramount and wearing a binder incorrectly can really damage your skin, and lead to breathing problems or back pain etc, so please listen to your body, and if it hurts, stop. Binders aren't for everyone but their are alternative methods to a flatter chest!
For more tips and guidance on binder safety, check out Point of Pride, Spectrum Outfitters, Amor Binders, Mermaids or my previous post, An Intro to Binders!

BINDER SAFETY PSA FOR HOT WEATHER
-I know this sucks, but if you will be getting sweaty, it’s best to avoid wearing it as much as you can. That sweat will CEMENT a binder onto you and makes compression tops VERY hard to get off. Obviously some places are hotter than others so this may not be a problem for you at all! But where I live it can be 115 degrees just on a casual summer Tuesday
-That said, if you’re wearing your binder out and getting sweaty, BABY POWDER WORKS WONDERS. No stinkum stinkum or chafing, dump that on in the whole thing, not just the paneling. HOWEVER it WILL NOT stop you from sweating. It WILL NOT stop the binder from sticking to you if it’s hot enough. But, it will keep the binder much fresher for much longer.
-Be VERY CAREFUL about overheating. It’s a compressive top. It’s not exactly meant to be breathable. The compression panel will not let in good airflow. If you’re binding even though it’s hot, PLEASE stay well hydrated with electrolytes.
-Part B of that: Strenuous activity is a no-go. I know some people will do a lot of physical activity in their binder (even when you aren’t supposed to!!!) but summer is NOT THE TIME to play with that boundary. You will overheat, and you will get sick.
-Dysphoria is a bitch, and not wearing a binder can really really super suck for some people, but oversized button downs really do help. Yes, I know it’s a stereotype. But it’s light weight with good airflow AND helps hide your shape. They’re also a kind of shirt that’s somewhat easier to get with a variety of budgets, as a lot of both firsthand and secondhand stores will have them.
In summary, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be safe out there. It gets hot. Be careful. Stay hydrated. Bind responsibly.

While I absolutely agree on binder safety and the fact that you should not wear your binder for over 8 hours.
Your ribs will not self destruct if you wear your binder for over 8 hours once in a while.
This goes directed to the people that act like you have committed a crime once you tell them that you've been wearing your binder for the past nine hours and freak out like your ribs will die or smthing, it is not that serious and all your doing is scaring people who are new/wearing binders for the first time.
However! You should not make it a habit
Bind safely!

I recently got my second binder that actually fits but I forgot I had a breathing disability
I was so used to my standard breathing pattern that I didn’t realize how bad it was
My first binder was “borrowed” from a friend but it didn’t exactly fit right and it did nothing for my chest. It was just a really crummy sports bra. Too big but comfy I guess
When I got my new binder I didn’t consider the fact that it will stunt my breathing. I’ve heard stories of people not being able to work out in their binder and that’s understandable but I never though I just flat out couldn’t wear one.
It’s not safe for me to get top surgery but it’s not like I can get a nicer binder, This is it. It’s either flat chest and no breathing or non flat chest and breathing
And honestly both sound equally shitty

I wanted to send you all some positive queer energy this Friday! And to say thank you to everyone who has been following and engaging with my blog so far! I love sharing my illustrations and RSHE (Relationships and Sexual Health Education) work and it means a lot to see the positive responses!!! 🥰
Binders give freedom! 💚 Freedom from gender and chest dysphoria! 🤍 Freedom in self expression and to wear the clothes you want! 💜 Freedom to be your true self!
I'm still working through my backlog of content to post on here but I also wanted to ask if anyone has any RSHE related topics they'd like me to cover? Is there something you wish your school sex-ed had covered or topic you want some more clarity on? Perhaps there's a contraceptive method you'd like more information on? A sexual health concern or some advice on relationships? Whatever it is please comment and I could add it to my list of topics to cover! Thank you!

Hi, I've got a binder problem
So I cannot let my parents find out that im enby, so i secretly bought binder bc i have severe dysphoria BUT idk how to wash it? Like, do l need to? Is it absolutely necessary? If so, is soap absolutely needed? Like, can l just thoroughly rinse it using only water?
And, bonus question- how the hell do you put it on and take it off??

- Al (they/he/she)
hello! so first off, im gonna start you off with a short guide to binding! it's a free PDF you can download and look at- it shows you how to get a binder on and off, and has some other safety details!
second- YES please wash your binder. you can get away with not doing it and spot cleaning it for a while, but at some point you are gonna have to wash it. soap is needed- but if you can't access it, thoroughly rinsing with water is better than nothing. wash it by hand if you are able, and if not, throw it in the washer on a COOL setting.
do not put it in the drier if it's heated- it will shrink your binder!!
just scrubbing it in the sink or bathtub usually does it for me. handsoap is fine, but dishsoap or detergent is ideal! soak it, scrub it with soap, then rinse well! usually i roll it up in a towel after, then hang it up to dry.
not washing your binder can lead to excess acne and irritation, and can make it wear out faster
hope this helps!! <3

hey i just had your binder safety post pop up as recommended on my dash, and i was wondering if you had any brand recommendations? i’ve heard that gc2b isn’t a safe go-to anymore but i don’t know where else to look. the friends that i’ve asked either stopped needing them before gc2b changed, never used them in the first place, or wear them for such short periods/so infrequently they don’t have to be as mindful of safety.
Wow! Hi, so happy to help. I don’t know much about binder brands but I have a very knowledgeable friend (@buggylad) who’s helped me compile a list.
- Spectrum outfitters (uk based)
- tomboyx (binder alternatives aka compression tops)
- for them (some love some hate, do your own research)
- Underworks (budget friendly)
- shapeshifters (larger sizing)
I really hope this helps, feel free to message again if you have any other questions and I’ll do my best to answer them! (Make sure to check reviews and do some more research before buying)

FRIENDLY REMINDER FOR ALL OF MY FELLOW TRANSMASCS
Try not to wear ur binder for more than 8 hours. Take plenty of breaks, and don’t wear it if ur ribs hurt or if u are having a hard time breathing :)

Binder where buy
So… I need help ;w;. My family is okay with me buying a binder for Christmas and I am very happy but the condition is that it’s not too pricey… So far I’ve only found very expensive one in the Euro zone and I’m scared I won’t be able to find one to forward my parents before Christmas arrives…
Does anyone have a link to good binders in the eurozone ? That would help me a bunch !
