Bruce Wayne dies, and like a prayer, Jason Todd returns to Gotham. Always too late.

He never followed his plans or became Red Hood, instead finishing his schooling and traveling for a while with Talia to stay in shape. He and Damian on and off text or call, but they both know the other is living the way they need to. They’ll always be there, but sometimes you need your own space to figure out what you really want.

When Dick takes up the mantle and Damian becomes Robin, Jason takes a posting at Gotham University and rents an apartment in the alley. Damian comes to visit and Jason tells him stories, as many as he can remember. The kid wanted to know his Dad, after all.

They don’t tell the others. Instead, grieving the loss of their Father together. When Jason came back to Gotham he expected anger. Now he just feels lost.

It’s completely on accident that Dick learns his identity. He gets a call one night from Damian, not panicked but alert. He’s calling for backup because Batman was shot.

Jason has the two of them in the back of a stolen car and makes it all the way past the security of the Batcave before he really comes to his senses. It’s a bit of a clusterfuck after that, between Alfred and Leslie trying to prioritize Dick while interrogating the imposter until they’re satisfied he’s just Jason. Their Jason.

And maybe it gets a little better. Jason has to go out as Batman until Dick’s back on his feet, so he and Damian patrol together and come home to Alfred and Dick. He goes to see Babs at the Clocktower and she introduces him to his sister, Cass, one of the few people Damian speaks highly of.

It’s different, and weird, and he and Dick have a couple of fights. But it could be worse. Slowly but surely, they figure things out. Try to move on.

And then Tim comes home and like a prayer, Bruce Wayne is alive again. Always too late.

If DC wants to keep pushing out different types of Gotham War comics for every year, they may as well make a Gotham Batman Ships war next year. They get to make light fun of their fans. Batman is spread all over somewhat romantically like hummus. They get to bring in different heroes and Gotham villains to fight reluctantly (they don’t want the Batman they just want the honor). The batkids get to sit cute on the sidelines and laugh at their dad’s misery. It’s fun

I’m back on my Tim Drake doesn’t have a Bristol accent agenda! He only lived in Bristol for max 2 years and that’s including the time he lived with Bruce. Until 14 he spent his time moving between various houses across Gotham City and in various boarding schools in Gotham. (No I don’t know why Gotham has multiple boarding schools or why Tim went to multiple boarding schools). He lived with Bruce in Wayne manor at 14, but by 14/15 his dad woke up from the coma and they bought drake manor. Living in drake manor for, maybe a year and a half, before at 16 they have to sell the manor, and they move to a brownstone in Gotham city proper again. Then when Jack dies, sometime very soon after that he barely has time to live in Bristol again before the Red Robin happens where he is (probably freshly) 17. Your accent is pretty well developed when you reach 14, and none of the boarding schools are in Bristol, or implied to have alot of students from them. Even then he only spends his school time there, the rest of the time he spends all across Gotham. That is to say his accent is probably a non-dialectical version of a Gotham accent. Something ambiguously middle class but could just as easily be upper middle class or working class. He probably favours the accent of a certain area in Gotham but he also probably mixes slang and specific dialectical features. This is all to say anyone realistic wouldn’t be able to differentiate his accent from a crime ally accent, and Gotham natives wouldn’t be able to place where exactly in Gotham he’s from other than to say where he isn’t from. He probably just sounds like he’s from a New Jersey that locked itself culturally off from even the rest of New Jersey and spawned a new weirder New Jersey accent.

#aimeespeaks #tim drake #red robin #most Gotham natives wouldn’t think much on it except to note his not from Bristol or the east end #otherwise all bets are off #your accent is so heavily effected by your early speech development his probably the only bat-member who’s accent is actually purely Gotham #Steph Jason and dukes are all probably obviously east end accents (Bowery park row and narrows respectively)#Bruce’s is a 100% Bristol accent. even then there’s probably a heavy British influence in it that sets him apart from other Bristol resident #due to his sheltered early childhood and isolation post parents death (I hesitate to say he spends anytime in Gotham proper until he’s bat)#Alfred’s is English (I hesitate to theorise on what his queens English specific accent says #about him beyond just being a English butler cause it’s definitely a symptom of 1950s American writer)#dicks like 10 when his parent die. he definitely adapts Gotham slang and some words he learns only to say in Gotham but his accent is #probably a thick travellers accent (I don’t know much about American travellers or circuses so I can’t say more)#Damian doesn’t speak with even a hint of a Gotham accent #I hesitate to say with his upbringing he even speaks in a Arabic accent. i can only imagine him in a mix of transatlantic and rp English #that is to say Tim probably has an accent most unintrusive to civilians #I imagine with every other memeber a civilian describing them would point out their accent if spoken to even a little #it probably wouldn’t even occur to a civilian to point out anything to do with Tim’s voice. and if pushed they would probably just be like #‘idk he’s from somewhere in Gotham’#cass is the only other one who I can see speaking in a unambiguous Gotham accent but even then if she speaks more than a few words it’s #gotta be a crazy accent she’s pieced together

I am alone on this barren earth (Jason Todd liker and Mia Dearden liker who honestly thinks issues 69-72 of the 2001 Green Arrow run are fun and good and would really like to talk about them beyond "Jason Todd was ooc and irredeemable there because he was trauma-dumping on Mia but also everything he said was fake and made up and he was manipulating her to become his sidekick and he blew up her school in retaliation because she didn't so really we should ignore the whole comic as bad writing /or agree he should just be read as an sadistic sidekick killer" (None of which is true and over half of which is directly stated to be false in the comic's text) but all people ever have to say about the comic is weird wrong takes about the three pages in which the gym fight happens ripped out of the very interesting and fun surrounding context)

#i truly do wonder why we're always going the least interesting route interpretation-wise even when it directly contradicts canon #why have complex characters making complex points through off methods when we can have boring ones clearly labeled as good and evil #maybe if i wanted to talk about this i should have been alive in 2001 but like. we still talk about it today we just don't say anything fun #maybe. just maybe. there's a reason the panels go directly from jason letting go of mia and stepping back #to mia escaping and going “i escaped”#“unless ofc he let me go”#that is not jason making an attempt on her life (because this didn't happen we see him let go)#mia wasn't even his secondary goal he just took her to make a completely unrelated point and decided to have a convo while he was at it #jason having the capability to end it but letting mia go vs joker pretending to give jason an out and taking it away (locked door)#except in both jason ends up staying in the building #i know we don't like n52 rhato but the roy jason discussion in the Bruce-Ollie convo make me think they could have been done well #but that's not my point #i just feel like some of you guys are too quick to take an interesting comic and toss it out because one thing happens that you dont like #kinda throwing the baby out with the bathwater #i wish we saw more of mia dealing with the repercussions of their convo i want to know more of what she was thinking #green arrow 2001 #jason todd #this isn't mainly about mia's character so i'm not gonna block her tag up with this

the girls' reaction to finding out that whilst they've all been on (questionable) adventures of self-discovery, dick has managed to land himself in jail, and national television:

donna: the huff and the "you've gotta be fucking kidding me" said it all. as soon as she found out, it became her problem too. dick is the only cause of donna's 'my circus my monkeys' moments.

kory: still trying to figure out if she's in a dream or not. shit gets crazier by the second. i think she's also finally processing that the tv static was the reason she ended up there. she's just a couple steps behind.

dawn: the little shake of her head i can't. she's definitely having a mother moment. she's just like 'well yeah we left you, but that was supposed to be for a period of self-reflection dude??? not for you to go to jail????" she's also totally realising that dick is literally the only person on earth that could pull this shit, ever.

rachel: 100% shock, mainly because she's been having visions of dick again, and is just finding out this is why. also just the whole dick being in jail thing, she thought SHE was the one having issues. out of all of them she knows dick the least too, they all knew he had the capabilities for this, but it's completely new to her.
