Hi.... If you don't mind me asking, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series/games/etc) and your top 10 favorite characters from any media ? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this questions before......
Hello to you as well. I don’t mind people asking me questions and I haven’t answered this before. This is long so read more under the cut.
I prefer the number 7, so I’m gonna do my top 7 favorite pieces of media. Don’t let the numbers fool you, these are in no particular order. Also, be warned, I don’t know how much sense what I say will make to anyone who has watched/read these.
1 - Naruto/Shippuden (only those two and specifically the manga) - I have thought about, analyzed, and talked about this series too much to lie to you and say it isn’t one of my favorite series of all time. Even with all of its flaws, it holds a place near and dear to my heart. It has some of my favorite character work I’ve ever seen even with its imperfections, the first 27 volumes of Naruto are still some of my favorite written books/manga, Kakashi vs Obito is my favorite fight in any piece of media (quite frankly, the Naruto anime has ruined fights scenes for me), and this series is what inspired me to get into media analysis in the first place.
2 - Fullmetal Alchemist/Brotherhood - This is my legally obligated mentioning of Fullmetal Alchemist and the Brotherhood anime adaptation. Excellent character work (+actually good female characters), beautiful art, some of my favorite foreshadowing/slow burn ever, and commentary on the hubris of man and strength in collectivism while criticizing both the military and the institution of religion. Chef’s kiss! This is a great example of someone knowing what story they wanted to tell and fucking telling it. The biggest problem I have with the series is that every time I want to rewatch it, I feel the need to watch all of it at once and that’s just a lot of anime for me to devote my full attention to in one sitting.
3 - Madoka Magica (I can only vouch for PMMM, I haven't watched the other stuff) - Fun fact: this is the first piece of media to make me cry. Something about Sayaka’s story just… got to me. I really like this because it’s an example of a deconstruction done right. Of the few other deconstructions I’ve seen, they tend to be too shallow to even really feel like deconstructions or too dark. Madoka Magica hits that sweet spot of going to those deep and dark places while still maintaining a sense of hope.
4 - Across the Spiderverse - Since I’ve recently slipped into quite the superhero phase, all inclusions are superhero related moving forward. So I remember going into the theater to watch this completely blind. I had heard of Into the Spiderverse and had heard nothing but positive reviews, but I also wasn’t big into superheroes or Spider-Man so I never watched it for myself. I don’t think I made it through the first ten minutes of atsv before thinking “Goddamn it, now I have to watch the first movie.” Between the two, I had to pick atsv because, while I did like itsv, I had some problems with it. Namely, I thought that it underutilized a chunk of its cast (Spidernoir, Spiderham, Peni, and the villains felt wasted) and I thought they could’ve done more with the interdimensional travel idea. Atsv made these pretty much complete nonissues. The only character I felt like could’ve used a bit more attention was Spiderbyte, that was the only issue I had with it besides the movie ending before I was done watching it. Other than that, I don’t know what else I can say about this movie that hasn’t been said a million times before. The art is disgustingly, dream-crushingly good and if the writing doesn’t match that level of skill, it gets damn close.
5 - My Adventures With Superman - My Adventures With Superman has my favorite adaptation of Superman hands down. Yeah, I like my Clark Kent with a little more self-confidence, but for a Superman who’s just starting out and the story they wanted to tell, it works. As I’ve said before, I don’t care for him being used as a racial allegory but I do like them exploring his sense of identity. The series automatically gets points for two very underrated but important parts of writing: the main couple is actually one I can root for and it doesn’t waste the audience’s time. What I mean by not wasting the audience’s time is that they don’t draw out the Clark is Superman reveal or the will-they-won’t-they between Clark and Lois unnecessarily. It also has the first villains I genuinely want to strangle in a while (looking at you Amanda “The Audacity” Waller and Lex “Make Earth Great Again” Luthor). I can’t wait to see what they do with Superboy in season 3.
6 - The Batman (2022) - To continue the train of DC characters finally getting good adaptations: the Battinson movie. The set design, the cinematography, the action, the pacing of the mystery (it’s a long watch but it’s worth it), Alfred helping solve the mystery, Batman, Jim Gordon, the dynamic between Batman and Jim Gordon, Riddler, Catwoman actually mattering and having a good dynamic/romance with Batman, the balancing of multiple Gotham rogues, the humor that I didn’t expect it to have (especially from the Penguin). This Batman needs a Robin yesterday. This movie is probably my favorite movie on the list. I want to put emphasis on the set design/how Gotham looks. I recently started watch Gotham (the tv show) and I was so disappointed that Gotham didn’t look any different from a standard east coast city. But this Gotham looks like Gotham. This Gotham looks like a place you’d only live in if the rent was 25¢ a month or you couldn’t afford to move out. This Gotham looks like a city that would have some guy dressed as bat beating up criminals.
7 - Deadpool 3: Deadpool and Wolverine - I was weighing between including this or the live action One Piece and just decided to pick the one I had more to say about. This is the first movie to genuinely and consistently make me laugh in a while. The plot’s kind of meh; it’s a fun allegory for the Fox X-Men series but it wasn’t especially investing and the villains were entertaining but nothing to write home about. What truly makes this movie worth the watch is Deadpool, Wolverine, and their dynamic and development with one another. The development both of their characters got actually caught me off guard since, once again, this is a movie I went in mostly blind to. All I really knew about the Deadpool films were the humor and in my experience, comedies (especially dark comedies) tend to be afraid of getting too serious. But this movie actually balanced the comedy with the serious moments of development without either feeling too jarring or forced.
Talking about my favorite characters will be a lot quicker because I don’t actually have consistent favorite characters. My favorite characters change all the time because I have a love-hate relationship with many of my all time favorites and they shift depending on what I’ve been watching/reading/thinking about most recently. It doesn’t help that the qualifications for being on my list of favorites are: I’m not actively frustrated with their character writing and I find them entertaining.
If I had to say what my top 10, in no particular order, are right now, I’d list: Pein from Naruto, Sasori from Naruto, Joker from the animated Under the Red Hood movie, Kimihiro Watanuki from xxxHolic, Sam Wilson from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, MaoMao from The Apothecary Diaries, Wade Wilson from the two Deadpool movies I’ve seen (the first and third), Robin from Teen Titans (the animated show), Katherine Howard from Six, and Hobie Brown from Across the Spiderverse.

I saw a post of yours that hypothetically combined Batman’s Robins with Six: The Musical and that you do fanfic reviews. So. Here. 12k words of script fic be upon ye. It’s all mine! No beta, we die like… well… you know.
WHOO OKAY
i was genuinely so excited upon receiving this in my inbox, haha. So, starting off! Robins: The Musical is what the above description from @inamindfarfaraway's ask says, this fic is a whole script based from SIX the musical, while still being incredibly original. Let's dive in, shall we?
I listened to the whole thing with the SIX album in the background, matching each song with the lyrics and good Lord I was absolutely enthralled with how each rewritten lyric matched up with the given song. Some required a backtrack so that i could say the new lyric out loud to fit it better with the song, but that was to be expected and once I figured out, it was myself and my dog having an impromptu karaoke session with these new lyrics. The thing that I do have to mention is that while the Robins are in chronological order, the songs are not. For example, Dick has No Way, but Jason's song directly after is a re-imagining of All You Wanna Do. In all fairness, the way the lyrics were written (the fighting noises were a delight to act out instead of the 'mwah, ah,') matched up with Jason's character well. It's more of a personal peeve that the songs weren't in order, despite everything matching up.
Favorite lines and random little tidbits:
Damian's entire version of Sorry Not Sorry. Heart-wrenching. The transition from no remorse to regretting everything, the internal conflict? Gorgeous.
"Since I’ve both won and led two highly eventful lives, it’s only fair that I do another song to explain Jason Todd 2: This Time, It’s Personal. This one is inspired by the moment I learned Bruce hadn’t killed the Joker to avenge me. It’s called “Wearing Red to My Funeral”. Sing along if you know the words.
Rock ballad intro.
Batman is a MASSIVE - "
3. Duke's group being the band! Wonderful little detail there.
4. Damian: I think you would fail the Turing test.
Steph: Not now, Dami.
5. Steph's entire part. I love you, Stephanie Brown.
6. DAMIAN, DESPITE NOT HAVING "ALL YOU WANNA DO" HAD HIS OWN VERSION OF THE KATHERINE HOWARD ROAST.
7. Erm. Listen, i know the entire point of the musical is competing over who's trauma is the worst, but damn, reading all of it made me do double-takes sometimes.
8. THE END NOTE: "Katherine Howard 🤝 Damian Wayne: having horrifically high body counts as minors."
9. Tim has Heart of Stone, and while that one is the only song that is pretty much the original, I don't think it leaves much room for editing. Admittedly it's one of the songs I most often skip when listening so i didn't think twice of it.
To sum up, Robins: The Musical was amazingly thought-out, keeping both the heart of the musical and the essence of the characters we love so much. This was an awesome experiance for me to read, thanks so much for sending this in! This is both found in the original ask and here, if that link didn't work.
Guidelines for sending fics in are in my pinned post, if you'd like to send someone's or your own in! Happy Reading! ~Harley

Batman and Robin and Howard Return for Summer Break
Jeffrey Brown is returning to Batman and Robin and Howard with a new middle grade graphic novel - Batman and Robin and Howard: Summer Breakdown.
"Summer is in session, and that means all the neighborhood patrols, soccer games, and snacks Damian and Howard can handle. But things take an unexpected turn when a new group of heroes, known as the Hero Club, approaches the boys with an unusual offer—an invitation to help unmask the corporation planning to build a recycling factory in their favorite park. Together, they hope to recruit the help of Metropolis’s favorite reporter, Lois Lane.
As if that weren’t enough, Batman has been acting strangely and disappearing for stretches of time. And there are ninjas everywhere…What could possibly be going on?" (DC Comics)
Batman and Robin and Howard: Summer Breakdown goes on sale on September 3, 2024.

Sonic the Oz-Hog Act 4/12: Knux Readux!
Knuckles the Echidna Volume 2 issue 1 AU Publication Date: 14th April 1997 Price: $2.70

Spinoffs. No self-respecting media can live with them. No self-aggrandising media can live without them. And for those of us who lived through the space year that was 1997, corporations were chomping at the bit for a slice of those sweet spinoff dollarydoos.
Best place to start and witness such influence would be, arguably, the cinema. After Baz Luhrmann's blockbuster remake Romeo + Juliet spent weeks atop the box office, the majority of March was a bitter struggle between Wes Craven's thriller Scream and Cameron Crowe's football drama Jerry Maguire. A fascinating if ultimately pointless grudge match between two distinct genres. For all their efforts, neither claimed victory when by month's end, a film 20 years their senior blasted both off the map. The Star Wars Special Editions had arrived.
The promotion (and merchandise deals) was huge. A New Hope proved an instant hit, swiftly followed on 10th April by The Empire Strikes Back. Everything old was new again, and the re-hits just kept coming. Audiences pounded the pavements, eager to revisit Jurassic Park when its sequel The Lost World saw release on 29th May (only a week after its US premiere, a then-impressive feat). Superhero buffs ignored the winter freeze to watch Batman and Robin on 26th June, a film often lauded yet pulled respectable numbers and local reviews at the time.
Speaking of space, following a successful campaign through latter 1996, the Oddbodz were back. Smith's Chips and Glow Zone launched their second series of 61 collectable glow-in-the-dark cards featuring a myriad of wacky, wicked and occasionally controversial space-themed characters. If gross-out humour wasn't your speed, ripping into packs of Thins, Ruffles, Cheetos or Doritos chips instead offered adventures in a galaxy far far away with official Star Wars 3D Magic Motion and Techno Tazos.
After the toyline's initial launch in January, Beast Wars had successfully put Transformers back on the map, though kids would have to wait at least three more months to see their favourite characters in animated action. To Channel 7's credit, they at least gave the program a decent timeslot. More than can be said for Channel 9's decision that April to broadcast the all-new Star Trek: Voyager season 2 and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 4 at the ghastly time of 11pm weeknights.
In spite of the former losing 30 minutes off its timeslot, the rivalry between weekday morning children's entertainment continued between Agro's Cartoon Connection and Cheez TV. Both were banking on the spinoff craze, and viewers waking up 14th April could choose between the premiere of Power Rangers Zeo episode 'Oily to Bed, Oily to Rise', or the premiere of Earthworm Jim episode 'Darwin's Nightmare'. For the musically inclined, American rockers No Doubt had enjoyed 8 weeks atop the music charts with the third single on their third album, 'Don't Speak'. At least until April saw them bumped off by Aussie pop prodigy Savage Garden and their third single 'Truly Madly Deeply'.
But of all the spinoffs to arise and bedazzle locals, after three years of development and an exclusive preview party the night prior, SEGA World Sydney opened its doors at 4pm on Saturday 22nd March 1997. Touted in print and on TV as "Australia's Largest Indoor Theme Park!", it offered hours of unrivalled entertainment and programs for Sydneysiders and visitors alike. Anyone who could afford its hefty entry fee lost themselves in all the games and rides they could handle (except Mortal Kombat, which was pulled last-minute). An escape into pixilated fantasy guaranteed to forget their real-world troubles for several hours. Mundane adult things like Victoria and Western Australia's brief yet brutal summer bushfire seasons where 3 lives and some 59 homes were lost. Or how after one year into the top job, captain conservative John Howard faced international anger over comments at the United Nations General Assembly, and local anger over casual dismissing threats by extreme right-wing rival Pauline Hanson's One Nation party.
Be it stage shows, costumed cameos and all types of merchandise featuring their antics, fans of Sonic, Tails, Sally and Robotnik were in paradise. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said for a fifth member of the cast. For someone who enjoyed strong popularity and a species originating right there, SEGA World put the bare minimum effort into giving Knuckles the Echidna his own time to shine. A remarkable oversight undoubtedly leaving young fans wondering where that embattled echidna was hiding. As luck would soon have it, they needn't look far.
Nestled comfortably among the shelves between Sonic issues 45 and 46 came Knuckles: The Dark Legion. Sales had proven strong enough (or at least stronger than Tails and Sally's comics) to warrant the development of a second miniseries. Exciting in its own right, only amplified when exclusively announced through AOL in January 1997 it would evolve to a fully-fledged ongoing spinoff. No longer was trotting off to the newsagents exclusively a Friday end-of-month treat. Knuckles' arrival meant a mandatory Monday mid-month booster for us deprived of Mobian adventures.
Over the course of its 32 issue run, Knuckles the Echidna was, much like Endgame two months later, once praised as a pinnacle of Archie Sonic. Fans adored the series, giving ol' Rad Red his own unique mythos and adventures. While Sonic naffed around aimlessly in a post-Robotnik world, we saw Knuckles as the cool, 'mature' comic. He had stakes. He had drama. Quite a turnaround after the heavy criticism its writer took in late 1996 over Sally's leaked demise. Within months he was described as "a kewl writer!", or "one of the ONLY "good" and "balanced" writers Archie has", or how they're "so much better then sonic comics now its not funny." with "all the good villains and family members." Fans swarmed en mass to his WWWBoard, creating their own stories, characters and entire websites tied to the Brotherhood and Dark Legion. Not everyone agreed on the book's mission statement "Why does everybody liek it so much? All it is really is a bunch of Penders' characters running around with slight appearacnes by Chaotix and occasionally knuckles himself.", but it made a lot of other people happy. Enough for both The Dark Legion and Lost Paradise reissued as 'back catalogue' orders to selected comic book stores in late 2004.
And just like Endgame, those nostalgic memories have since dissipated when adults reflected on his tales with matured, scrutinous eyes. We grow. We learn. We reevaluate on what was once adored as adolescents, realising perhaps those good times weren't all that good. Maybe the series and characters were fine in concept but lacked competent execution. Maybe our childish expectations meant they were never good to begin with and the critics were right all along.
The youthful, creative glory days from the late-90's to mid-2000's of Knuckles of an Echidna, Kragok Comics, Echidna Gals, Dark Legion HQ, Echidnapolis, Knux Redux, Tisha-Li's Dark Legion Camp, Kensuke Aida's Julie-Su Shrine, Echidnoyle, Shattered Moonlight, Knuckles 9000, Kiri Megami's Chaotix Hideout, Darkest Mysteries, and of course True Red's mighty Knuckles Haven have long passed.
It's from learning said past our futures are forged, but do any of these characters have a future? Do they even deserve a future?
Or maybe it's just best they're all forever banished to the Twilight Zone of cultural irrelevance.
Next Time: For years I said it wouldn't be done. Yet promises, like the hearts and cheekbones of fictitious rodents, were made to be broken. Will May's hedgie rectrospect-y truly be worthy of such hate? Or have revisionists painted a far worse picture over the past two decades?

Talking about your shared interests with nerotypical non-chronicly online people is so weird
Cuz like I'm chill with letting them guide the conversation but if we're gonna talk about new superhero movies coming out wdym I shouldn't go on a 20 minute rant about the robin stuff that just got announced
wdym it's not socially acceptable to have an absurdity large amount of funfacts about Richard Grayson and Jason Peter Todd floating around in my brain while also having not watched The Batman?? (It's on the list don't come for me)
Wdym I'm not supposed to passionately talk about how Steve remakeing a whole life for himself in a time that is no longer familiar to him knowing what bucky is going through knowing that hydra is growing up in the ssr and knowing that Howard will died at the hands of his best friend and being unable to say anything about it because it could fuck up the timeline more than he already is by simply being there for a chick he gave a goodbye kiss to once doesn't make any goddamn sense. (yes he loved her back in 1943 and if he hadn't gone in the ice I'm sure they would absolutely have gotten together and I fucking love Peggy agent Carter is one of if not my favorite mcu show girly is a fucking badass and we love her for it this isn't a "stucky is better fuck Peggy for getting in the way if my ship" take because those takes are frankly bs but is actually a legitimate gripe i have with the writing)
Wdym i shouldn't send you screenshots from comic panels that i think are silly and kinda relevant to our conversation while your still talking?
Wdym i can't randomly show you the page of robin hanging a man with the ropes he tied him up with not even 30 minutes ago that they've gotta make expressly clear that no an 11 year old Dick Grayson did not just kill a man, ignore that blood puddle- he's just that skilled the dude could hang there for hours without risk of strangulation (that's a nearly direct quote btw) anyway look at Batman smiling and calling him a good solider as he watches on pretending to have not found robin yet
Wdym that's weird and excessive? We just finished watching Thor Love and Thunder- you just said you watched Deadpool and wolverine 3 times!
I will never understand normal people
#how do communication#chat what is the normal amount of insane to be about superheros?#asking for a friend#thank you for coming to my ted talk

Shitty Superhero Tournament Rules and Bracket
Finally, ¡the tournament is about to begin! The bracket will be posted under the cut, but first let’s get some clarifications and rules out of the way:
The movies here have been selected (with two exceptions*) based on their Rotten Tomatoes movie scores and do not reflect my opinion of their quality. The tournament will be divided into six rounds.
Each movie will come with a quick summary of some of its highlights (or lowlights, depending on your point of view) but feel free to create and submit your own propaganda.
You may vote in any way you want, rooting for whatever gives you the most entertainment in a train wreck sort of way, the movie that’s the most incompetently made, a film you feel is actually really good, or however you want to interpret what the winner of a Shitty Superhero Movie Tournament entails.
Personal attacks/bigoted comments and propaganda WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. If you are here looking for an excuse to be racist/sexist/homophobic/anti-semitic/body-shaming/a dick to people trying to collect a paycheck under the corporate grindstone, fuck off. Just because these movies may be shitty doesn’t mean you should be.
If I make a factual error, feel free to correct me on it. Reblogs are encourage, ofc.
¡Have fun and be kind to each other!

-Warner Bros and 42 Entertainment made an Alternate Reality Game
-websites like WhySoSerious.com, IBelieveInHarveyDent.com, and GothamPolice.com offered interactive content where fans could sign up as citizens of Gotham and receive missions
-Fans were asked to decode cryptic websites, solve riddles, and piece together content that overtime revealed more about the film
-Fans also participated in scavenger hunts where Joker henchmen led people to hidden locations, people were given instructions to dress as the Joker, take photos, and do different errands
-At one point, fans were told to pick up a cake called “Robin Banks”, inside the cakes were working burner phones, embedded in fake explosives, people who received them would get phone calls/texts with further instructions/information like Joker recordings and trailers
-At the 2007 Comic-Con in San Diego, fans found Jokerized dollar bills and a plane in the sky with a phone number, which again was a recruitment number for the Joker and led people on a scavenger hunt
-Marketed outside in big cities on billboards
-Marketed through tv ads across major networks
