Getting into any comics fandom after being into manga is so insane because fandom discourse is so muddled here like omg. Canon meta is so clouded with people writing fanon meta and fanon takes but not mentioning anywhere that it's not strictly canon or anything similar. In my experience with manga, people usually mention a post being their headcanon and don't conflate it with canon discussions of characters and their actions and it usually remains pretty separate. Of course people still write fics where one character is written entirely with a new personality (that completely contradicts their canon character) but it is well understood that that is just a story telling choice, not an examination of the actual canon character. In short there is just less genuine confusion about what is and isn't canon and people often take care to not bring their headcanons into discussions about canon meta and present their fanon as some kind of valid canon interpretation. I was initially so surprised that so many people genuinely think that fanfic plots (like Tim being threatened with Arkham by Dick for example) are a part of comics canon or something? I don't understand the reluctance to read the source material because how can you meaningfully transform the source material if you haven't read it? So many things change if you change a character's personality which can be interesting to explore (for example what if Dick did threaten Tim with Arkham? Why would Dick do that? If Dick had always been like that what other past relationships would be different now? What would that mean for their relationship with each other and everyone else from that point onwards?) but it cannot be examined in a way that encompasses all the important aspects if the writer does not know those aspects in the first place. And where would you find those aspects if not the source material? I may not like Taming of The Shrew by Shakespeare but in order to write a version of it where things go differently, I would still need to read the original play and understand it instead of reading incorrect quotes about the characters, right? I think headcanons and fanon takes are really fun and a very interactive arena for fans and that's good but I think people should generally at least be aware that their headcanon is a headcanon and cannot be assimilated into canon meta discussions as if it were a fact. How would we decide which comics run's writing is OOC if we base our understanding of canon characters and themes on popular fanon takes yk?

Yeah the issue with comics compared to many other mediums especially Manga or Books or other graphic novels is that there are so many hands and writers who combine to make an entire universe especially over 85 years worth of canon and retcons. And enviably you're gonna have bad runs or ooc moments that should be what fanon is for. Fixing the bad moments in comics from bad writers.

And I'm never gonna knock people for headcanons or just completely ignoring bad OOC moments in comics because again so many people (Especially DC) get assigned to characters they don't know or care about or actively hate (See Chuck Dixon writing Green Arrow)

But when you make the characters do things that are not only not canon but even more OOC than the actual bad canon. Then we have a problem with fanon.

I always say you should know the canon to know why this might be bad or wrong that way you can explain why you don't like this part or think it's wrong.

For example I'm not a fan of Chuck Dixon's Nightwing run so much of it felt weird and OOC especially when you read it right after NTT. But I still know the canon even if I don't like to acknowledge a lot of it myself.

And it's completely fine to acknowledge when you don't know something. Comics are a huge medium, not everyone is gonna know everything about every character not even the most devout fans can do that. I find that yes there are snobby mean comic fans but there are even more fans who you can ask if this is a thing that actually happened and they'll happily tell you yes or no and explain the true canon. It's why I always appreciate people who can let me know a piece of Canon I missed or if I misremembered or just about a character I don't know a lot about. It's always okay to look to others to ask and to find out yourself.

- Angst. I love angst just as much as I love fluff! We gotta make the readers cry sometimes, that’s life. Just like with fluff, if u have an angst request, please drop a comment! Remember, this includes violence, major/minor character death, etc

- DIVERSITY. LIVE LAUGH LOVE DIVERSITY!!! POC characters? Bet, just don’t change the characters ethnicity or race! I will never make a character a different race than they actually are (example I won’t make a black character white or vise versa) but if a character doesn’t have a canon race and their race isn’t obvious, I will do my research! Queer characters? OMG YES!! Again, I won’t change a character’s canon sexuality. But if a character doesn’t have a canon sexuality, I’m willing to experiment! I have no problem headcanoning a character as bisexual. But (example) I won’t make a lesbian character bisexual for a story just bc someone asked me to. I find that to be disrespectful. I also will definitely have characters that are neurodivergent. As someone who is neurodivergent, I find it hard to find stories with a Y/N who rlly shows what anxiety feels like, or any mental disorder for that matter. So if you want to request a character who is neurodivergent, I’m all for it! I’ve always headcanoned Tommy (karate kid) to have ADHD and Jimmy (karate kid) to have social anxiety. If you request a certain mental disorder I don’t know much about, I will research the disorder first so it may take a little longer than usual! Anyways, I’m all for diversity and will have lots of diverse OCs and if requested, Y/N stories too!

- Ships!! Both platonic and romantic. I will not ship real people like actors though. I’m also all for writing abt ships that aren’t my own, again, love diversity! I personally don’t ship Lawrusso(karate kid) that much but I think they’re hella adorable and would love to write a Lawrusso fic in the future. Also, again, just bc I love diversity doesn’t mean I won’t write about heterosexual couples too. You ship Tommy and Susan and are struggling to find a fic abt them? I gotchu! It’s not a crime to like a ship that is not queer!

- A lil bit of spice. A little make out session will always be okay with me. I will only write the kissing, anything beyond that is considered smut in my eyes. So if u want a lil kissing then that’s alr. Kissing in general will always be okay with me, kissing in general falls under the fluff section. Making out has its own section.

- Crack fics. Another type of writing I love is comedy. I’ll write stories purely just about a group chat of people doing stupid shit. Or incorrect quotes bc you have to love those.

- Alcohol/drugs/smoking. News flash, most of my stories are gonna be karate kid/cobra Kai/the outsiders themed. Or just 80s movies and general. And guess what? During those movies everyone is smoking and drinking and having a whiff of cocaine once in a while. I’m not uncomfortable with writing about this type of stuff, but if you are remember I will always read back and add trigger warnings.

- Other alternate universes. Uhm, we need these! I love doing the occasional soulmate AU or a fantasy realm AU! It’s just such a fun way to add a little twist to the stories. If you want a crossover, it depends on if I’ve seen the movies or not but I’ll try my best.

- Gore. There are times I will write it and times I won’t. If it’s gore to get off, absolutely not. If it’s gore for angst, yes. If it’s gore for a horror story, yes. If it’s gore because I’m writing a fanfic/ one shot of a fandom that involves a lot of violence (examples are movies Star Wars), yes. Fantasy, yes. I will not write gore for you to get your rocks off or just to take pleasure in because that makes me uncomfortable. If gore is written, it is strictly for angst, horror, fantasy, etc.

- Headcanons for characters. I’ll do headcanons for characters, readers (as long as the request has enough info about the specific reader to do so), and same with OCs. Also, if requesting headcanons for a certain reader and your boundaries are different than mine (example not okay with kissing, PDA, etc) then tell me, and don’t be ashamed to tell me.

- Smut. This is definitely more on the no side. I’ve never written smut but like, it’s whatever the reader wants. I’ll try my best. Lists of things I won’t write in smut will be in the ‘no’ section. Anything on smut that’s a maybe will be on here, obviously. Also the smut will not be detailed, and will most likely just hint at it so pls don’t get your hopes up.

- Requests. It sounds bad at first but let me explain. If you comment a request once and wait, I will try my best to do it! Keep in mind I am busy and have a life outside of social media. But I won’t accept a request if it breaks my boundaries or you spam my comments with a certain request. If you do the first one, I’ll remind you to read my boundaries before requesting and if you continue to disrespect my boundaries, I’ll block you and you can’t read my stories. As for the second one, I’ll simply ignore you and if that doesn’t work I’ll block you. So don’t do those two things please.

- x female reader. I’m sorry to say this (truth hurts) but female readers have 50x the amount of writing content than male readers have. I can’t find a single Star Wars x male reader fic, can’t find a single Karate kid x male reader fic without smut that I haven’t written myself, and it sucks. And if it is a male reader, it’s usually a heterosexual couple. Nothing wrong with heterosexual couples, but queer male readers exist too. So I will only rarely write content for female readers. If it’s a WLW ship, then of course I’ll write than for you. But heterosexual ships are simply not my specialty.

- Zoophilia. Y’all are weird.

- Rape, dub-con, and non-con. All of these make me very uncomfortable and will simply never be written. Call me boring, call me rude, but I don’t think it’s healthy to get off to rape. This is a safe space page and will stay that way.

- Pedophilia or large age gaps. I think this explains itself. No minor x adult, no large age gaps (4-5 years is my limit. Nothing over that. And 4-5 is still on thin ice.)

- Omegaverse. It simply makes me uncomfortable. Anything to do with breeding makes me uncomfortable. So I’m sorry but if you’re into that, you won’t be getting it here.

- Kinks I will never write: CNC, scat, piss, spit, extreme choking, slapping/spanking, any form of hitting basically, pet play, age play (age regression does not count), whipping, rimming (I know a lot of people r gonna get annoyed at that but I just hate it. Any form of eating someone out makes me very uncomfortable.) These all make me uncomfortable and there are no ways to wiggle around them.

- Kinks I will add trigger warnings for: Extreme BDSM, any form of gags or covering the mouth, slight choking (even just a hand resting over the neck. This does not include someone lovingly holding the side of the neck), finger sucking, religious kinks as long as it’s respectful, (and usually I’ll add a warning for just the smut itself but these are specific kinks I will point out), degrading, uses of the safe word, inappropriate use of the force. And after smut I will ALWAYS WRITE AFTERCARE BC AFTERCARE IS SEXY ASF.

I was tagged for this game by @maskedemerald and @dogmomwrites (thanks for the tags!) This game was really fun since these characters are a little bit of a blank sheet of paper. For some background, Eladri is the Lady of Silver Bay, a trading city near the border of the Duchy of Maja. A proud and noble woman, she guides her city with a wisdom beyond her young years. Yet sometimes, that wisdom becomes an untamed fire when her charges are threatened. She is betrothed to Dwelyn, an elf princess whose reputation for brawling is only matched by her fervor for the hunt. Eladri: Fight me! (Yes, they are going to end up together. No, it will not be good for Arden's health). Honestly debating if I want to spend NaNo just fleshing out all these characters (which, I really should given they're all important). And then here's a few more quotes that stood out to me.

Dizzy Dreamer (Sandman story)

Hey, it's DC. And that's what it was voted on in the polls. I know this is in first person, I wrote this as basically my own self insert. Sorry if you don't like that. I kinda like how this is written.

I'm also goin to take a break from postin so much for days straight. I try to make it different. Life is just so busy and gets in the way with sittin down and writin actual stories and headcanons without it lookin rushed. That's why I always do incorrect quotes.

I have no context for this story. I was just bored when I wrote this last year.

Anywhore, the character is as always nonbinary.

Word Count: 850 (So, pretty short.)

I float above the Dream Lord, watchin him work as he creates dreams and nightmares for the mortals in the wakin world. I sigh in boredom of the dreams he'd make but keep up on my toes for the nightmares. It was like watchin TV. But you don't have a remote control and the channels change from only two genres.

I hear the personification sigh, clearly annoyed of my presence. I don't blame him, I just LOVE causin trouble. There's a reason I'm the trouble muse. That's how I get along with his sibling, Desire, so well. “Two peas in a pod!” they'd tell me with a mischievous twinkle in their golden eyes as they grin at me. Miss that twin.

“Hello?” Dream spoke up, wakin me from my thoughts, growin impatient.

“Hmm?” I spoke up, lazily lookin at his gaunt pale face with a half ass smile.

“I asked you what your business here is, Muse.” he coldly says, lookin back at his work.

“Hmm.. None, just bored.. Desire is busy with their thing, so I decided the next best thing, Dizzy Dreamer.” I watch him glare at me for the nickname I gave him that he absolutely LOATHES.

“Don't me that.” we both said at the same time, me mockin his voice, hearin him growl in frustration at me.

“ENOUGH.” his voice booms in the big room as he turns to face me, gettin closer to me as I continue floatin upside down, flippin right side up to face him properly.

“You're such a stick in the mud, Dream.” I stick my tongue out at him playfully, not takin his frustration seriously in the slightest.

“You're an annoyance to my work and myself.” the stars in his black eyes twinkle in irrigation.

“I can't help it! It's who I am.~” I shrug playfully, “Blame Desire and Delirium for creatin me. Y'know I'm not new. Besides, I'm technically not doin anythin to you.”

Dream sighs in annoyance at my answer, closin his eyes as he pinched the bridge of his nose, I was right and he knew it, “I'm not workin for your entertainment, Muse.”

“Don't be so mean, Dreamer.” I teased, “Though the nightmares DO entertain me. Where IS the nightmare?” I'm tryin to ruffle him up now and he sees it.

Flexin his jaw in irritation, he gets closer to me where we're face-to-face like he was with his sibling, Desire. From what they've told me.

“That's none of your concern. Or any of your affairs to deal with..” his voice was cold when he answered, immediately shuttin down the topic, feelin his cold breath hit my face.

“Right.. My ‘affairs’..” I air quote the last word. Man, what a tough crowd. I sigh, lettin myself float down, my bare feet gently touchin the cold stone floor of the Dream Lord’s castle, my eyes not leavin his from my movement. “Y'know, ya should lighten up a little bit, Dizzy Dreamer. You're always so serious. Such a fun sucker.”

He doesn't reply, his face cold and unwelcomin as he still looks at me.

“Boop!” I quickly poke his nose, only for his hand to quickly shoot up, tightly grippin my wrist of the hand that touched him.

“DON'T touch me.. You're testin my patience, Muse..” his grip tightens and I hissed out in pain he's actually causin.

“Yea. Yea. I get it.. I'll leave.” I replied stiffly, yankin my arm to get out of his cold, iron grip, “You wonder why you're so damn alone and don't ever see that you push others away. You're always so serious bout anythin, even if it doesn't involve you.”

He glares at me coldly, not sayin a word in reply to what I said.

“Even Desire is honestly more bearable than you, cause anyone can BREATHE and not get yelled at. I feel bad for Lucienne. No wonder Cor-”

Before I could finish my sentence, Dream had his hand in my icy white hair so tightly, bringin my face close to his. “Ah!” I yelled in pain from his tight grip in my hair.

“DON'T. Speak of him, Muse. You DON'T know what my affairs are which are NONE of your business..” his grip gets tighter with every word he said, causin me to wince in pain, “Your next choice of words better be carefully thought out, as my patience has run incredibly low..”

I look at his pitch black eyes, swallowin hard as I try to reply, “I-”

“Carefully.” he warns me, watchin my reaction and waitin for a responce from me.

I swallowed hard again, breathin out, “I'll stay out of your affairs.. I'm sorry, Lord Morpheus..” I slowly replied as I picked my words to not anger him even more than I did.

He pauses for a moment, his tight grip in my hair loosens as he jerks my head away from him, almost knockin me down and losin my balance a little. “You better. Don't test me..”

I rub my throbbin head, givin him one last look before vanishin into smoke, goin right back to Desire’s realm.

I come bearing a random DC AU! This has been kicking around my head for a while now. I am admittedly not up to date with the current DC lore, and this probably isn’t going to fit perfectly into that. Without further ado, I present the Canary Sisters AU!

Lawrence Quentin Lance was a hard-working cop, who fell in love with teacher by day, vigilante by night Aurora Drake. Aurora, a metahuman who studied magic, was the original Black Canary, armed with a supersonic scream, teleportation spells, and badass combat prowess learned from her father. The two eventually got married, and had three children: Laurel, Dinah, and Sara. 

Laurel is the one most in tune with her magic. She’s responsible, cautious, and doesn’t always enjoy the drama of her sister’s lives. But she has admitted to wanting to use her natural born abilities and fight crime. She’s a strong-willed lawyer and has even been recommended to various superheroes and teams in order to keep them out of scandals. It’s very common to find her hanging out at Justice League headquarters, whether that be the Watchtower or Hall of Justice, as well at Justice League parties. She is currently training with her younger sisters in combat, with the hope of becoming a vigilante of sorts herself. She is mostly self-taught when it comes to magic, although she’s trying to find a way to train with official users and still have time for her job.

Dinah is the one who inherited her mother’s metahuman abilities. She’s a natural born leader, as well as someone who knows how to get a job done. While she doesn’t always think everything through, Dinah is an incredibly skilled planner, and is well respected by pretty much everyone she works with. She was the first of her sisters to enter into the vigilante business. Her day job is as a child psychologist. She operates as a mentor of sorts for the younger generation of heroes, also offering therapy to help them with their mental wellbeing. She’s currently a member of the Justice League and the Birds of Prey and does her best to help Sara cope with her bloodlust. Even if the two end up getting into squabbles from time to time. 

Sara is the wild child, with an impulsive streak and a headstrong personality. She had neither magic nor metahuman abilities. She ended up being cursed by one of her mother’s former nemeses with a strong bloodlust. Doctor Fate managed to seal it away, and Aurora did everything she could to keep her daughter out of a situation that could release the bloodlust. As such, Sara lashed out even more, before convincing Dinah to teach her how to fight. Her bloodlust surfaced during a battle with Flash’s Rogues, but said hero managed to calm her down. Although scared she’ll hurt someone else, Laurel convinced her to take an offer the Justice League gave her and join the team.

I'm gonna try and post more headcanons and incorrect quotes about this au because I honestly really like the idea! I hope I can convince myself to draw these three ladies together, as well as their mom, Aurora. This was really fun to write, and I can’t wait to come back with more info!

THE OWLS ARE IN! IT’S TIME FOR THE SURVEY RESULTS!

So, as many of our followers are probably aware, we recently did a survey to get a feel of what people thought of our blog. We got a total of 57 results and we are grateful to each and every one of you for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. Now, we’re here to share the general consensus of what people thought and how we will accommodate these opinions.

We’ll definitely have some changes to the blog, so read on to see what those changes are!

Before we begin, we have a few things to briefly mention.

The results are pretty scattered. We didn’t want to restrict anyone, so most were free response or included “Other”. In hindsight, there were a few questions that could have easily been multiple choice without really restricting anyone. (Side eyes the first question.) Therefore, most of these will just summarize the results we got. Occasionally drop the graph for the multiple choice questions.

Because of the large amount of responses we got, not every answer will be listed here. We highlighted the things that were either most commonly mentioned or had us thinking the most.

Our original quotes often don’t have sources. But if there’s one where a mod forgot to credit a source, please just message us and one of the admins will fix that!

Strangely enough, we got this a few times but our later poll about how often to post were contradicting this. So, unfortunately, we will not be adjusting this.

We’re sorry you feel that way. We always put it in the tags, just in front of the source. We are more of a mod-based blog rather than a submission-based blog. Anyone is welcome to submit, but about 98% of our posts are created by our mods.

How often should we post?

We got a lot of variety here. Some say once a day (which is how often we currently post) was ideal. Others put stuff like...

“I wouldnt mind my entire blog just being filled with your posts.”

While Once A Day is the most voted for, the rest of the options put together, which we’ll name Two or More Times a Day, do win overall. Since we have one new post followed by a reblog, we’ll compromise by posting two times a day, but with one new post a day (the second being a reblog).

In UTC, what times do you prefer us posting?

As expected, not many people cared. But two people felt very strongly and voted for 12am, 1am, and 6pm UTC. So, we’ll consider that.

What characters, relationships, universes, etc. would you like to see more represented in our posts?

We got a lot of responses here, primarily being more Wolfstar, Jily, and BFFs James and Sirius. We also got a lot saying we should post about Hinny, Romione, next gen, FBAWTFT, etc. in which I remind you that this is a Marauders blog.

We also got the hilarious response that said we should maybe post about the “merauders”. Well, we can certainly promise you that.

We also got a lot of people saying more McGonagall. That’s something we can definitely do.

Would you like to see more original quotes from us?

For the longest time, the option 50/50 was at exactly 50%. Kind of disappointed that is no longer, but the 25% option is at 25%, so that’s something. Anyway, we’ll aim for 50/50.

What else would you like to see us post?

This was one of the results that will make the biggest change to the blog. People seem to really love these ideas. So expect...

Marauder Mondays! Every Monday we’ll have Marauder Monday, where we’ll answer asks, reblog posts, and have a party! Probably when we’ll post the “extra” posts, like our GIFs, graphics, aesthetics, videos, etc.

How would you feel if we did sponsored posts?

Combined, it seems like ~75% of those who took the survey are good with sponsored posts.

These results honestly surprised us. We’ve gotten a lot of offers of sponsorships in the past but have always denied them because we didn’t know how our followers would feel. We probably won’t do this in the near future, but it’s an option.

What kind of projects would you like to see us host?

We got so many people suggesting merch. Shirts, stickers, pins, other merch... So we’ll keep that in mind! We’d love some Marauders shirts ourselves.
