In love with the idea of captain marvel being Billy's imaginary friend. Like, it'd be so easy. Early depictions had them as almost fully separate people sometimes, like one soul with two minds, rather than just two filters like we mostly see now.

But imagine a Billy down on his luck, hurt and hiding from police and criminals alike, daydreaming the hours away as children do, taking inspiration from all the superheroes rising to fame, making little stories to play out his dreams of saving the world with a generic action doll he found while dumpster diving once. Most of the paint's rubbed off.

Red's his favourite colour, his comfiest jumper is a bright ruby even after all the grime and washes. Gold, too, it's shiny and warmer than silver! A hero cape is a must, big and eye catching! And he can fly, of course, like superman, and in his daydreams, when he's sore and frustrated after a long day's grind, his superhero is smart enough and knows all the right words to get the bullies to stop without resorting to fighting.

His superhero fantasy is one he spends a lot of time on, the first one he goes for when struggling to sleep at night, and he can picture it so clearly. Captain marvel is big and bright and kind, strong enough to lift the boxes for the old lady up the road who's moving all by himself, fast enough to catch Jamie who fell out of the tree on Saturday and broke his leg and couldn't come to class for weeks. He appears at the entrance to alleys when Billy is cornered, he steps up behind to cover for him when he gets caught shoplifting, he sits at the bus stop with him when it's pouring rain and the right bus doesn't seem to be coming.

And then the wizard comes, or rather whisks him away, and like a magician from a fairytale breathes life into his imaginary friend until Billy feels thrice his size and a million times more invincible.

From then on, captain marvel is a real hero, just like Billy is a real boy, and as one they save the whole city, and then the whole world, and get cats down from trees and help Mrs Victoria move the last of her boxes and she gives them a pinch in the cheek and cookies for the road and sometimes it hurts but it's so much better than he imagined.

And another thing about Rogue x Magneto (feels like the old man screaming to the skies)! Another reason why, in the past few years, they’ve grown on me is their personalities dynamic. Besides how mature they are when they acknowledge one another, they kinda just balance each other so well.

Rogue is an atom bomb. She knows what's missing, but she never lets her pain and her craving for a normal life take her down. She knows she has one life and nothing can stop her from living it, even if she has to punch her way to happiness. Magneto is solemn, always burdened by his past, his pain, his ideals. There isn't a single part of him that exists just for himself. He carries the weight of responsibility, both as a survivor and as a powerful mutant whose abilities are channeled either towards destruction or creation.

And in the face of all of that Rogue is a constant reminder to live. She doesn’t tell him how to do it, doesn’t preach it or show him. She just does it, every day. And when it's in his presence it’s just impossible for him not to feel it. We see that in the comics. We see it in the unconditional, open love he has for her. We see it in the way he is pursuing her or the reasoning behind him pushing her away. We see it even when they're arguing, even when they're saying goodbye, in the way he values her happiness outside of himself. I adore how utterly in love he is with her because her sheer will to feel alive is magnetic (pun intended). On her end, in all of the arcs/stories where they are around each other, it feels like Rogue is empowered to be herself, to own her opinions and thoughts. She actually gets the space to own her mistakes, most importantly, in a way that is not syphoned through his presence in her life (which hurts my romy heart because it’s one of the biggest flaws in their relationship - or at least the way it’s been written and rewritten).

Rogue is volatile and full of life. Magneto is grounded by his troubles and responsibilities, real or self-imposed.

He says ‘the world is bigger than any one of us.’ And she answers ‘the world is each and every one of us’. And that’s that.

niche but a concept i'm fond of: once miguel makes a more concerted effort to connect with his mother's heritage (which includes clumsily learning spanish through grueling hours flipping through children's books), he also makes a spur-of-the-moment decision to start picking up cantonese for xina, too. it would mirror miguel's evidently intense want to connect with her when they were children—and notably, the most common way for chinese speakers to say goodbye is 再见, which transliterates to "see you again." most other ways to say goodbye are variations on the same theme: 一会见 (see you later) and 再联系 (stay in touch), for example, are popular. the sentiment is such a domineering feature in how goodbyes are said to the point that the most frequent way someone might avoid expressing the intention to see a person again is to quite literally say bye-bye in full english.

and that suits the both of them, to start using it when they part ways. for these two, goodbye always means they'll see each other again, one way or another.

I think the comics should synergise a tiny little bit with the movies in regard to High Evoloutionary and Rocket being enemies. Not that I think it should be exactly like the messed up abusive creator/creation dynamic of the film (lord knows Rocket’s comic backstory is enough of an inconsistent mess already), but instead more like “this powerful, 1000+ IQ smug intellectual man who basically sees himself as/is pretty much a god-like being, gets shaken to his core/royalty pissed off when he’s out done intellectually by a fucking 3-ft tall furry abomination”

In the 2014 Ms Marvel run they showed Kamala writing fanfic about superheroes presumably to make her relatable to the target audience of teen girls who also wrote fanfic about Marvel characters. But Kamala LIVES in the Marvel universe where those are just real people. So we have to imagine that Kamala got into some very tedious RPF discourse on the 616 equivalent of Tumblr

Persephone captain marvel au. Hear me out.

Associated with duality, reincarnation, resurrection, childhood innocence (and it getting ripped away by adults), and her 'counterpart' Kore, which is her in her returning aspect of spring, youthfulness, new life... Come on. Is that not the closest thing to Billy you've ever seen in ancient Greece? Where he gets his powers?

It all starts with Teth Adam, and his devastation at the death of his son. He finds the old paths, breaks them open, and storms down into the underworld to demand him back. His is not a new story.

But where Persephone might ordinarily be inclined to ease her husband's scorn, give the troubled mourner a chance, she is speaking to the champion of magic, the world's mightiest mortal. The chance of success is too high. The challenge would not be enough. The death was too high profile and would risk too many attempting to follow in his footsteps. The man is too unstable, too powerful, too close to the heart of magic for it to be safe - for any of him - to grant his wish and risk his false hope.

They deny him.

Enraged, implacable, Teth Adam lashes out. The battle is long and drawn out, neither side tiring even as both weaken, but Persephone, in either form, is not one of war, and she is felled as her curses shatter, her furies tossed aside like dolls. The sound of Hades' scream as Adam's surprise leaves him open flattens the rubble of their throne room.

The wounded champion escapes, hounded by cerberus and skeletons instead of his son's shade, as her husband crashes to his knees beside her. She has not a mortal soul, and thus will be going where even Death cannot reach.

But Adam killed the goddess of reincarnation, and Billy has odd dreams. He's pretty sure he needs to ease up on the stress. He's restless in winter and distracted in summer, he can sleep outside in howling storms as long as he's tucked snug in the boughs of a tree, he's had the luck of never tasting a rotten fruit. Sometimes it feels like there's ghosts in his hideouts and the kids at school try and bribe him to curse their enemies.

When he chosen to be Captain Marvel the wizard chokes on his own speech when the smoke clears. They stare at each other.

"Well," says Persephone, "that was unexpected. Hullo."

"Hello," the wizard replies, "I was under the impression..."

"I don't think the laws of interference quite apply until I'm immortal again," he says.

The wizard's relief is palpable. It's understandable, he looks ready to keel over from old age. "Can I ask...?" he gestures at the new body. It takes a second to understand.

"Oh, I'm a boy now. For a while."

And that's that.

Until green lantern is killed in battle.

Just watched the first X-Men movie for the first time. Am in a marathon to watch all of them in the next four days. Some of which I have watched. But first, lemme pitch to you: Earth-616 Champions dimension crash-landing in the XCU.

Bc I get the profound feeling that Scott Summers from the movie has never experienced paintball, karaoke, or a gaggle of chaotic globetrotting kid heroes. And putting him next to a teenage version of himself who has thrived on all of those things would be EXTREMELY funny.

Add onto the fact that most of the others don't understand that this is alternate universe action going on and just assume that this was what Scott was like as a kid while he vehemently denies it.
