Disney released new Scar comic book. I read it because people seemed excited about it, it's kinda weird... 🤔 The Lion King is a popular franchise but they must have paid someone to do it who was not familiar with drawing lions or the art style. ( The variant covers are by different artists, and some of them are banger. ) There are a lot of people who are good at the lion king and animal art styles *gestures wildly at online fandom folkx who are now in their 30s and brilliant at it*. But it seems like they didn't choose based much on quality or style identity. It's okay to sidestep the art style completely too, though it looked more like sloppy aping than a fully conceived alternate style. No shade to the artist just it's probably not their bag.
The writing is also clumsy, which is funny. Scar is hunting buffalo and the animal begs for mercy and references scars position as brother to the king ( like a medieval citizen would ), then backtalks Scar as if that political position didn't matter, all the while saying some canned political platitudes about the power of family and friendship succeeding. The wires are getting crossed on whether to treat a situation as animals eating animals or whether it is a human-like society. In the end all lions eat animals so it didn't make sense they would stan Mufasa the king. XD that has always been the case but you don't talk about it if you want the society parallel to work. All lion kings would be tyrants if examined in that case, since all literally feed on their subjects to survive. Penny for their thoughts on how the animals actually feel about their monarchy. Again, it's always existed but it's not a ripe conversation piece unless it actually comes up in the story.
Least of all it contains endless lines and situations repeated word for word from the original movie to remind you that you are indeed reading a Lion King piece of media. It makes it feel the opposite of fresh. It would do to have a bit more new or simply different things in it so it doesn't play out like an old commercial.
I feel like I know a handful of online friendquaintances that could do a much sleeker job and it would be really cool if talented animal artists online could actually take a crack at this.

Sanemi prefers it when you ride him, but it’s because he’s obsessed with watching himself fuck you. He might be the one pinned down to the bed, but it’s his hands that grip under your thighs, that hold you up so he can watch himself thrust up into the eden of your body. And the moment he sees the creamy ring of your pleasure forming around the thick girth of him, Sanemi knows he’s a goner. It’s then that he plants his feet flat against the bed and bucks up into you without rhythm, faster and faster until his body seizes, his eyes rolling back as he comes and comes —

I just want it known that sydney adamu is a person. a human. with human feelings which now more than ever will be annoyed. angry. frustrated. regretful. and she has every reason to be. she shouldn’t need to be defended with every argument as to why she is allowed this room for her feelings. what she is, is a human, not the obedient little girl so many people seem to think she should be. where as her white male counterparts can scream and yell and nearly tear the place apart, she can’t even be mad about it without being called “annoying” or “ungrateful”. she may scream for the first time. she may yell. she may decide that she’s fucking over it and she may have to be convinced this is still worth her time. carmy may have to fucking convince her that HE is worth her time. she cares about him, and about every other person in that damn restaurant but that doesn’t mean she has to smile about it 24/7. I don’t want to fucking hear your stupid reasons as to why a young black woman isn’t allowed to be overwhelmed into making decisions you might not personally make. literally shut the fuck up.

The Professor Layton games are very funny on many levels but I think the funniest part how they've set up this quaint world full of whimsical characters and then every game we get some more genuinely dark and tragic backstory for our mild-mannered main character.

Like, oh haha, this bland looking dude has a kid sidekick and lives in a world of Scooby-Doo logic. He's also a master swordsman who has lost half the people he's ever cared about in a number of deeply traumatic circumstances.

perv!dazai on my mindd.... he definitely breaks into your place when you're out and then steals your panties. this is obvious, we all know it but yk... i wanna talk abt it some more. he steals the dirty ones from your laundry basket:33
he also goes through your drawers bc he just needs to know what type of toys do you have. he does a little delighted "ahh!" when he finally finds the treasure he seeks and then he's already situating himself on your bed. he places the toy right beside him so he can look at it while bringing one of the dirty panties to his nose.
he takes his time palming his hard-on through his pants – he knows your schedule and he knows you won't be home any time soon. he eyes the toy and thinks about how you'd look while using it. is the toy better than your own fingers? do you use both? do you whimper or do you moan? do you think about him? do you cry out for him?
he hisses and slips his hand under the waistband of his pants and boxers because he can't take it anymore. he thinks about you calling his name while playing with yourself. he thinks about you thinking about him.
dazai smiles to himself. how would you react if you saw him like this? your dirty panties covering his nose and mouth as hr breathes you in like you're his lifeline, hand down his pants as he makes a mess in his underwear. how big would your eyes get? how much would you stutter, stumble over your words? would you try to hide or would you stand there frozen? or would you be mad instead? fuck— he's gonna cum to the thought of that.

I still can't get over stsg's introduction as a concept. gojo was built up to be isolatingly powerful, a league of his own: childish, annoying to all those close to him, hard to stand but respectable (aka nanami and utahime), a slippery guiding mentor, unruly and untamable, a whole force of his own and solely his own (the confidence, the disobedience to elders, the reputation, the fear and awe around him)---all introduced through yuuji's non-judgemental and curious lens. I think someone pointed ages ago out how- the closer someone is to gojo, the more tired they look inside. and that's why when they actually introduce the fact gojo had an actual, real friend- a best friend- you start to think, what? what kind of person would suit and match satoru gojo? who is this? who would make gojo feel equal? and it's somehow??? this obnoxiously moral guy?? filled with a kick of anger and buckets of tormented righteousness, and a witty (later turned bitter) benevolent streak. and you watch gojo watching him, always standing by him, watch him fit into place there like he couldn't see anything else. watch the in-sync laughter, the back-and-forth banter, watch them just be teenagers admist it - someway and somehow - same childish attitude, but younger, impressionable, and its like gojo's storing all his experiences with geto away in his mind. the discussions of who to protect-? gojo lives it out. the pain of geto's fall-? gojo carries it for the rest of his life, an aching open wound. it almost hurts that gojo's childish antics aren't complimented by geto's indulgent, light-hearted admonishing anymore. something you didn't realise was missing the whole time until now??? didn't realise "after all, I'm the strongest" used to be been "after all, we're the strongest". and in getting to know geto, you puzzle through how he was gojo's 'one and only': a guy who's personality comes off a bit controlling, a bit forceful, way too philosophical, clinically considerate- and somehow this really was gojo's best friend. they clashed over all their differences all their time together and yet even that was so important to them both, and you come to know it couldn't have been anyone else. this is who helped make gojo who he is. this is who was missing from him at the start.

I know the full arsenal update is out and hype for that but I just found the gutterman's poem in 7-2 and I HAVE to type about it because its night where I am and I cant wake up my friends to rant about Ultrakill.
Anyway, absolutely indescribable how we have the thoughts of a machine just laid bear in a secret for the first and maybe last time. The fact that a machine made for merciless slaughter could not only feel sadness for the person powering it but also WRITE a POEM? A machine made art??? The knowledge that they understand how cruel it is to make a human a blood battery, recognize it as torture, but also feel gratitude for the life they've been given?? It was known that machines had a sense of aesthetic from Swordsmachine and Mindflayer's entries but. Goddamn. The gutterman refers to the human as their mother and it states it CRIED when it crushed her skull as it hoped it would redeem its life.
Also the excerpt, "I know I know you would hate me so, and mother of me, I do too." Does this mean the Gutterman hated itself as much as the human? Did it hate the human instead along with the feelings of love and gratitude? Probably the former. Gutterman angst is so in.
V2's mannerisms and Swordsmachine's data entry are intresting, but a gutterman's eulogy for its prisoner and its attempt at redemption is another level. Actual machine thought process recorded!! Sapient lifeform that knows only war and death! The fact that the gutterman crushing the human's skull seemed to be out of mercy. Ough.
Noone has to interact I havent proof read this I am just RANTING this is CRAZY HAKITA HOW COULD YOU AND THE TEAM DO THIS

in regards to the constant dismissal of his aroace identity, i hate it when alastor 'fans' say and use the excuse: "he's fictional, he won't get offended."
like, you're right, but it can and will offend us.
when you see yourself being represented on screen, of course you'd feel enthusiastic about it — representation allows individuals to see themselves reflected in the media they consume, validating their identities and experiences. but when so many people take that representation and decide to disregard and discard it, it is so fucking frustrating. we finally have another character to be part of the tiny amount of representation we have, but then people don't even care about how much it means to us? like yeah, alastor won't get offended because he's not real, but it frustrates and annoys us. do you realize that it's also technically invalidating the aroace community? that you're invalidating our feelings? imagine feeling like you're finally being seen because your orientation is finally being represented in media, and people just decide to blatantly ignore, discard, and invalidate it.
media has such a powerful influence on real life, representation being a prevalent factor of it. there are numerous posts that dictate how people went to watch a movie/show or read a book just because a character depicts their identity in it — obviously, being represented is an incredibly uplifting and validating experience.
which is why seeing an aroace character in a popular show is so meaningful to us because we live in a world where romance and sex are literally everywhere and prioritized above all else. (and it's pretty obvious that alastor's on the repulsed end of the spectrum, but even if he wasn't, at least make an effort to acknowledge his sexuality instead of continuing to portray him as allo; aroace folks can be in relationships but it's not going to be the same thing with allos' experiences.)
any and every representation matters, but why does that seem to stop at people under the aroace spectrum? like y'all can't even let us appreciate the scraps of representation we have. we barely have any, so are we really that dramatic for being upset at how people easily disregard and dismiss our identities that are being depicted on screen just like that? is it truly wrong of us to want to defend and maintain the little representation we have?

Ryan did a bunch of interviews recently that I've been reading and I have some thoughts. You can find the interviews here and here.
There's a lot of terrible stuff in it but I don't have the time or inclination to bother with all that. I'm going to be focusing on two things he said in the interviews.
Starting with this from the House of the Dragon podcast which I've linked above.
Tumblr media
In it, Ryan talks about why he decided to contrast the lives of Hugh Hammer and Ulf the White with the lives of the privileged Targaryens. It was fascinating to get a peek into his head.
Ryan reads a rapist and thinks "this is a person worth deepening. We need an in-depth exploration of what goes on in this rapists head. We need the audience to sympathise with them."
Which wouldn't be so bad on its face, there's always room to analyse a fictional rapist. The problem is that he then reads about a little Black girl who raised herself on a tiny island rising up to become a dragon rider on her own merit. A little girl whose Valyrian heritage is constantly debated and discounted. He reads that and decides that there's nothing worth exploring there. Her story isn't unique. She isn't unique. In fact, she's so common that while we adapt and humanise not one but two rapists, we're going to erase one Black girl and turn the other into everyone's punching bag.
Then I read his puff piece from Big Think.
Tumblr media
This is a fascinating glimpse into his thought process. I read this and Ryan Condal's baffling decisions began to make a little more sense.
By his own admission, Ryan's ideal show is one where Black women are erased, flattened and ignored. He claims to write powerful women but we've not seen hide or hair of these women. In Ryan's show, nothing is ever deliberate and the women are largely passive participants in their own lives.
In Ryan's ideal show there's no room for a little black girl to claim a dragon with nothing but faith and her wits. In Ryan's ideal show we need all of the rapist men but the Black women are interchangeable AND replaceable.
In Ryan's ideal world, it is too much to ask that a Black girl be adored, have songs written about her and knights joust for her favour. In Ryan's ideal show, Black people aren't fully developed characters, they're props that he forgets about for episodes on end.
And that is why the show will continue to drop in ratings. When I saw the Nielsen numbers for the premiere, I laughed until I cried. The biggest streaming day ever for Max and they couldn't beat The Boys or Your Honour. The most recent numbers are even funnier.
But don't worry gang, House of the Dragon is doing great. It's now number three. It finally beat a four year old show! Everything is fine.

A huge problem with antizionist activists at the moment is that so many of them are just absolutely itching to see more violence. They don’t want to stop the violence. They don’t call for a ceasefire and peace anymore. Instead they call for Israelis/Jewish people to be ethnically cleansed from the region instead of Palestinians. Like they literally just think the “wrong people” are being murdered right now. They’re a bunch of western spectators with nothing on the line agitating for more violence in a region thousands of miles away so they can root for their “team.” It’s a game to so many of these people, and a game they want to end in even more violence than has already been perpetrated by the Israeli government and Hamas.

(this is part of the calendar 2024 lore, now on pre-order, to know more check out prev posts)
April was Keith's idea of relaxation. He enjoyed parks, the feng shui of them, nature's ability to thrive despite and against anything happening - the silence of it. Watching Keith wind down and relax when he is a strung wire most of the time, would definitely make Lance feel all lovey-dovey and clingy (as he tends to get) and when he’d worry he is disturbing, Keith would comment this is exactly how it should be - the constant yin to his yang, and the yang when he feels yin.
Also - both shirt and hoodie are Keith's (he has way too many hoodies with quotes). Lance took the hoodie for Keith, but Keith insisted he won’t get cold, so he wore it himself. On the way home Lance funds Keith the biggest sushi serving he could find on the menu, and, believe me, nothing lights up Keith's eyes like a table full of rice and algae. Lance just watches with a soft smile. (Keith does end up getting cold)

Venting About Unity's Pricing Plan Nonsense
Venting here, but this morning Unity announced changes to their pricing plan including charging a "Unity Runtime Fee" to a developer any time a user installs the product on their PC above a certain threshold ($200k revenue and 200k downloads on personal plan, less for paid plans). Oh it's also retroactive to all existing products made with the engine.
They're trying to justify it by claiming "the Unity Runtime costs money to maintain" - which is unhinged because I'm no software expert but I'm fairly certain Unity Runtime has existed for about as long as Unity has been capable of making builds. So uhhhh.......it's a thing that has existed for like a decade now, at least. This isn't some expensive new thing, and it almost certainly hasn't gotten that much more expensive that it's suddenly costing them millions more to maintain.
If this seems like a raw deal for the developer don't worry - if they pull up their work and simply transition to using Unity's in-house ad service instead of external ones they won't be forced to pay as much. :) And what's more is if you buy the really expensive Unity plans you won't have to pay as much in Runtime fees! I'd sort of compare this deal to forcing a developer to move into their ecosystem at gunpoint.
I'm sure this is also related to them recently merging with ironSource - a mobile ad distribution software company - for a staggering 4.4 BILLION dollars. It's another string of stupid moves and gross exploitation by the company that in the last year has laid off 600 of its workers (8% of its global staff).
With their trajectory over the last few years, at this point I've generally just got zero faith in the suits to not plummet this software into the dirt..
