Does 'Common Sense' Actually Exist?
The Conversation That Started It All A few nights ago, I found myself on the phone with a good friend discussing something entirely unrelated when he casually dropped the phrase, “Well, it’s just common sense.” That simple remark derailed our entire conversation for the next 30 minutes. I asked him to define what he meant by “common sense.” He couldn’t. Not really. He gave some vague examples,…

So I thought Dr. Steven Novella might be made up by Writeblr, but a casual search indicates he is, in fact, a Yale neurologist who just happens to be named that.

New Moon au where Bella leaves and Edward stays… even though Bella’s still the one getting dumped
Edward breaks up with her in the woods and skedaddles, same as canon. But instead of curling up in the woods, Bella's mind kinda snaps and she decides she, too, is leaving.
She tries to follow Edward, same as she does in canon, and just... keeps going. Maybe she tries to track the Cullens down at first, because even if they can run stupid fast, they do settle down for years at a time. They're not actually moving targets. After however long she realizes the futility because she has so little to go on and they're very good at disappearing when need be (and mega rich enough to move to some remote chalet in Norway or whathaveyou).
Ironically, Bella couldn't convince Edward to stay with her words, but her leaving has the whole family essentially stuck there. When she decided to not go home, Alice got visions of search parties, missing posters and tv coverage, and a lot of suspicion on her boyfriend and his strange, reclusive family. To minimize the scrutiny, the Cullens returned to Forks. Edward has to pretend that he never tried to leave her (disappearance after a break-up means more suspicion of foul play), but he doesn't need to pretend he's appropriately aggrieved over Bella's disappearance.
Eventually, Bella gives up on doesn't so much give up on her search for the Cullens as she lets herself go numb and embraces the anonymity of leaving her life and identity behind. She pulls a Buffy Summers and gets a job as a waitress under a false name at a diner so generic that Alice can't pinpoint where the hell it is from her visions. In fact, Bella's derealization and disassociation are so thorough that she becomes a blank spot in Alice's sight altogether. Sam's participation in the search parties messes with her scent trail in the woods. Tracking Bella becomes just about impossible.
Edward knows she's smart and resourceful, but as far as anyone can tell she never came back for her wallet and truck, never packed a bag... if she didn't die within days from exposure or a bear, she's living a very hard life in a big dangerous world, all on her own. And it's not like her to not call and tell her parents that she's okay, at least.
So yes, Edward Anthony "Paranoia" Masen Cullen is fully convinced she's dead, and fucking off to Volterra about it will bring too much scrutiny to his family, so he can't bring himself to do it. He drops out of Forks for "homeschooling" because he simply cannot do high school anymore (he doesn't know which thoughts are more agonizing: those believing he killed her himself [he agrees with them, more or less], or pity over his grief). Occasionally he'll parade himself around town just to be seen, but otherwise he curls up in the woods. <Possibility.mp3>
I can't really decide where it goes from there:
-Maybe Bella eventually comes back of her own volition. A little hardened, better-traveled, she's learned a lot. Most importantly, she's learned that even at her lowest, she can still get by on her own. When Edward catches wind of it (literally, he catches her scent when he's out for his daily mope around the woods behind the Swan house) he wonders if a dead man can have a heart attack
-Once Bella has healed enough, Alice can see her again and manages to piece together where she is. The right thing to do would be to tip Charlie off, but she's an adult and doesn't appear to be in danger, so do they respect her apparent choice to disappear? Enough time has passed that Edward can leave Forks to track her down, but can he bring himself to ruin the little bit of peace she's carved out for herself once he finds her? (spoiler: he can't resist, but he just watches her for a while at first, and he's not as sneaky as he thinks, so she thinks she's just hallucinating him)
-???? help

Time loops and the abstraction of one's self-image
#i'd like to explain this one a bit so bear with me here#because i particularly want to explore the psychological effects of a time loop#and (gestures at a buncha worldbuilding stuff) because of the nature of time loops they're more like living parasites#feeding on their host until they either have a moment of character growth and change enough to break the loop#or their mental and cognitive processes decline until they can no longer be defined as human n the loop runs out of fuel#and alongside that comes a process of abstraction where the way you perceive yourself and your environment#basically gets 'simplified' into whatever aspects you usually remember most vividly as the loop iterates#so yeah. anyways i wanna make a lil comic abt this eventually to elaborate on it n visualize it#in the meantime enjoy my boy :3#original#jinan#intermission#my art#jinn

Despite trying to hide the fact that he has emotions, Logan was still quite clearly pleased when Virgil was revealed once he was calmed down from his panic, after years of being surrounded by extroverts it was nice to be able to finally interact with another introvert, even if his main function (paranoid and irrational thoughts and actions) seems to directly oppose him
#sanders sides#white lies au#paranoia!virgil#analogical#virgil sanders#logan sanders#I'm currently doodling this au's version of their my negative thinking debate#instead of it being scenarios thomas throws it it's logan helping virgil break down his thought processes to see his cognitive distortions#at the end virgil is like ''well when you put it like that it seems so obvious... ugh. I'm such a moron''#and logan looks at him softly and just says ''falsehood''#i think that the debate would happen not long after virgil's reveal#because being thrust into the videos and seeing the light sides and thomas puts him in overdrive

What if one day, Alan came home early, insisted that Chosen would stay to dinner, and they have big family dinner together? And everything so surreal for Chosen, so when they come back home, Dark can't stop asking Cho why they look so stunned.
god yeah-- i don't think he'd insist on chosen staying personally but there's no way SC doesn't beg them to stay--
#tommy's foolery#he's just like. 'only if you want to hahh please don't force yourself to be around me'#but meanwhile sc is in the corner. with those Big Ol Eyes#they're too cute how is chosen supposed to refuse their little baby sibling like that!!!!!!!#<- oh man actually imagine if that's where they finally start processing that yeah actually sc is their little sibling huh.#and alan is treating them nice enough that it just causes some cognitive dissonance there........#idk man!!! 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥#tommy's stickmen tag#tommy's aus#tommy's stick!alan#selkie sticks au#i don't think alan would be comfortable with forcing anything on chosen but SC doesn't exactly get the Implications here#they're just a littol baby!!!! they want their friend here for dinner!!!#esp if sc ever hears chosen complain about there not being food back home. bc there's no way that dark and chosen eat on a healthy schedule#chosen tries to refuse but sc genuinely looks like they're about to start Fucking Bawling. they don't have a choice#just. aurrghhhhhhhhhhhh!! 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

ive talked to a lot of ppl who have taken vyvanse now and i think ik a bit more on how i need to live on it
#1) dopamine drops on lower dosages or high dosage but in the evenings feel like hell and it wont ever stop you have to just breathe#you will stop breathing well and you wont notice it so you have to remember to breathe deeply. this helps immensely for some reason#2) you will stop processing the existence of food as a consumable thing and not just an object like Table or Cardboard. you will not want to#eat anything. you have to buy meal replacement shakes. sweetness is one of the only pleasant flavours. eat protein. eat as much protein as#you can. down those meal replacament shakes. get enough for a day. try not to into calorie deficits on vyvanse.#3) your mind will be searching for cognitively complex tasks and everything else dwarfs in comparison. dont lay down. do something.#4) you have to exercise. fully exercise at the gym not a home 20 min work out. you need to push your body right now so that you can be ok#5) nothing will be as intense and vivid and beautiful and there will be a layer of seperation between you snd reality even on a lower dosage#this is fine. this is the primary price. sunlight helps and so does doing complex tasks but you cant avoid this. remind yourself that this#is a self-induced thing and its temporary and itll fade.#6) youve been ship of theseus'd into a new person and this effect only increases later into the day. any conclusion you reach about yourself#is most likely not applicable to your non-vyvanse self.#7) carry chapstick around. keep drinking water. dry mouth starts 5 minutes after taking it#8) some of your friends have a reduced range of emotion and this makes them more stable but less capable of experiencing intense joys#and sadnesses. look at them. listen to their perspective. live like them when youre on the medication.#9) music is still gorgeous#10) you will feel very hot very fast. wear layers you can take off.#11) pick up a bow and shoot. keep shooting. keep going. shoot at least 50 arrows if you can. feel the pain in your arms and your shoulders#and then keep shooting.

What is human-machine co-creativity? Let’s consider it through the lens of cognitive scientist Margaret Boden. Transformational creativity (as opposed to combinational creativity, which merely rearranges existing elements) involves the emergence of entirely new, hybridized and homogenous forms. The difference lies in creating a new epistemological quality rather than a collage of pre-existing parts. This kind of creativity becomes a breakthrough moment, especially when human and machine actions intersect within cultural production.
In other words, it clearly illustrates the innovative and non-canonical approach characteristic of live coding practices — where art meets science. Human-machine co-creativity assumes that the artistic and musical act would not reach its final form if either party acted independently. It's a genuine fusion of art and science, demonstrating their peaceful coexistence as a source of cultural productivity.
It also serves as a critique of purely utilitarian approaches in favor of thought improvisation — perhaps even an attempt to remove irrationality, while paradoxically giving rise to holistic and synthetic modes of thinking. Ultimately, live coding generates an intriguing tension between analytical and intuitive thought, allowing us to grasp the complexity of the creative act.
From my field notes, inspired by Gérard Assayag (Sciences and Technologies of Music and Sound) Ircam/CNRS Lab.

Silmarils, grief and hope.
We all know grief is a big theme and all that, and related to Tolkien's life. But. The Silmarils.
Long chaotic post about "wanting the Silmarils is related to having unprocessed grief" and "the Silmarils are hope, but Not Like That".
(I'm not sure how many there are for whom it makes a difference, but I assume it's a non-zero amount: sort of Morgoth-pov at the very end which may be emotionally intense. For convenience, it's separated with a picture. The rest is much more calm, I think. Just chaotic and may have autocorrect errors.)
Why do so many people (allegedly) want them more than it would make sense, even if they aren't cursed?
So many events on the story of those jewels are related to grief. Feanor makes them after his mother does and he cannot process his feelings properly (which is not his fault; where would he learn to process them? But it is a thing.)
Then he loses them when his father dies and really wants them back, swears the oath. Then he does and his sons swear the oath again, and of course they don't process their grief properly either.
Oh and I forgot, before that, the Valar. They lose the Trees and want them back. Interestingly, it's not Manwe (the king) who is most focused on getting the Silmarils for that, nor Varda (most associated with them), but Yavanna (sure, it was her trees, but also she's the most loss-avoiding Vala, she misses each tree that is being cut) and Tulkas (lowest emotional intelligence of all proper Valar). Again, the perceived need to get the Silmarils is where there's some unprocessed grief, and most intense in those Valar who would have the hardest time processing it.
(and Aule! He actively advocates for granite keeping it. But I'm sure the "my best Maia joined Morgoth, I'm constantly bullied, my wife doesn't like me, and I am never a jerk despite it all" guy is pretty good at processing his negative feelings.)
(Also, how the sun and moon are made? The fruit grow when Nienna cries, and it is Nienna, she is processing the grief in a proper, healthy way. And it... It solves the problem (lack of light) for which the Silmarils were "necessary". Sure, the moon and sun are lesser, not as beautiful... But there's a theme there. Namely, the third of them. 🙂 Things change. You can't fix anything important by going Ctrl+Z on it. You have to go forward, not backwards.)
The Silmarils are the feeling of hope (see: reactions to Gil-Estel, and it's very name) they are a promise that it all will be good. They are a good thing, but to an untrained eye the promise seems much more immediate, much more like something that can be done here and now.
If I only had them, all would be fine.
And they are not this, Nienna would know, I'm pretty sure Varda knew too when she blessed them (she may have not realized how others see it). They are just a reminder of something unsaid. Estel, not amdir. (It's a little funny to me how this means "looking up" but it's not for this post)
Anyway, the Silmarils. Thingol who realizes he'll lose his daughter (doesn't know how much he would lose her, but a sad marriage to a diet Man is enough, also a kid growing up can be a grief in itself. Or maybe it is because she will be mortal, maybe he suffers from what @dfwbwfbbwfbwf called "pre-traumatic stress disorder"). And a Silmaril is the only thing that could let him through the pain of losing his daughter.
And then he carries it, of course he does, if he let it go he would have to face his pain. He dies and Luthien wears the jewel, then after her death - Dior. A chain of deaths and losses and a beautiful gem.
It is too much for their half-mortal eyes, too much hope to be able to let go of it even if they had a reason.
And Maedhros starts demanding it after Unnumbered Tears (unnumbered, unprocessed, unhealed), which sure, has also a more political/reasonable explanation (he's out of other options), but also, it's a lot of grief.
And it goes into a chain of deaths.
Melian never cared about the Silmaril (she cared about it as a problem, but not about having it). Beren gave it up easily. Earendil have it to the Valar (they have it back later).
The dwarves... There are two things here. One is generational trauma of "the sindar hunted our ancestors for sport"+general racism. The other is that dwarves generally have more need of hope I think... Elves are reborn, Men are said to go somewhere beautiful and mysterious, and the Dwarves??? It's very uncertain.
And at the end it is Makalaure "singing apology songs which doesn't make me less of a murderer, just a hypocrite, but at least helps me process my traumas" Kanafinwe who throws the hope away because someone else would make a better use of it probably, and goes on to live through his darkness.
It's so hard to face your pain and start looking not only at hope for you, but at hope for the others. And sometimes what the world needs to have more hope, is you facing your pain.
I can't find a clear name for what the Silmarils are/mean in this... Something close to hope, but also something you must let go of to process your grief... It's inherently good, but can be overused... I'm sure there's something fitting, I just can't find it.
And the "Feanor will break the Silmarils" thing? For the trees? Seriously? No. He will break then because he will learn to live without them, to live with his pain. He breaks then because they aren't relevant anymore. (Who said that about fulfilled hope not being called hope anymore? My favorite "I can write more weird and more enigmatic stuff that you, but it makes waaay more actual sense than your posts anyway" guy?) He breaks them, but it's not necessary, it's just natural.
(but also tbh they do look a little like seeds so idk why not have new trees, they are kinda cool... well my perception of them looking like seeds is based mostly on "need to break" anyway... My thinking goes in atypical ways)

And there's Morgoth. Oh of course there's Morgoth. The dark Vala who couldn't (wouldn't) process his feelings even if they came with a manual. (He's an Ainu. They very likely initially came with a manual. But he thought he knew better)
He wants to steal hope and blacken it, and destroy it, right?
So... He feeds the Silmarils to Ungoliant? Tries to break them? Hides them far away?
No.
He wears them on his face, even if it hurts terribly. It hurts like dying. This is how clinging to your ego defences feels like. "the pain demands to be felt", to quote my favorite psychology YouTuber writing someone else. If you don't face it, it will still burn. If you run away from it, it will still be there. If you cling to the "I am not sad, everything is fine, it's great", it will burn your face.
But anything else would mean admitting there's a problem. Admitting that they burn would mean admitting that he was wrong. That his pain is there, and also it's not purely (not mostly tbh) others' fault, that he's not the victim in here.
What pain?
Well if you want my opinion, it's funny that it was Finwe who guarded the Silmarils. Finwë who favored his older, more temperamental, more brilliant son and made him the crown prince. Finwë who never told Feanor to sit down and cut his BS. Finwë who everyone says it's such a great father. So if everyone says that, it is rational to expect such behavior, right? It's valid to be angry about being treated in a different way? It must be. Anything else would mean that he was wrong.
It's better to burn.

Daniel Dennett (1942 - 2024)
Many of us today woke up to a world that felt a little less vibrant, a little less intellectually stimulating. Daniel Dennett, a philosopher who revolutionized our understanding of the mind, science, and consciousness, passed away yesterday. Daniel Dennett, image taken from Wikipedia For me, Dennett was a guiding light in his study field. His work, particularly his early books “Content and…

The Physics Book Misunderstood The Solar System Geometry Basics
or
or
or
Preface
In following I compare between the physics book vision about the solar system motion and the solar system facts-the comparison refutes many physics basic theories.
1st Refutation (Space Nature and Properties)
Einstein told (Space Has No Mechanical Features)- Einstein is wrong
Space has mechanical features – let's prove
Planet motion produces energy (1/2 mv^2) but where's this motion energy? Planet can NOT store its motion energy inside its body because It would raise its temperature- and no planet temperature is raised by its motion- logically- planet motion energy is stored in the space as moving waves –Means- planet motion in space is similar to a fish swimming in the sea- the fish swimming creates waves in the sea and Planet motion energy creates waves in the space- Shortly- planet motion creates waves in the space and these waves move by its planet velocity- for example- Mercury moves by (47.4 km/s) and Mercury motion energy creates waves in the space and these waves move by velocity (47.4 km/s)- I want to say- it's simple to prove the space mechanical features because planet motion energy has no place to store in except the space.
2nd Refutation (The Gravitational Waves Source)
The physics book tells (The Gravitational Waves Are Produced By The Gravitational Field)- this is wrong idea – because-
The Gravitational Waves Are Produced By Planet Motion Energy let's explain that The space is similar to the sea of water and any motion in the space produces energy and this energy is stored as waves in the space- means- any motion in the space creates waves in the space-
Planet motion produces energy (1/2 mv^2) and this energy creates waves in the space-
and these waves move by its planet velocity- means- Planets move and their motions create waves in the space and each wave moves by its planet velocity- AND the planets revolve around the sun in the same one direction for that their motions energies create waves in the space and these waves move perpendicular on the revolution direction (Toward Pluto orbit) AND in Pluto orbit these waves are unified together into one unified wave- this unified wave moves by a velocity= 205.8 km/s because The 9 planets velocities total=176 km/s but I add the Earth moon velocity (29.8 km/s) that makes the total to be 205.8 km/s – I add the moon velocity because the energy is stored finally in the moon orbit- This Unified Wave Is The Gravitational Waves –
AND- the gravitational waves are reflected three times in the solar system – from Neptune to Saturn (1st reflection) and from Uranus to Jupiter (2nd reflection) and from Venus to Mars (3rd reflection)
The scientists discovered these waves in the space and they called them (gravitational waves) supposing these waves are produced by the gravitational field but Planet motion energy analysis proves these waves must be produced by Planet motion energy- also there's No proof for the idea tells (the sun produces a gravitational field)
3rd Refutation (No Planet Moves By The Sun Gravity)
Newton told (Planet Moves By The Sun Gravity)
Newton was wrong – No Planet Moves By The Sun Gravity- Also-The Surprised Fact tells (The Sun Is A Phenomenon Created By The Planets Motions Energies)- means- the planets were found and revolving in their orbits before the sun creation and the sun is created after all planets creation and motion with long period of time!
