Vacuan Nights, Like Vacuan Days

They’re just so great together! I’d love for Jaune and Weiss to get a little downtime in Vacuo to live out a moment like this. They really deserve it, and I’d love to see Jaune’s guitar make a reappearance.

The comic here was inspired by u/Silverstar1243’s excellent piece of art, A Serenade Under the Moonlight. Send some love to them on their twitter, commission some art if you’re willing and able, they’ve made some great stuff.

You folks may have noticed I threw in a couple of references for those in the know; the Golden Oreos behind Yang (double stuffed, I might add) for the trio’s ship, Weiss liking it rough for Mallobaude’s great fic, and of course I made a whole theme around the Arabian Nights Disney song. A song, along with its Aladdin compatriots, which I spent the better part of a day finding covers for just to listen to on repeat while I worked.

This one’s now officially my longest comic project, with 14 panels, two over the past record since I added the White Knight kiss at the end. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Not sure I’d say it was more difficult than my Vanity of Vanities post, but for this one I actually knew how to use my editing software going into it (at least somewhat).

Put a lot of work into this one, been working on it on and off since February. Took a few breaks for vacation, to make my memorial post for Rooster Teeth, and another five meme edits or so, but I came back around to it. First half was pretty easy, relatively minor edits inserting characters into scenes and so on. The second half with Jaune and Weiss was tougher though, with color correcting, merging poses, redrawing features, drawing Jaune’s entire head to fix some lighting issues, etc. Really like how the edit to make Jaune strum his guitar turned out.

The time it took to make the whole comic got me down a little, until I did a bit of math. Including my side projects since starting this, all the scripting and editing and all, I’ve been pumping out a panel every two days. That seems pretty good to me, that kind of accomplishment makes me a little proud of myself.

Really need to get around to watching the second part of the Justice League Crossover movies. It’s got a few Vacuo scenes that might make things a little more authentic instead of me just using Saphron’s house and pretending it’s a suite in Vacuo. I do love taking yet more character stills from Jaune and friends experiencing deep trauma and turning it into something positive, been making that a bit of a personal habit. And I’ve got to say, the background for Jaune and Weiss’ scene is really beautiful, pulled it from when Sun and Neptune hear Ruby’s message about Salem. That’s just a really good shot all on its own, I even saved a copy for my computer’s wallpaper after editing out the two.

Posting a big RWBY White Knight edit, watching not one but two RWBY Beyond episodes, and all on the trail of the news that RWBY’s found partners that they’re negotiating with and that the creative team is expected to stay on. And I'm sipping bubble tea. Life is good.

Anyway, pardon the long write up. I’m invested in this one, and am quite pleased with how the comic turned out. I hope you all get a kick out of it as well!

My favourite thing EVER is the little sub fandom that’s currently all of my tiktok fyp of Peter Parker in Gotham.

Like- I could go on for hours about how amazing theses fics are, but even on a sentimental level it’s so fucking cool to see.

Spider-Man (and the MCU in general) was literally my entire childhood. Ultimate Spider-Man? Avengers Assemble? Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? Little six year old me was drawing fanart before I even knew what fanart WAS. Andrew Garfield? #1 Celebrity crush growing up. The Marvel Cinematic Universe? I have my walls covered in posters, my laptop wallpaper is that one Cap vs Thanos’ army scene from endgame and I have an infinity gauntlet lamp on my bedside table.

Recently though, like October 2022, I’ve been obsessed with the batfam and DC in general. Learning as much as I can about the comics, watching all the CW tv shows (including titans) and all the movies. Hell- I’ve been watching shows like Young Justice (which was another childhood show), Teen Titans (03) + the tie-in comics for both, the Justice League animated series, and so many other that I’m blanking on.

It’s so fucking cool to see people who love Spider-Man and Marvel find these fics and start asking how to get into DC and vice versa. Like- humans are so fucking cute man idk T°T

I literally never cared about the other Justice League characters, I'm solely a Jason Todd fan who happened to stumble upon some Batman stories and then Gotham stories.

Your art has me in a chokehold though, because Jason and Dick. Your Hal Jordan has me in a chokehold. Your art made me spend a night watching all of the Green Lantern movies I could possibly find. And then I saw your one Kyle Rayner art. It killed me. And now I'm trying to find out how the fuck I'm going to make sense of the Green Lantern comics to have more of them pretty green boys.

Marvel Vs. Dc

Since the incorporation of comics in their movies, Marvel and DC have always been rivals.  Although The Hulk was the first movie released by Marvel, it wasn’t until 2010 that Iron Man    was released under the newly formed ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’. In 2013 their counterpart, the DC Universe released The Man of Steel. In terms of their rivalry, it’s apparent that the MCU has the hearts of their viewers. The MCU builds storylines for its characters through their great allocation of screen time between them. Without major discrepancies in screen time, it allows for a better connection between viewer and character. On the other hand, DC struggles significantly to put even their biggest hitters on the main screen. Superman, one of their strongest heroes, only has 16 minutes of screen time. This is a huge problem when trying to draw viewers to watch your arguably most famous character. For example, with a budget of around $300,000,000 Justice League only brought in roughly $657,000,000 while their counterpart quintupled their investment bringing in nearly $645,000,000 from Thor: The Dark World, which is widely considered to be their worst film Marvel continues to perfect the continuity within their stories (Box Office Mojo).

However, DC isn’t doing as great of a job with linking the stories from their different shows and movies. Marvel has incorporated fan-favorite characters into successful spinoff tv shows. Wanda Vision was a tremendous success with nothing but praise coming from fans. Meanwhile, DC continues to implement Tv shows with no correlation to the movies. For instance, The Flash contains one of DC’s most loved characters, but his storyline in the show exists in a universe parallel to that of DC’s movie under the same title. Many DC fans decide not to watch the shows because they do not feel any commitment to characters who will not contain any significance in their mainstream movies. Marvel continuously shows their dedication to providing quality entertainment through their television series and cinematics, even with nearly even budgets, DC cannot seem to compete. The DCEU failed and was forced to rebrand under the moniker DCU, and through consistently inconsistent films the future of their franchise is questionable.
