by the way, does anyone know of good sites/platforms to post your writing? Specifically original stories (because I know AO3 is good for fanfics, but I don't think they allow original stories?)
I've been looking at RoyalRoad because an acquaintance of mine posts his writing on there, but I also want to see what other sites are out there.

Here are all the websites and tools I use as a writer
For Writing:
Reedsy — this is where I have all of my projects. You can create new books or import files and it will automatically turn them into books. It has a lot of cool features like tracking your word count, how many words you wrote, how many you deleted, and the current word count. There’s a word count goal you can set. You can create different sections (I can’t remember what they’re called). This is where I like to keep my notes and character sheets. It auto saves your writing and you can go back into your past saves to recover them. It also allows you to export your story in proper publishing format for ebooks and manuscripts. There’s a lot more too. The site holds weekly contests for $250. They have 5 prompts you can submit 1-3k word stories to. Highly recommend. The downside is that they very recently put everything behind a paywall. So you have to subscribe to two different plans in order to get all the features they offer. Which I’m pissed about because up until recently I had it all for free. And I got locked out of my notes and stuff that were already there.
Miriam Webster’s dictionary — I always have this open while I’m writing. I usually use the thesaurus to find the words I’m looking for.
Capitalize My Title — very straightforward I have a hard time remembering proper formatting for titles so I just write it into this and copy paste it.
For Character Sheets:
CharacterHub — this site offers highly customizable character sheets and world/story sheets. You can create a unique style for every character from color to information and pictures. The only downside is that the site is incredibly slow and often glitchy. You have to be really patient with it. There are also social channels where you can talk to other users.
Unvale — less customizable when it comes to formatting but it is still great in its own right. You can post pictures, writing for both characters and stories. You can make pages for your stories and link them to your characters. There’s a very active community on here as well.
For Publishing:
Archive of Our Own (Ao3) — I post my fanfics and my original works here. It’s a non-profit that prides itself on its zero-censorship policy. Yes the tagging system to weed out all the things you don’t want to read or to find what you want to read. It’s hard to get reads on original works but if you cross-post to tumblr you can build an audience.
Reedsy — they have a market place where you can find authors, editors, freelancers, and other experts and resources. You can also get a job here yourself. And there’s a place where you can publish your stories for people to find.
Patreon — it’s hard to be a writer on Patreon. But I post my work in progress stuff for my original story as well as posting the finalized episode as soon as it’s done so people can get early access to episodes that normally get published once a month.
Tumblr — this platform is honestly one of the best places for posting your writing and getting feedback from communities. Reddit is also a great place to get feedback too but there’s rarely a place you can self promote your writing. Here you can.
Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) — personally I have not used this but I know that a lot of people self publish here. Especially erotica authors. There’s a bunch of loopholes you have to jump through to not get banned or blacklisted if you write for mature audiences. But if your looking to make money off your books then this sight is your best bet for self publishing.

Gearing Up for NaNoWriMo with Novlr
Hi everyone 👋 I’m Pamela, Writer Development and Community Lead at Novlr!
October is coming to an end, and so is the time to prepare for NaNoWriMo (a time we affectionately call Preptober).
Tumblr media
I hit my head, what is NaNoWriMo?
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is an annual event where writers from all over the world work toward the same goal - writing 50,000 words - while offering and receiving support from other writers.
Throughout the year, NaNoWriMo also provides resources and support for writers, as well as events like Camp NaNoWrimo.
Tumblr media
Okay, and who are you?
We’re Novlr, and we’ve got a long history with NaNoWriMo. Our co-founders, Kim and Thomas, and myself are all NaNoWriMo vets, and Novlr has sponsored NaNoWriMo since 2019 because we share their aims of supporting writers and uplifting the writing community.
Novlr is a writing workspace designed to get you from the spark of an idea to a completed first draft without any distractions.  We’re completely free to use for up to five projects, and we are the first creative writing platform to be writer-owned.*
We put writers at the centre of everything we do, and we work with our community to build the tools that writers need. We care about allowing every writer to focus on what’s most important — your words. And we are all about empowering  writers to achieve their writing goals, no matter what they look like.
Tumblr media
Why use Novlr this NaNoWriMo?
With Novlr, you can fully integrate your project with NaNoWriMo without having to manually keep track of your word counts.
We keep track of all your words automatically, from words written, deleted, to total word count. Our integration sends that data directly to NaNoWriMo, keeping your project updated on the NaNoWriMo site as you write.
We’ve also put goals front and centre in your writing workspace, which will keep you on track to reach your NaNoWriMo goals, as well as let you keep up your writing practice even after NaNoWriMo has finished.
Tumblr media
Lastly, we’ve got advanced writing analytics that will help you learn all about your writing habits, like when you’re most productive, and help you get the most out of your writing time.
In addition to the platform itself, I’m also going to be writing with you all this year!
Novlr will be hosting a NaNoWriMo kickoff event on November 1st at at 23:00 - 01:00 GMT / 18:00 - 20:00 CT.
Throughout the month, I’ll also be running regular writing sprints in our Discord and sharing lots of posts with inspiration, encouragement, and resources, as well as chat through our projects.
Join me and my writing buddy, Molly, for lots of creativity 😍
Tumblr media
No matter where you write your words, NaNoWriMo is the perfect time to build a writing community. I’ve made lifelong friends through my participation, and have got so many words written. Whether you use Novlr or not, participation is the key. And our community, and the NaNo community at large, are here to support you as you reach for the lofty goal of 50,000 words in 30 days.
I can’t wait to read all the amazing things you write!
Tumblr media
*P.S. While our Standard plan is completely free, we do offer some extras for those who want the extra push. As sponsors of NaNoWriMo, we’re offering all participants this year 40% off Novlr Pro for 12 months, and winners, 60%! Just visit the offers page in your NaNoWriMo dashboard.
Novlr Pro gets you unlimited projects, unlimited version history to restore older versions of your work, a ProWritingAid integrated proofreader for when you’re ready to edit, as well as access to our advanced analytics. Create your free account at Novlr.org.

Word Prompt: Bristle
How unbearably inane. He’d found the one thing in the world he refused to harm, even at the cost of his own injury. His own life, perhaps, meager, wretched life that it was. His heart, professionally numb, had opened despite his wishes and curled itself with feline unconcern around a woman with no more instinct for self-preservation than a moth. And yet, here she was—reckless, fragile, and…

The Start of a New Journey.
Hello y'all- Yeah. I dunno what to say. I just made this profile cuz I was bored and wanted to see how this community/social media thingy is. I'll mostly post updates (or sneak peeks) on upcoming stories that I am writing. Wattpad is still mostly my main writing platform but I slowly drifted towards AO3 so expect fanfics being posted there.

Substack for autotheory essays
I started a substack here: https://substack.com/@yeungyunglee My plan is to publish more autotheory and essays there. I did add a new essay category on this blog so I may keep posting here the most. I’m trying to figure out the best online platform to publish my politically radical content and it will depend on the mood over on substack if I continue with that. So far I liked some of the…

Does anyone have suggestions to replace Google Docs, free & no subscription?
I write a *lot* of poems and stories. I'm now at the point where, without a paid subscription, I don’t have enough storage in Google Suite for all of it. It just glitched because it thought my subscription ended (it didn't) and now I can't access any of my newer stories because it's stolen away my editing ability due to “not enough space”. I want my shit back.
I’ve mostly been using Google Docs because it was introduced to me in 2015 when I first began writing, as a place to do class assignments. Now I can’t use it because I write too much I guess. 😓
But every time I search for a new writing place I come up empty handed.
Most cost money, or seem free but everything requires in app purchases to function, or they don't have all the edit abilities I need, or it’s free but super glitchy and full of ads to the point of being unusable. I also get exhausted trying to find anything that meets all the criteria for what I need.
I want to get away from Google, especially after this fuckery. But ¿where can I go?
~~
Lists of what I need / am trying to find:
~~
Biggest problem I can’t find or replace:
- I need it to autosave (or be able to be saved) to the Interwebs so I can use my laptop *and* phone to edit the same story. Sometimes laptop works better for my brain, & sometimes phone does.
~~
Functions I use very frequently:
- bold & italic
- page colour (I need to be able to make it dark/black to read it, ADHD skips lines otherwise)
- text colour (again, need to change to see it, white & black are bad options; I usually use at least 3 colours in one doc)
- comment/suggest function
- share (suggest, edit, view separated) function
- “space after paragraph” (1.15 distance but I need that extra bump to distinguish paragraphs)
- alignment (right and center)
~~
Functions I use semi frequently / would be nice to have:
- checklist
- bulleted list
- ability to see definitions of words
~~
¿Can anyone help me out here? ¿Piracy Tumblr, writer Tumblr, anyone who knows how or where to find options?
I’m open to multiple suggestions, or a list. I just need somewhere to go/take all my stuff away from Google. 🥺
~(a very sad & frustrated) Nico

My Brief Impressions of Bluesky
So I am disillusioned with…the site that used to be Twitter, but still keeping it active to keep in touch with fellow writer contacts. I’ve joined other social media apps like Mastodon and CounterSocial, and although I don’t use them that much compared to Threads (Which has its own set of pros and cons that I’ll talk about later), but I finally managed to get an invite to Bluesky, which was…

List of “sweet and intimate actions which make me go feral and have me folding like a folding chair” prompts
Character B carding their fingers through Character A’s hair and playing with the strands.
Character B peeling back the neck of Character A’s turtle neck sweater to trail gentle kisses down their neck. (This!! It is so hot, and it's everything I didn't know I needed until now, and I cannot stop thinking about it wlkfnlkwe)
Character B placing their arm around Character A’s waist while in public, resting their chin on Character A’s shoulder. “Hello,” they say in a teasing tone as Character A tries to grab ahold of their hand to keep it there but fails a few times before successfully doing so.
Leaning against each other while in public.
Spooning and back hugs.
Character B letting Character A rest their head on their chest; lets them listen to their heart beat.
Character B whispering sweet nothings into Character A’s ear.
Character B checking in on Character A to make sure they’re comfortable and okay with the way things are going; to make sure they’re not being too much. “You’re not,” Character A would reassure, repositioning themselves to get closer to Character B.
Just cuddles and snuggles in general.
Neck kisses.
Kisses littered all over the face. (!!! It's one thing to read about it and one thing to experience it wlejbfewljn)
Character B tucking Character A’s head under their chin while they’re cuddling.
Character B nuzzling their neck and breathing in Character A’s scent/fragrance, and commenting on how nice they smell.
Character B making sure Character A gets home safe by driving them home.
Character A telling Character B to message them when they get back home safe, and once Character B gets home, they follow through by sending a message to let Character A know they’ve gotten back home safe.
Taking naps together, from day till night, waking up every now and then to get more snuggles in.
That soft exhalation of adoring laughter leaving Character B’s mouth after kissing Character A (this shit had me folding so fucking hard it’s not even funny. I Am Weak).
That soft exhalation of laughter once again just because Character B is so content with having Character A in their presence, and Character A just basking in how cute that sound is and how happy it makes them.
Character B entangling their legs with Character A’s, pressing their bodies flush against each other’s, leaving little to no space between them. (It’s almost like they can’t get enough of Character A.)
Kissing so many times, to the point where they lose track of how many times they’ve kissed already.
Holding hands and lacing their fingers together while they’re cuddling.
Comparing hand sizes and giggling about it together.
Character B stroking Character A’s hair while they’re asleep. (Or uh, pretends to be asleep DJSKKSKDSK but it’s so FUCKING CUTE WHEN HE DID THAT IM GONNA SCREAM, me thinking moments like these only happen in Korean dramas or some shit anfkakfksk-)
The sweet little banters in between; Character B being all cheesy and Character A playfully deflecting their comments only for Character B to playfully push back with an “Is something wrong with that?” or “But I’m not lying.”
Falling asleep in each other’s arms, both not wanting to leave the bed for the entire day and wanting to stay comfortably snuggled up against each other instead.
Character B placing their hands on Character A’s shoulders, and Character A, with a grin on their face, gently grabs Character B’s hands and wraps their arms around their neck while leaning back into them. Character B reciprocates by hugging them closer to them.
The soft noises of content Character A makes when they snuggle closer to Character B, or when they want Character B to hold them closer to them, with Character B happily obliging.
Character B rubbing their cheek against Character A’s.
Character B trying to not wake Character A up because they look so comfortable when sleeping. (His words, not mine.)
Soft, repeated pecks on the lips, causing Character A to laugh/smile against Character B’s lips.

Open Letter #40
Dear —, How stupidly precious it had all become. I hate holding onto fragile things. Delicate things were never meant for hands like mine, and in the span of a breath, I watched it all fracture, splintering into jagged edges that cut deep before I even thought to let go. One step at a time. One after the other. Steady rhythm. Soft taps of rubber on asphalt. Listen to that only, not the silence…

Carl is big on ao3. He has one fic and it’s a 125,542 word long novel that he updates weekly about his two gay ocs and their tumultuous enemies to lovers relationship.
It’s based entirely on Perry the Platypus’ relationship with Heinz Doofenshmirtz.

Hello everyone I am so unbelievably pissed about the NaNoWriMo situation that i'm going to take my massive stack of writing and craft books and my English degree and channel all my rage into making an email newsletter to send craft-oriented writing prompts and tips during the month of November. Say No to NaNoWriMo, but yes to WriMo. You get it.
I'm not going to make this have the same goals as Nanowrimo-- I'm not reskinning it but less ableist, I just really think having a whole month where people focused on their work is pretty cool and I want to keep up that spirit. This is going to be informal and run by Just Me, though I'll make a discord server if it's clear there's interest. Direct questions to @nowrimomo , which I literally just made and so will look like a skeleton currently.
I'm going to include prompts from various professional sources with options for Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Fanfic, so everybody can get in on this. It doesn't matter what you write, but we should all Write More.

JK's creations need to be purged from the public conscious. The next generations need to have never heard of HP.
And I was a person who was Harry's age & literally grew up with the books. She betrayed us, she broke our hearts, & now attacking us.
History should remember her only as a fascist.
And yes, purge includes the fandom.
You need to file those memories away as fond memories. Remember the joy, those are YOUR memories, but close the door on that time. It's over, and it's her own fault.
She betrayed ALL OF US. Don't let her hold anymore control over you. Find another fav.
All I know is that I've never felt more motivated to sit down & write my own novel, & create even more queer comics.
Drown out her lie of a series with better stuff. Flood the market w/ beautiful creations.
This is OUR world. NOT hers.
