The most heartbreaking moment in my life was how when I was a college freshman, I promised myself "I will get a waffle iron when I have my shit together!", 7 shitty apartments and 14 years later, I finally got my shit together, got a waffle iron, only for the doctor, 6 months down the road, to be like, "you shouldn't eat bread anymore."
My life lesson to you....
Don't wait to get the kitchen appliance that will make your favorite food. Because some medical bullshit might come your way if you wait.
And to spite my doctor....I am gonna find a waffle recipe that I can eat. I waited 14 fucking years to make waffles at home for the rest of my life and I ain't tossing this fucking iron. So if any of you gluten free folks know how to make a delicious, sweet, fluffy, CW-ispy waffle, without wheat, almond, chickpea or pea flour, please let me know!!
I'm going to have my waffles dammit!!!

My medical food restrictions are not a part of diet culture.
I can't digest gluten.
I can't digest eggs.
I can't digest dairy.
Soy triggers my migraines.
I have lynch syndrome, and am therefore not supposed to eat red meat, or highly processed foods.
For the same reason, I am supposed to be on a low carb, low sugar diet.
THIS IS NOT DIET CULTURE.
Please think twice before you tell someone what to eat.

you know what used to piss me off to no end as a kid with celiac - and would still make me crazy if people talked like this to adults - is when people would ask me if i'm "allowed to eat" something. as if it was some kinda rule my parents had imposed. it's not what i was "allowed to" eat it's what i CAN eat safely

you should eat more protein but not anything with fat like eggs, red meat, pork, dark meat chicken, beans, etc. dairy has some protein but its too sugary and fatty too! and anyway you should eat more plants anyway! but not grains those dont count. and not fruit thats just sugar and you shouldnt have that! actually what you really need are veggies but like Real Veggies carrots are starchy and corn isnt a real veggie and broccoli is also starchy and potatoes arent a Real Veggie either. Also when you cook the veggie you basically destroy the nutrients and add in Bad Things like Salt or Oils. So dont do that. And also if you eat an amount i think is too much ur disgusting but if you complain youre still hungry ur also disgusting.
anyway have fun making dinner for yourself tonight :)

Can I just talk about being fat for a second though. (This is all from what I know, my perspective on my own experiences, with the full acknowledgement that yeah every BODY is different and some things work for others and dont work for the rest.)
More specifically being a "weight I don't want to be". I've tried a lot of things and read a lot of scientifically back research, that certainly doesn't make me an expert but I do know what didn't work for me, and didn't work, and didn't work. And nothing worked at this particular point.
It's a specific and unique kind of frustrating when I want to go about not responsibly, in a healthy way, and in a sustainable and long term way. I also wanted instant results but have worked on letting that particular hang up go at this point.
Diets do NOT work, they don't, they fuck up your metabolism and whole inner workings in the worst way. Whatever weight you lost you're HIGHLY, almost ALWAYS in fact going to gain it back or gain more than you had previously. The more you try the more your body will kick back and the worse the results will be every time. Ok so...diets dont work.
HOWEVER changing your eating habits will IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH, not necessarily help you lose weight but it WILL improve your health. I don't restrict myself these days (do Not read that as I eat endlessly and bottomlessly, as it turns out when you arent starving yourself on a diet or eating out of boredom your regular hunger is just. Pretty regular? Pretty low usually.) But I have really worked on not eating foods with saturated oils and high ADDED sugar items. They made me feel bad and I feel better in every single way by not eating them anymore. Every way, teeth, oral health, digestive health, my energy levels are way more EVEN not high or low, and overall physically feeling better.
I specifically said added sugars btw because fruit is fucking fine for you and natural sugars are fine for you. Nature throws in fiber with high sugar items far more often than not to even it all out.
Ok ok so diets dont work, mark one thing off the list of possible options. Eating in a more conscious way makes me feel better overall but doesn't necessarily help me lose weight. Ok so should I be looking at calories then? Apparently no because that does similar things that a diet does. Don't be eating 10000 calories a day but I guess if you eat under a minimal amount of calories a day your body goes into starvation mode and if this keeps happening your body once again will kick back worse everytime.
This has only ever helped me keep my current weight and I wasn't even aggressive with it. My body still went hey we're not getting enough hold on to what you can. Love her for doing that, glad shes looking out for us, i wish we could talk.to.each other so I could ask her to burn the fat reserves first, well always have food.
Unfortunately that's not how it works so ok calories in and out and diets don't work. Exercise and building muscle must be the solution then right? I don't know!! It's the hardest one by far and I hate doing it, there is no endorphin boost for me after exercising there is no bonus other than "I'm doing this for my health" and that alone is a poor motivation for the animal that I am. I worked all year long in 2022, hiked around all day in the heat and weather and yet I only dipped 5-10 lbs under my normal weight and returned right to it when seasonal work was done.
Ok so far everything I've tried or MAY have tried did work and or is bad for me in the long term. So my current attempt is, with my new eating habits and relationship with eating and food, is to go to the gym and just. Show up. I just show up and i walk/"hike" for 30 minutes ish and leave when I want to.. sometimes i stay longer sometimes I don't. This feels sustainable and doable. This FEELS better but will it work? Sincerely how do I lose weight if I can't restrict calories, go on a diet, or beat the shit out of my body with intense workouts until I weigh what I need to. None of that is sustainable for me and I get that but what CAN I do then :( I feel hopeless and stupid.
I want to be a specific weight for work reasons and health reasons btw. I want to be able to go out on fires and pass the fitness test for getting my red card. I want to be able to keep up with my coworkers when we are working and hiking to plots. I want to be able to move around in the forest better than I am right now. I need the weight off of my joints long term. I'm healthy at the moment, all blood tests come back excellent and I don't have any injuries or aches. I just want to be able to carry a 45 lb pack of gear in a back pack instead of on my body :(
I just feel helpless because there are so many things coming out now that say "This never worked for weight loss and never will, stop doing it!" But there still isn't JACK shit about what people CAN do to lose weight :((( only what they shouldnt

I'm still, so, so, so fucking scared to say my MCAS is in 'remission' (or as close as you can get with an illness like this), but I just had a gluten-free cupcake with strawberry jam in the middle and a white chocolate ganache on top, and if you'd told me less than four years ago that was a thing I'd be able to eat without going into anaphylaxis and setting myself back months in terms of recovery, I would never have believed you. Hell, a few months ago, I wouldn't have been able to eat this because I wasn't on the right meds.
And today I get to have a little treat with lunch because I feel like it.

Another Food Sensitivity Post
I wrote this in 2019. I've since developed an egg allergy. 😬
Food Sensitivity Thoughts...
So, I have an intolerance that I can NEVER "cheat" on, and a sensitivity that I can occasionally "cheat" on.
For the intolerance (gluten) I still have a lot of opinions on food I can't have, because I used to eat that food. So, people sometimes say, "I thought you couldn't have that, " or, "If you've had it before, how can you not have it now...?"
Also, I have a sensitivity to soy. If I overload on it, I get migraines. That can mean eating just a tiny bit of soy every day for several days, or eating one large thing with soy in it, like a whole candy bar*. But, I can cheat a little, occasionally and be okay.
It kind of leads to some disbelief sometimes, or some, "why can't you bend the rules this once..."
But more than having it happen to me, I see it happen to others, and feel like I should be more careful about what I share.
Or, I think about my allergies. I have mild allergies to some foods that make me itch. I still might eat a small bite of those foods now and then, but I feel like I want to be able to refuse them when I need too, without seeming rude. My actions might make allergies seem not serious, but I know some people who could easily die, or require a visit to the emergency room, if exposed to their allergy foods.
There's a bit of policing, or disbelief about food sensitivities, allergies, and intolerances.
People experience sensitivities differently. My sensitivities are not your sensitivities. And, sometimes we don't even experience them the same from one day to the next.
I think it's important for people to know that.
*(Here is an acknowledgement that chocolate might actually be okay, because soy lecithin is questionable but not absolute, but I might have been dealing with some hidden soy sources)

Mmk so I couldn't allow myself to just gatekeep these AMAZING snackies ♡
They are Jelly B. Drinkable Konjac Jelly, they r Korean and they r sooooooo good
They r super refreshing and it fills u up and satisfies sweet cravings
They r gluten free (100% in Australia and for US it doesn't have a warning against it), dairy free, sugar free, fat free, cholesterol free, nut free, halal, low carb, contain a bunch of vitamin C and a little calcium, and best of all EXTREMELY LOW CAL
There r at least 7 flavors (watermelon, apple, blueberry, peach, lychee, mango, and grape [the grape isn't American artificial grape where it taste more purple than fruity]), they r fairly cheap (especially if there r deals at the market), u can find them at ur local Asian market (I got mine at HMart and I think I got them for like $21 or $28 USD for 14 pouches) or Amazon (def more pricey)
Some of them taste exactly like the fruit while others don't rly but they r still rly good
Make sure when u drink it u shake it up real good, maybe even massage it a bit so u get bits of jelly rather than drinking all the juice and struggling to get the jelly out (I mean ig u could drink the juice and cut it open and eat the jelly with a spoon?) and they r best cold
I rly rly hope all of u who want them can find them bc they r SO AMAZING
Imma put pics of them below, ignore how dirty my kitchen floor looks pls (◍•ᴗ•◍)
P.S. so sry for how trash the pics r
P.P.S. rereading this post makes me sound like a commercial, I'm not getting paid btw, I just think all the babes here should know abt them if they r interested
Love u all ♡

Dungeon Meshi modern au where both Laois and Falin are food vloggers. Laois is always travelling to remote areas and cultures to try the most "extreme" foods and bring them to light. He's known as the guy who will drink blood and slam a still wriggling bug just to comment on it's nutty flavor. Meanwhile Falin is visiting long-standing eateries and sharing the stories behind local cuisine.
Nobody actually puts together they're siblings (in part due to wildly different viewerbases) until Falin in one video mentions how she enjoys eating insects and the comment section is full of folks asking her to "collab with the bug guy". Her very next video is her and Laois smiling infront of a mukbang style platter of insects and she introduces him as her brother.
