I could get cancelled for this immediately, but does anyone else get really irritated when you see a certain subset of the queer community inserting themselves into other subsets’ issues?

Like when cis gay people think they can speak for trans folks just because “well we’re all lgbt.”

Or like gay men thinking they can make misogynistic comments about lesbians and use the word d*ke etc just because “well we’re lgbt too”.

Or (and this is a big one lately) queer women inserting themselves into conversations that are about issues specific to queer men, and acting like they have exactly as much credibility in the argument because “well we’re just as lgbt as you.”

It’s just like… yeah we’re all queer. But each individual group is their own mini community, and they all have their own things that are specific to them, and if you aren’t in that exact demographic then you don’t have the experience necessary to add your input on those topics. And if you go ahead and shove your way into the conversation anyway, then you’re like… only 5% better than a homophobe. If that.

hello! I noticed that your request is open and if you can, can you write something with s/o who had an ability similar to dazai Osamu from bsd? Like they can neutralize any magic with only physical contact that way they often wear a gloves, it can be one shot, scenario or imagine and any characters are fine though I prefer malleus :), that's all thank you!

Malleus and Riddle with an S/O who has a power like Dazai! Meaning they can neutralize magic with a touch! 

A/N: I’m happy to have my first request on my blog, you've also caught me in the middle of an inspiration spree so congrats :D! I found this really fun to right with Malleus and I wanted to add Riddle since I couldn’t get the idea out of my head of Riddle using ‘off with your head’ and S/O just being like ‘no<3’ Thank you again for sending in this request and I hope you enjoy! I decided to make these some short oneshots with some headcanons as well, hope that’s alright with you ^^!

Warnings: Ooc Malleus??(This is my first time writing him so i'm more than open to feed back!), not proof read

No gender was specified so I’ll keep the reader gender neutral! 

Characters: Riddle Rosehearts (838 words), Malleus Draconia (839 words)

Riddle Rosehearts :

You and Riddle had been in a relationship for a few months now. You both cared very deeply for each other as most couples did. He never pressed on the fact why you wore gloves often. He himself wore gloves so he didn’t see it as that strange of a thing. Possibly your hands got cold easily, or you just like wearing them. It had been a hectic day as usual, the usual shenanigans of the first years giving you gray hairs, the usual. You and your lover, Riddle, were usually the ones who dealt with the aftermath of whatever the first years did. You because you were part of the group, and Riddle because well, Ace and Deuce were part of his dorm. You and Riddle were having a small break having tea and talking about your days. It was a sweet moment the two of you would often half every other day or so. It was quiet, only your voices filling the elegant rose garden with light conversation. That was until it wasn’t so quiet… Ace and Deuce seemed to have a sixth sense for when the worst time to be annoying is. As they came through the rose maze yelling about something you couldn’t fully understand. You could see the steam that started coming out of his ears as the two continued to argue about whatever topic they had chosen today. Riddle stood up from his chair clearly angry at the two and yelled,

“What do you think you’re doing!? You’re breaking several of the Queen of Heart’s rules!?” You let out a sigh pressing a set of fingers to the side of your head. You didn’t enjoy having your afternoon with your lover interrupted by these two, even if you were used to their usual antics. You stood up from your chair as well next to Riddle with a partly disappointed expression directed towards Ace and Deuce. Riddle continued his rant and at that point the two boys had stopped their chasing and arguing and stood shoulder to shoulder taking the scolding. As much as it would be nice to have the boys have a proper punishment, if Riddle used ‘Off with your head’. Ace ,at least, would be at Ramshackle until the spell lost effect. Riddle was about at the point of using the spell and you could tell. 

“You know I might as well punish you right here! Off with you-!” Before he could get through the entire sentence you had slid your glove off and placed your hand gently upon his head. Ace and Deuce who were expecting the collar of Riddle’s spell and were very confused. Riddle also had a look of confusion and looked at you. You only smiled at him sweetly,

“As much as I know they deserve the collar, I wouldn’t enjoy Ace hunkering down at Ramshackle until the spell wears off.” Riddle had his hands directly at his sides and his face was flushed red. Both from the still persistent anger caused by the duo, and from the embarrassment of the situation in his eyes. Riddle still gave them a long lecture on several of the queen's rules before letting the two walk back to the dorm, most likely assigning them the duty or re-painting the roses. When the two were out of sight and out of ear shot, Riddle started to process what happened and had quite a few questions.

“Pardon me my Rose, but what was that just now..?” 

No matter how you decided to respond whether explaining your ability or not Riddle will be quickly fascinated by the ability, even if he’s kept in the dark about it

I could see him asking may questions if you do go into detail.

He finds the power partly similar to his own signature spell in the way that they can both block magic

He has a lot of questions lined up such as "Does it persist or is it only while you're touching the person"

If you don't want to go into detail or answer a certain question he'll respect it and not push any further.

From then on when ever you think he's about to use his signature spell in a situation you don't see fit, you give him a pat on the head and encourage him to calm down

He does find it a bit embarrassing and askes if you can touch him somewhere that's less obvious or flustering, like his wrist, since he most of the time also wears gloves.

This didn't change your relationship all that much for either of you

Riddle just saw this ability of yours as another reason why the two of you are a practically perfect fit!

You can make sure he's in check even when he's in a blind rage.

I can see the ability giving the person it's affecting a cooling feeling, Riddle enjoys the feeling partly as it reminds him to calm down and take a breath, it also reminds him you're with him :)

Malleus Draconia:

Mallus is naturally a curious person, and while he himself often wears gloves he was curious as to why you did the same. He simply did it because he was used to it with his dorm uniform. Did you have a similar reason or some other one? It was over the course of your time as friends and loves he’d ask out of the blue at times. 

“Child of man, why do you wear gloves so often?” You’d usually give the excuse that you just like to wear them, your hands get cold easily, and so on. But Malleus was still curious as to the nature of your glove wearing habits. He saw it almost as a mystery to solve, and he will attempt! He’d try to find times where your gloves were off and see what would happen. Most of the time nothing happened that looked or seemed out of the ordinary to Malleus. He partly paused his investigation once you got into a relationship, wanting to make every moment with you a positive memory in both of your eyes. It was wonderful and romantic, Malleus was very gentle and caring towards you, and you were never scared of him. He partly forgot about the entire mystery of the gloves. The months dragged on and then Malleus finally picked the mystery of the gloves back up. The more he’s around you the more he notices that when you do have your gloves off, you’re usually touching someone. The person is also half of the time wanting to use magic to escalate the situation. He slowly started to put two and two together but before he came to the full conclusion he did get the slightest bit jealous. How come you never touched him without your gloves? Had he done something to make you feel like you couldn’t? He got partly scared and went to talk with you about it and decided to no longer just do his own research in hopes of an answer. It was during one of your late night walks the two of you took weekly. It was a beautiful night with a half moon and the stars shining brightly in the sky. The two of you had found a small patch of grass in a clearing to watch the stars. You and Malleus were sitting next to each other in silence watching the stars when he asked the question.

“My dear? Why do you take your gloves off to touch others and not me?” His voice was curious and also a bit dampened by the memories of you giving that treatment to others, but not him. You let out a sigh and smiled, as you went into a short explanation of your power. At the end you looked up at Malleus with the smile still gracing your face,

“I never used it on you, because I know you’d never harm me or others Mal!” Malleus paused for a moment as his eyes widened and he had many more questions. You let out a soft laugh and tugged off a glove and placed the uncovered skin on the side of Malleus’ face. The cooling sensation washed over him and he leaned into your touch. 

“I wish I had known this feeling sooner, my dear… It’s comforting…”

Ever since then Malleus has loved whenever you touched him without your gloves on.

He didn’t mind that your touch canceled his magic, he never often used his magic outside of class except to do difficult tasks.

Like mentioned before he finds the cooling touch of your power comforting in a way he can not fully explain or comprehend.

Ever since you first touched him he’s been very affectionate, feeling your touch for the first time and since then he’s been hooked on it

Every time it’s just the two of you he’ll hold your hands and gently tug off your gloves

He loves it when you give him pets

Malleus also needs to have every form of affection with your hands, yes he had it before when your hands were gloved but now they were bare and it was a completely different experience!

Malleus will hold you hands and take in every feature of them, after being hidden under gloves for so long he needs to take in the beauty like he did before

I can also see him finding it partly humorous when a student gets confused when you use your ability on them, he also feels a sense of pride knowing that you wouldn’t have to use it on him for the same reason you used it on this random student.

He's so gentle with you as if you're made of glass and he loves to play with you hands

he's just a sweetheart over all and loved you dearly.

This didn't change your relationship much other than the fact that now he wants your gloves to be off when ever it's the two of you, i'll let you decide if that's a win or not!

Genetically Modified Skeptic - An atheist look at various issues relating to religion.

Godless Bitches - The Godless Bitches is a podcast focusing on atheist issues from a feminist perspective featuring Vi La Bianca, Jenna Belk, Jen Aldrich, & guests. The show streams every 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month at 6pm directly after The Atheist Experience.

Godless Engineer - Focuses on response to religious videos. Also has a “Bible Study” series.

Godless Granny – “Atheist commentary on the Bible, women’s issues, LGBTQ issues, legal/ political and other current events. Intent is to invite discussion leading to critical thinking about religion and it’s effects on people.” If you’re interested in hearing from an older atheist who deconverted later in life,this is the channel for you.

Gutsick Gibbon – She’s a PhD student in Biological Anthropology, so her main area of interest is human evolution and debunking creationist misinformation. According to her, in her channel you can find content  “concerning primates, general zoology, paleontology, anthropology, and evolutionary biology.”

Holy Koolaid - A channel by Thomas Westbrook (a former Jehovah’s Witness) that features news, discussions about the Bible, discussions about the historicity of events in the Bible, and more. He has a playlist for “Nothing Fails Like Bible History” and also often looks at religious cults.

JaclynGlenn -  An atheist who talks about a variety of topics.

JeGaysus – I’m not really sure if he’s atheist (sometimes I think he might be, other times I’m not sure), but his gay Jesus persona is too funny not to share.

Jimmy Snow - A show with a mix of subject material, typically dealing with atheism and LGBT+-related stuff.

John Cedars - A range of videos aimed at dissecting the various teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses, as well as new developments in the religion. In particular, he tries to keep on top of the latest propaganda released by Watchtower by way of video rebuttals as much as possible.

Skeptics & Scoundrels – A very new channel by an atheist ex-JW. I personally like him already. Before talking about why he disagrees with the paster he’s responding to, he makes a point of finding something nice to say about the person (“Your beard is cool – baby birds could nest in that thing!”), which I think it’s a neat and unique approach. He doesn’t have a lot of videos yet but give it time. :)

The SkepTick – A pretty fun channel of mostly reaction vids reacting to religious videos.

Sound of Science – Mostly a reaction video blog regarding unscientific beliefs.

Suris the Skeptic - He tackle issues of religion, morality, philosophy, and a touch of science.

I’mma muse about some stuff and it’s going to get a little lot dark so please tread carefully.

Topics will include assault, trauma, trauma processing, projection, and messy healing.

And oddly enough, it all started with realizing what defining moment it was that made Marco my #1 blorbo over Eustass Kid.

I love Eustass Kid - from canonical character to head canon king, I just love him. He is, as I’ve said, to me the quintessential dom - the quintessential Kinkster. Maybe it’s the aesthetic, or the misfits of the misfits vibe his entire crew has going on, or maybe I’m just projecting my own ideal onto a big beef cake.

Of all the mental/emotional deep dives I could go on, I’m not here to muse on that.

I realized Marco had overtaken Kid for me when I found myself craving dark fics with Marco. Not the kind where he’s being dark, the kind where Teach has his face in the dirt and his ass in the air and is threatening to slaughter all the survivors if Marco struggles against him.

And I realized that one of the biggest reasons for that - and I think most dark content - is the validation it provides. That the things I survived weren’t as avoidable as I used to believe, they were neither my fault nor within my control.

It’s a validation that even strong people can be victims and being one doesn’t make you weak or worth less.

It provides a way to navigate the healing after ward, and because we see the darkest parts of the trauma we can see the messiest parts of that healing too. The good days that weave between the neutral ones that are tied down by the awful ones.

The validation that healing is messy. For our heroes as much as for us, for the people we admire and disdain.

And fiction, fan fiction especially with the added layer of connection I feel that exists, let’s us apply those traumas not just from the hands of villains, but also heroes, such as they may exist in the original world. Good guys can do bad things - the person your community exalts Can be the villain who hurt you. The delinquent who broke your nose can also be the one who pulls you from a burning building.

We are complex.

It’s easier to process that complexity on the canvas of fictional characters sometimes than to face it directly. And I think that’s okay. I honestly think it’s wonderful - a beautiful, if not often misunderstood side effect of creativity.

And sometimes? Sometimes we break those beloved characters and end the story with them shattered. Because that could have been our end. That is the What If we hadn’t survived.

And I don’t think we’re always aware of this - I know a few people who don’t even realize how traumatized they are. They’re flippant, coping with humor, about things that make your blood run cold when you hear them. Sometimes denial fuels people, and they’re okay because they’re too strong to be a victim, too functional to be broken.

So we don’t realize why that drive is there. Why we want to see certain events presented in fiction. Why it feels like relief, or why we cry at parts we wouldn’t expect to prompt tears.

But kink, fic, bdsm, etc. as long as you aren’t exploiting or harming someone real, then I don’t think there’s a single thing wrong with how dark your content gets.

(If you start actually wanting to harm someone though, please seek professional help. Your fantasy/coping lines are blurring with reality and you’re gonna need external assistance carving that line back into place.)

But, odd as it is, to me, bad things don’t happen to Kid (I mean the canon material beats him up enough as well). Kid’s the rock that weathers everything so his crew stays protected. So *I* stay protected. Even if he was broken he’d never admit to it, not in any way that would lead to processing it and healing from it.

But to me, he doesn’t break.

Marco can. But Marco can also heal from it, and I’m not talking about his Devil fruit. I’m talking about wounds you can’t just bandage or regenerate. He’s strong, so strong, but he’s been through the ringer, and you only need to apply a little more pressure… and then heal with him afterward.

That makes him, to me personally, more relatable. And thus back to the seemingly innocuous reason for this - that’s why he’s my #1.

i know this is the sort of statement that people would absolutely take in bad faith and crucify me for if it blew up but the way some people online talk about communication and the way they feel their neurodivergence impacts it is just plain selfish. like, yeah, of course you should be able to be your most authentic self without being judged or looked down upon, but guess what? that’s not always what people are doing to you when they express discomfort or frustration with the way you went about something. i think people have gotten so caught up in the idea that actually, the real problem is the neurotypical expectations of society, that they’ve circled around to a good ol’ “you don’t owe anyone kindness! you don’t owe anyone anything!” style approach. and as a result, they’ve become convinced that anyone who doesn’t get along with them must just judging them for having visible symptoms.

but here’s the thing:

communication is a two-way street.

maybe you tend to interrupt people a lot. it’s not coming from a place of being inconsiderate, it’s purely automatic. and maybe you got made to feel bad about that when you were a little kid and you never figured out how to let go of that bad feeling, and then you saw a tiktok telling you that this was about impulse control, that the interruptions came from hyperactivity. and now, maybe, you feel absolved. now when someone feels like you’re not listening to them when you interrupt them, you just tell yourself that that person’s ableist and needs to learn how to tolerate you. except... more often than not? that’s not the case at all. in fact, maybe, that person is also neurodivergent, and knows exactly what causes the urge to interrupt, and maybe that’s why they feel like they can comfortably say “hey man, you interrupt me a lot and it makes me feel like you don’t value what i have to say” without you accusing them of ableism, to their face or otherwise. and when you say “well this is just what i’m like, get used to it or leave”, do you know which of those options they’re more likely to pick?

or maybe your go-to way to try to connect with people is to tell them about something similar that you’ve experienced. and maybe it’s the same thing where once you learned what caused this, you came to the conclusion that you should be allowed to do it whenever you felt the urge and that everyone else needed to learn how to understand, like, “neurodivergent communication styles” or something. but maybe you do it every single time someone tells you something. maybe you do it in really inappropriate situations. maybe you go into way too much detail when you do it, to the point where you’ve actually swung the conversation around to being about your thing instead. i’ve known people who would do that last one and then, when i tried to gently redirect things back to the original topic without being rude to them, they would ignore me and keep talking about themselves, only to use their neurodivergence as an excuse if i brought it up more directly. do you know why? it’s because they only cared about their own experience in the conversation. they could not comprehend the fact that the way they spoke to me had an effect on me.

and look, nobody, regardless of neurotype, is perfect. nobody is ever going to go through life without ever hurting someone else’s feelings in a perfectly preventable situation. but... if you can minimise how often you hurt people’s feelings, wouldn’t you? who you are is not a fixed thing. no, not even your symptoms. if you seem to constantly be hurting people’s feelings, then you need to accept that you’re the common denominator, and that you are capable of working on that. will it be uncomfortable? yeah, of course! does that mean it’s actually just masking and that these people are ableist pricks who are forcing you to be inauthentic to meet their standards? NO. it means that learning and growing takes time and effort, and that the time and effort required from you will probably be greater than the time and effort required of a neurotypical person who is doing similar things for different reasons, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for you.

and the process of breaking those habits is going to look different for everybody. maybe you’d fare best learning how to recognise the weight of the situation you’re in and consciously thinking “would this be an appropriate time to tell my own story”. maybe you’d fare best learning how to decrease the length of that relatable story so it really is just a related anecdote and not a diversion of topic from the other person’s problems to yours. maybe you just can’t suppress the urge to interrupt so you find coping mechanisms instead, like jotting down the thing you want to say and saying “hey can we circle back to this thing when you’re done” so that way you don’t forget the thought you had but you don’t have to sacrifice paying attention to remember it. it could be literally anything, and it could start out small too, if you’re not someone who finds it easy to develop new habits.

and the thing is, none of those require you to “seem neurotypical” or to “act like  a neurotypical” or to mask. you do not have to try to never interrupt or never express your understanding of a situation through the fact that you’ve been through something similar or whatever else it is you may do that has caused other people to feel devalued. there are plenty of neurodivergent people in this world who are able to be their authentic selves and be considerate to the person they’re talking to.

but if you’re doing something so constantly that it feels like everyone in your life has asked you to be more considerate, then please, try your best to remember that they’re as sentient as you are and that everyone has the ability to impact others for better or worse and that your intentions don’t negate that impact, and that everyone has the ability to try to be a little bit nicer. even just a little, if that’s all you can manage.

I’ve noticed a necessary increase in discussions of consent, boundaries, and violation in BL these days. I like Feel Good Shows with comic relief and innocent love, but I also like to feel challenged by fiction, and I think we’re seeing that more now than we have in the past few years. For BL specifically, I think it’s subverting genre expectations.

KinnPorsche is the strongest example. Kinn violated Porsche, ignored his boundaries, and did physical and emotional damage. There was a a breach of trust and trauma because of it. They showed the impact that it had and they gave the characters space to actually address the topic head on, avoiding the typical path of “if enough time passes, it’ll all be swept under the rug.” It’s like a cheap excuse to get the characters together early and present some conflict, but it’s toxicity is scarcely ever actually addressed (TharnType is the first example that comes to mind). 

And then there’s VegasPete. Toxic with a capital ‘T’. But, we see the emotional fallout of this as well as an albeit brief foray into concepts of self-worth, trauma, and manipulation. Even after Vegas apologizes to Pete, Pete doesn’t give in (at least, not at first). The point is that Pete knows that being with Vegas could hurt him even more in the future, but he desperately wants to believe that Vegas has changed--that he sees him as more than a pet...because toxic or not, he’s developed an attachment. The show doesn’t sell it as a complete redemption arc for Vegas (which would be incredibly unrealistic in the time frame)--but rather, as the necessary beginnings of one (at least when it comes to his relationship with Pete). None of this to say that either KP or VP’s relationship are desirable in real life, but they do the necessary work of portraying these issues and directly addressing their effects.

Then there are shows like Lovely Writer which, on the surface, are completely different. Actors and writers are in the spotlight, and suddenly we’re merging fiction and reality. Now with War of Y, we’re forced to ask even more questions about the nature of consent and boundaries in a much more industry-centric way that unfortunately goes unnoticed or unacknowledged a majority of the time. It’s a whole different side of the approach to boundaries in fiction.

I mean…imagine how conflicted you would feel if you knew the only way to succeed was letting yourself be violated. If you had to act like someone you’re not to please people. If you were expected to be okay with it all, because that’s just how the industry works. It isn’t talked about a lot, but to a certain degree, it involves sacrificing yourself and your body for the sake of your job. Add to that the threat of being cancelled for any little thing, whether it be your relationships outside of your acting ship or your aversion to acting out NC scenes. 

It’s sickening to think you would have to surrender yourself to your career or risk losing everything you’ve worked towards. It makes it less about the artistry of acting and all about the shipping dynamics and culture. You could say they knew what they were signing up for, but does that mean they should have to put up with it?

All of this to say that I’m glad we see lines being crossed in all sorts of different scenarios, situations and relationships—that’s the most accurate reflection of the kinds of issues we see in the real world. They all deserve to be talked about.

The biggest story I’m seeing is a current romantic partner, could’ve been something casual, or you/they treated it as such and done fkd up. 5th House is sex, so is Ace of Wands, Page of Wands brought down a Tower with some bs, and they’re learning about stupid behavior or foolish decisions. If not, it could be a kid, you’re the kid, or it’s a friend that you have very deep feelings for and they’re not actually your friend /switch. In the case of it being family, you love this person very much, it’s someone you are or were very close to, since childhood even, or your/their kids may have caused some damage in some way to this connection, or have been shaken by it - maybe with something they say. Something anyone has said, Page of Wands is excitable/passionate/sometimes angry, but Pages are messengers, not necessarily actions. There’s deep sadness over whatever has happened between you, King of Cups at the bottom can show the depth of your emotions for this person, or it can be this person, Cancer & Scorpio are both very strong from the jump. The Wise One is very similar to a Hierophant, following tradition, order, learning from lessons and committing to wisdom from those who have walked similar paths before you. It could be a parent or teacher, or that’s the general idea of the connection anyway.

This person being The Sun can only be positive, they are embodied happiness, the whole energy becomes light and joyful when they walk into a room, someone that doesn’t command attention but naturally invites it, very friendly and warm. 2 Swords clarifies, so for some this person doesn’t know your deep feelings, you don’t know theirs, you may not even really talk to them. Or if you do, there was something you or they didn’t know or fully understand that came to light. Flirty bs outside the connection if this is one, like them/you at all if one of you asks the other out (they like me??), some sort of property damage I’m seeing be possible due to reckless actions. Could be emotional but I’m seeing something actually broken. This may have been ignored or looked over, maybe it didn’t involve you or them directly - could be a step kid, kid’s friend, something like that for someone. If a parent/lover, you could have some sexual/romantic interests (people?) you’re hush about and they found out. I’m getting partner as much as I’m getting a kid and it’s making me 😶‍🌫️ I don’t like when these two topics intermingle. I don’t see toxic, but I do see cringe. Or feel it.

The relationship at least right now is either centered around passionate activities/messages or anger, someone is not having any of the bs no matter which direction it’s coming from. Someone is grounded, left behind, get your shit, no more phone, I mean someone is pissed. The Emperor rev can be quite controlling and could even have a hard time controlling their anger, showing up as a dictator and overly harsh or acting as an authority but can’t control themselves so who are they controlling here? Probably them, could be you, I don’t really see that as the whole relationship, because it still feels together, but it is the effects of whatever this Tower was. Someone is moving on towards a new beginning or already has, and another person is maybe trying to control that or feels angry about it. Anything they can do, they’re doing, not to better themselves or fix things, but to stop YOU. Or them. From moving forward.

What you’re learning is to cut off excess bs if you want to heal a connection, 3 Cups is reversed and 2 Cups is the future potential, whatever the problem is needs to be removed or you’re working on that. Healing is Justice, that’s what you want, you feel like “you’ve seen the light” or something. Or you can see they they have, if this is them. Someone is burdened by reckless passionate decisions, whether anger or romantic idk. Either/both. If this person has moved away from you, or vice versa, the other one is like “baby I can change!!” If another connection, you or they may have had to just remove themselves from the situation in order to heal - and it may not have anything to do with you. A kid’s friend is a bad influence and needs to go. A kid is on some dating profile bs and you flip tf out, no more phone. Removal - and healing. Whatever it is feels like a massive wake up call.

Could be a new perspective, something is new and away from whatever this disaster is - for the sake of peace of mind. I keep hearing “peace”. Clarity, truth, peace, whether they cut something off or not idk, it’s possible with Ace of Swords, or switch. Future potential isn’t totally determined. 2 Cups is romance, a deep connection, a close partnership with someone even family. 9 Wands clarifies as having gone through hell, a lot of pain, there are wounds, 5 Cups shows loss, mourning, deep regret and sadness. Death & 10 Wands at the bottom. Someone is trying to save this, but is it too late or not idk. For some it’s already over with, this person has moved onto other things. For others, it may not be and you’re scrambling to try and fix it /switch. A bad accident or event caused two people to split. Self-Love at the bottom of the oracles, for some of you the focus needs to be yourself, healing, moving forward on your path once you’ve seen what it needs to be. Or that’s their energy. If the hurt wasn’t between you two at all but some outside thing/person/trauma (kid’s friend), then healing is necessary and the love between you is genuine. 9 Wands is perseverance through difficulties, that’s either the goal or what someone is trying to do, ending something altogether is a burden.

I’ve had a theory about how symbolic the structure of “In For the Kill” by Winger  is, and haven’t been quite sure how to bring it up without it seeming right out of the blue.  But, @nocturnal-light was interested in it, so I guess opportunity knocks to describe why this song is so great.

First of, for context -at the surface, and in simplest terms, it’s an anti-war song. Not an uncommon topic among bands that emerged in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.  This one is already hinting at a different view, where even when there might not be an active war, it’s continuing under the surface/at home in every day life with twisted things society does.  “Day after day, it’s always the same…” And that sadly still holds up today in a lot of ways.

However, there’s a structural trick starting in the middle of the song, building up to the guitar solo.  The key drops from G sharp minor (or, what would be like playing in A minor if you had a guitar tuned in D flat, as many 80s metal era bands did) to G minor, which has a notoriously dark tone.  There’s a lot of movie soundtracks that actually use G minor in the background when the antagonist or villain appears -Star Wars being perhaps one of the best known examples.  And, “In For the Kill” takes on the structure of a militaristic march at this point in the background.  While Kip Winger has the lead vocal, which has the fluid structure of most lead vocal lines, the background vocals are very stiff, falling directly on and punctuating the beat so that you could count the four-by-four rhythm on the words -”Don’t fill my eyes, fill my head, til I’m overloaded; you talk, and you talk, and you talk, but I don’t hear anything” (emphasized beats in italic, first word usually hangs over both beats one and two, but with all four emphasized on the end of each line with reverb).  These are shown as the official lyrics, however, the lead vocal that Kip sings is “you talk, and you don’t hear the clock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick”.  And, if you’re listening in on Kip’s lead vocal, you almost don’t hear what the backing vocals are saying (something I was especially tuned to last year when I broke my headphones and the left side played quieter than the right, which exacerbated that effect, though it still stands with balanced sound).  The same can go in reverse, in that his lead can disappear into the lower, background line when focusing in on that.  What does that possibly mean beneath a song about a society being brainwashed by war ideology and propaganda? (aka, “Yankee Doodle leading lambs to slaughter”… in a war-like march, repeating as anyone else would say, indeed).  The very structure of lead and backing vocals has physically mimicked what the very lyrics are portraying.

That same section reprises toward the end, in the main key of G sharp minor -sometimes described to give off a feeling of an angry struggle, though I find it the perfect combination of the menace of G minor and the angst and drama of A minor -and both work here.  It has a much more desperate feeling than the middle of the song, almost of losing in the battle described.  “…You know I don’t hear it anymore, and you keep on moving…”.  The reverb on the march-time background vocals is full force to reunite it all on “overloaded”, almost creating an overloading sound.  “My word’s no good, it’s not enough” is the last vocal other than that march-time repetitive backing vocal in the fade-out, right as there’s a descending guitar lick that in context, feels like a mental spiral into brainwashed, mind-controlled madness -yet another mind lost and led ‘in for the kill.’ Not as impactful in symbolism as the first time around, but in context with it, it’s the progression of the events portrayed in the message.

a typical [school problems] genre thread of assigned fiction reading became a book about winston as an elementary or middle schooler, and how there was a new girl who, i guess to sort of change the conversation around herself from [being the new girl] instead established the topic as her having a crush on someone, this being winston who she’d already interacted with more often than others / was closest to friends with. but he was kind of uncomfortable with this and so there was a scene with them talking about it and her explaining it seemed like the kind of thing she was supposed to do, with mutual genuinely liking each other but not necessarily so far as [let’s declare mutual crushes or bother with that framework at all at the present]. and yet there was a sort of dramatic irony tone conveyed for the audience that, not that this was incorrect / inaccurate or anything, but naturally that anything associated w/that framework might not be off the table forever, especially what with having a whole discussion about things really here just cementing that they do both want to be / consider themselves like friends proper. there was a little illustration like so:

more granular and vivid details: one scene being observed half directly as a real event, half through reading about it, ended with philip and taylor at a distance (winston keeps the pov) sitting in a field by water, and philip being playfully affectionate with taylor like 😉 and holding their hand and calling them “baby” while taylor is like 😳 like so:

and another scene specific enough to have drawn was that, after having enjoyed a swim (philip constantly appearing in usual canon-type business suits despite the outdoors activities, even this one) winston kind of [tag you’re it]’d philip out of the water and they had this drenched like wrestle embrace ft. winston pressing his face to philip in as close to a kiss as anything else that happened. had as much or more as a like lighthearted playful energy as anything as well despite the [intricate rituals] and [sounds like a sexually charged kind of situation perhaps] lol like well once again it needn’t Not be that, but things are casual and spontaneous And homoerotic. everyone simply being comfortable enough despite tensions of [discuss that you’re nervous abt there being hot gossip abt you as a Crush] or [flirtation ft. the recipient being flustered] or [plenty of physical touch plus affection] like so:

let’s go boys! and of course, relevant as well that winston was Deeply Affectionate and Closely Aware/Attentive towards taylor the whole time, sometimes conveyed simply through how again taylor scenes were seen through him as the pov character and myself as the pov beyond that, like, of course there’s tayston and of course there’s plenty of like, well anyone here may be liable to kiss anyone and everyone else. tl;dr everyone enjoying this refreshing outdoors excursion and being comfortable in the marinade of any of that tension re: potential increased emotional and/or physical intimacy with each other out there, like, as a metaphor, having a stretch and despite the element of [!] there it can also be unthreatening, welcome, pleasant and it can be like “well i’m glad for the greater flexibility this can yield. and/or being warmed up for something. and/or easing an uncomfortable physical sensation. etc” lol. good for them

Okay since you guys were curious to hear my plot idea, here’s roughly what I have. Heed the warnings, if you’re uncomfortable with any of the topics I will discuss here, this post is probably not going to be something for you, stay safe.

TWs: Classism, mental, physical, and sexual abuse (the sexual part will be implied but I won’t talk about it explicitly or in detail), eating disorders, self destructive behavior, fantasy racism, fantasy prejudice, toxic relationships, kidnapping, age gap relationships (one side being a vampire, the other being a reincarnated human), r/kvl is there but in possibly the worst light imaginable, R/ook is the villain here so if you like that ship or character and want to see positive things about them, you’re better off skipping this post as well, blood drinking, hypnotism, memory manipulation

This AU is set in a high-fantasy world with a multitude of magical creatures living more or less together. Obviously, there are scuffles and not everyone likes each other very much, but things have been getting... better. In the last twenty or so years, the most notable change was integrating vampires to predominantly human society. Consensual blood-drinking is legal and aside from organ donor cards, there is another set that gives consent to be turned into a vampire, should the patient suffer a life-threatening injury and vampirism was their only way to survive. The general consensus is slowly turning around, at least for the lesser vampires who got turned since these changes came in effect, but most people are still wary of vampires of old, especially the so-called greater vampires who have been around for a couple centuries. The Isle of sages used to be sort of a testing ground for these changes that are only recently being implemented around the wider world, so many greater vampires moved there some time ago and decided to stay. Partially due to this, the Isle of Sages also has a large magical police force presence, especially when it comes to those specialized for dealing with the supernatural.

When it comes to the vampire rules I use in this story, there’s quite a few. Sunlight, obviously, is deadly to them. In order to go out during the day, they can, however, carry umbrellas or large hats. While indirect sunlight can be unpleasant and give the more sensitive vampires rashes, it is not exactly harmful unless it hits their skin directly. The age and power of a vampire can be determined by their fangs, with lesser and younger vampires having smaller and thinner fangs while greater vampires sport both longer and thicker ones. This also makes bites from greater vampires significantly more painful. Both lesser and greater vampires have access to a limited charm or hypnotic ability, with greater vampires being able to essentially take control of another person for a short period of time. The target of such charm ability will usually have no memories of what happened while they were charmed. The older a vampire gets, the harder it becomes for them to eat solid food. This is not an issue with being unable to digest human food but rather stems from the limited ability to break down solid substances. A greater vampire may still be able to drink tea or coffee without any issue even if they can’t eat solid food. There are exceptions to this rule though. Some more sensitive vampires cannot stand even the smell of garlic but this is quite rare. Silver burns them but they show up in mirrors that aren’t relying on silver in order to reflect things. Their regeneration is incredible and it is very hard to kill or permanently injure one unless one uses silver or direct sunlight to aid them, though it is also possible to starve them. New vampires are created when a vampire shares their blood with a human they drank from. Last but not least, as vampires are beings of darkness and undeath, plants picked by a vampire wither or dry very quickly. Due to this, it became customary to gift vampires dried flowers instead of fresh ones. Vampires don’t have any transformative abilities on their own but those who have been around for a while and cultivated their magical abilities can become powerful mages.

Vil is one of the greater vampires. He came to the Isle of Sages pretty much as soon as the legal changes first took place not only to make his own life more comfortable but also because he genuinely feels more comfortable taking blood from people who consent rather than having to charm his way to them. He lives a mostly secluded life and only talks to a few people on a regular basis. The two people he would say he is the closest to would ba Trey, another greater vampire who works at the hospital primarily as a dentist but is also in charge of turning the people who gave their consent, and Silver, a human part of the magical forces with a specialization in vampires. Other characters who exist in this AU but aren’t relevant to the story include Azul, who is also a greater vampire, Cater, who is a lesser vampire turned very recently by Trey after what was dubbed a car accident, and the Leech twins who work with Azul but aren’t really interested in being turned into vampires themselves yet. Sebek exists and is actually married to Silver but Vil never gets to meet him.

First things first, Vil is very much the type to view his vampirism as a curse. We learn pretty early on that he never wanted to be a vampire and that his turning and the whole situation around it was... pretty traumatic. Even now, centuries after it happened, he still occasionally has nightmares when he sleeps at all, and physical contact is something he prefers to avoid and keep minimal when necessary. He carries a silver locket with nightshade flowers engraved upon it, keeping it wrapped in several layers of handkerchief to protect himself from its burn.

There is nothing big or significant happening on the world scale that would kick off the events of this story. Rather, the story starts a little bit before R/ook moves to the Isle of Sages. Shortly before that, Vil suffers a terrible nightmare of his past, vivid memories coming back to him as a dark premonition, and it disturbs him quite a lot. He shares a little of them with Silver but he opens up more to Trey who knows a little about his past already. The full extend of it would be revealed gradually over several instances but I do have the write-up of the bulk of it.

Before Vil turned into a vampire, he was part of the nobility and, behind his father’s back, was seeing a commoner whom he was very much in love with. Obviously, this was a relationship with no future and Vil knew about it but he was hoping he would at least be able to continue it even after the arranged marriage he was pushed into. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The person Vil ended up marrying turned out to not only be a vampire but also a terrible person. Not long after Vil got married, he was announced to have fallen sick and eventually succumbed to his disease, when in reality what actually happened was Vil getting repeatedly snacked on by his vampire partner, locked away in the dungeon underneath the mansion, and eventually turned into a vampire himself. A lot of this was tied to his partner being completely obsessed with him, and very paranoid about Vil leaving or cherishing someone else or not thinking about them enough etc. What resulted from this obviously terrible arrangement were several decades of every kind of abuse imaginable, Vil getting psychologically picked apart and rearranged as his partner saw fit, punished for not behaving the way his partner wanted him to, starved and fed minimally to keep him weakened. On top of that, since he was hiding the locket which was really his last tie to the life he had before, he had to live in constant fear that even that would get taken away from him. This lead to some quite self-destructive behavior from Vil such as hiding the locket underneath the clothes he was allowed to keep, putting himself in constant pain and going to great lengths to ensure his locket was safe. The treatment Vil was subjected to also lead to severe problems when it came to eating as even after being freed from this nightmare, Vil wasn’t able to feed properly, every solid meal making him violently throw up and drinking blood bringing back horrific memories of his abuse which made him continue to starve himself until he more or less resigned himself to his fate.

Vil was only able to escape his prison months after his partner mysteriously disappeared one day. After years of being locked up in a small room and having no news whatsoever about the outside world. Furthermore, in order to make Vil more dependent on them, his partner didn’t tell him anything about the powers or limitations of a vampire, leaving him completely socially crippled. And to make this venture into the outside world even worse, Vil was promptly confronted with a line of vampire heads and skulls on pikes just outside the town he once lived in – including the head of his torturer.

All of this kind of comes to a head when, during one of his friendly meetings with Silver, Vil notices R/ook in the crowd and is immediately distraught. While Silver doesn’t quite understand what happened, he accompanies Vil back home and makes sure everything is safe enough before departing for the day. Unfortunately, things are not quite as easy. Not only does R/ook already know where Vil lives but it doesn’t take him that long to visit, professing his love for the vampire and asking to be turned into one as well so that they may be together once more. Unlike most people who have reincarnated, R/ook regained full memories of his previous life – something he attributes to his strong “love” for Vil and the connection they supposedly share. And while Vil is much too panic-stricken to give a decisive answer, he is saved promptly by Trey who heard from Silver that something was off about the way he acted previously. While Vil is obviously shaken up, he does manage to somewhat calm down thanks to Trey’s presence, and Trey reads into the situation enough to not leave until R/ook does first.

After he does, Vil confesses to Trey that R/ook was the one who, in his past life, had turned him and subsequently held him imprisoned for several decades. However, there is more to his motivations than just obsession, and in some twisted way, Vil does believe there was genuine love in what he was doing. According to things that were said between the two of them in the past, Vil believes R/ook and him used to be lovers a lifetime or two ago, before Vil was the one hunted down and murdered. While Vil himself has no memory of these events, he does understand the yearning for lost love and how desperately one would wish to make things right again – he isn’t any different after all. At the same time, Vil is terrified of ever ending up being the same, or even similar, and inflicting the same pain on someone dear to him as R/ook inflicted upon him. He’s been hoping that, since he hasn’t heard from or ran into R/ook in all the centuries since, that chapter of his life was over, but unfortunately, he was not that lucky.

This, of course, unsettles Trey, and he reports this to Silver’s department. What this leads to is Vil having an officer by his side almost at all times, this often being Silver thanks to his special training. With their interactions growing more and more frequent, we learn another little bit of Vil’s past. Small memories of him and the person he was in love with, dancing together, watching stars, enjoying each other’s company. They almost always had to meet after dark due to the secrecy of their relationship, a fact which Vil laments now that he cannot enjoy the sun ever again. At the same time, Silver starts having dreams that feel more like foggy memories, prompting him to search for answers on his own. And after several weeks of no suspicious activity surrounding Vil, the protective guard is eventually called off as well. Vil is still rather distraught and Trey spends as much time with him as he can but that still gives the vampire quite a lot of time when he’s alone and vulnerable.

And, much as expected, R/ook comes back not long after, pleading with him, promising he changed and things will be different, even offering Vil to do exactly as he had done with him before. Of course, the only thing Vil wants from him is to be left alone, but he doesn’t exactly get that luxury. Afraid to leave the safety of his home, Vil begins to slowly grow weaker and his mental state also takes a nose-dive, a fact that greatly worries both Trey and Silver during their occasional visits. But between Trey’s hospital job, Silver’s police forces job, and their personal lives, they don’t really have enough time to keep tabs on Vil at all times, leading to both his mental and physical state further deteriorating.

A few days later, Trey gets a distressed phone call from Vil regarding his locket that mysteriously vanished without a trace. Trey helps him look but the only thing they find are traces that someone broke into Vil’s house and must’ve stolen it. Of course, R/ook is the main suspect almost immediately but even after his house and belongings are searched, the locket doesn’t turn up, and it only stresses Vil out further. Finally, he reveals to Trey that inside of the locket, he was keeping a sketch of the very person he fell in love with all those centuries ago which is also why he so painstakingly protected it from R/ook while he was imprisoned.

The next part needs some more thought as I am not quite sure what should happen to keep the search for the locket going so I don’t skip from it being lost straight to it being found so there will need to be more plot here. Perhaps Trey takes some time off work to spend more time with Vil to make sure he’s alright, perhaps I will delve more into Silver’s domestic life with Sebek or into his dreams of the past or how he and Sebek have actually been lovers over several lifetimes as well. I’ll have to decide.

After a week or two, a fire breaks out on the Isle and in its aftermath, the locket is found once again, but not as it was before. The sketch Vil treasured so much is burnt up and seems as though someone also scratched out the face of the person in it, but nobody is arrested for starting the fire as there are very few traces of the culprit. Vil is utterly destroyed and even though he takes the locket back, he no longer carries it with him. The next several days he spends locked inside his apartment. Painting. Sketching. Drawing. Pictures upon pictures of the same person, the same face. None of them small enough to fit in the locket but that’s the least of his worries. He cares a lot more about possibly forgetting the person he once loved so dearly.

When Trey visits him, he is shocked. Not only by the sheer amount of pictures but mostly because the person in all of them is unmistakably Silver, only with minimal differences – longer hair, freckles sprinkled over the bridge of his nose, a small cross-shaped scar on his upper lip... When he confronts Vil about it and why he never told Silver, Vil finally breaks down, admitting that yes, part of the reason why he befriended Silver was because he knew, but at the same time, he couldn’t bring himself to ever tell Silver about it, both because Silver has a life of his own, one which Vil is not a part of, and because Vil is deathly afraid of growing to be like R/ook and completely suffocating Silver’s personal life because of his own obsession.

This is, sadly, about as much as I have for now. I still need to come up with a proper ending that would tie all the loose ends together and resolve both the central conflict and the side issues. Unfortunately, so long as my current creative block continues, I don’t think I’ll get much more done but this is certainly an idea that I would like to finish one day.
