Price had put Soap on medical leave after he got out of the hospital, his only responsibility being rest and recovery. Of course Ghost took time off to be with him as well. He didn't even need to ask either, Price just did the paperwork for the both of them at the same time.

Some days were better than others. Sometimes Soap had trouble remembering words or doing delicate tasks with his fingers. Ghost always waited patiently for him to work it out, only helping when Soap asked him too.

For the past hour, Soap had been lying in their bed, his lighthearted laughs filing their flat as he watched something on his phone. Ghost was sitting in the other room and reading a file Price had sent over, informing him on their continued investigation to find Makarov.

Ghost heard a particularly loud laugh before the box spring squeaked lightly, the sounds of Soap shuffling off the bed following soon after. He heard footsteps begin to approach him and he glanced over.

"Ghost!" Soap said cheerfully as he looked down at his phone. "You have to see this funny cat vid-"

Soap abruptly stopped speaking as he looked up, the words getting caught in his throat. The wide smile that always spread across his face with enough brightness to light up Ghost's entire world suddenly fell, swiping down in one smooth motion. His eyes widened slightly, almost as if in shock, and his mouth dropped open a sliver. His eyes locked onto Ghost's face, but there was no warmth to be found.

It was fear.

"Who are you?" Soap choked out, taking an apprehensive step backwards.

Ghost was immediately on his feet, the look on Soap's face shattering his heart. He raised his hands out in front of himself and curled his shoulders in, trying to make himself look less intimating.

"Johnny... it's me..." Ghost said slowly, the words coming out calmly despite the rising worry in his chest. "It's Simon."

Soap tilted his head as a deep furrow scrunched up his brow. His eyes jumped back and forth across Ghost's face, refusing to focus on one thing.

"What..." he let slip from his lips, breathless and confused. "I... I don't..." He squinted slightly. "...Simon?"

"Yeah, it's me," he said quietly, taking a careful step forward. Thankfully, Soap stayed where he was and he let Ghost approach him, although he still looked unsure, small.

Ghost gently took Soap's hand and placed it up against his face. At the same time, he wrapped his arm around Soap's waist and pulled them closer together. Once their bodies were pressed up against one another, Soap let out a shuddering sigh and he dug his face into Ghost's neck.

"I..." Soap started hesitantly, holding Ghost back tightly. "I don't recognize you..."

His usual confidence was gone, the words coming out weakly, almost broken in shame.

"But you recognize my voice?" he asked.

Soap nodded in silence.

"Okay..." Ghost said quietly, letting his fingers trace up and down Soap's spine. "Just close your eyes then. Listen to me speak."

Soap closed his eyes.

"I got you," Ghost murmured soothingly. He wanted nothing more than for his imperfect words to reach Soap and rid him of his fears. He wanted Soap to feel safe. "It's me. Just listen to my voice, love. Everything's going to be okay. I won't let go. I love you, Johnny."

The first time ghost and soap share a bed properly ghost is subjected to soap's feet always being ICE LEVEL COLD. The sensation of the coldness made him yelp in surprise (though he will adamantly deny it) when they tangled their legs together. Soap finds it hilarious, Ghost is concerned for his circulation.

ofc i have more! i went a bit overboard LOL

ghost helps the team improve footwork & agility. he and price want them to take elements & skills from figure skating and use them in hockey.

at first, ghost is harsh, he wants them to understand how much they need to shape up, & although the team are intimidated, they along with price appreciate how dedicated ghost seems.

price is rlly proud of how ghost is getting back to the ice. he's not doing it himself yet but it's progress.

the team really respects ghost ! at first they were skeptical bc what would a figure skater know about hockey but ghost has proven himself over and over again.

again, it's not everyday that you get an ex-olympic skater coaching you.

gaz won't admit it but he's secretly a really big fan of ghost and has been for a while. he was freaking out the first time he met him at the rink.

soap likes to get into fights on the ice, literally how hasn't he been suspended, and bc of this he constantly gets bruised & banged up.

ghost sees this and there's plenty of tender moments between them where ghost pulls out the med kit, and quietly cleans up his cuts and scrapes.

despite the clear expertise that ghost displays, no one has seen him in action, on the ice.

soap is very eager to change this!

everyday before & after training & sometimes during training, soap chats with ghost, ghost cracks dry jokes, and soap begs for ghost to get back to the ice.

ghost claims he'll never do it, but everyday after hours he goes and skates, tries out some old skills, and tries to ignore the ache that creeps into his knee after a long time on the ice.

eventually, soap stays behind and ghost finally. finally agrees to show him his most impressive jump.

ghost gets his skates on and warms up and tries his hardest move, and he fails. he lands hard on the cold ice, bit soap's warm hands are helping him up, so it's not so bad.

and now soap has a mission!

ghost has been helping them improve for months, it's time he repays the favour. so every night, he and soap go to the rink & ghost practices & falls, but he's having more fun.

until one night, ghost jumps and this time, he doesn't fall. he lands and he turns around and gives soap the biggest grin soap has ever seen.

and despite it's the first time ghost has landed on his feet in weeks, he's immediately tackled off his feet by soap and they're crashing onto the ice. and soap has his warm, warm hands cradling his face and laughing and praising him, and ghost can't help but kiss him.

and soap kisses back.

- ghost has soft shoulders, soapgaz love it

- gaz has specific music if he wants to listen to something while he sleeps, soap can sleep to anything so they always share earbuds

- ghost listens to whatever shuffle puts on

- soap always takes up the most space + needs to cuddle SOMETHING

- ghost tries to stay awake & alert (book in hand, 1 earbud out) but he gets too cozy btwn them

- as the big strong boyfriend, ghost knows he should be looking out for them, he always gets this crushing anxiety about being unable to protect his team and his loved ones. With Soapgaz tho, he knows that his srgs are some of the most capable ppl, that can hold their own (and even protect him too) so when his eyes get heavy, for once in his life he feels comfortable just sleeping

My favourite hot take is that Simon adapts way better to being a civilian than Johnny does.

Johnny went and left for the army the second he could do so, relentlessly pushed his career and is, most likely, rarely not on base unless he's been told to fuck off or move his arse home (by either his superiors or family).

Simon on the other hand finished school and then took up an apprenticeship before joining the army. Even then he came home, took prolonged leave to help his family out. He spent way more time just living that reality. And even post Roba he was at home for a while before everything went to hell. He might not take a lot of leave since, because he has nothing to come home to, but he still knows to adjust to it.

If they take leave together Ghost settles remarkably well, still keeping an eye open but he's an adult who had time outside the forces to properly adjust to life.

Soap struggles. He gets by with his charm and bright blue eyes, and that's a good thing because he's too explosive, too intense for most normal social interactions.

He's caught somewhere between the 18 year old boy and the hardened SAS soldier and never spent enough time away to really grow into just John MacTavish. Not Sergeant, not Soap, not the FNG. Just him as a person outside of the military.

He navigates this part of his life like its a minefield. Making it through but boy oh boy, it's not looking graceful.

Ghost helps him mellow out in that regard, pointing out the messy weird mechanics of normal civilan life to him. Teaches him to enjoy that and not let his job ruin him. Simon who knows how quickly it can all fall apart can't help to see the beauty in the peace most people get to experience. He'll be damned if he can't share that beauty Johnny. Even if it's always just for a little while.

And because it's Ghost, who never steered him wrong Soap let's himself be led. Allows himself experiences outside of work and his family. And while he might not be eager to admit it, it makes him a better person.

And years down the line when they both made it out, last mission just one too many that was too close for comfort, all of that helps John MacTavish to adjust. Sure he mourns his life in the military, someone like him is bound to, but he's not too worried. He knows how to get by now. And even the days where he feels very out of his depth, he can approach with ease. Because he still has Simon at his side to show him the way forward.

Sometimes Ghost wakes up without Soap in his arms. It shouldn't be something to panic over but with what they do for a living - and when Ghost definitely remembers falling asleep with Soap next to him - it freaks him out a little bit.

Of course Soap is always fine. He can take care of himself. But still Ghost gets out of bed and goes searching for its partner.

Usually he finds Soap in the bathroom or getting something to drink or coming in from outside after hearing a noise and just wanting to be safe.

"There you are," Ghost will huff sleepily. It digs the heels of its hands in its eyes and rubs away sleep.

Soap will roll his eyes and finish up whatever he was doing when Ghost found him. "I'm a big boy, ya know. I can take care of myself." It's always delivered lightly, and Soap always goes and engulfs Ghost in a reassuring hug.

"I'm well aware." Ghost wraps his arms around Soap and rests his cheek on top of his head.

"Promise I'll stop scarin' ya." Soap mumbles into Ghost's chest. Ghost leans against a wall and pulls Soap with it.

"I don't think you will." Ghost whispers back.

They'll go back to bed and Ghost will practically wrap his whole body around Soap to make sure he doesn't leave until morning.

They never talk about Ghost's fear of losing Soap while asleep. They never acknowledge what could happen while Ghost was unable to fight back. And they never plan to.

Ghost doesn't get much sleep the rest of the night.

But soap can't drive stick to save his life. He stalls like 6 times before he gets it into gear

1 : Soap never had any idea that woman wanted him carnally, he's not the most observant on that front (he never noticed Ghost flirting with him and thought his love was one-sided for the longest time, but tbf Ghost was also very discreet about it)

2 : He sewed the hat, eyepatch and hook himself, because he's the best uncle and then got distracted as he was wrapping it up, so now he's watching a tutorial on youtube about how to build a voice box. Honestly how hard could it be, he builds explosive devices as a hobby (listen, Price doesn't have to know)

3 : He is out to his family, but doesn't want his mum to know he has a boyfriend because he knows she'll insist on meeting him and welcoming him to the family and making a big deal out of this, and he knows that Ghost isn't ready for that.

4 : Christmas is obviously a very hard time for Ghost, but he is very very in love with Soap and some days still can't believe that it's mutual, but then his Johnny does something like that and his head gets quieter while he's melting a bit.

5 : For the people that didn't see my other post : the bird is a Caique parrot, and they're supposedly very energetic, a bit loud, medium sized, unintelligible, very friendly to what they consider their family, adventurous and danger prone, with an explosive personality and a hate of boredom, so basically the adhd bird.
