Black Doom Shows You How to Do Integration by Substitution

Being in space, you would have assumed that you wouldn’t have to worry about things like math and calculus. It wasn’t like you assumed it wouldn’t be involved in space travel, but you assumed that you wouldn’t have to deal with it with this exact space trip, considering you were abducted by aliens and all. You’d assumed that you were going to be eaten, like everyone else who’d been captured. Yet you and a very small number of others hadn’t yet and were instead being put through a number of tests. A few were physical in some way, but most had tested your intelligence. You couldn’t help but feel like a rat in a maze, being tested on how fast we could change our behavior after being electrocuted. Were these aliens, the Black Arms as you now knew they were called, studying you? If they were, then what for?
This specific test was a test of your ability to do calculations. Vaguely you thought back on that comic that was rather popular a while ago, about someone being forced to do algebraic equations to get into heaven, and couldn’t help but feel that this was something like that. The first few questions weren’t too hard for you, you’d never been bad at math. But when you got into the calculus section, you started to get nervous. You’d only learned so much calculus before you’d been, well, abducted by aliens. And one part in particular always go to you. Integrals in general just hadn’t clicked with you yet. You knew how to do it, but you couldn’t always do it right. It didn’t help that the massive ruler of the Black Arms, Black Doom, was watching everyone testing. You were sure it couldn’t be, but it was almost like he was watching you more than the others.
The next question was about just one of these. Of course it was. It asked what the indefinite integral was of the cube root of seven minus tangent t, all multiplied by secant squared of t. Nothing seemed to be going your way. Why did they even to know if you could do integrals anyway? Surely, they were just going to eat you in the end anyway! Why did they need you to work alone too? Wouldn’t this test be just as effective if you could all work together? You tried to solve the problem anyway, if you only could get a little help…
The floating Black Doom started to move through the space, and to your horror, he came towards you! Had you displeased him in some way? You were quite certain this was when you would be eaten, when he said in his low voice, “You struggle. Why do you persist?”
You glanced around, hoping there would be someone else nearby to respond, but no one did, so you answered nervously, “I don’t know how to do this bit. I hadn’t learned it in class yet. I think I can get it though, if someone…” You paused for a moment, considering whether or not this was a test too. Should you say it? Was that against the rules? No one else spoke, and some others clearly struggled too.
He seemed to read your mind as he let out a low laugh. “It is no shame to require assistance,” he said, “The Black Arms are a hive mind, there is a constant cooperation and collaboration between us. I’ve not seen one of your kind request assistance, not in a non-life threating situation. It takes intelligence to be capable of learning and wisdom to be willing to ask questions. Certainly, you are a promising candidate. Come with me, I will show you how to solve problems such as these.”
…what? Black Doom, ruler of the Black Arms, probably a demi-god, destroyer of worlds, was offering to teach you how to do calculus? Called you intelligent and wise? This couldn’t be real. Shakely, you stood and followed the towering alien out of the room. You still weren’t sure you weren’t going to be eaten, but you followed obediently. And how did he know what you were going to ask for help? Could he read your mind?
“Yes,” he said, though you hadn’t spoken a word. You walked with him down a long corridor now. “We’ve partially attuned you and your fellows to the hive mind. You cannot connect to it, but we can examine your thought processes through it. We use it to determine how well you complete the tests to reveal which of you are most suitable.”
“How are you able to do that?” you asked, knowing there’s no point in leaving it unsaid now. You tried not to think about what “suitable” referred to.
“It’s in your food. A psychokinetically active additive makes your small minds more open to us. We need you all alive for now, so you must eat to live.”
“So, it’s like the radioactive compounds in PET scans, but to see our thoughts instead of our brains?”
He glanced at you, giving a judgmental gaze. “They do not have those in the rest of the civilized universe. Most do not put radioactive compounds in their bodies willingly.”
“Oh.” You walked in silence down the long corridor, until you followed him into an antechamber with a giant tablelike structure in the center.
“I will show you how to complete problems like these,” he declared, moving to one side of the table and indicating that you should join him by scaling a massive seat that seemed more like a monolith than a chair. You managed, with a reasonable amount of effort to climb on top of it. “Good,” he said as you gazed up at him, “You struggled with this.” You nodded as he indicated the problem in question.
“It simply a matter of substitution,” he said, using a massive claw to etch the problem on the table.
“You must simply replace one part of the integral with a separate variable, making it easier to integrate.”You weren’t quite sure you knew what he meant, but you nodded along as he etched a separate variable, u, into the table.
He continued. “It would be more difficult to integrate the cube root of 7 tangent t than of a single variable, such as u. To integrate with respect to u, you must also transform dt to du.” He then wrote a derivative equation:
“Why would we take the derivative of u?”, you asked, confused at the seemingly irrelevant step.
“Have patience,” Black Doom snapped, then continued, “If you’d not interrupted, I would have been able to inform you that the derivative of u is taken to isolate du and dt, and their equivalent portions of the equations.” As he took the derivative of 7 minus 7 tangent t, it made more sense; the majority of the derivative was the factor outside of the radical.
“Multiplying both sides by dt isolates du and dt, making it possible to replace secant squared t and dt with an equivalent expression in that makes the integral possible to integrate in terms of u rather than t.”
When he lay it out before you, it seemed far simpler than you thought it would be. “So, you can take a simpler integral rather than a more complicated one by replacing parts of it with equivalent and simpler variables?”
“Correct,” If Black Doom had a mouth, you could have sworn smiled at you. “Your species’ capacity to learn so rapidly is something we valued in you. If I were to name a positive characteristic in your inferior species, it would be that.”
You gave a weak smile in response, somewhat concerned by his phrasing. You watched him write the edited integral.
This integral was far more reasonable to deal with, a simple matter really. You etched the integrated solution on the table in your smaller hand writing with your writing utensil, something between a pencil and marker.
Black Doom nodded approvingly. “There is but one more step,” he said, “to replace u with what it was originally substituted for.”
“That’s the solution then?” you confirmed.
“Indeed,” he replied. “You are certainly a most suitable candidate. Very adaptable and obedient. I shall keep you in mind for later. Now return to your fellows. Do not bother with completing more of this test, your progress has been deemed satisfactory.”
You nodded and rushed towards the exit, then paused for a moment. “Thank you,” you said, trying not to make your voice shake.
Black Doom looked at you curiously for a moment, after which he said, “As you should. Now begone!”
As you turned and returned to the first chamber you were in, you gave the test you’d completed in a pile of other completed tests and returned to a group of your fellow abductees.
“Oh my chaos!” one gasped as you returned, “You’re alive! We thought for sure you got eaten!”
You shook your head. “No,” you said, “Actually, Black Doom explained calculus to me.”
“You’re clowning? You’re not clowning? I sense clowns.”
“No, I’m serious.” You turned away. “I think there’s something more going on here, though,” you whispered, “I’ve told you before I think they’re studying us, right?”
The others nodded, and some of the Black Arms nearby almost imperceptibly tensed, shifting.
You glanced around, “I think these tests are for more than just study,” you said softly, “I think there’s a bigger goal here. We’re candidates for something. These are just the preliminary tests to determine which of us is best for the real experiment.”
The rest of the group recoiled. “Surely not?” one chuckled nervously. “I mean, the aliens wouldn’t have told you their real plan, right?”
You opened your mouth to double down, but one of the Black Arms jerked their head and reached for a phaser at the edge of your vision. “You’re probably right,” you said, keeping your eye on the alien, “just a theory.”
The group visibly relaxed and so did the surrounding Black Arms. You didn’t though. What had happened still didn’t feel real to you. But as much as you knew something else was going on, you pushed it to the back of your mind, in a place you hoped the Black Arms couldn’t find.

Let's write the whole story in following
The light beam (1.16 million km per second) started its motion from Mercury orbit moves toward Pluto orbit– by that– we consider Mercury orbit is the origin point-
Now- we should notice- No planet is created yet- the motion from Mercury orbit to Pluto orbit defines the motion direction- and No planet is created before this motion end nor during this motion- the planets will be created after this motion is finished means when the light 1.16 million km per second reaches to Pluto (orbit)- after this event – the planets will be created –as I will explain later

The light (1.16 million km per second) creates the distances by its motion- means- the light moves from Mercury point to Venus point– the distance from Mercury to Venus was not found and is created only by the light motion through it for first time- means – before the light motion this distance was NOT found- It's found after the light moves through this distance for first time-
This is similar to the blood motion through the arteries, the blood creates these arteries and the blood moves through these arteries, but the blood created these arteries with its first motion and that needed energy- but – after the arteries creation the blood move through them without any energy is required- means- the first motion is the most important one because by it the arteries are created
Shortly- The space is created from the energy of this light beam its speed 1.16 million km per second – NOW- after the Space creation- the light beam energy is decreased because of the energy consumption in the space creation process- and the rest energy is one light beam its speed is (C=300000 km/s =the light known speed) – But - We understand that- it's the same one light beam- its speed was 1.16 million km /s before the space creation- and the light created the space and that caused to consume the light energy and that caused to decrease the light speed to be 300000 km/s
Shortly- the light beam started its motion from Mercury (orbit) with speed 1.16 million km /s and reaches to Pluto (orbit) with a speed 300000 km/s because of the energy consumption in the space creation process
Let's give example to explain this idea
Imagine we create A Sea Of Water- we use energy to create this sea of water- now we have some energy and we use this energy to create this sea of water- BUT- our energy is NOT spent completely But there's a small part still rest with us – this small part of energy is used to create one wave moves through this sea and this wave speed is 300000 km/s (I suppose the space is similar to the sea of water)
Now – the rest energy is found in one light beam its speed 300000 km/s and this light beam is found NOW in Pluto Orbit – and this light beam will be reflected from Pluto orbit toward the inner planets– means- the rest energy will move in the reflected direction to the original light motion direction.
This idea will be explained in details in the next point- shortly
The light beam (300000 km/s) will be reflected from Pluto toward the inner planets
AND the light 300000 km/s will meet the original light beam (1.16 million km per second) in the origin point (in fact – beside the origin point) and there's a coherence of light is done between the light beam (300000 km/s) and the light beam (1.16 million km per second) – this coherence of light is proved strongly- we have to ask (how can that be possible while the light beam 1.16 million km /s is consumed and the new light beam 300000 km/s is the rest energy? how this light beam (300000 km/s) can meet the original one (1.16 million km per second)? in points no. The light beam (1.16 million km per second) uses the period 629 seconds to pass a new distance = 729 million km (Mercury Jupiter distance is 721 million km error 1%) – where 629 million km = Jupiter Earth distance

The light beam (1.16 million km per second) uses the period 671 seconds to pas a new distance =778.6 million km (Jupiter orbital distance)
where 671 million km = Jupiter Venus distance
by this method the light creates the distances based on each other- and that makes all distances to be created depends on one another and that makes all distances in the solar system to be One Network where all distances are created based on the same One Geometrical Design

Mars had migrated from its original orbit (Mars original orbit was between Mercury and Venus) and Pluto had migrated also (Pluto Was The Mercury Moon revolves around Mercury and Pluto size was equal Mercury size)
The planets migration caused a serious risk for the solar system geometrical design- Uranus was the first planet tried to repair the solar system geometrical design and to save it- by that
Uranus created a vertical effect on Jupiter orbit to fix Jupiter in its orbit and prevent it to migrate with the migrant planets- and based on Jupiter orbit the other planets orbits are modified – that supported the solar system original design and saved it which causes to protect the geometrical design from the destruction.

That causes Jupiter orbit to be the most important orbit in the solar system- the paper third hypothesis explains the planets migration and Jupiter orbit analysis is done with the solar system design analysis (I-11*)

The previous explanation told us that we have 2 light beams-
The original light beam its speed (1.16 million km per second) and it started its motion from Mercury orbit to Pluto orbit (where Mercury orbit is the light motion origin point) – and this light beam created all distances in the solar system and lost its energy in the space creation process and the rest energy is one light beam its speed is (C=300000 km/s)
The other light beam is the rest energy- its speed is (C=300000 km/s) and it moves in a reflected direction from Pluto toward Venus and Mercury-
Now – we have a coherence of light between these two light beams- the coherence is proved by powerful proves BUT firstly we have to ask (how can this coherence be occurred)? Because the original light (1.16 million km/s) is consumed and its energy is used already and the rest energy is this light its speed is (300000 km/s) - HOW can the light (1.16 million km/s) meet the light (300000 km/s)??
Imagine we have (116 dollars) and we spent all money except (30 dollars)- how can this (30 dollars) meet the original money (116 dollars)??
Let's write the answer
Suppose the light beam (300000 km/s) moves in the reflected direction (in the space) and also (in the time) – that can enable the light (300000 km/s) to meet the original one (1.16 million km/s) in the past and the coherence will be done there in the past- and we see the coherence results and effects on the solar system -
Means – the light (300000 km/s) moves into the past and found the original light (1.16 million km/s) in the past

The original light beam (1.16 million km/s) can NOT move toward the future to meet the light (300000 km/s) because in the future the original light beam (1.16 million km/s) is NOT found –by that – the coherence can't be occurred in the future - But – the light (300000 km/s) can move into the past because this light beam (300000 km/s) was found in the past because it's a part of the original light beam (1.16 million km/s)

I prove the coherence is done by powerful proves- that tells- this idea is a fact–means- there's a strong proof tells (in fact the light beam 300000 km/s moved into the past) and if we can use this feature practically we can get photos from the past events and by that we can have photos from the catastrophe which killed the dinosaurs and know much better about what had happened really in that time - This can be a real machine of time – the light motion into the past is a strong method to perform this invention.

The distances in the solar system is created together based on one design and by one motion- this one motion is the light motion (1.16 million km per second) and the light creates the distance and after that the light uses the created distance as a period of time to create another distance, and by that, the light created all distances in one network together based on one geometrical design and this creation of the distances is done before any planet creation- the data clearly and strongly proves the hypothesis.
NOTICE - The total distances in the solar system (the orbital and inner distances) are 45 distances, the previous data used almost 50% of these distances (because many distances are equal in the solar group – for example – (Saturn orbital distance = Mars orbital circumference)- this distances equality makes the previous data behave in place of around 50% of all distances- and no logic to suppose these all distances are rated by the way with the rate (1.16)!!

You sat in bed, staring down your notebook, eyes narrowed. Limits stared back at you. You were just about at your own limit, if you were being honest.
Your brain, however sharp and witty it may be, is absolutely not one designed for calculus. A literary analysis essay? Done in half an hour. In depth scientific research project? Easiest months of your life. But there’s something about finding the instantaneous rate of change of a curve at one point in time by finding the slope of a tangent line that hasn't clicked yet.
A slew of other papers- notes, practice worksheets printed from obscure websites, and formulas- surround you, a sea of unfinished thoughts from the past month of the semester.
You bite on the end of your pen, the little hope you had for a good grade in this class slipping further and further away with each passing moment, like the last ember dying in the remains of a fire.
What you really wanted to be doing was celebrating Spencer’s birthday with him right now. A chocolate cake lay on the kitchen counter and pasta simmers on the stove, but you and your boyfriend had agreed to do a solid hour of work before the celebrations ensued.
You were never particularly strong willed when it came to following through on such agreements.
“Teach me calculus,” you say, a very impressive three minutes later, flopping down on the couch. Your head makes its way to its forever resting spot, Spencer’s lap. He raises his eyebrows slightly, thumb reaching out to trace over the slope of your nose. His eyes flit between you and the file to the side of him.
“I thought we agreed on an hour.”
“Yeah. But it wouldn’t be a very productive hour if I didn’t know how to do what I have to do. And I missed you.”
He sighs quietly, closing the file next to him.
“What do you not understand?” You smile at that, loving how quickly you won.
“Related rates. Like, conceptually.”
Spencer hums in response.
“It’s October. You’re not even supposed to know related rates yet.”
“Fine. Then let's open presents,” you respond, smiley. His eyebrows get impossibly higher, hand stroking your cheek delicately.
“No. I want our night to be a little more stress free when we celebrate, okay? How about you think about that lovely cake you made for me. What if I decided to squash it so that the diameter would get bigger, going from…let’s say, 20 centimeters to 26 centimeters in 3 seconds, and the height would get smal-”
“That wouldn't be nice. It took me like four hours,” you interrupt, grumbling. He cracks a smile.
“For the sake of the example, let's say I was an awful boyfriend and really wanted to ruin all the hard work you put in for me.”
You roll your eyes.
“Hey,” he says, hand moving down to touch your jaw softly. “Don’t do that. Don’t be difficult. I’m helping you.”
“Sorry. I guess I need you to zoom out a little. I don’t really get why I’m learning this as a whole.” Spencer’s eyes pore into yours, staring down at you adoringly for a small moment as he comes up with an answer.
“Calculus helps us begin to explain the unexplainable by harnessing what we can,” Spencer says simply. “Einstein once said that, ‘Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas,’ which makes it simple in practice, but I actually like to think about it as the opposite philosophically. Trying to find logic in the more poetic ideas.”
You cuddle deeper in his lap.
“Think he would agree with that?” you ask. “I do answer to Einstein before you, unfortunately.” Spencer bends down to kiss your hair.
“I think so. He also had a really nice quote where he remarked that, ‘Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love.’ He said, ‘How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.’”
Spencer takes a deep breath.
“Math doesn’t explain how I love you. It can’t. But I love the fact that it tries to. It kinda makes you wanna learn it as best you can.”
You process that for a long second and nod. He keeps talking.
…
Presents get opened, and cake gets eaten before dinner. Of course.
You’re now in bed, on top of the covers, forcing Spencer to give you a fashion show of the new sweater vest and tie you got him. He turns to you after putting it on, and you beam.
“I really like it. You look great. Do you like it?” you ask. He nods, smiling back at you.
“I’m gonna wear it to work tomorrow.”
You beckon for Spencer to come closer, sitting up in bed. Your hands go out to the tie, tugging at the knot softly. He stares down at you until eventually interrupting your motions with a slow kiss, hands cupping your face.
“You’re so pretty,” he mutters.
He pulls away and finishes what you started, folding the tie neatly and setting it in the drawer. Then comes the vest, and soon enough, he’s just in his boxers.
“You’re the pretty one,” you say quietly. “Come to bed.” He crawls on next to you, tugging you into his arms. “Happy birthday, Spence. I love you.” He dips his forehead to your shoulder.
“I love you.”
Before you know it, he’s shifted on top of you, moving down. Fast. You blink, hard, trying to rid your head of the hazy endorphins as you register what he’s doing.
“What? No, I was gonna do that. It’s your birthday. You don’t have to,” you protest.
“But I really, really want to, darling girl,” he murmurs back, kissing your knee and softly pushing it to the side.
You fluster and Spencer just looks at you, fingers tracing shapes on your waist, waiting for you to be ready.
“Well. Um. Okay. If you insist. I can’t really deny the birthday boy.” Your voice is small, and a little giddy smile grows on your face. Of course Spencer Reid would want to give you head on his birthday.
He smiles a little against the bare skin of your hip where your top meets your shorts. Then he meets your eyes.
“You know you can, though, right?” he asks, voice a little more serious. You reach out to touch his hair softly.
“Yeah. I know.”
Fingers hook your shorts, gently pulling them down. He presses a kiss to your thigh, and then he suddenly looks down at it.
“Soft,” he murmurs, like he’s making a mental note. He presses another, and another, incrementally going closer and closer to your soaked through underwear. His eyebrows scrunch when he sees the wet spot. “All this from a few kisses?”
You blush, unable to respond.
Spencer’s fingers hook a centimeter of your underwear. “These?” he checks.
“Yes, please,” you manage. He tugs them down, silently noticing the slickness of your sex, and exhales shakily.
“How many times on average does it take for a guy to call you pretty on a given day before you get annoyed?” he murmurs, soft smile playing on his face. You smile too, head cloudy from his words, but it immediately drops when his lips press directly against your pulsing clit, kissing it softly.
“Fuck,” you say (Spencer would argue moan) softly (loudly). You let out a content sigh, and he moves to suckle it, actions becoming less and less delicate.
It’s not harsh, but incessant. Spencer knows what you can take. He knows exactly what you can take. You’re both quiet for a bit, save for your breathy moans.
“Spencer,” you say softly, ripping you both out of your individually hazy and dirty and distracted minds. “You’re too far away.” He looks up to you, face parallel to your aching core, hair beautifully messy and mouth glistening.
After a second, he grabs your hips, gently pushing you up against the pillows so you’re propped up at a better angle. He then shifts his body up wordlessly so he’s more above you, dipping his head down to give you a soft kiss. You taste yourself, tongue darting out to lick your lips.
His hand takes over where his mouth was, sliding in between your folds with a practiced ease. Spencer looks down at you, eyes wide and flitting between yours, searching for a reaction.
You reach out and wrap your arms around him, holding him close. “Holy shit, I love you,” you murmur.
His fingers lightly graze your clit again before one slides into you. “Angel,” he breathes out, so quietly. “I love you too. This okay? Are you okay?”
You nod feverishly and lift your hips to meet his hand, always in a perpetual state of wanting more, to be closer. Your bodies are melded so close together, barely giving him room to push his hand into you. He doesn’t even bother to ask you to use your words or keep your hips down, like he might on a regular night.
He pulls his head back to watch as he pushes another finger into you, stretching you just a little. “There we go. You always feel like heaven around me.”
Your eyes flit up to his face as he says those words, now having a little more room to observe him. You focus on the slope of his nose and curve of his mouth.
“You’re so perfect,” you say quietly, adoringly, before you even realize it was true.
You blink at that thought. Spencer Reid is perfect, despite whatever universal odds deeming that impossible.
Those graphs, those formulas, now laying discarded & crumpled on the ground. They click, a little bit. You understand why Albert Einstein wanted to spend his life developing theories of relativity.

It's so important to me that Breq does not support either side of Anaander Mianaai's civil war. Like given the events of the first book I half expected her to join forces with the side of Anaander who didn't destroy Justice of Toren against the side that did, but that's not the kind of story it is. Her first priority is to find and protect Lieutenant Awn's family. And by the third book her objective is to keep the residents of Athoek System safe (including Station itself). It's just so helpful to me to have this story where the fabric of society is ripping apart on an incomprehensible scale, and our hero is someone who chooses a specific group of people and says, I will keep them safe. Not "I will save the universe" or "I will prevent collapse" or "I will fix it all," just "I will do what I can to keep this population safe amidst the chaos." So even during big action scenes, harm mitigation is central to Breq's calculus. She's trying to establish trade with the Presgr for medical correctives bc she recognizes the need for medical infrastructure independent of the Radch empire. She's pushing for mundane repairs. She's supporting workers unionizing. It's not sexy it's not action packed it's just a grounded response to crisis. She doesn't waste time engaging in the rhetorical stakes of the intra-Anaander conflict, she just gets to work helping people. I think it's a good example of how to handle problems that feel paralyzingly large.

~ ♡ my non-basic study secrets that actually work ♡ ~



(don't mind the number formatting)
the neural bridging technique this is literally my favorite discovery!! instead of traditional note-taking, i create what i call "neural bridges" between different subjects. for example, when studying both literature + history, i connect historical events with the literature written during that time. i use a special notebook divided into sections where each page has two columns - one for each subject. the connections help you understand both subjects deeper + create stronger memory patterns!!
here's how i do it:
example:
left column: historical event
right column: literary connection
middle: draw connecting lines + add small insights
bottom: write how they influenced each other
the shadow expert method this changed everything for me!! i pretend i'm going to be interviewed as an expert on the topic i'm studying. i create potential interview questions + prepare detailed answers. but here's the twist - i record myself answering these questions in three different ways:
basic explanation (like i'm talking to a friend)
detailed analysis (like i'm teaching a class)
complex discussion (like i'm at a conference)
this forces you to understand the topic from multiple angles + helps you explain concepts in different ways!!
the reverse engineering study system instead of starting with the basics, i begin with the most complex example i can find and work backwards to understand the fundamentals. for example, in calculus, i start with a complicated equation + break it down into smaller parts until i reach the basic concepts.
my process looks like:
find the hardest example in the textbook
list every concept needed to understand it
create a concept map working backwards
study each component separately
rebuild the complex example step by step
the sensory anchoring technique this is seriously game-changing!! i associate different types of information with specific sensory experiences:
theoretical concepts - study while standing
factual information - sitting at my desk
problem-solving - walking slowly
memorization - gentle swaying
review - lying down
your body literally creates muscle memory associated with different types of learning!!
the metacognition mapping strategy i created this method where i track my understanding using what i call "clarity scores":
level 1: can recognize it
level 2: can explain it simply
level 3: can teach it
level 4: can apply it to new situations
level 5: can connect it to other topics
i keep a spreadsheet tracking my clarity levels for each topic + focus my study time on moving everything to level 5!!
the information architecture method instead of linear notes, i create what i call "knowledge buildings":
foundation: basic principles
first floor: key concepts
second floor: applications
top floor: advanced ideas
roof: real-world connections
each "floor" must be solid before moving up + i review from top to bottom weekly!!
the cognitive stamina training this is my absolute secret weapon!! i use a special interval system based on brain wave patterns:
32 minutes of focused study
8 minutes of active recall
16 minutes of teaching the material to my plushies
4 minutes of complete rest
the specific timing helps maintain peak mental performance + prevents study fatigue!!
the synthesis spiral evolution this method literally transformed how i retain information:
create main concept spirals
add branch spirals for subtopics
connect related concepts with colored lines
review by tracing the spiral paths
add new connections each study session
your notes evolve into a beautiful web of knowledge that grows with your understanding!!
these methods might seem different from typical study advice, but they're based on how our brains actually process + store information!! i developed these through lots of research + personal experimentation, and they've helped me maintain perfect grades while still having time for self-care, hobbies + fun!!

Getting a lot of: “No but like you don’t get it math is stupid and useless and reading books is actually morally good… and teaches us about the world around us and explains how it works which stupid math doesn’t do why should I learn calculus I would rather shame people into reading Jane Eyre than open a math book or website”
And like … out of the millions of things you can do with basic and foundational math … that shows you how the world works … Calculus, as one example, can literally explain to you why leaves grow at the angle they grow … there is little more beautiful than being able to calculate exactly how nature works and understand why.
There is beauty in every subject … and few other subjects encapsulate ways to understand your surroundings like math.
If you are comfortable shaming people for not reading fiction books because you personally are good at reading them, but uncomfortable being shamed for not doing mathematics consider you are in the exact same boat as people who are afraid to read fiction books because they don’t see why it is important to do so and are unwilling to begin.
You are the people you hate.

Paring : Steven Meeks x fem reader
TW : (brief) mentions of biblical studies and Pythagorean Identities.
[this is my first imagines by the way, so please excuse any mistake or poor writing (I tried to not mention any racial aspects, but lmk what I can improve)]

Latin was always a subject you mastered. It got much easier once you began to assimilate Latin with French, which, by the way, you were also pretty good at. One was a dead language, not spoken nowadays, but really useful when doing biblical studies, and then the other was the language of romance, the one people thought of when asked to say the most romantic and sexy language there is.
Though, besides languages and the occasional English, you weren’t really exceptional in any other subject, especially Trigonometry. It's not like you were failing, not at all actually, but you simply couldn't excel it like, by example, literature. That's why you’re pushing yourself to the edge, so you can get better at the calculus assimilated subjects, and that's why you asked Steven Meeks for help.
The two of you have always been friends, talking to each other in the corridors, of course being together in study groups, and also being a part of the same secret society. But apart from those friendly interactions, you didn't stand out as actually being friends, so much so, that few people actually believed that you even knew who Steven was. Being the only girl at Welton preparatory school due to your high intellectual level ( and family history) made you quite popular, so why would you, willingly, hang out with Steven Meeks? That's what they all thought, though, no one dared to say it out loud.
"I still don't understand this." You said, a loud sigh leaving your mouth quickly after as you stared at the problem filled paper in front of you.
Steven let out a small low chuckle, though it was clear he didn't mean it in an offensive way. "This is actually simpler than it looks" he begins, moving the paper a bit closer to him, and scooting lightly closer to you. "Once you understand the concept, it'll all make sense." And to that, you nods, gaze switching from the paper to his face, admiring his soft freckles, beautiful eyes and- and how he begins to explain Pythagorean Identities.
"Alright. So. Pythagorean identities. The most important one is kind of like the golden rule of trig: sin?0 + cos 0 = 1. That's the foundation, everything else branches from this." He explains.
You leaned in, the scent of your sweet raspberry perfume just barely brushing the air between them. "But why does that even work?"
Steven looked at you not just any glance, but the kind of look that says I see you struggling, and I want to help you out of it. "Because it comes from the Pythagorean Theorem." He says, but swing the confusion linger on your face, he grabs a piece of blank paper and a pencil and begins to draw." Picture this: a right triangle inside the unit circle. The hypotenuse is 1. The x-value is cose, the y-value is sine. So when you square both and add them up... it just always equals 1."
You blinked, eyes narrowing slightly in concentration as they switch from the homework, to Steven's drawing. "So it's not just a random formula-they actually mean something."
He nodded, a little too pleased you were catching on. "Exactly. And the other two identities are built off this one. Like, if you divide everything by cos?0, you get: 1 + tan?0 = sec?0. And if you divide by sin'® instead, it becomes: cot?0 + 1 = cscª0. It's like a family of truths that are all connected."
You bit your lip, scribbling it down, then looked sideways at him. "Do you always talk about math like it's poetry?" You ask with a small smile. Steven, just like you, has always taken a special liking to poetry, and just like everyone else, after just a few classes with Mr. Keating, it became a bigger, more important part of his life, so of course it was no surprise to see him romanticizing trigonometry.
Steven smiled, a faint flush rising in his cheeks. "It makes it easier to understand, does it not?" he tilts his head lightly at you, seeing as you wrote the problem's answer down on the paper, with your perfect calligraphy, while your beautiful, hair fell next to you. Your eyes seemed to shine as you understood each problem, they looked beautiful, you looked so beautiful. At least that's what he thought.
"I suppose it does" A soft laughter is heard leaving your mouth. There was a beat of silence-just the hush of pages turning in the distance and the soft tapping of your pen again. "You know," you said, not looking at him this time, "I usually hate asking for help."
"I know," he replied, glancing at her-noticing the tension in your jaw softening a little. "But I kind of like that you asked me.
Their eyes met. Just for a second. A heartbeat.
“I do too.” She said softly, turning to look at her notes once again. Her cheeks were feeling hotter, she didn’t want to look up.
“Do you need help with anything els-“ Before he could finish his frase, Aurora began speaking once again, mustering up enough courage to glance at him.
“Would you like to hang out? Outside of school?” She asks, cheeks getting hotter and hotter .
“That’d be pretty nice, actually.” Steven’s now held held a crimson tint, although he tried to act like he wasn’t about to jump out of happiness.
“Cool” she says, attempting to act nonchalant, but giving him a shy smile.
“Cool.” He answers back, returning her smile.

Math Tips

Well, let me tell you, we all have this love-hate relationship with this subject, right? The worst part is that when you don't know what the heck is going on, so, as a girl who studied maths (2 Volumes/textbooks) on her own during the year she was homeschooled, here are some tips and tricks that I did to get an A+ in my math finals!
Get your syllabus together
In the beginning I had no damn idea what was going on and it was just confusing. I had to do the first thing I did was taken my index/table of contents and mark the chapters which i knew very well and the ones I had no clue about. And then i arranged them with the marking scheme, like which one carries the most marks etc etc and study accordingly.
Complete lessons/chapters that you already know
When you finish off the things you already know then that's gonna give you the confidence you need even if you know only 1-2 chapters, learn it throughout and make sure that you'll get the answer no matter how twisted the sum is. If you're doubtful about the whole textbook like any normal person.... Start with the easy ones. (I know there are literally really no "easy" chapters, spare me)
Harder chapters need hard work
Most chapters like Trigonometry proofs, Geometry proofs, Algebra, Graphs, Mensuration and Calculus etc need more than minimum effort but here's a trick, what is the common thing in this? Yes, they're all formulae and theorem based which goes to my next point. These chapters are completely based on how much you've understood your basics.
Formulae and theorem cheatsheets
Make a list of all formulae and the theorem used in the book, write them chapter wise and no printouts or digital notes. Take a paper and write it down, no excuses. It helps you while you're practicing, revising and in the last minute review, it helped me damn much. Remember, maths is a sport. The basic formulae must come to you like reflexes.
YouTube is your best friend.
For every single chapter, go and watch the basics and how a sum is done step by step. A recommendation for this is Organic Chemistry Tutor who literally is one of the reasons i passed. He has videos from basic geometry, trigonometry, statistics to calculus. Search for your own YouTubers and be clear with concepts.
Math is fully memorization
Memorize formulae and theorems with the back of your hand, you should be able to recall them within seconds. Be thorough.
Memorize basic math values (if calculator isn't allowed)
Do this if you have a majority of chapters like Statistics, Mensuration, Profit/loss calculation etc, where large numbers are concerned. Memorize the first 10 square, cube, decimal and multiplication values. It may be dry but there are literally songs available for these things, I'm serious, i learnt the first 10 cube roots by listening to Senorita xD Search for rhymes and they'll definitely be many!!
Work it out!!!!!!
Can't stress this enough, atleast 30-40 mins is the minimum for maths. I'm serious, work out each sum, don't ever think it's a waste, you'll see the results. Practice makes perfect. Work out every single sum, from examples to exercise ones cause let's be honest, our examiners love to take problems from every nook and cranny of the book.
Whiteboard method
So, I made this up and it actually works, if you have a whiteboard or anything else, once you completed a chapter, take a random page and whatever sums you have on those two pages, you need to complete within a given time limit. It helps you to identify your weak points and where the hell you're losing both time and effort and not to mention that it gives you confidence boost up.

I dunno if you still do P5 critical content here but one thing I really don’t like about the game is…Makoto. I feel that she’s the weakest member of the entire team with how she’s got such a nebulous role as “tactician” when Joker and Futaba do everything she can and more, her attitude towards Ann regarding what happened with Shiho as an answer to a genuine question about why she didn’t do anything with Kamoshida (it’s understandable that she couldn’t act as much as she could have but Ann still deserved a clearer answer), her theming is incredibly weak since Pope Joan doesn’t really do anything rebellious like the rest and it doesn’t even have an internal reform thing, her Confidant doesn’t even focus on her, her design as a thief is meh and most people only remember it because bike and ass shots…overall, Makoto feels the most slapped on out of all the thieves and that’s not even getting into the arc she debuts in.
I try not to post too much critical content of Persona 5 here, because despite the flaws I find with it, it's still one of my favorite games of all time. I genuinely enjoy it, and I don't want my only contribution to it to be all critical and no fun. That level of anger is reserved for another series on this blog, and I would like to work on my own P5R AU mostly.
But I do see where you're coming from, anon, but I don't think the problems many people have with Makoto come from the character herself, but rather are manifested as a product of a very prominent issue of how P5 handles a lot of its female characters. In my opinion, the issues that Makoto has aren't a "Makoto Is a Badly Written Character" issue, but a "The Female Characters of P5 Are Better Conceptualized Than Executed" issue.
Long Post Ahead. Spoilers for Persona 5, Persona 5 Royal, and Persona 5 Strikers.
Let's go through this together step by step.
Makoto as the Tactician of the Thieves
I've seen this argument come up quite often. I can see why people say that Makoto's official role as the tactician of the Phantom Thieves isn't a very apt description of what she actually contributes to the team, and you're right that the planning of the operations soon falls to Joker, Futaba, and, to an extent, Akechi. But just because the other brainiacs of the team rolled up to show out, that doesn't mean that Makoto isn't a brilliant tactician in her own right.
Makoto is a genuinely marvelous planner! She's highly aware of her situation, even in high-tension ones, and she earned her place as the brain of the Thieves. Makoto was the one who figured out the locking mechanism of the Bank Palace's second half, she managed to memorize Kaneshiro's pass code for his money case after watching him while in great danger, her navigation lines and Confidant trait Shadow Calculus are solid evidence that her mind is as sharp as ever even in combat. And the way that she stayed calm and was skilled enough to drive the others to safety during the Pyramid Palace's collapse was nothing short of awesome!
Makoto is a great tactician! Holy shit, she was the one who came up with the plan to spread the Calling Card with Ryuji without either of them being caught, while the initial Thieves' best plan for distracting Yusuke was...Looney Tunes shenanigans. Makoto has on multiple occasions showcased her intelligence, which has saved her friends and gotten them out of trouble, and that shouldn't be discounted because there are other brainiacs on the team later on.
The problem is that, and I think this is where people find issue in the portrayal of her intelligence (and by proxy, her role as the tactician), is that a lot of the feats where she's proven herself to be smart were...told to us, instead of shown to us.
I know I just used this example above to prove her capabilities, but the way that Makoto just knows Kaneshiro's pass code was a bit strange to me. Yes, I know that she said that he has opened and closed the case so many times that she managed to memorize it, but when was that? When we see her on-screen with him, she was pinned to the ground, and Kaneshiro was just yapping. It wasn't until the Thieves got there to help her that Makoto actually saw him open the case to get some cash. When were the other times he had opened and closed the case that she could possibly remember its pass code?
It's such an easy fix as well; show us a brief moment in Makoto's sprite that she noticed his movement on the case, and have her occasionally mumble the pass code to herself before she actually opens it. It's much more impressive, and we can actually believe Makoto when she said that she saw Kaneshiro use the pass code.
Another example of her intelligence was told and not shown was the aftermath of the Interrogation Room, where we found out that it was Makoto who realized that Sae might have a cognitive version of Akechi walking around and that will screw up their plan, so they had to take care of him in time. Now, where did we see this brilliant display of quick wits?
From Futaba. Who relays it to us. In an optional dialog. After the fact. Instead of seeing a flashback of it.
Deadass, the first time I've ever played P5, I didn't even talk to Futaba after we were caught up. That tibbit of information is fucking optional, and easily missable if you just...don't care enough to talk to Futaba.
That's such a disservice to Makoto! Futaba gets to have all the screen time showcasing her intelligence, and Akechi actually shows us how smart he is in the Casino Palace! Why doesn't Makoto get to show her smarts on screen, and was told to us instead? To me, that's why it's hard for people to actually believe that she's the brilliant tactician that the game wants us to believe she is. But she is one. I just wish we got to see it more on-screen.
Makoto, Ann, Shiho, and Shujin.
I'm gonna get a lot of flak for this, but like...
Makoto did not know about the extent of Kamoshida's abuse of the student body. She didn't know about the extent of Ann's struggle. And she for fucking sure did not know that Shiho was abused to the point of jumping off the roof.
Yes, Ann deserved a better answer about what happened to her best friend. Anyone would, but it's asinine to expect anyone but the adults around them to give her that answer. Makoto is not the one who should be responsible to give Ann a better answer, when she wasn't even properly informed about the abuse.
I'm not defending her initial behavior here; yes, it was wrong for her to approach them with an abrasive manner initially, and it wasn't the best response to Ann accusing her of not doing anything about Kamoshida by referring to him as a good teacher before the scandal. But the point of the scene was to show that both girls were right and wrong in a very unfortunate situation that neither of them was at fault for.
The way Makoto responded to the Thieves on the rooftop was an unhealthy defensive mechanism not uncommon for people in environments like Makoto has been; Makoto has spent a majority of her life, especially in her most formative years, being told to obey and put her all into being the best, and if she stepped out of line, all of her efforts will be taken away from her. Makoto, in the beginning, was someone who was dismissed over and over again by the people around her, the adults around her, so her only way to be heard and taken seriously by her peers was to react abrasively to their scorn. She cannot do that to adults because that would cost her, and unfortunately, that manifested into her very unhealthy style of social interaction.
Again, this isn't to excuse her actions before awakening to her Persona; this is explaining that it's not uncommon for someone who was pressured into being a pushover by their authority figures to try and defend themselves by overly defending their bad actions. To Makoto, this is the way she has rationalized herself into believing that her perspective will be heard this way, and to others, her efforts will look like excuses.
And it's not like Makoto doesn't care about her fellow students. In the Royal expansion, we see Makoto asking a teacher to help with the situation and trying to fix it, and what was the answer she was given?
The teacher, an authority figure, an adult, did not want to get himself involved when a student just tried to commit suicide. Makoto was given an excuse when she rightfully turned to someone she thought she could rely on. And when she once again rightfully demanded an answer from the highest form of authority at Shujin, Principal Kobayakawa, he told her to fuck off and held her opportunity for better secondary education hostage so Makoto doesn't pry more.
Makoto is stuck between a rock and a hard place here, where the adults at Shujin scapegoated her to mitigate the consequences of their negligence and the student body of Shujin treats her like a fucking spy. That's not fucking fair, and to expect her to know better is wrong when an abuser like Kamoshida only got to this point was because the people who can stop him refuse to do so.
Yes, Ann deserved a better answer. No, Makoto isn't the one who should be expected to give her that answer. She is another teenager who was exploited by the same environment that left Ann to suffer, and to pitch them against each other in anyway is fucking dumb. I'm sorry that I'm being harsh, but Makoto made a mistake that she is constantly fixing and rectifying, she did not told Ann to fuck off or that Shiho deserved it or anything truly warrant unforgiveness. Even Ann herself acknowledged that she fucked up with how she treated Makoto, and both girls decided to move on together as friends. That's growth! That's the right thing to do; both girls forgave each other, recognized their failings, and became friends on their own volition.
If the Persona fandom can look past Yusuke blackmailing the Thieves when Ann refused to model nude and the boys asking about Madarame's mistreatment of his pupils, it's absolutely hypocritical to not even try to let Makoto right her wrong for doing the same thing, which she has apologized for.
If the Persona fandom is going to shit on Makoto for not knowing the extent of abuse because it was hidden to her on purpose, then the priority is completely fucked. The people who should be scrutinized in the tragedy surrounding Shiho are her abuser, Kamoshida, and the adults who let him get this far. NOT A FUCKING TEENAGER.
These kids deserved better than to have a school that only doesn't care about them, but is actively pitting them against each other just to save their reputation that the adults have tarnished. Makoto is one of those kids, like Ann, like Shiho, and so many others, who make mistakes and try to fix them so that they don't become their abusers. At least give her that.
Pope Joan and the Rebellious Soul of a Woman
I think it's important for the audience to understand the story and the relevance of Pope Joan in order to understand Makoto (and to an extent, Sae); Pope Joan was allegedly the only female pope of the Catholic Church during an age where it acted not only as a religious organization, but also as one of the most powerful socio-political force in the European world (and even beyond). That is, if anyone rebelled against its structures and what it deems as "justice", they are as good as dead and condemned by their own world.
The Church and the Papacy were, and still are, a power governed by patriarchal enforcers, and for women, it served as a looming threat over their existence and autonomy as people. By mercy, they're considered witches for being different than what was expected of them by the Church, so imagine a woman acting as the highest authority of that power when that same power demonizes her existence.
A woman who defied the structures and expectations of the main judicial power of her world and placed herself as its highest authority is relevant not only to Makoto's existence in the narrative of Persona 5, but it is also relevant to the themes of social rebellion that make up the foundation of Persona 5.
Think about it; she's the highest authority in the student body, but her existence there is constantly in jeopardy because of the disadvantages the overall environment traps her in, but her Confidant shows her wanting to reform it and extend that to her future career for the betterment of society. Her more tomboy-adjacent style and hobbies defy what the traditional Japanese expectations of women want her to be, and it plays into the traits of her Arcana, the High Priestess, which is created after the visage of Pope Joan. She's justice-driven, empathetic, and angry that people would exploit the weak using the gaps in a flawed justice system. The system that consumed her sister in a prison of envy and bitterness.
Sae's anger towards the patriarchal society that puts her down when she no longer has the support of a man, her father, who she loved and admired, created the Casino. You know what's one of the greatest sins the Church commits in its crusade to maintain an unjust socio-political order?
Monetary exploitation of the people and allowing its members to gamble it away for better political standings in the name of "justice".
And what does Makoto want to do?
Reform that system so no one else has to suffer injustice.
So yeah, Johanna is more than important to the story of P5. And if I'm being honest, she's not the worst usage of Persona concerning the user's personal story in the narrative.
Is Makoto the Worst/Best Girl in Persona 5?
I'm going to say she's a good "middle" tier girl. Yes, I know I just yapped on and on in her favor, but in all honesty, Makoto is just an...okay for me. She has many more merits than people seem to give her, but she also has more flaws in her characterization than most of her diehard fans would admit. She's not the best, but there are certainly worse character writings than hers in the main female cast alone.
Regarding her PT outfit, I think it's okay. But it's mostly because she makes it work, and there are other designs that are so much fucking worse than hers. Sure, the amount of ass shots are annoying, but it has nothing on Ann's "LoOk aT aLL oF mY cURveS iN ThIS SkIn-TiGht aNd EmBaRRassiNGLy ImPRacTIcaL" catsuit, or Yoshizawa's "basically waifu Joker that hurts my character growth more than aids it" nightmare of an outfit, or Sophia's "discounted Eve from Wall-E" sorry excuse of a design.
Between those and the two others that are better suited for the characters, Makoto's actually decent. The only thing I would change about it is that I would add more red to the design and choose a different torso armor, but it serves its purpose.
Yes, I would agree that her Confidant story doesn't really focus on her, but again, it's not as bad as Ann's. My major problem with Makoto's characterization during her Confidant is her wish to become a cop; sure, the head cop that can possibly change the system, but how long until she actually gets to that point? And this point only became even more relevant in Strikers when Zenkichi became disillusioned with his occupation after it failed him, and even before that, Makoto saw how it drove Sae into a corner.
And most importantly, the person she confides this desire to is a victim of police brutality.
Oh, not to mention, Makoto would be the last person who should be a fucking cop. She's impulsive, stubborn, headstrong, and extremely confrontative when she sees injustice in the world; you can argue that it makes her not a corrupted cop, but this woman fucking bust into a criminal den by herself and slapped her friend to wake her up from a dangerous solution! That impulsivity would have her end up dead if not controlled at worst, and put others in danger at best!
If the writers want Makoto to become someone who can reform the justice system and actually prevent inequality in the force, for the love of fucking Philemon, have her aspire to be a defense attourney, a criminal analyst, a criminal justice researcher, or a fucking judge. Any of those profession would actually benefits society more than adding another cop into an already flawed and violent organization, where assholes like Shido can exploit for their own selfish means.
Atlus is absolutely terrible at sticking to its ACAB message when the premise of the story starts with the protagonist getting battered by cops at the command of a corrupted politician, but guess what? We shouldn't actually want our audience to question the corrupted criminal justice system that actually contributes to the inequalities of our society, they should keep believing that it's actually salvageable without a complete reformation and to expect the authorities to face the consequences of their deliberate shortcomings; we need to sell this game after all.
And that particular point rounds us back to my biggest problem of Persona 5's treatment of its characters; in comparison to the male characters, even in the main cast, the female characters have so many more flaws than merits when it comes to the prioritization of story beats in their personal journey. Makoto isn't the worst girl or even tacked onto the story; she's just utilized much less effectively for the character she is, and like other girls, there is an emphasis on her being a waifu first, and a character second.
But when you look at Makoto and compare her to the other girls, holy shit, she's actually way more lucky and interesting than what they were given. At least her sexuality isn't being made into a joke despite not giving her any agency in it, and, thank the heavens, she actually allowed to interacts with other characters aside from Joker for more than 10% of the game and isn't written as a fucking Satellite despite the fascinating psychology behind her conceptualization.
TL;DR, Makoto has some issues, but her issues aren't her fault, and she is actually better off than some other female characters in the Phantom Thieves alone. Those issues are more of symptoms of an ongoing problem with Atlus not treating its female characters with more interest compared to their male counterparts, and it's unfair to only use Makoto as a scapegoat for that problem when she's honestly a good mid-tier member overall.

Come to think of it, Max and Bradley never actually went on a date before, as silly as that sounds. Sure, they went on their casual hangouts at the Bean Scene or skate park, but they wouldn’t have considered it a date, per say.
And of course, Bradley had to realize this while doing a study session with Max in the library, occasionally looking over to see his love half-asleep reading the Calculus textbook in front of him. No matter how many times he studied and tried to get focused, Max always found a way to doze off. “Max~” Bradley whispered, poking the Goof’s shoulder, causing him to flutter open his eyes, clearly dazed. Just like his inner child told him to, Max most likely, and did, stay up all night playing video games with P.J. and Bobby. “Huh- what-” Max grumbled, his eyes focusing on Bradely, a small smile coming to his face as he stifled a yawn. “Mm..did I fall asleep again?” He asked, sitting up and closing the Calculus textbook, already deciding that he didn’t have the motivation to even look at another equation.
“You did, and you were nearly done with that problem too.” Bradley said with a soft chuckle, closing his own textbook. He gently moved a bit of Max’s hair out of his face, giving him a reassuring look. “You usually fall asleep, but today you seem extra tired. Work got you down?” Bradley asked, genuine concern heard in his voice. Following their almost breakup, Bradley was doing everything in his power to not only be more open, but show Max that he cared, which he obviously did all the time, but genuinely show his concerns. Like, right now for example. He noticed how tired Max seemed when arriving at the library, how his answers seemed uninterested and like he was struggling to even keep his eyes open. Even late night gaming couldn’t do this to the Goof.
Max shrugged at the question asked, letting out a full yawn this time as he aimlessly put away his pencils. “I guess, yeah. I feel like everyday’s just waking up, going to class, studying and going to sleep, y’know?” Max explained, a somewhat sorrowful expression on his face. It was unusual for Max to feel this way as he had believed that he wouldn’t let college stress get to him, but this year, that wasn’t the case. He felt like he was falling behind, struggling to catch up and even his free time felt like a detriment to what he had to get done. Bradley asking, though, did make him feel a little better that someone other than his roommates noticed that something was off. Bradley gave him a sympathetic look, deciding to speak on his thoughts earlier instead of waiting until it was the weekend like he had planned. “Well..would you wanna go on a date?” The question caused Max’s face to go red like he had been out in the sun. Surely he hadn’t heard right. “I’m sorry?” “Would you like to go on a date? Y’know, just you and me go somewhere.” Bradley repeated, noticing how Max seemed to fluster at even the mention of it. It was honestly adorable how they had been dating for over a year, yet the Goof still gets flustered over the mention of things that couples do.
Even though Max was sure they went on dates before, hearing Bradley ask him so bluntly like that made his heart skip a beat. He felt special, wanted. He knows that it might be weird to freak out over being asked out on a date when you’re dating someone, but he couldn’t lie that it made him feel butterflies all over again. “Of course I would wanna go on a date with you!” Max exclaimed, a bit too loudly as he put his red face in his hands. “Sorry..” He grumbled, embarrassed.
Bradley took Max’s hand in his own, kissing it gently with a soft chuckle. “Awe, my baby is embarrassed.” He teased, causing Max to take his hand away, which only made him laugh harder at his flustered acts. “I’m teasing, Max, come on, pack your stuff up.” Bradley said as he stood up from his seat, swinging his bag onto his shoulder. “Wait, we’re going now?” Max asked, the sudden demand by his boyfriend confusing him as he did so anyways, putting his textbooks into his bag.
“Yeah, why have to wait until the weekend? You don’t have any more classes, right?” Max shook his head, standing up just as Bradley did, following him out of the library and onto the quiet campus. It was mid afternoon after all, and everyone was either in classes or off studying somewhere. Max did have to agree that leaving right now would be the best idea.
“Okay, to the car then. I have a place that I think you’ll love.” Bradley said confidently before taking Max’s hand and leading him towards the University’s parking lot, pride bubbling in him from the high hopes of being able to surprise his boyfriend with something he would love.
Well, hoped he would love. _____
What Max didn’t expect to see when Bradley pulled into the parking lot was a huge blue and white building with paintings of several different aquatic animals on the sides. Whales, dolphins, even little sea turtles were plastered on the outside. It could only be one place, and this place, he hadn’t been in years.
“Did you bring me to an aquarium?” He asked, turning to see Bradley giving him a confident smile as he put the car in park.
“I did, love. And you’d better like it because we have a few hours here.” Bradley said, though his expression showed that he was kidding, but was full of hope that his boyfriend would like the gesture. He had honestly thought about this idea last minute, but he assumed it would be a good escape for the both of them as there really isn’t much cuter than seeing sea animals living their best lives in their water compartments.
Max, to Bradley’s relief, gave him that big, goofy, smile that he loved so much.
“I don’t know, we might just have to go inside and see. And then I’ll tell you if I like it.” Max said, already getting out of the car, his excitement contained by the sly remark. This was somewhere he didn’t think he needed to really go to often, but now that he was here, he realized how much he missed it.
Bradley followed Max’s lead, getting out of the car and heading behind Max, taking his hand in his own and opening the door for the both of them. They walked into the dimly lit environment flooded with hues of blue and white to resemble being in the ocean.
“It’s beautiful in here..nothing at all like I remember. Granted, I hadn’t been here since I was little.” Max whispered, more to himself than to Bradley as he watched his lover check in, being allowed to pass through the entrance gates and into the aquarium.
“I know right? I had a feeling you would like the vibes of it.” Bradley handed Max the map showing all the sections with the different sea creatures, including a cafe on the top floor. Max scanned the map, not sure where to start and decided to simply look over to his left, noticing the dolphin looking back at him through the glass.
“Oh- hello there.” He greeted with a smile, causing Bradley to chuckle softly, joining him next to the tank and watching as the dolphin seemed to greet Max back, spinning around before returning to his position in front of the glass. Max was infatuated, unable to get his eyes off the beautiful creature in which Bradley took out his phone, wanting to capture this adorable moment in a picture.
Seeing Max’s smile, taking live photo evidence of how happy he seemed in that moment, was enough to make Bradley want to give him the world, or as much of it as he could.

Continuing through the many sections of sea creatures, the couple saw big animals like sharks and adult sea turtles to really tiny ones like clownfish and seahorses. Bradley was taking pictures every now and then, wanting to capture each moment so he could look through them when he was down. That was just what Max did to him; lifted him when he was down.
It wasn’t until they were heading up to the cafe that something made Max stop in his tracks, his face a sort of uncomfortable expression.
“What’s wrong?” Bradley asked, turning back to see that Max had stopped. Max shook his head, trying to play it off, though his gaze aimed past his lover’s. Just as Bradley was about to turn and look, Max quickly repositioned him.
“No! Don’t look.” He urged. “Sorry..it’s just- that’s Roxanne. The girl I dated in high school.” Max whispered, his voice full of awkward tension. He didn’t feel any harsh feelings towards her or anything, he just felt it was going to be super awkward, especially since he had no clue how she was going to react to his new partner. Of course, they were still friends, but distant friends, and with their busy schedules, rarely spoke. So, it was weird to see her here of all places.
Just as he was getting his bearings, Max saw Roxanne heading in the direction, causing him to try to hide behind Bradley, who was not interested in his shenanigans.
“Max, what is up with you? It’s fine- she won’t like, yell at you or anything, right?”
“No, but it’s gonna be super awkward and when I tell you I don’t want to deal with th-” “Max?” A familiar voice called, causing Max to further hide his head into his boyfriend’s back.
“Please tell me she’s not coming over here-” “She’s coming over here.” “Oh- come on..”Max whispered, moving from behind Bradley with an awkward smile, waving to Roxanne as she approached. She looked relatively the same; ginger hair flowing down her back the way it always did, eyes big and bright.
“Hey Max! Didn’t expect to see you here.” Roxanne turned to look at Bradley. “Sorry, was I interrupting?” She asked, to which Bradley shook his head, assuring her that it was fine. “I’m Roxanne, one of Max’s friends from high school.” The way she introduced herself was so casual, like they didn’t have any romantic history and were simply friends. Granted, their ‘romantic history’ was nothing short of the classic high school romance that didn’t work out, but it seemed to be for the better and thankfully, there was no bad blood.
Bradley gave his usual confident smile, putting his hands in his pockets. “Bradley Uppercrust The Third, pleasure to meet you.” Roxanne couldn’t help but smile, nodding in acknowledgement of his name.
Then, followed silence, very awkward silence. It seemed like no one knew how to continue the conversation or even move forward, especially since neither Max or Bradley knew if the other was comfortable with mentioning their relationship to Max’s former girlfriend.
It seemed Roxanne wasn’t very fond of the silence either as she swayed her hands a bit before nodding her head towards the stairs. “Soo..you guys were heading to the cafe?”
Max nodded, running a hand through his hair awkwardly. “Yeah, we were just about to go up there.” Roxanne nodded once more.
“I recommend the Aqua Shake. It’s just a blueberry shake, but it has a cute dolphin cookie in the whipped cream.” Roxanne suggested with a somewhat bubbly smile.
“Oh, you’ve been here before?” Bradley asked.
“Yeah, I have. I’m only here right now with some cousins-” Roxanne paused, quickly turning to the area she had just come from. “And I realized I should have been watching them. Shoot- it was nice seeing you Max, and meeting you Bradley!” She suddenly exclaimed before heading off, most likely in search of said cousins.
Before Bradley could even process the ending of the interaction, Max had put his hoodie over his head, groaning as he walked up the stairs. “That was so awkward..”
“It wasn’t too bad.” Bradley commented, walking beside Max as they arrived at the top of the stairs. “She seemed nice. I didn’t know what to say, so I didn’t say that we were dating. Hope that's fine with you.”
Max hadn’t really considered that yet; letting others know and being so open about his relationship. When all his friends and father knows about it, he tends to forget that people outside of his close knit family aren’t aware.
“It’s alright. I don’t think I wanted her to know either right now, anyways.” Max said, standing in line and skimming over the menu, spotting the Aqua Shake that Roxanne had suggested. Though the interaction was over, Max wasn’t able to shake the slight tension in his heart, like something was tugging on his heart strings. It felt weird since he couldn’t tell what that feeling was.
Bradley was already pulling out his wallet, ready to pay for whatever Max wanted and share with him when they got it. Roxanne was an afterthought to him and, even though he knew how Max acted around her in high school, he was in no way concerned about any possibility of him regaining feelings or something like that. He saw how that ended last time. It didn’t seem to bother Max either, at least from what he could see. As Max told him when they first started dating, he and Roxanne ended things pretty smoothly.
After ordering the shake and some curly fries, the couple left to go eat in the car, wanting to leave soon after as it was already approaching the evening.
Sitting in the car, the couple got comfortable, busting out the straws and sharing the aquatic shake. It had blue and white patterns, with the dolphin cookie on top, which Max happily broke in half and shared with his other half.
“Okay, Roxanne was right- this is super good. Especially the cookie with the whipped cream. Did you try it?” Max asked, a big smile on his face as he ate the cookie once more.
“I did, just a bite though. This is all too sweet for me, you can have it babe.” Bradley said, handing it to him before putting on Max’s seatbelt and his own. “Be careful, don’t spill it anywhere.”
Bradley warned before pulling out of the parking spot, turning on the radio to play their shared playlist on the way back to campus. This date was definitely a success, but even in the comfort of their favorite songs on the car ride home, he couldn’t shake that something felt weird, off. Or maybe that was just Bradley’s anxieties taking over.
Max had continued sipping at the blueberry goodness of the overpriced shake that his boyfriend had bought for him, making occasional glances to the left towards the blonde. He hated to admit it, but after getting back together, he felt this tension, like something was pushing them apart even though there was really nothing wrong. Right?
Bradley had pulled into the parking lot almost mindlessly as he turned off the car and looked out the window for a moment, mind focused on analyzing every moment of the date. Did he do the best he could? Was Max actually happy?
“Brad?”
Max called, only to get no response from his love.
“Bradley?”
Max said again, confused as to why he was receiving no answer, concern etched on his features.
“Bradley!”
Max’s voice pulled Bradley out of his thoughts, turning his head to face his love. He was wiping his hands off from the stickiness of the shake and had already unbuckled his seat belt.
“We’re here. Are you okay? You zoned out for a bit, there.” Bradley nodded, taking off his own seatbelt and leaning in to gently kiss Max’s cheek. Though his mind was reeling, he gave Max his usual smile.
“I’m alright. Come on, let's start heading back.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's give example to explain this idea
Imagine we create A Sea Of Water- we use energy to create this sea of water- now we have some energy and we use this energy to create this sea of water- BUT- our energy is NOT spent completely But there's a small part still rest with us – this small part of energy is used to create one wave moves through this sea and this wave speed is 300000 km/s (I suppose the space is similar to the sea of water)
Now – the rest energy is found in one light beam its speed 300000 km/s and this light beam is found NOW in Pluto Orbit – and this light beam will be reflected from Pluto orbit toward the inner planets– means- the rest energy will move in the reflected direction to the original light motion direction.

Discussion - the data tells the idea clearly, it tells
The distances in the solar system is created together based on one design and by one motion- this one motion is the light motion (1.16 million km per second) and the light creates the distance and after that the light uses the created distance as a period of time to create another distance, and by that, the light created all distances in one network together based on one geometrical design and this creation of the distances is done before any planet creation- the data clearly and strongly proves the hypothesis.
NOTICE - The total distances in the solar system (the orbital and inner distances) are 45 distances, the previous data used almost 50% of these distances (because many distances are equal in the solar group – for example – (Saturn orbital distance = Mars orbital circumference)- this distances equality makes the previous data behave in place of around 50% of all distances- and no logic to suppose these all distances are rated by the way with the rate (1.16)!!

this might be a dumb question but like. how do you learn math without a class/curriculum to follow. i have a pretty solid calculus understanding and I want to pursue more advanced math but like im not sure where to start. what even is like category theory it sounds so cool but so scary???. do you have any recommendations on specific fields to begin to look into/whether its best to learn via courses or textbooks or lectures/etc.? any advice would be super appreciated!! dope blog by the way

first of all it's not a dumb question. trust me i'm the algebraic-dumbass I know what I'm talking about. okay so uh. how does one learn math without a class? it's already hard to learn math WITH a class, so uhhh expect to need motivation. i would recommend making friends with people who know more math than you so you have like, a bit more motivation, and also because math gets much easier if you have people you can ask questions to. Also, learning math can be kind of isolating - most people have no clue what we do.
That said, how does one learn more advanced math?
Well i'm gonna give my opinion, but if anyone has more advice to give, feel free to reblog and share. I suppose the best way to learn math on your own would be through books. You can complement them with video lectures if you want, a lot of them are freely available on the internet. In all cases, it is very important you do exercises when learning: it helps, but it's also the fun part (math is not a spectator sport!). I will say that if you're like me, working on your own can be quite hard. But I will say this: it is a skill, and learning it as early as possible will help you tremendously (I'm still learning it and i'm struggling. if anyone has advice reblog and share it for me actually i need it please)
Unfortunately, for ""basic"" (I'm not saying this to say it's easy but because factually I'm going to talk about the first topics you learn in math after highschool) math topics, I can't really give that much informed book recommendations as I learned through classes. So if anyone has book recommandations, do reblog with them. Anyways. In my opinion the most important skill you need to go further right now is your ability to do proofs!
That's right, proofs! Reasoning and stuff. All the math after highschool is more-or-less based on explaining why something is true, and it's really awesome. For instance, you might know that you can't write the square root of 2 as a fraction of two integers (it's irrational). But do you know why? Would you be able to explain why? Yes you would, or at least, you will! For proof-writing, I have heard good things about The Book of Proof. I've also heard good things about "The Art of Problem Solving", though I think this one is maybe a bit more competition-math oriented. Once you have a grasp on proofs, you will be ready to tackle the first two big topics one learns in math: real analysis, and linear algebra.
Real analysis is about sequences of real numbers, functions on the real numbers and what you can do with them. You will learn about limits, continuity, derivatives, integrals, series, all sorts of stuff you have already seen in calculus, except this time it will be much more proof-oriented (if you want an example of an actual problem, here's one: let (p_n) and (q_n) be two sequences of nonzero integers such that p_n/q_n converges to an irrational number x. Show that |p_n| and |q_n| both diverge to infinity). For this I have heard good things about Terence Tao's Analysis I (pdf link).
Linear algebra is a part of abstract algebra. Abstract algebra is about looking at structures. For instance, you might notice similarities between different situations: if you have two real numbers, you can add them together and get a third real number. Same for functions. Same for vectors. Same for polynomials... and so on. Linear algebra is specifically the study of structures called vector spaces, and maps that preserve that structure (linear maps). Don't worry if you don't get what I mean right away - you'll get it once you learn all the words. Linear algebra shows up everywhere, it is very fundamental. Also, if you know how to multiply matrices, but you've never been told why the way we do it is a bit weird, the answer is in linear algebra. I have heard good things about Sheldon Axler's Linear Algebra Done RIght.
After these two, you can learn various topics. Group theory, point-set topology, measure theory, ring theory, more and more stuff opens up to you. As for category theory, it is (from my pov) a useful tool to unify a lot of things in math, and a convenient language to use in various contexts. That said, I think you need to know the "lots of things" and "various contexts" to appreciate it (in math at least - I can't speak for computer scientists, I just know they also do category theory, for other purposes). So I don't know if jumping into it straight away would be very fun. But once you know a bit more math, sure, go ahead. I have heard a lot of good things about Paolo Aluffi's Algebra: Chapter 0 (pdf link). It's an abstract algebra book (it does a lot: group theory, ring theory, field theory, and even homological algebra!), and it also introduces category theory extremely early, to ease the reader into using it. In fact the book has very little prerequisites - if I'm not mistaken, you could start reading it once you know how to do proofs. it even does linear algebra! But it does so with an extremely algebraic perspective, which might be a bit non-standard. Still, if you feel like it, you could read it.
To conclude I'd say I don't really belive there's a "correct" way to learn math. Sure, if you pursue pure math, at some point, you're going to need to be able to read books, and that point has come for me, but like I'm doing a master's, you can get through your bachelor's without really touching a book. I believe everyone works differently - some people love seminars, some don't. Some people love working with other people, some prefer to focus on math by themselves. Some like algebra, some like analysis. The only true opinion I have on doing math is that I fully believe the only reason you should do it is for fun.

The Blacked Out Skill has been changed in two major ways. First we made it more obvious that the Blacked Out Skill applies even to knowledge of the supernatural that is not necessarily true. And also rather than working the way that every other Knowledge skill works, the Blacked Out Skill now gives leads to where answers might be found rather than immediate concrete answers.

Fic Writer Ask Game
1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)
Hmmm. I think it really depends on what you’re there for, because I have two completely different versions of Bruce Wayne living in my head.
fool me thrice is a good introduction to how I write Batfamily dynamics, my characterization of the Batkids, how I develop a plot across scenes, tackle questions in my writing, and write an abusive Bruce Wayne while still maintaining his internal life and not demonizing him. This fic is pretty characteristic of my Bad Parent Bruce Wayne fics, and my writing style in general. If you want to read my Bad Parent Bruce Wayne fics, I’d recommend this as a starting point for how I see things playing out.
Olive Branch, on the other hand, is the introduction I’d recommend for Good/Okay Parent Bruce Wayne. It shows how I deal with misunderstandings, uncertainty, and at least somewhat unreliable narration (which is very common in my fics). Like fool me thrice, it involves extended dialogue and relationship work, but unlike fool me thrice, it is a single scene. In general, the writing style and the way I portray Jason’s internal thoughts vs what he says are a pretty good example of how I normally write.
But honestly, unless it’s in a series, any work is a good starting point I think!
30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?
I routinely try to push my comfort zone in small ways, such as by trying to write a romance fic or write two characters who I haven’t written interacting before. But I think the second farthest outside my comfort zone I’ve written is actually my most recent multichapter fic, once you cross the line (will you be satisfied?), which is on 2/5 chapters. It’s a TimSteph fic—which is outside my comfort zone due to being romance and not a pairing I’ve read a ton of—but it also contains frank discussions of sex and birth control and on-screen making out. No on-screen sex (I am unwilling to research how people having sex works in practice) but still the only fic that I’ve ever rated M for sexual reasons. I think writing this fic has made me open up a little bit to including more sexual elements in my stories, and it’s also made me think more about tagging practices on AO3.
Surprisingly, the farthest outside my comfort zone I’ve gone was a complete accident. I wrote a fic that was supposed to be dark and kind of messed up, but the first draft fell off the deep end. I decided I couldn’t post it, because I’d unintentionally added subtext. And if I could see that subtext, other people definitively would.
The fic underwent extensive edits. Some of these edits were really, really stupid, such as the Find and Replace incident. In hindsight, I would’ve done it differently, but at the time I was just happy that I brought the fic back into my comfort zone. This story became Graveyard, which doesn’t quite manage to say what I originally intended it to, but at least it doesn’t say anything I didn’t intend it to.
This fic actually did inspire a change in my writing process. Before I write my fics, I now lay out every way I think the fic could be interpreted and decide which interpretation(s) I am okay with and want to explore. And then I develop a plan for how I am going to emphasize the interpretation(s) I intend to emphasize while de-emphasizing alternative ones. Obviously, I can’t control how people view my fics, and people could easily be misinterpreting them. But incorporating this calculus into my writing process at least means I’m not blindsided and can avoid another Graveyard incident that messes up the fic.
This started out in an anxious way, but now it’s more for clarity’s sake. When I write, I have something I want to communicate. Sometimes there’s ambiguity in that, but only specific, intentional ambiguity. But I don’t want to have cracks in my stories (or poems) that lead to validating misinterpretations of my original message. I’m a lot more intentional about what I write now. So overall I think this incident has improved my writing.
