What if Jack and Maddie Fenton were actually Jack and Janet Drake?
The Drakes are their actual identities but they created the Fentons as a why of letting loose, of getting to be their truest most unhinged selves and pursue their true passion without the eyes of high society Gotham judging them.
Whenever the Drakes are supposedly out of the country on archeological digs they are actually in a little no where town in the midwest.
The Drake wealth is perfectly capable of funding their experiments and prototypes and every now and then they do show up to a dig for a week or too, but the Fentons are who they truly are.
So of course Gotham never finds out about Janet's first pregnancy and little Jasmine is welcomed into the world as an Amity Park Fenton, not a Gotham Drake. Janet's second pregnancy however.
Well as i said, the Fentons are who they truly are at their most unhinged and unfiltered. And upon finding out that their having a set of identical twins, well, can you really blame them for passing up this perfect opportunity to test Nature vs. Nurture.
One boy would be a wealthy Drake raised as an only child in a hostile city, the other would be a Fenton raised with his older sister in a peaceful small town.
That's what they decide and thats what they do, and everything is as cannon goes. Tim doesn't know that his parents "archeological digs" are really an excuse to spend most of their time as the Fentons, and Danny and Jazz don't know that the longer "ghost conventions" are an excuse to handle Drake affairs and check on their unknown brother.
At least until things start to get complicated.
(Im not sure if Maddie fakes Janet's death or if she really dies, and if Jack's coma is fake or real and he lost his Fenton memories. Or maybe the death and coma dont happen at all and the truth comes out some other way like Danny finding the Nature vs. Nurture notes or a school trip to gotham or maybe Jazz desides to go to college in Gotham and it comes out that way somehow.
This obviously works best as a "bad parents Jack and maddie" though how bad they are can be entirely up to you. Maybe everything comes out sometime after a "reveal gone right" and Danny and Jazz think their parents are getting better only to be smacked in the face by the betrayal of "secret billionaire parents who essentially abandoned their brother"
Dont know but im tossing it to the void.
To me the most important scenes in this idea is Tim angst at the fact that his parents were never actually too busy to be there for him and had instead chosen no to be there, the somewhat bitter consolation of learning that even when their parents were physically there they still weren't there there for his siblings, and then some good ole slightly unhinged sibling bonding.
Maybe the measuring of ecto contamination and debate in if their parents presence did more damageto their health or less
They honestly might be tied on mental and physical scars. All three kids tend to come with headcanons about neglect and malnourishment)

Steph's new roommate's little brother was absolutely a meta.
The two of them weren't really trying particularly hard to hide it, but they weren't mentioning it either, so Steph just... followed their lead. Especially because Jazz, while a little neurotic, was a pretty good roommate and new some truly innovative things to make in the microwave with whatever was in their dorm fridge.
But anyway, back to the meta thing. Steph could totally back it up.
Jazz was from the Midwest somewhere, one of the "I" states. (Indiana? Illinois? Iowa? Steph could never keep them straight.) From the way Jazz talked about her parents and the things she said to Danny, Steph could tell that the Fentons still lived there and Danny with them. Yet at least four nights out of seven, without fail, Steph would come home from a long night studying or vigilante-ing to find Danny in their dorm room, usually passed out on the futon. As though Gotham wasn't halfway across the country from Indiana or Illinois or Iowa.
"Our parents are pretty loud," Jazz explained with a quiet grimace, the first time it happened. "Like 'keep you awake at all hours of the night' loud. I told Danny he could sleep here when he needs to, is that okay? Tucker's parents are great, but they'll kick him out eventually."
"As a sleep-deprived college kid, I wholeheartedly support sleeping wherever you can get it," Steph whispered back. "As long as he doesn't eat my half of the food, I'm not gonna tattle to the RA."
"Thank you thank you thank you!" Jazz squealed, flapping her hands. Steph darted a glance at the teenager passed out on their futon, but he didn't even twitch. "Oh, don't worry, you have to be loud enough to wake the dead to get Danny up," Jazz said with a smirk.
"Alright. Makes things easier, I suppose," Steph said with a shrug, moving to sling her backpack onto her bunk. "He gonna be here in the morning?"
Jazz narrowed her eyes as though Elder Sister Glare could penetrate dreams. Hell, maybe it could. "He'll be at school before you wake up, if he knows what's good for him."
School. Which should be halfway across the country. Sure. Well, Steph could recognize a topic that Simply Wasn't Spoken About and unlike the rest of the Bats, she actually respected her roommate's personal privacy. "Cool."
So. Definitely a meta. Teleportation, maybe? Or superspeed or flying, she supposed. Whatever it was, the kid was clearly only using it to get a good night's rest in a safe space, so it wasn't really Steph's business.
At least neither of them had noticed she was a vigilante. It was an impressive secret to keep in such close quarters, if Steph did say so herself.
~*~
Jazz had clocked that Stephanie was Spoiler in a week and a half. And it only took her that long because she was distracted by orientation. The girl wasn't exactly subtle. Especially not with her injuries. Jazz had three years of experience watching someone come home injured and try to hide it, and while she was better than Danny, it still wasn't good enough.
Still, Steph wasn't making a big deal of Danny portalling into their dorm half of every week. And, like she had with Danny, Jazz wanted Steph to trust her enough to tell her herself.
And if this meant that Jazz spent a good portion of her first semester figuring out the rest of the Bats' identities based on Steph's friends and acquaintances, well. That was between her and Steph's scary-but-sweet girlfriend who read her like a book as soon as their eyes met.

Nice how about to give you one of my old DC DP crossover prompts
Danny is a big fanfic writer for Batman, most of the time doing Tim joins the bat family early and Alternate attack on Titan's Tower. After his accident he decides to write a Jason Todd is a halfa straight out of the grave fic. Just to get his emotions out there and to vent and it gets incredibly popular.
As Time evolves the fic itself evolves from a vent fic to a under the table way to reanalyze his ghost fights and do better by transplanting his ghosts into the fic for Jason to fight. This happens generally okay until Penelope Spectra of unlike the other ghosts she was known by the rest of the world and was actually tracked by Reddit. Making the fans realize hey this is actual going on maybe not by Jason Todd but someone is using this to reanalyze their fights under the veneer of being fiction.
Danny starts to get famous for his fanfictions when he introduces the idea of halfas for the second Robin. He's not sure what happened to the second Robbin, but there are rumors he didn't die; he just retired, and the fans all accept that as the truth.
At first, Danny writes the second Robin struggling with his double life, as alive and dead, forced to hide his existence from Batman as a secret helper at night. He uses the second Robin to freely speak about his struggles with his powers in the early days, using fiction to cover his venting.
He even gave Robin a secret identity- with a disclosure that it was all made up and he did not know anything about the Bats because fans can be crazy- with the name Noir.
He made Noir a loser in school- consistently bullied, his grades were low without Batman's help, and he even had Noir live on the streets for a while before getting flung into the Ghost Zone.
Danny didn't realize it, but his writing made Noir a loveable character to his fans, who all loved "how flawed but kind-hearted" Noir, the halfa Robin. One of Danny's best commenters always claimed that Danny captured the second Robin's character.
He quickly develops Noir into someone who grows comfortable in his role after defeating the old Ghost King and getting discovered by Batman. He made the series with Noir, focusing more on the threats of the other ghosts that came to challenge the Ghost King.
Each ghost was based on his own rouges- all fighting the same way but with different names. Danny switched his main focus from Noir being confused by his powers to Noir getting stronger and stronger through all his fights.
Instead of venting on what life had done to him, Danny used his fanfiction to analyze his fights. He often wrote about what he could have done better, only after writing the actual scene and using that in a fight later on.
He even threw in there some questions that Noir started having about boys- which in high sight he should have known Jazz would have quickly picked up on because she took him to Pride "just to experience new things, Danny!"
He confirmed Noir was bi two updates later and sat back with a smirk when all the comments started rolling in.
Noir's Double Life was his pride and joy. He thought people had to search for his fic, and no one besides his sister would ever read it. Then he made the mistake of writing in a new ghost- Penny Spectra- using her exact powers, thinking no one would recognize her.
What he forgot was that back before Danny kicked her ass into the ghost zone, was that she was a well-known school counselor. A miracle worker, they called her.
Because she always found the teenagers about to fall apart and "saved" them. She had made her way clear across the country, bringing to light issues parents and guardians had no idea their children were going through and getting them the help they needed.
Mr. Lancer had been proud of getting her to come to the school for good reason.
Most adults also didn't know that teenagers talk to each other or, like Danny, post online to vent. Her past victims- for they were victims as some had not been able to pull themselves from the darkness she plunged them into- had started a riddle trend about her.
People began to piece together that whenever she went young people became more and more depressed. They had no proof of course, so she became an urban legend, a demon that appeared as a woman in schools.
Like when a celebrity is turned into a meme for being a secret serial killer, no one takes it seriously, but they think about it in the back of their minds.
Danny just wrote about her with a far too honest retelling of what she had done and how he had found out she was a ghost. He hadn't realized that one of his readers would be one of the original responders for the old Reddit thread about the fact he was a past victim.
That same reader would later link his work for the thread- especially the chapter where she appeared- and everyone would agree that the real Penelope Spectra was a ghost.
And that would be read by Tim Drake, a young member of Riddit who always took mysteries to heart and knew what was real and what wasn't.
This sane Tim Drake would later present Jason to the fanfiction in an effort to tease him about someone adoring him so much they wrote a fic about it and Jason would surprise him with claiming to have already been following the story. \
Their bickering would grab the attention of Bruce, Zatanna, and Constantine, who were in the room next door talking about protection against the dead.
John will be alarmed to see how accurate the fanfiction writer's description of ghosts and King Phantom is, then even more alarmed to find that the writer knows about halfas.
Two days after he posted the newest chapter, Danny is hunted down by Batman to find the human with an insane amount of knowledge about the Infinite Realms and his second son's condition.
Danny would be busy trying to decide if he should give in to the idea of giving Noir a ship and who it should be with while his friendlier ghosts beta-read his work.
"Honestly, I'm a little flatter about how hot you made me sound. Noir definitely has a crush on James the ghost biker." Johnny says flouting to read over Danny's shoulder.
Kitty nods eagerly from where she is lounging on the couch. "I agree, James and Noir are meant to be Danny!"

archetypical changes
@echoghost1 @ghostfox_fuyu
It started out small.  Small enough that, in retrospect, Danny was surprised he noticed at all.  But he did.  At least, he noticed enough to dismiss it as nothing important.
It was just hair, after all.  Just hair, growing a bit too fast.  He knew that people did have different rates of hair growth naturally.  Like, beards especially could grow fast.  That’s why five o’clock shadow was a thing.
Just hair.
He wound a curl around finger, where it peeked out from under his left ear.  This fast…  He could probably brush it off.  Maybe it was an extension of his healing powers.  He’d just need to cut it more often, so he didn’t go to the barber too often.  Would that even be something people would notice?
He’d noticed.  It was his body.  His hair.
Would anyone else?
He ran a hand through it, sweeping it back, and went on with his life.
“Hey, Jazz,” he said, a week later.  “Will you give me a haircut?”
“Yeah, sure,” said Jazz.  She turned from her desk and looked him over.  “It is getting long, but didn’t you just get a haircut?”
Danny shrugged.  “Does it matter?”
Jazz walked over to him and looked up and down the hallway.  “Is it a ghost thing?” she whispered.
“No idea,” Danny said.
Jazz sighed, as if it was his fault he was a freak of nature.
Well.  It kind of was.  Still.  She didn't need to act like it.
“Come on, we'll do it in the bathroom. I'll get the broom, you find the scissors.”
They regrouped in the bathroom a few minutes later.  Jazz had picked up a chair as well.
“Go ahead and sit down,” she said as she pulled a comb from a drawer.  She ran the comb through his hair.
“I did brush my hair before,” said Danny, leaning back slightly and closing his eyes.
“Sure,” said Jazz.  “Just checking.  How do you want this?”
“However it was before.  Just shorter than it is now.”
“Well… I’ll do my best.  But you know I’ve not done this before, right?”
“Yeah, but I can’t ask Mom or Dad, and I’m broke, so.  This is about it.  Unless I want to ask Sam, and I’m not ready to go goth.”
“Going ghost is enough for you, huh?”
“Pretty much.”
“Okay,” said Jazz with a sigh.  “Let’s do this.”
The scissors snipped cleanly through his hair, over and over, ticklish strands falling around his ears and shoulders.  Jazz didn’t get fancy.  She kept things relatively even and didn’t attempt fades or different lengths or anything like that.  The result was somewhat strange, but it was workable.  No one would think he had some kind of weird hair-growing… thing.
Yeah.  He was totally killing this secret identity thing.
Jazz ran a hand through his hair, shaking loose a few more cut strands.  “Your hair is really fluffy, you know that?”
“Thanks, Jazz,” said Danny.
“Thank me by helping clean up.  Your hair got everywhere.”
“Guess that’s why barber shops use those weird little capes.”
“Yeah,” said Jazz.
They cleaned up relatively quickly, and Danny spent the rest of the afternoon working on homework, secure in the knowledge that he had, once again, protected himself from discovery via stupid means, like supernaturally fast-growing hair.  He didn’t have the time for it to distract him from what was really important.  In this case, transformations of functions.
Math.  What would he do without it?
Then, of course, he went to bed and fell asleep.  No one disturbed him that night, ghost or human, which only happened about half the time, even if it felt like he was being woken up every night, sometimes.
He woke up and ran his hands through his hair.  It felt longer than it had yesterday when he went to bed, but not by a huge amount.  He might have to get Jazz to cut his hair once a week or more.  Maybe he’d just have to learn how to do it himself.  Ugh…
He went about his usual morning routine in his normal somnambulant state.  Clothing, shoes, on to the bathroom…
His reflection blinked sleepily at him.  Yeah, his hair was a bit longer, but only by a few millimeters.  It wasn’t growing fast enough that anyone would notice over the course of a few days.
Dismissing the problem as one that wouldn’t truly become problematic for a few more days, he picked up his toothbrush and made a face at himself in the mirror.
Then he froze.
He leaned forward, over the sink, baring his teeth.  He poked at his canines with one finger.  Yep.  Yep, that was real.  That wasn’t a hallucination, even if it seemed like it should be.
His upper canines had grown long and sharp overnight.  Their points descended until they almost touched his bottom gums.  He opened his mouth and discovered that it wasn’t just his upper canines, but his lower canines, too.
His fingers roved over the rest of his teeth, searching for other changes.  He couldn’t find any.  That didn’t mean they weren’t there.
He pulled off his shirt, then his pants.  He hadn’t noticed anything else while he was getting dressed, but he was so out of it in the mornings that his lack of noticing also didn’t mean anything.
His skin… still pasty white, still lightly freckled.  His muscles seemed to move normally, but he wasn’t exactly an expert.  However…  He raised his hand to his side and slotted his fingers into the gaps between his ribs.  It hadn’t been like this before, had it?  He slid his fingers back and forth, thinking.  It felt… oddly satisfying, but also very wrong.  His hips also seemed slimmer, bonier.
He’d never had all that much fat, he took after his mother in that way, but he was pretty sure this was over and above that.  Something strange was happening to him.
He put his shirt and pants back on and walked through the wall into Jazz’s room.
“Holy– Knock first,” said Jazz, throwing the first thing she could grab at him.  Which was her pajama pants.  Ew.  “What’s wrong?”
“I have fangs now,” said Danny.
“What?”
Danny opened his mouth as wide as he could to show her.
 “What are you doing, I don’t want to see your uvula, that’s– Oh.”
Danny let his mouth close with a click.  “What am I supposed to do?”
“I’m–”  Jazz looked lost.  “I don’t know.  You can probably hide, um, teeth for school.  It’s not as if people are going to be looking in your mouth…  Are there any other changes?  Other than that and your hair?”
“Um,” said Danny.  “I– Maybe?”
“If it’s important enough that you broke into my room–”
“I didn’t break anything.”
“--then you’d better tell me.”
Danny felt himself blushing. “It’s– I think that I’ve lost a lot of weight.  Like, overnight.  I can see my ribs now.”
Jazz hissed through her teeth.  “That’s serious, Danny.  That’s a serious health thing.”
“More than the fangs?”
“Way more than the fangs.  I’ll call us out sick, and we can go visit your doctor friend.  What was his name?  Frostfight?”
“Frostbite,” corrected Danny.  “You’re really going to help me skip school?”
“For a health thing?” asked Jazz.  “Yeah.  You basically are sick.  Or, at least, there’s something strange going on with your body that we need to figure out sooner rather than later.  Now get out of here so I can get dressed.  Is it cold where Frostbite lives?”
“Freezing,” said Danny.  “Wear long underwear and layers.  Lots of layers.”
“Ugh.  I might as well wear my hazmat.”
“Yeah, that wouldn’t be a bad idea,” said Danny.  “We are going into the Ghost Zone.”
Jazz sighed.  “Great, now, seriously, get out and get ready to go.  I’ll get you when I’m ready.”
Danny fled back through the walls and dropped himself onto his bed.  He waited, thoughts whirling.  What could possibly be making his hair grow faster, his weight drop, and his teeth turn into fangs?  Was this some kind of ghost disease?  Ghost puberty?  Some kind of weird curse?
Jazz knocked on his door not long after, and Danny leaped up, eager to get answers.
“I called us out,” she said, then did a double take.  “Danny, your hair.”
He reached up and ran his hand over his head.  “It’s longer,” he said.
“A lot longer,” said Jazz.  “Visibly longer.  I was only gone a few minutes.  It’s getting faster.  A lot faster.”
Danny forced a smile.  “Well, good thing we were already going to see Frostbite.”
Jazz hesitated, then nodded.  “I got Mom and Dad to run off to Elmerton.  Told them there was a ghost sighting over there.”
“So they won’t notice us being gone.  Smart.”
“I know I am,” said Jazz.  She smirked down at Danny, then winked.  “Come on, let’s go.”
Danny went ghost and floated next to her as she made her way down the stairs.  “How are you on piloting the Specter Speeder?”
“I’m, well,” she made a face.  “I haven’t gotten much of a chance.  I’ve gotten up to level three on the simulator.”
“You should be fine to fly it, then,” said Danny.  “It’s not like there’s a lot of stuff to run into– you’ll just go through it.  And there’s no time to learn like the present.”
“Don’t use my words against me,” said Jazz, scowling slightly.  Danny stuck his tongue out at her.
They went down into the lab, and started going through the flight checks for the Specter Speeder.
“I’ll fly ahead,” said Danny, clipping on a Fenton Fone.  “Check for danger and all.”
“Are you sure you’re up for that?”
“Yeah, I feel fine,” said Danny.  “Just… weird.”  He licked his teeth.  “Really weird.”
“Okay, go ahead.  I’ll finish up here in just a couple of minutes.”
Danny flew through the portal and did a few laps of the portal.  “Everything looks clear for you over here.”
“Okay,” said Jazz through the Fone.  “Check your Fenton Fone.  It’s skipping a lot of what you say.”
Danny grumbled but checked it.  It seemed fine.  He popped it back in.  “I think we’ll just have to deal with it,” said Danny.
“Great,” said Jazz.  “Stand clear.”
The Specter Speeder slowly slid through the portal.  Once it was all the way through, Danny tapped his Fone again and waved at Jazz.  “Follow me,” he said.  “It’s a long way there.”
.
The Far Frozen was as cold as ever.  Danny landed in the snow, his hair falling down to the curve of his jaw, and sighed at the pleasant sensation.  Flying wasn’t difficult, per se.  It wasn’t like walking or running, it didn’t really use muscles, but it was tiring, and the Far Frozen was far.
However… was he more tired than he normally would have been?  Or was this another symptom?
“Great One!” greeted Frostbite, jarring Danny from his spiraling introspection.  “What brings you here today?”
“Well,” said Danny, trying to get his thoughts together.
“Health things,” said Jazz, climbing out of the Speeder.  “Oh, gosh, it really is cold out here.”
“I see,” said Frostbite, leaning closer to Danny.  “You do not appear injured.”
“It’s more like… body… changes,” explained Danny awkwardly.  He glanced sideways at the other yetis walking through the public space.  “Can we go in?”
“Of course,” said Frostbite.  He gestured Danny and Jazz onward and towards a well-lit cave.  “Medical is this way, as you might remember.”
“I… guess I don’t, really,” said Danny, following Frostbite.  “It’s sort of a blur.”
“Understandable.  You were quite unwell.”
Danny could feel Jazz glaring at the back of his head.  He decided to ignore that.  Problem for later, if she remembered.  The hair and teeth and weight loss were the problems now.
They reached the medical wing in short order, and Frostbite ushered him and Jazz into a smaller private room.  There was a counter and an examination bench and a few cabinets.  “So, what seems to be the problem?” he asked.
Danny, with Jazz’s ‘help,’ explained.
“Hm,” said Frostbite.  “There are a few things that could cause that, but I need to make some measurements before I could say which one is happening here.  Could you sit up here and take off your shirt?”
Danny flew up - it was a bit too high to just jump up - and pulled off his shirt.  Frostbite produced a stethoscope, and asked Danny to cough and hum.  He listened intently.  Danny listened, too.  Humming felt… odd, as if his chest were more hollow, as if the sound was brushing the very edge of his ghostly wail.
“And all this happened recently?” asked Frostbite, after a few minutes.
“Yeah.  I noticed the hair thing about a week ago?  Everything else seemed to just show up today.”
“I think I may know what is happening.”
“Is it a ghost puberty thing?” asked Danny, unsure if he should hope for that or not.
“I suppose it could be considered analogous to puberty,” said Frostbite, bemused, “although puberty isn't something that typically happens to ghosts.  We don't age.  It's more along the lines of adapting to a role after a period of malleability.”
Jazz let out a little sigh.  “It's not something that will hurt Danny, then?”
“Unfortunately, I cannot say that for certain.  There are a great deal of potential complications, which may be made greater by your half-human status, and the archetype you seem to be settling into…”
“What is it?” asked Danny.
“The role you have taken upon yourself is that of a tutelary, a protective spirit.  You are developing a very thin, almost gaunt appearance, and your hair is growing rapidly.  Fangs tend to be nonspecific, common to many types of ghost, the same with minor changes to your nails and skin tone.  Your wail on the other hand…”
“I sort of felt it when I was humming, earlier,” volunteered Danny.  “That hasn't happened before.”
“There is only one group I know of that matches all those traits,” said Frostbite gravely.  “Here, in the Realms, they are called the Keeners, or the Mourners, or, on occasion, Those Who Mourn Before, for their predictive abilities.  In the human world, I believe the more famous of them became known as banshees.”
“I thought banshees were all women,” said Danny, feeling a little blank.
“The famous ones are,” said Frostbite.
Danny wanted to know more about that, but shook his head and returned to the question at hand.  “What's dangerous about that, though?”  he certainly thought it sounded unpleasant and inconvenient to the whole ‘secret identity’ thing, but he could admit there was a difference between that and actively dangerous.
“A banshee’s wail is supposed to kill people, isn't it?” interjected Jazz.
“They do, on occasion,” said Frostbite.  “Especially when they are younger and have less control.”
“I've had my wail under control for ages, though,” protested Danny, shooting a glare at Jazz.  She gave him an apologetic shrug.
“When I asked you to hum, earlier, didn’t you feel something different?  Something unusual?” asked Frostbite, kindly.
Danny shrugged.  “Maybe.”
“This is a change,” said Frostbite.  “One that affects more than your physical appearance.  The powers associated with your archetype will change as well, including your wail, and those changes generally come with a loss of control, however temporary.  The typical precaution in these cases is to, ah, use a gag, until a community of banshees willing to train the new one can be contacted.”
“I, um.  I don’t suppose that’s something that I can do, like, overnight?”
“Not generally,” said Frostbite.  “There’s some overlap between banshees and ice-cored ghosts, more than there is for fire-cored ghosts, but it isn’t a great enough number for us to have regular contact.”
“That’s… I can’t… Great.  That’s.  What am I supposed to do with that?  I’ve got my whole town–  The ghosts– I can’t just up and leave.”
“Danny, you can’t go back if your wail could just randomly go off and, you know, ki–”
“I know that,” interrupted Danny, dropping his head into his hands.  He rubbed his face vigorously.
“You may not have that particular addition to your wail,” said Frostbite.  “In fact, I would be rather surprised if you did.  You are, like I said, primarily a tutelary.  A protector.  Banshees from such backgrounds more typically have predictive or clairvoyant abilities.  They do not cause the deaths that follow their cry, they only are aware of them.”
“Well, I guess that’d just suck for me rather than everyone else.”  He could already feel his mental health taking a hit.  “But I’ll be good, I’ll stay here and do whatever precautions you want.  Play the silent game, sit in the middle of nowhere in the Zone, the gag thing, whatever.  You’d better come up with a good excuse for me, though.  I think Mom and Dad’ll get suspicious if they don’t see me for days or whatever.”
“I’ll do my best,” said Jazz.
“Is there anything else I should know about?” asked Danny.  “Like, am I going to spontaneously combust or grow a tail or what?”
Frostbite chuckled.  “Probably not.  But we should take some fittings for the sound-dampening gag…”
Danny sighed.  “I really don’t want to wear a gag.”
“It will be temporary,” said Frostbite, “to prevent accidents before you can have proper training.”
Danny wrinkled his nose.  “That sounds wrong.”
“How so?” asked Frostbite.
“Don’t want to talk about it.”  He fell back to lay down on the examination table.
Frostbite patted his shoulder.  “It will be fine, Great One,” he said.  “Almost everyone goes through this eventually.  And while you’re here, I can give you more details about what other kinds of changes you can expect going forward.  I have simplified a good deal, after all.”
“Oh my gosh, it is just like puberty,” said Danny.
“Are you sure you’ll be okay without me?” asked Jazz.
“I’m more worried about you flying back.”
“We can give your sister an escort,” said Frostbite.  “If Miss Jasmine is alright with that.”
Danny removed his hands from his face to stare Jazz into taking the escort.
“Alright,” said Jazz.  “If it won’t put you out.”  She walked over to Danny.  “And if you are sure you don’t need me.”
“I’m sure.  We can’t both be gone for who knows how long.”
She sighed and patted his shoulder.  “It’s going to be okay.”
“I know,” said Danny.  “I’m just going to complain about it the whole time.”
“As is your right.  I know I wasn’t too happy when it started happening to me.  I wasn’t always as handsome as I am now, you know.”Danny sat up.  “Okay, now, I’ve got to hear that story.”

Alfred finds and adopts three homeless teens while the whole of the Batclan is away, the three teens are of course The Fentons. Alfred on the other hand had been dealing with a bit of Empty Nest Syndrome and takes the trio in, so by the time the rest of the Batclan filters back there are three extra people in the Manor but the Fentons deliberately ghost the rest of the residents.
I love this for four reasons:
The potential for Alfred, who wishes Bruce would stop adopting small violent children, realizing that HE is the same.
You can't tell me Alfred, Danny, Dani, and Jazz won't be BFFs. Jazz is the only (mostly) sane person in this house besides him. Dani absolutely WILL spy and report on injuries in exchange for more of that casserole. Danny and Alfred have similar sarcastic wit.
"If we had a nickel for every billionaire with a secret identity we know, we would each have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but weird it happened twice."
The SHENANIGANS!!!!!
Shenanigans include:
At first, Alfred doesn't tell the Batfam because they're a family of detectives. Surely they'll notice. Over time, it becomes a contest of who can make them suspect the most without being found.
Alfred either playing it off or staring with a raised eyebrow when one of the Batfam asks why/if he's talking to himself.
Jazz can only be turned invisible in the nick of time so many times before somebody finds out about her. "It says here, Ms. Fenton, that you have a brother?" "Yes, Danny. He died. But don't worry, he got better!"
When Tim is forbidden caffeine for a week, Danny drinks his coffee super fast or Dani replaces it with chamomile tea with black food coloring.
Dani: "You know Dick, you really shouldn't do that."
Dick, after a moment of panic, realizing there's nothing in the room with him. "....God?"
Dani, realizing how much chaos she can cause: "yeah, that's me! God."
Danny and Dani take turns being human just to walk past open doors. They all look enough alike to Tim, Dick, Damien, and a young Jason in uncertain light that the rest of the fam has to do double takes.
When someone calls Constantine over as a favor, he takes 2 steps into the manner, says no, and RUNS.
"So I've heard the voice of God, and it sounds like a 14-year-old girl."
"....how hard did Bane hit you again?"
"God says Jason is the one who stole your book."
"...right ok."
Bruce decides he's gonna go be Batman while wounded. He snuck out, so Al calls his Secret Ghost Squad.
Batman is repeatedly interrupted (*cough* saved) by 2 OP glowing metas. Constantine will no longer cross Gotham's borders.
Danny: "You need more ectoplasm. You're a growing half-ghost."
Jason: *shoots the wall* "WHAT THE FUCK WHO WAS THAT?!"
Danny: would you believe it was God?
Jason: NO
Jason figures it out first because he's being parented by a dead guy. He actually doesn't mind that much because he gets to visit the GZ
Cass figures out second because she's observant.
Dick figures it out third by spraying 'God' with paint. He then realizes he attacked an invisible creature that can go through walls with no idea how to fight it.
Tim figures it out by deliberately putting salt in his coffee to see what would happen.
Damien finds Cujo. He is Upset that Cujo already has an owner. Danny tells Damien in exchange for Damien to stop yelling insults at him. (Dani calls him Weak for this, and tells Damien 15 minutes later because he thought she was calling HIM weak and had Opinions)
"Oh shit."
Steph bribes the 'house spirits' for prank help, and then tricks them. They tell her out of Respect.
Duke starts talking to himself about star output on his homework, gets stuck, and SpaceBoi helps. Duke's 10 minutes into stars actually being interesting for once before he realizes he's talking to a ghost.
Bruce has been introduced to them by Jazz. Alfred made her after the 4th sleepless night due to researching the surprise metas.
Dani: its cool dude, but now I have to go prank Tim. Bye!
Vlad shows up for a private meeting with Bruce Wayne. The ghosties reveal themselves in order to kick his ass.
Alfred is the only person who can get away with calling Danny 'Daniel' and Dani 'Danielle'. Anyone else has Serious Regrets.
The Joker breaks Alfred's leg in a bombing. He's never seen again. Danny, Dani, and Jazz are a little TOO innocent

Would love to hear what you have in mind for Jazz Fenton. Also Vlad?? 👀👀👀
Tumblr media
Jazz time, baby!
Jazz was always my favorite character, I think that she added a lot to the show, so she's more or less unchanged, apart from some tweaks to fit her into the slightly different dynamics of the series.
Kindhearted and emotionally intelligent, but sometimes a little self-important, Jazz is the only member of Danny's family who knows that he's a trans boy. However, she does not know about Danny's ghost half at the start of the series, because while Danny confides in her about his struggles in the closet, he has a pretty good reason to not trust her with his ghost identity.
See, while Jazz does everything she can to support her brother, she doesn't always support him in the way he needs, and can be a little pushy if she feels like she knows better. In particular, in the start of the series, she is nagging Danny about when he's going to come out to their parents. Counter-intuitively, Jazz's desire to help her brother has made her somewhat tunnel-visioned. The way she sees it, the stress he feels is because he doesn't know how his parents would react, so the obvious solution to her is for him to come out and then deal with whatever happens after. She doesn't understand that Danny just isn't ready yet, and that it's okay to not be ready, and Danny has reasonable paranoia that she's going to out him to their parents to get it over with. While Jazz would never do that, she hasn't made herself trustworthy enough for Danny to believe that.
Tumblr media
Jazz: How long are you going to keep this secret from our parents??? Danny: Which one? Jazz: What? Danny: what
Jazz means well, but needs to learn that her perspective isn't always the right one. She also doesn't get along with Sam too well, as she's the sort of person who believes that you can still work within the system to make progress, while Sam wants to dismantle the system. A huge part of her arc in the story will be to learn that change doesn't come from playing by the rules, and that there are many things in the world she just won't see or experience due to her place of privilege, and that she needs to make a concerted effort to lift people up rather than try to "save" them. Like in the OG show she'll learn about Danny's ghost half by mistake, without Danny knowing she knows, and this will be the catalyst for her to start trying to see things from his point of view, as she wonders why he wouldn't tell her. Sam will also radicalize her, and the two will end up becoming good friends late in the story.
Also like in the show Jazz won't believe in ghosts at first and harbors a lot of resentment towards her parents for not pursuing a type of science she considers to be useful, especially after the accident. Eventually it'll be too obvious for her to ignore the existence of ghosts, but even when it turns out they were right, Jazz can't let go of how she feels about her parents right away.
The Fenton's have always been geniuses in one field or another, but Jazz is the only member in the family who isn't interested in science. She studies therapy and thinks of herself as good enough to basically be a therapist already (she is not correct,) but begins to develop a fascination with ghosts and how they work both biologically and psychologically. She is deeply embarrassed by this, worried that her parents have started to "rub off on her," and does her best to hide it, but secretly begins to journal and catalogue certain ghosts that she witnesses, trying to figure them out. She is off-the-mark with a lot of her classifications, but makes an equal amount of useful observations and theories, and once she joins Team Phantom proper her research will become extremely helpful.
As for Vlad... I have thoughts and ideas for him, but I wanna wait a bit before I share it all... 😉

Acts unmasked -3
Ellie's demand and Jazz's appearance.
------
A03 Prev Master
Danny had no idea how to handle this situation. Ellie was already spread out on a bed taking claim of the television in the room. She seemingly didn’t want to talk about any of this.
On top of that, the room just was covered in windows looking into space. Did he first thing figure out how to open the blinds of the windows? Yes. But really. How could he not? It was space.
He should just close them again.
Danny needed to explain to Ellie what was going on. The cover story and everything she needed to know. He couldn’t have her call him phantom and she definitely had to be told she was princess. Why did he put her? That was just messed up. Telling random people on the off chance they may help. He’s lucky it didn’t seemingly make matters work. He just had to break it to her.
Where was Jazz??
She could handle this way better than him. She’d know how to break this news. Danny was an awful choice in that regard. Obviously, he just rushed into things. He would just not say anything. Not until jazz was here.
“Danny? What are you hiding? You have that look in your eyes and are pacing” Ellie questioned.
“Nothing” the raised eyebrow only confirmed he spoke too quickly.
“What are you hiding,” she asked while leaving behind the bed and clicking off the remote.
“It’s not important.”
“Then tell me.”
“Did you know astronauts in space age 0.007 seconds slower than people on Earth for every half hour they spend in space... I’m pretty sure that applies to us as well.”
“Danny”
He just had to steer her away. “What about the fact there are more trees on Earth than stars in the sky”
“Dannnnyy”
Maybe Tucked was right, space facts don’t distract. Bits and pieces. That’s what he’ll give. He just doesn’t have to mention the princess part of the being sold part. “I’m just stressed. I told them I was the ambassador. I don’t even know what those do. Now I don’t know what’s going to happen here. We can’t let them know I’m king. What if they use that against us? Please don’t tell them”
“Why”
“I may have insinuated… that the realm was ready to destroy this universe. Which I mean it is. But like. They don’t need to know who exactly the king is….” Perfect cover!!
“Hmmmm. That’s really all??” asked with uncertainty.
“Totally. It’s not like you were sold to the government or anything. That would be utterly ridiculous.” Why did that come out of his mouth?
“They did wWHAT?!?” Ectoplasm inching its way out.
Heck. No. This wasn’t good. Her reserves couldn’t handle any dump.
“I… ummm. Did say. It’s not like…” his defense well he didn't have one.
“You’re an awful liar. We all know this.” Her face hardened “They aren’t getting away with this”
He knew that look. It’s the same one she had right before the attack on the box ghost. No no no no. He had to stop this before she could do anything.
“I already did. The acts get revoked, Jack and Maddie punished, and the guys in white punished” he really hoped she reacted well to the last tad bit “and. Well. Jazz is going to be your guardian.”
He was just going to explain that part. Hopefully, that will work and give her other things to think about.
“you need a guardian and actual identification. We can make them do all that for us. No risking Tucker going to jail for making a fake identity. Jazz and I have always wanted you to actually stay with us. That’s why the apartment is two bedrooms. Jazz was always gonna stay on campus.”
It’s at least calming her tone somewhat. Ellie has always been hard to read.
“My travels I’m no-“
“No. I won’t stop you. But maybe it can be a group thing. On the weekends or something. No more traveling around all alone.”
“Promise me. No more hidden plans, be straight with me”
Danny hesitated at that. He really didn’t want to promise that, not when he is still keeping secrets from her. He had gotten this far without causing his little sister to go on a rampage. Maybe he should just be straight with her.
With a sigh, he decided to take Jazz’s advice late.
“There’s one more thing. I should have told you a long time ago. Back when the transfer happened…. That procedure made you a member of the royal family. It made you” his gut was twisting at the Addison. “Well.. it um.. it made you the princceeesss…”
“It what”
Oh no. That was anger.
“You expect me to just accept that. Just to go oh alright. Why wasn’t I TOLD. Why want I warned? And YOU expect me to keep your secret. If the so-called ambassador can make a demand. I’m sure the actual apparent PRINces can.”
With that, she phased out the door. Danny rushed after her.
“ELLIE stop!!”
He was running in a thing called the watchtower. In space. With the view apparent, already losing sight of Ellie. She had the advantage and was using her powers. Which also was harmful to her. It would make her recovery time even worse.
He should have expected someone to stop him. This was an apparent superhero thing in space. But running gave first onto the green-skinned man. That wasn’t on his bingo list.
“My apologies, I was not expecting you to round the corner so fast. My name is Martian Manhunter. I’ve come to be of assistant”
“No. I just have to find her; she she ran off. I can’t find her. This place is too big. I don’t know what to do”?
“She’s made herself known in the conference room. I’d be more than happy to escort you there.”
His heart was pounding and his mind was racing. What was Ellie going to do? He had carefully on the spot figured out his. All things the council had brought up in those awful meetings. What chaos would she unleash?
So instead of speaking anymore. He just nodded and let himself be led on. This guy wasn’t human, Danny just felt like he could trust him.
By the time they were in the conference room. Ellie had transformed.
She transformed.
Out of all the things she could do. Did she not feel how depleted her reserves were?
No the worst thing she was doing. Was turning her head and smirking right at him.
“I’ll tell you my demand.” He could feel the tension. Hell. He didn’t even know what she wanted. “For me not to tattle to the” her smirk getting larger and looking straight at him “ghost king. I demand a puppy”
“Danielle phantom don-“
“Where did the last name phantom come from” stressing the next word “Daniel.”
“Danielle. You can’t just run off like that. Not just decide to make a demand. What if the apartment doesn’t allow pets? Does Jazz even want a puppy?”
“It’s a puppy or I tell the king everything. Even about the missile”
Danny had only mentioned that about a month ago at the last meet-up. The story about the GIW and the anti-ecto missile. How they barely stopped it. That he had to convince Skulker and Johnny not to eat them out to the council. No way they’d ignore the missile being launched even if it hadn’t hit.
“You can’t just blackmail yourself a puppy.”
“And you apparently can’t have a conversation about the consequences of a certain procedure. Can you mister Ambassador” At least she’s playing that part along? He could do without the questions this was arising.
This really needed to be done in a room without the eyes. He swears some of these people actually seemed amused at this.
“Neither of us asked for our positions in the court. Can we please have a private conversation about this”
“And we can talk about how you blew up the portal back in amity.” Now she was just trying to get their attention on him.
“Everyone knows not to be around the lab. The great hot dog revolution scared them all away. Blowing up the portal was our best bet. I couldn’t trust my wack job donors with it”
“And let’s not forget about your government lab break-ins. How many of those have you led.”
“Danielle. Please stop. Let’s not sit out my dirty laundry for everyone to see.”
“It’s only fair. You outed me as a princess” Her eyes were glowing, and she was floating even higher.
“I panicked. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want this position. But no, the realm choose me. We were in a bad situation. The only hope was those three on the roof. Two of them death touched. All I could do was try and attract their attention. What better way than to subtle threaten”?
“Then I get to demand a puppy I’ll claim I panicked as a reason.”
He felt it before the signs became apparent. She was maybe only floating a foot or two above the table. But her little to no signature dropped.
Trench coat man could definitely tell something was up. The way his eyes zoned into her.
Danny didn’t hesitate. Jumping on the table to grab Ellie as she de-transformed catching her as she passed out.
Well.
All eyes were on him.
“Umm. You guys. Can we like continue or something? Or we’ll. I’m sure there is something you want to ask. I can probably maybe possibly answer. Ummm. But like she’s out”
“Is the universe actually being threatened?” one of the green ones asked. He had a mask on. But there were two of these people.
“I mean yea. Like. You guys opened a portal into the realm, inviting criminals and stuff to the mortal plane. The portal opened in a bad spot. It’s not their fault humans are squishy. Ellie was strapped down to a table. Plus like the realm already didn’t like you guys. Something about stolen pools of ectoplasm and apparently previous summons. The whole mind-control rock thing I destroyed. That also didn’t help your guys case.”
“You do realize I have to report this to oa” he spoke again. Clearly not directed at him. Seeing as he looked everywhere but the middle of the conference table he was sitting on.
“Who exactly is that? Too many people already know about the realm. Mortals really aren’t meant to know we exist.”
“They are the heads of the lantern cr-”
“That means nothing to me. Let’s assume I know nothing and no one. I didn’t even know this league existed up until like what 4ish hours ago.”
He really didn’t need these looks right now.
“I didn’t choose to be born to mad scientists who sold my sister to the government to be experimented on. Don’t blame me for not being allowed to watch the news. Who are you to try to get tied up in this mess”?
The way they were looking at him was just complete shock. Who knew the news mattered so much to people?
“Essentially intergalactic cops”
“Yea no”
“It’s bad enough you lot know about the realms. I don’t want cops involved. The less the better. Humans are nosy enough. We don’t need other species aware of us.
The gods of this realm, members of the afterlife, and the extreme occultists know of our existence. Do you know how many times people have attempted to summon the master of time?
One was too much. This realm is already nosy don’t make it even nosier.
If they show up here, I’m out. Good luck with the council on your own. They’re more destructive and deader than me. If you absolutely have to tell them. I don t want to know. No cops around me or my sisters.
And in case anyone forgot. I am the one who unfortunately helps decides this universe's fate.”
It was so silent I’m the room you could hear a pin drop. Or in this case the mumbling of the trench coat man “Bloody hell there are three of them” grabbed his attention.
The door opened to reveal Black Bat and most importantly it was Jazz.
***
“Danny. Are you guys, okay?”
Danny didn’t verbally answer her. Looking over at him she wasn’t surprised. He looked exhausted and was desperately avoiding the open windows. His obsession must have kicked in.
She was even more concerned with the fact Ellie was passed out on top of him. Breathing far less than how she normally did. Given her need to breathe was more or less not needed it wasn’t too concerning, just showed how she wasn’t hiding her out non-human nature.
Black bat had informed her of the princess status being revealed, jazz certainly hoped that wasn’t the reason for them being active. She shouldn’t have spent all that time in pandoras haunt discussing ways to find Danny and Ellie. They all feared the worst when the explosion occurred, and they were met with radio silence.
Jazz had pandoras personal summons. Rather than discuss in her cramped dorm she had gone with Pandora.
Only to return after Frostbite came to tell her he was in Gotham to find a vigilante in her dorm room.
Black Bat also mentioned Danny claimed to be an ambassador. Jazz had the feeling that she knew he lied and was telling her to keep it up.
“Why are you sitting on a table with Ellie passed out on you?”
“She overused her reserves.”
“Let’s get the two of you out of here. They have a room from what I understand of the situation.”
“Yes, they do” the Martian manhunter replied “I’d be happy to assist you three.”
Jazz looked over at him. Tilting her head just a smudge. Danny shook his head no; the alien was not a ghost in disguise. She tiled it the other way. Danny nodded yes. He did actually trust him enough that he wouldn’t kill them off the bat.
She was aware they all knew they had a secret conversation. She also didn’t care. Her priority was getting these two safe and sound.
“No. You can help those two to the room. I’m sure black bat would be willing to take me in a second. My siblings are clearly exhausted, and I have a few things that need to be said.”
As her little siblings left. The tension grew as she turned away from the door and towards the crowd of supposed heroes. She didn’t give any of them a chance to speak.
“Let me make one thing straight. I don’t care who you are or what power you have. Danny may control your fate with the realm. But you mess with him, and you deal with me, and I will go straight to Pandora.
She can convince the king otherwise. He trusts her judgment.
Neither Danny nor Ellie accepted their position. Both were tricked or forced into them.
Danny does his best.
Imagine being thrown into a world where he makes new allies, and some enemies then has to keep a race that thrives of destruction. Have no concept of death anymore and are way stronger than humans. He keeps them from destroying amity.
Then he had to stop the guys in white and the nutjobs that gave birth to us from killing and dissecting these beings.
I know he gave you, his demands. Frostbite is aware as well” aware Danny was going to give some. Not that they needed that information. “Just do what Danny wants. He doesn’t need to be involved anymore; you know what needs to happen. Just do it. Don’t get others involved and they’ll be no problems. Danny may not want his position.”
Time to seal the deal.
“But he is one hell of an ambassador.”
With that, she followed black bat to her siblings.

I never did explain my concept for Halfa!jazz
Basically the idea is as follows:
Danny, being the curious young lad he is, goes to check out the portal but jazz catches him in the act. He insists on taking a look inside but she tells him no. He pushes further and eventually convince her to let him but only on the condition they do so together. She doesn’t want him getting hurt or breaking something on her watch.
Both fenton siblings suit up and enter the portal and Danny accidentally presses the button. Jazz, watching, feels everything slow down and pushes Danny out of the way as the portal sparks to life.
Danny is safe but only for a few moments as he watches in shock as his sister gets fried alive right in front of him. Except she doesn’t stay dead.
She stumbles out with light blue hair and glowing orange eyes and at first he doesn’t recognize her, but the 14 year old can certainly piece things together.
“Jazz?”
And she’s scared. He’s terrified. They both kinda do the whole “screaming when they see eachother” trope.
Dqnny and Jazz freak out but no one is blaming eachother (she just died for Pete’s sake.) the two of them eventually figure out she can turn back but they’re both shaken up. It’s not everyday you turn intangible.
Jazz and Danny were both skeptical of ghosts before but now they know they’re real. But then the portal is shaking and making strange noises.
It’s clear what they must now do.
~~~
Other notes!:
-Danny is terrible at keeping secrets but he’s trying his best for his sister. Sam and Tucker know he’s been sneaking out of classes, but they don’t know it’s to hunt ghosts with “Jazzy Phantom”
-He stores the Fenton thermos in his locker so no one can trace the thermos back to her. Jazz is very good at keeping her identity protected. She’s pretty much thought of every precaution.
-jazz is more “talk first, punch later” if she can talk it out and sort the issue without fighting, there’s a good chance she will. 9/10 chances are that she’ll end up digging into the trauma a ghost might’ve had in their past life.
“And how does that make you feel?”
“TERRIBLE! He dumped me for a dog! A. DOG.”
-her power set is similar but slightly different to Danny’s. She’s not able to use her ecto blast right away, but she IS able to create many doubles of herself early on which comes in handy when she’s trying to psyche her opponent out.
Her fighting style is more dependent on defense and wearing the opponent down with a plan rather than rushing in guns blazing.
~~
That’s basically all I have right now but I’m happy to answer more questions (and possibly do art requests ;) ) for this au!
Happy Holiday Truce @ghozteevee !
I'm so sorry about the wait! I'd say the holidays got away from me, but I think procrastination is pretty true-to-form for me. Something I'll definitely work on in the New Year. I really hope it's still January 3rd for you!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this little story <3 I took some inspo from two of your prompts: post identity reveal family outing and sibling bonding. The sibling bonding is in the first quarter or so, the parental bonding is in the last bit. Also, the conclusion definitely ran away from me! Very Brother Bear vibes up in here. I hope that's okay!
Enjoy! :3
Word Count: 3280
Danny gasped awake with a shiver, barely catching the green of his eyes as it caught on the shiny, canvassed ceiling of their tent. His breath fogged in front of him, visible in the quickly dimming glow. It served as a warning of what he already knew had awoken him, but it was nice to get the confirmation anyway: there was a ghost nearby.
He rubbed the crust from his eyes as he allowed his brain time to wake up the rest of the way. The good news was that it didn’t feel like anything overly powerful. The bad news was that if it tripped his Ghost Sense, then it was powerful enough—and more than likely causing havoc, because it was clearly feeling some big emotions and those emotions usually amounted to some brand of anger. It also felt distinctly feral, and given their locale, it was safe to bet it was an animal spirit of some kind. Those could be especially unpredictable, and he wasn’t in the mood.
Danny looked over at the sleeping bag where his sister slept—seeing in the dark hadn’t been a problem for a long time, with or without the aid of glowing eyes—and he watched the slow rise and fall of her chest as she quietly snored. Now, whether or not to wake her was the question. The Ghost Assault Vehicle would be the safest place for her if things went haywire, but undoubtedly she’d be worried and clingy and want to help, which he also wasn’t in the mood for.
Ultimately, though, safety overruled whatever annoying sibling feelings she might stir up. Danny dislodged himself from his own sleeping bag and crawled across the floor to her, the waterproof fabric beneath him making rustling noises all the way.
“Psst,” he whispered, setting a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Jazz.”
“Whazzat?” she asked, jerking. “Danny?”
“Hey. There’s a ghost.”
Her eyes blew open. “Like, here? Now?”
Yeah, maybe he could’ve handled that better. “Not yet,” he amended. “But I’m heading out. You should probably get in the Gav, just in case.”
“The G-A-V, Danny, not the ‘Gav.’” It was an old argument, one they hadn’t really argued over in years. Danny figured that Jazz probably found it endearing now that she was out of the house and missing him for most of the year. She sighed as she sat up and reached for the ground, hands fumbling towards her glasses. “You’re going alone? At least tell Mom and Dad first. And help me with a light, please.”
Danny summoned a ball of ectoplasm and sent it floating up towards the domed ceiling, where it lit the whole tent in a dim, soft blue. He grimaced. “I was kind of hoping you’d do that.”
Danny’s parents had been informed of his little secret only a week ago, and all-in-all it had gone down pretty well. The timing had been strategic, of course; Danny was going off to college at the end of the summer, and his parents needed to know why their newest ghostly ally would be disappearing from Amity for the entire school year (barring holidays and emergencies, if all went well). Going to college was a failsafe he knew he hadn’t needed, but wanted anyway—seeing alternate timelines where his parents were accepting of his after-school activities was very different from actually experiencing it in his own, after all. They’d reacted much as expected, though. Surprised. Excited. Sad. Guilt-stricken.
Jazz looked at him with something that bordered on pity, and it made him squirm. “I can if that’s what you really want, Danny,” she allowed. “But you know why I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Okay, no need to get all mopey about it,” Danny deflected, clambering up to his knees (the tent wasn’t tall enough to stand, which kind of put a damper on his whole ‘stoic’ front. Not that he’d admit that). “It just…still feels weird. But I can do it!”
Jazz raised her hands in fake surrender and fought a smile. “Yeah, yeah, you’re a big boy now, I got it.” She unzipped her sleeping bag and cast the cover aside. “I’ll go hide. Though…if it’s big enough that you needed to wake us up, maybe you should do more than just let them know.”
“Like?” Danny asked, just to be obstinate. He knew what Jazz was hinting at.
Jazz rolled her eyes. “Like ask for help, you big dummy.”
Danny sighed. It’d be the first time working with them since…“I don’t know if we’re at that level yet, Jazz.”
“You were before you told them,” Jazz pointed out with a raised brow.
“It’s different,” he stressed.
“Okay, well, different or not, you need to tell them you’re leaving, at the very least.” Jazz crawled over her sleeping bag towards the door and unzipped it with a practiced, fluid motion. “After you,” she said with a dramatic gesture towards the dark campfire and forest beyond.
Danny grumbled as he passed, and once out of the threshold he let the ectoplasmic ball lighting the inside of the tent wink out, just to hear Jazz’s indignant “Hey!” from behind him. Seconds later he heard (and saw) her flashlight click on behind him; ectoplasm-powered and too big for its own good, Danny was sure that thing created its own light pollution. He refused to use it on principle.
Danny walked the short trek to his parents’ tent and crouched to get the zipper, deciding against intangibility just in case one of his parents was awake enough to notice a shadowy silhouette phase through the wall. On the other side, Jack snored with the force of a train engine; Danny could swear it was rattling the zipper out of his hands as he fumbled with it.
The inside was dark, but Jazz’s flashlight outside cast long shadows across the floor. Danny moved out of the way so that the light could hit his parent’s faces; Danny knew his mother would have in ear plugs, so this was really the only safe way of waking her beyond shaking, which Danny knew from experience could be…startling, sometimes.
He watched her brows furrow before her eyes squinted open. She rubbed at her eyes with one hand and took an ear plug out with the other. “Danny? What happened?”
“Um, there’s a ghost,” Danny said (muttered, more like). “I was gonna go—”
“Hold on, I can’t hear you,” Maddie said, turning to shake her husband. “Jack, wake up. Danny needs something.”
“Whazzat?” Jack yelled, in much the same way as Jazz. Like father, like daughter. “What happened?”
“Uh,” Danny said, feeling tenser now with both their attentions on him. “There’s a ghost.” He pointed north. “Half a mile that way, maybe. Getting closer. I was gonna go deal with it, but I told Jazz to get in the RV just in case.”
Maddie frowned. “You were gonna go deal with it? By yourself?”
Danny glanced behind him, where Jazz was giving him a thumbs up from across the campsite. “Um, no,” he lied, turning back around. “You guys can come. If you want. You don’t have to.”
“Of course we want to, Danno!” Jack shouted. He had positively lit up, like grogginess wasn’t and had never been an issue for him. “I’ll go get the Fenton Grappler!”
“Do you know what kind of ghost it is, sweetie?” Maddie asked, still watching him. “What equipment do we need to bring?”
Danny hadn’t thought that far ahead. “It’s an animal, I think. It feels pretty feral. It’s not that strong, either, but—”
“Animal spirits can be unpredictable,” Maddie said, echoing Danny’s earlier considerations. “Alright, we’ll bring the capturing gear.” She paused. “If…that’s okay?”
Danny almost laughed; he’d never heard his mom sound so unsure when it came to ghost hunting. “That sounds good, Mom,” he said. “I’ll go get my boots on.”
— — —
Danny led the way through the timber with his parents, feeling a little silly in human form but unwilling to change nonetheless. It was nice to walk, sometimes, even when flying would be quicker and less taxing. And he could pass his feet intangibly through those pesky fallen branches and thorny bushes, so really it wasn’t all that worse than strolling down an Amity sidewalk. There was, he told himself, no other reason he might want to stay human in this scenario. He certainly wouldn’t feel uncomfortable otherwise.
“Are we getting close, honey?” Maddie asked after helping Jack over a rotted trunk.
The irony wasn’t lost on Danny; he’d asked the same question on the RV ride there. He felt around in his chest, feeling for the speed at which his core buzzed it’s steady warning, the strength of the tug. “Nearly there,” he promised.
“That’s a real neat trick, Danny-boy,” Jack praised. Danny could hear the smile in his voice. “You know, I always wondered how Phantom heard wind of a ghost faster than we did. Didn’t I, Mads?”
Danny kicked at some dead leaves and sticks at the ground, embarrassed. “That ghost alarm you guys developed works similarly. It maybe doesn’t have quite the range, though.”
Maddie hummed, contemplating. “And that’s what woke you up tonight?”
“Yeah.”
Maddie reached out to set her hand on his shoulder, stopping him. He closed his eyes before he turned to face her, bracing. If he hadn’t caught on to the concern in her voice before, he was definitely feeling it now. “How often do ghosts wake you up?” she asked, quiet.
Danny opened his mouth to lie and then thought better of it. That was a habit he was determined to break with his family, whether they’d like the answer or not. “Once or twice a night,” he admitted, slowly. When Maddie made a pained noise, he quickly added, “Usually it’s nothing to worry about, though, so I just go back to sleep. Like, at least half the time.”
She bit her lip. Guilty. “You shouldn’t have had to deal with that, hun.”
“Can we not do this?” Danny pleaded. These were the kind of conversations he’d been trying to avoid for the past week. “It’s my fault for not telling you guys, not your fault for not noticing.”
“We know that’s how you feel, Danny,” his mom allowed. She shared a glance with Jack from over her shoulder. “But we can’t help but feel like some of that lies on us, too. For noticing the clues but not acting on them in the ways we should have.”
“We want to know now, though,” Jack said, coming up behind his wife. “Warts and all.”
“Is this an intervention?” Danny asked, nervous. It felt like his core was constricting in his chest. “Because I get enough of that from Jazz.”
“It’s not an intervention,” his mom denied, pinching the bridge of her nose. “It’s just…Why haven’t you turned into Phantom yet, Danny?”
Danny wasn’t sure if he heard that right. It felt like the conversation had spun 180. “What?” he asked.
“This isn’t exactly an easy hike, sweetie,” she said. “Mostly uphill, through brambles and across fallen trees.”
“It’s been fine,” he argued. “I’ve been phasing through most of it.”
“If we were Tucker or Sam, you would have flown us there,” Maddie finished, and, well, he couldn’t deny that logic. “So why haven’t you?”
Danny frowned. “I didn’t think we were at that stage yet.”
“We’re not on a date, Danny; we’re your parents,” she sighed, shaking her head. “There is nothing you could do that would make me stop loving you. I changed your diapers; I should know.”
Danny frowned. If she had said that two weeks ago, before they’d known, he might not have believed her. He did believe her this time, but it was marred by something else—this aching, squeezing feeling in his chest, riddling his core with fear and anxiety and confusion and—
Oh. That wasn’t from him.
“Look out!” Danny yelled, grabbing hold of his parents and shoving them to the ground. His shield came up just in time: a glowing black bear, absolutely massive for its species, came barreling down upon it, scratching and growling and baring sharp, sharp teeth with saber-toothed tiger levels of length. He flinched against its strength but held steady, keeping his hands in front of him to feed ectoplasm into the bubble that surrounded them.
Perhaps realizing that its efforts were futile, the bear backed away, roared once in warning, and then took off running in the opposite direction, taking a moment to pause awkwardly at a hollowed tree stump before disappearing over the hill.
“Okay,” Danny breathed, allowing the shield to dissipate. There was that conversation out the window. He was almost grateful for it; he’d always been better at fighting than he was at talking, and staying human during this battle was quickly becoming a moot point, anyhow. “Alright, here’s the plan: you guys follow from back here, and I’ll fly up and cut it off from the front. Sound good?”
He was about to run off then, but Maddie grabbed his chin and twisted him to face her. Her eyes scanned over him faster than Danny could even blink, checking for injuries at a near-inhuman speed.
Once he got over his shock at being grabbed, he started to squirm. “Mom, stop. I’m fine,” he murmured, trying to turn away to hide the way embarrassment was quickly flooding his cheeks with red.
Once satisfied, Maddie nodded and placed a chaste kiss to his forehead. “Be safe,” she commanded in a no-nonsense voice, like he’d be grounded for a week if he came back injured. Then, she finally let him go.
“You too,” he said, turning away. Squeezing his eyes shut, he transformed—focusing on the way his core bloomed outward instead of the stares on his back—and took off into the air.
Going on a bear hunt. He was sure there was a kid’s song about that.
Danny followed the tug in his gut from the sky; it was even stronger now that he’d transformed and they’d gotten…acquainted, for lack of a better word. He couldn’t shake that weird anxious worry in his gut—the one that seemed to be emanating from the bear in waves—but he could fight through it, and that’s what mattered.
Animal spirits were all instinct and emotion, wrapped up into something tight and cohesive that ectoplasm wouldn’t have trouble latching onto. Usually that something was governed by anger, which, as far as Danny knew, was the strongest emotion in a living animal’s arsenal. Human spirits could end up governed by that too, but there was more nuance to the reasoning behind anger with a person: jealousy, revenge, even loneliness could rearrange into different flavors of the same base emotion. It was easier to assuage because of its complicatedness; when there was a direct physical link to someone’s anger, there was something to solve.
It was more difficult to get angry animal spirits to move on. They were angry at everything and nothing all at once. The whole world fueled their anger, and so there was little that could calm them down.
Fear, though…He’d never met an animal spirit governed by fear, or worry, or whatever anxious instinct this bear’s ectoplasm was releasing. Maybe he could turn this into a happy ending, for both him and the bear. He hoped he could, anyway.
Danny dived down in front of it, and from the way it twisted backwards and picked up its pace in the direction opposite of him (the direction towards his parents), it seemed the bear could sense him, too. He went intangible and picked up the pace, letting trees and leaves fly through him at a dizzying pace. Finally, the forest opened into a little clearing, and Danny threw up a green wall at the end of it, where the bear was trying to escape. It skid to a halt so fast it left deep gashes in the dirt, dropped something fuzzy and black from its mouth, and turned to face him.
Danny froze. There, curled beneath the ghost bear’s legs, was a single cub. It peered out from behind her, oblivious to the danger and curious as to the reason for their night’s interruption. More importantly, it did not glow like it’s mother. It was still alive.
Mother Bear growled a warning at the same time Danny’s parents started crashing through the brush nearest her. “Stop!” he shouted out, holding out a hand despite his parents not being able to see him. “Uh, stand down!”
“Danny?” His dad called. “What’s going on?”
Mother Bear was looking increasingly frantic. Panicking a little himself—whether from the emotions that he was accidentally leaching off her or the situation, he wasn’t sure—Danny made a split-second decision and thrust a dome over the top of her and her cub. It would shield them from any sudden bear attacks, true, but it also served as makeshift protection from any Fenton weaponry.
He trusted his parents not to shoot him. He wasn’t sure if he trusted them not to shoot Mother Bear.
“It’s safe now!” Danny called to his parents. “Um, leave your guns outside the clearing! And walk slowly!”
Danny was almost surprised to hear them listening. He didn’t know why. He had to stop doubting them.
“Oh,” Maddie said when she breached the tree line. Mother Bear rotated to face her and Jack as they stepped out, gnashing her too-long teeth and backing further over her cub to put it safely beneath her belly. It peeked out from beneath her paws. “It’s…a mother.”
She sounded shocked. Danny concurred.
“Come over here,” Danny told his parents. “Behind me. I’m gonna try something.”
He stepped forward as his parents came around the dome. Mother Bear watched them walk until they’d settled behind Danny, and already he could feel that fear worry stress easing, just from having all potential predators in-sight instead of surrounding her.
“Danny,” Maddie warned when he took another step forward. “Bears are extremely protective of their young.”
“I know,” Danny murmured, keeping his voice low. He inched forward, getting lower to the ground as he walked. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
Mother Bear snarled statically, touching on Ghost Speak but unable to form full coherence. Worry, is what Danny was able to read from it. Worry. Baby. Danger.
Danny switched tactics, changing to Ghost Speak as he set his hands gently against the wall of the dome, emanating as many calming emotions as he could summon. Calm. Safe.
She flinched, but her teeth were shortening, growing less sharp. Baby Bear yawned beneath her, a kind of squeaking hum. Almost like a puppy. Like Cujo, maybe.
Calm. Safe. Danny promised, at the same time voicing sentences in English above the Ghost Speak’s static: “It’s okay. You’re safe. I won’t hurt you. I won’t hurt him. You can let go. I’ll protect him. It’s alright.”
Mother Bear swayed, grew smaller. Promise. She growled. Staticked. No-nonsense voice.
Promise. Danny responded.
Baby Bear nuzzled into Mother Bear, and she licked at his cheek as her body grew brighter and began dissipating, moving on. Baby Bear purred and purred.
She looked at Danny. Looked behind him, where his parents stood. Mother? she asked. With the emotions clogging her speech finally gone, he could actually understand her.
Danny nodded. “Yeah. That’s my Mom.”
Good. Mother Bear hummed, closing her eyes. Safe.
She disappeared, her glowing green fragments scattering on the wind.
Danny turned around to face his parents, and for the first time noticed that they were both crying. That was okay. He was crying, too.
He cleared his throat. “So. Anyway. Where’s the nearest Animal Sanctuary?”
Chapter 2: “Allies come in all forms”
It took a couple of days for the Fentons to calibrate the scanners as well as double and triple check that they were safe to use without hurting Danny. After that, Jack and Maddie worked diligently to create a stabilising agent to help Danielle. Danny couldn’t believe that they were finally going to have some closure with Dani and actually help her in the right way. Then, just as all their planning and preparations were coming together, it was time for Danny and Jazz to go back to school.
With the whole end-of-the-world thing, plus the investigation into Vlad, and the Fentons subsequent partnership with the FBI, suffice to say the kids had been allowed to take a couple of weeks off from school. This gave the young ghost hero and his family plenty of time to adjust to their new norm. Even though some people knew Danny's secret identity now, not everyone did and the family as well as the FBI preferred to keep it that way– both to give Danny some semblance of normalcy, and to prevent excitable members of the public from acting foolish.
The Casper High administration knew that because the family had been involved with the Disasteroid task force, the kids were approved for the time off ‘recommendation’ made by the government. The next Monday both kids would be returning to school. For Danny, that meant it was time to accept the fact that he was going to tell Mr. Lancer his secret.
Although the plan had been to keep Danny’s identity top secret, Maddie suggested that they at least tell Mr. Lancer. Not only was he the teacher that sent Danny to detention the most often, he was also the vice principal. As such, he had a big impact on Danny’s grades. Getting him on their side would surely be a big help.
Jazz wasn’t so sure about that, and Danny agreed. Lancer knowing wouldn't change the fact that he was still going to have to skip class to fight troublemaking ghosts all the time.
It was surprisingly Jack who reminded them that their parents were in fact ghost hunters. They could compare their information with Danny’s and update their techniques to hunt ghosts correctly, especially the ones that appeared during school hours. Maddie added that it was okay to ask for help and sharing some of the work would help Danny learn to manage his time better in a way that would aid him not only in school, but in life as well.
After a lot of back and forth, in the end even Jazz saw it as a good solution. When Danny told Sam and Tucker, at first they were sceptical of the plan, just like he had been, however, with a bit of explaining, they understood why it was a good idea. They knew their friend needed better time management skills after all.
Now, the night before the first day of school, the Fenton family was once again sitting at their kitchen table planning something. It always seemed like the best time for these conversations was over dinner.
“So, just to be clear,” Danny began his summary. “You guys are going to drive us to school in the morning so you can meet with Lancer after first period –which I do have with him. And if anybody asks why you’re hanging around the school, you’re going to say that you’re tracking ghostly activity, right?” “Yeah, that’s the plan, son. It’s that simple!” Jack replied confidently. “You know, you two still need to say that you and ‘Danny’ have finally decided to work together.” Jazz’s air quotes around her brother's name let their parents know she was specifically referring to Danny Phantom. “What are you talking about Jazz? I think just about the whole world knows that...” Danny trailed off when it hit him that she meant Phantom, not Fenton.
“Well, technically, they know that we as a family–and the rest of Amity Park, for that matter–worked with you, Little Brother. But Mom and Dad haven’t exactly said anything official about a permanent truce, or anything else really…” Jazz clarified. “I mean, the people that know, you know… they, well, they know that’s not entirely true, but it’s also not a lie… I mean, they are working with their son...”
“I see what you mean, darling, and you’re right…” Maddie rubbed her chin in thought. “We could mention it at the school before we meet with Mr. Lancer–if anyone asks, that is–that the Fentons are working permanently with the ghost boy. And once we explain your… situation to Mr. Lancer, well, he would understand why we were telling people now.”
They hadn’t thought about how it would look, working with Danny Phantom out of nowhere. They hadn’t thought they needed to make some sort of announcement, but they did. In order to keep people from wondering why, in order to keep Danny’s secret safe.   “Your Mom is right! That would also help to keep your secret, well, secret… wait...” said Jack, getting confused with the whole conversation. Danny sighed, “I guess, you guys are right… but please… don’t overdo it… I can handle it, I have been handling all of it fine.” He was beginning to worry that if their parents allied themselves with him, they were going to be in danger, or something along those lines.
“Don’t worry Little Brother, I have anticipated the most likely questions that people might ask after they hear that our parents are working with Phantom and written them down on these cue cards,” at this she pulled a small stack of cards out of thin air and handed them to their parents, “as well as some pre-planned answers. Stick to these and you won’t overdo it.”  “Oh, that’s great, Jazzy–pants!” said Jack, with a big smile. His children never ceased to amaze him with their ingenuity. He was so proud.
“We’ll read over these, don’t worry Jazz. And thank you,” Maddie added, smiling proudly as well. “Okay… I guess that’s it then,” said Danny feeling a bit defeated. There was nothing he could really do to dissuade his parents.  “Yes, and now it’s getting late, so… kids, bedtime!” Maddie clapped her hands together with cheerful authority. The two teens nodded, said their respective ‘goodnights,’ and went upstairs.
Maddie could see that Danny was still nervous about tomorrow, and she didn’t blame him. Since finding out the truth and helping with the cure for Dani, they had gained a better understanding of how difficult things had been for their son. None of it was easy, but now they had a better idea of what it meant to be a halfa. Although Danny and his parents had learned a lot more about him and what he could do, they also knew that just like Vlad, Danny would continue to grow and develop more powers. Powers that they now knew they were going to be prepared and ready to help him with. After all, they had already managed to isolate Danny’s ghostly signature and alter their weapons so they wouldn't affect him, or Danielle for that matter. Now they only needed to wait for the weekend to finally find Dani.
While Maddie and Jack cleaned up from dinner, the kids met in Danny’s room. Jazz knew her little brother well enough to realise he wasn’t going to just tell someone that he was scared, even though he was. Not that Lancer wouldn’t believe it, but of how he would react. For that reason, for the day that awaits him tomorrow, and the fact that the family had agreed to postpone finding Danielle for the weekend, and knowing that Danny probably wouldn’t sleep well tonight, she went to her brother’s room. There Danny confirmed Jazz’s suspicions, she gently coaxed him into talking out his worries and she did her best to reassure him. Jazz promised that her cue cards would work and that he should give Mr. Lancer more credit. Even though he doesn’t always seem fair –showing favouritism to the football players or occasionally turning a blind eye to Dash’s bullying– she knew that he had helped Danny with his grades, and cared about him as his student; being a half ghost wouldn’t change that.
When Jack and Maddie finally went upstairs to get ready for bed, they overheard part of their children’s conversation. While Maddie was a bit upset with herself for not noticing just how nervous Danny was, she was grateful that Jazz had. Jack also noticed that some comfort was being passed around and he felt a surge of pride that his kids had become such kind and sensitive people.
When the next day arrived, the Fentons set their plan into motion. Jack and Maddie drove their kids to school, right on schedule, although their plans took a slight deviation after that. Rather than waiting in the parking lot with the excuse of ghost hunting, they ended up exchanging insurance information with some of the other parents. As usual, Jack’s driving was… enthusiastic. Sorting things out took them the whole first period, and by the time they got to Mr. Lancer’s office, Danny and Jazz were already there waiting for them.
“Good morning Mr. and Mrs. Fenton,” Mr. Lancer greeted them. “So glad you could join us.” “Morning!” Maddie and Jack replied at the same time, sharing a smile at the coincidence. “You two said that you needed to discuss something with me, but I’m still not entirely sure why these two,” at this Mr. Lancer gestured to where Jazz and Danny were sitting in front of his desk, “need to be here. All Jasmine would tell me is that it's a family matter, and Daniel here seems to be on the edge of a nervous breakdown.”
He looked back and forth between the kids and the parents appraisingly before closing the door to his office and offering them a seat.  With the whole family finally seated in front of Mr. Lancer's desk, Maddie began the explanation, “Well, Jazz is right, this is a family affair. And it’s about Danny...” She checked on her son who seemed to be calming down now that his parents were here. “I see...” said Mr. Lancer, pausing at his desk. “Is this because the school year is about to finish and you’re worried about his grades?” He glanced suspiciously between Danny and his parents. It wouldn't be the first time he’d seen a family rally together to help save a struggling student from being held back a year.
“What? No!” Maddie spluttered. “Well, yes… we are worried about it, but that’s not why we’re here today.” It wasn’t hard to understand why he’d come to that conclusion. It was in part why they were having this conversation, after all.  “Please, Mr. Lancer, wait until after my parents finish. Then you’ll understand what this is all about.” Jazz pleaded, hands clasped in front of her. “It’s all right, Jazz.” Danny murmured, giving her arm a calming squeeze before directing his gaze to his teacher “I kinda figured Lancer would bring that up… I mean… this whole year has been...” “Unprecedented, nightmarish, messy, crazy, ect., ect.?” Mr. Lancer supplied with a raised eyebrow, finally taking a seat at his desk. He seemed like he just caught up with the fact that he was still standing up unnecessarily.
“Yeah. All that. And ghostly…” Danny muttered the last part under his breath, avoiding eye contact with Lancer.
Maddie cleared her throat softly, “Mr. Lancer, if I may… please?” She had noticed that Danny was starting to feel bad and decided it was time to intervene. His grades were as important to him as fighting ghosts, even though it might not look like that from the outside. “Yes, of course, Mrs. Fenton. By all means, please tell me what this is all about.” Mr. Lancer had also noticed Danny’s change in attitude and decided to focus more on the parents, mainly on Maddie seeing as she was the one taking the lead. Jack sat next to her in silent support, but his worry for Danny was plain to see. “Well...” Maddie began, glancing back at Danny who nodded.
Mr. Lancer took notice of the exchange and was about to comment when Maddie finally spoke, interrupting his thoughts.
“Danny is ‘Danny Phantom.’” she said.  “What?” Mr. Lancer spluttered, caught off guard. “What in the name of the Scarlet Pimpernel! That doesn’t make any sense… What’s really going on here? I would have believed something like this from young Daniel…” he stopped, noticing that Maddie seemed to sincerely believe what she was saying.
“Danny,” the boy murmured under his breath. He was a bit annoyed that Mr. Lancer still called him ‘Daniel,’ even in moments like this. Especially in moments like this. “It’s Danny.”
Mr. Lancer looked back and forth between Maddie and her son. He began to worry that something else might be happening, something that the family either doesn’t know about, or doesn’t know how to explain. Because although his student being a ghostly superhero would explain a lot, it was impossible. Wasn’t it?
“Just show him,” Jazz suggested in a loud whisper. She knew that Mr. Lancer would believe him if only he saw it for himself. Knowledge of halfas was global now, so it wouldn’t be hard to make the connection. If they just told him without showing him, he might just think Danny was faking it, using Vlad’s revelation as inspiration.  Danny looked up at his parents who gave him an encouraging nod. “...Fine.” He sounded a bit annoyed to be put in this situation, but proceeded to stand up anyway.
“What are you doi–” Mr. Lancer began to ask. He was getting worried as to why it seemed like everyone knew something he didn’t, because show him what? “Going ghost,” Danny quietly said his catchphrase, transforming into Danny Phantom in a bright flash of light. Mr. Lancer blinked the spots from his eyes, using the silence that followed to process his thoughts. It would seem that their former Mayor wasn’t the only halfa in Amity Park. He had anticipated a few of the more creative kids would probably play pretend at being a ghost and a human at the same time, but never in his wildest dreams could he have anticipated one of his students actually being one.
A single, quiet, “Oh” was all the stunned teacher managed to say.  “Are, are you okay, Mr. Lancer?” Danny prompted, changing back into Fenton and retaking his seat. Maybe that had been a bit too much for him after all.
“You know what Mr. Fenton, that makes a lot of sense...” Mr. Lancer finally said, looking across his desk at Danny. He gave the boy a small, sad, smile, because it did make a lot of sense. “Wait, what?” Danny said, confused. He hadn’t really been expecting that reaction, even though he had assumed that Vlad’s precedent might either help or hurt his situation.
“Well, it does… The skipping school every time there’s a ghost attack, the slacking on your homework, the sleeping in class… All starting around the same time as the ghosts showed up, it makes perfect sense. I’m assuming your whole family knows, and I hope that your parents didn’t know until recently...” Mr. Lancer gave Jack and Maddie a stern look. Just thinking about the hundreds, if not thousands, of times that he saw the Fentons hunting Phantom… it couldn’t be possible, right?
“Of course, we didn’t!” said Maddie quickly. Neither she or Jack wanted this to be like their interrogation with the FBI, they didn’t want to have to defend themselves again. They love their kids, and would do anything to protect them. If they had known it all from the beginning, maybe the thing they needed protection from wouldn’t have been them. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The possibility of losing their kids to child services like the FBI threatened them with at the start had been a rude awakening. “We would never have knowingly hunted our son,” said Jack, the normally jovial man deathly serious. He felt the same as Maddie, remembering how bad the interview with the Feds was, especially at the beginning. “Oh, for the love of… you know what, never mind.” Mr. Lancer shook his head defeatedly. “I’m not going to think about it. I am assuming that isn’t all?”
“You’re right about that,” Maddie sighed, her face serious. “Do you remember when the FBI interviewed our family and practically everyone around us?” She knew she had to say something about it regardless, he would need to understand the conditions that he was bound by now.
Mr. Lancer nodded, allowing her to continue her explanation.
“Well, they know. About Danny... Mr. Lancer, this is highly classified information we’ve just shared with you.” Her eyes pierced his, impressing on him the gravity of the situation. “They said we should keep it secret, only those who already knew and no one else.” “Oh. I see…”  Mr. Lancer’s voice was solemn with understanding. The situation was more serious than what he had originally thought. “So, your friends, Samantha and Tucker...” he raised a questioning brow at Danny. “They know. They’ve known since the beginning, actually.” Danny said with a small shrug.  “Oh, and Valerie knows… Valerie Gray. She found out while we were working on the intangibility transfer device. Well, while her father was working on it, but you know...” he shrugged again.
“I see…” Mr. Lancer nodded. “I understand.” His hunch had been correct, Danny’s friends had been covering for him in class for a while now, and he finally knew why. The mention of Miss Gray was a bit of a surprise, but it made sense if something had happened to reveal Danny’s identity while she and her father had been working on the device. That also meant that the other people who already know are those who were involved with the task force in Antarctica.
“With all that being said, Mr. Lancer,” Maddie called his attention back to her, “while we’re here, we would like your help with Danny’s schedule. I’m sure you’ve noticed that his time management skills could use some improvement.”
“I can agree with that,” Mr. Lancer said, giving Danny a faux stern look.
At this, Jack chimed in, “Now that we know what’s going on, we can help fight the ghosts that appear during school hours. We’ll probably still need to pull him into the field some, though, especially while we’re still getting used to things.”
“Very well, the three of us can continue to discuss a plan, but,” Mr. Lancer glanced up at the clock on the wall, “I think it’s time for Jazz and Danny to go back to class.”
He began to pull some papers out of a drawer in his desk while the Fentons stood up from their chairs. “All right then, I guess we should get going…” Danny said, stretching his arms above his head. He was feeling very relieved that Mr. Lancer was taking it so well and seemed eager to help. He couldn’t stop his smile as he addressed his teacher, “Thank you, Mr. Lancer.”  “Why, whatever for?” he asked with a smile. Mr. Lancer wasn’t exactly sure as to why Danny suddenly seemed more relaxed, but he couldn’t be more proud. He knew that a topic like this one must be hard for the whole family, especially Danny. “Never mind, just… Thank you.” he was still smiling as he slung his backpack over his shoulder.
“Of course,” said Mr. Lancer. He handed Danny and Jazz the papers he had just signed, “Oh, don’t forget these, your hall passes. Just give them to your teachers and your tardiness will be excused. And if there’s anything else I can do… just let me know.”  “Oh, right… Um, thank you,” Danny stuttered out, caught off guard by the kind offer.
Maddie, Jack, and Jazz watched the scene unfold, the three unable to keep the grins off their faces, they knew that all Danny needed was a little understanding and guidance. The three of them exchanged a glance, silently agreeing to each help him in their own ways.
“Let’s go, Little Brother,” Jazz looped her arm through Danny’s and pulled him towards the door, making sure they both had their hall passes. “And thanks again, Mr. Lancer! For everything! Bye, Mom! Bye, Dad!”
“Bye, Sweety!” Maddie called back, “We’ll see you at home later!”
Jack waved, voice booming as he called out, “Bye, kiddos!”
After the kids had gone, the three adults returned to their seats, they had planning to do, after all. Once sitting, Mr. Lancer pulled out a notebook and together they started brainstorming different ways to help Danny, both with school matters as well as ghost fighting activities–because they all knew he wasn’t going to stop anytime soon. They began with an easy schedule that could help Danny better make use of his time. At one point, Lancer proposed to let some of the other teachers know about Danny’s secret, but the Fentons reminded him that the information was highly classified. It’s not the sort of thing you can just go around telling people. They had to fill out so much paperwork with the FBI in order to get approval to tell just him. That’s how Mr. Lancer knew that the issue was very serious. He asked how the FBI was keeping it a secret, but all the Fentons could say was that it was classified, and no, they didn’t know either.
They had been at it for quite a long time when they heard the unmistakable sounds of a fight in the hallway. Mr. Lancer rushed to the door, the Fentons hot on his heels, thankfully, because this wasn’t your average school fight, this was a ghost fight. The three adults arrived at the scene just in time to see none other than Danny Phantom flung into a row of lockers.
Jack and Maddie decided that it was about time they joined in the hunting, that was a big part of their plan, after all. They really needed to be more alert to ghost activity during school hours so Danny could concentrate more in class. Class that Danny certainly wasn’t present for right now, for obvious reasons.
While his parents had stayed to talk with Mr. Lancer, Danny had made his way to his next class. Everything was going well, that is until Danny’s ghost sense went off. He had run out of the classroom, calling a lame excuse to his teacher on the way.
Danny found the ghost in the computer lab, it was none other than Technus. Danny had lost count of which ‘version’ he was supposed to be at this point, and he didn’t really care. Danny only knew that he was up to no good.
Every time Danny fought Technus, he boasted that his plan was better than the last and that he wouldn’t be shouting it out, and each time he failed. This time wasn’t any different. They started in the computer lab, but Danny managed to lure the ghost outside, away from all the technology in the building, only denting a few lockers on the way. Once they were on the lawn, Danny was able to create a distraction and it was in that moment that his parents attacked Technus, weakening him enough that Danny could capture him in the Fenton Thermos.
While the Fentons joined the fight, ecto-guns blazing, it was time for Mr. Lancer to play his part. Danny had probably used an oldie, but a goodie: the Toilet Excuse to get out of class, but it wouldn’t be enough for how long this fight was going to take. He knew which teacher Danny had this period, so he just needed to find a place near that classroom to wait for him and walk him personally back to class. Perhaps he could say that he’d needed the boy’s help carrying some extra textbooks or something. Danny would likely need a place to transform back–something that it would take Mr. Lancer a bit of time to get used to–but he did manage to find a good spot for that.
Once their battle was over, Danny handed the thermos to his parents so they could put Technus back in the Ghost Zone. In turn, his parents gave Danny encouraging nods and proud smiles. It was nice to be appreciated, but Danny really needed to get back to class. He was surprised to find Mr. Lancer waiting for him just inside the school to walk Danny back to his class, fake thanking him for helping with something in his office. When they reached the classroom, Lancer mentioned to Danny’s teacher that he had found Danny just outside the bathroom, and remembered something that he needed help with and Danny was perfect for the job. That explanation to Danny’s teacher was enough to avoid detention again, but it gained him snickers from his classmates. While being the butt of a joke wasn’t ideal, it was a whole lot better than detention. This whole situation might just work out after all.
Danny took a seat at his desk and decided to concentrate as much as possible on today’s lesson. Sam and Valerie tried to ask what happened, but Danny only gave them a quick thumbs up and a smile to let them know it went well. He would give them a more detailed explanation after class or during their lunch break. It was times like these that they really missed Tucker, but they knew that with him being the mayor, private tutoring was the best option for him.
At least for the rest of the day Danny wouldn’t need to worry about getting detention or fighting ghosts. He knew that his parents were going to be patrolling around the school, Lancer had his back at school, and the ghost of the day-or at least for the time being- was trapped in the Fenton Thermos. He could just relax with his girlfriend and Valerie, and he would get to do a video call with Tucker during the lunch break.
Things were looking good, after all this time, even though it had been a lot of new things to get used to. Danny never thought –even when he had seen it before– that it would feel so good telling people his secret. Of course, he wasn’t just going to go around telling people left and right, it had to be to select people. Letting Mr. Lancer into the fold had been more strategy than anything else, but it was still nice to have him on the team.
The day ended without further incident. Team Phantom enjoyed talking with their mayor friend during lunch. They caught him up with the situation at the school and told him how Lancer had reacted to the news. Tucker, likewise, updated them with the news of his personal proposal.
Because the last mayor had been a crazy halfa, and his teenage ghost hunters were fired and dismissed, the whole town had been under siege by ghost attacks. Something needed to be done, and it was going to take a lot of work for the city to recover. Tucker, as the mayor selected after a major disaster like this, would have to step up to the plate. It would be a full time job, with no time to go to school. So, the rest of the politicians and personnel of the city council decided that the best course of action was that he should have private tutors, since he hadn't graduated from high school just yet. Tucker, since winning the election and realising, or rather learning, that he wouldn’t be able to go to Casper high any longer, began working on a proposal. It was as follows: he would serve as mayor until the next election, at which point he would leave his position until later in life, should he wish to run for re-election. With his parents' help, Tucker had proposed his return to Casper high in the next school year to the city council. They had approved it, but in the meantime, Tucker had to pass his classes and learn more about politics, especially those of Amity Park. He was allowed to communicate with his old friends only during breaks, however his private tutors made sure that his schedule was similar to what he was used to. Those tutors also knew about his friends and about Danny’s secret identity, but they wouldn't say a word, not only because they got a ‘friendly’ warning from the FBI, but because they had always considered him a hero, even before he had become recognized as both a local and global hero by everyone else.
Danny Fenton was happy with how everything seemed to be working out. His parents and Mr. Lancer had come up with a good plan to help him out during school hours. They helped him to create a better way to manage his time after school that not only would allow him to keep fighting ghosts when needed, but to also just be a teen. He would have time to take care of his responsibilities, homework and chores and the like, as well as to have fun with his friends. Danny never thought that all he needed was a little help with time management. His grades were already improving, and with the rest of the school year to go, he knew he would pass his classes.
Just like that, the time flew by and the week turned into the weekend. It was finally time to look for Danielle. To be continued :D :D
Which one of my WIPs would you like to see for next week's WIP Wednesday?
Bring Me Home: Danny and Tim are online friends who know each other's secret identities. Previous Arc had the Young Justice stranded in Amity for a few days. Coming up next—Jack and Maddie discover the truth about Phantom.
Ghost!Robin: Jason is haunted by the ghost of Robin. He didn't know until Danny revealed it an hour or so into their first meeting. He's not happy about it, either. Coming up next—Frostbite examines Jason and Robin.
Answer My Call: Danny had to flee Amity, the GIW, and his parents. Sam snuck him a cellphone and gave Jazz the number. She texts him once a day, never getting a response. Jason returns from a mission with the Outlaws to find dozens of alarming text messages and can't help but involve himself. Coming up next—Jazz explains what's going on to Jason.
Carry Your Heart: Danny meets Jason while he's dead and existing in the Realms. The two get close and start to date which prompts Jason to seek out Desiree and wish for his life back. She grants his wish, but sends him back without his core. Danny goes to visit Jason but only finds his core with no idea what may have happened. Coming up next—he brings the core to Frostbite to try and heal him.
Q&A with Darth Frodo
Hey, everyone! Two years ago, this project started as a way to reach out to authors who had left some beloved projects unfinished, mostly to reach out to them and see how they were doing, show them appreciation, and see if they needed any support in case they wanted to finish their projects or just wanted to have fun sharing behind the scenes information and tips through a Q&A.
As a part of bringing this project half-back to life, I would like to present the first Q&A of this project, in this case with the one and only @darthfrodophantom, who returned after almost 10 years to the phandom to share the ending for "A Secret Uncovered".
Special thanks to @dp-marvel94 for the questions submitted!
If you want to find out other amazing authors participating, make sure to check out this recommendation list for the project!
❇️ About Darth Frodo ❇️
[AO3] [FFN] A multi-fandom writer who has also written for Danny Phantom since the show was still on air, Darth Frodo joined the phandom classics early in the Fanfiction.Net era with beloved works such as "Tortured Truth" (2006) and "A Secret Uncovered" (First published on 2006). The latter was left on standby as life happened, but Darth's desire to finish the story was always close to her heart.
Her love for identity shenanigans and the philosophical analysis behind characters also took her to explore other ideas and stories back in the day, but also recently as she returned to the phandom for events such as Ectoberhaunt or the DP Reality Trip AU Zine, for which she published delightful new adventures.
Now that she has rewritten all of her first vision for "A Secret Uncovered" and added an incredible ending and epilogue, we reached out to Darth with a few questions...
❇️ Q&A ❇️
Q: What inspired you to write your story ("A Secret Uncovered")?
Darth: Not sure if you’ve caught on to this based on pretty much everything I write, but I love identity reveal fics. I love the awkward tension that happens right before, during, and after the reveal. I love the moment where you just don’t know how it’s going to turn out. And I love watching the aftermath of the characters struggling to adjust. I really wanted to write an identity reveal fic on a huge level that involved everyone finding out, and it kinda went from there.
Q: Who is your favorite character to write and why?
Darth: I feel like I have to say Danny because he’s pretty much my POV of choice. His internal monologues are so fun to dive into because he’s witty and snarky, but he can also be so clueless sometimes. I love putting him into different scenarios and watching him struggle through them. But if I had to pick a character outside of Danny, I’d have to go with Jazz. I just feel like I get her. She’s the mom friend and the big sister who ‘s an overachiever, and I love that. Jazz can connect pretty obscure dots, be the emotional comfort, and a voice of reason, which are so helpful.
Q. Are there any characters or types of scenes (action, dialogue, ect) that you struggle to write?
Darth: I feel like I struggle the most with transitions. How do we move from one scene to the next and conveying what happened in the downtime we don’t cover? How do we give the readers a sense of the emotional or logistical events that happened without actually having to spell it all out, but also not make it too exposition heavy? I want to include the details, but I don’t want to bog people down with exposition and passive tenses. It’s contrary to that “show don’t tell” tenet of writing, but it’s also acknowledging that from an editing perspective, you can’t show every minute. (Of course this is now all you're going to pay attention to when reading my writing lol)
Q. This one is based on a screenshot I saw on tumblr of a tweet saying "writing a fic consists of having one scene you want to write and scrambling to come up with an entire plot just so you can write one scene." If this applies to your story, what is THAT SCENE for your fic?
Darth: I actually did! I literally pictured the scene where Danny walks into school that first day after his secret has been revealed and everyone stares at him and whispers about him and crowds around him. When I first thought of doing an “everyone finds out” identity reveal, this was the first scene that popped into my head, and everything else spun from that concept.
Thank you so much Darth for the time to reply to these questions.
To anyone reading, we'll bring back the Q&A part of this project before we reach the 20th Danny Phantom Anniversary, as a way to hear from beloved writers and celebrate our phandom.
Stay tuned!
Good ok a story idea where we are terrible with Danny. So I read ideas of the king/prince taken prisoner by his own people, the halfas are hyper fertile compared to the classic ghost, the classic man in white who captures him and experiments with him, vlad loses control of events ,that his obsession is love then turns into family, the justice league who summons a ghost king to fall on a Danny more than hurt than hurt, the Martians using mind reading to prevent disaster and establish communication, the young justice who is entrusted with Danny... Yes all of this combining
Danny makes a very big fight and ends up weakened, a hunter shot hits him directly in the core, he is taken to the ghost zone in an area where the time is strongly distorted so that very little time is spent in humans compared to time immence that a healing of nuclei needed, he is entrusted to Lunch lady and box ghost because lunch lady is the best to feed a human and boxi is extremely talented to return to the human world where he is not really seen as a real threat, moreover these two already share a lair for a while so they will cohabit without problem
The drugs to regenerate Danny's core are working well, very well, too well... lunch box born.
The ghost couple who have been looking for a child for a long time now are ecstatic and the news spreads quickly, very quickly, children born in the ghost zone are rare and difficult to have, many ghosts are in the same situation as boxy and lady lunch...
And then... lunch box is exceptionally powerful, more than its two parents combined... Even if the two ghosts would try to hide Danny's involvement. The timing is too obvious... it goes back to the observer
Danny's recovery, even far from the far frozen, is really going well, and even if the birth of lunch box was a weird thing, but he lived more weirder thing and everyone is happy. Danny returns to the human world not even a day later. And he comes back healthy and with a more positive view of live in the Ghost Zone.
There are still several big fights but not to the point of hurting Danny's core again but this last one takes the habit of recovering in the very distorted temporal area and the place somehow becomes his unofficial haunt.
Then Danny reveals himself to his parents by accident, it goes wrong, his friends try to free him but get caught, Danny is transported to the men in white. There is a new release attempt, his friends barely escape from the attempt..
He has decided to bring out the heavy artillery. The pharaoh's scepter is out, Sam uses the fenton peeler, some ghost helps. This time it works but Tucker dies during this, Sam is badly injured and eventually dies from his injuries.
The men in white recover pieces of the peeler and connect the rescue to the fenton.
Fenton work falls, the place is looted, the parents fenton already disown dies or is imprisoned, it is not very clear when Danny learns. .... he only has his sister, his sister who takes him alone in the zone without worrying about the risks for herself, his beloved sister, his last anchor...
Danny is in a comatose state and Jazz uses everything she knows to avoid problems and even learn more, especially about the true laws of the area. The observers are curiously useful but do not know them and their passive jazz has no real reason to suspect them
The observers are ecstatic, they manage to make this miserable human learn the rules of succession and they have just finished trapping the crown and the ring for the abobination!!!
Clockwork, there is closely watched but manages to put the justice league on the trail of the destruction of a government center, then on the secret department which was the reason for the targeting. Ensuring that no big attack hits Amity ville is already a little more complicated... But now that they are there with zatana and constantine present to investigate FW, he can let Vlad's attack go. Thanks to this, they discover halfa, discovering that the identity of Phamtom after that is not so hard, discovering that he saved their world several times alone either. Getting them to learn for the coronation is much harder though and he can't do it until it happens.
The coronation arrives, Jazz and Danny go there being told that it's the best way to unify the ghosts to counter the men in white while spanking them to stop harming the living. But the argument that we use observers to make Danny fall in love with the idea and the fact that it will legitimize jazz's safe place in the ghost zone. Jazz she thinks that the acquisition of royal artifacts and their ability to amplify the power of their bearer will make that no more human weapon will hurt her little brother. Jazz is not wrong....
The coronation is done in a small committee, a heavy cape is put on Danny's shoulders, keeping him on the ground during the event... it will never be taken away from him. The crown is placed on his head but instead of the flame ice filling on it and fixing it on his head, nothing is alarming and it's rather pretty... the crown ice is powered by Danny but not controlled by him and can cover much more than the top of his head. When they have to put on the ring he hesitates... but we promise him that it's not a rage ring anymore, that's not a lie
As the JL/JLD searches vlad's properties the ground shakes. They thus find the secret underground which was only accessible normally with ghost intangibility. But once discovered, thanks to deadmen, it is easy to use magic to circumvent this kind of problem. There he finds a jazz fenton who is no longer really a teenager just entering adulthood but above all who is dying on the ground, many vials of unknown substance on the ground while the traces indicate that she has somehow sort of crawling on some sort of mini spaceship that snuck through Vlad's portal to try and find something. She asks to save her brother in a last breath before losing knowledge. She showed her arm where she is tattooed with a circle of family invocation confirms once again the identity of Phamtom. By studying uthe ectoplasmic green tattoo, it seems to change automatically. Jazz is brought in but dies on the way to the watchtower.
They poisoned jazz, the observers poisoned jazz and only give him his medicine to not succumb to it if he keeps calm and quiet. He would do anything for jazz, the only one who loves it, for his big sister, for the last human, no, the last person who can be trusted. There is no way that the ghosts don't know what's going on, it's at least the 3rd child that exists with "his help". But it's for jazz, so he shuts up, if he's wise enough he leaves it with her...
It's been 2 children since he has seen jazz....it's her children numbers how many? he stopped counting when it moved the dozen...
The justice league on carefully preparing the circle of invocation modified from the family circle of jazz, now frozen in his death. The circle glows directly after it is finished, not a word or gift put in place, it briefly ignites before the flames become salagtites and frost devours the place. A supernatural blizard rages and shatters the salgtites into dust which coalesces into a hunched figure on the ground, two solid, glowing green eyes open and seem to stare directly into their souls.
Martian Manhunter steps forward and the blizzard stills, causing the room to transform from a storm to a suspension of small star-like crystals as the lights come back on with the receding frost and the temperature returns to normal.
Danny calls himself, he opens his eyes temporarily curious, only jazz knows the sigil he chose as equivalent to Phamtom, but it is clearly not jazz. Actually it's not jazz... it's... justice league? why now? he can't leave otherwise.. they have jazz, he can't leave.... As he is about to close his eyes again and deny the invocation a voice resounds in his head "They don't have your sister" He stops and concentrates on the advancing figure. "she came to us so that we can save you" pearls of tears flow while her real body is covered with frost preparing for the trip then in a breath he is done with his prison which has never really been golden. He doesn't even leave a snowflake behind him. He barely gets up from the circle when the cape covers him almost entirely, the crown grows larger on his head and his neck is frozen in the ice which continues to crawl on his body. The ring shines and all motivation escapes him as he collapses to the ground.
Martian Manhunter and others rush to grab him but he falls so fast, the cape pulling him to the ground. The ice slapping on the ground makes the station vibrate by the force of the shock. But this ice doesn't even have a small crack unlike the now deformed ground. Constantine swears violently by already taking out various tools and zanata has started casting various spells against the artifacts. the Martians informs the league about the altering mental state of their young guest.
When news of the King's escape breaks out, Danny's villains are confused. How's that for an escape? Danny's haunt has always been Amity Park. It is normal for him to leave the infinite realm. It was already strange that he stayed so long on his recovery island where the old castle was moved, they thought it was because there was no active king for so long. But now....
It takes several days and a lot of coffee to remove the curse on the crown and then even more time for that of the ring. But Danny's mind is now free and he panics, WHERE'S THE JAZZ! his calls and pleas for his sister resound again and again in a phantom height which denies any isolation or obstacle
Martian Manhunter is still the one to intervene as Danny panics at anyone else's approach. The Martians quickly inform them that the young king is somehow terrorized to be approached by humans especially in a medical environment and is left alone with him even if the JLD is just on the other side of the door or the glass. After many efforts and telepathic speech, the young adolescent finally calms down. .. until it is revealed to him the death of his sister
A cracking sound echoes throughout the Infinite Realms and all its subjects. The king's sister is dead. The sister who was under the protection of the observers after the coronation. The investigations (can be discreet) of the young king's acquaintances and the declaration of escape quickly replaced by a declaration of disappearance or abduction... The ghost people have many questions and the pain and dismay of their king resonating in them and the last taste. Dani recently back in the ghost zone most of the regulars of amity park and many citizens go to the castle and the council of observers who find themselves overwhelmed. Dani's core guides her into the council's basement. Accompanied by Embers Kitty and Jonny, Elle comes across almost forty young children who resemble her on a fundamental level. They are his children... but no... they are the children of his original. Dani isn't a fighter, so people forget about her, but she's barely below Danny in terms of raw power even though getting into it knocks her out.
A second echo from the king echoes beneath the council's location, this time in fury. A royal order is shouted to bring down the observers resounds in all.
The trio stare wide-eyed at Dani before she walks up to the kids and starts hugging them, everyone rushing towards her. They were like her, born of Danny but without consent, she won't leave them alone, she promises them in a low voice. the trio look at each other and nod, Jonny and Embers go back to inform people of the situation, the prince has been used, raped (even if not physically because useless with ghost biologic logic, it's still rape for me) Kitty pauses a hand on Dani's shoulder as the Phantoms cry now in an all too big group hug. But the question is that they leave Phantom and his family alone again, king, superpowered ghost, protector of amity park or whatever, it's just a human teenager doubling up as a ghost child.
The presence of two royal echoes, the Devastation of Mourning and the Fury of Betrayal, had another effect... A Dan breaks out of his prison. He doesn't know who's making him feel all this again, but he's not going to just stand still and take it. CW lets him pass. that is permission enough for him. He will first go to the source of anger.
So it was that a Dan who had just sensed the royal order moved in a straight line across the realm like a meteor slamming into the Watcher's Council building already there. half destroyed in the uprising of the people. It was not long before they were beaten until they retired to their pits at the hand of a Dan, a third king saluted by the people as he sent an echo informing of the fall of the observers. He didn't really understand the reaction of the ghost crowd or of his royal statue recunnued by his last but didn't delay more than that. Returning to the source of the second echo by cutting through the walls.
This is how Dan and Danny meet for the first time. Recognition then non-recognition passed in their eyes. Then Dan looked at the children, These children!!! not his children but definitely HIS family!
A violent echo of family claim over the group and Dan joins the giant hug and begins to talk to Dani (and kitty who is standing at a distance because wtf is this danny not danny who restrains his oppressive aura at 0%?!? (in fact if he represses part of it well) since when Danny is also powerful for Dani then this guy can unleash so much power then repress it just as fast in Dani's case) Dan understands the situation a little better, this Dany also experienced betrayal, the loss of his fear then again the betrayal then the loss of jazz... that's a lot.... he won't be able to manage everything.. .and with His children... no, Danny cannot go wild... Dani and he must find him while taking care of His children. Danny's echo is missing and his location is unknown, just not in the ghost zone... They are going to need help... And he's the only "adult"...he was an adult who has an obsession with family. Neither he or Dani like the idea but they have no other idea so... Vlad
Meanwhile, on Danny's side (and DC characters), right after danny sends the first echoe, ik starts crying uncontrollably, wail escapes and goes wild, John Jones has no choice but to phase shift him out and call in the Green Lanterns for backup. the small group finds itself in a catastrophe in the void, the lantern going together to maintain an air bubble around the children. For all of them, this seems to last for hours until Danny runs out completely and becomes has its human form and falls into a half unconsciousness.
There follows a very long mental discussion where Danny has no filter but also little coherence. The league must take a decision. They can't send him back to the realm of infinity, neither can they imprison him or put him in a comma just because of his power he's innocent worse he's one of them, a hero, a very very traumatized child hero with a lot of trust issues. They'll keep him in the station, in a room right against the void of space, and watched over by at least a Martian and a Green Lantern.
Danny wakes up with Miss Martian at his bedside and becomes attached to her immediately; not human not ghost and redhead, "winning" combos. Megan finds him adorable especially when he begins to follow her like a second shadow. The others find it a little disturbing the speed of it but Danny does not have another crisis and he speaks through the mental links to the Martians, then to the other through them then becomes verbal with the Martians and shortly after with the members of the young justice who visits him and Megan. in short, several litle arc of character to learn to trust again
Meanwhile other Vlad escapes/disappears. We don't talk about it to Danny and we don't hear about Vlad anymore. Even his money somehow disappears. The ghost attacks have been organized and meticulously target the buildings of the men in white only. But since they didn't call for help, no deaths were recorded and they were already on the JL's blacklist. They look away while watching for a possible development of the situation
Now the bulk of the healing period and Danny's return to normal with a lot of little character arc that I'm not going to describe because it's gods already super long
Danny finally comes down to earth and is installed in Mount Justice and follows Megan's daily activities except for missions and school. returning to the watchtowers during school time, he makes up for his absence there with a bespoke Bat-approved program. But he becomes extremely nervous with each YJ mission especially if Megan is on the front line, he is surprised on several occasions hacking the communications to follow the progress of the mission or in tinkering trains of the armaments for the team (he quickly secured mt justive and the ghost watchtower and give ghost weapons to any hero he attaches to, it became the sign of Danny's attachment, if he loves you and accepts you he gives you a sci-fi weapon). The only thing that seems to calm him down is when we finish taking him to force him into first care and then to emergency care, which is becoming more and more complicated. It still takes a long week and a lot of insistence from Danny for him to be allowed to help on a small mission. It's going well and the importance of the missions increases
Then a more public mission arrives and what remains of the men in white, amity parkeur know that Danny phantom is "alive", them and ghost but above all the new and large Phamtom family living in a huge mansion bought by vlad under a brand new identity, now know it's the JL/YJ who have Danny.
On the side of the Phantom family, it is going well. Vlad, after a period of adaptation, blossoms into being the grandfather/uncle of an army of children who have no liking over him and who let themselves be drowned in gifts and affection. They have so many different centers of attention! He uses and abuses doubles almost continuously. Suffice to say that he has a lot to learn to be able to follow everyone's passions, he no longer has a second to himself to even think of being a bad guy. And he would change his situation for nothing in the world!!!
Dan is a bit similar without the cascade of gifts, he is everywhere all the time, he named all the children so that their initial remains DP (because he finds it funny, Dani approves, Vlad is appalled but has to help offer more from name to D') With Danni he also organizes the volunteers for the raids on the men in white as well as the last faithful to the observer, who was barely countable on the fingers of his hands, almost everyone hating them without saying so, but hiding in the ghost zone is easy. It's Dani the most absent from the house. She does a lot of little running to the right and left so as not to appear on radar, spies and infiltrates the facilities of the men in white and prepares the assault of Dan's team, taking advantage of her appearance as a lost child / children thorough streets.
Many of Amity Park's usual ghost to see become honorary uncles or aunts. Boxy and lady lunch feel guilty that it all started with them but we took the situation head on, lady lunch cooks for everyone, boxy makes enthusiastic speeches about how to be a scared ghost and help Dani Finding supplies for children and building a network of parents of ghost children to help with ghost education, he is the first ghost to realize that halfas don't have the basic knowledge of ghost culture at their fingertips creation and decided to change that. Skulker is the one who stalks the faithful to the observers with Dan, the two become strangely very good friends (Skulker is also the only enthusiast to hear about the "good old days" when Dan killed everyone) Technus was the most versatile all-rounder, he is the one who moved money and created a vast network of bank accounts around the world, who organized the random programs to choose the places for the next food shopping, technological equipment and the many gifts. He eavesdrops on the MiW's electronic communications, participates in the raid to prevent things like emergency calls, and erases all traces of ghost activity. It is also fun to equip the games room with a multitude of video games and films even if his notion of what is ok for such and such an age is more than wobbly. Ember takes care of musical awakening and lullabies. She is also part of Dan's attack team. But she especially loves being part of the cool aunt and uncle group that sneaks in the sweets lady lunch disapproves of, with kitty and johnny. Kitty likes to take care of the youngest children but doesn't like having to be the time-out manager because neither vlad nor dan are able to resist her kids (and they know it) and is one of the few ghosts allowed to raise the voice over them. She is johnny love to teach them old slang and biker slang. johnny is much more absent because with Dani he is the main person in charge of the supply being one of the rare ghosts to be able to completely hide his ghostly side, that's his bikes we put him in the role. Moreover with his speed and Shadow at his side allows him to easily escape. He does it to complain too much time we leave it to him and kitty time and money for dating. He also had fun customizing the children's bikes with them and Youngblood behind the backs of "responsible adults". Youngblood is generally forbidden around the Phamtom/Masters mansions, if he is allowed it is under strict surveillance. But he infiltrates regularly, it is indirectly he who allowed the security of the manor to be so good. Amorpho passes from time to time but rarely and especially to relegate the information he has picked up right and left, he does not like to take risks or be at the manor and children but is part of himself who had quickly put away their side and accepts to take any direction on or seek information which is already a lot being really not a fighter. Fright Knight eqt the last but not the least strange uncle of the family, and Dan's trio of friends. In Danny's absence he considers him the king for orders but his equivalent for the rest. It is he who organizes the bulk of the forces for the attacks and who prevents the inhabitants of the kingdom of infinity from coming to earth to return to search for their king. When informal he is a tired man who likes to drink but bemoans the inability to get drunk.
(Clockwork is too busy keeping things going to be part of the family. Frostbite is the family doctor but stays far away so no family either. Princess Dorathea helps deal with the civil disorder but stays in the Phantom Zone. Cujo is Cujo. And I don't know what to do with Pandora, surely one of the civil calm helpers who occasionally helps in the raid. walker and wolf are too busy with their own thing I guess, one from the chaos of the ghost zone and the other from being a fugitive)
But now that the revelation that Danny is with the justice league is spreading, the balance of this more than chaotic royal family is called into question. Dan killed them all and had fun doing it, Vlad is already a criminal and will be sent back to prison directly so .... remains Dani, who is not keen on getting on the radar and losing his anonymity which is its greatest strength and treasure. But it's for Danny, she needs to at least check he's okay, tell him that she and her future evil as well as her worst enemies and most of her regular fighters are taking care of her unwanted children and her rauyaume just as little wanted and that he can stay having fun with his great friends and recover, they take care of the MiWs, don't worry .... yep it's not going to be easy
At amity park we don't know what to think, Phantom abandoned them? He's been missing for over a year now. Why did he never come back? ect Only the huntress intervenes to remind them that when Sam trucker jazz and she asked for help to save "their hero" they barely marched with a few banners for at least 2-3 days before returning to their lives. He owes them nothing and even she continues to care for some of the animal ghosts alone since never receives anything from them, hardly any thanks from time to time are rare. As if someone who fights ghosts for them is their due. But now that there is hardly any more attack is that small, she will leave, they have years to learn to defend themselves alone
The men in white are angry, the league is hiding Phamtom from them! They should have delivered to them from the beginning! Bad luck for them a case against them has been in preparation for a long time, moreover with deadman there is a prejudice that dates from before the ecto-act. They find themselves fighting for survival against the Phamtom/Masters family, fighting for funding and now in a legal fight with the league. Suffice to say that they are in agony
Dani therefore thought about how to contact the league. She can't get on their satellite, space is big and ignoring their security isn't exactly polite. Showing up at the hall of justice would really not be discreet and the MiW still persists so no. The SOS line to the league... that seems inappropriate. Plus they never showed up at Amity Park so that line of communication must have been compromised years ago. No, she's going to have to go to one of them in person. She should go to one without great capacity so that they are less afraid of being shadowed. hmmm. So she'll go to Batman! Besides, she's been wanting to visit gotham for a long time~
So we have a Dani who hangs out in Gotham, meets the town's ghost, then waits on the edge of a random rooftop who was advised by Lady Gotham. insert here the trope of encounter between Phamtom and bats
Now we have the conclusion of the story with the end of the men in white, the reunion of Dani (who does not say roof to Danny yet but whispers to him that she still has too much to tell him, she will come back) formalization of Phamtom as a leaguer. The reunion of Danny and Dani V2 without an audience this time. The visit of the Phamtom/Masters manor. Apologies from the ghost rogues for not understanding the observers' schemes. Forgiveness half given and the beginning of Danny's reconnection with ghost culture. A crowning of Danny accompanied by Dani and Dan who obtains the same rank as him. etc.
Perhaps a concluding arc with an end-of-the-world event where the presence and power of the royal trio Danny Dani and Dan is revealed. maybe with Vlad and the kids if we spend enough time. Let the phantoms come out of the phantom zone to help, in battle, to evacuate civilians and reconstruction or all three. Let everyone have their little moment.
Even conclude with Dan joking that fighting them is almost as much fun as killing them. Because even if he's a happy dad, he still has big problems in his head. Let the whole league look at each other and realize what they could have faced if they had made the wrong choices.
Then give the final words to CW who sighs with relief that he can finally take a break.
GENSHIN IMPACT VERSE POST.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
legal name. Lukyan Savinovich Gandilov Lukas Gandor nickname. Luka, Lukasha Luck age. 23 - 24 years old. However, through a series of strange coincidences & fortune, Luck is now among the few who could be considered long living.
unbeknownst to even the Hydro Archon, there is a small community of alchemy - created immortals within the Fontaine capital. starting from as far back as 2 centuries ago, a group of immigrated alchemists, seeking to escape prosecution for their practice, contacted a quote - unquote 'demon' to provide them the much coveted 'Grand Panacea' -- a liquor that, once imbibed, would grant you safety from age, illness, and injury. only one alchemist, Maiza Avaro, was granted the knowledge of how it was made. of course, no such Grand Panacea would come without its limits: those who partake in the liquor cannot hide their identities from one another -- they are forced to speak their true name in the presence of a fellow immortal. and, once they tire of life, they may seek one of their comrades out to 'devour' them -- an act of pressing a right hand upon the head of the immortal in question and thinking to themselves 'i wish to devour.' the one who devours gains knowledge from that immortal's life -- their memories, experiences, emotions, all of it. as you can imagine, a traveling group full of those who seek nothing but knowledge would find such circumstances tempting. slighted by Maiza's refusal to share such knowledge with the world, an alchemist named Szilard Quates started a mass 'devouring' spree in the hopes of acquiring said knowledge. among the victims was Maiza's younger brother, Gretto Avaro, who knew half of the Grand Panacea's formula from his older brother. Szilard disappeared during the same night, leaving the survivors scattered & fretful for his return. two centuries of silence followed. Maiza came to join the Martillo camorra -- a crime family claiming to be separate from the likes of the Gandors & the Runoratas -- and Szilard had set up a vast network in order to learn the formula on his own. on the day of his success, though, he was thwarted by a recently risen Martillo executive, a pair of eccentric robbers, his own created homunculus, and a spiraling staircase going down and down and down . . .
vision. cryo weapon. dual pistols ( catalyst ) species. human ( fox variant ) immortal constellation. vulpis fortunae country of origin. snezhnaya fontaine affiliation. the Gandor Family
on the surface, the Gandor Family seems like a respectable business. throughout most of the countries in Teyvat, they hold dominion over a prestigious chain of jazz halls, where patrons can come in to quietly imbibe their drink of choice while listening to the sonorous chorus of pianos & saxophones upon the stage. their most well - known and sought after establishment is the original Coraggioso in Fontaine proper. however, for those unable to make the journey, there are places of business with a similar atmosphere in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Sumeru. Luck is currently in the process of attaining a clearance for the now newly opened country of Inazuma. as any good regular of the Coraggioso would know, though, the Gandors' roots are much less wholesome than they appear. the original jazz hall gained its notoriety from being among one of the first speakeasies in Fontaine -- secret places citizens can frequent to bypass the Hydro Archon's harsh regulations on alcohol & liquor. this pattern is maintained throughout all the local establishments owned by the Gandors in Teyvat ; with only the knowledge of a secret password ( acquired through only the softest of whispers ), one can enter the real world beneath the jazz halls' flimsy mask of legality. in this world, you can gamble & drink to your heart's content -- so long as you are able to provide the Mora, of course. the Gandors do have other business ventures, among which include a protection racket. many places of business use them as a means of keeping their local edifices safe from harm when the legal authorities are incapable of being trusted. supposing you pay your dues on time, they can be quite reliable at fear - mongering. not that it is ever recommended for those aboveboard to do business with the Gandor Family lot . . . but, they have yet to dry up their coffers, almost in spite of their reputation. in speakeasy circles, the Gandors are most known for their quality production of fire - water and whisky, among which very few can compare in countries outside of Snezhnaya. as a result, their jazz halls are frequently populated by Snezhnayan travelers, businessmen, and off - duty Fatui soldiers ( on the grounds they behave themselves ). they also gain quite a bit of love from those intrigued by their wider selections, notably in Mondstadt & Liyue. the Sumeru location tends to be quite popular for mercenaries, due to the ease with which they can find business prospects there -- scholars & researchers tied to the Akademiya tend to avoid the establishment, if they have no need to meet or speak with Luck within its walls.
rank. third 'boss,' in charge of intelligence, information, and strategy.
due to the sprawling nature of the Gandors' family business, Luck is required to see to their establishments outside of Fontaine in person to ensure all is smooth - sailing. he also handles foreign business matters, being the 'face' of the family & the most well - spoken of the three. at this current conjecture, Inazuma's new foreign policy has granted Luck an ability to start placing down connections, in the hopes he will eventually be able to place an aboveground business there -- thereby masking their less - than - legal matters underneath. he returns home after long periods of traveling, but is often not present in Fontaine with his brothers as a result.
history. Luck recalls very little of their homeland. The Gandors, once known as the Gandilovs, are Snezhnayan immigrants victims to a system seeking to 'sanitize' their existence. Thus, their old birth names have been effectively watered down. Lukyan Savinovich Gandilov is now merely Lukas Gandor -- Luck Gandor, practically. He grew up with only the memories of this name, and nothing else. His father, Savio ( formerly Savin ), began to build a criminal empire based on connections & experience, having tried but failed to live peacefully in the Fontaine capital slums. Luck's life held no little excitement as a result of this chosen career, having now grown up only with the memories & knowledge of the Fontainian underworld. When their father died, Luck was 12. His brothers, along with himself, took the family business into their own hands, having a sort of pride watching their father pour blood, sweat, and tears over its functionality. Luck became the family's youngest capo at age 13 and, with that, gained his Cryo Vision. His life grew incredibly turbulent thereafter, refusing to cease thrill after thrill, death after death, blood after blood. Luck didn't imagine he could live after 20 -- now he was praying to barely see the cusp of age 30. however, on a fateful day, his prayers came true in the most twisted way possible -- immortality. unsought, unprovoked, brought to him by the most bizarre circumstances concocted by the coincidences of his best friend & co. now, a year or so after the shock has settled, Luck has found himself caught in a new conundrum of fear -- the apathy now lurking behind the cheapness of his own life, to which he can expend multiple & multiple times. as he crosses over Teyvat with his newfound companion in tow -- a young, excitable Pyro sword - wielder he had met under adverse circumstances -- he can't help but wonder what new miserable fate the Archons had in store for him.
So I was reading your lucifer stuff when idea popped in my mind. What if lucifer and chloe are going on new case, The dead body is 14-15 years old black haired boy.
While they're trying to understand what heppend, Ella (after taking pictures ) walking around the place, searching for clues when suddenly the same dead boy ( but in opposite colors, white hair, green eyes...) showing up in front of her, floating, point at the body and says: "hey! You found my body! Now, can you move so I can please climb back inside?"
(she's the only one who can see him ofc. And lucifer, but he's busy with Chloe)
Honestly, this is a fun idea whether you take the weird episode as canon (ie Ella can see ghosts) or just canon-adjacent (ie the story she's writing with that plot is not drawing on personal experience).
If this is an Ella who regularly sees ghosts, then she'd probably try to shush him and explain--through his protests--that even if she had the power to clear the scene of all personnel, he couldn't just climb back into his body and expect to come back to life. It doesn't work like that. She's sorry, he's dead, and she'll try to help him cope with that somewhere that's not here, but there's no going back, so could he please just wait for her quietly until she can get away from all these people and talk to him in private?
Danny, who is absolutely Done with the whole situation, doesn't think this is terribly different from what happened with the Fenton Ghost Catcher in the past, even if his other half is lying on the ground instead of talking to him. Being dead has never been a big deal to him because he's always been able to go back. It doesn't click for him that maybe Ella's right, that maybe this time, he can't. So what if he has a weird memory gap about what happened? This has Vlad written all over it. He can figure this out.
If this isn't an Ella who is used to seeing things no one else can (since presumably she wouldn't have twigged to Lucifer's reaction if he hasn't actively disengaged from the conversation with Chloe to follow up yet, and perhaps he hasn't even noticed that she can see the ghost, because he'd know Danny was a ghost, and therefore didn't think there was any rush), it would take her longer to realize that no one else is reacting to this, and she wouldn't be able to hide her own reaction. Thankfully, no one else is really paying attention, too focused on the work at hand. But there's this.... Spirit. Ghost. Lost soul. Who hasn't moved on, gone on to what's next.
I mean. Yes. She's heard stories about ghosts. Everyone's heard stories about ghosts. And being the subject of a crime scene isn't exactly the definition of someone being able to rest peacefully. But this would freak her out, be enough to have her clutching her necklace and whispering a few prayers. She knows the biblical stories of people being raised from the dead, knows exactly that that is what this ghost thinks will happen if he just settles back into his body--because it's definitely the same boy, even if death has somehow shifted his colour scheme--and knows that this is a golden opportunity to get some insight as to what happened because she could ask the victim if she could just make her mouth form the words, but this is just....
This isn't supposed to happen to her.
And there's definitely no one here with what she'd call saintly power, no one who could help the boy in a way she can't. (Ella's ignorance as to Lucifer and family would continue for a while longer if I were writing this fic. After all, why should she question it even when she finds out he can see the boy, too? Lucifer made a vague comment about it being a family trait, and honestly, for all she knows, it does. She's not about to introduce a ghost to her family to find out if that's the case with her, too.) But he doesn't look like someone who wants to listen to her say encouraging words about having faith that whatever is coming next for him will be better than what he faced here on earth. He looks like he's five seconds away from flying through her and trying to go back into his body and is only not doing that because there are too many people around, too many questions that would be asked if that same body got up and started walking and talking like he clearly thought it would.
How can she convince him he'll just pass through it now, like he is everything else, without letting him try and face that disappointment? How can she prepare him for that disappointment, to cushion that blow? How are you supposed to tell someone they're dead?
Danny wouldn't be amused, arms crossed, waiting for her to start listening to him because she's the only one he's been able to get a reaction out of so far, even if he's pretty sure he caught someone else's eye earlier, too. That guy is definitely next if she doesn't help, but she looks like she has the certification to be here and Fancy Suit Guy doesn't even if they aren't ushering him away from the scene like they are everyone else, so she'd have more power than him. If only he can convince her to listen.
Sure, it's weird that no one else can see or hear him--he's not invisible, and even if he were invisible, he's not inaudible--but he can figure this out. It's probably not some weird new power; it's gotta be because of how he was split from his body. He doesn't know how that happened, exactly; he wouldn't have spent the last however long searching for his body if he did, and frankly he'd have expected to find himself searching for his other half instead of lying in the middle of a crime scene, but whatever, he'll figure this out and fix it.
(He'd become a little more worried once he realizes that he's apparently intangible even when he wants to be intangible. Which means he can't even contact Jazz to let her know she doesn't have to freak out, let alone put Sam and Tucker on the case to see if any ghosts know what's going on. And, oh, crud, what is he going to have to do to convince Ella to keep them from contacting his parents once they find out his identity? If he shows up at home after being declared dead, they'll try to kill him all over again--probably even if Jazz breaks down and tells them his secret, if only because they might not believe her without some sort of proof.)
Cue Ella working on this case as much unofficially as officially, with Danny's snarky comments and death glares at Lucifer because they somehow got off on the wrong foot. (It is entirely possible that Danny may be under the impression that Lucifer is not an angel but is very much possessed; red eyes are a sign of being overshadowed, after all, and Vlad would find a way to try to control this situation once he realized it had spiralled sideways on him, because of course it's Vlad even if he's not reacting to what should be some very pointed jabs. Who else would pick the guy in the expensive suit and not, y'know, the detective in charge of the case, solely because he's convinced he can manipulate her just as easily without having to overshadow her?)
(more like this | the other DP/Lucifer stuff)
