so had a thought earlier but i love that there’s some sense of continuity around the Beacon days spinoff material, in general if not in the specifics
like; just as an example, the Black trailer chapter of the Shirow Miwa manga ends with Blake waking up from a nightmare recollection of the event at some point following volume 1 - which, now with Ice Queendom and what Blake had to do to fight the Nightmare, and how it manifested, it makes sense that given everything that event would also be on her mind as a through-line to how she started off in volume 2
another example, i’ve already made a post about it, in the DC comics, Yang has been reading and discussing books Blake has recommended to her, as well as Blake enjoying activities with Yang, and we see in the finale of Ice Queendom her giving Yang a big stack of books to read after playing her fighting game with her
and the finale also has mention that through the break between semesters, Pyrrha and Jaune have been on a thorough training regimen because Jaune is determined to improve

and back in the Shirow Miwa manga, we see similar behaviour, with team JNPR going ahead on a training mission in the later chapters that told an original story following volume 1 (so around the same time period as this episode)

and something i thought of a while ago - back when she was at her low point in Ice Queendom, Ruby called team RWBY an embarrassment because she was struggling to hold the team together; the climax of the fight in the Miwa manga ends like this, which retroactively forms a kind of thematic resolution to that scene:

i don’t know, it’s just fun having all these disparate pieces of story during this time frame (because volume 1 did span several months and then there’s a timeskip up to volume 2) thanks to this spinoff material that can all fit in to the overall storyline but are also, for the most part, pretty synergistic with each other

Fandom Resolution: identify my likes and dislikes
Being a full person with likes and dislikes that I know and share is something I have to work at. So I’m keep a list (and checking it often 😊). It’s time to move from being what I think people want me to be to trusting them with my actual human self 💜

Fandom friends - the hype for posts/ideas and encouragement for WIPs and mutual unapologetic excitement and insight and advice and community. Yeah, love you, you talented bunch!
DC / Marvel crossovers - why choose??
Rare pairs - or basically writing any dynamic based on how interesting it has the potential to be.
Comedy / banter - I’ve really enjoyed creating back-and-forth moments and leaning in to characters that I think are funny and like to tease.
Developing head-canons, building out characters, and self-indulgence - I’m really enjoying my MJ in the Sunrise series. My idea is that she’s on the ace spectrum (like she feels the way she does about Peter because she knows him thoroughly), devoted to Peter (as he is to her), and completely non-judgemental about his desires (even if she will take longer time to consider her own role and might never move from where she is now at all). If she can see Peter wants something that he isn’t sure he can have, and she can ease that, she’s going to do it.
Taking part in events - reading everyone’s fics and commenting and sharing ideas, argh. It was my first time experiencing that in fandom and it was just such a joy.
Charcoal portraiture - I’ve never done anything like that baby Jason piece before and it was SO enjoyable. It’s probably 10 hours of work over 2 days and I literally loved them all. I didn’t know I could do that, it was fab. Also engaging with a character and their story to decide how to draw them: he’s hungry, he’s tired, he’s scared, he’s angry, he’s ready to fight, he’s only about 12 - I love him even more.
Dislikes:
Smut?? - Not sure if I dislike it, but smut was harder than I thought it would be to write, and I felt very self conscious about the lack of feedback. It’s hard to know if that’s because it was bad and people politely moved on or if there was less of an audience for it / public audience. I don’t think I enjoyed how I went about trying to write it, I think maybe in future I’ll try a) PWP to take the pressure of a storyline off (like these characters are already in universe together, let’s just move on), or b) a multi chapter fic where I mostly focus on the storyline and if smut feels like it adds something I’ll include it or write a side fic for it.
Not having a beta reader - the first fic I posted was so kindly beta’d by noxnthea and she made the whole process genuinely exciting and definitely improved the final output. I wrote the next one very late for the deadline and then the E rated fic I got weirdly shy about so I just posted them. It lets all the nerves creep in and puts a lot of pressure on AO3 stats! And on that vein…
AO3 stats page (/tumblr notes) - I’m not judging myself for wanting engagement because it’s very human to want connection. I do think I got a bit too keen on repeatedly checking my engagement stats when I wasn’t getting comments or kudos, and second-guessing everything. I can’t mind-read how people use AO3/tumblr and I need to try not to set myself arbitrary targets or to assume that low engagement means those seeing it aren’t enjoying it. However I have been pleased that I haven’t forgotten how much I enjoyed the creation process even after posting.

The Flash

Before I go any further I want to give a trigger warning, this movie’s lead has committed some truly reprehensible acts and I understand if you don’t want to read any further or share this review.
WB has no shortage of controversial collaborators, from everyone’s favorite transphobe, J.K.Rowling to the subject of this review, Ezra Miller.
To call his actions disgusting would be an understatement, abuse and sex trafficking are no laughing matter, and I want make it clear that I do not condone Miller’s actions.
The Flash takes place after the events of Justice League, and Barry Allen (Miller) has started working at a Forensics lab, and is working had to find evidence that will absolve his father of accusations of murdering his mom. With a greater mastery of his powers and understanding of the speed force (the source of The Flash’s speed) he decides to manipulate the timeline in order to prevents his mom’s murder. This choice catastrophically alters the timeline and he is forced to align himself with this reality’s Batman (reprised by Michael Keaton), a time variant of himself, and Kara Zor-El, SuperGirl (Sasha Calle).
I didn’t want to like this movie, but it’s a well put together superhero film, honestly better than anything that the MCU has put out recently.
That said, I will start with negatives, the score was insanely uninspired and I found myself pointing out how much of Barry’s theme sounded like the theme from the CW show. And don’t get me started on Batman’s music. Ben Wallfisch, knows how to copy homework, even if it is poor interpretation.
The CGI was vomit inducing, looking more like low resolution PS3 games than effects from this decade.
The way time travel is explained is idiotic, making it sound like the timeline can be fixed with a little TLC; this is yet another way that the show is far superior, (my inner science nerd is coming in 3,2,1) explaining that the fact the theoretical physics of a timeline being fractured, and could never return to exactly the way it was, no matter what was done.

Miller’s depiction of one of my favorite DC heroes, never ceases to annoy me. They never seems like someone who wants to do the right thing in a lot of scenes, they comes off as reluctant at various points and even when they develop it seems like he doesn’t like he’s learned anything. And yes, Barry is a HUGE nerd, but their performance was far from lovable. But part of that comes from irony of Miller playing this role.

Michael Keaton’s performance was like reuniting with an old friend, it was like he’d never left the role. It also helped that he was working with a director who actually understood.

Sasha Calle was an excellent choice for SuperGirl, she’s the first actress that I’ve play the role that played her as a hothead, which is one of my favorite characterizations of her.

Director Andy Muschietti, made something truly entertaining, so I will give credit where it is due, but that doesn’t excuse the lead for being an awful person or the fact that Warner Entertainment still wishes to endorse them.
I’m glad I got to see this movie for free, I had a lot of fun, and think it’s overall solid flick; but I can’t tell you what to do with your money, I know that I won’t be paying to see it in theaters again and instead donate my money to sex trafficking prevention and abuse counseling
I give The Flash a 3.5 out of 5.

3 min readPreparations for Next Moonwalk Simulations Underway (and Underwater) NASA’s DC-8 aircraft takes off from NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center Building 703 in Palmdale, California, to conduct test flights as part of the Airborne and Satellite Investigation of Asian Air Quality, or ASIA-AQ mission, that will collect detailed air quality data over several locations in Asia.NASA/Carla Thomas NASA and international researchers are studying the air quality in Asia as part of a global effort to better understand the air we breathe. In collaboration with Korea’s National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER), the Airborne and Satellite Investigation of Asian Air Quality, or ASIA-AQ mission, will collect detailed atmospheric data over several locations in Asia. Utilizing aircraft, satellites, and ground-based instruments, the ASIA-AQ team will gather and share data with air quality and government agencies to be used for air quality research and understanding worldwide. “Our purpose is to improve the understanding of the factors that control air quality,” said Jim Crawford, principal investigator for the ASIA-AQ mission at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. “Multi-perspective observations are needed because satellites, ground-sites, and aircraft each see different aspects of air quality that need to be connected.” While satellite views and ground measurements provide significant data, alone they cannot completely illustrate air quality problems and the sources that cause them. By adding airborne measurements to models along with satellite and ground-based observations, scientists can achieve a multi-dimensional, detailed perspective that evaluates our air quality models from all angles. A pair of NASA science aircraft will help provide those additional dimensions to air quality observations. The DC-8 from NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California, is outfitted with 26 instruments and will fly at low-altitudes to collect data from the atmosphere closest to the ground where people and habitats are impacted. Meanwhile, the G-III from NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, will fly at 28,000 feet altitude to create a high-resolution map of the pollution distribution in each study area, and how it changes throughout the day. Together with Korean aircraft from NIER, the NASA planes and instruments will supplement and cross-reference the observations made from the ground and satellite instruments. “Science missions for air quality [like ASIA-AQ] take a holistic approach of multiple perspectives to better understand our pollution issues,” said Laura Judd, platform scientist for NASA’s G-III aircraft. “If we can better understand how models simulate our air pollution, then we can forecast when these events unfold, and be able to disseminate that information to the public to make informed decisions.” Pollution changes as populations shift, economies ebb and flow, and industries move or evolve. The ASIA-AQ project will improve our ability to measure those changes and how they connect to the global scale.
