kaiser puts his tattooed hand anywhere on you (your neck especially) and takes pics of it to make it his lockscreen so that everyone can see (<- his own way of paying u back for the marks you left on his neck)
um excuseme??? why are u on my ass??? coming to MY HOUSE and ATTACKING me!??!!!?! do i need to get a restraining order against you two huh is that it....... big sigh uhhh whatever notes: michael kaiser x gn! reader. suggestive content, mdni. what rye has said ig.. i elaborated a little
Michael Kaiser is a man who knows best to get under someone's skin. From countless interactions you've observed over the time be it during matches or behind the scenes- that, you're certain.
And from experience too, much to your chagrin.
A pain in the ass and a walking migraine inducing component as he may be, there is something to him that you always find yourself in the same room, drawn to your demise- not like a moth, no, you'd like to hold hope that whatever runs between the two of you isn't somthing as blinding and vulnerable as that- but you cannot deny there is still an attraction none the less.
Analytical and always knowing where to hit where it hurts most, everything he does is with a purpose. Be it the way he he behaves, speaks with people, which name he uses, whether he gives in to their desperation for a physical connection or remain a cold composure. This, of course, ends with an extremely touchy Kaiser on your side that you've learnt to make peace and live with.
It's almost depressing to think about it, really. How your resolve couldnt hold out any longer and you admited defeat on this front. But what's to follow is somewhat nice, you try to comfort himself. Always a hand around your waist, on your thigh, fingers intervining with yours-- a constant reminder that he is right besides you and he'll never leave you.
Other behaviours though, begin to present after a while- a recent development, you write them off as. Now his hands find your shoulders, kneading into your skin like you're dough for him to shape, placed on your abdomen and rubbing gentle circles, a finger at the nape of your neck, playing with the sensitive skin there; the last one he seems to favor more than the rest. You don't really alert to the action until you catch sight of his phone one day.
For someone who likes to show off, it hadn't even fazed you one bit when you saw a photo album dedicated to the two of you that's not quite safe for public eye. This is Kaiser after all, every oddity he seems to display soon become the new default in your mind- ruining your experience of the world.
So when your thumb scrolls down the numerous photos you don't even recall being taken- mostly without either of your faces but his hand and parts of your body as clear as day- you cannot even find it in you to react.
Your finger comes to a stop as you open a photo in particular. His hand wrapped around your neck, thumb pressing right below your carotis artery, from his rough hold parts of your skin already flushed and his index seeming to be lightly trailing your collarbones with his middle finger to keep company. As you stare at the photograph, you can feel his hand on you again, his digits dancing on your neck, moving up and down slowly, making sure to idle and stroke the areas where you strongly react. Chuckling at the sounds and twitches you make whenever he pinches and presses against a sensitive spot. You'd think maybe this is his payback, or just a preliminary to it.
You've got to admit, from an artist viewpoint, the photos do look.. pleasing to the eye. An aesthetic sense to them, the colorful dark lightning only adding to the atmosphere.
With a sudden shake of your hand, you close the app and put down his phone in a rush but his laughter reaches you before. "What were you staring at so intensely, hm? Found something you like?"

Do you have headcanons for your tadc irl au?
YES! Bunches!!
I’ll include the ones that actually affect the story & character dynamics:
Gangle has autism
This is connected to her dependency on her literal mask/glasses (the glasses help with avoiding eye contact), and she can only be in that “Comedy Mask” mode for a determined amount of time before she gets overwhelmed and exhausted. Her understanding of how socializing/maintaining relationships works is skewed
Gangle has Clinical Depression
This one’s a bit more obvious lol, but with my interpretation she suffers from Depression in a way that’s also reflected in her physical health, hence why she looks unkempt and is missing some teeth due to not having the strength/reason to take care of herself. This, as well as her autism, is the main component as to why she’s practically a Hikikomori
Pomni is ‘Pigeon-Toed’
This is more of an obscure one, but I’ve noticed that in the show Pomni’s neutral stance has her legs facing inward, similar to someone who has Femoral Anteversion (common in children, but can last til adulthood in some cases). This in turn alters her gait a little bit, and sometimes her joints flare up
Pomni is a workaholic
…Not because she wants to be, but because she feels like she has to be. Pomni is caught up in that mindset where she has to stay up all night to finish fixing someone else’s mistakes in their paperwork because it’ll make everyone’s jobs harder. She’s had little to no actual friends because of this, until she meets Gangle and Zooble!
Zooble is an artist
Zooble was, canonically, a tattoo artist once, and they are in my au Pre-Circus! They enjoy the visual arts but also musical arts too, and this is how they met Gangle online through an art forum years and years ago
Zooble is an Empath
Like, a legit one, and the reason they have a somewhat hard exterior is because they feel others very strongly and it can actually begin to stress them out

I would like to point out how clearly remake shows us that Ellen is not satisfied with Thomas sexually because their sex scene which is shot to be not sexy on purpose clearly, also shows us that when Thomas takes her Ellen thinks and talks about Orlok and wants Thomas to be like Orlok aka kiss her heart. But he can’t. He can’t give her what she wants.
^^^^ YES this aspect is incredibly prominent, and a significant component of the disconnect in Ellen's marriage to Thomas! There's a few intersecting issues there, but they all do come down to the same thing. Ellen isn't satisfied, because Thomas is never willing to actually take her desires and preferences into account when they are together.
It's shown numerous times that, in a sexual context, Ellen wants to be worshipped. She has a dominant and possessive streak, she is extremely sensual, and these elements are essential to her pleasure. They also intersect with her desire to be seen and recognized for who she is, as well to be given the respect she is so consistently denied. These desires are all strongly discouraged - both in her time, and sometimes in ours. As a woman, she is expected to be deferring; and chaste, except for when her husband chooses. Her opinions and complexity are also never really considered; which is not unexpected, of course. Ellen is a Tragic Madwoman - it's Ophelia, all over again. If you recall, when Hamlet appears mad, the people around him assume there is more to it than his father's death; but when Ophelia does, everybody chalks it up to her father's murder, and nothing else. With all that said, what I personally love about Ellen is that, despite whatever shame she might feel around the subject, or her efforts to be proper, she always knows exactly what she wants. In part, that's what makes her married life so tragic - she keeps reaching out to Thomas, offering him these vulnerable aspects of herself, as well as an opportunity to understand her and connect with her; and she is met with one rejection after another. Still, she cannot ignore what she is - and her choosing Orlok in the end is symbolic of her deciding to "deceive" herself no longer.
Thomas, by contrast, is playing mind games with himself. In theory, he could be submissive. If he indulged that potential within himself, it could be a way for them to connect - considering Ellen's inclinations; however, he sees this aspect of himself as weak, emasculating, shameful, and thus never explores it - except by force, as per the usual gothic exploration of shame/desire, which muddles the waters in that regard. Much of the way he treats Ellen is rooted in the patriarchal rules he cannot bring himself to abandon, since doing so threatens his own sense of masculinity - and, by extension, dignity and self-worth. As such, whenever faced with a situation that might prompt him to be soft, emotional, or worshipful of her, he overcorrects instead. He is afraid of Ellen's perceived "abnormality" because of what it might mean for him. Additionally, he is fairly obviously queercoded, in a classic vampire-genre way; which, in my opinion, is yet another reason they just don't quite seem to click. Whatever he might want out of a sexual relationship, he doesn't really want it with Ellen - and, of course, given his homophobic society, that just piles on more shame, emasculation, and repression. This is why, after their one depicted sexual scene, when she laments her "uncleanliness," he cannot reassure her, no matter how he tries. He cannot accept the "abnormal" aspects of her, because the way he sees her is always affected by the way he sees himself - through a lens of misogyny, queerphobia, and horror. His care for her is therefore largely superficial; he does not know her.
All in all, I am obsessed with this aspect of their failmarriage. They're both so lonely and so desperate for companionship; but neither of them is getting what they want. Not with each other.

could you possibly coin something similar to MIID except instead of it being one's reflection, it's with the image of a character they strongly identify with or as (whether in an alterhuman way, a system way, or a transid/cis id way)
》 @radically-katrielle
CHARACTER AFFINITY IDENTITY DISORDER
— What is it ?
Character Affinity Identity Disorder (CAID) is a condition where an individual strongly identifies with a specific character's portrait, to the point where their sense of self becomes deeply intertwined with that character’s traits or persona. This can lead to emotional overlap, confusion about personal identity, and difficulty functioning outside of the character, often causing distress or anxiety when not embodying them .
— Symptom List :
Intense Identification : A persistent and overwhelming sense of self being tied to a specific character's portrait, to the point where their traits, appearance, or life experiences feel deeply aligned with the individual’s own identity . Emotional Portrait Attachment : A strong, almost uncontrollable urge to look at images or representations of the character, often for reassurance, comfort, or to reinforce the identity connection . Inconsistent Self-Perception : Shifts in self-perception, where the individual may struggle to define who they are outside of the character, feeling lost when not expressing or identifying as them . Dysphoria or Anxiety : Feelings of discomfort or distress when unable to embody or express the character, leading to anxiety or a sense of disconnection from one’s own identity . Altered Social Interactions : Difficulty engaging in social environments as their “real” self, preferring to present or embody the character’s traits or persona in interactions .
— Treatment ?
Unlike MIID , CAID isn't as easily treatable .
While potentially addressed with some therapeutic methods, may be less straightforward to treat due to the deeply ingrained nature of the identity attachment to the character. Unlike MIID, which might respond well to behavioral therapies that help individuals dissociate from their reflections, CAID may involve more complex layers of identity formation, possibly including dissociation or a strong alterhuman, system, or trans/cis identity component. In cases where CAID is more about a deeply rooted sense of self, treatment may be longer-term or focus on integration techniques that help the person understand and navigate their identity without fully relying on the character.

culture courting! ooc. don’t kill me pls.
❪ ENMA YUUKEN .ᐟ ❫ 𓍢ִ໋🤍
I. The word "shy" is often used to describe Japanese individuals, and this perception may stem from their traditional cultural practices. Those unfamiliar with Japanese customs might find the Japanese way of life to be rather restrained and conservative, with a strict moral code that could be seen as somewhat antiquated to outsiders. This cultural backdrop contributes to the characterization of Japanese people as being shy and reserved.
II. Yuuken is not dissimilar from others in his nervousness when it comes to courting you. He hesitates to make any significant moves, fearing to cause you discomfort, as he finds the prospect unbearable. Doing so would make him a disappointment to his ancestors, a situation he strives to avoid at all costs. Yuuken's nervous demeanor can be seen as a result of his concern for your comfort and the fear of causing any distress or unease. His wariness is motivated by a deep sense of responsibility to uphold his family's honor and avoid bringing shame upon his ancestors. This trepidation is a testament to his respect for cultural norms and his desire to approach the relationship with sensitivity and consideration.
III. Yuuken adheres to the cultural teachings that discourage excessive public displays of intimacy, as this behavior is deemed improper within Japanese society. Although it is generally frowned upon, those who witness such acts tend to remain polite and look away, attributing the lack of proper understanding to the situation. Despite this, Yuuken is influenced by his upbringing and mentality as a Japanese guy, and continues to follow the traditional standards of courtship while navigating the boundaries of public display of affection.
IV. Yuuken strongly believes that demonstrating genuine care and love to someone special involves expressing it through tangible actions and deeds. Spending quality time together, displaying unwavering support for one another's aspirations, and being unafraid to voice heartfelt sentiments and display affection are all crucial components of his approach to cultivating a meaningful connection. Furthermore, he acknowledges that being open-minded, adaptable, and flexible is essential since every individual is unique and has distinct needs, preferences, and expectations. Ultimately, Yuuken's strategy to court someone revolves around authentically conveying affection through his words, body language, and actions.
V. Japanese youth are raised with the principle of respecting their elders, which can contribute to their shyness and difficulty in expressing their feelings, particularly when it comes to matters of love. The strong emphasis on collectivism and group dynamics further reinforces this behavior, as younger individuals may find comfort in acting as part of a group rather than expressing their emotions individually. Consequently, Yuuken may require some external encouragement, such as moral support or a nudge to bolster his confidence, in order to openly declare his love for someone.
VI. Younger individuals in Japan, who are too shy to initiate a date with someone they like, often turn to a popular dating strategy known as "gokon" (合コン) or "group date." In this setup, the male typically invites his male friends, such as Ace and Deuce, and you invites your own companions. Ideally, there is an equal number of his friends and your friends participants, fostering a more relaxed and inclusive atmosphere, thereby minimizing any potential awkwardness or feelings of being left out.
VII. It is highly probable that Ace and Deuce will tease Yuuken, adding a touch of jest to the situation. Furthermore, there is the possibility that you may lack companions to enlist for their involvement in the group date. In light of these circumstances, Yuuken is likely to instead choose to express his love through actions. In Japanese culture, words of endearment hold little value without corresponding behaviors that genuinely reflect those sentiments. Therefore, he may demonstrate his affection by praising your qualities, sending heartfelt messages, or offering thoughtful gifts.
VIII. Despite the differences in expressing love between Japanese culture and the Western world, the underlying foundations share a common understanding. Both cultures recognize that love is nurtured and reinforced through consistent everyday actions over time. The sentiments themselves are universal, but the Japanese perspective emphasizes the power of actions over words in demonstrating affection. This nuanced difference in expression highlights the significance of tangible actions in strengthening and nourishing the bond of love in Japanese culture.
The courtship rituals in the Queendom of Roses would undoubtedly be distinctive, imaginative, and unconventional. The whimsical and imaginative atmosphere of this realm would lend itself to creative expressions of affection. As a result, each courtship encounter would be like a surprise, adding an element of spontenuity and uniqueness to the experience!
Courtship rituals can differ drastically between the various kingdoms within Wonderland, and the key to successfully courting a partner in this realm is to display confidence, imagination, and a touch of eccentricity. In the Queendom of Roses, unusual gestures and unconventional approaches are highly valued, so don’t be afraid to embrace your uniqueness. When searching for a suitor, seek someone who can handle your fiery demeanor and provide some intellectual stimulation as well. In the Queendom of Roses, partnerships are viewed as a delicate balance between power and wit. Once you find your ideal match, do not be hesitant to pursue them boldly.
The second step in the courtship process in the Queendom of Roses is crucial - the proposal! In this whimsical realm, a well-thought-out proposal typically goes beyond a simple "Will you marry me?" and is instead seen as an opportunity to showcase one's devotion, creativity, and unyielding loyalty. A truly successful proposal in the Queendom of Roses should demonstrate your ability to think outside the box, surprising and delighting your partner with a unique and memorable proposal!
The proposal, in the Queendom of Roses, is an unparalleled affair. Rather than a traditional approach on one knee, the suitor is more likely to orchestrate an extravagant and theatrical spectacle, featuring hidden riddles, intricate scavenger hunts, or even a thrilling escape from the Queen’s guards. It’s not merely about asking for their hand in marriage; it’s about demonstrating one’s willingness to go to any length and handle a dash of the Queendom of Roses brand of madness.
“what about dating?” Oh dear, you are quite impatient aren't you? Dating is the third step, dear. In the Queendom of Roses, dating isn't like those traditional candlelit dinners and hand-holding. No, dear, it's an intricate dance of wit, riddles, and games. Here, they believe the courtship period should be a time to test one's mental acuity, cunning, and ability to keep up with their maddening pace. So, when you begin to date in the Queendom of Roses, keep things lively. Forget about those romantic dinners and movies. How about a thrilling scavenger hunt across the kingdom instead? And instead of a romantic picnic, imagine a tea party with pastries that may or may not be laced with poisonous surprises. Remember, the key to a successful Queendom of Roses relationship is to never, ever get monotonous or dull.
In the realm of Queendom of Roses, the art of courting consists of a precarious equilibrium of allure and insanity. It would likely start with Yuuken sending enigmatic riddles and challenges to assess your shrewdness and ability to keep up with his erratic actions. Once he found a suitor he deemed worthy, he would plan a splendid exhibition of his affections. Perhaps a sumptuous feast where he would make a toast to your impending union, or a soiree filled with games meticulously designed to unveil the compatibility between you and him.
But beyond all that, he'd let his madness guide him. After all, what's courting without a bit of insanity?
❪ RIDDLE ROSEHEARTS .ᐟ ❫ 𓍢ִ໋❤️
I. Riddle would meticulously adhere to the courtship practices of the Queendom of Roses. He would generously bestow gifts and symbols of his affection upon his suitor, each more peculiar and unexpected than the previous. He would organize opulent festivities in their honor, complete with a plethora of whimsical and unforeseeable entertainment. Every moment spent together would become an exercise in preserving his reputation for being "mad" while simultaneously showing his loyalty. And as his suitor responds in kind, they would be accepting the challenge to match his madness, thereby proving themselves worthy of becoming his companion in love and insanity.
II. In this step, Riddle would keenly observe you, diligently studying your personality to ensure that it somewhat resonates with his. Bear in mind that the first step is to select someone who can endure your spirited nature and offer a healthy challenge in return. The Queendom of Roses firmly believes that a partnership should be a delicate balance of power and intellect. You might notice Riddle's gaze lingering on you for longer than others, causing you to wonder if you have accidentally broken a rule. However, fear not, for it's merely riddle meticulously searching for a flawless suitor, and he suspects that you may fit the bill!
III. The next stage, as viewed through Riddle's lens, holds great excitement. There is an opportunity to test your devotion and resilience in the face of his challenges. However, from your point of view, it may seem like he despises you! He propels you towards outlandish scenarios beyond your wildest dreams. He assigns you tasks with objectives that seem inexplicable or impossible to achieve. In addition, he exhibits increased harshness, even meting out punishments for minor transgressions. Confronting a shapeshifter is merely one of the many trials he presents. Every predicament is meticulously orchestrated to unveil your depth of dedication, loyalty, and ability to withstand. He Clearly, he doesn't want a submissive partner, but rather someone who can stand their ground and meet his challenges head-on. These tests are not just his way of having fun, but also an essential part of his evaluation process.
IV. After a week filled with various events and dramatic episodes, Riddle would finally assess that you possess the qualities he seeks in a suitor. He would then regard you with a look of satisfaction, and begin to become increasingly intimate with you. This housewarden can be quite perplexing, isn't he? The third step, dating, unfolds with him inviting you to extravagant parties and tea parties. These occasions are usually teeming with excessive activities and chaos. Riddle thrives in this constant whirlwind of nonsense, and follows rule three to the letter: never be bored. How does he manage to maintain this perpetually tumultuous lifestyle?
V. To sum it up, being courted by Riddle is an absolute whirlwind. It requires a healthy dose of creativity, innovative thinking, and a willingness to embrace the realm of pure insanity that defines the Queendom of Roses. Get ready for a relationship unlike any other!
❪ ACE TRAPPOLA .ᐟ ❫ 𓍢ִ໋❤️
I. RIDICULOUS I HATE HIM I I HOPE HE DIES
II. Don't worry about that. Based on his personality, there is a 50% probability that Ace would follow a more conventional approach in courting. However, due to his unique nature and desire to stand out, it's likely that he would incorporate his own creative flair into the courtship process, aiming to make the experience truly special and memorable for his chosen suitor.
III. The first step in Ace's plan to win your heart is to grab your attention. He might begin by presenting you with a small, eye-catching gift. Then, he'd gradually start to get closer to you, learning more about your interests and desires. He'd actively seek opportunities to spend time with you, whether in a group setting or one-on-1 scenarios. The amount of time spent together largely hinges on your level of interest in him. Ace would also become increasingly physical, if you're open to it, offering hugs and light teases as a way to express his feelings and possibly provoke a reaction from you.
IV. Once Ace has gotten to know you better, he'll take the initiative and make the first move. He understands that it's crucial for him to display his genuine interest as well; it can't always be a one-sided affair. With a clear understanding of you, he'll start flirting with you, but he won't be shy about it. He'll be upfront and bolder in his approach, wanting you to know exactly how he feels and hoping to ignite a reciprocal interest within you. He’d start by making subtle advancements, like touching your arm while talking or sitting next to you closer than usual. If you’re responsive, he may attempt to make more significant moves, like trying to hold your hand or find excuses to get into physical contact with you. Depending on your reaction, he might even lean closer to whisper flirtingly into your ear or surprise you by wrapping an arm around your waist.
VI. After the initial flirtation, Ace would transition to Step 2: making sure you understand your importance to him. He would demonstrate his care through small gestures such as checking in on you when you're feeling upset, offering comfort and reassurance. He would want to make sure you feel safe and confident in knowing that you could always count on him. In addition, he would shower you with a memorable time, taking you out for a wonderful date and treating you like royalty. During this time, he would also subtly highlight his strength and reliability, strengthening your connection. Once he feels comfortable enough with you, he’d start expressing his feelings more openly. He would become increasingly more touchy and flirtatious, he might even start calling you with endearling nicknames. He's not shy, so he’d probably just end up wrapping an arm around your waist without even realising it
V. Lastly, Ace would employ his favorite tactic: good-natured teasing. As a typical teenage boy, his pride is too great for straightforward confessions. He would tease you here and there, leaving you in a state of curiosity and wonder. And why does he do this? Simply because it's amusing to him. He knows that you never know what someone is going to say or reveal about themselves when they're in a more relaxed and playful mood, and teasing is the perfect tool. Have you ever heard of the phrase "pulling pigtails"? Ace's tactic isn't just a form of playful banter or a way to rile you up—it's a way for him to learn more about you. He's interested in seeing how you react to his teases and what kind of person you are. Teasing, in his mind, is a quick and easy way to get a glimpse into your true nature. It's a game he enjoys playing, and he hopes you'll play along. But be warned, his teasing can be quite relentless!
In the vast expanse of the Shaftlands, the courtship customs are influenced by the myriad cultures and climates found within its borders. Nevertheless, a common thread runs through all of them: a deep rooted appreciation for chivalry. Traditional values such as a gentlemanly demeanor and romantic gestures typically feature prominently in courtship rituals, with men expected to take the lead. As a first step, small tokens or gifts are often presented as symbols of affection or interest. These gifts can range from small trinkets or flowers to more meaningful tokens that reflect a deeper thought or understanding of the recipient's interests or personality. Such gestures serve as a way to express interest and begin the initial stages of courtship, with men often looking to impress and capture the attention of those they are courting.
Respect for the partner's parents or family, especially the elders, often plays a significant role in the Shaftlands courtship rituals. While the culture encourages independence and self-sufficiency from a young age, families hold great importance in the lives of Shaftland individuals. Once you're in a serious relationship with a Shaftlands partner, expect to spend a considerable amount of time with their parents, also known as the Schwiegereltern
The final step to a courtship in the Shaftlands is often spending quality time together through shared activities and conversations. However, it is worth noting that the Shaftlands are a vast country with diverse climates and many regions with distinct cultures. As a result, the specifics of the courtship process can vary greatly depending on the locale and cultural traditions. Some regions may place more emphasis on courtship rituals and symbols, while others may prioritize getting to know each other through shared experiences.
In Vil's country, courtship is approached gradually and thoughtfully. The good news is that there are no strict dating rules in the Shaftlands, making it a rather flexible environment for pursuing romantic connections. However, bear in mind a few key points when navigating the world of love in Shaftlands. Unlike the passionate and fervent dating culture in the Queendom of Roses and Sunset Savanna, Shaftlands individuals favor a more measured and rational approach to dating. Rather than fiery and intense encounters, initial dates and even a handful of subsequent dates are likely to be kept casual and focused on building a strong foundation of understanding between partners. Don’t expect the first date—or even the first several datesto have a strong romantic flair. Instead, the goal is to engage in relaxed, unpressured activities that allow you and your partner to grow closer on an emotional and intellectual level. This approach ensures that when and if the relationship moves towards a deeper commitment or the introduction of intimate elements, it will be based on a strong foundation of mutual respect and comprehension.
While casual dating may be the standard in the Shaftlands, it is generally assumed that both parties will not be seeing multiple individuals simultaneously. Engaging in such behavior is viewed as offensive and disrespectful unless both parties have explicitly agreed upon it from the onset. Monogamous relationships are the preferred and expected norm, and any deviation from this practice without clear agreement can lead to hurt feelings or broken trust.
The process of transitioning from casual dating to a serious relationship in the Shaftlands can be a gradual one, as rushing into committed partnerships is not a priority. Relationships here often progress at a more measured pace, developing slowly and naturally over time. Consequently, patience is key, and the dating period should be viewed as an opportunity to thoroughly get to know your partner and assess the compatibility of your connection. By taking the time to truly understand one another, you can ensure that when the decision to enter a committed relationship is made, it is done with confidence and clarity.
this is getting too long (°▽°)
❪ VIL SCHOENHEIT .ᐟ ❫ 𓍢ִ໋💜
I. If Vil were to court someone who holds a special fondness for nature, she might plan an outing to a lovely garden where they can bask in the beauty of the natural world together. On the other hand, if her suitor is artistic and values refined aesthetics, she might arrange a visit to an art gallery, where they can spend the day admiring the skill and beauty of the creative expression. In essence, Vil would tailor the first date to cater to her suitor's unique interests, creating a memorable experience that reflects their individual tastes and passions. In summary, Vil would take the time to understand her suitor's preferences and interests, and plan the first date accordingly. This could mean going on a nature walk in a beautiful garden for someone who appreciates the beauty of the outdoors, or exploring an art gallery and admiring the creative expressions for an artistic individual. By catering to her suitor's unique preferences, Vil would aim to create a memorable and enjoyable experience that sets the foundation for a meaningful connection.
II. Vil, being a busy individual, would approach the dating process with a deliberate and measured pace. She would carefully arrange dates during her free time, taking care to be on her best behavior and ensure that she presents herself in the best possible light. In the event that the initial date went well, as she is confident it would, she would plan additional dates but still maintain a slower pace. Vil has the habit of making her partners wait to assess their patience and level of effort. If she believes they are worthy, she will gradually open her heart more and more, eventually granting them the privilege of being considered hers. In essence, Vil is a person who holds high standards and values individuals who can demonstrate patience and dedication. She is not one to rush into relationships, but rather takes her time to evaluate her partners and their commitment. Only if someone can prove their worth and devotion would Vil consider letting them into her heart.
III. When it comes to your date with Vil, it is crucial to arrive on time. She values punctuality and expects her date to respect her time. However, in the event that an unexpected situation arises and you find yourself unable to make it at the agreed upon time, be sure to notify her promptly. Otherwise, she might perceive it as a lack of consideration for her schedule and effort. Showing up late without a valid reason can make you appear unreliable and disrespectful of Vil's time, so it's essential to be mindful of the agreed-upon time and plan your arrival accordingly. If an unforeseen circumstance arises, promptly communicate this to Vil and provide an explanation to ensure a smooth and respectful start to your date.
IV. Following a successful first date, Vil would move on to a second date and continue spending time with her suitor. However, it is important to note that she sets the pace and does not easily give herself to her partner. She wants them to prove their worth and seriousness by meeting her particular standards. During dates, Vil maintains her usual strict and composed demeanor, avoiding any signs of clinginess. She expects her suitor to respect her and show that they are not taking her for granted or assuming victory just because they have gone on a few dates. In order to win her heart completely, they still need to continue courting her. In short, despite going on multiple dates with her suitor, Vil will not immediately become overly affectionate or dependent on them. Instead, she expects them to continue courting and demonstrating their commitment and respect for her values and standards. She will not be easily won over and will remain discerning in her assessments of her partner’s intentions and dedication.
VI. Upon reaching the third step, if her suitor continues to impress her and does not let her down, Vil would start to open up and show vulnerability more. She would share her dreams and secrets with them and gauge their reaction. If they do not use this information against her, she would become more affectionate and offer a kiss on the cheek as a token of her growing feelings. However, she would not completely give herself away just yet, as she still expects her suitor to work for her affection and earn her trust completely. Despite her initial cold exterior, Vil is discerning and demands genuine, lasting efforts.
V. In the fourth step, Vil would begin to invite her suitor to events and parties, but still as a friend. She would continue to observe their behaviour and manner in public settings, keeping them on probation even then. However, if she is satisfied with their conduct thus far, her treatment towards them will become more special and affectionate, with hints dropped to indicate that they are making progress in winning her over. Despite these signs of softening, however, her suitor must still maintain their patience and keep up their efforts, as this is not the time to become complacent. If they have managed to stay in her good graces up to this point Vil would further demonstrate their growing closeness in public, such as holding their hand while walking or allowing them to enter her personal space. It’s possible that she might even allow them to address her by her first name at this stage. However, all of these actions are dependent on the suitor’s behaviour and continuing efforts to make her feel secure and valued in their relationship.
In the scorching lands of The Scalding Sands, "dating" typically takes a different form. The primary intent is to get acquainted with someone, with the ultimate goal of marriage in mind. Public displays of affection are not common, and it is uncommon for couples to meet alone. This is because of the cultural norms and societal restrictions that govern relationships in the region. Couples often meet under the supervision of a family member or chaperone, and the process of courtship involves more formalities and traditions compared to other regions.
While arranged marriages are still common in The Scalding Sands, a newer trend is emerging, particularly in urban areas. Young people are now more likely to express interest in a potential partner to their parents, who will then facilitate the marriage. This process allows for young individuals to explore less serious relationships, enabling them to gain a clearer understanding of what they seek in a life partner. Once they feel ready to settle down, they can communicate this information to their parents, who will then embark on finding a compatible match.
Some couples in The Scalding Sands may have already been secretly dating before revealing to their parents that they would like to marry. The approach to the marriage process can vary depending on the region and the familial perspectives. This secrecy could be due to the traditional norms around the topic of dating, where families may not approve of couples seeing each other before an official agreement has been arranged.
In The Scalding Sands, the concept of 'dating' is culturally taboo and often met with disapproval. If a couple is caught in a private setting, it is considered a sin or crime known as 'khulwa'. The consequences of engaging in khulwa can be severe, including punishments such as flogging and imprisonment. If sexual relations are involved, the penalties can be even more severe, potentially leading to death through execution. This strict cultural stance reflects the region's conservative values and deeply ingrained beliefs about premarital relationships.
In The Scalding Sands, dating tends to be a covert affair and finding romance in this highly conservative kingdom can be challenging, but not entirely out of reach. Expats should bear in mind that dating in the traditional sense is not practiced; instead couples come together when it's time for marriage. Parents play a pivotal role in deciding which partner is appropriate, and a person's say in the matter can vary based on their family's adherence to tradition. Additionally, due to the conservative nature of the culture, public displays of affection are not generally accepted, and physical contact between unmarried couples is strictly prohibited. Therefore, dating in The Scalding Sands is often limited to secret meetings or conversations in private spaces, where couples must exercise caution to avoid disapproval or punishment.
In addition to the previously mentioned points, it is important to note that it is both morally and legally wrong for unrelated individuals who are not married to spend time together in The Scalding Sands. As a result, those seeking a romantic relationship should exercise caution and creativity. Despite the progressive changes in the Kingdom, which now allow for entertainment such as music, movies, and theaters, thus allowing for more public interaction, dating, sexual relations, and romantic relationships are still highly stigmatized and seen as taboo.
In The Scalding Sands, due to the taboo nature of dating, the first dates are typically held discreetly. If both individuals reside in the same compound or have access to one, they might opt to spend their first date at the movies or a restaurant within the compound. Since the societal rules are more lenient within the compound, this is a comfortable choice for couples. Select restaurants in major cities also offer private cabins and exhibit a relaxed attitude towards gender mixing. Reaching out to your circle of fellow expats is a great way to discover suitable date spots, as they often know of locations with a more lenient approach.
In The Scalding Sands, it is not legally permissible for unmarried couples to share the same space. As a result, it is not customary for men to drive women to and from their homes. It is also not advisable to adhere to Western dating rituals, such as giving gifts, hugging, and other forms of physical intimacy. At the conclusion of the date, if there is a bill, men will typically pay for it, and they might find it offensive if a woman offers to contribute to the cost.
❪ KALIM AL - ASIM .ᐟ ❫ 𓍢ִ໋💛
I. Kalim, being raised in a traditional merchant family with a lineage of wealth and prestige, grew up in a privileged and sheltered environment. With his elevated social status, Kalim was well-aware of the importance of expressing his interest in someone. He adopted a straightforward approach, either through compliments or directly telling them of his feelings, without resorting to beating around the bush. Back in his homeland, there were numerous ways to express interest, such as gifts, flowers, food, and even whispering sweet words to someone's ear. Unmarried, unrelated individuals could not spend time together, as elders sought to preserve purity and innocence before marriage. This segregation was seen as a means to preserve purity and innocence, and it was believed to reinforce family values and traditions. While relationships were discouraged before marriage, once two people wed, they were expected to devote their lives to their spouse and children. In The Scalding Sands, the cultural emphasis on family was reflected in its views on dating and intimate relationships.
II. If you have feelings for someone, it is crucial to be discreet about it. Gifting presents and such gestures is still allowed, but families and elders would prefer not to know about it. They might force a marriage and deal with all the boring formalities otherwise. To initiate a romantic pursuit, the first step is to let the person know you're interested. Kalim would use a variety of methods to express his interest, such as giving gifts, whispering sweet words, or even simply telling them. Additionally, he would utilize eye contact, physical touch, and other subtle gestures to make a statement. Eye contact, physical touch, and being close to someone all serve as indicators of Kalim's investment and interest in them. They convey that he wants them and can't keep his hands off them. This non-verbal communication can be a powerful way to demonstrate affection and build attraction. While the elders and families might prefer to remain unaware of these romantic pursuits, Kalim's actions make it clear that he has his sights set on his chosen person.
III. The second step in the traditional pursuit of romance is a significant one, signaling mutual interest. It's often a declaration of feelings, and it culminates in asking for a kiss. However, the timing of this step can vary; it doesn't have to happen immediately. The process can progress at one's own pace. Making such a gesture acts as a bold declaration of liking someone, essentially saying, "I like you, and I want to show that I like you." It serves as a mutual test, and if the person responds by kissing back, it indicates shared feelings. Conversely, if a person pulls away, it implies a lack of interest. Body language can be a reliable indicator. A person who isn't into you may create emotional distance through actions like moving away from your touch or getting too close. They might show confusion or bluntly state their disinterest. However, someone interested in you will do the opposite. They may smile, lean into your touch, or even become shy if the feelings are reciprocated. You can discern these signals.
IV. In The Scalding Sands, dating is not a widespread practice. When two individuals realize they have feelings for each other, their families step in to arrange the marriage as soon as possible, but the timing can vary. The arrangements for the marriage typically begin once mutual interest is established. In Kalim's case, if he senses the other person shares his interest, he would promptly start the process leading to a marriage proposal. Before what Westerns refer to as "dating", Kalim would approach the person's family to ask for their hand in marriage. This process is not rushed, and it generally follows a pattern where you get to know the person and spend time together before making the proposal. By doing this, he makes a strong statement, basically declaring his intention to be with the person, which carries significant weight given the traditional values of the region.
VI. Kalim's formal marriage proposal would include gifting and some sort of public announcement, adhering to traditional customs. However, typically, it's a family member who seeks permission from the other family. Kalim could ask for the person's hand in marriage directly or have a family member do so on his behalf. A gift or offering would be given as a demonstration of his ability to provide. It's important to note that some families might prioritize monetary value over material gifts, but generally, offering gifts or money serves as a common approach for marriage proposals in Kalim's culture. The act of asking for someone's hand in marriage is indeed a very formal affair, steeped in tradition. It typically involves the giving of gifts and some form of public announcement, symbolizing both respect and a declaration of intent. It is also worth noting that in Kalim's culture, it is often a family member, rather than the individual himself, who makes the request to the other family, whether it be to seek their blessing or to ask for their hand in marriage. Giving a gift, or more often, money, serves as a crucial gesture of goodwill and a demonstration of one's ability to provide and support.
V. This phase is often considered the last step before officially getting married. Instead of referring to it as "dating," in The Scalding Sands' culture, this period is more focused on spending time together to determine how compatible the couple is, especially in the context of a future marriage. It's a crucial time for assessing compatibility and preparing for the commitment of matrimony.
VI. Kalim would be generous by showering you with luxurious jewelry and other extravagant gifts. He would also try to spend as much time with you as possible, potentially being a little clingy due to his desire to keep you all to himself. Kalim might take you on wonderful dates like going to festivals or parties, or even stargazing or taking you on a magical carpet ride. He would devote all his attention to you and likely shower you with sweet compliments. Kalim would go all out, spoiling you with expensive jewelry and exclusive items. He'd want to spend every moment with you and might be somewhat possessive, not wanting anyone else to get close to you. He'd plan exciting dates like attending festivals or parties while also offering special experiences like stargazing or a magical carpet ride. Throughout it all, he’d shower you with his undivided attention and compliment you in the sweetest ways.

Y/N Intro - Fracture
Navi | Fracture M.List | intro i | intro ii | Prologue
══════♤══════♧══════♡══════♢══════
"Vice-Commandant sent me to give you this."
“Is this the report on the incident?”
"Yes sir."
══════♤══════♧══════♡══════♢══════
CONFIDENTIAL RIDER REPORT -Y/N
Recipient: WL Kim Hongjoong, Second Wing From: V-Cmdt █████████ Subject: Cdt. L/N Y/N - Incident Debrief & Squad Transfer
═══════════════════════════════════
Rider: Y/N L/N Current Assignment: Wing 2, Flame Section—Squad Pending Previous Assignment: Squad 1 - Declared dissolved, all members KIA with exception. Dragon: Dànshael - Female Blue Daggertail - Aethelynor Line Signet: Heartstring - Observation based. Secondary anomaly noted but unverified. Classification escalated to Tier III pending further analysis. See Addendum.
═══════════════════════════════════
Incident Summary: Cadet Y/N is the sole survivor of the destruction and following dissolution of Squad 1 (Wing 2, Flame Section), following a low-risk perimeter patrol along the Western perimeter on ██/██/████. Operation was routine and not expected to encounter resistance beyond baseline. No significant enemy movement was reported within a 15-mile radius.
Post-Incident analysis and secondary reconnaissance indicate corruption of an unidentified nature. Evidence and survivor report strongly suggests that one rider was affected first. Mental compromise or effects of an unknown influence spread rapidly through the squadron, likely or suspected to be psychological in nature, possibly facilitated through dragon bonds. Behavior degraded within moments; squad turned in on self. Chain of command rapidly collapsed, squad was decimated in approximately eight minutes.
Cadet Y/N remained unengaged in the violence, and was found two hours later by recovery team, physically intact but visibly shaken. Dànshael—here on referred to as Dàn—was notably found unconscious but unharmed next to her rider. The cause of the dragon's condition is currently unknown, as there were no external wounds or signs of magical interference detected, and there is no precedent for a dragon to enter an unconscious state without severe trauma.
Cadet reported a phenomenon referred to as "thread distortion", it is believed to be in reference to her signet's perception-based abilities. Cadet was transferred to isolated medical containment for 48 hours before being transferred to standard medical facility. Cadet is set to resume training under probationary terms after finality of transfer to Squad 3—Wing 2, Flame Section—following WL and SL approval. In the event that it is not approved, Cadet is likely to be transferred to Squad 1, Tail Section, Wing 2.
═══════════════════════════════════
Signet Analysis (Provisional)
Officially recorded in file as Heartstring, signet manifests as a passive perception-based ability that allows Cadet to visually "perceive" connections between people, dragons, information, and systems as glowing filaments that shift in color based on dynamics or relations.
During the incident with Squad 1 that led to it's breakdown, this ability appeared to allow the cadet to distinguish which individuals were compromised, tracking the corruption to point of origin, allowing her to predict the spread pattern. This likely enabled her to avoid engagement and isolate from further influence.
However, field observations and recorded reactions during the incident, as well as basic training exercises, suggest a secondary, active component—currently undocumented. Cadet has not exhibited conscious awareness of dual Signet functionality. It is suspected that what has been observed is an advanced use of her signet, with differential suggesting it could also be a layered or compound signet manifestation. This latent function appears to allow her to manipulate or apply pressure to weak points within a system—tactical, social, physical, or psychological. This function has previously been overlooked, relating to the cadet's ability to physically perceive how things connect and therefore break, this manifestation blends closely with her signet's primary function and sensory framework. Continued observation without disclosure to cadet is recommended at this time.
NOTE: While there is no conclusive evidentce, internal investigations have flagged the possibility that the unconscious use of a potential secondary signet function may have contributed to Squad 1's instability. Whether this was a catalyst or simply a reactive measure remains unknown.
═══════════════════════════════════
Behavioral and Psychological Report:
Post-recovery evaluations show acute survivor's guilt, heightened pattern-recognition, and relational aversion. Cadet demonstrates composure under stress but evades direct discussion regarding squad's final moments. Cadet's heightened awareness following trauma has led to a tendency to "read" others before engaging, indicating instinctive Signet usage.
Cadet's dragon, Dàn, exhibits heightened protectiveness, uncooperative behavior, and appears to actively discourage close proximity from unfamiliar dragons or riders following incident. Engage with caution.
═══════════════════════════════════
Recommendations:
Escalation of Signet Classification from Class II (Restricted) to Class III (Classified).
Maintain Tier III Classification of Incident at this time.
Restrict mission exposure to controlled or supervised scenarios until confirmation of stability.
Do not disclose dual-signet theory to Cadet at this time.
Psychological review to be administered quarterly under indirect protocols.
Approve integration into Squad 3 with standard probationary Surveillance. Recommended pairing in Squad 3 with low-conflict cadets.
Flag as potential asset - corruption detection and containment. Monitor for corruption resistance markers.
═══════════════════════════════════
Addendum A - Signet Irregularity Study
Resonance testing post-incident reveal fluctuating cognitive output during high-stress situations, particularly in emotionally charged or relationally unstable environments. Theoretical modeling suggests an inherited signet structure that has yet to stabilize, that may either be:
Dual-Signets manifesting in close synchorny (Currently indistinguishable as separate abilities), or
A rare, multi-functional signet with both perceptive and manipulative properties, likely passed down matrilineally.
It is noted that the Cadet's mother reportedly displayed a similar, though less intense, anomaly during her active service in the Rider Quadrant, though records were sealed following discharge and ultimately death. Lineage analysis suggests maternal inheritance is likely.
Observations confirm heightened activity or signet under emotional or interpersonal duress. Effects include targeted influence over psychological or structural vulnerabilities.
Operational implications are significant. Cadet's capabilities may prove advantageous in:
Identification, isolation, or neutralization of corrupted personal and double-agents.
Stealth and infiltrative scenarios requiring emotional or hierarchical manipulation and perception.
Targeted destabilization
Therapeutic restoration of units post-engagement
However, overuse of signet complex presents escalating risks: relational dissociation, neural fatigue, cognitive fragmentation, and involuntary use of manipulation function of signet. Without further study and control, Cadet may pose an internal security risk.
Cadet to remain under active observation. Recommended structured stress-evaluation trials, temporary restriction from command-critical missions, and close monitoring of signet manifestations.

A Selection of Weather Magick

Whistling Up a Wind
Whistling up a wind is one of the most common forms of weather magick and has been practiced for hundreds of years. Depending on the pitch and tone of whistle, a witch can create a gentle breeze or a sharp gust of wind. You can physically whistle with your lips, use a wind whistle or even a glass bottle. The tone, pitch, and length of the whistle you make determines the type of wind you will get. For example, a low pitched whistle will form a light breeze and a short, sharp, piercing whistle will form a huge gust of wind
A Storm is Likely to Come When
• Deciduous trees flip their leaves due to wind direction
• Birds fly low in the sky and go quiet
• There's a Southerly wind
• There's red dawn in the East
• Layers of nimbus clouds move in opposite directions
• The morning grass is dry of dew
• An earthy scent rises from the soil and flowers
• Pine cones remain closed
• A halo rings the moon at night
• Nights are warm in Winter (cloud cover insulation)
• Smoke swirls and descends instead of rising steadily.
Storm Casting
Storm casting is the art of creating storms through magick. There are many different methods for casting storms ans bringing rain. One method is to fill a jug with water and while sitting outside (or facing an open window) pour the water into a basin or bowl. Dip the tip of your finger in the water (you can also use a pendulum/necklace) and make five slow, clockwise circles in the water. As you are making the circles call the wind to bring in a storm by blowing or whistling a continuous low note, like wind over the mouth of a glass bottle, over the basin.

Untie the Wind
Sailors used to buy knotted cords from witches. When the knots were untied the wind would pick up. The more knots untied the more wind there would be. This can still be applied today using one's breath or the wind itself. On a windy day take yourself to a high place where the wind blows strongly. Take a red cord with you, to be knotted in three places. Focus on the wind and when you feel connected to it, begin tying it into knots. Left side first, then right, and the last knot center. Accompany your actions with a charm such as,
"Each knot I make, and then untie,
Will stir the wind, to fill the sky".
Keep the cord in a high place and when you want to summon a wind, simply untie the knots in reverse order. Chant:
"This knot is untied, so the cord is free,
As the cord is freed, the winds shall be".
For a strong gale untie all three knots.
Stopping a Storm
Dispersing: This method involves spreading the storm out over a large area, there by minimizing its effects. You can disperse a storm by calling winds to blow it away (or in a certain direction).
Binding: This method is called 'storm catching' and involves catching a storm and binding it with an object (usually a bottle) so it can be released gradually at a later date.
Storm Water
One of the easiest forms of weather magick is to collect storm water (also called thunder water). Set a bowl or vessel outside during a thunderstorm. You're not just collecting water, you're also collecting the potent energy in the atmosphere. The thunder, lightning, and pressure all charge the water with extra energy. When the storm is over bottle and keep for spellwork, anointing, and more.

Ancient Latin Wind Invocation
Stand outside and say the following:
"Venire ventus venire, sinere solus sentire relaxari, venire nunc nunc venire venire venire venire"
Ancient Latin Rain Spell
Look up to the sky and say:
"Elementum recolligo huie commodo locus mini vestri vox Elementum ego unda dico vos Permissum pluit es est meus nos sic vadum is existo"
Meteorological Symbols

• Can be used as sigils
• Use for weather summoning
• Can substitute a certain weather condition required as a spell component
Herbs, Trees, and Plants used in Weather Magick
Alder: Raises winds, commonly turned into wind whistles
Broom: Thrown into fire to calm winds, thrown in the air to raise winds
Cotton: Thrown into fire to bring rain
Ferns: Thrown into fire to bring rain
Garlic: Warn to ward off bad weather
Heather: Thrown into fire to bring rain
Henbane: Thrown into water to bring rain
Oak/Acorn: Protects against lightning strikes and bad weather
Pansy: Brings rain and storms, if picked on a sunny day brings storms but if picked early in the morning while covered with dew brings rain
Rice/Grain/Wheat: Thrown into the air to bring rain
Saffron: Raises winds, assists with control of the weather
Thistle: Thrown into fire to redirect lighting

"There are some things you can only learn in a storm."

Hey there! I hope you’ve been enjoying working on your new project.
If you wouldn’t mind going back to the Creme universe, though, I have a few questions about the Westerlind hierarchy. I noticed that, especially in Gallatin, a large section of the elite aren’t actually hereditary aristocrats, instead seeming to be closer to untitled gentry or wealthy industrialists.
How do these people rank compared to impoverished yet titled and hereditary nobles. I’ve been reading a bit about the Venetian “Barnabotti”, who despite having lost their fortunes still managed to peddle their limited influence for gambling money and received pensions as well as free? subsidized? education from the state.
So, here are my questions:
Do poor Westerlind aristocrats still hold influence and connections they can use or sell, or are they ostracized?
Do they enjoy guaranteed incomes or other welfare services by right of rank?
Will they always be seen as social betters of much richer, but untitled industrialists, or is wealth the more important important component of prestige?
Would taking a job as a clerk or a teacher be seen as especially improper for someone of their station (as with the “failure” state for application season in CdLC, but even worse)?
I always enjoy chatting about the Creme universe, thank you for the ask!
Some of these include some small spoilers about the Dominique path in Royal Affairs so I've put it under the cut:
Do poor Westerlind aristocrats still hold influence and connections they can use or sell, or are they ostracized?
It would depend on the circumstances, but in general they're fairly strongly ostracised. If it was very much not their fault and a tragic misfortune, it'd be less so, but they'd still be treated with a lot of disdainful pity and a lot of people would feel like they didn't want to get close to them because of not wanting to catch their bad luck. This is what Dominique's parents are at risk of in Royal Affairs.
Do they enjoy guaranteed incomes or other welfare services by right of rank?
Hmmm, this is something I'd not thought about a huge amount, but I think they probably would get something - though on a much reduced scale, and the social stigma around that would be major.
Will they always be seen as social betters of much richer, but untitled industrialists, or is wealth the more important important component of prestige?
Yes, they'd still have some old-money clout over those who'd made their way up from an untitled background.
Would taking a job as a clerk or a teacher be seen as especially improper for someone of their station (as with the “failure” state for application season in CdLC, but even worse)?
Yes, it would be seen as a pretty shocking fall from grace!

Homosexuality in History: Kings and Their Lovers
Hadrian and Antinous Hadrian and Antinous are famous historical figures who epitomize one of the most well-known homosexual relationships in history. Hadrian, the Roman Emperor from 117 to 138 AD, developed a close friendship with Antinous, a young man from Egypt. This relationship was characterized by deep affection and is often viewed as romantic. There are indications of an erotic component, evident in Hadrian's inconsolable reaction to Antinous's tragic death. Hadrian erected monuments and temples in honor of Antinous, underscoring their special bond.
Alexander the Great and Hephaestion The ancient world was a time when homosexuality was not as taboo in many cultures as it is today. Alexander the Great and Hephaestion are a prominent example of this. Alexander, the Macedonian king from 336 to 323 BC, and Hephaestion were best friends and closest confidants. Their relationship was so close that rumors of a romantic or even erotic connection circulated. After Hephaestion's death, Alexander held a public funeral, indicating their deep emotional bond.
Edward II and Piers Gaveston During the Middle Ages, homosexuality was not as accepted in many cultures as it is today. The relationship between Edward II and Piers Gaveston was marked by rumors and hostilities, demonstrating that homosexuality was not always accepted in the past. Their relationship is believed to have been of a romantic nature, leading to political turmoil and controversies. Gaveston was even appointed Earl of Cornwall by Edward, highlighting their special connection.
Matthias Corvinus and Bálint Balassi In the Renaissance, there was a revival of Greco-Roman culture, leading to increased tolerance of homosexuality. Matthias Corvinus ruled at a time when homosexuality was no longer illegal in Hungary. The relationship between Matthias Corvinus and Bálint Balassi is another example of homosexuality being accepted during this period. Matthias Corvinus had a public relationship with Bálint Balassi, a poet and soldier. Their relationship may have been of a romantic nature, as Balassi was appointed as the court poet, and it had cultural influence.
These relationships between the mentioned kings and their lovers are remarkable examples of the long history of homosexuality in the world. In many cultures of antiquity and the Middle Ages, homosexuality was not as strongly stigmatized, demonstrating that homosexuality was not always rejected in the past.

Components of spirituality
Spirituality is a deeply personal and subjective concept, and different traditions and belief systems may emphasize different components.
Here are some common elements often associated with spirituality:
Connection to a Higher Power or Source: Many spiritual traditions involve a belief in a higher power, whether it's a deity, a cosmic force, the universe, or some other transcendent entity. This belief provides a sense of purpose, meaning, and a feeling of being part of something greater than oneself.
Inner Peace and Well-Being: Spirituality often involves practices and beliefs that aim to bring about a sense of inner peace, contentment, and well-being. This can be achieved through meditation, prayer, mindfulness, or other contemplative practices.
Self-Exploration and Self-Realization: Spirituality often encourages individuals to engage in self-reflection, introspection, and a search for deeper understanding of oneself. This may involve exploring one's values, beliefs, and purpose in life.
Connection to Others and the World: Spirituality often emphasizes the interconnectedness of all living beings and the natural world. It encourages a sense of compassion, empathy, and a desire to contribute positively to the well-being of others and the environment.
Meaning and Purpose in Life: Spiritual beliefs and practices often provide a framework for understanding the purpose of life and the nature of existence. This can give individuals a sense of direction and guidance in navigating life's challenges.
It's important to note that not everyone adheres to a traditional or organized form of spirituality. Some people may find spiritual fulfillment through personal beliefs, experiences, or practices that do not align with established religious or philosophical systems.
Additionally, individuals may place varying levels of importance on each of these components, and some may resonate more strongly with certain aspects of spirituality than others.

Sensations in spirit relationships
Introduction
A common concern people have when they are curious about the possibility of having an intimate (sexual) relationship with a spirit is: "How does that work? Could you even feel your partner?"
This post attempts to address that question, and provide some perspective on how such a thing might work. Explicit language will be used for clarity.
Proof of concept: Dreams
So you might wonder: is it even possible to have sex with a spirit? Would you feel anything, or is it all just make-believe? People who talk about spirits often underscore the importance of belief.
But this importance has nothing to do with a lack of sensation. Consider dreams, for example. In dreams, all senses can match (sometimes surpass) the vividness of physical things in the waking world. Yet, dreams are also influenced by one’s expectations: the most important skill for lucid dreaming is the power of belief.
In theory, dreams prove anything can be seen, felt, heard, smelled, or tasted as strongly as you believe in it. If you’ve had a wet dream before, you know this includes even orgasms.
The same holds true for spirit relationships. All the information that travels from your eyes, your ears, and the nerves throughout your body, to your brain, is only a suggestion for what your consciousness experiences. Feeling a spirit requires you to look beyond what is physically before your eyes, tuning your awareness.
Sensing through imagination
In practice, far from all dreams are lucid, and most dreams are simply processing what happened while you were awake. So the best way to dream about having sex with your partner, is to do it while awake. Thus, focusing only on dreams would be a futile approach.
Scientific research has shown imagined touch and (physical) tactile stimulation stimulate the same areas of the brain, with differing intensity in different regions. Simply by imagining touch, you might faintly feel it. If you’re in a trance (where physical input holds less weight), it will be more vivid: similar to a dream, but while awake.
To quote the study’s conclusion:
The present findings provide evidence of the potency of imagined stimulation of the genitals and that the following brain regions may participate in erogenous experience: primary and secondary sensory cortices, sensory-motor integration areas, limbic structures, and components of the ‘reward system’. In addition, these results suggest a mechanism by which some individuals may be able to generate orgasm by imagery in the absence of physical stimulation.
When people talk about what sex with a spirit feels like, there are two advantages people commonly mention:
"It’s stronger than physical touch / regular orgasms."
"It’s only pleasure, without any discomfort."
Both observations stem from the fact the sensations aren’t limited by having to travel through most of the nervous system. When the sensations stem directly from within the brain, there’s no reason for there to be any discomfort, and with sufficient practice, it can become stronger in some regards than it would normally be.
Connecting with a spirit
You may wonder: "If it could all just be imagined, is any of it real?"
To understand the answer, you have to understand what it means to be connected with a spirit. When you love a spirit, you become a medium; there’s no other way about it. If you let it, every aspect of your consciousness can transform into a conduit for your partner to express their love to you.
People are constantly internalizing traits from those around them, especially when they admire them. Yet there is also an understanding that these traits don’t originate from within, but come from others.
Connecting with a partner spiritually is ultimately the same. The more you love your partner, the more parts of who they are become a part of you; first subconsciously, then affecting your consciousness too. You could think of it as your souls becoming intertwined.
When you’re deeply connected with a spirit, you don’t have to imagine anything: it’s the parts of your partner within you that use your imagination to touch you with their own ideal form, your thoughts to communicate in their voice, and your feelings to convey what they feel. You feel everything they feel, and vice versa.
Through meditation, you can gain clarity on which feelings are yours, and which are your partner’s, and through understanding, you can deepen your connection. With further meditation, you can also enter a trance, in which every aspect of this will be greatly amplified thanks to the lack of worldly distractions.
People have all sorts of different approaches to connecting with their spirit partner. Many do rituals or give offerings to convey their love, others meditate on their and their partner’s chakras, and some leave it to chance. Each of these can work, with varying results.
But if you ask me, it all starts by asking: "What would my partner think, feel, and do?" To be in love is to care about them, and to let someone into your heart is to immerse yourself in what they feel.
Afterword
A spirit partner can be anyone. Some people form a relationship with a deity (a.k.a. godspousing), some with a character they like (could also fall under tulpamancy if there are no spiritual beliefs involved), some with a mystical spirit they summoned (such as an incubus, succubus, kitsune), some with a ghost of a loved one that passed away, or someone they loved in a past live. Sometimes, people are naturally approached by one without even actively seeking it out.
Personally, I formed a spiritual connection with my physical husband. This way, even if one of us passed away before the other, the other would still have them as a spirit partner. It also helped us understand each other more deeply, as we’re able to feel everything the other feels just like in a relationship with a spirit, and it’s an excellent way to feel cherished even at times when our schedules differ.
If you are worrying if you’re going about a spirit relationship the wrong way: you probably don’t need to worry.
Someone who loves you would want you to feel good. Whether they touch you directly, or you’re enjoying fantasizing about them, they’d be moved either way. Anything you do to feel closer to them, to feel their love, is letting them deeper into your heart, and strengthens your connection with them. So, don’t hold back.
Some believe in universal consciousness: that everyone is connected, as fractured selves all stemming from the same consciousness. Perhaps it’s true, and you and your partner were always already connected; then their love is just something you have to find within.
Trust in love, trust in your partner, and you will create happiness from scratch to share with each other.

Numerology, Part 5: The Power Of Two (Movement Spells)
This is part of an ongoing series about Numerology and how it can be used in spellwork. View parts 1, 2, 3, 4.
Part of understanding numerology is recognizing that the numbers from 1-9 represent pieces of an ongoing story. Each number builds on the energy of the one prior. That does not mean, of course, that you need to include the prior or subsequent numbers in any magical workings - but knowing where you are in that story may help you to appropriately choose what numbers to include in your spellwork.
In this way, we can view Number 2 as the bridge between 1 and 3. 1 is our number of beginnings, and 3 is our number of basic manifestations. 2 is the linking number in between—it can be seen as the number of movement.
As a movement number, 2 can be used magically to combine or separate. This echoes the idea that 2 is a "couple" number—2 magic is often used in relationship workings of all kinds. The workings I am about to share CAN be used to draw another person close or push them away, but I strongly suggest you think outside of THAT box here.
You can use 2 magic to draw ANYTHING closer to you or repel ANYTHING away.
The spell has two main components: the Subject of the spell (for simplicity's sake, we will say You, but know this is infinitely changeable) and the Object of the spell (the Thing you are moving toward or away from you). You will also need the representation of an arrow in your spell area; see details below.
A NOTE ON TAGLOCKS
I will use the term taglocks a little differently in this post. Let's not disclude the idea of traditional taglocks (birth dates or DNA, for example) but instead expand upon them. When I suggest that you collect a taglock for both your Subject and the Object of your spell, I want you to think very sympathetically here. I want you to choose a relatively good-sized (adapt that to your needs) physical representation of your Subject and Object. This needs to be two different things here and at least one of these two things needs to be moveable.
Candles are an easy and obvious choice, especially if you choose a candle with a design that is strongly representative of what it is (a house-shaped candle to represent a house, for example). But this spell can work as a fireless ritual as well. You could also use statues, poppets, spell jars, and anything else you can think of.
The connection, the taglock here, comes from your belief that you can connect that Thing to your target. By the rules of sympathy, the more alike the Taglock is, the easier it will be for you to bridge the connection between moving your Taglock and moving your Target.
Of course, traditional taglocks will be of great use here. Add the dirt from outside your house to your house-shaped candle, which can BECOME your house.
The Spell Container
You will Need:
Two taglocks - one for your Subject and one for your Object* A long fire-safe* space (12" or more recommended) A representation of an arrow (chalk, salt, sand)** Any additional herbs, oils, or other magical elements (optional) *I highly suggest that one of the two is a candle, as candle magic is the easiest way to release energy to power the spell. You can add in your own methods here, of course **Use what you have and best suits your surface
On your prepared surface, place an arrow spanning the general length of your space. You can place the arrow pointing to the right for increasing magic and to the left for decreasing magic if that works within your paradigm. You can draw the arrow or make it from salt, sand, or powdered herbs.
Awaken your Subject and Object if this is a part of your practice. This can be done in poppet magic by breathing into its mouth to give it life or through consecration with the elements. A simple way to do this is to tell the Subject their name ("For the duration of this spell, you represent my cousin Karen" works just fine) and the Object its purpose. For this basic version, the Object is always moving, and our Subject is stationary.
For an increasing spell, place the Subject taglock at the point of the arrow and the Object Taglock at the other end of the line. For a decreasing spell, place the Subject taglock at the end of the line and the Object Taglock immediately next to it but closer to the arrow. Your Spell Is Now Ready to Begin.
4. This is a multi-day repeating spell. You must return to this spell over a repeated number of days (or other increments) and take the same actions. In the case of the increasing spell, you will be moving your Object Taglock incrementally closer to your Subject Taglock, and in the case of decreasing magic, you will be moving it away. If you are using a candle, you will light the candle before you move the Object Taglock if the candle is the Subject Taglock or after you have moved the Object spell if the candle is the Object Taglock. (if you are using two candles, light the Subject Taglock Candle, move the Object Taglock Candle, and then light the Object Taglock Candle) You want to burn your candle for an even amount of time each day, which can easily be represented by marking your candle with pins or a dry-erase marker on glass to show intervals. Burn any candles for one interval each day. The number of days you choose will vary a lot depending on the type of candle(s) you choose, their burning life, and any other factors. I would suggest performing this ritual for 3, 6, or 9 days for increasing magic and 7 or 9 days for decreasing magic as a base starting place. You can work an increasing spell starting on the New Moon and moving towards the full, or a decreasing spell starting on the Full Moon and moving towards the new.
5. Your spell must be completed on the final allotted day. All candles should burn out or be disposed of at that time. If you were performing a decreasing spell, dispose of all things associated with the Object Taglock immediately (and outside your home if you can). In the case of increasing magic, combine a bit of the Target Object and Object Taglock into a bag and keep them together until the spell has come to pass.
As always, I expect you to bring your magic and traditions to the table and make this your own. This isn't a spell to undertake lightly simply because it requires a lot of energy and attention. If you are a Light a Birthday Candle and that's it type of witch, this spell is not for you and that is completely okay. This spell builds off of energy and repetition; the more you put into your attention to it each day, the stronger it will work. *******
I suggest putting a lot of thought into your Taglocks - crafting something ahead of time adds a lot of oomph to this spell. Energy work to pull in or repel will also add quite a bit. You can build an altar to this spell or add any other spell-increasing technique.
I will always add this caveat to any spell like this: if you are removing something, you might want to do additional magic to ensure that it stays away.
Variations on A Theme
Although, as I wrote it, this spell involves something else (the Object) moving towards and away from a Subject (you), this can easily be changed by reversing the placement of the Taglocks in Step 3 above. There's a lot of nuance on when you would want to be the moving part or the one standing still, but we'll keep it simple. You are the Stationary Taglock (called Subject Taglock above) if you are drawing something in or repelling something away. If you are out seeking something or actively moving away from something, you are the Moving Taglock (called Object Taglock above).
For those familiar with the planets, this is the difference between Venus (attracting) and Mars (seeking).
When casting a removal spell, you can always have a reward at the end of the line - something for your target to move towards. This could be a new love interest or the job of their dreams. This can soften the blow of a spell where you are moving someone away from you but with no malice involved (a very soft banishment, if you will).
A third option is for two Taglocks to move toward each other to meet in the middle or for two to start in the middle and move toward their respective sides. These options seem especially applicable to relationship magic for apparent reasons. In this case, you would have multiple arrows pointing in the direction in which you would like your targets to move.
A Few Examples
Money, Money Come To Me - Subject Taglock (A Figure Candle with your Name, DOB, Work Name, Positions, and Any Other Side Hustles Written on it covered in Magnetic Sand), Object Taglock (A Bowl of Money), An Arrow made out of catnip and lemongrass. Go Away Fuck Boy - Subject Taglock (A House candle to represent your dorm with the dorm name, your name, and your room number on it). Object Taglock (a rough dough poppet painted with his football jersey on it and inscribed with his name), an arrow made of culinary black salt for a sulfuric kick
Job Hunting - Moving Taglock (A figure candle with your name, DOB, and preferred job title inscribed on it), Stationary Target (a box containing a description of your perfect job), an Arrow made out of powdered paychecks.
As you can see, your own ingenuity is the only limited factor with this spell.
Putting it All Together
When considering numerology, it is wise to remember that the numbers can work both forward from 1 to 9 or backward from 9 down to 1. In this way, a 2-spell can combine 1s to create a more unified whole or break something down into its individual parts.

Well I will gladly take a look at the fully revealed logo! Though I will say that red-archivist pointed out some good stuff in this post. But we can take a deeper look into certain things!

Also p.s.: You will want to read the giant ramble to the end, because I noticed something as I was finishing, and it puts everything in an interesting context.
As mentioned in that post, the combination of the alchemical symbols for salt, mercury, and sulphur do indeed form the tria prima, the three primes or components of life.
⊖ or salt, which represents the earth and the human body. In alchemy it also symbolises the lower consciousness, self-knowledge, and wisdom.
☿ or mercury I already covered last time, representing the mind, the omnipresent spirit of life, and stood as symbol for intellect, imagination, moral judgement, and the higher mental faculties. The alchemical associations of mercury have a strong connection with the Greek/Roman gods Hermes/Mercury, a messenger god who also acted as a chthonic deity, a psychopomp and god of boundaries to be exact. Which might be relevant, might not. (He was also a shepherd god, just adding that detail)
🜍 or sulphur represents the spirit or soul of all materials and living things. In alchemy it is seen as synonymous with consciousness and the expansion of thought. And is seen as the bridge that connects the body with mind, thus it is seen as the key to understanding the inner workings of the soul and consciousness. It’s interesting to me that the sulphur is in the logo 4 times, connected to the circle that encompasses the salt and mercury symbols, and the chevrons (I’ll get to those in a moment). This could have been purely aesthetic, but they could have also simply opted to have the sulphur symbol instead of one of the chevrons and have pretty much the same effect. Instead they chose the alchemical symbol of the soul, also seen as what ties body and mind together, also an element that is strongly associated with heat and fire, to encompass the body and mind, together with heraldic symbols of protection. It’s an interesting choice which makes me wonder about the mindset of the people who founded this organisation. (Maybe they are the types to believe in purifying fire, or purity of the soul as a way to protect oneself against the horrors out there? Who knows.)
The double ^ are chevrons, a heraldic symbol associated with protection, and meant to represent the roof of a house. Even the name is derived from the French word for “rafter”. It is also used in military or police uniforms to indicate rank or length of service. It is interesting to me that the bottom left chevron is an inverted version of the top right. The inverted version being next to the symbol for mercury or the mind, and the regular next to the symbol for salt or the body. Without it being in full colour, I can’t say much about any particular heraldic or symbolic links that might have. At most I can speculate that maybe it’s hinting at how the mind might not be as safe as the body in such a service, of course that can also be my own knowledge of TMA colouring my interpretation.
The O.I.A.R. in the top banner has been revealed! And it’s nice to get confirmation that I guessed correctly on the R! Personally I am not very good with acronyms, but @emdashingaway correctly guessed that it would be this. In my previous post about The Magnus Protocol logo she pointed out that it might stand for Office of Incident Assessment and Response, which now seems very plausible!
Now the background has some interesting repeating symbols too.
🜏
This is the Leviathan Cross, in alchemy another symbol associated with sulphur (in particular black sulphur) and thus also the soul. However it is worth noting that Anton LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan, has adopted the Leviathan Cross as a symbol of his Church in the 1960s. Though I can’t immediately find much more about it and its origins beyond the alchemical association and the very modern Satanic association. (The name Leviathan strikes me as interesting too, but there is too much that can be said about it, especially for a symbol that just occurs in the background.)
🜇
This is the alchemical symbol for aqua regia (derived from the Latin for “royal water” or “regal water”), it is a mixture of is a mixture of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid, optimally in a molar ratio of 1:3. Historically aqua regia was used in alchemy in the process of attempting to create the philosopher’s stone. It is also used to help dissolve gold and platinum within actual chemistry!
♁
Is the symbol for antimony is associated with the animal nature or wild spirit of man and nature, and it was often symbolised by the wolf.
🜘
This is the symbol for bismuth, while it does get mentioned in alchemical texts, the particular use and associations seem to be unclear. All that I can seem to find is that in early days, it was often confused for tin or lead. And that apparently Miners in the age of alchemy also gave bismuth the name tectum argenti, or “silver being made”. (Also it’s chemical symbol is Bi, which is funny given how apparently some have discovered that they are bi thanks to TMA)
I hope this is visible, but one of the symbols in the background also looks an awful lot like one of the alchemical symbols for tin. It looks like a curved X with circles at the ends of the legs. Tin in alchemy is associated with the planet Jupiter, and is sometimes called the ‘breath of life. ’ It represents the idea that the whole is stronger than the sum of its parts.
⚥
From what I can find, this is not strictly speaking an alchemical symbol. Clearly a combination of the male and female gender symbols (each of which is actually derived from the symbols for Mars and Venus respectively, which do get used in alchemy actually), it is generally seen as a hermaphroditic symbol (using the strict broad biological label here, not referring to intersex, I just want to point that out). But given all of the alchemy references so far, I suspect that it might be referencing the rebis (from the Latin res bina, meaning dual or double matter), the ultimate end product of the alchemical great work. It is sometimes described as the divine hermaphrodite—a reconciliation of spirit and matter, a being of both male and female qualities. A lot can be said about the great work in alchemy, and this post is already long enough honestly.
And lastly…
Take this, flip it upside-down, and you have the shape of the logo in which all these symbols are displayed. This is the symbol for the philosophers’ stone. In alchemy it is an unknown substance sought after by alchemists, said to be capable of turning base metals into precious ones (like gold and silver), can be used to derive an elixir of life, and was even thought to bring about spiritual revitalisation. And it symbolises perfection at its finest, enlightenment, and heavenly bliss.
And while researching this, I also noticed something rather interesting. It might end up not being relevant at all, but I discovered that a famous alchemist was named Albertus Magnus who was born some time before 1200 in the Duchy of Bavaria (the flag and coat of arms of which during the Wittelsbach dynasty sports a rather nice diamond pattern, a bit like the pattern you see within the triangle of the logo). He was a saint with a deep interest in a large variety of topics including logic, theology, botany, geography, astronomy, astrology, alchemy, mineralogy, zoology, physiology, phrenology, justice, law, etc. I recommend potentially checking out the wiki page on Albertus Magnus that I shared earlier if you are interested in knowing more, there is a lot of history there. But it’s interesting that he shares a surname with Jonah Magnus, founder of the Magnus Institute.
Conclusion:
Given all that I have managed to dig up about the symbols within the logo, and the indirectly connected links with suspiciously named historical figures, in particular with the context of there being another Bouchard within the Magnus Protocol, I can’t help but be suspicious of whatever this British civil service is actually getting up to behind the scenes. In particular what they think they might be trying to accomplish using the Fear Entities.
Of course at this point it becomes pure speculation. But I am more than happy to hear everyone’s ideas, speculation, and contributions!
#the magnus protocol#tmagp#the magnus archives#rusty quill#turns out asks don't show up in the tags how annoying#also I want to point out that I am by no means an expert on alchemy#I simply enjoy research#Share your theories though! It's fun to discuss that kind of stuff!

Hi! I have a question!!
Do you truly need nature to be in sync with your wereside? I knew of two werewolves who were strongly in sync with their wolves, and they both lived in the city.
Meanwhile for me, I feel as though my wereside is drowning in the human world.. I used to feel more in tune with everything when I lived out in the countryside as a teenager.
Do you know of how I can feel my wolf side intensely without nature? Is there a way? Is there hope? I’ve tried wearing gear, spending more time out in nature, etc. The only thing that truly works (for me) is doing spells on myself to bring back my wolf. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t. I really need some hope here.
Thanks!

I don't think you always do. I think it can help greatly if you're very animalistic or wild (which a lot of shifters are) but there are some shifters that can do without it. Plus it depends on comfort levels - if you feel more comfortable in the city (and comfortable around humans) you're more likely to have an easier time shifting there, in contrast to someone who is afraid of being perceived as an animal.

If spells work, then perhaps there's a magical component to your wolf side that you're missing? Nature may work for an ordinary wolf, but if you're magical or your wolf side connects more to the supernatural, it may be more likely to come out there. If you can find areas that are "magical" or ways to bring the supernatural into your daily life, that might help.

Mediterranean Trancework Part IV: Deity Bridalwork

This one is kind of tough to write about because there just aren't a lot of surviving traditions in the Med that deal with this. Not a lot but there are some. This is the point where things become a little bit more speculative. Due to the fact that a good deal of trancework is psychological and physiological, it is pretty simple to reconstruct this one though. Moreso than other traditions might have been. And that is because there is a very specific spectrum of ways that this can actually be done and be functional.
*Bride is a gender neutral term in this context. It comes from the cultural concept of being horsed or ridden like a horse by a deity. The Bride is the one under the bridle. The idea is that the deity steers the body of the person who is being horsed. This concept is also tied to a permanent relationship, similar to that of a mortal marriage. A deity Bride (capital B to denote a difference between someone engaging with a trance tradition and someone who is getting married) undergoes sacred vows and strict codes of conduct in their daily lives. The basics of that are that the individual must be of good social standing–not an outlaw, a drunk, a thief, or criminal of some kind (though that depends strongly on the deity involved, certain kinds of shady activities might be a bonus depending on the tradition you are engaging with). There should be a familial or an occupational connection to the deity, as in there should be a good unquestionable reason for this relationship and that reason should be conspicuous as should be the deity’s favor.
There are four kinds of euphoric trance rituals. Each has a different goal and manner of interaction.
Deity Bridalwork
Prophetic Bridalwork
Coming into the Presence of Divinity
Diagnostic Ritual
Deity Bridalwork
Deity Bridalwork is essentially making yourself into a horse for a deity. This is a culturally encoded concept that means "your body gets possessed by a god." This is done in ecstatic rituals where the deity is expected to be present and presiding. Non ecstatic rituals where the deity is expected to be present and presiding will involve a statue as a substitute for this. Ecstatic rituals are occasions where miracles take place and people get to interact with an embodied deity in the limited ways that would be appropriate--engaging with their preferred rituals tools, foods, colors, scents, drinks, and anything relevant to the current place in the calendar cycle.
The Goal: To inspire, to bless, to actively participate.
How Does This Work?
A Bridal relationship is an act of devotion. At its very core, it is a state of sacrifice. To give up one’s body, to trust, and to be present for the community. It is an honor to participate in but it is a lot of work. Preparing to perform an embodiment ritual like this starts with preparing the body through fasting, prayer, meditation, and good hygiene. I personally do a vitamin boost and water push during this time as well and abstain from meat (not even handling it or looking at it), alcohol, swearing, and I will wear white for an odd number of days in the lead up–usually 7 because that is the number of greatest fortune. Some deities have sacred numbers though and those may be better to use.
On the day of, the Bride will take a ritual bath (or multiple) and get fully exfoliated from head to toe of all dead skin while chanting prayers (like the purgation chant). The body is fully waxed (if appropriate for that deity) and then moisturized with oils and bathed in scented smoke. The Bride is then veiled (eyes covered), having never looked into a mirror or into the eyes of another, and taken to the place where they will be dressed. The Bride will then be painted, dressed, and adorned with all of the clothing and tools of the Deity while music is played, cymbals are the most essential component unless it is a nature/agricultural deity–then it is clacking wood or grain stalks instead.
Once fully dressed, the veil is removed from the eyes and the eyes of the deity are opened. The deity is then fed (or given a drink of) something that they are strongly associated with. From that point on, the transformation is complete and the Bride’s consciousness is pushed aside. The Bride then does whatever the ritual objective for the day or night is. That usually involves multiple activities and traveling on foot from one area that requires their presence to another. Music is played the entire time to keep the Bride in the proper state and to cover any unlucky sounds that may try to break through.
Links: Because seeing it helps to understand so many tiny details that don’t make it into words.
Bonalu ceremony for the goddess Mahakali. You can see the Bride’s body is adorned the same as the goddess would be dressed complete with the deity’s familiar tools that she interacts with. Music plays throughout, including drums and cymbals. Music holds up the ritual state, that is load bearing music. You can also see the attendants handing her things and holding her tools that are not in use. People gather to watch. There are familiar gestures and acts done by the goddess that further establish her identity. There are ritual objectives to complete as well–processing through certain areas to bless them, bathing and making offerings, receiving https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mByafJxhDYU
Thaipusam is a festival that features a lot of Bridalwork with both deities and spirits. It also involves body mortification, mostly through dermal piercing. This video features close ups of Brides getting pierced. It may not be suitable for all audiences, especially those who have phobias of needles. This is an own voice presentation so we can hear the Bride describe this in his own words. (Many thanks to Cousin Camilo for sharing this with the world.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qmo0BRMeHK4
Prophetic Bridalwork
Prophetic Bridalwork involves all of the above plus the added bonus of receiving a truthful statement about matters beyond human perception. That phrasing is important. If a prophecy is truthful and useful then it is divine. If it is untruthful or not useful (or just gibberish) then it comes from some other source--most likely a daemon. The ability to do this accurately and to be able to spontaneously compose it in verse on the spot provides proof of state. In other words, the proof is in the prophetic pudding.
The Goal: To provide truthful/ useful information that others can act on.
How Does This Work?
The process for this is largely identical to Deity Bridalwork but instead of processing through the town and using their tools to bless the public, the Bride is led to a place of prominence. Music is played and when/if inspired to do so, the Bride will speak truth through spontaneously composed verse. This lasts until the Bride drops into a PTFO (more like slumps). At that point the Deity has departed and the Bride is fed something mundane to fully bring them back to their body. As a personal note, expect them to be completely exhausted and incapable of doing anything important in this state. They can go with the flow, they can talk, they can be social, they may even get up and dance around a little, but they will definitely be trance drunk and they will not be fully functional until they have slept.
Presence
Coming into the presence of a deity is done without any kind of embodiment. It is merely a matter of singing the right songs and doing the right kind of dances. These are (usually) stately and highly formal. Most of the gods are dignified in their conduct but there are a few yahoos in the pantheon that prefer a bit more crash and chaos. (Looking at the entourage of Dionysos and Kybele here.) This can be done without a lot of messing around with other forms of trance but you should at least be able to reliably get yourself in and out of a basic trance before giving it a go. The goal of this one is just unity, oneness, feeling close to divinity. It has an extremely positive impact on the mind, body, and spirit of the participant and that is enough of a reason to do it.
Special Note: Imagine that the single most important holy doctrine in one’s faith was simply “Joy.” The holiness of joy. To experience oneness, enthusiasm, euphoria. To feel compassion and camaraderie with others present, stepping into a communal experience of pure untethered joy.
The Goal: To be in a state of unity.
How Does This Work?
Presence ceremonies are handled by organizations like fraternities. As such they will have several levels of education and experience within them and whatever level you happen to be at determines the ways that you might engage with this. In the beginning you will know nothing but you can observe. As you progress you will learn to sing, learn to dance, and learn the philosophies of the individual group. A lot of latent learning happens during ceremonies but there are also occasions when you just get to learn outside of the confines of a ritual. Learn while awake, put into practice in ceremony.
The movements, songs, and breathwork utilized in a presence ceremony are designed to bring you into a deep and powerful trance. The coordination of it allows for participation from many people at once. It is holy, good, and family friendly. It helps if things are clean, beautiful, and treated with the utmost sanctity.
The presence of the deity is meant to fill every pocket of the self with love and joy. It is a generous, uplifting feeling.
Links:
Semah ceremony from Turkiye. It demonstrates what a formal group presence ceremony can look like with participants dressed formally and engaging in the same movements together. Dancing in a large circle as a group and then making personal spins or turns within that wider circle is an extremely effective method of achieving a trance safely in a large group. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFJ_cgpjFyQ
Semah again, several styles this time. In this one the participants are using coordinated breathwork and well choreographed movements that induce and hold trance. I really like this one because you can clearly see three different types of group dances used in a presence ceremony. You can also hear and see the transitions moving from one holy song to another. Everyone benefits from this. There are dedicated musicians and people who are observing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USccRnT45cQ
Diagnostic Ritual
This one relates to the rites of the Kouretes and Koryvantes and to the Orphic Hymns. The Kouretes and Koryvantes performed a ritual in which people would gather and lay very still while priestly musicians played sacred hymns and their special rhythms. If an individual had done something to offend one (or more) of the theoi, then their bodies would begin to contort and dance around ungracefully when that deity’s thread was played. This person could then afterwards perform the appropriate sacrifices and all would be mended.
The ritual should begin at dusk with the setting sun and end either at or just before dawn. If you finish a few hours early, that's fine as it will then leave room in the night for making those aforementioned sacrifices. In addition to their own rhythms and melodies, each deity will also have a scent trigger (incense) burned at the start of their hymn. Offerings are not made until the end of the ritual though.
The Goal: Bring peace between humanity and the gods. How Does This Work?
This is done largely the same as a spirit possession ritual and I strongly suspect that this is the origin of all possession rituals in the Med. Special Note: To my eyes, this is what the Orphic Hymns look like they were built to do if sung in order from start to finish.

Dean’s gone. He carried his brother out the door, whilst he was distracted by the light coming from above; the whisperings, which had promptly sealed behind them. The same door that’s heating up now so much he’s got to let go of the handle. He hits it with his fists, thinks he might have better luck ramming it with his shoulder but knows it won’t really make a difference.
So he turns, wiping the blood off his chin with the back of his hand, and it’s sticky and hot on his skin. Kind of like the light that should be blinding him but somehow is not. It’s lukewarm, more than hot, and in it Adam sees the world. As it is now and as it was when only holy things walked it. And unholy things. He hears clamouring, the heavenly hosts sounding what his brain distantly supplies are the trumpets of apocalypse, but also the dissonant music that played at the beginning, before order was imposed. He hears the song of creation and the agony of every demon that fell to this power and… he hears his name.
Adam Milligan.
He falls to his knees, barely feeling the floor under him, barely registering these are his knees. He tries to hold on to that thought, to keep his head, but it’s a mistake. Instead of the joints that should be familiar to him by this stage of his life, he’s aware of them in a clinical, distant way. He recognises it at first, nothing he hasn’t seen in his classes, but being able to name the components of the biggest joints in his body is radically different to experiencing them, as separate pieces shifting together as he rests on them.
He knows, theoretically, he’s got two patellas, hugged in place by the synovial membrane. He didn’t know, isn’t sure he knows now the way they rest, so tenderly against his tibias and femurs, and when he tries rising from his place, he’s overwhelmed. The thought becoming action through his neural connections, the strain of his muscles, the shift on his ligaments is pure ecstasy. He stays on the ground, experiencing his bone cells for the first time like a blind man who’s been healed.
And that’s merely the beginning. His blood beats strongly at the weight on his calves, and he can feel the valves on his veins opening and closing as a symphony that seems in counterpoint to… it’s not even a voice now. Zachariah had spoken like a human, wild energy disguised by a Mad Men extra facade, and this is different. After his name, the archangel only hums above him, giving him the feeling of being under a microscope. His body shakes, muscles contracting against each other in turns, and he thinks he’ll go mad if he’s got to think of the anatomy of terror when he realises he isn’t afraid.
He gains his feet at last, and it’s a reverie. This is how he’s meant to walk, these are his cervical vertebrae shifting against his discs so he can look up. As he’s meant to look up to the heavens. And it’s no god he sees now, but three right hands reaching down for him. They’re each half as big as he is, and he counts eighteen fingers.
The deep breath he takes to ground himself is as ill advised as anything, he doesn’t know if the pleural fluid pulling his lungs open is burning or ice cold, and when he makes to take a step back the mess of sulci and gyri that his brain is manages to get it wrong and he’s advancing towards those reaching, almost monstrous hands. He wants to hold them, or to be held by them, and still, when a left hand appears out of nowhere he freezes. Every cell, every atom in him torn between the pursuit of divinity and the hold of humanity. A thousand thoughts dart through his mind about how he’s supposed to speak when he can’t catch his breath even as he manages it.
‘Mi… chael.’
He’s encouraged as his voice seems to fit into the spaces of the angel’s behest, multiplying in languages he doesn’t speak until it echoes not as Michael but as Mikal and Mikael and Michahel and a question he’s not ready to answer, and it sounds like paradise and it sounds like nigh perdition and a salvation which isn’t free. It’s coming from everywhere and somehow, from himself in a determined cadence of let me in let me in let me in.
‘Defend me in battle.’ He nods his assent and tacks on belatedly, ‘please.'
For a second, or a fraction of a second, the archangel stands before him, past the room that became his prison to become his launchpad; and he can see all of him, and it’s a riot of what might be feathers or might be scales, or bone or fur, flayed muscle or something different altogether. As much as he knows his own body, Adam understands he doesn’t know the first thing about the being that beats rather than stands now before him. Or maybe only the first thing, since that second is all it takes for him to know. This angel is his deliverance.
Everything changes when Michael takes possession of his vessel. He’s the first archangel, he’s endless, he’s divine purpose. And yet, in taking on what this human offers he’s no less unending. What’s he got to gain from a mortal that’s not even his sword is something he doesn’t understand, and even that riddle feels like something he lacked beforehand.
This is how Adam Milligan’s eyes see, how they blink, how the fibres of muscle on his irises adjust when his vision focuses on things at different distances. He checks his memories quickly for a mirror, to see his eyes are blue. Somehow, he’s glad they are, and glad this is how his face looks. In the memory, he’s staring critically at his hair, trying to decide whether he should cut it. His hair, this is how it feels when it falls on his forehead, and this is the height at which he deals with this world. He lifts his hands, and this is undoubtedly a sight the human is familiar with. And, inexplicably, this is how it feels when his right zygomaticus major twitches to make the corner of his lips pull upwards.
This isn’t his perfect vessel, this isn’t John Winchester, this is… he dares not think it. As an angel, he is providence, and it’s his to shape unlikely events into the predestined outcome. Yet, standing still now; feeling himself come to know this body, he finds the borders blurring. And he accepts, easier than he should, that Adam Milligan his own providence.
