Love your stories. Was wondering about a story where Thena and Gil get a pet.
"No."
"But-"
"We have enough at home," Gil sighed, pulling Thena's hand into his in an attempt to lure her away from the lizard display. "Why did we even come here if you were only going to look at the lizards? We could've just walked into the garden at home."
"But this one is different," Thena countered, pointing over her shoulder to the bearded dragon who seemed just as distraught to be separated from her.
"I have enough lizard peelings to sweep up already, thank you," Gil chuckled, smiling as Thena at least matched his pace to walk beside him. "Isn't there anything else you'd consider?"
Thena stayed quiet, looking around at the various displays.
"What about a dog?" Gil suggested, pointing to the Australian Shepherds garnering by far the most attention. "You could take it hunting with you."
"An animal will only slow me down," Thena countered easily, and of course, she did have a point. She was faster and stronger than any mortal animal, and a mid size dog was probably not meant to be out hunting ostriches with the Goddess of War.
"We could get a bird," Gil tried again, pointing out the conures perched prettily in their cage. "They live a really long time."
"Gil," Thena sighed, but gave up her next argument at the look on his face.
He had suggested getting them a pet because he worried about having to leave her alone when he went to the market, and especially since he'd started going out further to other trading posts. They'd been in Australia long enough now that people were starting to recognise and get suspicious of Gil's completely unchanged appearance (handsomeness).
Thena could concede that perhaps some company wouldn't be the worst thing for her when he was travelling to other towns. Gil was mostly worried about her being lonely.
"You are only ever gone a day, Gilgamesh," she would chide him and his sensitivity.
"I still miss you," he would pout his lips at her cutely. "Don't you miss me when I'm gone?"
Like she could rip open her chest and hand him her heart to take with him. But she wasn't going to let that stop him.
"What about a guinea pig?--they come in two's!" Gil beamed at the squeaking little monsters. He pointed out specifically two cuddling together, one with a black coat of fur and the other so lightly blonde it was almost sheer white. "They're like us!"
"No."
"Thena," he chuckled, moving his hand from hers so he could pull her closer by the waist. He nestled his lips next to her ear, "I'm not leaving here empty handed, so find something, Sweetheart."
Thena nodded with a sigh. This was more for Gilgamesh than for her--if she thought about it that way it would be easier. She ran through the animals she would consider, although admittedly even if they weren't lizards they were still mostly reptilian. "Gil?"
"Gilgamesh?"
He was slowing to a stop, craning his neck to look at the kittens in their little enclosure.
"Stars above, help me," Thena sighed as she followed him over to the display of feline abominations. She glared down at the little mongrels. "Why are you so enchanted by these quadrupeds?"
"Oh, come on," he dismissed her grouching easily, looking down at the little cuties. "They're sweet."
Thena disagreed. She thought they were far too smart a creature to be as domesticated as they let humans believe. And they demanded the same attention as canines did, if not more so, only without the obedience to be sent away.
Gil had ooey-gooey eyes.
Thena sighed again, leaning over his shoulder as he held his hand out. The tiniest of all the kittens scrambled up into his palm, pressing low as Gil lifted it up. "You really want a feline?"
Gil said nothing, holding the kitten up for Thena to examine for herself. The kitten was white, fluffy, had massive ears ears it would have to grow into and big green eyes.
Thena had to admit, it was not as unpleasant as some cats she had encountered. She looked past those eyes at Gilgamesh, "this one?"
Gil's big, ooey-gooey eyes glittered at her. "He looks like you!"
Thena tried not to be insulted by that. She looked at the cat again, who took a cautious step towards her. She leaned in closer, hearing the soft purring it began emanating from its body. "Fine."
Gil lit up. "Really?"
Thena blushed, unable to look directly at him as if the sun were in her eyes. "Yes, but I will not tolerate having to compete with this thing for run of my own home."
Gil just chuckled. Thena didn't like that cats weren't afraid of her. He held out his hand, "you should hold him on the way home."
"Gil-" Thena blinked as he deposited the cat into her - very dangerous - hands without a second thought. The kitten attempted to balance itself in its newer and smaller platform of dwelling. She turned her hands to look at it. "Hello."
"Mew!"
Gil held back his laughter at the sight of the Goddess of War with ooey-gooey eyes.

"Hello." A dull thwack sound reverberated across the rooftop, leaving the boy who snuck up on Red Robin clutching his head. The boy, a meta if the large animal ears and tail were anything to go by, shook off the pain and pouted up at him, "What was that for?!"
The vigilante was unrepentant, holding his bo staff in a ready position, "You snuck up behind a vigilante at night. In Gotham."
"Okay," the meta conceded, still pouting. "You have a point there. Robin threw ninja stars at me when I tried to approach Batman."
That got Tims attention, "You tried to approach Batman? Was there something you needed?"
The kid suddenly got serious, "My mom went missing. I haven't been able to contact her for almost two weeks now."
Red pulled his arm closer to his face before he began typing on his wrist computer, "Can you tell me her name and date of birth?"
"Um." The other teen fidgetted with his tail a bit, "Okay, so...she's kinda Cheetah."
"...come again?"
"She's Cheetah. The...the supervillian."
Red Robin stared at him, and honestly who could blame him? The bats hadn't even known Cheetah had a son. "So why are you in Gotham? Why not ask Wonder Woman for help? Cheetahs one of her rogues not ours."
The teen shook his head, "She went to meet someone in Gotham before she disappeared. She seemed really agitated before she left, almost scared. I've never seen her like that before." He paused, giving the vigilante time to type before continuing, "I didn't go Wonder Woman since I figured I would wind up needing to talk to a bat anyway since its your turf and all." He said, waving a hand as if gesturing to the city around them.
"I wasn't aware Cheetah had a kid."
The meta grimaced, "she didn't until a year ago."
Red gave him a look, as if urging him to go on.
The meta chuffed, sounding a lot like whatever big cat he was supposed to be, "I'll only tell you my tragic backstory if you promise to help me find my mom."
"I'll find your mom." The bird said without an ounce of hesitation. Tim was a little offended. Did this guy think he was going to leave his mom in danger just because she was a criminal? Appearently so, seeing as the teen looked so relieved at his words.
"Okay, so my bio parents were evil mad scientists. Always a bad start, anyway they were obsessed with the occult and one day they suddenly took me and my sister to Brazil to hunt for some artifact of another. That alone was strange but weirder still was the fact my creepy godfather was paying for it all. He usually only does something like that when he's plotting "
"Plotting?" The detective interjected, "you make it sound like he does that often."
"Yeah. Hes a supervillian." The meta said casually, as if he didn't just leave Tim reeling, but the kid wasn't done yet, "He's had a massive crush on my bio mom since collage and never let it go no matter how many times she rejected him. She even married my dad, his best friend, and this dude just kept simping for 20 years." The teen rolled his eyes, "Hes convinced himself that if he murders my bio dad then my bio mom will fall in love with him and me and jazz will be "his"." He said that last part with fingerqoutes and a disgusted expression.
Tim filed that away for later, "Can I have his name, if nothing else?"
The teen seemed reluctant for a moment, "You're the worlds greatest detectives. You'll find out even if i try to hide it. Besides, I'd probably be better off if you and the Justice League know everything anyway."
Tim was...surprised by that. Most people usually weren't this open with them.
"His name is Vlad Masters, he also goes by Plasmius when he's dressed like a wannabe vampire. He's a ghost who's repossessed his corpse. My parents are Jack and Maddie Fenton, who are obsessed with ghosts and have convinced themselves that all ghosts are evil and must be destroyed, regardless of how much evidence points to them being wrong."
"And your name?"
The meta grinned at him, showing off four very sharp fangs, reminiscent of the large cat he takes after, "You can call me Jaguar. We were exploring a bit when I broke off from my family and got jumped by one of them. Suddenly I was struck by a claw and turned into furry bait. Fluffy stopped trying to make me his lunch and just stared at me before walking away, which was wierd. Then my parents found me, accused me of being a ghost, because thats naturally what someone would assume when thier son sprouts cat ears," he said while rolling his eyes.
"Naturally." Red joked, which had the benefit of making Jaguar smile.
"So my parents chased me through the jungle, shooting all the while, then suddenly a portal opened up in front of me. I'm not stupid, I know there was no way this wasn't a trap. I mean, a portal opening up right after that bizarre series of events and its the same shade of glowing green as the wierd death go my parents are obsessed with? There's no way they weren't related somhow, but I was desperate and jumped through anyway."
"I landed in another jungle, or the same one in a different location, I'm not sure. I tried hunting and foraging but wasn't very successful at either." Danny still remembered the throbbed in his head when he had headbutt that tree after missing his pounce on that pig he had been stalking. "Thats when Cheetah found me. She took me in and taught me to hunt and fight."
-----
Possible plot twists:
1. Danny isnt Phantom in this au
2. Danny is Phantom in this au but is trying to leave that life behind
3. My favorite. Danny has the ability to manipulate and control animals into doing his bidding with the effect of jaguars and other big cats being the most prevalent and he just doesn't realize it.
One of Cheetahs friends/allies realizes cheetah has changed and suspected something and convinced her to leave for a while to see if her care for this kid faded after a while away from his presence. It works and Danny loses another parental figure/possibly attacked by them too.

Seeley, Cam, Temperance, and Angela looked down from the balcony on the second floor of the lab. They leaned against the railing confused as they watched Zack laughing with y/n while they ate the lunch y/n brought.
“gotta be a sibling” Booth said, rubbing his hands together. In his eyes Zack was just a child genius that didn't have time to date.
“all of Dr. Addy's siblings are in New Jersey, but that could be a possibility,” Brennan said, looking at Booth then back down at Zack. Something about seeing Zack laughing like that with this beautiful person made her heart swell with happiness.
“Maybe it's just a friend,” Cam shrugged.
“No. I've never seen him laugh like that, he's definitely in love with whoever that is” Angela smiled. She felt so happy seeing him laugh. She could tell all that mattered to him tight now was y/n.
--------(1st pov)--------
“So, how's work?” I asked, nibbling on the last of my fries.
Zack nodded, munching on his onion rings. “well we found some very interesting set of particulates, something neither me nor Hodgins have seen on a victim before, and the humerus…” he stopped mid sentence.
Even though I never really understood all the science mumbo-jumbo I still like hearing him talk about it. There's something about seeing him get all excited and talk about something he's passionate about.
“no, no, keep going. I love it when you talk Science-y” I said resting my chin on my fist.
“'Science-y' isn't a word… And it's fine” Zack said, putting the rapper his burger came in and his napkin in the brown paper bag. “on another note, how's everything in the animal kingdom?”
I worked at the local animal shelter in town, it was an amazing job and I got work and take care of all kinds of dogs and cats. “well… Now that you mention it…” I started and gave him an innocent look. Zack tilted his head and gave me a warning look. “no! I know that look” he said, pointing his finger at me.
“Aw, but he was so cute”
“we already have two dogs... And a cat, that cat still dislikes me” he mumbled the last part.
“It's a small dog though,” I said, giving him a pouty lip. “it's a weiner dog mix, he'll stay tiny” we already had a black lab and a golden retriever, then on top of that I brought home a white cat home three months ago.
Zack playfully rolled his eyes. He always said he admired my love for all animals and loved how compassionate I was for all of them. Not so much when I keep bringing my ‘work’ home with me as he says.
“just imagine a cute little sausage dog curled up in your lap, helping you read Science stuff for work”
Zack sighed playfully.
“I'll let you name him” I smiled and gave him the puppy eyes he can't refuse. He sighed again. “don't give me the look”
“Please”
Zack groaned in a very monaton way. “... Fine”
I immediately wrapped my arms around him and kissed his forehead. “thank you babe”
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
“what are you doing?” Hodgins asked, walking up to the others. He looked over the balcony to see what everyone was staring at. He smiled when he saw y/n and Zack together.
“trying to figure out who's with Addy,” Booth said.
“Oh, that's y/n” Hodgins smiled.
Everyone gave Hodgins a confused look as Hodgins yelled down at the couple “Hi y/n!”
Y/n left Zack's arms and happily waved at Zack's best friend. “hey, Hodgins”
“soo… Who's y/n?” Angela asked Hodgins.
“Zack's partner” Hodgins smiled like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“your telling me Zack… Our little child prodigy is y/n's boyfriend” Booth asked, shocked but at the same time impressed Zack snatched up a beautiful person like y/n.
“trust me I didn't even know y/n existed until Zack tried to seek them in one night when he was still living with me” Hodgins said.
“Well, y/n seems to make him happy,” Cam smiled down at the couple.
“y/n's great… Zack just seems so much happier now”
The team smiled at the couple, Zack and y/n were in there own little world talking about the knew puppy and the case Zack was working on. Hodgins was right, he was so much happier with y/n in his life, he felt more alive and human. He just couldn't help but smile everytime he was in y/n's presents.
Tumblr media
being back home has always brought about a sense of peace she hasn’t been able to replicate anywhere else. it’s just a different serenity when she’s back under the blankets of the bed she’d grown up in, surrounded by everything that reminded her of being young and innocent.
oh, how she misses the times when it felt like the world was in her hands. how naïve of her to think that if she worked hard, she’d get everything she wanted.
every single word of rejection slowly dug the trenches she’s managed to find herself in lately.
she’s so deep in that she doesn’t think there’s a way out.
she lies on her back, childhood stuffed animals burying her in the blanket. she bores holes in the roof of her room where her glow-in-the-dark stars stare right back at her.
she can almost hear the ghost of her 13-year-old self whining as oscar and logan prop themselves up on her bed to paste them on her ceiling, making fun of her for being too short to do it herself.
it used to be so simple.
there’s soft knock on the door followed bt the creaking of its hinges as it’s pushed open. a head pops in. “can we go to the store?”
“what?” she turns her head towards the door and furrows her eyebrows. “can’t you just take my car and go alone?”
dalton frowns, “is it such a crime to spend time with my very beautiful older sister?”
she raises an eyebrow. “you want me to pay, don’t you?”
“don’t make me sound so feral,” the young boy huffs with a roll of his eyes. “i haven’t seen you in months… come on, let’s do something together?”
“i don’t really…” she sighs as she meets her younger brother’s stare and hopeful smile. “alright, mate, just let me change out of my pyjamas.”
that’s how she finds herself at a convenience store at 2 in the morning, hands in the pockets of one of logan’s old jackets that he left in her parent’s house, slowly sauntering through aisles with a blank stare.
she’s been staring at a box of cereal for a couple of minutes, debating with herself if she should let herself indulge. but lately, it just doesn’t feel like she deserves nice things.
when dalton finds her, he’s got a basket full of snacks and drinks. he stops at the end of the aisle with a puzzled stare and tilts his head. “didn’t see anything you want?”
she smiles, “not really. and i’m supposed to be watching my diet — too much ice cream, noah said.”
which is just another blatant lie. she hasn’t touched a drop of ice cream since matt had packed his bags and left her apartment. she hasn’t even really been eating.
dalton hums, “i guess… let yourself have a cheat day, though.”
she sighs out a soft laugh and slings an arm over dalton’s shoulders. “maybe tomorrow. come on, let’s pay up before mama finds out i let you convince me to drive you out to the store in the middle of the night.”
Tumblr media
she rests her head at the foot of her bed, nose-to-nose with kidnapper as he sleeps peacefully on one of her pillows.
“wish my life was as simple as yours,” she mutters, running her finger along the cat’s nose. “wish i could sleep all day and be adored like you, kid.”
she glances at her phone, lying peacefully on her side table next to the bed. it’s been going off with constant text messages for the past 5 minutes, most from logan and oscar asking about her parents’ anniversary party, and some from matt.
she can’t get herself to pick up the phone and answering feels like such a daunting task. she can’t find the right words to type out and send out as an acceptable response.
“hey,” the door opens and her mother’s head pops in, “busy?”
she lifts her head and smiles slightly. “what do you need me to do?”
“can you pick up the decorations from town? it’s pre-ordered, so you just gotta pick it up. then maybe could you bring home some dinner?” her mother flashes her a sheepish grin, obviously hoping that she would say yes.
“can’t you get dalton to pick it up? i’ll let him use my car if that’s what you’re worried about,” she offers with a small, unnoticeable scowl on her face. her plan for the entire day was to simply lie in her bedroom and do absolutely nothing.
her day simply isn’t complete unless she’s wallowed in self pity.
“he’s barely permitted to drive a car with an adult in the passenger seat,” her mother sighs. “come on, please? i’ll make you your favourite breakfast tomorrow.”
“really? it has to be me?”
“you’ve locked yourself in your room the 2 days you’ve been back,” her mother sighs again with the shake of her head. “i thought you came home early to help around.”
“i came back early to spend my break here. that doesn’t mean anything about helping around,” she complains, yet she’s scrambling to get herself off her bed. she knows better than to get into this sort of argument with her mother — it’s simply not going to be worth it. “but if it has to be me…”
she gets up and drops kidnapper off in dalton’s room. she changes out of her day-old pyjamas and heads to town where her mother had asked her to go.
all the while cursing under her breath about having so much to do on her supposed break. she’d only driven herself back ahead of her parents’ anniversary party to give herself a break from the fast-paced nature of london.
that and the refusal to go back to her apartment when it no longer felt like home.
but she does all that her mother asks of her anyway because her mother says so.
Tumblr media
“you need to eat more, my love.” she watches her mother stand from her position on the dinner table and pick up a bowl of noodles. “you look like you haven’t been eating at all.”
“mama,” she tries to protest with a sigh, shaking her head as she tries to push away the bowl from her plate. “i’m not very hungry.”
her mother is insistent. she shakes her head with a soft huff, scooping out a bunch of noodles and putting it on the plate in front of her. “you need to eat more than you’re eating.”
she lets out an irritated sigh and turns to her father, sat next to her mother, for some sort of words to help her. but he just shrugs at her with an apologetic smile.
“i just want you to look like yourself again,” her mother sighs, pinching her cheek tenderly with a small smile. “you’ve had a tough year.”
she scoffs, dropping her head to toy with the noodles on her plate. of course, she uses her shit of a season to justify being an overbearing figure in her life. she would have been more tolerant of it — as she’s been her entire life — but it’s just not a good time for this behaviour right now.
“fine, whatever.”
Tumblr media
she glances down the hallway for anyone who would catch her before she opens the door. she’s greeted by 2 beds and an empty room, but an overwhelming familiarity of friendship. a friendship that she’s strayed so far from that it barely makes sense for her to be standing in this bedroom.
on top of the dresser is a framed picture of her, oscar and logan at a karting track in the earlier days of their karting days together. she stands between the boys, oscar and logan leaning into her with their lips pressed against either side of her cheeks.
on the beds, she can see the 3 of them cuddled up together when she was 14 seeking help from the older boys with her homework.
if she thinks hard enough, she sees her 15-year-old self on oscar’s bed with the blankets pulled up to her chin with logan and oscar squeezing in the other bed in the room when she’s having trouble sleeping by herself.
in the far corner of the room, she can see herself at 16 curled up on the floor after her first boyfriend had broken up with her. and oscar walks in with a small scowl but 3 pints of ice cream for them to share while they try to distract her of the pain.
the room’s been cleaned and polished by her mother, preparing for oscar and logan’s return for their anniversary party this weekend.
she makes a sharp turn for the cabinet at the side of the room, pushing through hangers of jackets and sweaters hanging neatly, untouched for god knows how long. she sighs when a familiar red jacket comes into view.
“i told mama this is mine,” she grumbles under her breath, pulling the jacket out of the cabinet. it’s a ferrari jacket that oscar had gotten from his parents when he was younger, but since he’d outgrown it, she’d claimed it for herself.
“oh, there you are.”
she turns around, with a heavy heart and teary eyes, and comes face-to-face with her father. “hey.”
“i’ve been looking all over for you,” he sighs heavily, stepping into the room with caution. “i just wanted to check in on you after what happened during dinner. you know mama meant well.”
she grins with a slight nod. “yeah, i know.”
“and we’re just concerned for you.” he wraps an arm around her and rests his chin on top of her head. “after the year you’re having… we’re all concerned for you.”
“concerned?” she repeats under her breath, looking up at her father. “regarding what? i’m doing fine.”
“personally, i’m just concerned because you’re my princess,” he mumbles, giving her a squeeze. “and you know… i’m your father? i know if something’s wrong, but it’s okay if you don’t wanna talk about it yet.”
she lets out a heavy sigh, relaxing in his arms. she wraps her arms around him and nuzzles her face into his chest, “thanks for not making me talk about it.”
Tumblr media
she throws her head back, trying to pull back the hand that’s clasped in dalton’s hands, yanking her towards the garage of the house.
“come on,” dalton mutters, “we’ll have so much fun! just like before!”
“dalton, i told you i didn’t feel like leaving the house today,” she whines, trying another attempt at pulling her hand back from him. “i have some things to settle with my finances and schedule… i’ve put that off for a couple days and kristen and noah need those by tonight.”
“i’m sure it can’t take that long,” dalton whines with a heavy sigh, tugging on her arm. “just a quick movie in at the theatre then a cup of ice cream?”
“dalton, come on, i said i don’t have the time for this!” she shrieks, yanking her arm back and stomping a foot on the ground. “i’ll pay for you to go with a couple of friends, but i can’t go with you. i have adult matters to handle before the week is over.”
dalton blinks at her, shocked at her sudden outburst. “i just wanted to spend time with you before you go off and not come home for months… i’m sorry.”
she opens her mouth to add to her previous statement, but seeing her younger brother with a frown on his face instantly felt like a pierce through her heart. “i– dalton,” she sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose. “i just have so much going on right now. maybe we can go a little later? i just need to finish a couple of things for my team.”
“it’s alright,” dalton sighs dejectedly, shaking his head. he walks past her to head for the stairs. “maybe next time when you’re not being a bitch anymore.”
“what the fuck,” she mutters with eyebrows furrowed, turning around with her gaze following his steps. “you did not just say that.”
“what?” dalton whirls around. “it’s true. you’ve been such a bitch since you came back. you lock yourself inside your room, you never wanna talk to me, you never wanna join me for snacks, it takes me extra effort just to convince you to come out of the house and do stuff with me… you changed, mate.”
she takes a deep breath. “of course, you don’t understand. you’re just a 16-year-old — you don’t fucking know anything.”
“i know my sister,” dalton scowls. he rolls his eyes and scoffs with a dry laugh. “sorry, i mean i used to know my eldest sister. nowadays, you just ignore my texts, never return my calls and never wanna hang out. you’re a flake, rocky.”
“and you’re just a fucking kid, why should i take anything you say seriously? what do you know about anything that’s outside of your stupid video games and secondary school?” she huffs. “and what do you know about what’s going on with me? that’s not fair.”
“i’m not talking to someone who’s not open to criticism.” he glances at her over his shoulder one more time before running up the stairs. “get a grip, mate.”
Tumblr media
“hey, i heard you were back early.” the front door closing echoes in the house, ciara putting her backpack down next to the shoe rack.
the other girl sits on the couch, attention unwavering to the tv show she’s put on to watch. “yeah. hi.”
“i bought you dinner on my drive home from campus.” ciara skips over to the couch happily, leaning down on the back of the couch her older sister sits on. ciara turns her head to grin at her. “from the chinese restaurant. i got you some noodles and wanton.”
“oh, thank you.” she turns her head with a small grin and a soft eye, eyes stinging with every blink. “welcome home, ara.” she pulls ciara in for a short side hug and presses a kiss on her cheek. “how’s uni?”
“it was alright,” ciara shrugs. “join me for dinner?”
she hums, returning her attention to the tv screen. “maybe not; i’m still full from the lunch i had. but thank you for getting me dinner.”
“you’re home!” dalton appears at the top of the stairs with a big grin. “did you get me my fried rice?”
“of course!” ciara beams, beckoning him down towards the dining table. “help me set up the table. rocky’s still full from lunch. it’s just us, come on.”
dalton hops over to the kitchen with ciara, not sparing his eldest sister another stare. so she just turns off the tv and runs back to her bedroom.
Tumblr media
“oh. i didn’t know it was such a sensitive topic,” her mother shrugs with a soft chuckle. “i was just curious because you said matt was going to be here for the party this weekend and suddenly he’s not.”
the girl shrugs, keeping her stare on the plate. “yeah, but i really don’t wanna talk about him right now.”
“come on, just concerned for your relationship.” she clenches her jaw, feeling a knot form in her throat as she lifts her eyes to meet her mother’s stare across the table. “did something happen?”
“no,” she lies with a small grin. “he’s just got some things to settle back in the states. he’s just busy.”
“or maybe he realised you were a bitch,” dalton mutters under his breath.
“dalton,” ciara warns through gritted teeth, hitting dalton on the shoulder very gently. “what the hell?”
“what? it’s true,” dalton mutters. “you know that more than i do.”
“that’s enough,” her father speaks up. “let’s just eat dinner, okay?”
Tumblr media
“no, my love,” a whine comes from behind her, “you put it up wrongly.”
the girl on the top of the ladder looks over her shoulder and meets her mother’s judgemental stare and disappointed frown. “you literally told me to put it here, mama.”
“put it up higher, no– like– i’ll just do it.” her mother offers her a reassuring smile and beckons her to get down from her position.
“no, it’s so dangerous for you to be up here,” she mutters, attempting to readjust the wall decorations to her liking. “just tell me where to put it.”
“you’re,” her mother pauses, “not doing it right. just come down and let me do it.”
she huffs and drops her hands. “fine.”
she climbs down the ladder, folding her arms over her chest as she watches her mother replace her.
“see? isn’t that better.”
but she swears it’s exactly the way she’d put it up just a moment ago.
Tumblr media
“is this what you’re going to do the entire time you’re here? just mope in your room with your cat?”
she lifts her head from her pillow and turns, resting her head again as she stares at her mother standing at the door. “is this really how you want to start the day?”
“it’s noon. the day started almost 3 hours ago.” her mother leans on the door frame of her bedroom. “you have to get up and do something. locking yourself up in here,” she pauses to look around the kiddish bedroom, “it won’t make you feel any better.”
“i just have a lot going on,” she mumbles, flipping herself to face the other side of the room. “i’ll come down in a while. i just need a couple minutes.”
Tumblr media
“oh, my god, mama!” her voice echoes in the empty house, running down the steps with her mother following shortly behind her. “stop asking me about matt! i don’t want to talk about him right now!” she turns around at the bottom of the steps. “not with you; not with anyone!”
“i’m just trying to give him an answer, my love! he’s concerned for you. he said you haven't answered his messages all week,” her mother reprimands with her hands on her hips.
“that’s between matt and i and you have no say in this, sorry.” she raises her hands in the air to surrender before walking away. “it’s just none of your business.”
she’d just been relaxing in her room by herself when her mother came in trying to make conversation. she’d been receptive at first until she realised that she was trying to get her to talk about matt again.
which, she’s just not ready to open up about yet.
“it is if you’re acting this way! locking yourself in your room all day… fighting with dalton? don't even get me started on the way you can’t even clean up after yourself — you’re an adult now.”
“i’m an adult, yeah, so let me deal with my fucking problems however i see fit!” she laughs dryly and turns to face her mother again. “can i have some room to breathe? please? without everyone following closely behind me and staring at me like i’m pathetic?”
“we don’t think you’re pathetic!”
“i see the sorry in your eyes when you look at me! everyone seems to be looking at me that way lately!”
“my l–”
“just please leave me alone!”
so she gets in her car and drives away. she doesn’t know how long she drives for, tears in her eyes and chest heaving in sobs.
but she finds herself at the park nearby, one that she used to frequent with oscar and logan after school. she parks her car right by the roadside and forces herself onto the empty playground. she sits on the slide for hours until she feels slightly better.
Tumblr media
she pushes the front door open with a heavy sigh. the sadness of pulling up in the driveway of her house worries her. it’s like the sadness seems to find a way to follow her everywhere.
everywhere she goes, it’s like there’s a dark cloud hanging above her head and she doesn’t know how to make it go away.
“where have you been?” ciara’s voice startles her, sending her a step back. “we’ve been worried sick for you after you left so abruptly before dinner! you weren’t even picking up your phone!”
“i just needed some time alone,” she says with a heavy sigh. she closes the door behind her and slips out of her shoes. “i was just at the playground i used to go to with logan and oscar. think i left my phone in my bedroom before i left and i went to grab dinner–”
“seriously? you’re not even sorry?” ciara screams, throwing her arms in the air. “we’ve been so worried sick for you since you walked out for no reason?”
she tilts her head. “no reason? mama has been grilling me about things i don’t want to talk about since i came back.”
“she’s concerned for you! we’re all concerned for you!”
“i didn’t ask for your concern! i’m asking you guys to leave me alone; give me some fucking room to breathe!”
“then why did you come all the way here just to lock yourself in your bedroom? if you want to be left alone, you should’ve just fucking stayed in london where you have an apartment where no one will fucking bother you!”
she huffs, hands on her hips. “fine. i’ll just go back. since it’s such a bother that i’m too sad to be here right now.” she stomps past her younger sister and up the stairs, heading right for her bedroom.
“don’t try and guilt trip me to feel sorry for you!” ciara chases after her. “it’s just not fair that you came all this way to be fighting with every single person in this household! just because blythe’s not here, doesn’t mean you’ll get away with this behaviour!”
“i’m not trying to guilt trip you,” she snarls, grabbing her bag from the ground and shoving her things, sprawled all over her room, into it. “but i’m sorry my feelings are such a burden to you guys. cause personally, i’m not having the best time.”
“if you’re not having the best time, don’t bring us down with you! it’s mama and papa’s anniversary! spend a little time not thinking of yourself for once!”
“i’ve spent my whole life not thinking of myself! you don’t know — you’re just a spoilt brat who got everything she wanted growing up! i actually had to work for the things i wanted.”
ciara scoffs, finally stepping into the room. “who gave you the right to act all high and mighty like you’re better than everyone? being the eldest kid doesn’t mean shit, genius.”
“well, what would you know about being the eldest kid? you never had to take care of anyone besides yourself; you never had to think of anyone but yourself.” she picks up kidnapper, sleeping on the foot of her bed and throws her bag over her shoulder. “just fuck off, ciara.”
“you’re not the only one with problems, you know,” ciara scoffs, folding her arms over her chest. “and what, you’re leaving? way to face your problems head-on.”
“i’m leaving because clearly i’m not wanted here,” the older girl sighs, pushing past the girl to her bedroom door. “so let me get out of your hair before my sadness becomes too contagious for your liking.”
“you’re leaving?” blythe says in shock, watching her older sister walk past her without another moment’s hesitation. “but i just got here. and isn’t the part tomorrow?”
“she’s throwing us the dramatics!” ciara announces with a loud laugh, running down the stairs to catch up with her older sister heading right for the front door. “she’s leaving because she can’t face the fact that she could be overreacting this one time!”
“overreacting?” blythe repeats, following both sisters down the stairs. “what are you guys even fighting about?”
“she left for hours with no contact!”
“i don’t even wanna stay long enough for you to paint me to be the villain,” the girl announces, pulling the front door open. “i’m leaving.”
I'm a bit curious was it ever confirmed that Shaun and Ian interacted with one another or met before the eventual breakup between Ian and MC. If not what are some of your headcanons on this matter would they have gotten along at all?
Actually, yes, it has been confirmed that Shaun and Ian knew each other before Ian and MC broke up in this comic posted over on the official Sunny Day Jack twitter!
Tumblr media
Credit as always to Sauce for their awesome artwork and for giving us this hilarious glimpse into college age Ian and Shaun. Consider supporting them and the rest of the SnaccPop Studios team by joining the patreon for even more lore tidbits I can't even mention publicly. Just remember, don't share anything privately posted!
While a lot of teaser/development art should be taken with a grain of salt, if it appears on one of the official pages, it's a pretty safe bet that it's canon to the timeline of the game.
So this comic, also drawn by the awesome Sauce, while hilarious, may or may not be canon.
Tumblr media
I think it's a pretty safe bet to say that Ian did not pass Shaun's vibe check.
The first comic certainly makes it clear that Shaun didn't find Ian attractive considering the way he reacted. Maybe it's due to jealousy (I don't think Shaun wants to think about his crush having sex with someone else) or maybe it's because of Ian's bad taste in anime. Who can say?
Content Warnings: This post contains talk of cheating, jealousy, drinking in excess, (unintentional) self-harm, near death experience, SA, issues with sex, and toxic relationships.
I suspect that these two just didn't get along. Between Shaun suffering from jealousy due to his crush and the two of them having different tastes, they were probably only friendly to one another for MC's sake.
I would imagine that Shaun's opinion on Ian took an extreme nosedive when they found out Ian cheated on MC.
Man... can you imagine how much pain Shaun has been through? He had to watch his best friend/crush be happy with someone else... then get devastated by being cheated on. The worst part was if he had bad vibes from Ian from the start, but he ignored his gut feelings for MC's sake.
When it comes to my personal headcanons that I use for Sunshine in Hell... Shaun and Ian had friction since the first day Alice introduced the two of them.
It wasn't just Shaun being jealous of Ian either. Ian was jealous of Shaun too!
Ian has always suffered from a low sense of self-esteem. Shaun, by comparison, is much more well put together, more outgoing, and has this natural charisma that draws people to him. Shaun is just so likable that he gets a lot of attention and friends. For years, Ian was the exact opposite of that, which led to him being bullied and degraded often.
So one day Alice, his childhood friend and partner, is super excited to introduce Ian to her new friend. Shaun and Alice have a lot in common, and it was very visible in the early years of college when Alice was in the middle of her pastel goth phase. Shaun and Alice had a love for horror movies, cats, the goth aesthetic, and a whole bunch of other things. They clicked so quickly, and it scared Ian a little.
It didn't help that Alice had trouble making friends like Ian did. They had that in common, something that gave them a sort of understanding that no one else could intrude on. Now that they were in college they started making more friends, and that was a good thing, really! But Alice clicked with Shaun about as fast as she did with Ian.
In the 1st grade, one day Alice mustered up the courage to talk to Ian in order to cheer him up. After that they started talking every day and they were besties ever since. From there, they started dating. She's never really clicked with anyone else so fast like she did with Ian...
Until Shaun, that is.
Ian kept comparing himself to Shaun, unfavorably. He kept worrying about Alice falling for Shaun instead since, well, clearly Shaun had so much more than Ian had to offer. Why wouldn't she? What didn't help his insecurities was the fact that they had been a couple since high school, but they still hadn't had sex yet.
I integrated the comic into part of Alice and Ian's troubled sex life. The depicted instance was Ian's attempt at making things romantic so that they could finally go all the way.
It took them a while to start being sexually intimate due to their mutual lack of practical knowledge and Alice's SA trauma. She was very cuddly with Ian, not afraid to kiss him or go into a make out session, but she struggled to go further than that for a long time. It left Ian struggling with insecurities, fearing that he wasn't attractive to her despite her constantly reassuring him that wasn't the case.
Really, it was that insecurity and self-blame that pushed Alice to go further than she was ready for, to pretty painful results that she learned to just accept as part of the experience.
Alice is the type of person who can't be comfortable with people touching her unless she trusts them. However, when she gets close to someone, she can get pretty cuddly, even with her friends, giving them hugs often. So, for Ian, seeing his girlfriend get comfortable hugging another guy... someone he might have noticed looking at her a certain way...
Well, getting cockblocked on his rocky road to losing his virginity didn't help Ian see Shaun in a more favorable light.
Really, this was an incident that pushed Ian to be a bit more possessive of Alice. He was already struggling with the fact that his partner was sharing a dorm with someone else, but for Shaun to just casually walk into her bedroom like that without knocking? Ian certainly had permission to come in there without Alice knowing since he's her boyfriend, and he was planning to surprise her with a romantic evening, but how long had Shaun been just letting himself into her private space so casually?
Ian didn't believe that Alice was cheating on him, but what if Shaun decided to take advantage of her? What if this casual blurring of their living space led to feelings blooming?
What if Alice realized that Shaun was so much better than Ian in every way?
This led to Ian asking Alice to move into an apartment with him, even if it cost them money. He was able to feel more secure when they were living together, and he could be the one going into her bedroom at any hour of the day to be with her instead of someone else.
Shaun did try to befriend Ian, but it seemed like every time they hung out, something would rub him the wrong way. He did his best to be happy for Alice and Ian in their relationship, but it wasn't just Ian's shit taste in anime that struck Shaun as a red flag.
It didn't take Shaun long to notice a pattern in Ian and Alice's relationship. Ian would be down on himself, even cry and apologize for being inadequate, and Alice would reassure him. It seemed like every day, he saw this happen at least once. He tried reassuring Ian as well when he could, but after a while it gets tiring to try and lift someone up who keeps dragging himself down. Shaun would suggest Ian try therapy, and Ian would insist it wouldn't work, he was hopeless, and it wasn't worth wasting money on.
It was only when Alice showered Ian with love, and when their mutual friends bent backwards to cheer him up, that Ian would perk up again.
Shaun saw the red flags going up, how Ian was so needy for Alice and it was wearing on her. She went out of her way for Ian all the time, doing so much more because Ian "needed" her.
What made it worse was that Shaun saw how unbalanced their relationship was, how Alice gave Ian so much more than Ian gave back. Because Ian was so clingy, Alice had to often cancel meet ups with friends at the last minute, citing that he was having a bad day and needed her. Yet, on days when Alice was feeling like shit, she just kept powering through, pretending nothing was wrong. It took Shaun a lot of effort to pry her into leaning on him, and he'd even go out of his way to do stuff for her without her asking, like buying her lunch when she was so overworked she forgot to bring any.
Shaun worried for Alice because she was his friend, and she didn't deserve this sort of treatment. It was like she had become Ian's emotional crutch. Regardless of his attraction towards her, regardless if they could ever get together, he wanted her to be happy.
Shaun's opinion of Ian slowly deteriorated over time, but it turned into downright hate when Ian cheated on Alice, especially after she almost died because of it.
It was just a normal night when Shaun got a phone call from Ian. It was about Alice of course. It was the only reason Ian ever called Shaun - to check up on Alice. That night was different because Ian was in a panic. Alice wasn't picking up for him, which was unusual enough, but Ian was insistent that Shaun needed to check on her to make sure she was okay.
It was lucky that Shaun had the spare key to the apartment Alice and Ian shared. The sight of her lying unconscious in a pool of blood in the bathroom is a scar that'll forever be etched in his memory.
Shaun spent an entire night terrified, wondering what had happened. Did Alice try to kill herself? Why? She might have been missing Ian after he moved across the country, but she always reached out to Shaun and others when she wanted company. What happened that night? When he mentioned Alice's state to Ian, he just wailed that it was all his fault and Shaun couldn't reach Ian after that, as Ian was busy trying to book a flight back home to see her at the hospital.
Shaun had to be the one to call Alice's family too, but he had no answers to give them. The doctors would only let family or her legal partner see her for a while. It was only the next day that he learned that it was all because Ian had cheated on Alice, and she drank to dull the pain, only to hurt herself under the influence of alcohol poisoning.
Shaun could've kicked himself. He saw the problems in their relationship, but he didn't think it was his place to say anything. He worried his jealousy was coloring his perspective, seeing things too negatively. Now he wished he pushed harder like his gut told him, got Alice to see that the relationship was no good for her.
When Alice forgave Ian and tried to make it work, Shaun couldn't just sit back and let it happen.
So, yeah, Shaun's opinion of Ian in the present day is very negative. He views Ian as a toxic, manipulative, cheating scumbag who didn't deserve Alice. It was a relief when he managed to help Alice see that too so that she could finally end that toxic relationship. He was there for her so many nights when she cried over Ian and missed him. He saw the pain Ian put Alice through, and it just made his hatred of Ian grow.
Ian is grateful for Shaun being there to help Alice and even getting her to the hospital, but that doesn't get rid of his jealousy. Shaun and Alice are still talking even though she never picks up the phone for Ian anymore. He sees their exchanges online. They're still close. Shaun could one day sweep in and...
Ian can't let that happen. He can't let Shaun steal away the person who means so much to him. He can't let Alice just let him go like this. He just has to apologize to Alice, keep apologizing, and everything will be fine.
Sooooo... yeah, suffice to say, Ian and Shaun do not get along, and I doubt that they ever will... at least in my headcanons.
SUMMARY: Hitoshi has never been so annoyed by his new cat stealing your attention from him and ruining all your dates. A/N: I'M SO SORRY I LET THIS COOK IN MY DRAFTS FOR SO LONG AND I GOT LAZY AT THE END @/katsukistofu anyways, actual A/N: the cat's name can be interpreted as a reference to the Apothecary Diaries or a pun on meowing or in Chinese literally catcat WARNINGS: Mentions of poop (it's cat, what'd you expect) and probably very OOC Hitoshi (forgive me I haven't finished MHA)
Hitoshi wanted to throttle everyone in the room and then himself. Not the best way to start your mornings.
“Everyone in the room” was actually just his cat. Of course you could count Eri and Aizawa downstairs but in truth the only one Hitoshi wanted to actually (not really) throttle was the cat. Possibly himself later too when you inevitably get mad/laugh at him.
He doubted the cat in question knew that though. Or if Maomao knew that she didn't care. Hitoshi side eyes her from the mirror, still in the process of getting ready. She continues her washing on his bed, either very obliviously or very smugly.
Hitoshi liked cats. Loved and adored them, in fact. But ever since THIS particular, traitorous feline waltzed into his life he might make an exception.
It probably started when he introduced Maomao to you. He'd been pretty worried to how his new pet would take to you, because if his beloved girlfriend and precious cat didn't get along he'd get another reason for insomnia. Thankfully however, you had immediately fallen for the innocent-looking Calico, getting on your knees at once to pet and coo and fawn over her. Maomao, in turn, ate it up and made a huge racket when you had to leave eventually. So far, so good - until Maomao decided to subsequently betray the one who had adopted her and be a gigantic (beep)block.
Only Eri believed him when he was complaining about how every time he tried to cuddle you, bam, Maomao was there to yowl and get in between. Wanna kiss? Um, no, Maomao just had to run into your legs and beg for head pats. Close the door and sleep without her? Nah, no, nope, she stayed outside wailing and scratching. Enjoy a movie night? Haha, Maomao thought not, so of course she tipped over the popcorn bowl on purpose, right?!
One time Hitoshi gave you a kitty plushy that resembled Maomao. The cat in question (jealously, he swore to the wide eyed Eri) stole it and it still hadn't been found; she took a dump right beside her litter box to be petty as well.
You ate it up. You succumbed to her cute, beseeching eyes to hug HER (and not him), let her get in the middle of you two on the couch (you even shooed him away to make room) and the audacity! You always complained if he took up most of the blanket you two were sharing, and when Maomao hogged up everything? You let her.
He couldn't believe how you utterly believed the cat's obviously jealous, possessive nature. The nerve of Maomao, to steal his girlfriend when he was the one to rescue her!
While Eri believed him completely, no matter how cute she was it wasn't going to give him much credibility.
Therefore, as Hitoshi suspiciously watched Maomao saunter out of his bedroom, he was going to come up with a plan to FINALLY get some long overdue kisses, dates and affection from you without Maomao interrupting.
STEP 1: Begin by showing the cat who's boss.
Hitoshi glared viciously at the creature who had first crawled in between you and him, therefore interrupting yet another cuddle session before demanding you to go get her some more treats as if he hadn't just fed her an hour ago. To top it off Maomao was now triumphantly meowing at him and pawing at the plushy you had gifted him.
“You're not getting that. You might have my own girlfriend wrapped around your paw but you and I know what you're REALLY like.” Hitoshi wondered if his mind control extended to animals, particularly the one now hissing at his reluctance to hand over the plushy.
“First you steal my girl and now you want my plush? That's low, even for you.” The cat's eyes widened innocently as Hiroshi's narrowed. “Let's not forget who rescued you from the streets, Mao. Or who's been changing your kitty litter, feeding you or bought you all those toys. Remember I'M the one paying for all your vet and grooming visits. So the least you can do is at least let me enjoy one movie night with my girlfriend, thanks, instead of hogging up everything.”
Huh. He didn't actually think that would work. Maomao looked disdainful but trotted away.
You reappeared, holding a bowl of popcorn and setting down a bowl of Maomao’s cat food. “Hey, where'd she go?”
“Somewhere.” Somewhere where she was probably throwing a tantrum, Hitoshi meant, but he grabbed you and managed to spend a pleasant two hours getting snuggled and teasing you about your overreactions to the movie.
Then Maomao jumped on him and spilt the leftover popcorn everywhere before walking off proudly.
STEP 2: Attempt to appease your feline by providing them with more affection, food and playtime. Your cat may simply be feeling left out.
In other words, bribery was his next method.
Bribery and spoiling, really. For the next three days Hitoshi did his utmost best - Maomao was fed nothing but her favourites, Hitoshi bought her a new toy which they spent countless hours playing with, he let her nap in his bed, Eri helped him pick out a new collar, blah blah blah. Everyone absolutely showered Maomao with attention and affection. So far she seemed very pleased with herself, strutting her around with her tail swishing and purring loudly for all to hear.
Surely, surely, she wouldn't mess with the study session you and him were going to have, right? Right?
Hitoshi was beginning to believe that as time passed; the both of your heads were bent forward, trying to make sense of maths. The click of pens, the flipping of pages, the crunch of your third bag of chips were the only sounds around. He wasn't worried about Maomao’s silence either - she couldn't possibly be causing trouble while sleeping in a patch of sunlight.
“I think we did a pretty good job, ‘Toshi.” You stretched your arms, yawning exaggeratedly. “Not to be lazy but I really want a snack. Something grape flavoured.”
Hitoshi raised his eyebrows, lifting his eyes away from his essay. “No.”
“Oh come on, don't act like you're not hungry, I heard your stomach growling-”
“No as in I know exactly what “snack” you want. Enough eating those grape gummies. You're addicted.”
“Hitoshi!” You whined. “Stop outing me!”
In the end you both compromised with a bag of sour cream chips each, no sharing. Well, no sharing from your end, really - Hitoshi gave in with a sigh as you leaned towards him with puppy dog eyes when your bag empties, feeding you the chips. Maomao awakens and decides to drop by, meowing for the crumbs as well. Hitoshi shoos her away from his books, informing her she’s already eaten and he wasn’t even sure if cats could eat sour cream. Maomao sulks when he gives the chip she wanted to you instead.
But it turns out it’s Hitoshi that’s left sulking as Maomao leaps onto the table and knocks over his coffee all over the desk and steals the chips. While he won’t admit it to you or Maomao or anyone - yes he’s concerned about the sour cream thing and wasted half an hour researching if his stupid cat was going to be okay.
STEP 3: If that fails try asking someone else to care for your cat while you both are away.
“Don’t forget to feed Maomao, she’s not supposed to have-”
“Hitoshiiii! I know!” Eri makes a face, hugging the cat close to her chest as she rolls her eyes and pouts. “Trust me, Maomao’s my cat as well!”
“Yeah, but you’re still taking her to your friend’s house, so I don’t want anyone getting into trouble.”
“Quit being a worrywart! Go have fun with your loooooooover!”
“You know what, the faster you leave, the happier I’ll be,” Hitoshi grumbled, pushing Eri out of the door gently to where Aizawa was waiting impatiently. “Shoo, homewrecker.”
“Bye, Hitoshi!”
“Good riddance.” He gives her a side hug anyway. Maomao hisses, annoyed she was being forced to leave. Hitoshi paid her no mind, seeing as she had been throwing hissy fits all day as if she knew you were coming and Maomao wouldn't be around.
You come over soon, exclaiming over the loss of his cat’s company, but you get over it quickly. You both have the house to yourself, after all, and the freedom to do whatever you wanted until Aizawa came back. Hitoshi's guardian needn't have been suspicious of you both getting up to no good however; you both wound up wasting most of your time making dinner - a shockingly complicated recipe you had insisted on.
“I'll bring the ingredients, you don't have to worry about anything!”
Pfft, yeah right, now he has to worry about the mess you’re - fine, you both are - making in the kitchen. The floor’s all wet, the sink is overflowing, it’s a literal water park. The recipe wasn’t even halfway done yet.
“You know what, I’m going to get a mop, you can continue with - whatever it is you’re doing.” Hitoshi pinches the bridge of his nose in mock exasperation. You roll your eyes but agree, huffing as you push your sleeves back again.
“By the way, where’s Maomao?”
“Eri took her to a sleepover. Didn’t think she liked that idea much though.”
“Real! Maomao only ever wants to be with you,” you laughed.
“Nah, more like you,” Hitoshi grumbled. “She’s never happy when she’s not there and you are.”
“Mhm, you’re-” You’re cut off by Hitoshi’s unexpected yelp and the clanging coming from the bathroom where he’s gone to go fetch the mop. Dropping whatever you’re holding you rush over there in a panic. “Toshi! Are you okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, that stupid cat took a shit here!”
“Isn’t she toilet trained? Did you step on- Oh god. You stepped on it.”
“Stop laughing at me!”
Even gone the blasted cat still managed to ruin a date. Hitoshi fumed silently.
STEP 4: Still unsuccessful? Try giving them a new friend, as they might be acting out from loneliness.
This particular method, unfortunately, quickly backfired on him.
“Aw look! They’re playing together, Jirou!”
“Huh, didn’t think Sora was capable of playing gently. She nearly gave Kaminari a heart attack jumping at him the other day.”
“Hey! Jirooooouuuuuu!”
“No, wait, Maomao, don’t do that!”
“Sora stop barking so loudly-”
Hitoshi’s overly exaggerated groan is barely heard over the din. His head lolled back, staring up at the sky. “Are we biking or not at this rate?”
Not that anyone heard him. You’re too preoccupied with cooing over Maomao, Jirou and her boyfriend Kaminari Denki trying to get their new puppy to stop eating rocks. It was supposed to be a biking-trip-at-the-park-double-date, for heaven’s sake, how did it spiral into this?
Maomao pawed at his leg. Hitoshi tilted his head back forward to glare half-heartedly at her. “You’re lucky you’re so cute. It’s your fault again.”
He’s even more offended when Maomao opts to sit in YOUR bicycle basket rather than his. Denki’s - traitorous friend that he is - snickering at him before Sora pees on his shoe.
STEP 5: As a last resort, consider punishing the kitten. Do not give them attention in any way. It is called the time out corner for a reason.
“Where’s Maomao?”
“Pay no attention to her.” Hitoshi burrowed deeper into your neck, his tone a request. “She’s being punished right now.”
“…for what?”
“A lot of things.”
“Like?”
“….every time you come she steals your attention. Just let me enjoy this.” Hitoshi’s voice holds the smallest hint of a whine. You mentally stored that away. “She was meowing at the door waiting for you at 3 in the morning!”
You twirl a strand of his purple hair, barely hiding your smirk. Ah, so all along…”Is that bad your cat loves me more than she loves you?”
“I adopted her!”
“Oh my god. You really are jealous of your cat.” You couldn’t help it. You collapsed on your side, crying with mirth. Hitoshi sits up straight, insulted, taking a cushion off the couch to smack you with.
“Stop that! I’m not!”
“Say that again; you’re not even convincing yourself!” Oh god, this made so much sense. You wiped at your streaming eyes, coughing up the last of the laughter. “No wonder you were - I can’t - this is too funny - I thought you were acting a little weird the past fortnight - oh my god -”
“Fine, fine, stop laughing! I was jealous! There, I said it, you happy?”
“But why?” You fondly pulled your dumbass of a boyfriend closer, squishing his cheek. Even sulky he was still cute.
“She keeps interrupting our dates.” Hitoshi’s voice is already muffled by your clothes but his muttering makes it worse.
“…”
“No.”
“….”
“STOP LAUGHING!”
“In all seriousness, Toshi, you could’ve just told me. We’ll remake all the dates without Maomao this time, alright? Swear on my life.” You even hold up a pinky.
His own grudgingly raises and locks it around yours.
“You can let Maomao out of punishment now.”
“Eh, no. She’s actually there because she scratched Aizawa’s car today.”
Alternatively, you could always just tell your girlfriend you’re jealous of the cat because the cat’s jealous of you both. She will immediately rush to reassure you and provide you with the much-craved, long-awaited affection you both had been denied by the cat.
Side effects, however, include providing her and everyone else with enough ammunition to tease you with for the next decade.
“Wait, Hitoshi was jealous of a cat?” Denki’s practically howling. Jirou sniggers quietly. “Does this mean he’s a pus-”
“Stop talking.”
Jirou nods appreciatively. “Now I wish i had mind control when it comes to this idiot.”
Cartman got Mr.Kitty as a pet when he saw her outside at 4 years old. He chased the cat and physically dragged her inside, which prompted her to freak out in the house. Then Cartman fed her cake and begged pretty please with a cherry on top to keep the kitty. Liane has no choice in the matter really so of course they kept the cat. They didn't give her shots or neuter her, they just gave her a bath and fed her cat food and called it a day.
Cartman got Fluffy from the County Fair from winning a pie eating contest. Liane was shocked to see Cartman with yet another animal he wanted to keep. And she can't say no, so Fluffy came home with them. Funny enough she was actually easier to take care of than the cat. They usually fed her scraps. She had a pretty good diet of food that Cartman was supposed to eat but he gave it to her and pretended to eat his veggies so he could have dessert please. He taught Fluffy a couple of tricks like spinning and sitting on command. He even claimed he was gonna take her to the fair just like Wilbur in that Charlottes Web movie. Fun fact for years Cartman was convinced Wilbur was a girl and hated when people corrected him because he's used to thinking about the character a certain way and didn't feel like changing how he watched it.
He loved fluffy to bits but she died due to hereditary health problems. Instead of telling Cartman the piggy was dead she just fell in love with a daddy pig and ran away with him to have sex and babies. Cartman resents Fluffy for being such a whore and leaving him behind. He still cried in bed about it for a couple nights though.
Once Cartman tried to keep a pet frog. On wet mornings when frogs huddled around all the puddles, he and the other 3 tried to catch frogs. All of the frogs they caught always went missing every time they tried, so eventually they just gave up and moved onto something else.
Once Gerald snatched up Mr.Kitty and took her away by force while Cartman was screaming and crying at him to let her go. Later he claimed she wasn't vaccinated so she was dangerous to be around Cartman, but he was also using her for cheesing. Later Kyle helped Cartman steal his cat back and Liane promised they would give the cats shots and gave her neutered. After that Gerald left their cat alone.
When they got Mr.Kitty neutered they discovered that she's is actually intersex. Cartman was extremely extremely happy to have a pet who's just like him. Well not exactly like him but still.
For years he depended on Mr.Kitty to get him through his audio hallucinations and grounding himself. If she didn't wake up then no one is at the door trying to harm him and it's just his head being weird. Petting her is very therapeutic for him and calms him down when he's experiencing big scary emotions. He also liked letting her in his bed so she can be there if he gets a nightmare.
During middle school his cat went missing and he was extremely upset about it. He kept accusing that his girlfriend Heidi is responsible for the cat going missing. The longer she was missing the more he accused Heidi of lying to him, hurting his cat because she resents him and she's an awful person. For two whole weeks Butters helped Cartman search for his cat. His friends also helped but Butters helped the most. One night while he was driving home without Mr.Kitty yet again and realized he's never going to see his cat ever again. He broke into tears while Butters and Stan comforted him. Later Heidi finds him grieving his cat and she tells him he forgives him for getting upset at her and understands he was just stressed and didn't mean it. Cartman didn't apologize at all and let her hug and console him.
After that Cartman didn't own a pet for several several years. When he was in his late 40s and the most depressed he had ever been in his life, his therapist suggested owning a cat to give him a routine to have and help him cope with loneliness. So he adopted a cat and it worked. After awhile he ended up with 9 cats in his house, but then he got his shit together and gave away the ones that had bad relationships with the other cats or didn't enjoy being in his house. Then he was left with four cats. Which was a pretty big improvement but still makes normal people gawk at him. And he kept those cats for a long long time. I haven't thought much about the other three, but I know one of the cats is a three legged cat named Zipper. He was born like that. He's the fastest of the four cats and the most friendly one.
After Cartman passed away from cancer in his early 60s Kyle and Stan the two cats Cartman still had. The cats where very comforting for Kyle since he had a harder time coping with his the loss.
And not a pet headcannon technically but Kyle had a habit of putting cat food and cat nip near Cartman's gave to "keep him company." People give Kyle weird looks when he brings cat food to a graveyard but it makes him happy so he doesn't care.
Dark AU: An idea of how to transition into the Dock scene could be Jaune and Penny go into Vale proper to buy things, Penny gets distracted (pet shop with Betta fish on display perhaps?), notices Jaune isn't around and Sun runs into her while running away. As an apology of sorts Sun helps Penny search for Jaune. Meanwhile Jaune was taken by some faunus on orders if spotted for questioning. (He may not have been revealed as the sole survivor to the public but there are ways to find out for an info broker.) Questioning becomes violent when Jaune gives answers they don't like. Brought to the docks heist to be left behind as an example. Somewhat escapes (Roman/Neo taking pity?) as Penny shows up lasers blazing. Aftermath Jaune gains confidence by saving someone, Penny maybe tells Jaune the truth and Sun eats a banana.
Just an option; if taken change how you like.
Also thanks for listening and for the content!
I like your idea, but I think I know just how to tweak in the way I've been looking for...
-------------------------------------------------
"Do you really have to see the betta fish again?"
"Yes, of course!" Penny replied, walking next to Jaune. She couldn't stop herself from shaking with excitement. Her favorite time of the week was to go to the pet store and look at all the beautiful betta fish on display. This had become routine since her arrival at Beacon a few months ago, and it was one that she and her partner had no intention of breaking. "Oh? It's closed?"
"Looks like it's being renovated." Jaune noted from the sign. Oddly enough, there were still pets in the window, including betta fish. "Kinda weird for these animals to be out here where it's so sunny."
Penny didn't respond. She was too engrossed in the elegant dance of the betta fish darting about in their tanks and bowls. Jaune smiled as her green eyes darted from one fish to another within seconds between them.
"Hey, kid." Jaune turned, seeing a man in a black apron. "You lookin' to buy?"
"Oh, no, just browsing." Jaune waved off, quickly dismissing his excited partner behind him. He swore he heard her neck snap.
"You sure?" The man tilted his head down, brow raised. "Maybe you want a pet? Something to keep you calm? Like a cat?"
"No, no, really, I'm sure, Mister..." Jaune narrowed his eyes on the nametag. "...Leon?"
"Well, if you're sure. But would you like to help feed them? Kinda got a lot and my back's been aching all morning."
At this, Jaune's face lit up. This was his chance to do some good for once, instead of just sitting around and wallowing in his own self-pity at Beacon. And huntsmen did help those in need, right? Jaune gave a nod.
"We'd be happy to help, right, Penny?" He turned to see his partner didn't respond, too engrossed by an especially red and blue fish. "Well, I'd be happy to help." He got closer to his partner. "Hey, Penny? I'm going to help feed some animals. I'll be inside, okay?"
"Mm..." Penny said, though it may not have been in reply to him.
Giving a shrug, Jaune followed the man inside. The inside was warm and dark, with no lights or any kind of air conditioning on. Were the animals really okay in this kind of environment? It didn't seem safe.
"So, uh, where are the animals?" Jaune asked as he entered the room in the back.
"It's faunus!" Everything went loud and dark. All of a sudden, Jaune couldn't feel anything. Not even the throbbing swelling lump on his head.
----------------------------------------------------
"Okay, I think I lost them- ACK!"
Penny fell to her side as a young man was straddled over her. His shirt was unbuttoned and wide open, showing off his toned abs while a golden tail swirled from his torn-up jeans. Penny gave a blink a couple of times before she realized what had happened.
"Oh, excuse me!" She said. "I'm sorry if I was in your way."
"Nah, nah, it's cool." The monkey faunus pulled himself to his feet before lending a hand. Penny took it and quickly rose to stand. "Sorry about that. I was just running away from some, uh..." She scratched his head. "Uh, nevermind. The name's Sun Wukong! What's your name?"
"I am Penny Polendina, and this is... Jaune?" Penny turned, looking around. "Jaune?"
"Is Jaune your pet?"
"He is my assigned partner at Beacon Academy."
"Oh, you're going to Beacon? Same! I'm from Haven Academy!"
"I see! Where is your team?"
"They'll get here eventually. I took the fastest way I knew!"
"You abandoned your team?"
"Ah, they'll understand." Sun waved her off. "So, uh, where'd this Jaune partner or yours go? He ditch ya?"
"He would not ditch me. He could not ditch me."
"Oh..." Sun clicked his cheek. "You guys are like that, huh?"
"He is my partner, and I am his. It is up to me to ensure his mental state does not diminish to critical levels."
"Uh... huh..." Sun walked around. "Well, if you guys are that close, then he probably didn't get far." He pointed to the pet store. "You think he's in here?"
"Unlikely." Penny answered. "The building is being renovated."
"With the door wide open and nobody inside?" Sun entered the building, followed by Penny. "Seems kinda weird, not gonna lie." He sniffed. "Wait." He sniffed again. "Oh no..."
Sun quickly rounded the empty cages to the counter, tossing the door aside. Looking down, he could see a clean floor, but his nose didn't lie. Following it to the closet in the back, he found a person laying inside, unconscious.
"The shopkeeper!" Penny shouted. She swiftly turned and ran for the back room. "Jaune?!"
"Ah, hell..." Sun groaned. "The last thing I'd want is to get the cops involved, but it looks like that's what's gonna happen." Sun picked the phone off the counter but set it down when there was no dial tone. "Lights out, hot as Vacuo, and no phone service? There's a lot wrong with this picture."
"Sun! I have found something!" Sun jumped the counter, running to the back room where Penny stood. The inside looked to be a garage with an open door to the back alley. There were skid marks on the ground and a white flag held aloft in the girl's hands. "I think I know who has Jaune."
On the flag was a familiar red symbol of a beast and claw marks.
----------------------------------------------------
"Where is Jaune now?!" Glynda screamed as she paced the floor of the headmaster's office. "You don't know is not an acceptable answer, Miss Polendina. Jaune Arc is your partner, which means he is your-"
"Glynda!" She flinched, looking to Professor Ozpin. The look on his face was a rare instance of anger. He seldom showed it, which meant it wasn't an emotion to be taken lightly from him. "Hand me the scroll. Focus on finding Jaune from here and ensuring all students are back at Beacon Academy."
"Yes, Headmaster." She gulped, handing over the scroll. "Excuse me, I didn't-"
"You're scared. It's understandable, Glynda." The way he used her first name to calm her down worked, though only a little. "But fear is not what we should be using to respond to this. Now do as you were instructed." With a nod, she left the office, tapping on her personal scroll. "Miss Polendina, this is your headmaster speaking. Remain calm and explain to me what has happened."
Ozpin sat and listened, simultaneously coordinating with police and huntsmen across Vale to find his missing student. This wasn't the first time a student went missing, nor could he hope it would happen be the last. But there was one thing he would do if his power allowed. Jaune Arc would not die. His first years for the current semester may have been single digit numbers, but they would not drop lower than they'd already had.
"Can you determine which direction the tires were going?" He asked, at the same time updating the mission board for the responding huntsmen to read. "Have you contacted the authorities? Are they with you now?" Thankfully, the woman and the animals in the store were alive, though blunt force trauma to the former and heat injuries to the latter hardly constituted as 'and well'. "And you say a student from Haven Academy is present with you?" This would be the most awkward task, since that meant he'd have to explain to Leonardo that one of his students had arrived in Vale months early for the Vytal tournament.
Unfortunately, with all these questions being answered, too many were still left unknown as they appeared. Why was the White Fang in Vale? Why would they kidnap Jaune? And most importantly, where had they taken him?
"Ozpin!" Professor Goodwitch slammed open the door to his office. "We've found him."
----------------------------------------------------
"Good evening, I'm Lisa Lavender. Tonight, for our top story, we have an interview with the student who survived the initiation of the mass student deaths at Beacon Academy, Jaune Arc." She smiled to him. "Thank you for coming to us, Jaune."
"N-No problem." Jaune gulped. When he woke up, men with bone-white masks pointed guns at him and told him to stay where he was. One of them had pointed ears on his head and the other had a tail curled over his belt.
"Now, Mr. Arc, I understand this is a very difficult topic to discuss, but the audience would appreciate if you could tell us what happened to you at Beacon Academy."
"Uh..." He glanced to the side, where the camera was looking right at him, but not as threateningly as the man next to it holding a gun. With a shaky breath, he made the choice to relive that horrible day. "I... I left for Beacon Academy and when I got there, I..." He gave a chuckle. "I threw up in the trash as soon as I got off the bullhead. A little while after, I met a girl who was in a crater. I... I think it was a dust explosion. She... She told me her name was Ruby."
Jaune's throat dried up, but he kept talking because if he stopped talking, what was going to happen? He'd get shot? He'd die? Telling this woman, the people in the room, and if the camera was any indication, the whole world, everyone was listening to him. However, the next part of the story was the worst part.
"I... I watched as Ruby, she..." He swallowed, feeling tears well in his eyes. "She wasn't as old as me, so seeing her like..." He shook his head. "I'm sorry, do I have to keep going?" He looked to the woman with tears spilling from his eyes.
"Only if you want to." She placed a hand on his.
He flinched as the gun racked, reminding him of who was really in charge.
"I-I-I..." He shuddered. "One girl was tossed over the side of the cliff. I listened as she screamed until I couldn't hear her anymore."
"Do you remember who it was?"
"It... It was the girl with the white hair."
"Do you mean Weiss Schnee, the heiress to the Schnee Dust Company?" He nodded. She closed her eyes and shook her head. "A tragedy felt just as tenderly as everyone else who'd perished that day."
He could hear one of the gunmen give a chuckle.
"My partner and the blond girl... I think one of them was Ruby's sister... They... They both died to the big scorpion one."
"The Deathstalker." She nodded. "And your partner was Pyrrha Nikos, wasn't she?"
"Yeah, she... She helped unlock my aura."
"You entered Beacon without your aura unlocked?" She sounded genuinely caught off guard. "What would possess you to do something so dangerous?"
"I..." He sniffed, glad to be away from the topic, if even for a little bit. "I wanted to prove myself. I was a nobody, and I just... I didn't want to be a nobody forever. A disappointment."
"Well, Jaune, I have to say that what you did was, in my personal opinion, the most selfish, stupid thing you could have done." Jaune's eyes widened. "People have dedicated their lives to training and honing their bodies, their skills, their mental fortitudes so that they can protect innocent people from the horrors of the Grimm, and you attended Beacon because you, 'wanted to prove yourself,' if I'm using your words right. People are dead, Jaune, and how exactly did you survive?"
"I... I went into the caves and..."
"And you hid." Lisa venomously spat. "Like a coward. Weiss Schnee is dead, Jaune. Pyrrha Nikos is dead. Ruby is dead. Every single one of those students is dead because you couldn't act. Because you didn't have the training to do what innocent people would be counting on you to do if you did make it as a huntsman." She threw her arms in the air before folding them. "What did you expect to happen, Jaune? That you and these girls would go to the academy, be best friends, and then just spend the rest of your life going on adventures as a huntsman?" She jabbed a finger at him. "The world isn't a fairy tale, Jaune. People fight and die because the Grimm are monsters who won't stop until we're all dead. But you wanted to prove yourself? Well, I think you've proven yourself well enough... as a coward."
Jaune... did nothing. What could he do? He'd just been slandered to people all over Remnant. His parents, his teachers, complete strangers just heard him get broken down by this woman and called a coward for all the tears he shed. And the worst part of it all was that she was right.
Jaune fled with that girl into the caves after the others died. He didn't have any power to stand against those giant monsters those girls died to, and he thought he could come into Beacon at the same level they did. He was a sham, a fraud. Every word said against him was the truth, and he just had to sit there and accept it.
"I'm Lisa Lavender. Thank you for watching."
"And cut!" The world became loud around Jaune as people moved this direction and that, leaving him seated in his chair. Lisa Lavender had already left the room, though not before shaking her head and scoffing in disgust.
"Come on, kid."
Jaune was grabbed by the shoulder and shoved. He looked up and saw the bone-white mask with red marks. Suddenly, the person in the mask didn't look or sound like a person, but like a monster, growling at Jaune as he fell over, kicking himself away across the floor and to the wall. It gave a bellow, roaring at him to no move. Breathing quickened, fingers twitching, Jaune wanted to let out a scream but couldn't figure out how. Fear attracted the Grimm and his body was in a panic, set to remain frozen so he wouldn't be bothered. The Grimm bellowed a chant.
"One! Two! Three!" Light flashed, and Jaune shut his eyes to not see the girl's face. When he opened his eyes, a different girl was looking right at him.
"P...Penny?"
"S-Sal-u-tations, Jaune!" She cheerily replied. "Do you... require assistance?"
"Surrender your weapons!" Another familiar voice called. "You're all under the custody of Vale Huntress Goodwitch!"
"Over here!" A blond boy waved over to the pair.
As they started moving towards him, a gunshot was heard, making Jaune flinch and fall to the floor. He could feel himself sliding before hands grabbed him by his cheeks and green eyes filled his vision. "Jaune, it is okay. I am here!"
"Penny?" He grunted, blinking before shaking his head. "I'm... I'm good. Thank you, Penny." The students met up through the doors, Jaune panting as he leaned against the wall. "Who... Who are you?"
"Name's Sun." He said. "You're Jaune, right? Penny's told me about you."
"Yeah. Did sh-" Jaune stopped as he looked at Penny, who had her back to him. She'd been shot, but where there should have been a wound, or maybe even nothing because of aura, there was an indent in her body. Like bent metal. Jaune's feet gave out under him and he fell into the black again.
----------------------------------------------------
"Heck of a performance you did, Miss Lavender."
"Thank you, Roman." The woman on his scroll said. "And really, thank you for providing me with that interview. I'm sure to get an award for that one."
"Anytime, sweetheart." He grinned. "Your news special was just thing we needed to get these schmucks to look somewhere else tonight."
"Will there be a story for me to report tomorrow?"
"Isn't there always?" He chuckled. "I'll deliver my appreciation with the flowers." With a tap, the call had ended, and Roman reveled at all the dust him and his boys had managed to haul from the docks. Walking out of the warehouse, he lit up his cigar, taking a few puffs. "And they say there's nothing original on the news."
Obey Me Devildom
Tumblr media
*I've always wanted to write about little Fluffy segments on the side about how MC felt in a new place like the Devildom with all these people she should be afraid of but finds an odd sense of belonging.
So this is just my small take on it.*
The Greatest Sorcerer…
"And then there was light..."
Tumblr media
"What are you doing?" Solomon asked curiously from the classroom doorway. I was crouched low behind the notice board in the hallway, looking like I was up to something nefarious.
From his point of view it would look strange, but then stalking wasn't exactly something I was very good at.
"Research."
"I've never seen research been done like that before."
In other circumstances I would agree with him, but then finding out things about Lucifer and his brothers were becoming harder and harder. Especially when I couldn't ask anyone about them without raising suspicion or my own death.
"I'm trying to find out what Lucifer and his brothers enjoy doing." Which so far had paid off just a little bit.
For one thing I knew Lucifer enjoyed music.
Satan adored books and surprisingly cats.
Leviathan enjoyed games as well as anime.
Asmodeus loved anything beautiful, especially flowers.
Beel was easy, he loved food. But then he did sports or anything physical.
Mammon however, was another story altogether.
"I wouldn't have the slightest clue as to what the second oldest is interested in besides money."
"For some odd reason, you look absolutely adorable skulking around like that."
I frowned at him.
"Very funny, Solomon."
"Nevertheless, why don't you ask them yourself?"
I blushed at just the though of it.
"I can't! I don't want to look like I'm trying too hard."
Which I was doing a very poor job at anyway.
"If I could make a suggestion…" Holding his hand out for me to take, I took it cautiously wondering what he was up to. "I think maybe I can be of some help in that direction."
I frowned at him.
"What's the catch?"
He seemed puzzled at my question.
"I only want to help you out."
After observing Solomon for the last few weeks, I realized there was something about him I couldn't quite figure out. As much as I appreciated his company, I had the feeling he was going to collect something in return.
"Well I could use the help."
He looked pleased with himself as he smiled at me.
"Not a problem, I feel like this is going to be an adventure we surely won't forget."
I really didn't like the sound of that.
G/t gaming buddies
(I dont have a better name sorry)
--------------------------------------------------
Mother had always told Arani that she shouldnt swear, but after the week she's been through, it's justified to say it has been utter crap. She had gone through one of the most terrifying situations a borrower could find themself in: moving.
She didnt know when or how she got so careless, but the deeds had already been done. From the human family thinking they got a mice problem and setting traps, to borrowing something she shouldnt have and the humans immediatly noticing it's dissapearance. The pin was old and just laid there for days. How could she have known it had some great familial value? And to rub salt in her wounds, she had to leave in a rushed state, unknowing if she exposed her entire kind. As she was preparing her backpack and beginning to break down her home, one of the electrical covers close to her home opened up. It could've been them looking for mice or the pin, but she didn't want the humans to find her, so she had to run away, completely unprepared, and with VERY little supplies.
Still, she supposes she's had some luck too. For one, the trip to a new home was only an hour or so, and the weather was nice and sunny after what felt like weeks of rain. And no encounters with stray animals, which is a miracle in and of itself. Just thinking of her fate as a cat's toy or dinner filled her mind with severe stress.
It was risky moving into a new home so close to her old one, but "what's one more" she thought bitterly to herself. After making her way into the walls and exploring, she found a nice place where she could set up camp, or who knows, home. Not much of a camp with what she has though: only enough rations to satiate her hunger for today, her hook, some spare clothes...it's not much but...no, no it really isn't. She was about ready to add another risk to the pile by wanting to go out and borrow immediatly for something, anything, until she peered into the house and saw what was to the humans a happy occasion, yet to her, ANOTHER turn of rotten luck. The humans were having a birthday party.
A whole family was gathered around the table to celebrate the birthday of the child at the head of the table. Arani was lucky enough to be able to read and saw she was turning 15, so around her age....if she remembers correctly. It didn't look like it would end anytime soon, so she begrudgingly took the opportunity to think of what she would need first, and where to find it all, what rooms where nearest when she would go borrowing. She blocked out most of what the humans were saying, up until she noticed what she assumes to be the girl's mother pull out a big, wrapped box and put it on the table.
"I'm afraid we only really have one big gift for you this year Lucy, but all of us chipped in for it. Assuming from your friends, we know you'll enjoy it though!" said the human mother while hugging and kissing the birthday girl, Lucy, on her head.
After Lucy carefully unwrapped her present, Arani spotted that it was....a VCR? At least, it LOOKED like one, recalling the days she would sneakily watch along movies in her previous house. The video tapes were much stranger however, a bit more squarish, had more art on the front instead of just a name. The "VCR" also came with two strange rectangles with a few buttons on it. She REALLY didn't understand human technology, it was all too complicated for her...but intriguing nonetheless.
After cake and most of the humans leaving, Lucy and her parents installed the machine in the living room, connecting several wires and inserted one of the tapes and pushed the "POWER" button. What played wasn't a movie however, at the least, not any kind Arani had seen anyway. It wasn't realistic or cartoony but...blocky? What perplexed her most is that Lucy was pressing buttons on the rectengular remote, at the same time certain actions in the "movie" happened. Was...was she CONTROLLING the movie? Is it even a movie??
Arani waited and looked several more hours in confusion, as day turned to night. The human family were saying their goodnights to each other and going upstairs, presumably to bed. She waited several more minutes in the safety of the walls to make sure nobody would be coming back. It's time. Ready or not, stressed or not, WILLING or not, she had to go out and gather supplies.
Leaving the safety of the walls through the electrical cover she used all day to spy on the human family, she first decided to make her way to the kitchen. While making her trek over yonder, she passed by the odd machine. Her gaze was stuck on it for a whole minute, wondering what was up with it. She could almost feel as if it was calling her name, begging her to find out what mysteries it holds. Still, she had priorities and continued her borrowing trip.
After a few hours, Arani gathered what should be enough for now. It wasn't a bunch, but she would just have to borrow several days in a row, risk be damned. It was a sad and frightening necessity. While making the last walk back to the electrical cover with an old, lonely sock, she passed by the machine once again, her eyes once more glued to it. She thought back to the humans sitting around it together, smiling, not a care in the world. It made Arani all the more sad. She's just gone through one of the harder weeks of her life and still has many more stressing factors on her mind. She couldn't take it anymore, she needed some form of release. And thus came the biggest "what's one more risk" to the pile.
She crawled up on the TV's cabinet, pressed the on button with the volume down to a whopping 1, made her way to the machine, and anxiously pressed the "POWER" button with all her might. In an instant, a picture came on screen, but it merely stood still. Nothing happened, not until Arani grabbed one of the rectangles the humans used and tried pushing several of the buttons, finally doing something with "START". Music started playing, and after a little experimentation, the little guy on screen started moving around as she pushed the right buttons. Pushing one made him jump, and holding another made him run. It took a lot of trial and error, but eventually she figured out how to make everything work together and get to a large pole with a flag, which then transitioned to a whole new screen.
Arani was fascinated. She's never known of humans using technology like this. Most importantly, she felt calm. She felt herself having fun. Sure, she has fun with several day to day activities like sewing or climbing, but this was a whole new kind, not related to survival. She didnt know how much time had passed when she reached a place called "5-3", but she was still completely enamored. She dared to say she started to get good at this. For a little while, all other worries drowned out of her mind. She didn't have to focus on anything. She didn't hear the owls hooting outside, she didn't hear the ticking of the clock on the wall, and for just a second, she didn't hear the creaking of steps on the wooden stairs. And by the time she did register it, it was all too late. The hair standing up, she turned her head around slowly, and afterwards immediatly stumbled back, only focussing on the massive blue eyes above her. Moving is one of the most terrifying things a borrower could do. Being spotted, was the absolute worst.
Lucy was awake, and was staring down at Arani with confusion. It felt like she was pinning her down with her gaze alone, making her legs tremble and not be able to stand back up and run. She had been careless, her luck had finally run out, and now she was going to pay the price.
Lucy inhaled, ready to speak, until she looked at the TV being on, and what she was doing. Then, whatever she was about to say, seemingly got overridden with another more important, burning question
"W-how did you get to that level already?! Thats so far! And with 2 lives still left?" She said in a whispery tone, looking in awe and excited, smiling wide. Whatever Arani expected, it was not...this. it didnt help the shivering though. Even if she did want to speak, she couldn't, as if there was something in her throat.
"You must be good...can I watch? Didn't mean to interrupt you playing anyway, sorry about that." She continued while slowly sitting down cross legged, a good end away from Arani. She could take the opportunity to run away, run anywhere, but she felt that would just result in a game of cat and mouse. Feeling threatened, she stumbled slowly back to continue but in her stress and gaze fiwating on the human, he immediatly made the man on screen fall down a pit, losing a life
"...performance anxiety huh? Yeah no worries I get that completely. Especially during class presentations. I swear, I could be a master at my craft and still stumble on my opening line" Lucy said as if there was nothing extraordinary about the whole situation. In a way, it did calm Arani in the littlest, absolute LITTLEST way. No huge questions, no grabbing, no anger, no stomping, just....chatting. As the screen lit up again, ready to play, Lucy shot Arani a thumbs up and a smile, encouraging her. Now, being able to focus a little better, she completed the level and looked back at Lucy, mind still filled with a ton of insecurities.
"Nice! Have you done this a lot? Not even my friend got this far yet" Lucy said. And finally, somehow, Arani's voice returned to her.
"Umm....n-n-no. First...time. I-I'm sorry!" She couldnt help but apologize. Its something she did a lot when incredibly nervous.
"Woah, hey no no worries, you're all good! For what anyway, playing? Dont be, if you wanna use it, it's all yours. Beside...it might be fun to play with someone else?" Lucy said a bit uncertain. Was she really proposing the two of them playing together, human and borrower?
"My name's Lucy by the way. Sorry, didn't introduce myself yet, where are my manners, blegh. Do you have one?" She asked while sticking out her pinkie and bringing it closer to Arani. It made her stumble back a few steps, but she was able to compose herself again. She knew her name, but she wasn't going to bring that up. There was enough on her mind already.
"I...I do. It's...it's Arani" she said while awkwardly and quickly tapping the tip of Lucy's pinkie, pulling back her arm immediatly as if she touched something hot.
"Arani.....never heard a name like that before, thats so cool!" There was a minute of silence between the two until Lucy looked back at the clock.
"Hmm, it's still pretty late. I shouldnt even be up anyway. Im gonna go back to bed, feel free to continue, but please turn everything back off once you're done. And uh...can I...can we see each other again? Yknow, doing something like this or, argh" Lucy was stumbling over her words, incredibly anxious now all of a sudden. It brought a small chuckle to Arani, and she just wasn't able to reject her offer.
"I...think I'd like that actually...t-thank you" she added with the faintest of smiles. Lucy nodded excitedly to this, waved goodbye and headed back up, leavinfg Arani in utter confusion and hr heart pounding out of her chest.
She has no idea what just happened, or why she's still alive to begin with, but strangest of all, she felt...somewhat relaxed? Not a ton, but she didnt feel like she did when arriving in this new house. This human was different. She didnt ask anything too revealing about her and didnt even seem to register her size difference!
Still, she continued to play for a few minutes before going back to the walls, wanting to see Lucy again in the nearby future.
--------------------------------------------------
(This was a dumb thing I wanted to write for a few weeks now. Old story with old OC's I had in my head of just, 2 gamer pals, one of them being a borrower. Im really sorry if this is cringe or bad or anything, but thank you for reading)
HOUSE M.D × WarriorCats
FelidaeMD is yet another crossover between HouseMD and WarriorCats, where I will be actively rewriting the series, along with adjusting it to fit the warriors series.
This is a remaster post for the designs that I created before, and overall I might make a fic for this AU, but no promises! Anyone is free to use these designs for unrelated things or for their own stories and AUs.
Designs + info under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LINENCURL - LINENSTAR ( Cuddy )
Norwegian-Forest-Cat based! I took inspiration off of a sheep, because of her bangs within the show always reminded me of one.. and idk she has sheep vibes. She also has extra toes on one of her front paws! No reason, just cuz I thought it'd be cool.
JASPERWREN ( Wilson )
Based on an American-Curl +a little heart-like dot on his face! He's the Mediator of the clan they're within, cuz I thought it'd be fitting. More wavy-ish fur.
HARSHGUST ( House )
He's a Cornish-Rex mix. I saw this in a certain Warriors-AU and really liked it, but I can't remember the goddamned name of it (going feral rn). Either way, credits to them! One of his front claws is declawed, just for some detail, and he is the main medicine cat of the clan. Also! Cats, and many animals, can get blood clots and things like that, so it's the same thing that fucked up his leg. No monster or anything like that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
EVERGREENFALL ( Foreman )
I really love his design.. idk why.. he's a Burmese mix, and yeah! He's another medicine cat that House mentored, and stuff like that. Simple. Idk I just love drawing him too!! Also! Extra toes like Cuddy, cuz after all, he does replace her.
AIRYCHIRP ( Cameron )
A Somali! I couldn't decide if I wanted to lean blonde or brown, cuz I think of both when I see her... but I thought an in-between would fit better. I love her chronically sad look... she's so funky...
RAVENCOIL ( Chase )
A marbled Bengal. He didn't change much... as u can tell. It's just him. Same paws / tail being a lighter color as House, following in his paw steps and stuff.... idk. he.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
REEDHAIL ( Thirteen )
No real reasoning in her design! I decided on a rex mix with other stuff in there cuz I thought her being a mix was more fitting, is all. (I think the rex part came to me from the same au as the house-rex thing, but I can't remember! sry!!)
VASTAMBER ( Amber )
Her design came easily to me. I saw it since day one, as a simple wirehair cat. It just immediately came to mind. This graceful, golden wirehair who just always looks so.. oddly relaxed.
COLDTAIL ( Taub )
Scottish fold was so obvious.. and also from the same one as House/13, I believe? Idk I just thought it was rlly fitting! I wish I could've gone further with his design, but overall, it's Taub. I think it matches him well enough! itty bitty guy....
LYREKRILL ( Kutner )
Kutner was either gonna be a snowshoe or Siamese, and I thought Siamese fit better, so here he is! I rlly like how simple he is, and Siamese are honestly some of my favorite cats so obv I like him... if only he stuck around for longer. But he definitely made his impact on the show.
Since I cannot add anymore images (yes, very unfortunate) and Vogler / Tritter didn't change designs one bit, they won't be in this post. I'll post them later on probably, but yeah.
They did get clean refs tho.
In a Heartbeat
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hirugami Sachiro x reader
Warnings: Angst, Comfort, a few spoilers in his past.
Note: My mind is very jumbled when I wrote this but I hope you all still can understand. This is part 2 of my "The Consequences of my Ignorance" but in Hirugami's Perspective. Hope you enjoy it!
_____________________________
It was late evening during our time in Tokyo for a National Tournament held in March.
The night I went outside to take fresh air, because the pressure of winning started to overwhelm me even though I am not the one playing in the court.
It was the time I realized how truly suffocating volleyball is.
That thought was immediately cut off when my eyes caught a silhouette of a woman sitting at the entryway of the stadium.
I looked around and noticed she was alone, wearing a familiar uniform of Inarizaki Highschool.
The closer I walked to her, I heard the faint sound of kittens that made me finally notice a litter of it around her.
I took one when it approached me and in a second, she looked behind her that connected our gazes at each other.
"Good Evening, do you mind If I join you?" I smiled at her so she nodded that made me sit beside her and finally realized she is feeding a smaller kitten compared to the few I saw.
We sat in silence as I played with the other kittens.
"You're one of Kamomedai's middle blockers" I was about to start a conversation when she suddenly spoke up first.
"Yes, I guess you're one of the Inarizaki supporters. They have a match right now" I informed her while I look down at a kitten that playfully bit my thumb.
"They can handle that"
I looked at her who was gently putting a kitten to sleep while covering it with her jacket.
It was an adorable sight to see.
"You seem to be fond of cats" I decided to change the topic when I realized that talking about volleyball is something she doesn't want to talk about.
And I am glad.
"Yes, so badly that I wanted to study at Nekoma" she took another kitten to feed when the previous one finally fell asleep.
"Then why didn't you?"
I saw a flash of sadness in her eyes as she made a new bottle of milk for the kitten.
"Because I don't want to be lonely"
She chose to look at me as she gave me a light hearted smile.
"Playing volleyball seems nice isn't it? It's a sport where you know you will have someone. You will never get lonely" she said, followed by a sigh.
"Yet I can't fall in love with the sport" she looks ahead of us as I didn't remove my gaze on her side view.
It seems like she has something in mind that she wants to let out.
With a buzzing stadium filled with excitement and happiness. A peaceful air where you can state your worry is something I didn't ask for but my mind badly needed it.
"I don't understand why anyone would put their hearts and mind in a sport that can make you question your worth, make you feel not good enough at all." She stated as I heard the kitten she is taking care of, purr in content as she continues caressing the little animal.
"With thought in mind, I wonder if everyone who plays volleyball really loves it or just plays the sport because that's where they are talented. That's where they are gifted." She continued speaking her thoughts out that made me lift a small smile.
With just one encounter, she expressed herself to a complete stranger.
"Why did Hirugami start playing volleyball? Is it because you need to be like your family? Or is it because you really love the sport like they do? Is it for self-validation or passion? Those are the thoughts that I heard from other people" I chuckled when I heard her talk about my life.
Questions where I already have my answers. The view of others is not technically wrong.
I played volleyball because that's where my family is good at, because I was gifted with the talent that I can use in the sport.
It was to prove to myself that I am worthy to be part of that successful family. A talent that can prove I am indeed a Hirugami.
Yet those questions reminded me of how cruel I was with myself before.
It was me who pressured myself back then.
"I don't love volleyball. With that sentence, I'm sure those three questions are already answered" I saw how her hands stop caressing the kitten who seems to be dozing off already.
"Do you hate volleyball?"
"Not really. But I don't love it like those said prodigies" I told her as I removed my jacket to make a nest for the kittens that are already starting to sleep.
"Let me take them" I cut the topic about volleyball as I gently took the sleeping ones to the nest so she can move easily without waking them up.
I never saw someone this gentle with animals.
And I know how soft I can get for those types of people.
"So you are playing to be with them?" It seemed like a question but we both knew that we were aware of the answer to it.
"Yes, if a person doesn't love volleyball, there can be another reason like friends and hobbies. You don't always need to love it for you to do it" I look at the litter of sleeping kittens that warmed my heart a little.
I love animals the most. And seeing her take care of them with great care and gentleness, made an unknown emotion stirred in my heart.
It was the moment I started to admire her.
"If you don't love volleyball, why did you travel all the way to Hyogo just to support them? When I feel like you know they will win?" It was time to know her.
And I was thankful I questioned her.
"My boyfriend is playing, that's why"
Thankful because I already knew the answer if I tried to get a closer bond with her.
It was a reminder to never hope anymore. That I can only have this woman as a friend.
Nothing more than that.
"Then why are you not there?" Questions continue to appear in my mind and it seems like my second question brought back the sad gaze I first saw in her eyes.
"Because my presence wouldn't change anything. I don't see any worth watching him play"
"But that's your boyfriend"
"And? I don't need to always support him" she cut me off immediately that made me press my lips to a line.
I don't want to push her to her limits.
It can be a reason why she wants to be alone outside the stadium to think her mind through it.
"Since he was never there for me anyway"
Like a challenge she can't get over with.
"I tried to be a better partner so he can give me the attention I need. But no matter how hard I tried, it will just be a temporary feeling of admiration." She continued as I saw how her eyes started to get glossy under the moonlight.
"The feeling of everyone's pity gazes scared me. Because my nightmare became a reality" she chuckled as she look away to not show how a tear fell on her eyes.
"It feels like everyone got tired of me"
"Because of his actions, my mind became my own enemy. I started to hate myself, push myself to my limits just so I can catch up with him" she breathlessly muttered before she laid on the concrete floor beside the place where I put my jacket with sleeping kittens on it.
My eyes followed her movement as she gaze at sky above us.
"But thinking right now, it feels like it was alright to be lonely. The time where I feel like I can finally understand the world around me."
"The time where I comforted myself because no one is there to do it for me. That even I expressed the pain in the presence of a stranger" she lifted a small smile.
"It was stupid but refreshing"
It was the moment that made me feel miserable. Because no one came to her life just to save her.
One of the moments where I became thankful that Korai chose to approach me when I reached my breaking point.
If it weren't for him lending his presence to talk to me, I wouldn't have made it.
He unknowingly became the person who help me get through it when I feel like I am drowning.
When I already started break, he is the one who rescued me.
"I berated myself because I thought I failed in volleyball." That made me want to open myself like she did.
Because she chose to trust me.
There were no underlying intention about it, I just simply want to help her get through it like I did.
If I am saved, why can't she?
"Until he arrive to my life and gave me a choice whether to stay or leave. Because no matter what I chose, myself is the most important thing"
Our gaze met again and I felt how my heart warmed with the thought of how we look right now.
Of how we interact right now.
"If you're tired, you can rest. If you don't want to stay, you can leave. You don't always need to adjust for the sake of others" I told her as I lent her my scarf when I noticed how her lips started to tremble.
"Hearing your thoughts, you are really tired of trying to understand the world around you. Creating more complicated decisions for you to choose."
Being alone is the only way where she can clear her thoughts.
With animals around her, they unknowingly became her home.
And it was a sight I don't want to see when I look at her.
"You know, taking a break is not wrong. Because if you didn't, the more you move forward with your situation right now, sooner or later, you will break too and it would be harder to pull through"
"Choosing to cherish yourself is better than losing who you are for somebody else" I move closer to her until I am beside her.
"Don't you think?" I suddenly felt her body close to mine as I felt her tears fall on my shoulder that made my eyes glossy too.
"We would be strangers after this. So feel free to let yourself out."
Because I would sure stay to hear you out.
It was wrong. Letting her seek comfort with another man when she is in a relationship.
But at this time, no one is willing to listen other than me, a person who doesn't know the things she is getting through.
It's for the better, because after this, we would be strangers. Strangers who are aware of the past we have gone through.
We were strangers who went through the same thing.
And that made my heart feel closer to hers.
That I hope there will be more memories of us after this night.
Because I started to want to be beside her. Just so she can have a person to run to.
Even if it feels wrong with our status.
Time passed by and I found her sleeping on my shoulder that lifted a small smile on my lips.
"Oi Hirugami" Followed by my friend's voice that made me look behind us and saw my team, especially the bewilderment look in Korai's face.
"You-" our captain immediately put his hand over my loud friend's mouth before he woke up the woman peacefully sleeping on me.
"Would you go back to the hotel with us?" The captain asked, that made me chuckle and shook my head.
"We'll head first then, call us when you arrive at the lobby"
I nod before he push my friend who was still processing the scene before throwing a look at me that made me playfully wink at him.
I don't want this moment to end yet. But moments like this tend to be shorter than how I wanted.
I gently shake the woman that made her stirred awake.
"Let's go back to your hotel now. You might get sick the longer we stay here" she nod in her drowsy state before I slowly put the kittens in my back as she fixed her hair.
She chose to walk towards her hotel, as I observed how she tried to stay warm in her clothing that put a smile on my lips.
We stop by in a shop for a while to buy a basket for the kittens to sleep in. Yet she stepped outside with a warm coffee in hand.
She silently gave me the cups before gently transferring the kitten from my bag to the basket she bought, where she already placed a soft cloth.
The longer I watched her be gentle to other creatures, the more I felt these forbidden feelings turned bigger.
Liking her is not hard at all.
And I silently yearn for our next meeting when she finally disappears from my sight after giving me a thankful smile.
I arrived back at the hotel our team was staying at with a coffee in hand.
The moment I entered the room, the team sitting in the living room was the one that greeted me with a mumbling Korai who seemed to be cursing me under his breath.
"Who was that?" He asked me immediately as I removed my jacket before taking a sip of coffee.
She has great taste.
"I didn't get her name"
"What?" He seemed to get more irritated at my answer that made me shrug my shoulder before taking a seat in the last seat in the room.
"Having a moment under the moon it's closer to romantic. I doubt you don't know her" a senior of mine teased that made me chuckle at him.
"We are really strangers. I approached her because she is taking care of some kittens"
"Typical Hirugami"
"One way to Hirugami's heart is through animals" they joked but I know that she really took my heart with her.
Because of that one encounter, I fell in love with her.
No matter how forbidden it feels like.
I closed my eyes when my mind started getting worked up again.
After this, she will want to act like nothing happened between the two of us, like we didn't open our past to each other.
And I would gladly oblige even though I'm against it.
But my heart chose to look for her in the audience, my eyes lingering longer than they should be.
Until looking for her started to become my habit. And my heart will feel warmed when my eyes meet hers.
If she can be mine, I would never feel so lost than before.
Because of her, I started to question myself again. Maybe it was fate that she stole my heart.
It made me hope that our encounters have something to bring in my life.
Even a slight sign that she will become someone to my life, instead of just entering my mind.
I gave a smile before she looked away.
Strangers...
I need to always remind myself what I need to think of her. A word that tells me to not go further.
An encounter that shouldn't be focused on.
But I can't promise myself that.
Especially when her break up with Inarizaki's setter reaches my ears.
It comforted my heart knowing she began to choose herself. But I know I seriously need to give the space she needs so she can move on.
So I prevent myself from looking for her. Until her ex confronted me in the middle of the match.
"I lost to you again and I hate it"
Then I began to realize that she somehow mentioned me. No wonder he started to target me and my feet finally got injured because I couldn't keep up on the pressure he was giving me.
"How annoying" Korai clicked his tongue as I hissed when the manager put pressure on my sprain.
It happened when I landed on a bad footing after receiving his supposed to be jump float serve yet turn it into a jump serve.
I was lucky to not get myself injured but it threw me off guard.
And it sucked that she was the reason that made this happen.
If Atsumu only know that my love for his ex is one-sided. He might have lessen his jealousy to me.
I sighed to calm myself down when my team decided to bench me out which what Korai hated but he knew that if I keep playing, it will be worse than now.
"Goodluck" I wave off the incident knowing the man is going through something.
Targeting in a sport is normal. I can't even avoid it.
I watched my team lose against Inarizaki that stirred a feeling within me but I know this is destiny.
Since he is the one who ended up crying even though they won.
So it's 50-50 I guess.
"Let's go back here in Spring interhigh" I told them when they approached me on the sidelines with some who have glossy eyes.
I knew how big my role was in the team.
I already know the outcome if I ever get injured.
But right now, we need to accept the loss.
I watched my team eat in the restaurant until I felt something nudging my injured ankle that made me look below the table and saw a familiar kitten I took care of with her.
I took the small feline and my eyes immediately looked for her figure and saw she was already looking at me from the corner.
I excused myself from the team before I headed towards her table and stopped beside it.
"Would you mind me joining you?"
She hummed so I decided to sit in front of her and my attention went to the kittens snuggling in the basket.
"Are you planning to keep them?" I started the conversation as she took a sip of her drink before looking over at the kittens.
"Maybe..." She muttered before leaning on her seat that made me focus my attention on her.
"What is it?" I went straight to the point and sent a smile in her direction. I noticed a small faint blush in her cheeks that made my smile bigger.
"You don't need to apologize for something you didn't do" I cut her off when she seems like she is going to apologize for the things that happened a while ago in the match.
Her face turned sullen and made me smile when I read her mind.
"It was my fault for mentioning your name. I shouldn't have said that to him" she looked down on embarrassment as I nod.
But I think it's better to mention that to him. Because an untold story can be viewed differently if it weren't revealed immediately.
"It's fine"
"But he injured you" she muttered before slapping a hand on her forehead.
"It's normal in a match. We shouldn't blame anyone for it"
I don't want to blame herself again for a slight moment of losing control over their emotions.
I took a hold of her hand over the table that made her look up to me.
"It's alright. Don't hate yourself because I won't forgive you for that" I squeezed her hands that made her nod before I let go and started playing with the cats.
"What's your name? I never got to ask you" I ask her as the kitten I'm holding my head on my cheek.
"Y/n" she whispered that lifted a small smile on my lips.
"This made us acquaintances, right?"
Even if I need to start slowly. Even if I need to start at the very beginning. I'm willing.
Because it was for her.
I don't want to lose her like he did. I wanted her more than anybody did.
I would never meet someone like her who made me fall in love at first sight that I once thought never existed.
But because of her, I'm willing to give effort to the emotions called 'love'.
I did everything just to keep in contact with her, even at a far distance.
Even creating a schedule on when I can disturb her just so we won't lose touch with each other.
It was easier when she chose to spend time with me so she could move on. At least even in call, the presence still help her feel like she was not alone.
Even if we need to go through the phase of friendship. Even if it take two years maximum, I'll do my best so she can learn to love me too.
Despite of her fear on love because of her first time, I'm willing to repeat the same words all over again.
Willing to travel the country with just one call. Willing to do something I haven't done before because she loves it.
Even if I start at the beginning, I'll make sure our ending is the one I wanted.
The last day of my first year in Spring interhigh.
Is the beginning of my story...
Where I met my first love
The date you were on the other night was disappointing - but the food was great! For some reason though, a chef from the restaurant took an interest in you. After crashing your date, he realised you were living right next to him all this time - and vows to court you until you're his! In this chapter, Sanji will bring your hungover ass some delicious breakfast and you'll get to know him (and his lips) a little better
Saturday morning. You woke up late, two glasses of wine really did knock you out, how pathetic. In uni, you could easily have double that and not even noticed. Sleepy and with a light headache, you check your phone - no message from Thomas. So he didn't like the date, either. No surprises there. Still stung.
You peeled out of your blanked for your morning ritual: a cigarette and coffee on the balcony. You caught your reflection in the mirror: yup, looking tired as fuck. Bags under your eyes, hair like a bird's nest and the general vibe of something that had existed for too long at the bottom of a handbag. Enough to scare the shit out of the judgy older lady from across the street when she would see you. It were the small things that made you happy.
You shuffled to your kitchen where you made a horrible discovery: Coffee was empty. Even scraping at the bottom of the tin can didn't produce enough for a cup, so you grumpily slipped into your fluffy robe, grabbed the pack of cigarettes and shuffled on to your small city balcony.
You lit one and watched the people on the street: an old lady with a cute dog, they were often walking by, so adorable. Joggers. Should do that, too. Sometimes. Not now. Woman on bike, looking fab. Damn, I should buy some of those workout pants, too. They look comfy! Hot blond guy with shopping bags, waving at someone. He looks like a snack. Cute cat yawning. Should get a fuckton of tho- wait a minute, you knew that guy. That was Sanji from yesterday.
Yet another cigarette became the victim of slack jawed staring between the two of you, sailing down to the street two stories below. Poor thing.
"Hey princess, I brought you coffee! On the house!" He shouted, grinning from ear to ear. "I got breakfast, too!" He had the inflection of someone luring an animal using treats. It worked well.
Your caffeine deprived brain couldn't fathom what was happening down there: the cook strolled towards the building and you lost sight of him. Shortly afterwards you heard a knock on your door. You ran inside to look through the peephole in the door.
What the fuck.
"Hey princess, I didn't know what you liked so I brought the classics!" his cheery voice could clearly be heard through the door and you saw his clear, blue eyes looking directly through the peephole in a fish-eye perspective.
"Can we maybe start at...WHY ARE YOU HERE? HOW?" You screamed at the door.
"I saw that you lived here, too! What a coincidence ! I just wanted to apologise for yesterday. Please let me make breakfast for you!" His muffled voice from behind the door sounded excited and way too cheery for this hour.
You listened to true crime, you were half sure that the guy was a crazy murderer, killing lonely women and possibly cooking them. But there was also a strong dependency on coffee and you were sure that you wouldn't make it to the supermarket in your state.
And it would be rude to refuse his offer. You removed the doorchain, unlocking the door. Sanji stood there with the widest, happiest grin you have ever seen, holding up a shopping bag full of groceries and with a duffle bag strapped around his shoulder. He was wearing fine pants and shoes and a very comfortable looking hoodie. The moment his eyes caught your sight they lit up with delight and a flow of barely discernible syllables bubbled from his mouth.
"There you are JUST LIKE I REMEMBER I will make you the best breakfast OF YOUR LIFE ❤❤❤" he mumbled like an old lady talking to her kitty cat. This weirdo was definitely not feeling dangerous enough to be a murderer. You stepped to the side. He moved past you into your apartment, looking around with open interest.
"How cozy! I love that chair - oh I know that book! Wow you have lots of plants, I somehow cannot keep them alive." He looked around like a tourist in the middle of a historic little town, slowly making his way towards your kitchenette.
"Uhm, it's not much, and it's not exactly cleaned up..." you apologised. Surely he was used to grade A equipment.
"It's fine, I have the same one, our apartments are quite similar." He explained, not showing the slightest sign of shock over your dirty little kitchen. "Besides, I brought some stuff." He sat the duffel bag down.
Humming to himself, he began unpacking and cleaning simultaneously like it was the most normal thing for him to operate in your kitchen. Dazzled, you fell into your comfy armchair and watched that tall, slender and overall handsome guy in your kitchen. He unpacked various ingredients and began rummaging through your cupboards, eventually finding a bowl and beginning to mix something. He even made a little show of flipping bottles around in his hand like a bartender or cracking eggs open with one hand. You felt a bit useless.
"Can I help...?" You asked, unsure of what you could even do.
"No, need. I'm cooking for you!" He turned around with a wink.
"Oh...ok." you said, getting up, feeling your headache again.
"I'm gonna...take shower" you decided and went to your small bath.
"Yes take your time! I'll call you when it's time to eat" he assured you.
Getting into the shower stall, your body slowly woke up. The hot water and flowery scent of your soap relaxed and refreshed you, soothed the ache in your head. Haven't had a man in here in...four years? And a handsome one at that. How strange. The realization of what was happening in your apartment at this moment was hitting differently now that you've awakened.
There is a hot guy. In my apartment. He's cooking breakfast for me.
Fuck, I look like shit. Fuckfuck! You decided to put as much effort into this as you dared. Quite frankly, you were out of practice. You washed your hair with the special expensive shampoo you once bought and never really used, you tried to peel and moisturize your face like you wanted to every day, and you put on a light perfume, that also just sat there for special occasions like today.
You snuck to your wardrobe in the bedroom. Outfit - what do you wear to a spontaneous breakfast with a guy who wears business casual on a saturday morning? A Blazer and blouse? The dress you wore to your sisters wedding? Standing in front of your wardrobe, you noticed that it was much too full but you still had nothing to wear.
You reminded yourself that he had already seen you at your (almost) worst, everything was an improvement. Deciding on a casual outfit, you grabbed a shirt and a pair of slacks and peaked into your living room/ kitchenette. Sanji had a towel over his shoulder, whistling as he cut a vanilla bean open. You came to stand next to him at the counter to look what he was doing. His sleeves were rolled up and he wore a black apron.
"Hey princess, there you are!" He greeted you as he took some cream out of the shopping bag and put it on the counter.
"Do you have to call me princess all the time?" You asked. "It's kind of making me uncomfortable."
"If you don't like it, I'll stop, mademoiselle" he told you with a wink. You rolled your eyes at him and he chuckled.
"Do you have something like a whisk?" he asked even though he already had a look around your kitchen.
You pointed to a cupboard above you.
"Thank you, mademoiselle" he said and smiled at you. As he moved to open it, you became once again aware of how tall he was. He reached over your head, getting extremely close and you caught the scent of his cologne.
He took out the kitchen utensil and began whisking the vanilla in a bowl together with sugar and the fresh vanilla. It was fascinating to watch his practiced movements and his joy while cooking.
He reached into his bag again and set a device made of metal on the counter, shaped like a bottle but with a few applications. You knew that thing from that one cooking show, but the name eluded you.
"Know what that is?" Sanji asked when he saw you staring.
"Of course" you say with your most confident voice, "that's a cream whipping thingy" you concluded.
He laughed from the bottom of his heart.
"Exactly! I'll have to tell my colleagues at the baratie about it's new name." He joked while he filled the device of unknown designation with the cream and screwed it shut.
"You know you can also use it for soup" he explained as he put it into your empty refrigerator.
"A whipped cream soup?" You asked and Sanji laughed again. His happiness was infectious.
"I'll show you another time." He promised as he started to prepare coffee beans with a small hand operated grinder. Another time? He was planning other times already?
"So, since you were on a date just yesterday I'm guessing you don't have a boyfriend? Or girlfriend?" He tried to ask casually, but his eyes were darting nervously as he spoke.
"No, I don't" you honestly answered and heard him exhale with relief.
"I bet the guys are all crazy about you!" He mused, watching your reaction. You snorted at that.
"Yeah, so crazy they're all running away" you commented, trying not to sound bitter and failing spectacularly. You added: "seriously, I think I am not made for dating. They all want to be 'just friends', guess I am that type of girl."
"Good to know that other men have no taste in women." He said happily. "Makes it easier for me" he continued. He cooked coffee now, pouring the hot water carefully over the powder. It smelled delicious. While the water turned into precious coffee he began setting the table. You were already reaching for the coffee pot like the junky you were when he caught your wrist. Even his hand felt soft.
"It's not done yet! I'll serve it to you when it's perfect to drink" he told you, turning your hand around in his and breathing the faintest kiss onto your wrist, causing you to blush violently.
"Just sit down while I add some finishing touches. You must be so hungry" he mused.
You wandered back to your comfy armchair on shaky legs, the tingle of his touch still fresh on your skin, looking at the beautiful cook working his magic in your tiny kitchen. When he began to set the table, you were still baffled by the variety and professional look of the foods.
There where beautifully decorated crepes with fruit and whipped cream, a steaming pot of delicious smelling coffee, bread slices surrounded by what looked like home made, savory spreads, fresh orange juice and some cooked eggs. It looked perfect and smelled like heaven. You took out your phone and made a picture to send it to your friend Chrissy to show off.
"Am I already making it to your Instagram? I feel honored" You heard him behind you as he peeked shamelessly into your phone, almost resting his chin on your shoulder.
"But let's not just look, let's eat." He waited behind a chair for you and pushed it to the table before he sat down himself, spinning the chair around and sitting down backwards, with his hands and head resting on top of the backrest.
You didn't know what you expected, but you were overwhelmed. "Uhm, why are you doing this again?" You asked insecurely - the best your ex ever managed was toast and marmalade.
"A beautiful lady deserves to be pampered" he answered in a serious tone. "Besides, I kind of lost my temper yesterday and crashed your date" he didn't seem sorry, in fact he grinned when he said it.
"So enjoy! I cooked up a luxury breakfast for you." His blue eyes sparkled with anticipation as you carefully loaded the crepe onto your plate, destroying the small masterpiece somewhat. You were normally not one to have breakfast, but the appetizing smell got you hungry.
The crepe was soft and warm, the cream tasted like vanilla with a hint of cinnamon. Its texture was perfect: creamy and fluffy, slightly buttery. It was perfectly balanced with the fresh, sour taste of the fruits. You could have moaned it was so good!
Ping
Ping
Ping
The constant ping of a cell phone was distracting you from the taste orgasm you were having. Opening your eyes, you saw Sanji, leaning on the backrest, staring at you with hooded eyes and an open mouth.
Ping
"Someone's messaging you I guess" you told him, ripping him from his trance.
"Oh, sorry! I should have turned that off." He took out the phone from his pocket and unlocked it. Being as nosy as he had been, you peeked at the screen - seeing the familiar design of a dating app.
Of course he was online dating. Every ping was a match, from the looks of it he got lots. Of course he was a player, the signs were all there, you just didn't want to see them. Suits, cooking, all that "princess" and "mademoiselle" bullshit. You scowled, hard. Years of training in the harsh world have made your scowl a powerful tool to broadcast your dissatisfaction to the world. Sanji understood immediately.
"No! It's not like that! I swear!" He held up his hands.
"I didn't say anything" you told him, surly.
"But you looked. Here, nothing is happening." He handed you his phone. What normal person does that?
You looked at his app, he had almost a thousand contacts, in this small town quite significant. Apparently, he was just matching every single woman he was shown, and most of them matched back. You navigated to the messages, he didn't protest. It really was sad.
He opened most conversations, all of them were a variation of "bonjour mademoiselle, I love you" and were read but ignored. The last messages were months old, he must have given up at some point. It was a strange display.
"You really thought this line would work? Just telling random women you love them right away?" You asked, unwilling to believe that someone would dedicate time and effort to this approach.
"It's no line!" He protested. "I love all women!" He said it as if this was a normal thing to say to a woman he currently was kind of flirting with.
"You won't get very far with that, this is too much too soon" you tried to explain.
"Why?" He asked seriously. "Love is good! Everyone wants to be loved!" He seemed very passionate about that.
"You don't just see someone and fall in love, that's not how it works, and it's not healthy" You were drawn into an obviously doomed debate but couldn't help it.
"No offense but, forcing yourself to date someone you don't like and doesn't respect you seems pretty far from love as well" he mused.
"Touche" you conceded, thinking about last night's disaster.
To your surprise, he blushed furiously and seemed strangely giddy all of a sudden.
"You are already jealous!" He said happily. "You want me so much that you are jealous, but don't be! The dating app didn't work because this" he pointed at himself and you" this is destiny!" He got up and swirled around like he was dancing, pouring you a fresh cup of coffee in the process.
"Just milk, no sugar" you reflexively said. He nodded and poured milk from a tiny carton into the cup. After the wine, the pasta, the dessert and the crepe, your expectations regarding this coffee were sky high.
You took a sip, Sanji almost leaned all the way over the table to savour your reaction.
It held up. The coffee tasted soft and just like freshly grounded beans always smelled. Like chocolate and nuts and warm summer mornings. You smiled as you remembered the delicious scent in the mornings of your childhood when the grownups drank their coffee while you had a whole day of playing ahead of you.
You heard a soft whimper from Sanji. He was staring at you with his mouth open.
"It's so nice to take care of someone who appreciates it." He said. "You're so sensual..." the last words were a husky whisper and his eyes fell shut. An unexpected kiss landed on your lips. It was nervous and hot and a little too wet, his eagerness getting the better of him. His little moustache tickled your face and you couldn't help but fondling that small goatee with your fingers. He kissed and touched you like a horny teenager, moaning as his tongue played around your mouth and his hands wandered over your body like he couldn't feel enough of you at once. His nimble, long fingers threaded through your hair.
It felt good, but it was too much. A guy with that kind of dating app approach was still a red flag. In a second, you could see your heart break when he left as soon as he got what he wanted. This was too easy, too perfect. Something was seriously wrong.
You pressed your hand against his muscular chest, but he didn't get the hint. He seemed to interpret it as you exploring him and he clutched your hand to himself, encouraging you to feel around more. It was seductive to just keep running your hand over his body, you could clearly feel his defined muscles under the soft fabric of his hoodie. But the doubt was too much for you to handle.
As his mouth broke away to kiss your hand, you managed to tell him: "Stop! Now!" He immediately let go and backed off, looking confused but still very much aroused. He was handsome with his lips red from a passionate kiss and his cheeks blushing. Too perfect.
"Did I hurt you? I am so sorry!" He wrung his hands and looked like a boy that had broken something expensive.
"No, it's just too fast. And I honestly don't know if I even want that right now." You explained.
He looked like you just stabbed him. Either he was the strangest, most naive man you ever met - or he was the best actor and most skilled asshole who would break your heart.
He turned away, looking hurt and small. But he was a grown man - he had to deal with rejection. You bet you weren't the first woman he startled. After a few seconds of hurt he seemed to get a hold of himself as he began to fidget with a zippo from his pocket.
"I am sorry I fell upon you like that. And kind of ruined the mood." He looked defeated, but composed. "I will be more controlled in the future. I am sorry!" He apologised with a smile that had to be forgiven immediately.
"Let's just be adults about this and forget it" you tried to somehow save the situation.
"No." He said decidedly.
"What?" You were confused.
"I'm never going to forget that. I don't want to act like I wasn't interested in you. I'll never ask for something in return when I cook for you, I promise. Please, let me cook for you in the future" he pleaded, absolutely losing you. What was his deal?
"So please, enjoy your breakfast" he said and sat down again to watch you. He explained all the foods to you in detail, making your head spin a little with all the information. He was almost like a podcast you could listen to while eating. Although your usual eating entertainment was Netflix. On the couch.
"So, after just now I hope it's not weird...but I brought the last classic for a fancy breakfast." He said a bit flustered.
"What is that? I am already stuffed..." You answered.
"Some champagne" He grinned.
"Did you really bring champagne?" You asked in disbelief.
"Just an open one from the Restaurant, we wouldn't sell that tonight anymore. But it's enough for two glasses and fresh enough." He explained, his relaxed smile back in place.
"Mhm, after yesterday I am a little hungover...just a sip?" You asked as he already poured two glasses.
You felt so tired and cozy, the table wasn't cutting it anymore. Actually, it has been ages since you used the small kitchen table - the couch was much more comfortable.
"Let's sit down here" you suggested and Sanji brought the glasses to your coffee table and sat down next to you with a wide grin and the bearing of someone who had just scored a win. He lay his arm on the headrest just above you and took one of the glasses.
"To destiny" He mumbled a toast.
"Destiny?" You giggled.
"Don't laugh! Do you think it's coincidence that you sit in my restaurant and an hour later I see that you live in my apartment building?" He said sternly.
"We live in a small town in a small building, we would have met sooner or later" you argued.
"Still destiny..." he mumbled with an adorable pout.
You touch your glass softly to his and say: "to daydrinking!"
He laughs. "To the good life" he returns the toast and you both drink.
The champagne is a bit too dry for your tastes, but surprisingly smooth. When was the last time you had a drink before noon? Probably some company event.
Looking at the handsome man on your couch, you deluded yourself into thinking you could have fun with him without attachment. Even in the moment the thought crossed your mind, it was as clear as the sparkling wine in your hand that you already liked him. He looked to inviting next to you, his outstretched arm creating the perfect space for you to rest your head. You leaned against him, feeling the soft fabric of his hoodie and his warmth once again. And it saved you from drowning in his eyes. He gasped a little when you touched him and began breathing really hard - good actor? Really naive? Doesn't matter now.
"Tell me something about yourself" you told him.
"Uhm mhm well I am a cook" he mumbled like his mouth was giving up.
"I know that" you told him. "What about family? Is this your family's restaurant?"
"Well kind of. More my stepfather. I don't really...it's complicated" he suddenly sounded like a normal person again. "But Zeff is really cool! And my colleagues at the restaurant are like my brothers." He told you about his stepfather, the restaurant and what kinds of menus he planned as you sipped your champagne. Between the hangover, a long week and a big breakfast - you were absolutely exhausted. Before you knew it, you drifted off to sleep, dreaming a pleasant dream about you and Sanji owning a small bistro somewhere nice and quiet.
When you woke up again, you were alone on the couch, afternoon sun bathed your living room in golden light, Sanji was gone. You lay outstretched under a blanket, the champagne was gone, too.
Fuck, now I fall asleep at a date? Is he mad at me?
The kitchenette is spotless, safe for the cream whipping thingy drying next to the sink. He cleaned up and left. Maybe you should bring him the thing? Or will he come and pick it up?
Undecided, you poured yourself the last cup of cold coffee. It tasted a little bland now, having lost its full aroma. You looked around your empty apartment and missed Sanji's cheery busyness already. Maybe you should just go and see where he lived. But you didn't even know his last name.
Years of online dating and unhealthy nosiness had given you the talent to find people by first name and extra info. You googled "Sanji" and "Baratie" and found an interesting newsarticle: "Success for charity" it said. "The local restaurant Baratie made a big leap for charity this weekend, inviting the children of the local community centre to cook delicious and healthy meals together. A win for the community and the children".
There was an adorable picture of Sanji, his arm around a cute little girl holding a plate of vegetables. The description read: "Sanji Vinsmoke showed the children that veggies can be tasty".
Bingo!
You would just stroll through the building and give him back his stuff and apologise for falling asleep on him. Like a normal, nice person. You were 99% sure that he didn't play games like "wait 3 days until you write" or something.
The halls of the building were narrow and long and it took you some time to find his name on one of the doors, it was on the opposite side of the building, no wonder you never bumped into him.
You pressed the doorbell, already anxious to see him again. Soft footsteps could be heard, the door opened. Your world crumbled a bit.
In front if you stood an absolute sexbomb of a woman. She wore Sanji's hoodie - the one you fell asleep on just earlier - and nothing else as it seemed. She had long, smooth legs, a perfect hourglass figure, full lips and the cutest face. Her pink hair was a perfect messy look. You stared. She looked annoyed.
"Yes?" She asked in a melodic voice.
"Uhm, is Sanji here?" You asked, trying to catch a glimpse of the flat behind her. She blocked your view.
"No, he is at work." Her answer was short and finite.
"I brought his cream whipping thing back" you stammered and indicated the device you were holding.
"Syphon" the woman stated.
"What?" You asked, confused.
"It's called a syphon. Thank you. Bye." The woman took the syphon out of your hand and closed the door, leaving you dumbstruck in the hallway.
Who said “I love you” first
This is a tough one because they said I love you to each other all the time well before they started dating and they never stopped. But one day Gretchen did specify that she is in love with Karen and Karen was like... yeah duh.
Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background
They definitely both have each other as their phone backgrounds. Gretchen's background is a candid photo she took of Karen laughing that makes her smile every time she looks at it. Karen's background is a selfie they took on Halloween.
Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror
Gretchen did it first and Karen was convinced that a ghost had come into the bathroom while she was in the shower.
Who buys the other cheesy gifts
They are in a never-ending cycle of buying each other cheesy/cliche/"just because" gifts. Karen has a massive collection of stuffed animals that Gretchen has given her and they each have a name. Gretchen absolutely loves getting flowers and anytime Karen sees one she'll pick it to give to Gretchen (she's gotten in trouble for stealing from people's gardens multiple times but she didn't realize she couldn't take them).
Who initiated the first kiss
Karen. It was really no big deal for her—just another expression of her love for Gretchen, same as hugging or cuddling or verbally saying that she loves her. She was confused when it took Gretchen by complete surprise.
Who kisses the other awake in the morning
They both do, it just depends who is awake first. Karen likes to pepper little kisses all over Gretchen's face like she does to her cats.
Who starts tickle fights
Karen, although she only did it once because Gretchen immediately started hyperventilating and it scared her.
Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower
Karen does it first, and Gretchen was nervous about it because for some reason it feels even more intimate than having sex in their bed. Then Karen washes her hair and massages her scalp and Gretchen forgets to be nervous.
Who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch
Karen's schedule is more flexible to it's usually her, but they try and meet up for lunch at least once a week, even if it's just eating lunch they brought from home together outside,
Who was nervous and shy on the first date
Gretchen. She is nervous and shy about everything, to be fair. But she had never been on a date with anyone but Jason, and those were unpleasant for everyone involved, so she worried that she wouldn't know how to make sure Karen had a good time. But Karen has a good time everywhere, especially when she's with Gretchen.
Who kills/takes out the spiders
Gretchen is absolutely terrified of spiders but Karen will cup them in her bare hands to take outside.
Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk
They already loudly proclaim their love for each other when they're sober and it's even louder when they're drunk. Gretchen will just pet Karen's hair and tell her every single thing she loves about her.
Send a ship
New faces - pack bonds
It happened not long after you'd shielded Toby from Freddy but now, the little alien had started putting more trust in you. They were no longer passing out when they needed sleep but blissfully curling up on your lap while you watched movies.
Your understanding of alien family bonds was very unclear after hearing what Toby had told you about their own parents. You were still caught up on the fact that they were somehow involved with Toby being sent here on their own.
Your hand moved down from their curly hair to the rings of metal around their wrists. Restraints, they'd called them. Restraints for a child. It wasn't right. You ran your thumb over them, wondering if there was some way to release the kid from them. Your older brother was pretty good with locks, perhaps he could help.
Of course, there was the other problem; telling your family. How do you tell your very scary family that you've essentially adopted an alien child that had broken into your apartment and put a hole in your wall?
You sighed and took out your phone, calling up your mother. She answered after the first couple rings. "Mayflower! It's been a while."
"It's been three days."
"And we only met up for half an hour before you had to leave."
"Right, sorry." You nodded, "listen, I've got someone to introduce to the family and I think you'd be the best person they meet first."
"Oh? Another boyfriend? As long as he's not like that Freddy guy-"
"No, mum," you shook your head, "this is a kid. They need help and I've been taking care of them."
"How young?"
"About fourteen."
"O-kay," your mother sounded unsure, "I am good with kids but so is your father and your brother's not too bad himself. Is there something wrong?"
"Well... I can't say over the phone. You wouldn't believe me."
"You're sounding a bit... ominous. Are you in trouble or something? You haven't illegally acquired this kid, have you?"
"Uhhh," you paused, "technically I have but I didn't kidnap them. They just appeared in my home and I'm not their legal guardian."
"May," your mother scoffed, "you're supposed to be my little perfect citizen out of my children."
You let out a huff, "mum, if you wanted children who followed the law to a tee, you shouldn't have married dad."
"I know, I know," she chuckled, "I can come around to meet this child today if you're free."
"Yeah, that would be great. Thanks, mum."
"Anything for my little flower." Your mother hung up and you looked down as you felt Toby shift.
They blinked open their eyes and let out a small bleat as they looked up at you. You chuckled, "hello, sleepyhead."
"Huh?" Toby looked around, realising they were laid on your lap in front of the TV before slowly sitting up. "Sorry for sleeping on you."
"It's fine," you kept an arm around them as they sat up, "listen, my mum's gonna come over today to meet you."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I didn't say too much over the phone so we've got to do a bit of explaining when we see her."
"Will she... accept me?" Toby asked.
"I think so," you nodded, "you're still a kid and she knows it so she'll treat you well."
"Is- does this mean I'll become part of your pack?"
"Pack?" You tilted your head.
"Yeah, your pack, or herd? I think it's meant to be pack." Toby quizzed over the words. "There's talk that human pack bonds are some of the strongest bonds in the galaxy and that you create these bonds with things that aren't even other humans."
"It's weird to hear it be called 'pack bonds'" you chuckled, "we usually use the word family to describe our groups and yes, we create these bonds with some animals like cats or dogs."
"Would I become part of your 'family'?"
You smiled, "yes. If all introductions go well, you'd become part of my family and have not only my protection but my parents and older brother's protection too."
"H-how do I make a good impression? Is there something I should do?"
"Just be you," you pat the top of their head, "I can do a lot of the explaining but like I said, you're a kid and my mother knows this so you'll get more consideration." Toby let out a bleat. "It's going to be ok. How about we get some food while we wait." Toby nodded and followed you into the kitchen.
~
Some time passed before there was a knock on the door. You and Toby were still eating lunch in the kitchen. You put your sandwich down, "stay here. I'll get it." You wiped your hands on your jeans before opened the door a crack.
On the other side was a brunette woman that was only slightly shorter than you and carrying a small backpack on her shoulder. Despite being older, her skin was in good condition with only crows feet showing at her eyes and a large collection of freckles on her tanned cheeks.
"May," she smiled, opening her arms in invitation.
"Mum," you hugged her immediately, happy to see your mother again, even if it hasn't been that long since you last saw her.
"Now where's this kid I'm meant to meet," she asked as you let her inside, closing the door again.
"First thing, mum, they're very different from any kid you've seen before," you said carefully, "and they're also pretty nervous about meeting other people. When I first saw them, they ran from me."
"What's that hole in the wall?" Your mother immediately pointed out the large dent.
"Yeah, they kinda ran into the wall while running away from me."
"Are they alright?" Your mother asked.
"They were already hurt before that. I've put stitches in to help heal it all." You looked over at the kitchen to see the top of Toby's hair sticking out over the counter they were hiding behind. "Toby? Would you like to come out here?"
Toby crept to the doorway, peeking their head out carefully but still not getting any closer. Your mother squinted on seeing them, her brain needing a chance to catch up with the non-human features Toby had. Just like you, your mother went very quiet and still on meeting the kid, not really processing fast enough that this was a real alien.
"Toby," you held your hand out for Toby to grab and they left the wall they were hugging to stand in your shadow, hugging your arm to their chest.
"Toby is- is uh-" your mother blinked.
"That was my reaction the first time too," you chuckled, "they're an alien. This is why I didn't want to say over the phone."
"Uh- is it ok to call them an alien? Is that not offensive?" Your mother asked.
"That's true, what is your species called, Tobs?"
"I- I'm an Ovec," Toby let out a nervous bleat.
"An Ovec," your mother nodded. "How did you get here?"
"I- was sent here," Toby squeezed your arm, "my- I- uh-" they let out more nervous bleats.
"Breathe, Toby, it's ok. You're safe, just keep breathing." You said, running your free hand over one of their hands.
"I'm sorry," Toby said through bleats, "I don't mean to make so much noise, sorry."
"It's alright," your mother said in a voice like honey. You knew right away on hearing that voice that she had softened from her previous surprise. She crouched to a similar level to Toby and Toby looked down. "I'm May's mother, Julia."
"I- I'm Totobyc M-Maechislovic III but May calls me Toby." Toby introduced, purposefully avoiding eye contact.
They flinched when your mother reached for them. She didn't stop her movement but she was still slow and gentle as she put her hand on Toby's shoulder, "it's lovely to meet you, Toby."
"Really?" Toby looked up briefly to see your mother smiling.
"Of course," she said, "you don't have anything to fear from us."
"You should have seen them when we went grocery shopping, they were very excited and it was adorable," you said, booping their snout.
Toby let out a bleat of offence and your mother laughed. "Oh, my husband will love you. I'm not sure how James will be though."
"I actually need James' help with something actually," you said, crouching down with your mother and showing off Toby's wrists where the metal bands are, "I was thinking of a way to get these off and he's always better at this sort of thing than I am."
"I don't think you can," Toby said, "they unlock with a specific digital key. You'd need the key to unlock them."
"James specialises in not using a key," you smiled.
"What are these bands?" Your mother asked.
"Restraints," you and Toby said together.
Your mother got this dark look on her face after hearing that and while Toby shrunk under it, you felt the spark of righteous fury reignite in your chest and you returned the look with a nod.
"I'll call your brother and tell him to bring his tools," your mother nodded at you and took out her phone.
good morning everything is fine? Could do a 21 with Luis Serra (please that hair deserves to be worshipped 💆‍♂️💆‍♂️ )
Luis Serra x female reader
Prompt: 21 - doing each other's hair
Hello! Everything is good, thank you! I hope you're doing good and thank you for your request!
Warning: No spoiler for RE 4 Remake. Fluff.
Sorry this is only short. Please enjoy!
***
Soft humming filled the air, breaking the silence aside from the rain that patted against the windows. The T.V showing some form of documentary talking about animal behaviour and grouping behaviours in gregarious animals, offering more background sound than anything really.
[Name] sat on the couch, softness painting her face as she gazed down at her husband, his head leaning back into her thighs lightly with his eyes closed, a peaceful expression on his face. His expression reminding her of a relaxed cat and she was certain, if he could, he would be purring all the same.
The idea had been a silly one but Luis seemed to like it, and so here they were, her fingers gently combing through his hair with the comb set aside, ready to be used if needed. It was no secret that Luis took pride in his appearance, nor was it that he had a bit of a routine when it came to his hair. Such dark, smooth locks that [Name] sometimes found herself envious of. How could he have such good hair?
After another few minutes, she pulled her hands back slowly and picked up the comb, brushing the few stray strands away from his face, taking the moment to admire him. Strong features yet they held a smoothness to them, a stubble that covered his jaw, lightly trying to creep up into his cheeks but he kept it trimmed down. The idea of a beard had entertained them both but he didn't feel like it was him at the moment. She didn't care. In her eyes, he would always be gorgeous.
"Luis." Her voice was but a whisper as she gently stroked his cheek, "Luis?" His eyes fluttered open and looked up at her, smoke coloured eyes filled with love and admiration. How did she end up with a man like him?
"¿Sí?" His voice was smooth, a sound that she could never grow tired of hearing.
"You're good to go now." Setting the comb aside, she shifted in her seat, her legs aching lightly from being still for so long. She paid no mind to it though. It was moments like this that she would never trade the world for. Not for the riches it offered or the promise of fame. If Luis wasn't in it then she didn't want it.
"Gracias, darling." He sat up slowly, the two of them moving and swapping positions so she was the one settled between his legs while he picked up the comb. His touch was gentle as he combed through her hair, his fingers following behind gently to help through any little tangles, untangling them as carefully as possible.
