HELLO i LOVE dog days and i wondered if you'd share with us anything about your writing process/experience! particularly since it was for a trope you hate? <3

Hello Lovely Em! I'm so glad you liked it, honestly I was so worried when I posted it because it's such a new trope for me 🥴

Putting most of it under the cut because I did my fave thing and got into a bit of a ramble and it's spoilery lol

I didn't know where to start tbh and ended up taking inspiration from our other fave collective trope- hidden omega.

Daniel being a golden retriever was the first idea I had, that felt like a no brainier. I didn't even consider like Australian Shepherds or any other breed.

I wrote it all in one go like the day I claimed the trope...then I just like tagged it for editing and.. left it alone for three weeks lmao. Which worked because I added more when I was editing.

In my vague 'outline' I wanted them to get together during the confrontation scene when Daniel was sick. And he would sneeze and transform again and Max would kiss him on the snout. Daniel was supposed to be the one confessing. But when I was writing it, Daniel was absolutely not going for that 🤣

Max is hurt and betrayed that daniel never trusted him to tell him and that he didnt even try after everything and daniel eventually confesses and says he was trying to protect himself ‘From what?’ ‘You’ ‘Me?’ ‘I love you…and i know you don’t feel the same and i’m ok with it. Honestly.’ ‘What? Daniel–’ ‘Its ok Max. im sorry i like… i should have told you. Im sorry i didnt. I was afraid to make it awkward. But i did that anyway. I’m gonna go.’ “Daniel i love you too’ “You don’t have to–’ “You are so silly. I love you, i have for years. Ask charles.” “Max?” “Im going to kiss you now.” “Ok.” They kiss. Daniel pulls back and sneeze and turns into a dog. Max laughs at him and kisses his snout

All in all this was a fun trope to explore, a wonderful situation to put our boys in. They have lots of cuddles now at home and Daniel gets Lando to spill the beans on him and Martin and Max only knew cause he caught them making out or something. 🤣🤣🤣

It was a quiet night with you and Astarion, one which was spent with a couple of bottles of wine and the occasional silent laughter. All but him and you were awake at this time, bickering and bantering as the alcohol slowly sank in.

It started off with his usual snarky remarks in regards to your companions (Gale), then about the various foes you've both slayed and how they were absolutely hideous. Oh, and how he nearly broke a nail. He’s devastated.

Even so, the both of you were content with each other’s presence. a sudden warmth filling his otherwise undead heart.

Though he didn't admit it out loud just yet, he had never felt more alive in his life. Every moment he spent with you was making up for all the years of suffering he had been out through.

Who knew that one quiet night alone by the campfire could make him feel… hopeful. Hopeful that whatever you both may face, he wouldn't have to stand alone in fear. He has you.

And just when he thought the moment was right. Just when he thought he could finally lean in for the sweet kiss he’d finally come to initiate himself, that was when you both heard a sudden chirp.

The face he made when he suddenly saw his midnight snack the owlbear cub nudging against you was priceless, he couldn't decide whether he wanted to curse it or awe at the poor thing.

I mean. It was an adorable sight. But gods damnit this was supposed to be his moment! Nevertheless, he settled with cuddling both you and the owlbear (to his reluctance, he's still quite bitter about it.)

“Well hello there little one! I wasn't particularly expecting to have another join such a special night but how can I to turn away this fuzzy friend of ours? Perhaps I could put on another light show! Dedicated to the both of you this time. How does that sound?”

He was in the midst of conjuring a few light spells here and there as you two nuzzled up together, giving you a tiny little light show all for you.

He simply adored the twinkle in your eyes every time he began to show a few magic tricks here and there, anything to make you smile of course.

This man would light up the sky with the most brilliant of stars for you, but trust and believe that above all the comets and moons above, you will always be the most radiant thing he could have ever admired.

He probably would have tried to teach you a simple trick or two (assuming you aren't already a knowledgeable wizard such as himself), so both of you could light up the sky together.

He could have written a hundred love letters all in your name right then and there and still, each word could never have captured just how deeply he treasures you.

All his time studying and channeling the weave in all of its forms and yet all of the comforts and powers it may hold could never compare to the ultimate bliss he feels when he's with you.

He was a mere second from pulling you closer, a tiny inch closer from finally pressing a sweetened kiss against those spellbinding lips of yours, and he would have gotten it if it weren't for the damn owlbear pouncing atop him.

He nearly screamed He was all so good at pretending not to be startled. Despite the interruption, he could hardly remain upset for long, not when the cub was this adorable! However, he still managed to wriggle a quick kiss against the corners of your lips before you eagerly brought the owlbear closer to the both of you.

He was perfectly content with sharing you with the cute little thing, both of you felt so warm, and if he could, he’d be sleeping right then and there.

He did in fact fall asleep.

“Oh! Well, won't you look at that! Perhaps our furry little companion would love a dance lesson of his own? No? Ha! Cuddling it is then, come here! Both of you! Nothing but another sweet thing to brighten up the mood.”

He had spent most of the night dancing away with you in his arms. In the bright glowing moonlight you looked absolutely stunning in ways dreams of his own could never compare.

While he wished for this intimate dance of yours to go on for longer, he was perfectly happy with cuddling up next to you too.

Amidst the silence of the night, he would whisper every sweet little thing he's come to adore about you, describing you in ways that could have made your heart swoon again and again.

You’d always find your own hand interlocked with his as if your hands were the only things he’d ever want to hold onto. His touch was always soft, no matter how smooth or calloused your own hands may be, he treated them as if they were the most fragile thing on earth.

The one thing that would shatter him completely is if, in the midst of cuddling, you decided to gently caress his horns or the ridges on his skin, kissing them would only take the words out of his lips. His heart is wholly yours, he couldn't ask for anything more!

If he could, he’d hum a soft tune, lulling you both into a peaceful rest where for just this night and hopefully many more, you both can be lost in a calming peace.

Everything seemed perfect, specifically the perfect time to finally plant a soft kiss against your lips. A kiss he knew would light his heart ablaze and scorch him completely, body and soul- but then he heard a soft little chirp.

He felt no bitterness at all the moment he saw those wide beady eyes of the camp’s lovely little owlcub stumble along to cuddle with you both. In fact, he practically lit up! He was already scooping up the damn thing as if it was his own child, already pulling the sweet cub into a hug.

The kisses he was going to give to you were given to the little bundle of joy, but don't worry! He does have some left reserved just for you.

“Hm, as they say, the more the merrier. Who am I to exclude one of nature’s own from a well-needed embrace. Isn't that right, my heart? Besides, the little one is far too adorable for me to simply ignore.”

He was already practically bear-hugging you from behind, capturing you in his arms so it was a tad bit difficult to escape. Though you could tell he was being as gentle as possible, a single tug and he’d let go of you if you so wished.

His head was buried against the crook of your neck, taking in your scent which he had come to grow absolutely obsessed with. There was always something about the way you smelled that made him all the more enchanted by you.

He wouldn’t say much, not when he was this relaxed, the sounds of nature around you both were enough to fill the silence.

You could tell that he was holding back, his hands trying their hardest to remain where they were rather than completely traveling all over your body. As much as he was able to hold himself back, it was always incredibly difficult to do so.

With your permission, his hands would go everywhere, worshipping each part of you as if you were a true deity. One that he was helplessly bewitched by.

There would be a subtle twitch from his fingers each time he touched another part of your body, almost as if he was resisting to urge to go further but he remained behaved. He would save the far more intimate nights for another day as this was supposed to be something far sweeter.

However, if you begin to touch him back? He’d be on the verge of losing himself entirely. Perhaps even a soft warning would slip out of his lips, attempting to both calm himself and stop you from pressing even further less this was what you truly wanted.

In the middle of all his resistance, he’d eventually lose control, his body once more transforming into a bear just as he always does when things became far too overwhelming for your sweet Druid, it was only the sound of a tiny chirp that managed to bring him back to his senses.

He’d calm down the moment he made eye contact with the owlbear cub, his bear form smiling down at the little creature as if he was truly pleased to see the small creature. What was going to be a rather intimate long night between you two soon became a happy little snuggle pile with you, bear Halsin, and the lovely owlbear cub.

An absolutely gorgeous story of learning to love yourself, even when you feel like you don't fit in & that you grew up wrong. I'm so happy to have gotten to bind this mammoth work for Sabre & as a gift exchange for @mourningmountainsbindery (who bound me this beautiful copy of Astolat's Let the River Run—JUST LOOK AT THAT COVER!).

Also to anyone who has @ed me lately (looking at u, em @powerful-owl & tacky @tackytigerfic particularly) & I've been derelict in responding, here is WHY.

This has been the longest binding project I've undertaken, both in page count and in time. My original message to Sabre was on March 16th—can't decide if I want to use the laughing or crying emoji here—and the colophon says I made the book in April 2023 (which was when I started typesetting, maybe). I had been randomly perusing dying videos on Youtube in bed on a Saturday morning, as one does, and came across a video showing how to spiral tie-dye. I IMMEDIATELY had a design premonition of the full design for this fic as a two-volume set, planted into my brain wholesale by the binding gods. I learned many new techniques throughout the process (edge painting, edge trimming/sanding, tie-dying/dyepainting, embroidery, typesetting meta from tumblr which copy-pastes with the worst goddamn formatting in the world, kill me now). Overall, alternately extremely painful & wonderful, and I'm extremely proud of this set.

Design-wise, I went whole-hog with the scifi stars theme. Endpapers are recolored versions of the star charts from the Apollo 11 mission:

Celestial Navigation is also INCREDIBLY popular, and Sabre has been incredibly generous answering asks on her tumblr + writing additional one-shots in the universe. There is also a veritable volume of fanart. I was so inspired by seeing @robins-egg-bindery copy of ********, with its appendix of fanart & meta, that I promptly copied them.

Lastly, I love how @clovenhoofbindery includes their 'Illustrator mess' with their bind posts, as a behind-the-scenes look into the wild process of designing these books. I don't actually have an Illustrator mess for this book (the chapter titles & title page pretty much came in one take), but I do have a DYING MESS. It took me sososo many tries to figure out how to get the dye to look how I imagined in my head. I ended up 'dye painting' instead of tie-dying in the end, but my inbox is always open to chat hand-dying/tie-dying/dyepainting (or what I did differently between any of these attempts). Numbers are the dying attempt.

Last process shot: I hand-dyed variegated linen thread to match the colors of the bind, which ends up being incredibly difficult to see on the finished bind, but was super fun while I was sewing!

Endpapers: recolored versions of the star chart used by Michael Collins during the Apollo 11 mission (archived at The Smithsonian)

Bookcloth: dyed using Dharma Trading Procion Fiber-Reactive Dyes

Metallic embroidery thread: Cosmo Nishikiito thread

I would dye for this embroidery thread. It is LIGHT YEARS better than the classic metallic embroidery thread from DMC: much easier to work with & much more sparkly. Literally so eye-catching; it truly doesn't translate to photos.

Paint for edges: Daniel Smith watercolor tubes in Iridescent Sunstone and Prussian Blue

Note: these are GORGEOUS watercolors. The color is so saturated and strong and beautiful BUT I don't think I'd recommend watercolors for edge painting. They went on very differently depending on the grit of the sandpaper I used for the edges + they sometimes bled into the pages + they had to be set with fixative, which then stuck the pages together.

Ramadan Headcanons with the Third Years

Trey was always busy as Vice Dorm leader for Heartslabyul. He would always make you baked goods or send you any leftover treats for you to eat. You would visit him when he would bake, waving away any concerns about you being around food. In fact, his calm demeanor and the smell of fresh baked goods relaxed you enough to want to take a nap.

Cater started a countdown calendar again this year on Magicam. You and him would make little challenges to compete each day. One day, you both spent time decorating each other’s nails. He had found a water permeable nail polish that you both used on each other.

Leona would make comments how your stomach growling could compare to a small lion cub. You would glare at him and he would laugh. He would pat your head before dragging you back to his dorm. At least there, you will be safe and it will quiet enough for you to relax. No headmaster would dare annoy you in his dorm.

Vil knew how hard it was for you during this time of the month, but he also emphasized that you need to take extra care of yourself. He would provide skin care products that would revitalize you. Don’t be surprised, if on days you are especially tired, you are invited over and he would be applying a face mask on you.

Rook loved to trail after you…no, he wasn’t hunting you per se. But there was beauty in how you would change as the month went on. Seeing the struggle and determination was a sight all on its own. Plus, anyone who would dare harm you would have to go through him.

Idia was a night owl that you could always depend on. He would have snacks you were free to have whenever you came to his room. If you needed any distractions, well, he had the power of the internet at his fingertips.

Malleus and you would continue your midnight walks. Though it wouldn’t be as long, him wanting to make sure you were well rested. You would invite him over to make ice cream sandwiches. He loved the Kulfi you made last year, and this year you two decided to try out different combinations, hopefully this never reaches Lilia’s ears. Malleus would also offer to take you to his home. If he understood it correctly, you only had to fast during sunrise. Well, Briar Valley has short days, surely it would be easier for you to fast at his homeland?

Lilia would show up and listen to your prayers. He would take the time to learn everything you knew. He loved learning and traveling. Won’t you honor him by learning yours? After all, a old man can learn new tricks. On days you can rest well, he would sing you softly to sleep.

“You think he’s lost without me?” It hardly seems like it. It feels more like they both run and hide every chance they get. Anything that might make them look each other in the eyes has to be avoided at all costs. 

“I’ve seen it. More than once in fact. The thought of losing you destroys him in a way that doesn’t happen with anyone else. It’s why other relationships are safer. They’re easier to look at. Easier to be in. Other people don’t make him hurt in that terrifying, shattering, life-altering, ‘I lose you and I’ll never recover’ kind of way. If they left him, he would be upset. But he wouldn’t be wrecked the way he would be if he lost you.” Bobby tips his head and turns toward him. “And I think— after he died— I think that was true for you, too. Wasn’t it?”

Eddie swallows and glances anywhere but at his passenger side, and doesn’t know how to say anything. But doesn’t he have to? He can’t bottle it up and explode. He can’t deny it when Bobby already knows. He would have to know. 

Eddie takes a deep breath, the whole world might quake and tremble but it would be no different than how he forces the words out, “I feel like I died, too. My heart stopped when his did. And it doesn’t feel like it’s beating anymore. I lost him and I didn’t get him back. I don’t know what to do with that. I don’t know why I feel like this. Or why I can’t get past it. It’s been— it’s been a while. A lot of months, more than half a year since it happened. I shouldn’t feel like this.”

“Eddie, there’s no time limit on grieving. The more it means, the more it hurts.”

Yeah. Yeah, he knows that. God, does he know that. 

“Have you told him this? Have you talked to him about what it was like for you?” 

“No. I can’t put that on him. That storm we had not too long ago, the one that knocked out our power? I about had a whole breakdown over it. That was bad enough. He had to get me through that. I didn’t even realize how fucked up I was until it was happening and then— and then the only thing that got me out of it was listening to his heartbeat. Knowing he was alive and safe.”

And fuck, he did not mean to say all of that. Or any of it. Listening to someone’s heartbeat in the middle of a storm while not on the job using a stethoscope doesn’t conjure visions of professional or distant. 

Bobby shakes his head. “You don’t need to apologize for that. You don’t need to feel guilty. I’m sure Buck was happy to offer. That’s what it means to be partners.”

my s/i, Jeff hyena, is a fanon (obviously) supporting role in their takedown of Genron, who they encounter as an exotic caged pet in the Executive area. speaks English like Redmond, inexplicably British like Lincoln the owl 😭 big appetite and a big laugh. a little intimidating to smaller animals but ultimately is a big goofball with strong morals who wants nothing more than to take down Mann with them!!

Spanx is immediately stupid smitten with him and his cheery attitude and his powerful jaws that help them take down staff, Jeff requiting this for his tweaked out quirky personality and rough determination to the cause. despite Spanx being mute, Jeff seems to understand him entirely and extremely quickly. Redmond is highly defensive and even protective of Spanx at first (i also ship Spanx and Redmond quite a lot, this is somewhat of a poly even if i don't consider Redmond an f/o of mine). Red doesn't trust that Jeff isn't trying to eat them, but after gaining their trust through aiding in kick assery throughout Exec, Redmond slowly warms up to Jeff and begins to understand Spanx's affections for him. while Jeff's love is mostly requited towards Spanx, there is some mutual warmth and affection between the three of them, even if Redmond's is expectedly full of sarcasm and dryness and cringe at Spanx and Jeff's mushy PDA that he sometimes gets dragged into - both emotionally, and physically whilst still in the chains lol :')

to explain the poly, Spanx has both Redmond and Jeff as partners. Redmond and Jeff don't consider each other partners persey but still appreciate each other and are close 🫶
