OMG Clandestine is done!
I am so so so excited to say I just posted the epilogue to Clandestine! Featuring a beautiful commission from @itslotuseater!
Ships: Jegulus, background wolfstar, dorlene, pandalily, rosekiller Rating: M Length: 142k (FINISHED! COMPLETED! AHH!)
Summary:
He was crying. “You can do that?” He repeated, feeling like he was in some sort of dream. And then, Sirius seemed to realize. Because for a twelve-year-old, he was decently smart, and knew him better than anyone. “D’you…d’you want to do that, Reggie? I thought…I thought it was just a game?” But he could only shake his head. Because it wasn't a game. He was a boy. And he could tell from Sirius's nervously resigned expression that Sirius knew it, too. "It's...not a game." --- There's not enough Trans Regulus Black, so here's a fic to help fix the problem. Rated mature for lots of references to transphobia and Walburga Black being a piece of shit. COMPLETED (I'm not crying, you are)
Ahhh, my long-winded thank-you note:
First and foremost, thank you to Arson, my amazing Alpha Reader who brainrotted with me throughout almost the entire process. I literally could not have finished this without you, and I am so thankful to have you in my life. You've helped me through so many cases of horrible Writer's Block, encouraged me whenever I needed it, and you're an amazing friend. I hope you love your "Barty and Evan's Bitch" shirt :D
Second, to my wife, who literally dealt with me talking about this fic for TEN MONTHS. You're literally the most amazing and supportive person in my life, and I love you more than words. Thank you for being the James to my Regulus.
Third, to my Beta Reader, Kat, who is still wading through the trenches of this fic finding all my mistakes. I am so glad to have you and thank you for dealing with all of my errors and answering my messages at odd hours of the night.
Fourth, to all of the people who have encouraged me: Abby, Danielle, Kelz, everyone on the discord servers who has seen me struggle, you guys are amazing and I am so thankful to you.
Fifth, to the lovely people who created fanart for this fic. You all are amazing and you brought this to life. I bow down to you, truly, you are so incredibly talented.
Sixth, to the people who I interviewed about dysphoria and being on T, so I could have a more well-rounded understanding about Regulus's experience. Though I identify as trans, I am so thankful that other trans people were willing to give their experiences in areas I wanted to describe as accurately as possible.
And last, to all of you, who read and kudosed and inboxed and recommended and commented and kept me going. You all are amazing, and you've made this such a positive experience. This fic really was for me, to work through my own gender an discover about myself, and I am so thankful you have been here along this journey.
I want to reiterate that this is one trans person's journey, but I think it's so important to have representation in all forms of media. I'm hoping that my version of Reggie has helped with that a little bit! He's my baby, and he deserves all the good things.
Keep an eye out for the B-sides of this fic! I'll add a chapter to this work linking to it, so if you're subscribed to this, you'll get an e-mail. I'll also be editing this work to fix all the errors, and I'll be doing the B-sides as I go. It probably won't be for a couple of weeks, since I am now working, and I won't have any strict posting schedule, but I'm excited for those as well!
I love you all. Thanks for being a part of this journey.

Another one, thank you!
Barbie dolls: Evan x Barty x Regulus x genderfluid!reader
Word: 1.3k ish
Summary: you recently realized that you are genderfluid and are worried to tell your partners
Warnings: I made Sirius genderfluid, you're worried your partners will leave you, blowjobs mentioned, its a little too close to my jegulus one and it's making me wanna kms, JOKING JOKING we’re cool here right guys, Regulus gets a little pretentious and poetry boy, google translate French, I think that's about it
You loved your partners deeply. Evan, Barty, and Regulus were all lovely in each of their own ways. You told them just about everything. Sharing is caring as many say. However, you've been hiding certain feelings from them. Recently you've noticed things about yourself. Some days you felt like you were a man and others you were a woman. And on occasion, the rising sun would find you somewhere between. You didn't want to bother your lovers with such minuscule things like feelings. You'd prefer to just sit in silence and suffer on your own. You wanted to tell them everything. Every time you opened your mouth to spill everything you felt your throat dry up. You'd quickly reroute the conversation to Barty's day.
They noticed no matter how hard you tried to hide it. You were quieter and withdrawn. It set Regulus on edge, jumping at every sound. Barty wanted to fix it so he amplified his energy levels, squealing and bouncing all over the place around you. Evan just felt left behind. One-third of his lovers were hiding something. How could one's heart survive that? His mood was dampened, he looked close to tears every time he was reminded of you. Which was frequent.
You four planned out a study date, hosted in Regulus' dorm. You had started sitting together on his bed hunched over your schoolwork. It quickly devolved into your books being on the floor and the four of you tangled together. Regulus was lying on top of you, his cheek squished against your shirt. Evan was pressed into your side, squeezing your arm to his chest tightly. Barty was on your other side, pressing his face to the top of your head. You felt the weight of your confession on your shoulders. Usually, the boys would be tangled with each other an equal amount. Today, however, they were holding on to you. Evan’s hold on your arm made it seem he was convinced you’d run away. You were certain this had everything to do with your odd behavior. You decided you ought to handle this the mature way, with vague insecure questions.
“Would you still love me if I was a boy?” Regulus raised his head staring at you. You avoided his gaze, keeping your eyes on the ceiling. You heard Barty sniff and the weight of his chin left your head.
“Yes,” Regulus muttered, resting his chin on your clavicle.
“And if I was a girl?” Evan raised his head at that, staring at the side of your face intensely.
“Am I allowed to say ‘I’m off to fuck my girl’ in this scenario?” Barty asked, dropping a kiss on your cheek. Evan groaned, reaching around you to pinch Barty’s nose.
“take this seriously, B. And yes darling, we will still love you if you’re a girl.” Evan said. He rubbed your shoulder, kissing your temple.
“What if I was neither? Or both?” Regulus hummed at you.
“Like Sirius?” Barty hissed at Regulus’ suggestion. Barty wrapped his arms around you, pulling you to his chest.
“You dare to compare our lover to your brother, Regulus? Does he not call you a bitch on the regular?” Barty said. Evan sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“B, your only child is showing. I call Pandora much worse things.” Evan explained, pushing Barty’s hair away from his forehead. Barty leaned back into Evan’s touch.
“Yes. Sirius also has boy days, girl days, somewhere in between days. Sometimes he’s a boy, others’s a girl, and even occasionally he’s neither. Is that how you feel, mon amour?” Regulus waited in silence, even Evan’s hand paused on Barty’s head. You nodded, keeping your eyes on the ceiling.
“I’ll love you no matter who you are, you’re still you. You’re still my partner, girl, boy, both, neither.” Evan whispered to you. He kissed your cheek. Your breath hitched, waiting on the approval of your other two boyfriends. You imagined how they could easily leave, never speak to you. again, and crack your relationship in half. Barty pinched your shoulder.
“I’ll love you until my death,” Barty said, dragging his knuckle down your cheek.
“Bit dramatic, my love” you whispered. You didn’t want to speak much louder, scared if you did your partners would shank you. Regulus still hasn’t spoken. His chest was pressed into yours. He loved his brother beyond whether he’d call Sirius his brother or his sister. Could he love you that much?
“Regulus, you haven't spoken up yet,” Evan said wondering if Regulus forgot what they were talking about, entranced by you. It wouldn't be the first time. Regulus' finger graced over the underside of your chin, silently begging you to look at him. Your throat was tight and your eyes stung but you tilted your head down. You met Regulus' eyes, he tilted his head to the when he saw the tears brimming in your waterline.
“My love for you goes beyond the bounds of something so fickle as gender, mon coeur” Regulus quietly said, brushing his thumb over the bottom of your cheek. You pressed your lips together, feeling extremely close to crying. Regulus noticed and scooted up so he could press his lips under your eye. You felt a tear slip out the corner of your eye, racing back towards the mattress.
Evan kissed your temple while Barty's fingers traced your hairline. You let out a shaky sigh, your tears wavering your composure. After a few silent moments of your three boyfriends comforting you with their touches, Barty decided to speak up. His voice was still quiet, not wanting to fully disrupt the moment.
“You know, baby, I can eat a thesaurus too. I'll sound just like Reginald.” Barty said, smacking his lips loudly onto your forehead. Regulus groaned. Evan sighed, rolling his eyes.
“Oh my Godric,” Evan muttered as Regulus returned to his spot on your chest. Barty laughed, a little too close to your ear for your liking.
“Never sucking your dick again.” Regulus sniped before cuddling against you. A soft smile pulled over his lips as you played with his hair. Barty's tone dropped, his amusement depleting.
“Wait, really?” Barty asked, picking his head up. Regulus stayed silent, keeping his eyes closed. You felt your chest warm at his relaxed look.
“Regulus, are you being serious?” Regulus ignored Barty again, sitting with his lips sealed. You tucked his hair behind his ear.
“You're so pretty, Reg.” You whispered. Regulus' smile grew just a millimeter but it made Evan coo. Evan stroked Regulus' cheek with his knuckle.
“I'm getting hints of favoritism here,” Barty said. You craned your head back to look at him. He had a pout and grumpy eyebrows. You patted his cheek. Barty leaned towards you, puckering his lips out. You gave him a light peck, making his smile return at full brightness.
“It's okay, Baby. We still love you.” Barty hummed at your reassurance, pressing his cheek back against the crown of your head.
“I'll write you a poem showing my love tomorrow,” Regulus whispered into the material of your shirt. Barty let out a quiet gasp. You could practically hear him batting his lashes.
“You mean it, Reginald?” Barty asked with a high-pitched voice. Regulus pulled you tighter against him.
“Don't push it.” Barty deflated again, dropping back onto you. Evan reached over your head, caressing Barty's cheekbone.
“I’ll give you extra bacon tomorrow at breakfast,” Evan whispered, with the voice he used to seduce you three. You groaned, gripping onto the back of Regulus' shirt. Regulus pressed his nose into your shirt, face down in your stomach to avoid Evan's sultry tone. Barty swooned pushing his face further into Evan's hand.
“Oh, Rosie, how you woo me.” Regulus peaked an eye open at you. You both rolled your eyes at Barty's words but chose to let them have their moment. You settled back into quiet cuddles, now with a blanket of peace warming you four. Soon you heard Regulus' soft snores that made Evan coo and Barty leave a kiss on his forehead. You stayed as still as possible to not wake him.

Remus: i need to talk to Barty
Dorcas: now why would you need to do that?
Regulus: i dont think ive ever heard the phrase "need to talk" and "Barty" in the same sentence before
Remus: its an emergency-
Dorcas: what happened?
Remus: its a long story- about uh, my furry little problem
Regulus: oh, OH
Dorcas: furry?-
Regulus: jesus, does he know?
Remus: thats the problem, im not sure if he does, i was talking with Sirius in a classroom and he just flat out walked out in the middle
Regulus: and Barty is the worst gossip you'll ever meet-
Evan: why are we talking about Barty?
Regulus & Remus in unison: nothing!
Evan: i- what the hell?
Dorcas: Evan what is a furry little problem?
Evan: im sorry?
Remus: Rosier where the fuck is Barty
Evan: why does everyone always expect me to know what hes doing?
Regulus: so you don't know?
Evan: nah he's in the common room, but still!
Regulus: okay, ill go have a nice chat with him
Remus: thanks Reg
*Regulus leaves*
Evan: you and Barty hooking up or something?
Remus: what? no-
Dorcas: Lupin's too busy banging Reg's brother
Evan: ah, right, havent caught up on the recent gryffindor drama, you and mckinnon still having a lovers quarrel?
Dorcas: lovers- What?!
Evan: right you haven't realized you like like her yet, sorry, so much drama with those lions honestly
Remus: excuse me, i'm right here
Evan: yeah but technically you're a wolf, so
Remus, pulling out his wand: what did you just say? who told you?
Evan: oi! i found out on my own! i'm not as stupid as some of you people think i am, plus Barty's also known for ages,
Remus: HE HAS?!
Evan: well technically all of us besides Cas and Pandora, I know that Reg knows, but that one was pretty obvious
Dorcas: what the hell are we talking about?!
Remus: none of your business
Dorcas: damn
Evan: don't worry, we haven't told anyone! that would be cruel
Remus: and you and Barty aren't cruel?
Evan: you wound me, Lupin
Remus: Rosier, please
Evan, whispering: cross my heart, mate. honestly it doesn't seem to benefit anyone to know, but id suggest you tell your friends to stop talking so loudly, we know about their animagi, and when Reg finds out his boyfriend and brother are doing stupid shit like that he'll lose it.
Remus: fucking hell-
Barty: alright, whats the fuss about, why is Reggie pissy and why'd he threaten me
Evan: Bee, Lupin thinks you're gonna tell people about his furry little problem
Dorcas: for fucks sake-
Barty: oh! yeah nah, i've known for awhile, i won't say anything, not my secret to tell
Remus: im going to have an aneurysm
Regulus: wait- what? Rosier you know now?
Evan: I've known for a while, so has Bat, we both came to our own conclusions, we just tell eachother everything, so
Regulus: what?
Remus: apparently everyone knows about everything and im going to lose my fucking mind
Barty: we aren't gonna tell anyone, Dora and Cas still don't know
Dorcas: im so bloody confused right now, im gonna go talk to marlene,
Barty: ooo! have fun!
Evan: use protection!
Dorcas: fuck off you two!
Remus: im just- gonna take my crisis elsewhere, thanks Reggie
Regulus: uh, no problem Remus...
*Remus & Dorcas leave*
Evan: successfully confused the two smartest people we know, this is the best day ever
Barty: fuck yeah!

"Reggie, my love."
"What, James?"
James felt so in love in this moment that he thinks he might propose right then and there, without a ring, or without Sirius knowing.
"Can we tell him yet?"
"No."
Regulus and James have been in a secret relationship for about two years now. Honestly, James is surprised Sirius hasn't figured it out or that he hasn't told Sirius.
James has told Sirius everything since they were fourteen. They were immediate friends, but James didn't start trusting Sirius until fourteen. Just like with Marlene.
James has known Marlene for as long as he can remember. Their parents were friends before they were born, and they've always grown up together. But, he didn't start trusting her right away.
"Why not?"
"You know how Sirius is."
They are in the Slytherin common room. Sirius never goes in there. He's banned. Slughorn banned him after a really bad prank he did on Severus. He hasn't been allowed in there since.
Which is why they use the common room to meet up. Now, of course, their friends are always there. Especially when James' best friend is dating Regulus'. But, it's the best place.
Marlene rolls her eyes. "Yeah, dramatic."
"Who else is dramatic that we know?" James asks. "Oh, that's right, you."
"Shut up, bitch."
"Hey!" Barty yells. "I'm the only one that can call people bitches."
"Oh, I'm sorry, mister 'I won't call Evan a bitch'."
"Can everyone just shut the fuck up?"
"Sorry, Cas."
"Sorry, babe."
"Talk, now. Why can't you tell Sirius. It's not that big a deal."
"You really want us to tell him?" Regulus asks. "Fine, let's see how it goes."
Barty smirks. "Yes! I gotta go get Ev and Dora!" Barty jumps up and runs up the stairs while calling over his shoulder, "Don't start without me!"
Evan, Barty, and Pandora come bounding down the stairs. "What is happening?" Pandora asks. "B just told us to hurry and didn't explain."
Barty smiles. "Their telling Sirius."
Evan' eyes go wide. "No."
"Yes."
"They do realize what's going to happen, right?"
"Yep." He pauses. "Well, maybe. I'm not entirely sure."
"Would you two just shut up?" Regulus states.
***
"Hey, Pads. How are you?"
"What do you want, Prongs?" Sirius looks behind him. "Is that my brother and Slytherins?"
"Dora' a Ravenclaw."
"Not the point. What are they doing here?"
"Yeah, about that..." He got cut off by his best friend.
"Jamie and Reg are dating."
"What the fuck, Marls!"
"Their what!?"
Lily laughs. "He had to have figured it out at some point."
"Shut up, Lils."
"When the fuck."
Mary smiles. "Mar, no."
"Two years."
"Two years!? You've been...."
Remus continues, "Dating."
"For two years!?"
"Yes?"
"Also, when did you start calling Rosier, Dora?"
"When he started dating Reg."
"Marlene Elizabeth McKinnon!"
"You made friends with Slytherin'?"
"Technically, Dora' a Ravenclaw."
"Not the point! Do you love him?"
James knows he loves him but he's not sure if he should tell him. He's said it before, but Regulus has never said it back. "Of course I love him."
"Then, choose."
"What?"
"Me or him?"
"Pads, please."
"Pads, don't make him choose."
"Stay out of this, Moony. Me or him?"
James looks at his best friend. He knows that if he asks Marlene right now to choose between him and Dorcas, she would choose Dorcas 100%.
Marlene knows exactly what he's thinking. "You know I will be with you either way."
"I know, Marls. But I also know you would choose Dorcas over me."
"You know what you have to do." James nods.
"Pads, Sirius."
Sirius gives him a pitying look. "Great, choose my brother over me."
"He hasn't even said anything." Mary says.
"He never calls me by my name."
"I'm sorry."
"No, don't. I don't want to see you. You're not my friend. Not anymore." He walks up the stairs.
"Moony, Wormy."
Peter shakes his head and follows Sirius. Remus walks up to him. "You know I love you, right?" James nods. "But I will always choose Sirius." He nods again.
"I love you, too." He walks up the stairs.
Lily and Mary walk up to him. "You know we always will choose you."
"No, go to Sirius. I'll be fine. Besides, I'm always happy." James could hear Marlene scoff behind him.
"Yeah, right." Mary says sadly.
"Please, just go to Sirius, ok?"
"Yeah, we will. In a little." Lily hugs him, and Mary joins soon after. They stay like that for half a minute, and then they walk upstairs.
"Jamie -"
"I'm fine, Marls." He walks to the passage way to get out and stops in his tracks. "Don't follow me." He walks out.
James makes it to the Astronomy Tower and stares down at the ground. He can see the dent on the ground where he rammed his broom into it. The blood from that so-called ramming.
He can remember how he was so distracted by Regulus that he didn't see where he was going and didn't realize he was going down until he hit the ground. Luckily, his head didn't hit it, but he did get some pretty bad bruises from it.
"Jamie?" He didn't even hear the footsteps.
"I'm fine, Reg."
"No, you're not. You choose me over, Sirius. He's your best friend."
"No, he's not. Marls is."
"Not the point. Jamie, you can't just run away from your problems."
"I didn't. My problems are in my head. They always are."
"Jamie -"
"I'm fine, Regulus."
"No, you're not! You can't just do that!"
"Do what?"
"Run away from everyone!"
James finally turns around to face Regulus. "Why would anyone care?"
"I do! I love you! No one else!"
"You - you - you just -" James takes a deep breath in. "You love me?"
"Of course I do, you idiot. Why wouldn't I?"
"I don't know. Because I'm a Gryffindor?"
Regulus laughs. "Why would I care? Even if I didn't love you before we started dating, I would still love you now."
James smiles. "Really?" Regulus nods. "I love you, too."
James loves Regulus so much. He's glad it turned out this way. He would have rather kept his boyfriend and friend, but it wasn't supposed to work out that way.
"I know. How could you not?" They both laugh.

Hermione being forgotten by everyone she ever cared about would've been her bad ending. Basically she gets Xion'd (Kingdom Hearts reference)
I'm glad she basically got a happy ending even if I don't ship Romione or like Ron as a character.
She's definitely the best person to ever have been given the title Minister of Magic.
She's the best character for that job. Arguably, the only one who should be permanently in that role. JK Rowling has made a character that's essentially the closest thing to a potential vigilante you could have in Harry Potter. If she didn't become part of The Golden Trio, I'd imagine she'd end up like Anakin Skywalker.
What do I mean by that? Well, basically, she'd be the key to changing everything about Harry Potter's story by falling from grace. Just like Anakin's fall to the dark side is the entire story of Star Wars. Hermione's fall would mirror that perfectly imo.
She's already the closest thing to a Chosen One for Muggleborns. She's the only character deeply concerned with the injustices of the wizarding world. She'd be far more dangerous than even Voldemort if she turned completely evil. But just like Anakin, she'd never be too far gone from saving. In Anakin's case, it was Luke. In Hermione's case, it would be Draco Malfoy.
Draco, just like Hermione, is in a role that parallels Anakin's. Anakin chose wrong by believing in Palpatine. While Draco never had a choice at all.
His options were kill Dumbledore or you and your mother & father will die. He likely would've been tortured for a very long time before being killed knowing how sadistic Bellatrix is.
In conclusion, Hermione & Draco's best possible ending is with each other. In every universe. That is a fact that will not be denied.
Dramione is the best future for the wizarding world. Even JK Rowling's own messed up mind thought Dramione was the answer to who Hermione would end up.
I love that Dramione would be compelling in any universe but most importantly in their own.
I love that Dramione could realistically go any direction and still eventually get their happy ending. What's most fascinating about it is how Hermione would eventually love someone who really understands her. The real her. Not just Harry Potter's Best Friend. Not just the second choice for Ron Weasley.
Hermione Granger & Draco Malfoy's character development throughout the story of Harry Potter really shows how dark the universe is, and I love that. Hermione isn't some pure hearted heroine. Draco's a bad apple with a rotten attitude but a good heart underneath. A family rotten to the core with a few exceptions (Narcissa, Andromeda, Regulus & Sirius)
I really love the idea of Hermione learning about both of Draco's family lines, The Malfoys & The Blacks. Her learning about Regulus from Draco. Her learning that Draco actually looks up more to Regulus than his own father after learning the truth from Kreacher.
Draco trying to destroy the locket Horcrux but needing Hermione to help him since he knows their strongest together.
Hermione learning about Draco throughout their years because she's convinced herself that to know your enemy is the best way to beat them. Hermione starts stalking him more than Harry because she's got much better skills doing that than him. She is also far more frightened by the emptiness in his eyes after his coming back to Hogwarts.
Harry tells her about Malfoy wanting to throw himself off the astronomy tower if he has to endure going back to Hogwarts for another two years. Of course, Harry brushes this off. Hermione doesn't. She takes this very, very, very, very seriously. She realizes what that means not only for his mental health but their own chances of survival.
If our biggest enemy in school wants to fucking off himself because of reasons I intend on discovering, then what chance do we have? Hermione thought.
Hermione Granger would not let Draco Malfoy die.
Hermione's development after Malfoy's hesitation & refusal to identify Harry would be insanely important to their relationship going forward. It would also strain her relationship with Ron. Which was already strained & nearly destroyed when he abandoned their mission.
He was a coward at that moment. But the loathsome, evil, little cockroach wasn't? Her entire worldview would likely be turned on its head by what she experienced at Malfoy Manor.
Draco showed a level of bravery & character that she never thought existed until that moment. She would draw strength from knowing he does have a good heart underneath it all. Meanwhile, her fleeting romantic feelings for Ron were getting crushed time & time again. With his decision to abandon her & Harry being the straw that broke the camel's back.
Draco Malfoy was someone who, like an unsolved mystery, kept her wanting answers. Her desire to solve the riddle that was his life leading up to that fateful day at Malfoy Manor consumed her. She needed to know why he saved The Golden Trio. He definitely got punished for being unable to identify Harry. Bellatrix is far too evil to let her dear nephew get away with anything less than a few torture sessions disguised as Death Eater training.
Hermione wouldn't let her kill the good in Draco Malfoy's heart. His heart belongs to her. And her alone.

my favourite lines:
She’s been briefed on what his home life is like, too, and who he has to put up with. And since she was a young girl, Pomona has been determined to give everyone a fair chance.
→ i teared up a bit
“I was prohibited,” he says, pressing a scandalized hand to his chest. “Remus did it for me over break, while my brother played nurse.”
“And for the record,” he adds, “Remus was very strict with my cleaning regimen, so I did not get any infections if that’s what you’ve been contemplating.”
→ this is canon
"Feed her, Seymour," you say, and Sirius whips his head towards you.
→ the impact this line had on me is astronomical
“I’ve realized we’re co-parenting a Mandrake,” he starts, “and I feel as though I should at least know a little something about the mother of my child.” You raise your eyebrows at him. “You know, to ensure that they don’t grow up lacking proper guardianship.”
“First, you don’t want to be friends, and now, you want our child to be one of divorce.”
“Sirius, we haven’t even been married.”
He presses his forehead against the stone next to you, and you turn to look at him. “I’m pretty sure there are a good bit of people who’ve been married and know less about each other than we do,” he says.
→ this whole part had me screaming
“I don’t come to class one day, and you’ve made a new friend? Why couldn’t you have made a new one any other day? I think I need some time off. Maybe even early retirement.”
“It’s rude to abuse the wounded.”
→ remus is my baby, i love him
“You say that as if I won’t do it.”
James sits up, but only enough so that he may rearrange himself into a poorly structured child’s pose. “Stop being such fucking tease and do it then, babe.”
→ is this queerness i smell
“See? Look at this fucker. My child.” Sirius gestures dramatically at the potted plant. Remus leans up against one of the tables, only slightly amused, much more out of breath.
→ a plus parenting sirius
“You whined about me making new friends,” Sirius says, “so that I’d leave you alone, and now you’ve taken it upon yourself to steal said friend from me?”
→ dkjsksgl
“I want you to play with my hair,” Sirius says.
→ deceased, dead, i died
final review:
this was so so good omg!! the pining, the flirting, the co-parenting??? i loved everything about this you have no idea. i may not be the biggest marauders stan to ever exist and i’m more of a moony type of person, but i love pads so much <333 he is baby <333 i also have to say that this did not read like a 5k fic, i was genuinely surprised how quickly this was over.

Note
you tackled that tonks/lily post so gently, so elegantly, I am in awe. (also I wrote tonks / lily for efficiency sake but I do think it would be an interesting ship to explore!). for me - my priority in HP is sibling relationships tbh and FRIENDS. like I wrote a romance and 80% of it was about platonic relationships. also - I dislike how people are like 'mlm is for straight women!' and erase the fact that so many women writing mlm are queer (that was in a reply re: wolfstar), as shown by statistics (which you probably have, you are so clever!)
ahhh thank you that means a lot! glad my hard-earned wisdom from my (one year's 😂) long experience shipping both remadora and wolfstar is coming in handy LMAO. but seriously - fandom Means Something to so many people and that's wonderful, that shared passion and excitement and joy and connection and vulnerability, but the flip side of that, when it means different things to different people, the "why don't you see this the way i do?" / "how can you not care about this as much as i do?" / "why does this not mean the same thing to you as it does to me?" hits so much harder. i get it, it's a horrid feeling!
but i've realized that what often comes across as remadora bashing/ erasure from some wolfstar folks is really them trying to say, in maybe not so many words, that canon acknowledgement / a happy ending for wolfstar would really have meant a lot to me, and therefore i am creating in fic what i would have wanted to see on the shelf/on the screen, just these small ordinary happinesses that's been denied same-sex couples over and over and over and over, in mainstream media and in real life.
and conversely, often what remadora shippers are trying to say is that remus and tonks, individually and together, mean a lot to me too, and so it hurts to see tonks' character sidelined/ assassinated even more than it already was in the books, it hurts to see it repeatedly insinuated that just because it's het m/f makes it automatically less queer, less 'cool,' less valid, less worthy of thoughtful consideration and affirmation and celebration, especially now that canon is long dead and buried and the fandom has really become its own thing.
(i don't know the jegulus and jily fandoms well enough to say, but.. you get the idea)
are gay people and same-sex relationships discriminated against? absolutely. are women a marginalized group? for sure. what about bi people, especially bi folk in m/f relationships? oh gosh don't get me started.
but. one side claims misogyny, the other claims homophobia, something something 'protecting male friendships,' something something biphobia, … it's tiring. it's the oppression olympics and i'm not about that (especially in this fandom! this fandom!!! of all places!). i'm tired. everyone has scars and hurts and is just trying to have a nice relaxing self-indulgent time. i would love for more people to read/write femslash, fic about the actually unlikable or morally complicated characters, and dark fic, but more than that i want people to enjoy themselves and be happy in fandom! ship and let ship. write whatever you want. don't want to read it? don't read it. fandom is for joy and silliness and fun. and for writing and gifting me james/lily/peter fic, obviously 😊
OKAY WOW SOAPBOX. i have feelings about ship wars, especially of the political moralizing and activism sort.
-#-
anyway yes gen fic is another area that's so hard to find a community for. AO3 already does better than most in having the & tag (the platonic 'regulus & sirius' made it into the top 10 tags of fics written last year! amazing) but it's inconsistently tagged: this first war longfic i'm currently reading, Power the Dark Lord Knows Not, is far more sirius & james and sirius & regulus, heck even remus & peter and sirius & peter, than it is wolfstar, but the slash ship is the only one tagged -- this is a delightfully chaotic minerva & peeves oneshot that's not tagged -- and ... even if it IS tagged, who really goes looking for remus & professor binns fanfiction? i'm a little sad that genuary never really came back after that first year too. ah well.
-#-
also hahahaha yes the stats you want are here. these stats are from 2013. 2013. imagine how different they probably look now, and in this defiantly queer section of the HP fandom at that.

Trigger Warnings for Old As Your Omens
Hello! I’m so glad you’re taking care of yourself while reading this thicc war fic. Thank you for actually reading the tags/author’s note and stopping by.
Tags serve two purposes: to help mark trigger warnings, yes, but mostly to tell you what a fic is ABOUT. Even silly tags are actually giving the reader information about the tone and style of the story. However, given this is a war fic and some of our characters have absolutely horrific pasts and go through hard, awful things - listing out every trigger in the tags would a) surpass the tag limit and b) honestly give you the wrong idea of what this story is ABOUT, versus what comes up in it. That’s why we have this post - the detailed, maybe too detailed, list and explanation of trigger warnings in Old As Your Omens.
DISCLAIMER: this is still a WIP. It’s fully outlined and most of it is written (though not necessarily edited), but all y’all who write know - that means nothing if the characters riot. Therefore, I have a PRETTY GOOD idea about what triggers will come up, but not a DEFINITIVE list - not until it’s done posting. I will do my best to highlight any new triggers and warn everyone so we can all have a good time and be safe, but your best bet is the chapter author’s notes.
Now, this is organized! First, are tags that are ON the fic but are more deeply expounded upon. Second, is a detailed list of triggers you might find in the story and then also a brief explanation. There is some overlap. Finally, if you have questions about a specific trigger, just message me!
More Information On Current Tags (Triggers Referenced By The Tags):
Bellatrix is SCARY | How scary? Deeply! A lot of the blood and gore archive warning comes from Bellatrix’ actions. More specifically, later in the story we see her: commit murder, dismember someone, and torture a main character. She also shrugs off the realization someone has been assaulted and while she does not rape a character, she does allow the rape of a character (which happens off screen).
POV Character Death | This is an ensemble cast; it starts with only Regulus and Hermione’s POVs, but the cast expands. At least one character with a POV will die. It’s on the tin, but it’s worth noting. It hurts, I’m not going to lie to you.
Torture | Ehm, well... yeah. People get captured, it doesn’t go great. Pasts are remembered.
Implied/Referenced Sexual Assault | Rape is, tragically, often a part of war. It’s never described in detail, but it is referenced at various points. I’ll do my best to mark if a chapter references it. There is also, much later in the book as we get deeper into the war, two characters who use the assumption of sexual assault to exchange information.
Psychological Horror | A character isn’t quite sure of their sanity and questions their reality, which is to me the scariest possible thing, so...be warned!
Walburga Black Is Her Own Content Warning | Implied/Referenced Child Abuse | these characters have survived some shit | These three tags interplay, mostly referring to the same thing, which is that Regulus and Sirius survived an absolutely gag-inducing, harrowing, awful childhood. Of course, it’s Harry Potter fic, there’s other canon abused children as well. The implied/referenced include verbal, physical, and sexual abuse. More details are below as well, but let’s break this down:
What will I SEE/READ in detail in OaYO:
Certain instances of physical and verbal abuse are either remembered or spoken of directly.
What is only referenced?
The sexual abuse is predominantly a reference rather than dealt with explicitly. At one point, a character reckons with their past sexual abuse (victim of pedophilia and incest) - these acts are NOT SHOWN, NOR ARE THEY GLORIFIED! But the character does remember the lead up and the aftermath as he begins to admit what happened was wrong and heal from it.
A Detailed List of Triggers:
Alright, team. This is a behemoth, which means if I tag every single thing that happens, even only briefly, there’d be TOO MANY TAGS to adequately function. That said - this is that list. Let’s dive in! I’m trying to go in order, but this is kind of a massive story to keep in the head, so bear with me please :)
Gore/Violence | This is an archive warning, I hope this one isn’t surprising in a war fic :) I will not warn throughout.
Explicit descriptions of gruesome wounds | Throughout. This will not be warned each chapter. Bones, blood, muscle tearing, the works.
Poorly Understood Learning Difference | Throughout: A character has dyslexia, a learning difference which presents differently depending on the person. Dyslexia is as diverse as humanity is. This character’s experience is SOLELY their experience. However, it is a minor plot point that the character’s parents and the wizarding world at large did not have language for nor compassion towards a magical child who struggled with speech/reading and part of the overall abuse this character suffered from their parent was an assumption of un-intelligence due to the learning difference. Chapter 7: In addition to magical culture, a muggle/magical character who doesn’t know much about it takes a stab at explaining it and promises to look into it more. They do a mediocre job of it, but their character wouldn’t really know much about it at this stage, especially because a lot of research has been done on dyslexia since the 90s.
Suicidal Thoughts | Some of these characters struggle with PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc. and they are neither in therapy or receiving other treatments. These thoughts do not cross into ideation, but they happen. I’ll do my best to warn for them, but I would advise being prepared throughout. Sometimes they’re subtle and I might miss a reference.
Implied/Referenced Child Abuse | This warning is throughout. Several of the characters have had less than stellar childhoods, and this is alluded to in various places. This is for vague references.
Past Child Abuse: Sexual/Physical/Verbal; Past/Survived Pedophilia/Incest --- NOT EXPLICIT! NOT GLORIFIED! | Referenced throughout (quite subtly in most places, but during a healing arc, more directly), warned in Author’s Note each week. A main character was a victim of pedophilia, incest, molestation, and rape. While none of these experiences are explicitly detailed or shown, they are referenced, and the character struggles with PTSD and magical memories of the events (again, the reader doesn’t see it), all while unpacking other elements of their trauma. Physical/Verbal: some of this is shown in magical memory, mostly it is referenced/remembered. Once in a while it is spoken of directly. This occurs throughout, but it WILL be included in the chapter by chapter trigger warnings.
Okay, but - why even include it? Ultimately, despite literal gagging and crying for the character on my part, this character was silenced their entire life. Part of their healing is finding their voice despite everything that was used to shut them up and make them obedient - including the shame around these abuses.
Implied/Referenced Homophobia, Internalized Homophobia | A character raised in the muggle world struggles with his attraction to men because of the homophobic beliefs of his guardians. He has some angst around it, but it isn’t a significant plot point, and after seeking different magical culture sources, deconstructs that piece of his upbringing.
Dubious-ish Consent (Not Between Main Pairings) | First off, fam, it’s not explicit! Just not me. Anyways - two characters have sex, but one lies about their readiness and desire for the relationship. The two characters don’t know each other well, and so the other partner doesn’t pick up on the lie. The partner who is compromising on their desires is a cisgendered man, and is doing so due to past trauma and guilt. It has poor effects upon his mental health. The other partner is a cisgendered woman, if their genders will impact your personal safety/ability to read.
Dubious-ish? Why not just say dubious? Because, well, the other partner really doesn’t know. She isn’t a mind reader, and she’s going through her own shit, too. Eventually, the more she knows him, she starts picking up on it, and they have a discussion.
Not explicit? Is it off screen or not detailed? Not detailed. The scene does occur, but it would get an M rating rather than an E.
Implied/Referenced Sexual Assault | In a few different instances, sexual assault is referenced or implied, sometimes on purpose by a character hiding their actual (treasonous) activities. Warned by chapter.
Torture | Chapter numbers revealed later (since editing might change them around) ; graphic depiction of this violence in a few chapters. I will warn in the chapter notes if torture occurs.
Major Character Death | What the FUCK!? Why isn’t this an archive warning!?!? Well... it is my hope that when I say “ANGST with a Happy Ending” and “If it’s not alright, it’s not the end” y’all will BELIEVE ME, paritcularly in a fic where resurrection happens literally the first chapter. Okay? Okay. Deep breaths. :)

Okay, I want to know your feelings about Jegulus. Do you see this ship as canon in any way? What is appealing and what can be not good about it, in your book?
hahaha boy oh boy well. hm lots to unpack here let's see.
i mean first off full disclosure right off the bat i am currently. writing two jegulus fics. so! clearly i do enjoy the ship in certain contexts and think it can be quite compelling. when i first heard about it i had very little interest but i was drawn in by, of course, the opportunities for angst and tangled relationship webs and also further exploration of the dynamic sirius has with his brother.
when it comes to canon, though, i tend to be a bit iffier about jegulus. i've never written jegulus in a canon-compliant universe and don't really have a desire to, but i have read one or two interpretations of their relationship that i enjoyed. but what i enjoy about their dynamic in canon is, predictably, the angst, and the exploration of the darker aspects of regulus's character and how james deals with that darkness. and of course the pain of jily later on down the line if regulus is watching james move on and fall in love with someone else <3
in general, though, i mostly enjoy jegulus in aus. and to be honest...i don't even really read much jegulus or seek it out. like, i have 212 hp fics bookmarked on ao3 (i bookmark fics i've read + enjoyed + want to be able to find again later) and only 7 of those are jegulus. and 2 are background jegulus lmao. so!
as for what is appealing about it. i like looking at regulus as a character who has a bit of a skewed moral compass and gets tangled up in fucked-up shit and doesn't realize he's in over his head until it's too late. i think that character creates a really fun setup for all sorts of different storylines. and i like exploring james as a character who feels an intense pressure to be like...this paragon of goodness, whose goodness is then challenged by his entanglement with regulus and the lengths that he's willing to go to for a person who he knows is just...kind of fucked-up and has done fucked-up things. like which of our own morals are we willing to sacrifice in the name of love? that question really compels me in the jegulus dynamic. and of course the messy relationship between james + sirius + regulus, exploring the black family home dynamic more and the ways it shaped sirius + regulus differently, james as a focal point of like...escape and goodness that they both turn to, in a way that sort of tugs him in different directions...honestly i just think there's a lot that can be really compelling about the ship!
that being said. what can not be good about it....well. look. everyone is allowed to enjoy this ship and these characters in whatever way they want. of course!!! however. since u ASKED. i am taking this as license to be a little bit of a hater <3
i have of course already written my rambling little philosophical essay on what i think went wrong with the jegulus fandom, so i won't go in depth on the confluence of factors that turned jegulus into such a cesspit. however i will say that the reason i don't really seek out jegulus fic very much and tend to just stick to like...reading the stuff my friends write bc i know i can trust them lmao is because i think that many of the things i find compelling about jegulus in the first place sort of get stripped away in a lot of popular fanon. like if regulus isn't morally bad in some ways i do feel like...that is just not the character i'm interested in. if there is no darkness or angst to it....well. it is not my cup of tea xx also an unpopular opinion i have is that i do not particularly want regulus to have friends lmao like i just am not really a fan of the little group of friends that has been created for him...i'm so sorry but i do not think pandora and regulus black would hang out xx and i am a barty + evan hater so i simply have no desire to read about those guys either xx
the last hater note that i will add. i cannot STAND seeing timothee chalamet's face everywhere thanks 2 the jegulus fandom. i absolutely need people to stop acting like regulus was a gorgeous little twinky model (NOT! that i think timothee chalamet is gorgeous. people act like he's the paragon of divine beauty tho). sirius is the only character in my book who u can get away with fancasting as a celebrity the rest of them....well they are all just guys. timothee chalamet is also simply my parasocial enemy i want to grind that man into dust simply for the way people foam at the mouth over him when u can walk into any intro creative writing course at a liberal arts college and find five men who look exactly the same. and that's my two cents on that!

Secret Boyfriend | R.B
Paring: Regulus Black X Lupin!Fem!Reader
Summary: Keeping secrets seem to run in the Lupin family but one of the two twins has a bigger secret than the other can imagine.
Pitter-patter could be heard inside the Gryffindor Common room. The Scotland weather never really seemed to make up its mind during the period between winter and spring. Nevertheless, it brought a calming atmosphere to the red and gold common room. The five Marauders sat in front of the fireplace, speaking to one another. Remus, Y/n, and Sirius sitting together on a couch. James on an armchair, and Peter sitting on the ground in front of the sofa.
“So, Little Lupin.“ James drawled, “When are you getting a boyfriend?”
Remus chuckled, quickly putting an arm around his twin sister, “Hopefully, never.”
“Maybe I already have a boyfriend, and you lot just don’t know.” Y/n snipped as she elbowed her brother in the ribs slightly, “Oh, come on, paws!” James exclaimed teasingly.
Paws was Y/n’s Marauder name. Her animagus was a Siamese cat, which resembled her personality quite well if you asked Remus. Y/n was quick-witted, independent, intuitive, curious, and affectionate when comfortable. She and Sirius were known to flirt all the time but recently - meaning a couple of months - they hadn’t done it at all. Perhaps Y/n was actually avoiding his flirtatious remarks. Nevertheless, Y/n’s animagus was a direct correlation with her personality.
“Yeah, paws, you’ve been neglecting me recently. I’m not too happy with it either.” Sirius added with a fake pout, “Oh hush it, you two. Leave my sister alone. She’s got no hidden boyfriend.” Remus defended, looking at his sister.
“Right, Y/n?” Remus coughed, and she jumped out of her daydream, “Mhm! Of course.”
Conversation went on as usual. They began discussing new pranks, but Y/n’s jumper pocket felt heavier than usual, knowing what’s inside. It was a cream-colored envelope with the Black family crest as a seal. Y/n knew more than anyone that Sirius wouldn’t be happy to see the familiar logo, but this wasn’t from his parents. It was from his little brother, and Y/n was anxious to give it to him. So when James, Remus, and Peter went upstairs, Y/n pulled him aside before he could leave.
“Padfoot, wait.” Y/n called, and he turned back, “What's up, paws?” Sirius queried, turning to face her.
She sighed and pulled the envelope from her pocket, “Please, read this. It isn’t what you think it is despite the seal.” Y/n stated, handing him the parchment.
“Where did you get this?” Sirius asked as he opened the packaging, “Regulus.” Y/n’s answer was firmer than expected.
Nonetheless, the letter inside seemed essential to his fellow Marauder, so he opened it. Inside he was met with his little brother's prominent handwriting. The black ink treaded so seamlessly across the brown paper. Y/n remembered watching him write it at his desk, desperately trying to collect his thoughts while his hand shook relentlessly. She couldn’t do anything but sit from his bed and watch. Regulus needed to do this alone.
After reading, Sirius slid the letter back inside its packaging, “Well, it’s his fault.”
“Actually, it isn’t.” Y/n quipped, “Listen, Sirius, Regulus is trying. He really is.”
“You would know this how?”
“Because we’ve been friends for a long time.”
“Oh really?” Sirius questioned sarcastically, crossing his arms, “Since when did you and Reggie become so close?”
“He began tutoring me in third year for Potions.” Y/n answered, “You couldn’t have asked Remus?”
“No. “ Y/n shook her head, “Slughorn wanted Regulus specifically.”
“Well then. Full moon tomorrow, hope you’re prepared.” Sirius chirped as he began walking up the steps to his dorm, “I’m always prepared.” Y/n replied to essentially no one.
She sighed. It was apparent Sirius didn’t want to believe what Regulus had written. It would’ve been hard on anyone. But Regulus wanted it to come from him instead of Sirius finding out. Since Y/n’s third year - Regulus’ second year - she felt attracted to him. He always made time for her. It wasn’t until their fourth year when she realized it. In her fifth year, they made it official. Regulus Black and Y/n Lupin were a couple but hidden beneath an invisibility cloak.
Seventh year wasn’t easy. The upcoming war, her brother's lycanthropy, N.E.W.T.S, and Regulus getting the dark mark. Nothing seemed to be working in her favor. Books didn’t even seem to please her anymore. Her eyes wandered while she began to daydream about anything rather than reality itself. People began to notice how lost the girl appeared.
Especially her brother.
Study sessions with her weren’t the same. Some days her eyes would appear glossier than usual as if someone put a coating of lip gloss over them. Maybe they were rimmed with a pastel pink seeming tired and unhappy. The tremors in her hands were hard to ignore as she wrote with her quill. If there’s one thing Remus Lupin was good at, it was being observant; however, there wasn’t time, and he didn’t have the patience to deal with this right now. The full moon approaching meant that Remus’ patience tolerance was down to about none.
There was one thing that brought her clarity. Regulus Black. The Gryffindor common room was always a warm and welcoming atmosphere. In contrast, the Slytherin common room was cold and damp, but it brought her comfort because of the person inside. Y/n padded quietly inside of his prefect hallway, which was beside the Slytherin common. She walked into his bedroom, which was dark.
No candles lit. Just dark. Regulus always felt comfort in the dark, but it wasn’t dark because of that. It was dark because he was absent. Y/n peered over to his desk, where letters sat from his mother and some cousins. Andromeda seemed to try and reach him, but the letter looked unopened. There was one that caught her eye. It was Remus’ handwriting, and it was from him. It was also opened. Y/n knew she couldn’t stay all night. The full moon was due to rise in just two hours.
Picking up the parchment, she began to read:
“ To Regulus Black,
You need to step up. I get it. Sirius has been disowned, but he tries to make an effort. Can’t you see that? Sirius really needs you, and I know that you miss him too. This whole stubborn game of not wanting to talk to each other has gone on long enough.
I know what it’s like to argue with a sibling, and it isn’t pleasant. Suck it up, swallow your pride and talk to Sirius. You don’t have to ultimately make up, but please, he’s trying.
From, Remus Lupin. “
Y/n swallowed down her anger. Who was Remus to get involved in their affairs? If Sirius and Regulus didn’t want to interact, that was their problem, not his. It infuriated her. But she didn’t have time to babble around. Y/n pointed her wand at her and became a cat. Perks of her animagus being allowed at Hogwarts, she could roam around freely without suspicion. Quickly she sprinted down to the Whomping Willow, where she was met with her three Marauders in human form. Y/n transformed back.
“Where were you! I was worried sick!” Remus scolded, “Nowhere, but we need to talk later.” Y/n answered.
They got Remus in the shack and changed into their animagus forms. A stag, a rat, a dog, and a cat. The dog and the cat had the most interaction with the werewolf. Sometimes the dog and werewolf would cuddle up beside each other, whereas the cat would sleep on its own along with the other two animals. The following day Y/n and Sirius lugged Remus up to the hospital wing. Y/n sat beside him the entire time while the other three went off. Sirius and James were off to Quidditch practice. Peter was off to see his girlfriend in Hufflepuff.
Y/n tapped aimlessly on Remus’ hand, “M- Morning.”
“Morning, Moony.” Y/n greeted, “How are you feeling?”
“Phenomenal.”
“Sorry.”
“What did we need to talk about?” Remus questioned, and Y/n tilted her head, “You said we needed to talk before going to the shack.”
“Yes, I did. Um- uh- did you send Regulus a letter by any chance?” Y/n stammered, “I did. Why?”
“I saw it.” Y/n replied shortly, “You saw it?” Remus repeated incredulously.
She nodded, “How did you see it?”
“Regulus and I are friends. Sometimes we hang out in his dorm.” The words seemed like nothing as they rolled off her tongue, “You hang out in the Slytherin dorms? Is that why you always know the password so we can do pranks?”
“Of course.” Y/n chuckled, “I use my privilege to its advantage.”
Remus began to get up but grimaced, causing Y/n to jump up to help him. Gently she eased him to a sitting position. A new scratch on his cheek and multiple on his arms. It’s evident that the cat and the dog had to stop him. The thin scratches on his arms were a cat's nails. The thicker scratch on his cheek was a dog's nails. Remus looked down at his arms.
“I’m sorry.” Y/n muttered, “Not your fault, paws. Who was it this time?” Remus asked.
“Prongs. Apparently, you wanted Prongs.” Y/n answered, and he kissed the top of her head, “Thank you for stopping me.”
“Anything for my brother.”
“Just like anything for our Moony?”
Y/n laughed, “Yeah.”
Paws began to tap on his hand again, until a voice echoed through the hospital wing, “Y/n?”
“Y/n?” The voice called again, and Remus quirked his eyebrow at his sheepish sister, “Y/n!”
Suddenly a black-haired, grey-eyed, pale figure was beside her. He didn’t realize what he was doing until he had already kissed the top of her head worriedly. Y/n turned pink at the affection and the embarrassment of it happening in front of her brother. Remus coughed, and the male stood straight.
“Regulus, what a surprise.” Remus retorted, “Didn’t think you’d ever visit me in the infirmary.”
“Remus, please-“
“I wouldn’t.” Regulus snapped, “Then why are you here?” Remus inquired.
Regulus’ hand was playing aimlessly with the ends of Y/n’s hair, “Moony….” Y/n began at a whisper, “Regulus is my boyfriend.”
“This-“ Remus pointed at them both with a laughing smile, “Is funny.”
“Nice prank, paws, but it isn’t going to work.”
Y/n sighed, “It isn’t a prank, Rem.”
“We’ve been together for about two years now.” She confessed, and Regulus stiffened, “Friends, my ass.” Remus scoffed bitterly.
“Remus, please-“ Y/n began, “No, please just leave. We can talk about this later when I’m in the right frame of mind. Because if you don’t leave, now I might throw a punch.” Remus replied.
She sighed and reluctantly left with Regulus trailing behind her. Y/n didn’t want to cry. It was pitiful. Regulus never had a good relationship with Sirius since Hogwarts, yet he didn’t seem to care. Thankfully, after building the Marauders Map, she knew every little crevice and hiding spot. Pulling back a tapestry, she sat down on the cement floor. Regulus doing the same beside her. Hesitantly he pulled his arm around her shoulders, pulling her into his chest.
“This is pitiful.” Y/n chuckled bitterly, “I’m sorry, Reggie.”
“It isn’t pitiful. You and Remus have a close relationship. It’s okay to be sad about him telling you off.” Regulus replied, placing his chin on the top of her head, “Sirius and I are different. Don’t compare you and Remus with us.”
Y/n nuzzled into his chest, “I saw the letter Remus sent you.”
“I- I saw the way he spoke to you, and I’m sorry.” Y/n stated, “I hope he comes around.”
“I do too, love.” Regulus kissed the top of her head, “ I do too.”
It was quiet for a moment until two figures pulled back the tapestry, “Oi! Get off, little Lupin!” James exclaimed, and Y/n sighed, “Sirius, James, please just leave.”
“What are you doing with my mate's little sister, Regulus?” Sirius interrogated, “Comforting her. She needs me.” Regulus retorted, tightening his grip on her shoulder.
Y/n stood up and pulled Regulus with her, “Come on. We four need to talk.”
The four of them walked into a broom closet. It was a quiet walk. Eerily quiet. It brought shivers down Y/n’s spine at how silent the walk was. The tension was so thick you couldn’t cut it with a knife. The pressure felt like sludge. It was thick and mush. But when Y/n opened the door, the lot of them walked inside. James and Sirius stared expectantly.
“Regulus and I have been dating since my fifth year.” Y/n began, and Regulus intertwined their hands.
“Little Lupin!” Sirius exclaimed, “You weren’t lying when you said you had a secret boyfriend!”
“You scandalous little thing!”
“I can’t believe this.” James stated after running his hand through his hair, “How did Remus take it?”
“Not very well.” Y/n replied, “He kicked me out of the hospital wing when Regulus showed up. “
“He’s- He’s not in the right mindset, though. He’ll come to. I know he will. He has to.”
Sirius’ eyes softened, “Moony will come around. It might just take him a minute.”
“Regulus.” James called, and grey eyes stared at him, “Y/n is a Marauder.”
“I know that.” Regulus interrupted, “She is my little sister as much as she is Remus’” James continued.
“And mine!” Sirius added, smiling brightly, “Y/n is our little sister. The lot of us depend on her. We can’t, and we won’t have her heartbroken.” James explained sternly, suddenly looking a lot like Mrs. Potter.
Regulus’ cheeks flushed with pink, “I love her, I really do. I don’t plan on breaking her heart anytime soon.”
“You’re gonna be my sister-in-law!” Sirius squealed, hugging Y/n forcefully, almost knocking her over, “Oh, little Lupin.” He cooed.
“You’re all grown up!”
They laughed, and Sirius kissed her forehead, “Take care of him, will you?” He whispered so only she could hear, “Of course.” Y/n smiled.
“Alright, alright, I’d like my girlfriend back,” Regulus replied, taking her away from Sirius’ arms.
Sirius gulped, “How’s mum going to take this, Reggie?”
“I don’t care.” Regulus retorted, “Mums gonna have to deal with it.”
The smile on Sirius’ face was brighter than the sun, “Oh, Reggie!” He wailed, pulling Regulus into a tight hug.
The two brothers smiled as they hugged each other. Regulus sleeve slipped up, and James stepped back, pulling out his wand. The two Black brothers pulled apart, and that’s when Sirius saw it. The dark mark on his brother's sleeve. Y/n stiffened as Sirius lifted his sleeve up further to see it clearly.
“Reggie…”
“Sirius, please, I didn’t want it.” Regulus pleaded, “She- They- Please.”
James watched intently at them. Sirius’ eyes had filled with tears as he embraced his younger brother. For the first time in a long time, Regulus felt protected in his brother's arms. James walked closer and joined them. Hugging both Black brothers as close as he could. James Potter, the man who never stops giving. They pulled apart, and James took Reggie into his own arms.
“You need anything, you come to me, okay?” James informed sternly, and Regulus nodded, “Ye- Yeah.”
“Remus and Y/n always come for the holidays. You won’t be alone.” James stated smiling, “My parents already have one Black; they won’t mind another.”
The Black brother smiled, “Thank you….”
The days went on, and Regulus still avoided the Marauders altogether. Remus glared at him from the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall. Deep emerald green eyes were flashing at the grey ones that sat at the Slytherin table. Until Y/n jabbed him in the ribs, taking his attention away from the younger Black brother.
“Remus.” Y/n scolded, “Stop it.”
“I think you’re too hard on him, Moony.” James began, “He loves your sister. Maybe talk to him.”
“No.” Remus snapped, “You guys can accept this, but I can’t.”
They didn’t push any further. Y/n and Remus had been distant from each other. It was weird to watch the twins who were typically attached at the hip to be so - abroad. Regulus didn’t like that he was now the cause of their fussing. After all, they were the reason Sirius and him were on speaking terms now. So Regulus and Sirius made a plan. It involved them being locked in a broom closet, and so it happened—one night after dinner.
Remus was shoved into a cupboard, not by his own liking either, “Come on, Sirius! This isn’t funny. I have prefect duties to do!”
“Actually, someone else has taken them over.” Regulus informed, and Remus whipped around, “What are you two doing here?”
“Remus, explain it to me.” Regulus began, “Why you don’t approve of me with your sister.”
“Because! You’re a bloody death eater! You probably forced her to be with you.” Remus exclaimed.
Y/n scoffed, “A pureblood forcing himself with a half-breed? Doesn’t seem likely.”
Remus ran his hand through his hair, “Okay, he’s still a death eater!”
“I was forced!” Regulus exclaimed, “They strapped me to a chair and embedded the mark into my forearm. You don’t think I wasn’t thinking of her the entire time?! I was scared out of my mind!”
“The entire time, all I could think about was ‘How is Y/n gonna take this.’” Regulus admitted, “My heart aches for her. I didn’t want her to be scared.”
Remus’ green eyes turned soft, “Does she accept you? Does she love you? Do you love her?”
“Yes, Remus. I love him for who he is. James offered him a place to stay at the Potters.” Y/n replied, “And yes, I love her.”
Tears filled her eyes, “Remus, please. I don’t want to lose either of you.”
Remus held out his arms, and she walked right into them. He placed one hand on the back of her head and one on the small of her waist. Holding her close to his heart, rubbing his thumb through her hair. Regulus’ grey eyes stared at the two siblings before him. Remus’ heart softened at his crying sister. He never wanted to hurt her, ever.
“Paws.” Remus began as he pulled away slightly, “Does he make you happy?”
Y/n sniffled and nodded; Remus wiped her cheeks, “Okay.”
“Does he know you, for you?”
“Mhm.”
Remus turned to Regulus as Y/n parted with him, “Where’s paws favorite place to be scratched?”
Regulus chuckled, “Behind her ears.”
“Take care of my little sister.” Remus pleaded, “Please, Regulus.”
“Of course. I wouldn’t expect any different.” Regulus answered.
Remus walked forward and put out his hand. Hesitantly Regulus shook his hand. Grey eyes met green ones. Remus couldn’t help the smile that placed itself on his face. Without hesitation, he pulled Regulus into a tight hug.
“Take care of my sister, and I’ll take care of you.”
“Always.”

HE NEEDED SOMEBODY AND THEY ALL LEFT HIM ALONE I WAS SOBBING
Hello lovely! I apologise in advance, because I'm totally highjacking your ask to go on a larger rant (or ramble...rant is maybe too angry).
I've been finding that people really want there to be a good guy and a bad guy in every situation and, if it isn't clear by now, I don't really think that's how most things work. One of the reasons that this story is told from multiple POVS is that I'm a big fan of Einstein's Theory of Relativity: Everyone has their own frame of reference and everyone is experiencing everything relative to that frame of reference (this is obviously exactly how Einstein's theory of relativity works you don't need to look it up I am a highly qualified theoretical physicist)
SO, James is not abandoned by anyone. Not even Lily, who kinda would be justified in abandoning James if she wanted to. But she doesn't. She comforts him and takes care of him through his panic attack after finding out that Regulus is dead, puts him to bed, tells him to eat when he gets up, and tells him to call someone when she leaves. A whole day later, she makes sure to ask someone to go and check on him because she wants to make sure he isn't alone. That is not what abandonment looks like. Sirius is more complicated, but if we go back to the idea that we're all operating from our own frames of reference, as far as Sirius knows, James is over Regulus. He hasn't talked to him or about him for basically three years at this point, triple the time they were together. He's also with someone else - having a baby with someone else. So while he knows that James will be upset, which is why he contacts him, he has no way of knowing how upset James will be. Which is both James and Sirius's fault - James has purposefully withheld information from Sirius, Sirius hasn't made himself particularly easy to talk to about this subject. When Sirius tells James, James hides his reaction the best he can and tells Sirius to be with his family. It is not Sirius's fault that he doesn't realize in that moment how hard James is taking the news. Or that he doesn't realize it will lead to Lily leaving and James being alone. Additionally, Sirius is also dealing with his own grief. Which, while it might be different from James's, is not lesser, nor less important. And two days later he shows up on James's doorstep as is his habit so, he doesn't stay away for long. Frank.
I swear if I see one more person say "Frank was only there because he was asked" I will break something. Back, once again, to frames of reference, until Frank talks to Lily and Mary he has no idea anything has happened (why would he? why do people think he should have known that something happened?) Yes, Lily asks him to check on James, but he would have gone anyway after finding out James was in a bad place. But he didn't know - not about Lily leaving and not about Regulus dying and not about Regulus and James. The minute Frank is made aware there is something to show up for he shows up. James could have contacted him himself but he didn't. Because he's afraid of what Frank will think. James doesn't ask for help. His self sacrificing instincts isolate him. No one purposefully leaves him alone. Now, for the other side of this. The "James is a horrible human being who deserves no sympathy" side of this. It has become clear to me that my feelings around "infidelity" are not necessarily the same as everyone else's. Which is cool. Again, frames of reference. But here's what I will say: James does not have an affair. He never purposefully seeks Regulus out, the two situations he is in with him are out of his control, he's not purposefully betraying Lily. He crosses boundaries with Regulus absolutely. But it's not premeditated. And when things escalate he stops them and says "this is wrong I don't want to do this this way" which matters to me. He also is honest with Lily about it, it takes him a while, but he could have kept lying to her and he doesn't. And that also matters to me. Quite frankly, if the worst thing you ever do in your life is kiss the wrong person at the wrong time, you're doing ok. So I think some of you are being a bit harsh. But again. That is me speaking from my own frame of reference. In any case. James is not perfect. Neither are the people around him. But I do not think James is the bad guy here. Nor do I think Lily or Sirius are the bad guys. Like Frank says, you can fuck up and hurt people and not be a complete write off as a human being. Because the truth is, at some point, all human beings fuck up and hurt people.

.:Time And Time Again:. (Marauders Era x Reader) Ch 1
Old habits die hard— and so do feelings, apparently. Relive moments high and low from your life with the Marauders and co. as you tell your godson, Harry, about all the mischief you got up to back in your school days. Takes place mainly in the Marauders era but also has content congruent with the Order of the Phoenix timeline, with some cannon divergence, of course~
- Main pairings: Sirius Black x Reader, Severus Snape x Reader, James Potter x Reader, Remus Lupin x Reader, slight Regulus Black x Reader, and a bunch of friendships! Gender neutral pronouns :)

Ch 1 .:Memories And First Meetings:.
12 Grimmauld Place was cold.
Not in the temperature sense of the word, especially in the heat of London summer, but something about it felt distant. Perhaps it was the cookie cutter exterior, dreadfully drab, although you knew its true nature was anything but. Despite its grandeur, the interior was as ornate as it was dull and unsaturated, like a black and white photograph in all its monochromatic glory. Maybe it was the fact that you knew what had happened here in the past, or the fact that you knew who was waiting here for you in the present.
You felt the strange sensation of stepping through the thick blanket of protection charms surrounding the house, as if your body were moving through molasses for a fraction of a second. The moment you were fully inside, you began to hear the hushed bits of a conversation echoing through the entrance hall from the dining room whose door was slightly ajar. The words became clearer as you neared the door.
“Harry's not ready! Have you gone completely mad?”
You found yourself grinning at the first voice, Molly Weasley's stern tone unmistakable.
“He's not a child, Molly.”
You froze as you heard the second one; you'd know it anywhere.
A heavy wave of emotion surged through you as you got near enough to the entrance to see the face of Sirius Black through the gap in the door. His time in Azkaban had taken a toll on him, you could tell. Heavy bags hung from his face, his cheeks hollow; although his gray eyes still held that spark in them. His hair was longer, somehow even more wild and unruly than before, but it suited him.
“Well he's not an adult either! He's not James.”
You caught a flash of ginger as Molly crossed the room, using her wand to aggressively clear away the plates on the table as she made her point.
“I know he isn't, but he can handle himself,” Sirius said, “and I'll be there to protect him.”
“How touching, Black. Perhaps the boy will grow up to be a felon just like his godfather.”
Your stomach dropped at the third voice. Shit.
Your presence remained unannounced, but as you peaked your head around the corner of the door frame you were met with Severus' stoic face, an imperceptible crease of distaste in his brow as he regarded Sirius. As your view widened you saw that Lupin sat to his left, a human wall between the two former foes.
You stilled at the door, taking a deep breath in an attempt to settle your irrationally rioting nerves. It's not as if you didn't know they would be there, but it had been so long since you'd seen any of them. So much has changed. . .
“You stay out of this, Snivelus. I don't care what Dumbledore has to say about your supposed reformation, but I know better.”
“Don't you have to go play fetch elsewhere?”
“Oh come on, you two,” Remus sighed.
Well, maybe not much has changed after all.
“Still resorting to playground bickering, are we?”
Several heads snapped in your direction at your words, and you were met with various reactions. Molly's face immediately split into a smile and she rushed around to table to greet you.
“(Y/n), dear! So nice to see you again,” she pulled you into a surprisingly strong hug and you couldn't help but join in her laughter.
“It's good to be back,” you admitted, “Charlie says hello, by the way.”
“Oh, I'm going to give give that boy a talking to,” Molly huffed, “you aren't his owl, dear. The least he could do is write home and say so himself.”
“Romanian mountain ranges keep a wizard busy,” you grinned, “He says he tries to keep in touch.”
“Sending home a bag of petrified dragon scales with a note that says 'look at this!!' is hardly keeping in touch,” she retorted, fussing about with your jacket's collar that had become wrinkled from her embrace.
Even from across the table you could feel Sirius' eyes on you, grateful that you had Molly's whirlwind greeting as a scapegoat for your flushed face.
“(Y/n). . .” he said softly, getting up from his seat.
“Hey,” you smiled, fighting the lump in your throat as he wrapped his arms around you. He was so warm, still wearing that damn leather jacket he'd somehow been reunited with after his imprisonment.
“What are you doing here? They told me you were out working in America,” Sirius said, eyes twinkling as he held you at arm's length.
“Well, I suppose I'm sort of working everywhere these days,” you said. As his words registered in your brain you turned to Molly with narrowed eyes. “You didn't tell him I was coming?”
“I thought it would be a nice surprise,” she said coyly.
You shook your head, turning back to Sirius.
“I'm so sorry, Molly said I could stay here so I thought she already ran it by you—”
“No, no, of course you can stay!” he said enthusiastically, “I'm glad you're here.”
He seemed gentler than he was before, certainly more mellow than in his youth, but that energy that was so quintessentially him remained buzzing beneath his skin, and Merlin, you'd missed it.
After realizing how long the two of you had spent practically holding each other you coughed awkwardly, slowly drifting apart. As you looked around the table your eyes caught Severus' and you thought your heart stopped for a moment. To the untrained eye he probably seemed just as uninterested as ever, but the look of shock in his eyes was so blatantly apparent to you that it threw you off guard. You managed to cast a small smile in his direction, but his expression remained unchanged while yours dropped. You felt your stomach twist up in knots as you thought about what had happened the last time you saw each other.
Lupin looked between the pair of you before getting up from his own seat and coming to your rescue. He extended his arms with a kind smile, and you happily shifted your attention to him.
“It's about time London had its best auror back in town,” he said.
“Flattery will get you nowhere, Moony,” you said playfully, hugging him tight, “It's good to see you too.”
“Are you hungry?” Molly asked, pulling a chair out for you.
“Oh no, I had something on the way here,” you said, taking a seat, “thank you, though.”
It felt surreal to be back here, where it all started. The faces were different—some new, some missing—but the same determined feeling remained.
“Now, where were we,” Sirius said, his confidence returning to his shoulders as he addressed the table.
“We were just talking about how Harry isn't ready to be tangled up in all this,” Molly said sternly.
“I think he should decide that for himself,” Sirius said adamantly.
“Well of course the boy would say he wants to fight, he's—”
“Listening in right now,” you pointed out, jutting your head in the direction of the open door where Harry stood, half obscured by the shadow of the stairway.
The boy flushed, backing away slightly as he was caught. But his eyes lit up as they landed on you, and you felt a tug at your heart as you saw your best friend in their bright green hues.
“(Y/n), you're back,” he said in disbelief.
“And here to stay for a bit, apparently,” you said with a smile.
Molly looked between the two of you before letting out a sigh.
“You know what, we should stop for the night anyways,” she said with a wave of her hand, “We've kept the children up long enough with our chatter, and (Y/n) ought to get some rest as well. Off to bed, the lot of you.”
Some of the other adults exchanged some knowing smiles as she shooed them out of the room. People slowly trickled out through the doorway, goodbyes exchanged, and before long it was just you and your godson left.
You had been lucky enough to meet Harry at the end of his third year, and he'd broken the news about Sirius' innocence to you. You so badly wanted to be there for Harry sooner, but between your strained relationship with the Ministry and cleaning up the mess with MACUSA in the States, you always seemed to be called away from the boy. You wanted nothing more than to take him away from that horrid house—you knew how nasty Petunia could be firsthand. Nonetheless, he seemed to be doing well, and you were happy that you'd grown closer over the last few years even if you couldn't be there in person all the time.
“I've got another little souvenir for you, by the way,” you said, having migrated to the living room.
Harry seemed to perk up at that. Since your visits had been so sparse, you began to make it a tradition to bring him back something magical from whatever part of the world you'd been working in.
“You mentioned you were struggling in Potions the last time we spoke,” you said, rummaging through your bag, eventually producing a small, gold-rimmed vial full of a deep maroon liquid. Small black clouds seemed to tumble in a miniature cyclone inside the glass.
“Dragon's breath essence,” you grinned, “nicked it off of Charlie before I left Romania. Put a few drops of this in your salamander blood the next time you brew a Wiggenweld potion and you're set to pass with flying colors.”
“Brilliant!” Harry said, eyes wide, “that's on our O.W.L.S. this year.”
“I know,” you said cheekily, “you didn't hear it from me. Personally, I think an Outstanding in Potions as a requirement to become an auror is utter rubbish. Don't get me wrong, it's important to know your way around a cauldron, but to hold someone back who excels at Defense Against the Dark Arts and Charms just because they can't cook up a sleeping draught? I don't know, it doesn't sit right with me. And I've heard Severus is hard enough on you guys as it is.”
Harry seemed surprised at your casual address of his professor but shook it off quickly.
“But you're ace at Potions, and it seems like you really like it,” he said.
“Yeah, well I—” you faltered a bit, “I learned from the best. . .”
“Professor Slughorn, you mean?” Harry questioned.
Your eyes widened at that.
“Yeah,” you lied, recovering fast, “Well, Slughorn was a great teacher but terrible at throwing parties. He had this thing called the Slug Club and the dinners were just awful. Your mother was the first of us to join and she ended up roping me into it, and before we knew it we were all standing around in these ridiculous outfits taking swigs of the firewhiskey your dad snuck in just to get through the night.”
You smiled fondly at the memory, and you could see Harry living vicariously through the emotions on your face. You were grateful for this moment; this was the longest you'd actually gotten to sit down and talk together in a long time.
“Were you always friends?” Harry asked, “with my parents, I mean.”
You had to laugh at that question.
“With your mum, yes. Your father, well, not exactly. . .”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~   1971    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your body swayed gently with the movement of the Hogwarts Express as you walked up and down the isles, looking for someplace to sit. Most of the carriages were packed tight with large groups made up of upperclassmen not exactly looking to expand their circle.
As you approached the back of the train a mostly empty car caught your eye, occupied only by two children your age, or at least that's what you guessed from their black ties and basic robes that marked them as unsorted first-years like yourself.
One of them was a brooding looking boy with messy, shoulder length black hair and shockingly pale skin, leaning against the wall of the train and halfway through a book that seemed well beyond his years. Sitting across from him was a pretty red-headed girl who was admiring the rapidly passing scenery through the window.
“Excuse me, do you mind if I sit with you?” you asked, sliding the screen door open.
The boy's brow furrowed, clearly about refuse when the young girl beat him to it.
“Of course not!” she beamed, her smile infectious. You didn't miss the sharp look she shot over to the boy who simply rolled his eyes in response. After you muttered a small 'thanks' she scooted over closer to the window so you could sit next to her.
“My name is Lily,” she said, extending a hand, “Lily Evans.”
“Nice to meet you,” you smiled, “I'm (Y/n) (L/n).”
The boy quirked a brow at your last name, his expression shifting to something unreadable as he blatantly studied you over the spine of his book. After letting this go on for some time, you glanced over at Lily.
“Does he speak?”
“Perfectly well, thank you,” the boy said coldly.
Lily sent a disappointed look his way and his heart fell slightly, but he didn't need to be friends with anyone else, and he certainly didn't want other people becoming friends with Lily either. An irrational thought, he knew, but it was how his stubborn little brain worked at the time. They didn't need anyone but each other. Wasn't that enough?
In any case, he expected his behavior would be enough to scare you off (it usually worked on other people), but to his complete and utter surprise, you began to laugh. It started off as a light giggle, soon growing into full on laughter. He stared at you in open confusion as you were nearly brought to tears from your fit.
“You're funny,” you stated honestly, managing to speak through your chortles.
The boy was taken completely aback by your candor, actually at a loss for words. Lily joined in the laughter at your simple remark.
“So you do talk, I guess you must have a name too, then,” you said teasingly.
He blinked once. Twice.
“. . . Severus Snape.”
“That's a cool name.”
The heat that crept onto the boy's face surprised no one more than himself, and he buried himself in his book quickly to hide it. Another surprisingly frank statement from you, and not one he'd ever heard before.
If he thought you were full of surprises then, he had no idea what was coming to him.
_____________________________________________________________
The minute the Sorting Hat was placed on your head, it was immediately intrigued.
“Now here's an odd one,” it chuckled, “loyal, compassionate, empathetic, and yet a razor wit. A calculating, ambitious mind, and yet a relentless sense of adventure. All this, and with your bloodline to take into account as well. Your family has quite the history here, (L/n).”
Hushed whispers fell across the Great Hall among the older students and even some of the faculty at the hat's words, and you shifted uncomfortably in your seat.
“Though, I sense a different sort of mentality in you,” the hat continued, “you desire to challenge the old ways,” it paused for some time before going on, “do you truly have no preference, child?”
You were surprised at the question. You knew your family's reputation— it had been ingrained in you from a young age— but that didn't sway you, nor did it scare you. When you really thought about what house you wanted to be in, you truly couldn't think of an answer. It wouldn't change who you were, after all. Whether you donned red, yellow, blue, or green, you stood firmly in the knowledge that you would always be (Y/n) (L/n). Having made up your mind, you shook your head at the hat's question, and although its face was obscured from your view, you could almost sense its grin as it knew you were telling the truth.
“Well then,” it chuckled, “It is truly rare that I get an opportunity such as this. Let's make it interesting, then, shall we? Better be. . . Slytherin!”
Snape sat, slack-jawed, as you bounded over to the applauding Slytherin table and plopped down next to him. You rested your chin atop your folded hands, looking largely unbothered, a glint in your (e/c) eyes. He chuckled under his breath despite himself.
Full of surprises indeed.
___________________________________________________________
Your first encounter with James Potter was of a different sort.
It was the very beginning of your third year when you'd first met him properly. You had a few classes together, and Lily would rant about him constantly pestering her; occasionally you'd see the Gryffindor, along with another unfamiliar boy in his house, sprinting through the corridors, Professor McGonagall not far behind and demanding them to stop. But other than that, you'd never really interacted with him.
Ever since you'd met on the train you and Lily started to hang out more and more, with Snape “begrudgingly” tagging along. The Slytherin had been slow to warm up to you, but you were relentlessly kind and infuriatingly persistent, and eventually he found himself enjoying your little quips and comparatively sunny disposition. By the end of your first year, the three of you were nearly inseparable, and your bond only strengthened throughout your second. But third year is when things started changing.
Snape sat in the shade among the thick, overgrown roots of the old oak tree by the Black Lake, nose deep in an advanced Potions textbook he'd swiped from a fifth year as he waited for you and Lily to return from Transfiguration, the only class you didn't have together. This became your usual spot, with Lily sitting in the grass beside him and you on the branch above him, legs swinging as you absentmindedly sketched in your notebook. A comfortable silence would settle between you, something you'd all grown to enjoy; there was no need for constant conversation, it was enough sometimes to just enjoy each others' presence.
The silence he was reveling in alone, however, was promptly interrupted as rowdy laughter reached Snape's ears. Sure enough, a few figures emerged from the curve of the hill, revealing none other than James Potter, flanked by the curly haired boy he'd been seen running around with earlier along with two other Gryffindors: a short-statured boy with dirty blonde hair and another, taller and leaner, with long scars that ran along his face.
Snape didn't pay them much mind until he realized that they were heading straight for the tree— straight for him. Snape had noticed right away how the Potter boy had tried to befriend Lily as soon as she was sorted into Gryffindor, and it was safe to say he was less than fond of him despite having never really spoken to him before.
“You've got to be joking,” James snickered as he walked up to the tree, looking Snape up and down, “This is the guy Evans has been ditching us to see?”
Severus' eyes narrowed. So now he had a reason not to like him.
“Get lost,” he said, turning back to his book.
“What, you think you're too good to talk to us, huh?” James scoffed at him, clearly miffed.
As if on cue, the curly haired boy snatched the book out of Snape's hands, holding it out of his reach as he fumbled to get it back.
“Toss it, Sirius!” James called out. The boy, who he now knew as Sirius, threw the textbook like a frisbee, and Potter caught it easily.
As Snape angrily rose from his seat to get it back, the two boys continued to throw it between themselves so he couldn't grab it. Fed up, the Slytherin drew his wand but was quickly outmatched.
“Expelliarmus!”
Snape's wand flew out of his hands and straight into Sirius', who held it above his head. Just as the black haired boy jumped up for it, another spell flew towards him, this time from James.
“Winguardium Leviosa!”
Snape grit his teeth, staring helplessly at his wand as it hovered higher and higher out of his reach.
“James, come on, I think that's enough,” the taller boy near the back said.
“Don't be a bore, Remus, we're just having some fun.”
“I-I think he's right, guys.”
“Shut up, Peter.”
While his gaze was trained on his wand a harsh shove threw Snape to the ground, tears of frustration welling up in his eyes.
“No way, is he really crying?” James taunted.
“He is,” Sirius goaded on, “just look at him snivel.”
“You're right, maybe we should call him Snivelus, it suits him better.”
“Nice one, James.”
Snape winced as he was harshly pulled to his feet by James who sneered at him.
“Come on then, Snivelous. What are you gonna do?”
“Relashio!”
James' eyes widened as he suddenly felt himself repulsed back by some invisible force, his grip on Snape's robes forced to loosen as he was flung backwards. You stared the shocked Gryffindors down, wand at the ready for another spell as you ran to stand between Severus and them.
“Accio!” another voice called out, Snape's book and wand whizzing past their faces and into Lily's hands.
James staggered to his feet, trying to look unbothered by the fact that he'd just been knocked down, and by a spell that he hadn't even heard of yet.
“Look at that, boys,” he said, feigning confidence, “guess Snivelus needs a couple of girls to come to his rescue. You should ditch this loser, Evans.”
Before Lily could lash back, you stepped between them.
“What's that supposed to mean?” you scoffed.
“I'm sorry, who are you?”
You felt your forehead twitch, itching to smack that smug grin off his face.
It was Sirius who spoke next, recognition filling his gaze.
“Wait, you're the (L/n) kid, aren't you? Well that's just perfect, you two freaks can go study the Unforgivable Curses together.”
That struck a nerve in you.
“You don't know anything,” you said, not lowering your wand, “now get out of here before I knock you down too.”
“Aw, I don't know, Sirius, they're kind of cute all flustered like this,” James smirked.
You felt anger flare up in your chest, and it was Lily's turn to step in for you.
“Leave us alone, James,” she ordered.
When none of them moved you exhaled sharply, taking another step forward.
“Or I can just turn you into a flobberworm instead,” you said, “might be more fitting.”
Sirius laughed off your threat, but you could have sworn you saw a twinge of concern in his eyes as he looked over to the rest of his friends for backup.
“Let's just go, James. Come on,” the one named Remus said, trying to be the voice of reason.
The bespectacled boy frowned, shoving his wand back in his robes.
“Fine,” he said, “they aren't worth it anyways.”
He turned promptly on his heels, Sirius right behind him and Peter scampering after. Remus stayed behind for a moment, regarding you three.
“I'm sorry about them,” he said, “really.”
Your brow creased in suspicion, but you nodded, not quite smiling but offering up a neutral expression at least before he turned to catch up with the rest of his group.
“You were kidding about (L/n) being cute, right?” Sirius said as they headed back to the common room. When he was met with silence instead of a clear 'of course I was' he nearly had a stroke.
“Are you kidding, James?” Sirius said incredulously, “They're a Slytherin! They're just another dark arts dabbler who doesn't care about anything but their blood status.”
James only shrugged.
“Normally I'd agree, but they seem different,” he said. When he turned to see Sirius' unwavering expression he sighed, “I was just saying that to get a rise out of 'em. Don't worry, this won't be the last time we mess with them and Snivelus.”
Meanwhile, you were still out sitting by the tree, brushing the grass out of Severus' hair.
“That was amazing, (Y/n),” Lily said, wide-eyed, “How did you manage to learn that spell? And you already learned the worm-morphing jinx too?”
“Sev isn't the only one who's been learning ahead,” you said, “but that worm thing was a total bluff.”
“I didn't need your help,” Snape muttered.
You blinked down at him, shaking your head and unable to fight the smirk that crept onto your face.
“Sure you didn't,” you huffed, helping him up to his feet despite his protests, “don't be so dramatic, we won't tell anyone if that's what you're so worried about. Now come on, we're gonna be late for dinner. If Wilkes hogs all the Yorkshire puddings I'm blaming you entirely.”
Severus said nothing, only taking his book and wand back from Lily before you three walked back to the castle arm in arm, the smallest hint of a smile playing on his lips.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“It seems like so long ago,” you said, reminiscing, “Although I suppose it was, but I don't want to think about that too hard— I'll start to feel old, Merlin forbid.”
Harry's eyes were full of disbelief at your story.
“So you, my mum, and. . . Snape were friends?”
“Believe it or not,” you grinned, “unlikely trio as we were, it just sort of worked somehow.”
Until it didn't, you thought grimly, but forced the thought aside. You could tell by how quiet Harry had gotten that something was bothering him.
“My dad really did that?” he asked quietly.
Your gaze softened and you turned to fully face him.
“He was dumb and immature at the time,” you said, “we all were. There's not much else to be when you're thirteen. Each of us made plenty of mistakes, too many to count. And your mum. . . she was good for him. He always told me that she made him want to be a better person. People can change. In my opinion, there are few things someone can do that makes them truly irredeemable, and your father never came close to doing any of those things.”
You thought it better to mention that Snape probably didn't feel the same way.
“In any case, we should be getting to bed,” you said, getting up from the couch, “if you ever want to hear any other stories about your parents, I've got plenty of them.”
“Yeah,” Harry said, smile brightening his whole face, “yeah, definitely. Thank you.”
As Harry walked off to his room you sighed, making your way as quietly as you could up the creaky stairs. Just as you were about to retreat into your own guest room, your eyes snagged on the slightly ajar door at the top of the stairwell.
You stalled in front of it for a moment, wondering if you were out of your mind or not. When you had unapologetically settled on 'yes', you moved to knock on the door when it suddenly swung open. You practically leaped back at the proximity as you were met with Sirius standing in the doorway, stormy eyes wide. He'd shed his leather jacket for the night, leaving him in a dark maroon button up with the top few undone. Your senses were draped with the heady scent of his cologne, and you found yourself grasping at words to say.
When Sirius got over his initial shock he laughed sheepishly, running a hand through his curls out of habit.
“I was about to see if you were awake,” he admitted with a small grin, “Seems we both had the same idea.”

Between Fifth and You

~
chapter one
“Olives or twist?”
Sirius had to watch the barkeep’s mouth to make out the words beneath the pounding music, which meant Sirius caught the way his eyes skittered across his face almost fearfully. The sheer amount of obsidian in this place probably did nothing to lighten his features. Not to mention, few people knew how to look him in the eye.
“Twist,” he said.
The man nodded and flipped the bottle of gin until it dipped into a shot glass, the glass into the ice. Sirius watched until he was stirring the bitters in and a hand appeared on his shoulder, lips to his neck.
“Burn this,” Saint said, and plucked at Sirius’ shirt sleeve, rubbing the black material between his fingers. Sirius raised an eyebrow as he turned. Saint’s own shirt was unbuttoned half way down his hard chest, light brown skin warm in the flashing club lights. “You’ve worn it too many times.”
“Hello to you, too,” Sirius said. “I like this shirt.”
“I liked it two months ago,” Saint replied. “It’s September now, your highness.”
Sirius scoffed as the bartender slid him his drink.
“You gonna tell everyone the sun did that?” Sirius took a clean sip of gin with one hand and stroked his other through Saint’s gold curls, only suddenly some of the slightly course strands were almost white.
Saint’s grin turned coy. “Isn’t it nice to have a mystery to think about?”
“Oh, yeah, do blonds have more fun?”
“You wouldn’t know.”
The music kicked up a beat that Sirius felt through his spine.
“Why do we always come here?” he leaned a hip against the bar. “We have an entire city.”
“Yeah, fuck the rest of the world, we have one whole city.”
Sirius rolled his eyes. “You know what I mean.”
Saint shook his head. “Because that’s what we do. You see that guy over there? I’ve taken him out four times. Couldn’t tell you his name. They couldn’t tell you mine.”
“Everyone knows your name, Saint.”
Saint grinned. “Maybe. But why do we go back to each other? Because we’re creatures of fucking habit.” Saint cocked his head, stole Sirius’ drink. “And what is this city but a bad, bad habit?”
Sirius’ blood cooled and he looked away.
What am I, Sirius? said the familiar voice from his memory. Am I easy? Am I safe? Do you want me, or am I just familiar now?
He closed his eyes against the memory of his reply.
Bad habit indeed.
XOXO
Spotted—a familiar face from the past. What has this train brought in? Thanks to a tip from @magicinthemaking, I bring you this picture of none other than Remus Lupin (and a certain Southern bell we know and love) under Grand Central’s stars. We missed you, Re—how was England? Or was it Europe?
The rumors can never seem to decide, but why the sudden change in plans to take his Junior year abroad? Here we were thinking he wanted nothing more than to stay.
I wonder how another certain star will feel about this sudden homecoming. And just in time for senior year’s Fall semester, too.
XOXO.
Remus adjusted his suitcase, glad he’d mailed so many of his things home. He’d been on U.S. soil for all of three hours, and he already missed Rome. He wanted to walk down the tiny staircase from his billet family’s apartment and get a cappuccino. He wanted to stand on the drain of the Pantheon and soak up the sheer history in the air.
He already wanted a break.
But he also wanted to see Julian. Sometimes it felt like the only thing pulling him back home was seeing his baby brother’s grin in real life rather than across a Facetime call.
“All good?”
Remus looked up at Leo. His blond hair was still bleached a bright blond from the Roman sun. Their program had ended in May, but Remus was glad they had stayed together. He hadn’t been looking for Leo—for someone to kiss for the first time in the rose garden at the top of the Aventine Hill while Leo told him about its past as a cemetery.
It’s footpaths are laid out like a Minorah, see? Leo had pointed out. To remember. 300 different types of roses isn’t enough. But I like to come here.
Remus thought it had been Leo’s love for history, and his respect, too, that had drawn him in. They both came from a world where the biggest thing most people cared about was what they’d wear to the next party, and who was bringing their next drink.
Remus hadn’t been able to believe his luck, as fragile as his heart was still.
“Yeah,” Remus nodded. “All good.”
But he wasn’t sure. They hadn’t been friends here, in the city, or at Hogwarts. It had been Rome. Remus didn’t know what their old lives would do to them. But he took Leo’s hand and watched the way Leo fingered the star he wore around his neck, the way he shot Remus his dimpled smile.
“Come on,” Remus said. “I want you to meet Julian.”
XOXO
Good morning Upper East Siders—Gossip Girl here. All trends point to Fall’s Hogwartsers coming back in Black—in more ways than one. Sirius Black’s got a baby brother on campus now, and after another wild summer for the Hogwarts College elite, count me in with the rest of them on wondering what to expect. Rumor is he’s not much like our favorite star.
“You don’t have to talk to me, you know.”
Sirius kept his eyes on his eggs and toast. “Your missing your tie. Mom said—”
“What do you care?” Regulus replied. “I hear when she used to make you wear one it usually ended up around some other guy’s neck by ten in the morning.”
“If you’re going to believe everything you read on Gossip Girl about me, then maybe I won’t talk to you.”
Regulus smirked. “So, you read it, too.”
“Boys.”
Both brothers went back to their breakfasts.
“Good morning, mom,” Sirius said.
Walburga Black smiled with her painted lips, resting a hand on Sirius’ shoulder and bending to kiss his cheek.
“Don’t you both look handsome for your first day. Although that leather jacket has seen better days, Sirius. Do what you want for dinner, ask Chef, I don’t care. I’ll be at the House.”
The House. The House of Black, his mother’s million dollar fashion industry.
“Fine,” Regulus nodded, and rose. “I’ll take the first car.”
Sirius rolled his eyes again. “Really?”
Regulus just snatched up his backpack.
Saint, James, and Thomas were waiting for him on one of the courtyard tables when Sirius got out of the Escalade. It certainly felt like a first day of a semester. Saint’s neck dripped in gold necklaces—a story behind each one. Thomas, who had replaced his short braids with a closely shaved head, wore a white t-shirt and ripped up jean shorts, gold nose-ring glinting in the sun. James had evidently been helped out by Lily, as usual, a green, tight-fitting Henley shirt bunched up at his elbows. The two flanked Saint, who basked on top of the stone table, head tilted back to bare his throat in a way that made Sirius think of last night, in the back of the bar. He could see a purplish mark he had left there.
“You’re looking surprisingly chipper,” James said when Sirius reached Hogwarts’ courtyard.
Sirius raised an eyebrow, knowing he didn’t. “I’m not failing any classes yet, James.”
His friends went oddly silent. Sirius looked around at them, spreading his hands in confusion. Saint wouldn’t look at him, expression going oddly stoney. Thomas, finally, offered him his phone, biting his lip. Sirius took it.
His heart leapt to his throat. He didn’t even bother reading the Instagram caption. Remus loomed out at him from the phone screen.
“Leo Knut,” Saint said. “Who would have thought.”
Sirius cleared his throat and turned away from the picture—from Remus and Leo’s clasped hands.
“Why wouldn’t I be chipper?” he said again, and ignored their unconvinced expressions. “I’ve got class.”
Under his desk while he waited for the rest of the class to show, Sirius pulled out his phone and opened Instagram.
XOXO
Remus approached campus slowly. He felt like he didn’t know anyone anymore, even if he knew that wasn’t true. He thought he saw James from afar, but Lily and Kasey didn’t have class today.
Really, Remus didn’t know if he had many friends that weren’t…shared. That didn’t feel too close to home. Manhattan wasn’t that big of an island.
He looked down at his schedule he’d written out on his phone.
The 19th Century Novel - Hogsmeade R#302.
He made his way to the Hogsmeade building and climbed the spiral staircase quickly. It all felt too industrial, too metallic. At least he’d woken up with Leo, who still had the ancient air about him. He didn’t want that bubble to pop.
“Mr. Lupin,” Professor McGonagall beamed when he walked in, and Remus smiled, too at her familiar Scottish drawl. “It’s so very nice to have you back.”
“Hi, Professor. It’s good to be—”
But the words died on Remus’ tongue. He looked out at the small class—just twenty at this high level—and his heart, out of habit it seemed, had leapt at the sight of familiar dark hair.
Uh-oh. Looks like Pyramus and Thisbe are actually wishing for a wall between them this time.
Sirius’ hair was shorter than it had been at the end of sophomore year, the last time Remus had seen him. He wore a touch of a beard, too, just scruff, really, but it framed his silver eyes like darkness to the stars—two stars, which were zeroed in on Remus.
“Back,” Remus tried to recover, mouth dry. He sent McGonagall a shaky smile, and turned to find a seat, trying not to find those stars again.
He resisted the urge to close his eyes in defeat when he realized that there was only one left. He walked towards Sirius looking ahead and with his heart pounding. Leo. Leo making pancakes for him and Julian this morning. Leo making his little brother laugh. But he could smell the worn leather of Sirius’ jacket. He remembered the feel of it around his own shoulders. Are you cold, baby?
“All righty, then,” McGonagall stood from her chair and leaned against the front of her desk, looking down her spectacles at the attendance sheet. “Looks like we’re all here.”
XOXO
“Well?” Saint asked as Sirius took the joint from between his fingers.
“Sat down next to me,” Sirius said. “Didn’t say a fucking word.”
“Did you say a fucking word?” Saint raised his eyebrows.
Sirius blew out smoke. “No.”
“Well, all right, you fucking hypocrite.”
Sirius looked over at him from where they lay side by side, stretched out in the fading sunshine of Central Park. “I’m keeping this now.”
“No, you’re not. Did you pay for that? I don’t think so.”
Sirius scoffed. “Yeah, like this made a dent in the Montague treasuries.”
Saint laughed, tucking a palm behind his head. Sirius let his eyes linger on the strip of skin where his shirt rode up. He’d kissed that last night, too. It was nice with Saint. He’d been friends with him for longer than he could remember. Saint never looked for more. If Sirius snapped at him, he snapped back and then they laughed about it. Saint wandered through the world loving people freely. He kissed them, or he made them dinner, or he took them for long walks along the river. He showed them his favorite jazz club, or gave them the orgasm of their life, or read to them from his favorite books. He was New York in human form, accepting and inviting, living and breathing.
Sirius wished he was so trusting, even if trust seemed a funny word to apply to Saint.
No one ever got too close to either of them, except the other.
“What are you wearing to your mom’s fashion show?” Saint asked with his eyes closed. “It’s the event of the season.”
“Are you joking? The fittings started in July.”
“Mm, I love that,” Saint grinned, stretching. “Want to come help me decide what I’m wearing? We’re at the Plaza right now, you know that. You know my mother. If it’s not broken, break it. We’re renovating again. We can order champagne to the room.”
“Is that code for make out?”
“Partly. But I will be showing you my outfit choices.”
“Deal.”
XOXO
Remus made it back home seeing no one, but one of the butlers had an envelope with his name on it waiting for him.
“Thanks, Moody,” Remus murmured, but thought briefly about handing it right back to him.
He knew this invitation. He knew its black boarders and heavy stock. It came ever year.
It used to be something they had looked forward to.
The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black
invites you
TOUJOURS PUR
“Jesus,” Remus breathed, but took it up to his room, checking the time on the way. Julian would still be at school, his parents at work. This apartment was too big for the four of them, not to mention just Remus alone.
His suitcases still lay open and unpacked on his floor, and he kicked at one without looking up.
“So, did you just forget to mention that you were home?”
Remus spun towards his bed, only to find Lily sprawled across it and fiddling with an emerald on a chain.
“I had to find out from Gossip Girl?” Lily shook her head.
Remus slapped the invitation against his thigh. “Wow, wasn’t like that was a surprise present for you or anything.”
Lily smiled, red hair in a thick french braid. “I see green and I know it’s for me. What can I say?”
Remus huffed out a laugh, and she gave a small squeal and pushed off of the bed to wrap him in a hug.
“I’m so happy you’re home, Re.”
He let himself rest his chin in the crook of her neck for a moment. ‘Thanks, Lils.”
She pulled back, hands on his shoulders. “What, no, me too?”
“I am,” he said tentatively. “But I had fun in Rome.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Southern fun?”
“His name is Leo,” Remus said pointedly, then eyed the pile of garment bags piled high on the other side of his bed. “Are those…”
“Pour moi, et pour toi,” Lily patted his cheek. “We have a fashion show to go to, sweetheart.”
XOXO
What do we think, Courtiers? House of Black’s fashion show is the biggest event of the fall. But what on Earth does doe-eyed Remus Lupin have to do within that dark forest now?
Is he a Bambi, or still the wolf we knew?
You know you love me.
XOXO,
Gossip Girl

How about Sirius finding out the reader has a crush on him...and gives her her first kiss? 😘
cigarettes and firewhisky
pairing: sirius/reader
word count: 2.4k
summary: amortentia is no fun to make when you’re partnered up with the person you know it’s going to end up smelling like.
content: fluff, me being bad at writing slughorn, very brief mention of sirius’s family issues, confessions in an empty classroom, kissing but nothing spicy (edit: rereading this i realized i made the reader pretty gender neutral! no pronouns or anything like that :)
you know i had to pull the amortentia trope. this was a cute request, thank you so much! also thank you to my anons who sent in what they thought sirius smelled like, you guys were a lot of help! (except the person who suggested that sirius smells like wet dog. you know who you are.)
This was the worst thing that could possibly happen to you. Surely some higher power was laughing at you from above, taunting you and your dreadful luck.
Your heart was beating a million miles a minute. How on earth did you end up being paired up with Sirius Black of all people?! And - even worse - making the worst potion ever concocted?!
If you weren’t in public you’re sure you’d be letting out a crazed laugh out of pure mania.
So far you’ve been able to dodge all of his attempts at conversation, quickly sending him off to find another ingredient as soon as he got too chatty. You’d hardly made any eye contact at all, and any time he handed you something you were careful not to have his fingertips even slightly graze your own.
In truth, you’ve had an enormous crush on Sirius Black since third year, and it had only gotten worse as the years went by. This meant that by now, you had become a bit of an expert at avoiding him at all costs.
But now it was all ruined. Years of hard work spiraling down the drain all because of fucking Amortentia.
Why couldn’t it have been a simple calming draught? Or a shrinking solution? Hell, you would’ve even preferred to make Slughorn his lunch!
And it’s not as if you can sabotage the potion, either! That would mean Sirius’s grade suffering too. You just couldn’t bring yourself to do it.
There was no way out but to lie about what the potion smells of if he asks. Simple! That way no one finds out - more importantly, that way Sirius doesn’t find out - about your silly little crush. Foolproof. Genius. Inspired-!
“Do you like me?”
“What?!” You jolt as panic overtakes you, snapping your head up to meet Sirius’s eyes.
“Do you like me?” he repeats, smiling slightly. “I can’t help but feel like you hate me, seeing as you haven’t looked at me or talked to me at all.”
Internally, you breathe out a sigh of relief, glad you had misinterpreted the question.
“No! I-” Your voice is much too high, you stop to clear your throat. “I do! I do like you, I um... Sorry! I promise I don’t hate you, I guess I’m just... shy.” You finish your blabbering by looking away, pretending to inspect the fire below your cauldron.
When you raise your gaze again Sirius is still looking at you - observing you as if you’re an interesting puzzle that he can’t quite figure out.
“Um!” you quickly turn your attention to the potion, hoping he does the same. “Nearly done, right? Here.” You hold out the wooden spoon for him to take. “Five more clockwise stirs.”
He looks at the spoon but then folds his hands behind his back. “You do it,” he offers instead.
You purse your lips but nod anyway, bringing the wood up to the cauldron’s opening. The pearlescent liquid shifts under the spoon as it touches the surface, and once it’s fully submerged you take a deep breath and start stirring.
One... Two... Three... Four...
As soon as you finish the fifth stir your nose is assaulted by a suffocating aroma of cigarettes and firewhisky. You quickly step back, coughing and tossing the spoon on the table, but the scent follows you.
That doesn’t smell very appealing! Had you done something wrong? You could have sworn you’d followed the recipe exactly!
But then suddenly the scent changes, rapidly becoming much more welcoming. Cigarettes and firewhisky quickly turns into the undertone to something different... Cinnamon shampoo? But also... cologne, and... You could also catch the faint whiff of a brand new leather jacket.
“I think...” you start, eyes trained on the potion that now has delicate tendrils of steam coming off its surface. “I think we did it.” You laugh a bit in astonishment, proud of the fact that you’d managed to make such an advanced potion.
When you turn your head Sirius is looking at you again, in that infuriating way with his gorgeous eyes and stupid grin. You desperately want to look away but just can’t bring yourself to do so.
“How can you tell?” he asks quietly, and you suddenly feel everything else in the room slip away until it’s just him in front of you.
“I... It-”
“What’s it smell like?”
His low voice puts you in such a trance that for a moment you think you’re about to tell him the truth, but you quickly remember what you’d decided on earlier. Lie.
“Ban-” Bananas? No! “Bal-” Balloons? What would that even mean?! “Bu... bblegum. Bubblegum.” You finally land on, and then give a minuscule wince.
Bubblegum?! Although, you suppose it’s better than balloons...
“Bubblegum?” Sirius repeats, brows furrowed.
“Yep! And is that...? Oh! Firewood!” you continue, pulling lies out of thin air. Sirius’s furrowed brows fade away, and an amused smile starts to form on his features instead.
“And, um... And sun cream! Huh, weird.”
“Bubblegum, firewood, and sun cream?” Sirius lists, as if needing clarification from you.
“Well, I-”
“And look what we have here!” Professor Slughorn’s booming voice is suddenly feet away from the two of you, standing right beside your cauldron. “I do believe we have our first finished brew of Amortentia! Although I can’t say I’m surprised, Mr. Black,” Slughorn beams, giving Sirius a knowing look.
Sirius just shuffles awkwardly.
If Slughorn notices Sirius’s discomfort, he doesn’t show it. Instead, he continues, “You know, your father was an exceptional potion maker. Very talented indeed, and you and your brother seem to be following in his footsteps! Although I must say, young Regulus has been a bit unfocused lately, he-”
“Uh, professor?” you speak up when Sirius flinches at his brother’s name.
Slughorn blinks and then looks at you as if he’s just noticed you were there. “Oh- Yes?”
“So... The potion? Did we do it right?”
“Oh, yes, yes, of course! Full marks!” He waves you off, as if you were being silly for even asking. “And ten points for each of you!” he adds for good measure before strolling off, most likely to go torment some other student with a famous surname.
After that, Sirius doesn’t much seem to be up for talking anymore. He focuses all his attention on cleaning up your station, closing up jars of rose petals and pearl dust. You follow his lead, albeit a bit sluggishly.
A few minutes ago you would’ve been okay with Sirius’s silence - happy, even, if it meant you didn’t have to deal with your little crush. But now you would give anything to have him cheerful and smiling again - even if he looked at you with those annoyingly pretty eyes.
Once class is over you’re quick to duck out of the room, desperately wanting to leave Slughorn and Amortentia and the smell of cigarettes and firewhisky behind you.
It’s all over now, everything went according to plan and you can finally go back to doing what you do best. Secretly pining after Sirius Black from a distance.
It’s safe. It’s what you’re good at.
You’re just about ready to forget about this day entirely when you hear a familiar voice calling your name.
...Maybe you were hearing things.
You speed up your steps but then he calls your name again and you’re forced to slow down, waiting for him to catch up. When he does he gives you another winning smile and your heart does a flip.
“Hey, listen,” he starts, and you listen intently. “Sorry about uh... Just... Thanks.”
You’re a bit taken aback. You’re not sure what you were expecting, but it certainly wasn’t a ‘thank you’.
“I... For what?” you ask, genuinely perplexed, but trying not to sound rude.
“Getting Slughorn to leave,” he clarifies with a grin. “He’s always been the same... I’ve been dealing with that for seven years now.”
There’s laughter in his voice but you can tell it’s a bit frayed at the edges. He’s clearly trying - and failing - to play it off as no big deal.
“Sorry,” you offer lamely. “That doesn’t sound fun.”
It really doesn’t.
You don’t know much about Sirius’s family, but you know enough to understand that he probably doesn’t like to be constantly reminded of them. Sharing their last name and seeing his brother in the halls was probably more than enough.
“It’s fine. And, I didn’t just want to thank you,” he says quickly, realizing that the conversation had gotten gloomy.
“Oh?” you voice with a bit of a nervous smile.
“I wanted to ask what it smelled like. The Amortentia.”
There goes your heart again. A million miles a minute.
“What do you mean?” you ask, laughing a bit. “I told you. Bubblegum and um...”
Shoot! What were the other two?!
“Firewood and sun cream?” Sirius prompts, and you nod frantically.
“Yep! That was it!” you’re quick to blurt out. Unconsciously, you pick up your pace, now traveling at a slight speed walk.
Sirius keeps up easily. “But you’re lying,” he accuses, pointing a finger at you, and you swear you start to sweat. “You started coughing when you finished stirring. What did you smell then?”
“I-! Well-! The bubblegum was very pungent, and I-”
“And it looked to me like you were just naming anything that came to your head. Were you about to say balloons at one point?”
“You know, I don’t appreciate being interrogated like this, and quite frankly I- woah!”
You suddenly find that you’re being pulled somewhere by the elbow, and only when you hear a door close behind you do you realize that Sirius has dragged you into an empty classroom. You don’t even have time to take in your surroundings, because Sirius is asking you again:
“So what did you smell?”
You consider lying again, but he’s staring at you with his big, pretty eyes, just waiting for you to tell the truth and all of a sudden you really, really want to.
You thought - you really thought - that you would be content to just go back to crushing on him from a safe distance, but then the Amortentia had happened and he had looked at you different. He was looking at you differently even now - eyes glittering, listening attentively for your answer. And suddenly pining from a distance doesn’t seem so appealing.
You groan in frustration, bringing both of your hands up to cover your face. You just can’t believe what this boy is doing to you.
“It’s so stupid,” you admit, feeling your cheeks head up beneath your palms.
“It’s not,” he assures you, gently wrapping both his hands around each of your wrists, silently asking you to stop covering your face.
You shake you head. “It is, and if you’re asking then you already know.”
“So humor me.”
You abruptly drop your hands to look up at him and, woah - had he always been that close? He’d definitely gotten a bit closer since you’d closed your eyes.
You let out a shaky breath. “Cigarette smoke... Firewhisky...” you trail off. You mean to keep going, but decide to wait for Sirius’s initial reaction first.
Sirius blinks. “Gross,” he says after a beat, and it startles a laugh out of you.
“Yeah, a bit. I thought we messed it up, but then... Um, it changed.”
You search his features for any signs of discomfort, but find none. In fact, Sirius seems to be basking in every word you tell him.
So you keep going, very quietly, “Cologne and...” Without thinking you bring a hand up to rest delicately on his shoulder. “Leather and... Cinnamon...”
You hand moves of it’s own volition, resting on the junction of Sirius’s shoulder and neck and you stare dazedly at it for a moment. You blink and then realize what you’re doing.
You pull your hand away as if you’ve been burned. “Sorry, I-”
But then Sirius is leaning forward fast and - Merlin, was he about to kiss you?!
You panic for a moment, knowing you have to think quick. Your hand darts up again, this time landing on his collarbone, putting your palm flat up against him and pressing firmly, willing him to stop.
He gets the message and quickly pulls back. “I’m sorry-”
“No!” you blurt out so fast that it sounds more like a squeak. “No, no, it’s not that I don’t... I mean I want to, I do I just...” You screw your eyes shut. “I’ve never kissed anyone.”
“Fuck,” Sirius lets out a laugh.
Your heart sinks as you open your eyes. Was he laughing at you?
“Sorry, I’m not laughing at you,” he clarifies quick, as if reading your mind. “For a second I thought the Amortentia was a big coincidence and you didn’t like me at all.” he smiles, and you realize his laugh was a laugh of relief.
“No! I-!” You groan again and lean against the closed door. Was it confession day or something?! “No, I’ve... I’ve liked you since third year.”
“What about first and second?” he fires back quick, grinning stupidly.
You don’t miss a beat. “I was scared of you, then. You were too loud.”
He barks out a laugh and you suddenly feel the urge to look away, feeling as if you’re intruding. And then you remember you’re not. It’s just you and Sirius here. So many times you’d seen that laugh from a distance, across a crowded Great Hall but now it was just for you.
Sirius speaks up once his laughter dies down. “Look, you don’t have to-”
“No, I want to-”
“I don’t wanna make you uncomfortable-”
“You haven’t! I just-”
“We can just go to class-”
“Sirius!” you say sharply, and he looks at you with wide eyes. “Kiss me. Please,” you say with a laugh, wanting him to shut up already.
He grins and then wastes no time in leaning forward, taking your face in his hands and pressing his lips to yours. You smell it again - cinnamon shampoo, cologne, new leather, and - very faintly - cigarettes and firewhisky.
You melt into the kiss, bringing you hands up to rest at the nape of his neck, idly playing with the strands of hair you find. It’s awkward at first, but you try your best to relax into it, following Sirius’s lead and just doing whatever comes naturally.
He pulls away and you slowly blink your eyes back open, willing yourself out of the trance Sirius’s lips had just put you in.
“Fast learner,” he whispers, smiling, and you laugh.
“We should get to class...” you suggest halfheartedly, not stepping away or making any move to leave.
“Yeah,” Sirius agrees, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. “Probably...”
You both look at each other for a few beats, but then you each break into a smile.
And he kisses you again.

Being Regulus’ S/O and Watching Him be Corrupted by His Family • Headcanon
Tumblr media
(GIF not mine)
Warnings: angst! The Dark Mark, Voldemort, the Noble house of black deserves their own warning, death mention, poor regulus
Request: hi beautiful! could i request headcanons for regulus black's s/o? a female one if it's not too much trouble:) could i get some angst with reader saying "All I ever wanted was your approval, because I didn't know I was allowed to want anything else." if that might be too triggering, please feel free to ignore that part. maybe regulus is being "corrupted" by his mother and starting to turn into what she wants him to be? and the reader disapproves and tries to get him to realize that what he's doing is wrong? take care of yourself, luv <3 — @lucellence
A.N: oops I like this, I think. There’s more dialogue than I thought but that’s ok. I hope you guys enjoy! And love you all ❤️
Your boyfriend, Regulus Black, started acting odd after winter break in your fifth year
Sure, he was always soft spoken and a little distant before, but this was different
He wanted to be alone more often and always looked like he never actually slept at night
Avery, Mulciber, and Rosier started hanging around you, Regulus, and Barty in the Great Hall
You could deal with Barty, he and Regulus were friends since they were 11
But the other three?
They were known bullies and blood supremacists
They made you uncomfortable
“Reg can we please go somewhere else?”
“(Y/n)—“
“Please Reg?”
He looks so torn. Glancing between his new friends and the love of his life
“Yeah, ok”
So you go and sit at the top of the Astronomy tower or in the far corner of the library
But he doesn’t look all there
He’s listening to you and smiling at you
But he still looks like he’d rather be with them
And it hurts
He also stops complaining about his mother and his other family members
In fact, you try to talk to him about the many letters he gets from his mother and sometimes even Bellatrix, but he refuses to acknowledge them
He doesn’t open them at the table, he stuffs them in his robes and opens them in private in his own dorm
“They aren’t important, ma colombe (my dove in French according to Google). So don’t worry about it.”
“If they aren’t important, then why are you getting one from Narcissa’s boyfriend as well?”
“He just...wants to get to know the family better, (Y/n). You know he’s planning on proposing to her soon.”
“Yeah...I guess that makes sense.”
But if it was such an innocent letter, why was he hiding it from you?
You notice that Regulus’ eyes never settle
His light grey eyes constantly flick around like he’s suspicious of every little movement
This continues until you have to part ways at the end of the year
He’s not allowed to visit you
You’re not allowed to visit him
“You’ll stay safe, right Reg?”
“You worry about me too much, ma colombe.”
“Well when you live with that Merlin awful mother of yours—“
“Honestly, she’s not that bad, (Y/n).”
“Not that bad? Regulus are you serious?”
“No, I’m Regulus—“
“Ugh, you’re lucky I love you.”
“Indeed I am...” He mumbles under his breath
But the train finally stops, meaning Regulus has to rush off to meet his father in the platform
He presses a quick kiss to your lips before rushing out, barely promising to write over the summer
Regulus writes to you here and there
Not as often as usual
Then, in July, he stops writing altogether
This could be for a number of reasons, honestly, and none of them good
You hope he’s alright
You get one letter late in August
The script is shaky and barely legible
Smudged in certain places like he didn’t wait for the ink to dry before sending it
Dearest (Y/n),
Sorry for the late reply, mother wanted visit our cousins in Germany Bulgaria their estate in France.
I truly wanted to write back, but you know my family. I never had time alone. Always watching, they are.
It sounds like you’ve had an amazing summer, and I can’t wait to see you on the train.
Be careful out there,
RAB
The uneasiness doesn’t go away
Because you know he’s lying
You don’t send a reply, knowing full well that you won’t get another letter from him
You meet him on the Hogwarts Express
The hug is quick and is only with one arm—his left one staying at his side at all times
Much to your dismay
You have to share your compartment
You’re squished next to the window, Regulus next to you, Barty next to him
Avery, Mulciber, and Rosier across from you
You hate every minute of it
They sneer at you the entire time
You study your boyfriend the entire way to school
How he has darker bags under his eyes
And his hair isn’t as neat and proper as usual
His clothes are stiffer and heavier on his smaller frame
Skin paler, eyes duller
He tries to act casual, his left arm just out of the way of the action
But you notice as he sometimes winces during a turn or cradles it closer to his body
You grow suspicious
Let’s flashfowards a bit to....November
It’s the middle of the night and you’re following Regulus down to the library
He’s alone, looking like he doesn’t want to be caught
He quickly starts rummaging through the Restricted Section
Which isn’t bad, everyone sneaks into the Restricted Section at least once in their Hogwarts careers
But then he starts flipping through books about Dark Magic
And the sleeve of his grey jumper starts to roll up
And you see it
The Dark Mark
Black and wriggling against his pale flesh
“What have they done to you, Regulus?”
He whips his head to your frame so fast, his books clatter to the ground
His eyes widen in fear
“(Y/n), I can explain.”
“You can explain?” You’re starting to shout
“(Y/n), let’s take this somewhere else. Please—“
“What? You don’t want me to expose you? Expose you for being a Death—“
“Silencio!”
And suddenly your screams are cut off, you look at him, tears in your eyes
“Oh Salazar, I’m sorry.” He looks like he’s about to cry, pacing in front of you, fingers tightly grasping his hair in panic. “I’m so so sorry, (Y/n)...”
He reaches out to you
“I’m going to take you somewhere, ok? We need to go before we get caught. Please. Please just trust me.”
Reluctantly you follow him to the Room of Requirement
Which has taken the form of a similar library
Shelves lined with books and other magical artifacts
He quickly reverses the spell once the door is closed
“What the hell, Regulus?”
“I—“
“Let me see it.”
You push his sleeve up to once again reveal the inky snake and skull tattoo across his forearm
“Oh Regulus...”
“I couldn’t stop it.” His voice wavers and he’s trying to push back tears. “They brought me and a few others to his manor, and I was forced—“
“We’ll go to Dumbledore—“
“You don’t understand, (Y/n)! I felt him! I felt his cold hands wrapped around my arm! His veins fueled with raw power! Dumbledore won’t be able to stop him. No one will!”
“Please, Reg! You were forced, I’m sure it can be reversed if you just tell the Headmaster now—“
“They’ll kill me, (Y/n)! Don’t you understand? They already suspect my doubt! That’s why I’m being watched. Monitored even at school. One wrong word, one slip of the tongue and I’m dead!”
You wrap your arms around him, careful to avoid his searing arm
He returns the hug, tears dripping into you as he chokes back sobs
“I’m sorry...I’m sorry...I’m sorry.”
“You don’t have to do this, Reg. I swear.”
“Of course I have to. I have no other choice.”
“You can be like Sirius! And live with the Potters. Or with me.”
“And when the Death Eaters come hunting you down? When they burn down your house with you inside? Tortured? Screaming in agony? That’ll be my fault.”
He looks absolutely terrified
Eyes wide, lips wobbling
He can barely catch his breath
“No, (Y/n). I can’t do that.”
“You’re not your mother, Regulus. Or Bellatrix, or Narcissa. You can be like Andromeda and Sirius. You can get out. There’s still time.”
“They’re manipulating you, Reg! Corrupting you! You aren’t a bad person or a dark wizard!”
You bring your hands to cup either side of his jaw
Your own tearful eyes lock onto his
“You’re my boyfriend. You’re sweet and caring...and—and...Merlin Reg! I can’t even describe you, you just mean so much to me. I can’t lose you, Reg. No, I refuse to lose you.”
“I—I don’t want to die...” He sobs, so openly and freely
You’ve had enough of this
You take him by the hand and lead him out the door, which is easy in his weakened and fatigued state
The two of you march through the corridors to Dumbledore’s office
He’ll know what to do
