HOW TO STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS
Tumblr media
Honestly, most of the comparing that we do stems from social media, so it’s important that the time that we spend on social media is mindful.
However, in order to stop, I need you to do some things for me <3
Declutter and cleanse your social media accounts. This means unfollowing anyone and everyone who doesn’t make you feel or want to act like your best self and curating your feeds(use the not interested button!)
You have two options, either go social media free for how long you deem necessary or limit your time on social media to less than 2 hours~ the second option is more for people who have to work on social networks.
Remind yourself that social media is not a reliable outlook of people’s lives, and that many companies advertise their products to make you want to compare yourself to someone in order for you to make a purchase.
Catch yourself when you start to compare, because most of the time we do it subconsciously but it affects us on a conscious level.
Instead of comparing yourself to someone, compliment forwarded or in your mind, e.g. she’s prettier than me -> she’s so pretty. Not only do you stop comparing yourself, but if you’re internally kind to others, your mind will soon have that same energy towards you.
Be realistic. Stop comparing yourself to people who’ve had years of experience, have genetics that help them, or have worked really hard to get to their level e.g celebrities, pro athletes, models etc. This also can apply to your peers, you never know how hard they’ve worked.
Know which areas you tend to compare yourself to others. Work, academics, appearance, lifestyle etc. Usually, this is a call for us to grow.
Start comparing yourself to the better version of yourself. They are the only person you should compare yourself to.

I often find myself careful with words,
Letting the weight of them roll over my tongue
And knock against my teeth
Before letting them spill.
Showering those around me
In compliments barely worthy of their ears,
Supporting endeavors that seem
To always require more blood-
Anything to let them know they are more
Than this.
How often I find myself on the silent side of things;
How lonely it is.
I wonder what it's like to be told
Gosh, you are beautiful,
Because they tasted the words
And found them worth speaking,
Because it overtook them
And demanded to be said-
There are those who are loved,
Almost effortlessly.
Almost without choice.
And then there's the rest.
x

CHAINSAW MAN SPOILERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I read Yogen no Nayuta while not very far in the csm manga, but I don’t know how I never pieced together that he updated Nayuta to become the next control devil. Or I guess she’s always been like Nayuta but was raised by the government and didn’t get any love, so she turned out different. I know it was probably obvious to other people considering they have the same name, but I only just realized this today.

Please don’t compare yourself to other writers, It’s pointless.
Self-comparison is something rooted in human evolution. We compare, because we like to know our place in society, or as it is in this case, our level of ability.
We read about a new writer all the while thinking ‘How does he do this?’ and ‘Will I ever reach this level?’
These are fair questions to ask, and they can lead to meaningful introspection, to positive growth. However, we tend to dwell on our shortcomings, the things others can do well, and the things we can't do ourselves.
But the fundamental flaw is that life is rarely black and white. This writer that you suddenly believe their writing is flawless, has had bad days. They’ve made terrible drafts and written sentences to wrench the very soul out of your body.
But do you see all that? No, because you see the final product of countless hours, days, months, and even years of hard work. You see someone who paid the price of time, effort, and severe patience, more than you can even imagine.
To compare is to degrade, not only the author's efforts but also your own. You might have talent, but a line of questions that starts with what ifs could be the end of it.
By comparing, you're not only spitting on the sacrifices they've made but undermining the potential to sacrifice something for the art, yourself.
And the worst crime is forgetting that two authors are as incomparable as Apples and Pears. They might look alike, both on the exterior and the interior, but in taste and texture, they couldn’t be more incomparable.
When you find yourself dwelling on, and comparing yourself to another author, remember that no one can offer what you can. No one can top your talent and no one can reach your level because there is no one like you.
Remember that your writing is one of a kind.

“It’s ok not to be ranked first, second or even third. Compare yourself not with others but with the old you. Like yourself for making an honest effort. And continue to have faith in yourself.”

@girlfailurefelix you need to help me :/
I know that in mlb there's Nathaniel who draws, specifically comics, but I forgot the name of the other boy that Marinette teamed him up with.
Either way, Nathaniel draws comics and the other boy writes stories and it made me compare them to Gregory and Tony.
We have an artist and a writer. Twice.

Taking another break from the nerdy posts to touch on something I've really been struggling with for a while. Maybe you are, too. So let's unpack the comparison trap.
