i hate when people discuss sign/traits/symptoms of autism they often you the word "inappropriate" to describe the behaviors of the autistic person

maybe it's just me but the use of the word inappropriate just gives off a gross connotation to the autistic person's behavior?

like why is the behavior inappropriate? what makes it inappropriate? because it's not like what allistic people do?

so is it actually inappropriate then? or is it irregular? abstract? different? even "abnormal" sound better than inappropriate to me

to me calling the behavior of autistic people inappropriate is dehumanizing because to me it implies the idea that autistic people don't know how to behave at all. like as if they can't understand what it means to do xyz.

but autistic people do know how to behave. they behave in a way that makes sense and is comfortable to them. it may not be what society scripted as they way to do something but i think to call it inappropriate is just wrong

I'm visually impaired and cannot drive a car. Not even with the most intense glasses could I drive. I'm not legally blind, but because of my severely impaired vision, I cannot drive and legally cannot still .

I use a mobility scooter to travel. The closest store to me is 45 minutes away if I walked as a seeing person, which I cannot. I can navigate side walks and crossing signs on my scooter because they have different textures in the road and auditory crossing signal sounds too. And people get mad whenever I get out of the scooter. As if I'm pretending to not be able to walk ...and the reason im using a scooter has NOTHING to do with that.

Not everyone you see using a mobility aid is using it for the reason you're expecting. And we're still allowed to exist without harassment.

it's been a couple days but happy disability pride month!

whether you're disabilities are physical or mental. common or rare. chronic to temporary. genetic or environmental. visible or invisible. high support needs or low support needs. "disabled enough" or "not disabled enough".

you matter. you're struggles matter. you deserve respect. you deserve decency. you deserve accommodations. you deserve the rights of everyone else.

People with carers!!! Or people who have had carers or know a carer or know people who have carers or are a carer! Look here!!

I’d like to write a story.

MC’s carer is a serial killer. Along with multiple physical ailments, MC also has schizophrenia. Because of this, nobody believes MC when they tell people that their carer is a serial killer. So they have to figure out a way to stop them.

So! What does a typical day with a carer look like? What do they help with? What does it look like when someone doesn’t like or doesn’t mesh with their carer? Any advice for writing a carer? Any tips for writing someone with a carer?

I know how to write disability (duh) and I know how to write killers, but I’ve never read anything involving a carer or even someone with a carer who isn’t terminally ill. Thanks in advance, I’m very excited to write this.

I just received an eviction hearing notice. The date is set for April 4 which is only a few weeks away at 9:30 AM. If I am unable to pay $1,610 by that date (because all of March and April would need paid) within 48 hours I will receive an eviction notice with 10 days to vacate my apartment. If/when that happens, I do not have anywhere to go. I will be living in my car while chronically ill (both mentally and physically) and while trying to fight all the red tape to get disability. Being evicted will also mean that I will struggle to find housing even after/if my disability does get approved... if I make it that long. Living in my car will dramatically impact most if not all of my disabilities in a way that means they will progress more quickly and the decline will likely be dramatic. I have told the rental agency already the situation that I am in and yet this notice was taped to my door just minutes ago, so I have no choice left but to beg and plead and try to miraculously find this money and keep finding more until disability gets approved which will likely take at least 6 months, and probably longer.
