Audio Book
I'm at a point in my life where I'm turning my book into an audio book, which is super cool, but I'm not the one reading. I got the chance to hire an amazing woman to do the reading for me.
my friends have been nagging me to make it into an audio book for forever, but i had been under the impression that in order to hire someone I had to pay them up front, and I've never had that kind of money, so I was sad and resigned to never having an audio book.
I was telling my friend about this the other day while we were at Wendy's, and a man paused to let me know he was an Audio book narrater. he found his jobs on a website where they could be paid with royalty shares, with no upfront payment.
this man is a mini miracle to me, that was only a few months ago and now my first audio book is in production! if you're looking for a way to start your career as an audio book narrater, or you want to get your book as an audio book but don't have the money for an upfront payment, I highly recommend this website.
the woman I hired has never done an audio book before, but is very talented and has a lovely voice, one that I feel is perfect for my book. It felt meant to be for us to work together and I owe it all to the man from Wendy's.

listen, I think audiobooks are great. I think they "count". I'm not bothered by people calling listening to audiobooks reading. however, I think a large part of the reason people are annoyed by this recently is that there are many, many people online saying, "I've read 300 books this year" and then posting a lot of stuff implying they are superior to (or like to read more than) people who haven't.
But then, all it takes is to scroll back on their profile a little ways to find out that they "read" 300 books because they listened to audiobooks on 3x speed while they were doing other things and flat out didn't listen or absorb any of it and couldn't tell you what 90% of those books were about even if their life depended on it. And THAT is not reading. If you're actually taking in the story, sure, then you've read the book. If you're speed running the process without paying attention, then no, that's not reading. I would say the exact same thing about skimming/flipping through the book.

Y’all weren’t exaggerating about Gideon. I love her. She’s got “the only human in a muppet movie” energy, except she’s the only himbo jock in a gothic emo tragedy.

dean uses cas as an angelic body pillow and sure it’s a little boring for cas just staring at the ceiling all night, but he’s been alive for a million years so he’s not too fussed. plus he enjoys his having his own personal weighted blanket
and then jack is like oh boy wait until i tell you about audiobooks

Me: hm, I want something to put on the TV as background noise... Huh. Looks like YouTube is recommending something called The Last Unicorn. That's perfect, it's probably some old shitty animation that has aged poorly! I can watch it ironically!
Me, 2 hours later as the credits roll: *crying, cheering, buying the book, composing the songs*
Me, 2 weeks later: So I have compiled all of the quotes from the book that I think could make good tattoos, and also, HOW HAVE I NEVER LEARNED ABOUT HOW THE LAST UNICORN FUCKING SLAPS??? This gay-ass little fairytale fed my soul! Watered my crops! Transed my gender! Can't believe I heard of this story from youtube recommendations, of all places!!
#original#the last unicorn#tlu#peter s beagle#molly gru#schmendrick#schmendrick the magician#two of my favorite characters in anything right there in the center of the story! and I'm glad I saw the film first!#my reading ability has diminished due to trauma disability etc. but it seems like having a visual reference actually really helped!#no wonder i only ever want to read fan fic! turns out reading is not actually Superior to other types of Storytelling. it's just different.#to say otherwise is snobbishness I have been eminently guilty of in my life!#but like it is easier for me to consume tv and movies and that is fine actually. also that's why I'm doing a graphic novel lol#because i wanted to make something i would actually be able to read if i found it at a library. altho the audio book IS gonna be bomb#the audiobook is for visually impaired readers and anyone who wants or needs it! accessible stories for everyone! yeah!!#my gender was already transed but now I've gained an ADDITIONAL gender! which one? I'll never tell 😘#i am so powerful i have so much fuckin gender. my wife has no gender. and she is equally as powerful.#and also she has STUDIED THE BLADE#mostly zoro's blades from One Piece#normally YouTube recommends me shit movies like idiocracy or smth this is like if every day ur cat brought you a piece of rotten food and#then one day it brings you a BEAUTIFULLY ANIMATED TALE FEATURING MY BELOVED TWINK FUCK-UP WIZARD FRIEND AND MY ALL-TIME HOMEGIRL MOLLY GRU#and also it's soft and beautiful and funny and fucking weird!! i wrote melodies to the songs in the books on my ukulele

I don't post much about nonfiction on here, but considering the strike this week I thought I'd share some of the books I've read on Palestine/Gaza in the last couple months. I got these for free from haymarket books & verso books (or my library). I recommend picking up some if not all of these.
The Hundred Years War on Palestine & The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine go into the last 100 years of Palestine's history and occupation
Ten Myths About Israel gives a bit of an more brief overview centred around Israeli propaganda
A Socialist Revolution and BDS go into history & freedom/rights movements & institutional boycotts, in Palestine and globally
Freedom Is A Constant Struggle connects Palestinian liberation movements with Ferguson and Black liberation in the US
They Called Me A Lioness is about the experiences of Palestinians in the West Bank, and a teen girls' 8 month imprisonment
Light In Gaza is various essays on different elements of oppression, resistance, and life in Gaza
The Palestine Laboratory is about Israel's military tech being developed & tested on Palestinians and how it's used all around the world.
Palestinian Walks: Forays Into a Vanishing Landscape: about how the occupation has changed the land over time and the effects of this

“Rae, why does this coin look so unique compared to the other yen?”
“Oh! See how this one has a face instead of the number of value on it? It’s because this is American currency, this here is a quarter, worth 25 cents. They have George Washington’s portrait in them.”
“That- That’s George Washington!? The first president of the United States!?”
“Uh… yah? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing! I simply, uhm… envisioned him rather differently than… this.”
Based on Even in the Next One !!! This isn’t an actual scene inside the chapters, but it’s just so easy to imagine them with how lively they feel. Please go give it a read if you haven’t yet <3
To @jobrrr : AUUGHH I’M IN LOVE WITH YOUR FIC!!! It has been a few months since I last became this invested in one :’D It just feels SO real and there are so many thoughts in my head as a result; hopefully I overcome my shyness and drop a comment proper sometime soon. Thank you for your service.
ALSO @melpymoo ! HUGE thank you for reading this alongside me omfg this is crazy, never before has a hyperfix been revived this violently 😭 Ty for granting me the space to be totally normal about these 2, looking forward to the rest of your reactions ^^

If I had a nickel for every time I listened to a dark romance comedy audiobook which included in it's trigger warnings "Desecration of a body" and "Accidental Cannibalism" I'd have 2 nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice🤔
