Stone Ocean isn’t just my favorite Jojo part but it’s my favorite piece of media. I think a big reason for that is because, to me at least, a lot of the themes and messages of the story feel inherently queer/trans coded. The biggest themes of the story are about memories, and what our pasts mean to us, how they shape us. We see how Jolyne and the others have pasts that make them judged, outsiders to society, traumatized. However, they all become more than what they once were and find their true selves. FF specifically embodies this so well. They literally find a new body that fits them better, making them happier. The life and body they were living in before was dull, near-meaningless and subject to the whim of other people. They express their authentic self, but have to move in caution because of that, and value their bodily autonomy over everything else.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, however, we have Pucci. In him, we see what refusing to critically assess yourself and reshape your ideas does, especially when religion is brought into the mix. His entire goal of wanting to have everybody’s fate known and set in stone isn’t him working past his trauma, it’s him literally being consumed by it. He claims to have good intentions, and genuinely does believe that. But because he isn’t able to face his fears head on, he winds down a dark path that leads him to become the opposite of what he wants was, so engulfed by his own bubble that he can’t see how hypocritical he’s become.

Probably wasn’t intended- (maybe?? since some people claim that shonen made Araki change Anasui from being a female, but who knows)- but this just mirrors being queer so well to me. The process of literally rebuilding yourself, while still honoring what value you can pull from your past. Meanwhile, people all around you try to frame you, spread lies and force their beliefs and rigid viewpoints on you. I love you Stone Ocean 🌊 💿 🦋

So what were uncle sam’s feeling when Lex Luther became president? What was that moment like for him?

US: I remember my exact thought on the second the election was called for him. Me: And what was that? I apologize I was only born about 4 months after the man took office and wasn't conscious through his entire presidency US: If only we'd all been so lucky. I remember thinking "things are gonna be harder for a while before the fall." Me: Before the fall? US: That's what I said out loud, because I knew there would be one. Me: Very optimistic of you. Many of his detractors thought it would be the end of American democracy, swept on a wave of a populist bigotry. US: He wasn't the first populist bigot that got people to listen to his claptrap and heaven help me he won't be the last. I was here with my boots in the dirt when people thought Andrew Jackson would be the death knell. I was here to watch them march Jefferson Davis out of Richmond. I listened to Ronny Reagan and his little friends giggle themselves sick as people across the nation got sick and died so they could sit around feeling justified. Me: But each of those administrations did such awful things, to so many people. Things we're still dealing with now. US: You're right. And it never should have happened, any of it. Each one of them left scars on me that I'll be nursing until I fade away. And yet here we are, and they've all gone now, the arrow of history bent slowly toward justice by a million hands and the sound of scraping steel. Me: You really believed we'd get through it? You: I KNEW it, from the whiskers on my chin to the marrow in my bones I knew it. That eventually his ego would swell to bursting and he'd tumble down to the spike trap he had set up for others. He broke things, important things, and he hurt people along the way. I won't shrug and say "it wasn't so bad" Me: But? US: But I will say this. He was not the first, and every one before him has taught us 100 lessons to throw in front of him like a barricade. Everything he tried was neutered and blunted by the checks and balances of the system, or the hammer of the law, or the voices of the people. And eventually the wheels chewed him up and spat him out. Me: And what did you do in the meantime? US: Same thing I'd always done. Same thing I'll always do. I protected the people in my reach. And I stood up to make myself counted. I encouraged and protected those who found themselves targeted. I survived and helped others to do the same despite it all. Me: And it worked? US: I'm here aren't I?

I designed this recently to deal with everything happening right now. I've often heard other queer people citing being the "cockroach mother fuckers", members of the total community who are left, after surviving cruelty and violence. The queer cockroach is intended to be a badge of honor. Bigots can say we're new aberrations to the natural way of things, but we know the truth. They can be disgusted by us, despise us, and try like hell to exterminate us, but we will always exist.

Hi sorry for asking this really heavy question but I just saw some news about new policies in the states about trans folks and I want your opinion, should I get HRT? I want to transition but I don't want to endanger myself. Is there a safe heaven anywhere? Do I need to think about moving? I... Just don't know what to do and I have no one to talk to about this... Redneck hillbilly old world thinking fam an all.

Please also don’t worry about asking me anything heavy, I want to do my best to answer things and getting an uncomfortable question is a good thing (for me, your mileage may vary).  I’m either going to learn what my boundaries are, or I’m going to consider something that I hadn’t before and I’ll grow as a person.

Regarding your question, I need to say for the record that I am not a doctor, I am not a therapist, I am not a politician, and I don’t know the particulars of any individual’s situation other than my own.

I really don’t know the answer for you. 

I don’t know what’s going to happen, or when.  I don’t know how the folks you live/work/go to school with are going to react. 

I’m an incredibly lucky person.  I live in an area of the USA that is left leaning, I have people in my life who have no issue with whether or not someone is trans, but perhaps most importantly, I have some amount of stability.

As far as the tumblr demographic goes, I’m pretty old at 36.  There’s a life that my wife and I have built together and we’re doing ok.  Part of the reason I was finally ready to take this leap of transitioning and coming out was because I had my ducks in a row in other aspects of my life.

Some folks can only handle so much at a time, I am one of them.  Actively dealing with my gender dysphoria was something that I didn’t have the bandwidth for until recently. 

Granted, that stability we’ve cultivated is now being threatened, so I suddenly might be overwhelmed with new issues.  But right now, at this exact moment, I’m safe.

I hope that remains the case, but I’m fearful that it won’t.

Regarding whether or not you should transition right now, the only answer that I can provide is that we all need to prioritize our safety.

Be safe, and I hope we’re all here to keep fighting tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that.

If you’re feeling down because the people who want you dead have won, why would you then turn around and side with them, surrendering your life to their cause?

The phrase “existence is resistance” is not without meaning. It’s overused, sure, but it isn’t some phrase that’s just supposed be “wow how radical.” It means exactly what it says. You hate these people and anyone who thinks like them. So why would you ever think like them and believe that the world is better off without you in it?

You know they’re wrong when they think it, so what’s it gonna take for you to realize that you’re wrong when you think it too?
