I’m never going to get over my hc that James Peter and Barty were all really close as kids, but specifically James and Barty. They were both chaotic and energetic, Barty loved Effie and Monty and he spent as much time as he could at the Potter’s. Then James went off to Hogwarts and met Sirius, barely wrote to Barty the whole year, and then got home only to spend the whole summer talking about his new friends. Barty, who had just spent the last several months either being yelled at by his father or completely ignored without his only friends was, understandably, pissed. But he was still holding out hope. When he gets to Hogwarts he ends up in Ravenclaw and quickly discovers James has no room for him in his exciting new life. So when Barty first meets Sirius’ little brother he hates his guts, until he realizes Regulus is just like him, he was abandoned too.

Barty: I’m just realising that you and I are actually quite similar

James: I can’t believe you just say that.. that’s so mean..

"Oi, Potter!" Barty hollered jovially down the corridor. James sighed. He really didn't want to deal with him right now, not after everything he just heard from a group of seventh-year Slytherins. He knew Regulus could take care of himself, but that didn't stop the worry when James thought about him in the Dungeons, especially after he ran away from home. Ran away straight into James' arms at his parents' house. "I'm not in the mood, Barty," James said quietly when he got closer. "What's gotten into you? You're not normally this melancholy."

James peered over his shoulder for a second before he started moving forward again. "It's nothing. Don't worry about it." "Nope." Barty pulled him to a stop. "Not gonna happen. Tell me what's wrong," he remarked sternly before lowering his voice to a whisper. "Do we need to go to the room?" It took James longer than he would have liked to realise what Barty was asking. He shook his head before looking around and pulling him into an abandoned classroom. "No. It's got nothing to do with me. Not really." James sighed again before sitting on a desk. "I just heard something on my way back from meeting with Reg, and I'm trying not to turn around and beat their asses." "Ooo, who we beating up? It's been a minute since I've seen any action," Barty replied giddily, bouncing on his toes. James couldn't help but smile at his friend despite his anger from earlier. He shook his head in amusement before shoving Barty's shoulder lightly. "Nobody. I promised Reg that I wouldn't do anything." "Does it have to do with Reg?" Barty asked seriously. James nodded. "I can take care of whoever it is, if need be. I didn't promise him anything." "No, that's fine. It's just Snape and his cronies talking about how he ran away. I didn't hear what else they said, though. They put up a silencing charm right before I passed," James told him sullenly.

It was taking everything in him not to leave the classroom and hunt them down to demand they tell him what they said about his boyfriend. "Oh, is that all?" Barty laughed, waving James' concerns away. "You don't have to worry about Reg. He can take care of them if they try anything. I mean, have you seen his dagger collection?" "Well, yeah, but he'd have to get close to use them, even with his magic." "Not if he used his sword," Barty remarked nonchalantly.

James: Stop buying plastic skeletons for Halloween. It's terrible for the environment.

Barty: Yeah. Locally sourced, all-natural skeletons are much more environmentally friendly!

James: Yeah!

James: Wait what-

Barty: I've seen the way you look at Regulus, you are not that straight.

i don’t think you understand how much i love a friendship between remus and bipolar james potter. when talking about the headcanon of bipolar james the main thing is always james and barty becoming friends because barty is too. which i love as well, don’t get me wrong.

it once again sidelines the potential writers have with james and remus. because remus is a werewolf, he transforms into a creature against his will and he becomes something he’s not sure he can recognize.

james, like many people who are bipolar, sometimes feels like he loses control —especially when he’s experiencing a manic episode. sometimes he feels like the control has been ripped away from him by himself.

remus understands that. he understands how it feels to feel like you no longer have control of yourself. he understands feeling like that control is being stolen from you by yourself.

i love the dynamic between barty and james. i love the idea of them bonding and becoming friends and both being bipolar. i think it’s great and i love reading it and i love writing it. but barty isn’t the only one who can understand losing control.

There are things I know about Regulus that you couldn’t even fucking imagine. He’s been threw so much and I just… I’m not sure he can’t take anymore… I know he can’t think anymore.’’

James looks at Barty with undivided attention, pity and worry clear in his hazel eyes.

‘‘Take care of him for me, will you?’’

‘‘I will Barty. I swear. ‘’

Barty doubts he’s ever seen someone look as genuine. But just to make sure-

‘‘You better not fuck this up ‘cause I swear to god I’m ready to go pretty fucking low to defend Reg.’’ And James only nods, seemingly agreeing with the sentiment.

James: I think it's called sensory overload it's really common in people with anxiety

James: It can also be a result of sleep deprivation, stress, or even dehydration
