Though you may be let go - or killed - what is sure is that you will be left as poor as a beggar.

Unfortunately, this would also mean that one or two men - and then soon the entire band - will scream out that they got a woman among them. There's a possibility that they could only find out if they get close if you do not present yourself as female but unfortunely, no matter how well you hide yourself, through examinating your person, everyone would sure to find out.

So in a case like this, the band will not kill you (unless Thorkell commands so) because this is a win for them! They can kill Askeladd and the rest, take the prince and sell you off! Oh, this day has been blessed by the gods for sure!

And if not, they can still kill you off if you cause them too much trouble. Women are like fish in the ocean.

The scene is set - Thorkell waves his axe as he calls out to Thorfinn. Lookie what we got here! Not your boss but that friend of yours! Don't you want to help them?

You're being held down by your head, a knee on your back as a blade is dancing across your neck. The men taunt and threaten you, definitely causing a few bruises in just minutes. They go along with Thorkell's plan to see if this really might work or not!

They wave your precious possesions in front of your eyes before tucking them into their own pockets or throwing them into the snow.

And in the case of being female, they unfortunately will also touch you. Let out comments while hovering near in a way that makes you gag.

Thorfinn sees all this. He screams out before racing down the hill. His screams are first akin to mindless noises before he finds his words and spits out insults and threats at every single one present.

Dont they dare hurt you, touch you, be near you! It's the most pure, basic insults he throws their way. Nothing they haven't heard before.

Thorkell offers to duel for you. Yet only if he really, really fights him. Thorkell wants to truly fight against the Son of Thors - the child of the strongest man he has ever known.

If he refuses, Thorkell wouldn't mind a single thing his men might do to you.

"I'll kill you, I'll kill all of you!" Thorfinn interrupts the man before he can even finish his demands. His daggers out with his back hunched like a predator. His face is as dark as thunder.

He sees you in the grasp of a small group and yells out again before speeding towards where you were - only to be kicked back by Thorkell. Come now, you didn't even let him finish. He's being serious when he says he wants to see him fight!

The men laugh but the young lad doesn't care. He doesn't care about the 'honor' nor about Thorkell and his band. He only needs to get you out of there.

Thorfinn fights with the intent to kill. Like all of this isn't a duel of honor, like Thorkell isn't even an enemy but something beyond that. Something beyond deserving his hatred. He is focused and quick, each swing of his dagger going for every single vulnerable spot he can find. His eyes seem...not there. Darting and empty as he just has the giant in his sight.

He is covered in bruises, snow and blood but he does not relent.

The men surround the two and watch in awe and laughter. Betting and cussing, clapping along the way. The small group that holds you down watch as well but some might end up bored if they have to keep on watching you, hands on you to keep you low, knees in the cold snow...they can't even properly watch the duel! They have to stick their heads up to the sky to even see the flying blades above the heads of the others...How boring they have to play watchmen.

So some try to ease their boredom with you.

Some might take more of your possesions than they were told, some torture you, cutting ever so thinly into your flesh, while others want to just have a feel of your flesh. They taunt and laugh at your misery, their awful breath poisoning you as they mutter all kinds of ideas on what they could do with you.

However, there are two possibilities that could happen for Thorfinn to truly freak out and abandon the duel.

One of these things is when you are severly hurt. He'd have to hear you scream out and he'd whip his head into your direction. You could be stabbed, strangled or hurt in any other way. Thorfinn screams like a banshee, like an animal mother watching her children get hurt. He drops Thorkell here and there before running to the perpetrators and killing them on the spot. He jumps onto them, stabbing them several times to death before holding onto you. He is out of breath and needs to collect himself first before he can escape with you. But Thorkell will be sure to get in the way of that.

The other possibility is when you are harrassed. It gets him especially when it is done to you as a woman.

Any kind of action, any kind of comments make him roar like a beast and he also jumps on them to kill them.

Thorfinn doesn't care about the duel or Thorkell, no matter how many times he drags them back to the fight. He has to get you back, he has to.

The many men laugh and mock him. How could anyone be so foolish to fight against the Thorkell the Tall and risk their life for some kid? It's entertaining as well as embarassing.

Once Thorfinn wins however, he will shout to the sky in victory and rush towards you, scream at the others to let you go.

He hugs you tight, with his daggers still in hand and panting like a dog. Blood is all over him.

He would need a few minutes, the men distancing themselves in awe and fear as this...lad killed his way through to you. After calming down he asks as you are okay before getting the hell out of there.

You wanted to earn some extra money, and at the same time still have time to study, meet friends and rest a bit. Working in the cafe was relaxing and really enjoyable; the smell of coffee, cookies and ice cream was lovely. You felt like you were on vacation at your grandma’s house.

↘ Lawliet was obviously one of the regular customers who just went to the cafe where you worked on a sunny day. I suppose he’d be a bit surprised to see a new face behind the cash register who also had great use of a coffee machine and knowledge of making hot drinks.

↘ For a short moment he would be watching you from his table, and as soon as you noticed him – it wasn’t hard to notice the strangely seated dark-haired man – you came closer to him, asking what he wanted at that moment. Of course, you recommended some things and he nod his head.

↘ I think he would be distrustful and at the same moment very curious about your person. In any case, he then asked for three different pieces of cake (chocolate one, with strawberries and whipped cream, and an apple pie) and one large coffee with a lot of brown sugar. He also asked for a cup of ice cream and extra waffles.

↘ “... You like sweet things a lot, don’t you?” You asked with a slight smile, hiding the notebook in the pocket of your black apron.

↘ For a brief moment, the young man was silent, and when he looked into your shiny eyes, he nodded slightly once again. His gaze measured you from head to toe a second later.

↘ “Yes, I really like sweet things.” He pushed one corner of his mouth up and you just blushed on your cheeks and whole nose. You quickly apologized to the male, saying you were going to prepare his order, and he just chuckled.

↘ Now he was definitely more curious about you. You seemed 98% trustworthy (he took the 2% from you because you wrote with a green pen and it was a bit crazy for him).

↘ First meeting? Definitely at some loud party full of alcohol and heavy music. I think you would have a great time on the dance floor with your friends who pulled you out of the house for the first time in a long time (you know; work and study, family problems, fatigue and a simple aversion to life).

↘ Your dress perfectly matched your figure and hairstyle, and you danced to one of your favorite songs with a huge smile, while singing its lines loudly. Your three female friends had as much fun as you, drinking beer or other stronger drinks.

↘ Mihael would have noticed you at the very beginning; since you entered the club in the basement, his eyes were on you the whole time. He watched your face, smile, body, hand movements and lips as they moved to the beat of the song. He was fucking delighted with you, and at the same time, for the first time in his life, he felt the shyness in his heart. It was strange, new and interesting for him, not gonna lie.

↘ For the next few minutes of the party, he totally didn’t know how to start a conversation with you. Fortunately, after another quarter of an hour, he no longer had to think about a way and an excuse to approach you.

↘ At one point, Mello noticed that one of the club’s guests was harassing you and offering you a drink in an unpleasant way. You tried to politely push the insistent teenager away from you, but the man did not give up. 

↘ Only upset Mihael, who took the gun out from behind his back, made the twenty-x-year-old apologize to you and quickly run away from the dance floor, and then probably from the party venue.

↘ Delighted by the behavior of a stranger, you thanked him with a slight smirk on your lips.

↘ “You didn’t accept a drink from him, but will you make an exception for me? They serve good Martini here.” He asked uncertainly, and you just nodded.

↘ Well... Your friends were always right that you really like bad boys.

↘ It’s hard for me to say where your first meeting would take place, but after a short while a very simple and logical headcanon came to my mind.

↘ I think you would be the sister/cousin/daughter of one of the people who worked for Nate and that is how you would get to know each other (over time).

↘ When he saw you for the first time, he would be fascinated; you were really beautiful to him and just plain interesting, but on the other hand he was afraid of you. 

↘ Even if you were close to one of his employees, he had to be careful and alert. Nevertheless, he would watch you closely every time you visit your family at their workplace.

↘ It would take days or even weeks for Nate to speak to you; I think it would be something as simple as asking for help with paperwork or making a domino together. But you would be very glad and very blushed at his precious proposal.

But once you're there, I can promise you that he isn't letting go that easily! He's your problem now! >:P

Isn't big on PDA at all. He has a image to keep and he doesn't want his team mate to see him weakened (by your charm)! Well- actually its more like he's trying to save both you and himself from their never ending teasing

cause oooo boy!! Those boys are RELENTLESS!! Its such an odd and rare sight for them to see the might hero of time is such a...soft state! You turn the frightening grizzly bear into disgruntled teddy bear with a simple kiss to his cheek!

This isn't to say he'll shove you off of him if you come to hug him, but he will give you a gentle reminder as he gives you a soothing but small rub to your arm before pulling back.

BUT behind closed doors/away from prying eyes?? He will take your loving in strides! (he still gets flustered when you hold hands) The hero will let you smother him until he does need to take a step back to calm down--

His favourite acts of affection to receive (tho he wont admit it) are kisses on the tips of his fingers while you cup his names! He doesn't know why but the act just makes him melt

And before you know it, two shaking heroes are hid behind you as your dashing lover comes to a screeching halt infront of you. All you can do is give him a raised eyebrow and curious smirk and boom! legendary hero defeated (turned in a small flustered mess)

But that's not to say you don't quietly chew out the two heroes! Nono! Time is still your lover and you don't appreciate the heroes riling him up so much. This tends to end up with u pull the heroes along to give the hero an apology (if they actually did do something to make him angry/upset) when you darling had the chance to calm down.

Overall, you're relationship is one that starts slow as the hero gets used to being loved once more. It's a lot of figuring out what does and doesn't work within your relationship and how to navigate those challenges!

But even with the difficulties, the hero can and will love you with his full heart (no matter how cold the others say it is) and will do everything in his power to make sure you're kept safe and happy!

Honestly my theory for why ppl r very set on the father/son interpretation is everyone’s immediate thought on to how to make the power imbalance between them seem less uncomfortable is to apply a parental interpretation to it. Which is fine ofc, I get it, but the way ppl push it as canon a lot kind of grates on me a little bc they’re usually incredibly passive aggressive and pushy even if u clearly designate ur post as ship OTL

Also not really a fan of the characterizations either since ppl tend to treat Xiao like a moody teenager Zhongli has to reel in (this is hilariously reminiscent of the post I made about how ppl handle scaramouche and nahida a bit ago haha). And idk I just feel kind of polarized about the headcanon overall bc I associate it with people being really uncomfortable and frustrating about zx

I just like how there’s sort of an imbalance to them, some zxs like them being more fluffy and functional but I sort of like it where it’s not like, entirely dysfunctional but I’m prioritizing a specific kind of character study over romance. This tends to be how a lot of my ships go ngl I just sometimes enjoy the intensity/intimacy of romantic feelings thrown into the mix if it makes it interesting but I’m not often interested in a lot of my ships following more standard romance plots(?) I guess? Unless it’s specific ones. Which sounds clinical when I put it like that but this is just bc I am very aromantic NHFBVJVJ

When I say codependency in zhongxiao honestly it’s sort of a theoretical(?) codependency—not sure how to word it? I think Xiao would be really fucked up if he didn’t have Zhongli in his life suddenly but I don’t think his relationship with getting attached to people invokes what people would majorly think of when they think of codependency in a ship I suppose. It’s moreso I just feel Xiao could be at his worst with dehumanizing himself in comparison to other people with Zhongli, because said mental state is driven by how he feels about debt, service, and duty which are very closely tied with devotion and how he would feel about someone he considers his god and leader, as well as someone who saved him

It’s fun this is paired with Zhongli who generally knows how to work with Xiao kind of understands the self destructive depth Xiao’s loyalty/devotion comes with. Also fun they have been around each other for a very long time and Xiao as one of the adepti is familiar with the past I think Zhongli appreciates having around. They work but it’s also a case where Zhongli is in such a position of power over Xiao its kind of very delicate situation that’s hard for both of them to navigate. Which is fun to explore. I esp love contrasting it with other Xiao pairings (actually i think i still have that xiaoven fic up on my ao3 where I tried to convey a specific interpretation of them in a similar exploration vein too)

I totally get why people wouldn’t like it (I feel a lot of my opinions on xiao ships just clash with a lot of fandom consensus so bad all the time And it’s just bc I’m like this I’m not even trying to be contrarian or anything. HELDINCJD) but I just tend to handle shipping in a specific way. It’s not I don’t enjoy fluffy or lighthearted zl and xiao stuff I actually enjoy it a lot I just like there being layers. This makes it feel more impactful when I think about how Zhongli looks out for Xiao in canon or how Xiao gets like textually flustered talking to him (lantern rite 2023 was so tailored to my tastes it’s not even funny)

i quickly searched my jean pockets until i found a rough metal box that made my fingers cold instantly. i took it out of the denomination and folded the cap. my thumb ran along both sides of the box. a small but fiery flame blasted from above. it shook in the air waiting for me to ignite it. but it only reached the end of the cylinder. immediately a thick smog enveloped each of my scenes bitterly.

the cigarette seemed to fit perfectly between my thin fingers like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle. Smoke arose and formed a work of art. i applied it to my lips and let the craft flow into my breath. my breathing became more relaxed. every time i inhaled, i exhaled gently in an amazing pattern. i closed my eyes effortlessly. i continued to breathe in silence. the smoke was carried by the wind. It made its way along the melody of the rain thundering on the patio floor. 

"hi." i heard a raspy voice say and almost immediately i felt cold hands wrap around my waist.

"hi."

"what are you doing?" he asks clearly still half asleep.

"nothing. go back to sleep, you idiot. you're clearly tired."

"hm.. nope."

"why are you stubborn? go, now."

"nope."

"fine, stay then."

"why do you want me gone that badly?" he asks with a laugh but then spots the cigarette between my lips. "uh, i thought you stopped that?"

"huh?" i ask confused by his question but then remember the cigarette in my hand. "ohh. yeah, i did. well i tried to. didn't work very well." i say putting it back in between my lips again.

"right. give me that."

"what? oh you want a go? okay."

he grabs the cigarette from my lips and just when i think he's about to put it in between his lips, he drops it on the floor and smushes it till the flame goes out.

"hey what the fuck! i was using that!" i say angrily looking at him smirking. "it's not funny. stop smirking, you idiot." i say lightly pushing him.

"oh it is so funny. why are you so upset about a cigarette anyway?"

i stay silent for a while. when i finally lift my head up to look at him, he's looking at me with patience. he seems to understand. "helps me cope, i guess." i say while trying to grab another but i'm stopped by him grabbing the box from my hand. "hey! give that back!"

"nope. mine now."

"wow okay."

"you really gotta stop this.." he says hiding the box in his pocket which he zips up making it harder for me to reach for it considering its by his side.

i read a post once (lost it again, as usual) where someone was expressing their annoyance when headcanons/redesigns/big departures from canon stuff was annoying to see in the Main Fandom Tags (i.e. tagging the name of a show or character). ive also seen multiple posts where people are essentially saying "why not just make ur own oc at this point?" when looking at how folks talk or write or draw their existing favorite characters

but i feel like sometimes they cant be "turned into ocs" because 1) the person who is playing with these characters are obviously a fan of the existing work and are simply just having fun, and 2) sometimes these characters only work because they exist in this world that is not yours, and if you pulled them out of this context then theyre not the characters u were having fun with and its not interesting to think abt anymore.

like headcanons/redesigns/etc. that dont base itself in terms of canon characterizations (im thinking of the "he would not fucking say that" post) can be kind of annoying since they feel kinda weird (what did u like abt the character if the character is completely different when u write them...)

but at the same time who give a shit just have fun and mind your fuckin business

but also i can understand why ppl would be annoyed... idk bc i hardly go through main tags. I just started feeling self conscious because i read that post a while ago (and saw that the notes agreed with that op) and also bc someone i follow also expressed some shame/embarrassment over this as well (even tho i greatly enjoy this artists fanarts because even if they do depart from canon in terms of plain material, the interpretations seem faithful to how the characters exist in canon and are just playing with them).

but anyway this artist talked abt slowly stopping putting the fanart the artist made into main tags and i suddenly felt like i should do the same? i feel like a lot of time my wordgirl fanart especially goes this path of being annoyingly Out There and so different from canon i worry that tagging wordgirl under my fanarts is disingenuous. im not really sure.

I try my best to make them recognizable/keep them faithful to where they came from, but at the same time i try to put my own spin on it, kinda like a good reboot should do (not that im saying im rebooting it, im just playing around).

but if its annoying, I would like to know. if anyones read this far let me know what u think?

That being said Ive been wanting to write for a while but get too anxious over getting the characters wrong…

First off, thank you so much for your kind words!

As a disclaimer, I don't know that I'm much qualified to give writing advice. I have dear friends who are Writers with a capital W; at this point I see myself very much as the hobbiest version: Writer Lite if you will. I don't mean to devalue or discredit my own writing; I just mean to say that...I don't feel like I worry about the things a Writer is supposed to worry about, at least at this point. I write what I want, when and how I want to, and I will regularly and cheerfully sacrifice grammar and canon characterization and pacing on the altar of my own whims.

And tbh, if you're looking at starting out in fanfic specifically, that's probably a good place to start. The stakes are really low so it's a great space to get comfortable. No one is paying you. You don't owe anyone anything. Some people will like your characterizations and style, and other people won't. And (assuming you're a Yuumori fan because you mentioned my writing), the Yuumori fandom is a GREAT place to test the waters, because while the fandom is small and there's never a huge amount of engagement, it's a really polite fandom. Basically everyone here understands the principle of "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

Anywho, practically speaking: I really like to try to vary characters' voices a bit. Sherlock gets his incredibly-irritating-to-write attempt at a Cockney accent. William and Albert are posh but get to swear sometimes because I think it's funny. Moran is just kind of casual; somewhere between the Moriartys and Sherlock. And so on.

If you're trying to stick really closely to canon characterizations, doing some rereading/watching of the source material before you start can definitely help. But it's also worth noting that sometimes fandom has its own interpretation that's widespread but not really sourced from canon. Can any of us prove canonically that Albert Moriarty is bisexual, promiscuous, and a little bit masochistic? Not in the slightest! And yet for some reason a significant portion of us have just gone "yeah that sounds right," and you'll never get shot down for writing him that way. So there's definitely a lot of space to just have fun with it (though acknowledging in your tags/author's notes that something is OOC can help lol.)

Then of course it's just...just do it! Have fun! Make playlists to write to if you're anything like me! Fall down Google rabbit holes researching what Victorians ate for breakfast! Pretend to be confident but not arrogant (I admit, I will sometimes scroll by things where the author is self-deprecating in the summary: it kind of feels like clicking there is agreeing to do some emotional labour, which is usually part of what I'm trying to escape via fic. 😅) Engage with your chosen fandom, and you'll start to see those group-workshopped headcanons that we enjoy reading about just as much as actual canon characterizations; you'll also make friends that way who will be excited to read your fics!
