I have so many questions about the Tim Burton Batman universe but I have to respect Danny Devito for making his own Catwoman x Reader fanfiction into a comic

Which bruce wayne is ur favourite? (ex. Christian Bale, Robert Patterson) and follow up question why? -🐰
bunny, im so glad you asked. how much time do you have
i don't care about robert pattinson, i did not care about the batman (2022). i'm sure i'll do a full analysis once i'm able to establish my credentials as a lifelong batman fan, but there was a lot that fell so short for me.
christian bale was an exceptional bruce wayne, which is arguably as impossible a role to fill as the role of batman is. i loved bale's aloof and smug nature as bruce, his confidence and faults, but i can not stand his portrayal of batman. not only is the suit design egregious and unflattering, whoever helped him develop his bat-voice was a terrible guide. bale did his best, don't get me wrong, truly i can hear him giving his all and shredding his vocal chords in the process, but it was simply awful to listen to. the dark knight (2008) is still a rewatch-worthy movie of course, but batman begins (2005) & the dark knight rises (2012) was not memorable nor revolutionary. they pale in comparison to the middle of the trilogy.
more (and a TDLR at the bottom) under the cut:
i thought michael keaton's portrayal of both bruce and batman in batman (1989) and batman returns (1992) was boring. any personality he may have tried to bring to batman was washed out by tim burton trying to fit so much of... well... tim burton into something that didn't need any more of that injection. don't get me wrong, stylistically it's appealing, but if you told me that keaton just showed up and started acting as michael keaton instead of bruce wayne i'd believe you because there is no clear distinction between the two. the second movie was way more enjoyable to watch but it was because of elements that had... virtually nothing to do with bruce/batman. it was devito's penguin, and pfieffer's catwoman (and her subplot) that held my attention. i think it's definitely a burton movie, which is fine, and his morbid takes on those characters are interesting, but it was not a defining movie for bruce/batman. it honestly could've been better without batman entirely or benched as a side character / the antagonist.
batman forever (1995) is my secret favorite live action portrayal. val kilmer had bale's charisma when it came to bruce wayne, and gave batman a unique personality that i adored. he didn't shred his vocal chords to give batman a deeper voice either, instead gave himself an elegant yet commanding edge that reminded me of what i admired about kevin conroy's batman voice. as campy as it is, i love so much of what they did with this movie. i often think of it as a standalone vs it being actually a part of the "burtonverse." especially because batman & robin (1997) is supposed to be part of that franchise and i cannot tell you a single thing that happened in that movie besides maybe uma thurman.
another secret live-action favorite of mine was the foundational movie of adam west's portrayal in batman: the movie (1966) and i will elaborate on that another time either by someone's solicitation or my own hyperfixation driven wills.
now that the live-action shit is out of the way, let's get to the real winners.
the dcau or "timmverse" (bruce timm) or "diniverse" (paul dini) is the name for the dc animated universe franchise during 1992 - 2006 which includes loads of favorite shows/movies of mine. which leads me to say: my favorite portrayals of bruce wayne and batman of all time, is kevin conroy's from justice league (2001 - 2004) and justice league unlimited (2004 - 2006). those two might not be as solid as a legend like batman: the animated series (1992 - 1995) where conroy made his debut, but they were one of my introductory pieces to his portrayal and are a source of a lot of love and nostalgia that still hold up today as a twenty-one year old vs elementary school when i first discovered them. i stayed up til the AM watching them which i had never done before that (it was 7am). i would rewatch my favorite episodes over and over again which i have never done for any other show.
as many have already agreed, conroy was the definitive voice of batman for decades. his beginnings in the legendary batman: the animated series (1991 - 1995) put him on the map as bruce's most recognizable VA, and he went on to voice him in many adaptations that i also adore. a few examples are batman beyond (1999 - 2001) and the rocksteady arkham video game series (2009 - 2015). not only did he form a dynamic duo with mark hamill's joker (who is also so important for the joker's character, but i can't elaborate on that here without a terrific tangent) which employed one of the most potent examples of chemistry i've ever seen in media, but i would've trusted conroy's expertise on bruce/batman to the ends of the earth. he cared about that character, and he showed it in every faithful adaptation he performed. trustworthy and admirable, conroy is hands down the best batman by far, and did justice to his characterization that defined my love for the character. without conroy who brought him alive, i doubt i'd be into batman as much as i am or for as long as i have.
i knew that writing this post i'd get emotional. it's been a year since conroy's death in november 2022. i still remember the night before the news and how i had coincidentally imagined a world without him, come to find out the very next day that he had passed away. i remember exactly where i was when i found out, i remember exactly what i did after. he had honestly been a part of life through batman for almost the entirety of it. he was the celebrity i always wanted to meet, no one was important enough to me to go through that trouble. but conroy was worth it to me, and i missed out on the chance before he passed away. i heard he was always so personable and so kind, and who could ask for better from batman, you know? god there's so much more i could say, but i dont want to be disrespectful to his family who i'm sure miss him terribly, and are the ones that experienced that loss. in the grand scheme of things, i was nothing to him and that's fine, but i'm just very proud of him.
TDLR the character bruce wayne / batman portrayals in any live action adaptations fell short when it comes to animated adaptations of his character. batman forever (1995) is my favorite live-action movie, but it's nothing compared to my love for the voice acting of kevin conroy's bruce wayne / batman in justice league (2001 - 2004) / justice league unlimited (2004 - 2006).

Wait actually let’s forget about the burtonverse and the matsudaverse for a second here. I want to see riddlebird take off in the Batman 66 fandom. Gorshin Riddler and Burguess Penguin were gay rivals that didn’t like each other in the show so we can pretend there’s a Naruto and Sasuke kinda deal with them (I’ve never watched Naruto). I’ve seen people genuinely ship characters with worse chemistry. Also all Batman 66 characters are middle aged which I think is an upgrade. Nygmobblepot more like DILFmobblepot lol (is shot).

Burtonverse recast/fancast
This will be my recast for some of the choices in the Tim Burton Batman movies and I will list some changes for my version.
Changes
Bruce is the main character, not The Joker. We are not supposed to know more about The Joker than we do Batman. That was always my biggest problem of these movies, we know more about the villains than we do Batman. So what I would do is basically the movie opens up on the Waynes’ murders to the opening we actually got. We would hear a passing line that Bruce just got back 5 years ago and Bruce has been Batman ever since. It would be established that through his works at Wayne Enterprises, that Bruce Wayne is one of the most charitable souls in Gotham and does what he cannot as Batman. Everyone believes Batman is just a myth.
The Batsuit would be the classic Dark Blue and Grey, but with the white eyes
Tumblr media
Gordon and Harvey Dent are Batman’s allies. Gordon and Dent the only people who openly work with Batman, while everyone else believes him to be an urban myth. After the party at Wayne Manor, Gordon and Dent go to the Bat Signal to call in Batman. They ask for his help against The Red Hood.
Eckhart would be Harvey Bullock
Knox would be Jack Ryder
The Joker is left more to mystery and his identity is ambiguous, the only thing that should be given away is a flashback of The Red Hood raiding Ace chemicals and being dropped in the chemicals. No Joker is not responsible for killing The Waynes. Instead of the more gangster influence, Joker would be more like he is in his first appearance. where The Joker was a mysterious psychotic killer who kills at random which symbolizes him as the randomness of crime. His henchmen would look like circus clowns and not thugs in leather. With the mystery killer there would be a chance to have mystery and detective work to be done and the end game would be having Joker unleashing Joker toxin on Gotham. Joker would not die in the end, instead Joker would be tied up and left for the police, we would see Joker being sent to Arkham Asylum.
Catwoman is not brought back to life by cats biting her, she would just be someone who is inspired by Batman but steals and they would have the same cat/mouse game. Instead of being someone who was killed by Max Shreck, she would instead be stealing from The Penguin and  would have the cat and mouse game with Batman. No real interest in framing Batman or joining The Penguin, all she wants to do is be a playful kitty
Vicki Vale would return. Vicki does return and Bruce and Vicki continue their relationship. Vicki helps Bruce expose Penguin in the press and Oswald tries to have her and Ryder killed, but Bruce saves them. They would break up when Vicki sees Catwoman kissing Batman, but Vicki still helps Bruce expose The Penguin.
The Penguin would NOT be raised by Penguins and raised in the sewers and leading a group of circus freaks and clowns. The Penguin only keep his flipper hands, short stature, obesity, and bird-like nose. These traits would make him an outcast to his family and high society.  Oswald neither insane nor tossed in the sewer instead  used his astute mind and scientific skills in developing weapons to intimidate and control others. The Penguin would be the gentleman of crime and mockery of high society with an affinity of birds.  Duplicitous mob boss. A guy who EVERYBODY knows is dirty, but he’s smart enough to make sure that there’s just enough deniability for him to get away with it. And JUST enough too, ‘cause he likes rubbing it in Batman’s face that nothing sticks to him. He is a criminal mastermind who is so smart that Batman considers him to be equal or smarter to him. Cares nothing for money or wanting to fit in, all he cares for is a complex caper, wanting to wet his beak and to rub it in Batman’s face.  No Max Shreck, what is the goddamn point of having The Penguin advertised as the villain if you are just gonna make him a puppet for Max Shreck?. It’s all Oswald. Buys his way to the Mayor’s office and maybe have him be behind killing The Waynes. Arms dealer, took over the underworld with Joker in prison, we see the Iceberg Lounge debut in Batman Returns and it’s up to Batman and Harvey Dent to expose him. After Penguin’s corruption is exposed to the public, Oswald plans to get even with Gotham by launching an attack with mind controlled Penguins. In the end. Batman stops him and Harvey Dent puts The Penguin on trial. I’d end it by having Harvey put him on trial and Oswald with his umbrella spraying acid in his face, and as he is taken away, Oswald gets one last squack in, The Penguin always gets even.
The third movie would be called Batman Duality. Harvey is a victim of The Penguin at the end of Returns in the trial and holds Batman and Gotham responsible and we would be exploring duality throughout the movie. Riddler on the otherhand would be darker, more riddles, and leaving riddles at his crimes like the zodiac. Two-Face would join forces cause his obsession with twos and fate. Two things I will keep from Forever is Nygma’s obsession with Bruce Wayne and the "I'm both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Not because I have to be, but now because I choose to be." line. Cut loose the brainwave manipulation machine and just have Riddler leaving riddles at the crimes and have Two-Face is obsessed with his fixation with duality and chance, and his crimes reflect that, despite what he’s done as Two-Face, Bruce still believes his old friend is still in there.
Robin. I heard Burton planned on having Marlon Wayans as Robin and not really Robin but a mechanic working for Batman, but that’s just dumb. Instead Elijah Wood would have played Robin, Two-Face would be responsible for Dick Grayson’s family’s death, Bruce takes him in, one day Dick tries to stop Two-Face on his own and Batman saves him and reveals himself to be Bruce. After  a while Dick becomes Robin and the dynamic duo is born and together they stop Two-Face and Riddler. Also, Elijah works so much better as Robin than Chris or Marlon.  By 1994, Elijah would be 11, Robin needs to be a child for anything to make sense. Why would someone in their 20′s be needing a guardian? So yes Elijah Wood as Robin would’ve been the perfect fit!
In the 4th movie, Batman:Triumphant. It would have Scarecrow(played by Robert Englund) and Mad Hatter(played by Johnny Depp) as the villains and feature Batigirl(played by Bryce Dallas Howard). Dick and Barbara would meet in College and fall in love. A mention that she’s Gordon’s daughter and Professor Jonathan Crane would be their teacher. They would notice that students are having panic attacks and eventually disappear. Jervis Tetch would be a disgruntled employee at Wayne Enterprises. After being fired, he would be inspired by Alice In Wonderland to become The Mad Hatter. One day Barbara would be attacked by some gang members who follow the Mad Hatter looking to “collect Alice” and Barbara is saved by Batman & Robin. Mad Hatter would actually have the Riddler mind control plot in the actual Batman Forever, cause I think it fits Mad Hatter more and instead of TV sets, he would just sell hats out to citizens of Gotham. Scarecrow would work with Mad Hatter and mix in his fear toxin with the mind controlled hats to amplify them with fear. Barbara believes she needs to help Batman & Robin, she becomes Batgirl. It ends with Mad Hatter and Crane being sent to Arkham.
The final movie. Batman:Knightfall. It follows the comic closely. Bane was raised in a prison and seeks to break the Bat. He breaks out the prisoners of Arkham. Bruce, Barbara and Dick spend the majority of the film putting them back. Bruce is tired and exhausted and Bane seizes the opportunity to find the Batcave and breaks the Bat. Dick rises up and become Nightwing and defeats Bane. Bruce retires as Batman and the torch is passed from Bruce to DIck and Barbara as he believes Gotham is safe in their hands
