Thanks to Peter Boghossian for advertising my work! How kind of him. He even seems to imply that he wish he’d written it.🥰

//In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court of Japan] on Tuesday said it was unlawful to restrict the use of bathrooms by a transgender woman at the economy ministry, overturning a lower court ruling. It is the first top court decision over bathroom usage by sexual minorities. The ruling — a unanimous decision by the five judges on the bench — marks a significant step forward for the working conditions of transgender people, and could affect how companies and government ministries handle similar cases in the future.//
In Japan, transgender people can only legally change their gender if they have had gender reassignment surgery. The woman in this court case was apparently unable to do so due to health reasons.

I recall saying this before, but it bears repeating:
There could be a billion trans people in the world and it still wouldn't be a bad thing because being trans is not a bad thing. Even if the rate of people discovering they are trans is "disproportionate" to trends from decades ago, that is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a natural consequence for there being more trans people being able to stay alive, and, overall, being able to live in a slightly more tolerant world. You'd only see that as a bad thing if you actively didn't want trans people to either live or live a life that facilitates wellness.

I approached Marine Ford looking for an alliance.
And found a grieving soul instead.
How fitting and cruel.

Law students expect infinitely more coherence from the law than the law is able to provide.
Nothing about criminal law makes sense. Teaching criminal law is an exercise in pretending it makes sense just long enough for students to be able to write an exam about it.
My internal monologue during course preparation: “Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha, I hope my students don’t ask about this.”
It’s not that I don’t know the topic well enough to answer. It’s that I have a table of Supreme Court decisions where they give five different answers to the question.
And yes, of course, I can just tell them it doesn’t make sense. I can remind them that the system exists to reproduce racial capitalism, not to make sense. But that’s deeply dissatisfying to most of them. They want certainty, otherwise they feel like they’re not on track to becoming a competent lawyer.
