So, they planned random things to do together. Sometimes they go grocery shopping, sometimes they get ice cream… sometimes they even go to the bookstore.

Eddie loves the bookstore.

· Oh you just know that he’d love to join in on your stimming, if he sees you extremely happy so much so that you’re jumping and flapping your hands he’ll get really happy himself and join you in jumping which just makes you even more happy, also him just trying out different types of stims he has seen you do so he can find out if it’s something that could help him too

· He has some understanding of the struggles you have, since he had a lot of sensory issues when he was younger that he grew out of, but he understands that your sensory issues aren’t something that you can just grow out of like he did and is super supportive of your needs and wants to make you as comfortable as possible with him · We all know that stereotype that autistic people have no empathy and because of that stereotype we are basically seen as less human, well Clark thinks that’s ludicrous, if anyone you are one of the most human person he has ever met

· If you ever were having a meltdown that was so bad that you were hitting yourself he’d try to stop you by telling you to hit him instead (not in the face just to clarify) since it won’t hurt him, but you most likely wouldn’t do it since even though you are in the state you are in you still can’t bare the thought of possibly hurting someone you love, it melt his heart when he finds out why you won’t hit him but still would try to encourage it if that’s the only ways you can get out your frustration so you won’t continue harm yourself (he just ends up stopping the hitting completely and helps you find a different way to get out of your meltdown)

· The texture of his suit is fantastic! You could spend hours just running your fingers over it or just looking at the details on it, sometimes Clark will just find you having his suit on the table when you analyze it, it’s the best texture and visual stim in the world!

· His love language is touch but he will hold back until you are completely comfortable with him and tell him that you are okay with him hugging you and all those things · Calming each other down when the other is overwhelmed

· He loves spending nights with you watching movies/tv series and talking about each other’s interests, he just loves to see how happy you are during those moments and wishes they just could last forever

Riddle mistakes Yuu as childish at first but after some explanations he understands what they’re going through. One of Trey’s little siblings is autistic too, so Riddle goes to him for advice about the topic.

Yuu likes the way the petals on roses feel! The smell is nice too! Good sensory! Even though they’re not a student of Heartslabyul, Riddle allows them to assist in painting the roses red just to see them happy. Won’t admit it, but he has bouquets sent to Yuu every now and then when he knows they’re in a bad mood.

If anyone does anything that triggers or upsets Yuu, it’ll be Off With Your Head.

“I’m curious why you like the feel of roses? The texture? Is that so… I’m not sure if your interested, but you’re welcome to pet the hedgehogs anytime you’d like. I quite like the way their prickly little quills feel myself.”

Leona doesn’t care at first, thinking Yuu is a little annoying. But he accepts them pretty fast.

Yuu doesn’t like to eat meat because of the thick chewy texture? Ok, he’ll eat all the meat then. They can eat his vegetables. Ruggie despises Leona’s newfound loophole but oh well.

Sometimes Yuu plays with Leona’s tail while he naps and make little sounds with their mouth. Leona doesn’t mind, it’s kinda cute. But if they get too loud or move too much he’ll tug them down to nap with him. They fall asleep pretty fast so long as he puts a little weight on them. He even buys them a weighted blanket to help them sleep at night.

Someone made fun of Yuu’s stimming once. Leona broke that guy’s arm and leg.

“That you on my tail, herbivore? Heh, of course. You know Jack’s tail is probably much more fun to play with than mine …Fine, you can stay. Try not to get loud, ok?”

Azul witnessed when Yuu got excited over some jellyfish and started flapping their hands. Yup. They’re adorable and he would die for them.

Floyd has similar mood swings and behaviors, so he’s already prepared for anything Yuu’s autism may bring.

Yuu likes shiny things too? How fun! Azul loves the way their eyes light up when he shares his shiny trinkets with them. The happy sounds they make when they run their fingers over the bumps of seashells is far more valuable than any treasure in the world.

Anyone who makes Yuu feel bad about their autism is going to find themselves cornered by Jade and Floyd. No mercy.

Jamil does have to explain it properly to Kalim when he accidentally causes Yuu a panic attack with loud music. Now Kalim is extra careful.

When he learns about same foods, Kalim has Jamil make one of them for Yuu every time they drop by Scarabia. They’re so fun to talk with! Kalim could listen to them ramble about their interests all day!

Kalim keeps his pockets full of the Good Sensory things Yuu likes in case they’re having a bad day.

“Hey, Yuu! I’m sorry about the music the other day, I didn’t know that bothered you… What kind of music do you like? We can listen together! I’ll ask Jamil to get all your favorite snacks and we’ll make it a little party! Just the three of us!”

Yuu was so blunt with Vil about how he’s self centered and looks down on others once, it silenced an entire room of people. Except for Epel he laughed his ass off.

Vil doesn’t understand these behaviors for a while. Yuu doesn’t like makeup because the feeling of the products on their face is Bad Sensory? But how will they look their best! They have a tendency to hyper focus on their interests and ignore everything around them? How are they supposed to notice how handsome he is!

He’ll get used to it at some point but he’ll never get comfortable with their bluntness. It scares him.

Come on, like 85% of Ignihyde students are autistic or have ADHD, Yuu is nothing new to him. He’s super shy but he’ll do his darndest to make sure Yuu is comfortable at NRC.

Idia is always lending Yuu fidget toys, games, and other interesting trinkets for them to use. If Yuu is nonverbal or selectively mute, Idia and Ortho gift them a tablet they can use to talk with just like Idia. He also installs other apps for auditory and visual stimming.

If Yuu has any bad panic attacks or gets sensory overloads, Idia will be there for them with some noise blocking headphones, stuffed animals, and snacks. Whatever distraction they need, he’s got them.

“A-Are you calming down a bit? Um… oh, you watched that anime I showed you, right? Did you see the cat girl character? She’s super cute huh? Who was your favorite?”

Malleus doesn’t mind. Yuu is his precious child of man, everything about them is fascinating in his eyes.

Once when he was sitting down, Yuu impulsively started touching his horns. The bumpy feel was so nice! Malleus heard them make a happy sound and his heart skipped a beat. Aaand then Sebek freaked out over it, scolded Yuu and ended up scaring them into running away. Lilia put his ass in timeout for that.

Most of the time Malleus spends with Yuu now is pretty much him watching them do their thing with the softest look of adoration in his eyes. Hand flapping? Happy sounds? Rambling? Stimming? Absolutely everything Yuu does when they’re happy gives Malleus the warmest feeling in his chest. He spoils the heck out of them with the things that make them happy, especially when they’re having bad days.

His favorite thing to do is lift Yuu up in his arms so they can touch his horns. They’re so gentle and sweet, Malleus can’t stop smiling when he holds them.

“Loud noises are triggering you say? I see. I’ll make sure Sebek doesn’t yell around you anymore. I’m going to treat myself to ice cream today while I go for my walk. It’ll be quite peaceful. Would you care to join me?”

ghostbusters is literally the PERFECT autism rep and heres why

ive seen a few people say similar things to this but heres my take.

there are very clear traits of autism shown in Ray, Egon, and now Phoebe. the thing i love about it is that even though they may be called weird from time to time for their traits, they are still as important as the others and arent just written off as the quirky side character

all three of them are well loved by neurodivergents and neurotypicals alike and i think its because they are such a raw, honest depiction of people on the spectrum.

Ray is the kind of autistic person we dont see depicted much. hes charming, optimistic, and bubbly. he doesnt show some of the typical traits but he is still often shown being excited about his hyperfication in parapsychology and ghosty lore stuff.

Ray still does show some physical traits of autism too like stiff movements, monotone voice sometimes, lack of eye contact, and he also seems to express excitement through movements.

Now for Egon, i dont think he was ever confirmed like Ray but alot of autistic people still relate to him. he is portrayed a bit differently from Ray in the way that he doesnt really understand social cues, and also doesnt enjoy much physical touch.

Egon also is much more down to earth than Ray and tends to be a bit more relaxed. he is also shown as having a hyperfixation on just all science in general and as mentioned in the first movie, he loses sleep over this constantly and Peter has to bribe him into resting somtimes.

Pheobe is very similar to Egon in her mannerisms. just like Egon she is never confirmed to have autism, but i strongly belive she does. Her mom describes her as having "bad co-ordination" and is constantly trying to get her to open up and make new friends by telling them jokes.

Phoebe is shown having a clear special interest in science and we are kinda told that she struggles with most other things. Phoebe says that she "exhibits emotions differently" to other people but feels them all the same which is a common feeling in people with autism.

What i loved about afterlife is that even though she is labeled as being a bit strange, everyone surrounding her still encourages her to pursue her love of science and be herself.

She is so much like her grandfather and i love that even though she never properly met him before his passing, she still was able to connect with him through their love of ghosts and science.

Autism was never really talked about much when the first movies came out so thats why it was never really stated until later on but i am still so ecstatic i have these funky little ghost boys i can relate to.

this franchise was written by an autistic person, for autistic people and that makes me so happy. thank you to Dan Aykroyd for bringing your hyperfixation to life on the big screen all those years ago because it has now become one of my biggest hyperfixations.

And then? He listens. And listens. Every now and again, he will randomly bring up something you had said weeks prior during one of your info-dump sessions simply because the statement intrigued him enough that he keeps thinking about it

Author’s Note: So someone said I should do some more Queen Wanda Maximoff. I kinda wanna be a magic princess, so why not? Am I projecting myself onto the reader? Yeah, maybe, but I know there are some OTHER autistic girls who want to be princesses with magic AND love Wanda Maximoff/want to be with her/want to be her.

I’m kinda basing a bit of this off of my own experiences as an autistic girl, save for the relationship with Wanda because I don’t have the greatest relationship with my real mom. 

I’ve been wondering if I have mommy issues.....

Anyway, lemme know if you want a part 2 or if you want a specific set of headcanons.

We all know that Wanda is very sweet and affectionate with those she holds dear. Not a surprise, considering how much she’s lost.

So when you’re born, she can’t stop holding you and crying tears of joy. 

You’re her precious baby angel. And she’ll be damned if she lets you get hurt.

Immediately after she gives birth, she orders the servants to make her castle especially safe for you.

Wanda treasures you more than anything. Everyday she tells you how much she loves you.

Overtime, she does notice that you behave a bit differently. 

You’re sensitive to bright lights and loud sounds, you walk on your toes sometimes, eye contact makes you stressed, just to name a few.

You soon develop sleep issues and digestive problems. You wake up at night crying. Wanda’s always there to calm you down. 

Soon she has some worries; could this be some sort of illness? Symptoms of a plague? Would she lose you so young?!

And so she has you tested; the result is autism spectrum disorder. 

And it’s a relief to her, she practically cries out of relief; you’re not dying, you just think differently and have some extra challenges.

But she’s also extra worried about how the world outside will treat you; she wants you to be free to be yourself AND be accepted and loved by people. 

She’s seen how a handful of her subjects treat those who are different and she’ll be damned if you turn out to be in their shoes.

Wanda stays close by you, trying to figure out how she can best help you.

She orders the servants to build her little princess a sensory room for when things get too overwhelming.

You turn out to be a rather physically-affectionate child with those you’re close to, meaning that cuddles and hugs from your mother are a must for you.

Of course Wanda doesn’t mind. She loves cuddling you because she knows you’re safe in her arms.

As you grow older, you become more curious. Wanda wants to feed into this curiosity of yours, but also doesn’t want you to get hurt.

This especially becomes a predicament when your magic starts to show itself. 

You have the same magic as your mother. This is gonna get interesting.

And she knows it’s gonna be more difficult for you to control because you have *Spongebob rainbow hands with sparkles* emotional dysregulation.

She has to plan how to balance out keeping your security with feeding your curiosity.

Which is not the easiest thing to do, considering just how curious you actually are. 

The answer is very.

She has her servants search every part of the universe for the best tutors, but decides to rely on some of her old friends.

She resurrects her husband, King Vision, modifying him just a tad to make him as protective. 

She resurrects her brother, Prince Pietro, also making him just as protective.

Let’s just say it’s a lot of resurrecting and a lot of making them protective.

But they still know that she is the one mainly protecting you.

She assures that all of the servants are educated on you and your autism.

If any servant makes even the slightest remark about you having a “tantrum” because something’s too loud, either their tongue will be gone or they will be gone, mentally at least. 

As you grow older, it’s apparent that Wanda doesn’t trust anyone to court you, let alone marry you. What if they hurt her baby princess? She’s not going to let that happen.

You don’t entirely mind, at least not right away. You’re very close with her.

But she knows that when you grow older, there’s a chance you might seek someone to marry.

She’ll have to deal with that eventually, but right now, all is well.

Because everyone’s too afraid of the consequences to hurt the queen’s little angel.

so I actually headcanon Tate as being neurodivergent in some way like maybe autism or adhd

regardless, Tate is kind of the king of ‘accepting differences and what makes you special’

so anything that makes you special or just not like others is another thing he adores about you

he loves when you stim, only happy stims of course, and if you let him, sometimes he’ll stim back your most frequent ones

but more than anything, I think he really understands you

for example, feeling inadequate in school and not being able to complete assignments

he’s been there basically his entire life, and if he can’t help you (which he probably can’t), he at least makes you feel better when it upsets you

if you talk a lot, it’s never an issue with him. he loves good conversation, even if it’s about the stupidest things, he will 100% sit and listen to what you have to say

he’s a really good listener, and even when he gets quiet and you think there’s no way he’s still paying attention, he’s still listening

like for example, you are going on a long tangent about something you’re really interested in, and he seems to have been ignoring you, you’d ask him what you were just talking about, and he’d give you a complete play-by-play of your every word

he’s obsessed with you, how could he not soak in your every nonsensical word?

if you have trouble concentrating, he never minds it. he’s constantly all over the place, too, and if you are mid board game and you decide to quit and start vigorously solving a rubik’s cube, he will simply cheer you on

over all, Tate loves you for you, and adores what makes you different, so he never tries to change you in any way, like forcing you to sit and focus on something or anything you wouldn’t normally do

because he truly loves you and understands you, he’d rather exist alongside you in your chaos than try to tame it, because his life is chaos too, and now that he has you, he feels like things are okay even if they’re not perfect

i also hc Addie to have autism, so Tate’s always been around women who are neurodivergent, and it’s actually something he’s come to love in women

i think you’d get along with Addie a lot too, like you’d totally be besties and this would absolutely make Tate’s heart explode

he loves the two of you so much and to see you two being best friends would just make him fall in love with you even more

if you’re the type of person to stim to music (i am, lol) then he’d constantly try his hardest to look out for songs he knows you’d love

like i can imagine him curating an entire 5 hour long spotify playlist specifically dedicated for you to stim to (bc we all know he has a million more playlists made for you)

hurt/comfort autistic!eddie munson x steve where theyre at the store and its more crowded than usual, and the amount of people, noise, and bright lights overwhelm eddie too much?

people tend to ignore the fact that autism isnt just at home and it bothers me, sometimes you need to calm down right then and there. you dont choose when to have meltdowns it can happen anywhere and you cant just go find a quiet private place to calm down in a crowded store

i’m gonna be honest i’ve completely avoided writing eddie having a metldown in public because it reminds me of my own public meltdowns and i Don’t Like That

“Cereal, cereal, cereal,” Eddie says, following Steve down the isles of the grocery store. The word’s been stuck on his tongue for a while now. It sounds nice, doesn’t it? “Cereal, cereal, cereal.”

The repetition of the word… it feels nice to him- soothes him a bit. The lights buzzing in the grocery store are deafening today. Plus, it’s busy, and Eddie swears his brain is trying to process everyone’s conversations all at once.

“Eds?”

“Hm?“ Eddie hums, pausing his vocal stim.

“Are you okay?”

Eddie nods. “Fine.”

Liar, he thinks. Eddie knows he isn’t fine, but he doesn’t want to embarrass Steve. All he really wants to do is leave, go home, and enjoy complete silence. Meanwhile, he’s sure all Steve wants to do is have one peaceful outing for God’s sake.

Tears well up in Eddie’s eyes at the thought of embarrassing his boyfriend.

Then, it happens.

Somebody in another isle drops something. Eddie doesn’t know what. He hears the impact, then the shattering. Have the lights always been this loud? This bright?

“Eddie? Eddie?” Steve watches helplessly as his boyfriend covers his ears, and curls in on himself in the middle of the cereal isle. Thighs to chest, Eddie starts to rock himself back and forth.

It’s too loud, it’s too much. He can’t do this.

He’s crying now- crying to make it stop, out of embarrassment, out of sadness.

Steve realizes they’ve attracted a crowd. Eddie’s head is tucked into his legs now- too embarrassed to look up. Steve shoos the crowd away. “Nothing to see here- move along.”

Abandoning any and all intentions of getting groceries today, Steve crouches down next to Eddie. Still rocking himself, Eddie doesn’t look up. “Hey,” Steve says softly, “We’re going home, okay?”

“N-No, we-we need to get groceries! You said we needed to get groceries!”

Steve sighs. How could Eddie possibly be more worried about finishing shopping than his own well being? “I’ll come back later, it’s fine! I’m more worried about you than our produce!”

Sniffling, Eddie shakes his head. “No! I’m just- I’m just a freak! We can’t do anything without me acting like a fucking freak!”

Ignoring the hurtful words, Steve grabs Eddie and stands him up. Eddie whines, squeezing his eyes shut. Those lights are impossibly bright. Steve leads him to the car, ignoring Eddie’s protests. “I don’t care about the groceries, Eds. We’re going home.”

To Eddie’s surprise, Steve doesn’t sit him in the passenger’s seat. Instead, he piles them both in the back of the car. Steve lays Eddie down in the backseat, resting his head in his lap. “Deep breaths, baby.”

“I-I-I’m so-orry.”

“Shh, shh,” Steve coos. “Take a deep breath with me.”

Steve coaches Eddie’s breathing- careful in making sure he’s not hyperventilating. “Good job,” Steve says, “One more deep breath for me.”

Eddie does as told. Steve’s right, he does feel a little better now. The panic and overstimulation is easing up, but the embarrassment and sadness couldn’t be stronger. “I’m sorry,” Eddie says again.

“You didn’t do anything wrong.”

“I embarrass you!“ Eddie cries out. “We can’t go anywhere without me acting like a fr-”

“Eddie Munson.” Steve looks down, meets Eddie’s eyes. “Don’t you dare say that again. You. Are. Not. A. Freak.”

“Y-Yes I-I am!”

“Being overstimulated doesn’t make you a freak, Eds. Your brain just works differently- that’s all.” Steve thinks for a moment. “Besides, without that beautiful brain of your’s, you wouldn’t be able to do what you love.”

Eddie’s eyebrows furrow in confusion.

Shinobu Kochou x She/Her Reader

A/N: Here you go! I know that Autism is a broad spectrum of behaviors and experiences, so I hope that you, at least in part, find some of these points relatable. I hope I did an alright job and you like the headcanons! Sorry if the ideas seem a bit sporadic or out of turn, I tried to put related topics together. Warning: Very brief mention of self destructive behavior.

Getting to know you was a bit trial and error at first. Shinobu can be a little touchy, she thinks it’s amusing to get up in people’s faces and tease them. If you are the type that’s particular about physical touch or the type to take words at face value it may have been tricky getting to know each other at first.

She might have teased you about being too cute to be single and say something about having to ask you out herself sometime and if you were a blunt type of person who takes words at face value, you might have unintentionally turned the tables on her when you told her you would like that and asked when exactly she would be asking you out with not a trace of insincerity.

You caught her off guard and it was one of the rare moments in her life where she was absolutely speechless and visibly pink.

Shinobu tries very hard to learn what makes you tick. It might seem like she’s treating you like a subject to study, but I swear she does it out of love and interest! However, if her bottomless stare gets too intense and you ask her to tone it down, she will. She just wants to make sure you’re comfortable and she’s a tad overprotective to boot.

That being said, she knows you’re not helpless and knows when to give you your space.

Want to have a regular chore load like the other girls? You got it. Want to help in the infirmary or make medicine even? She’ll train you. Have a project that you want to oversee? Say no more.

That isn’t to say she doesn’t want you to say more of course. If you are excited about what you are doing and want to tell Shinobu every detail, she’s happy to listen. She likes to see your passion regarding your interests. It invigorates her. Don’t be discouraged if she works while you talk, please. She is a busy woman after all. She makes sure to engage you all the same, no matter the task at hand.

Speaking of invigorating, if she sees you stimming happily, whatever form that may take, it’s an instant mood booster for her too. She loves it, truly. Especially if it’s in response to something she does. It’s the best feeling ever. Nothing makes her happier than when she knows you are happy, feel safe and comfortable.

Conversely, if it’s a behavior you tend to do when stressed or overwhelmed, she’ll intervene if you would like her to. She’d take you to someplace quiet and familiar to decompress. If you’d like her to stay, she’s happy to do it for as long as she can stay away from her work. If you want to be left alone, she’ll respect that too, but might check in if she doesn’t see you for awhile. If you have a particularly damaging behavior you exhibit, she will try to help you latch onto something less self destructive to do instead.

Not much for physical contact? That’s alright. Shinobu can learn to keep her hands to herself or ask first before initiating skinship.

She is a little sneaky though. If you have a strong preference for certain textures of textiles, she will wear clothes made with those fabrics to entice you closer. She enjoys getting to sit with you while you run your fingers over the fabrics or rub your face on them. She thinks it’s cute and the gentle touch relaxes her as well.

Have a texture you hate? She pushes those clothes into the deepest part of her closet never to see the light of day again. Hate the feel of her demon slayer uniform or her haori though? That’s really unfortunate. Hold her hand or run your fingers through her hair at least, please! As soon as her duties are done she is out of her uniform and changes into something more favorable to your touch receptors.

Shinobu may get a little frustrated or discouraged at times if you have trouble focusing or communicating. She understands you may not be able to help it, but when she’s trying to tell you something important or time sensitive and you don’t appear to be paying attention, it eats at her a little bit. If you could give her some kind of little signal to show that the message is getting through, she’ll really appreciate it.

Shinobu does her best to keep you updated on her schedule, but it can fall apart quickly when missions or heavily injured slayers show up in need of urgent care. If routine is important to you, sorryyyy. Shinobu is just not always available even if she wishes she could be.

When she can afford to step away from her work and everyone else has everything under control, Shinobu tries to tell you before hand so you two can plan a date or activity together.

Shinobu seems like the type who would prefer to stay home and relax with how busy her life is, but if you are feeling adventurous and want to go out she would be happy to go on an outing.

If anyone tries to talk down to you or give you any trouble for any visible “unusual behaviors”, they had better hope it doesn’t get back to Shinobu because she will make them regret ever being born.

“What makes you think you know anything, hm? I’ve read hundreds of texts on the subject of humans and you certainly aren’t a pinnacle example of the matter. Imagine understanding so little about the science of human life. How embarrassing, I would keep my mouth shut if I were you.”

If you want to tell them off yourself she’ll be happy to smirk and giggle from the sidelines. She may still add a comment or two herself because she can’t pass up the opportunity to knock someone down a few pegs.

The regular residents of the estate enjoy your presence and they love the extra pep you put in Shinobu’s step when you are around.

If Kanae had known you she would have thought you the perfect choice to mellow out her sister and would have accepted you into the family immediately. Might have even asked you to marry Shinobu on her behalf. Shinobu would have perished on the spot if she knew.

Kanao vibes with you. Sometimes you two just gravitate towards each other, not a word spoken but you are both content. If you work in the infirmary with Aoi she values your attention to detail and organization skills. In general, she enjoys your company and feels comfortable asking you for help if she feels like she’s falling behind. Sumi, Kiyo and Naho enjoy your company and are also Shinobu’s little eyes and ears in case something is up. They enjoy playing games with you in their free time.

When Tanjirou and the crew come over, no one is offended if you decide to peace out. They are loud and overwhelming after all. They have all had some one on one time with you at some point though and they regard you with the same respect and love they show Shinobu. Even Inosuke tries to tone it down when you are near.

When all is said and done, you two are kind of a power couple, a force to be reckoned with. Organized chaos to some, you two just seem to get each other, but nothing just happens over night. Your dedication to each other is unmatched.

⭑ Eddie is so energetic that sometimes it feels overwhelming being around him. But then you get to know him; spending one on one time felt so special. 

⭑ With knowing him, Eddie doesn’t feel the need to be so eccentric 

⭑ Having his focus on you makes you feel so important (and you are important), but it’s his talent, his gift, that he can make someone feel like the most important person in the world. 

⭑ When you tell him you’re autistic, he completely understands. And no, this isn’t unrealistic. Because I genuinely believe Uncle Wayne got him tested for ADHD, ADD, Autism and the testing people were like: ugh, yeah probably. To like ... all of them. 

⭑ So you feel connected to Eddie in that way. 

⭑ He understands that a lot of people to get you - how you feel, how you perceive things 

⭑ He asks what your favourite things are and always collects them for you (guitar picks, or crystals, maybe books, or playing cards.)

⭑ Oh and I feel like when driving with Eddie (because he does drive you everywhere, he knows you don’t like public transport. And maybe you’re too anxious to drive?) this one time you saw a stray kitten darting across the road at 11 at night. 

⭑ Before you could ever tell Eddie to pull over, he was already on it - his mind getting so excited because he’s always wanted to rescue an animal and nurse it to health

⭑ It was a little ginger kitten with a leg missing and you scooped him up and brought him to the van to get warm. 

⭑ You’d either take it to the vet or because that’s too much money, you both researched how to look after it and eventually, it lived with Eddie. 

⭑ You both settled on the name, “pup” after the song Master of ‘Pup’pets. (get it?)

⭑ He loves talking to you about fantasy/fiction because it helps him with DnD. You have a lot of knowledge about that certain topic and he loves it

you know I think the reason I like autistic!Jack so much as a concept – it's not really a headcanon to me because we don't see too much of Jack, more like a what if type thing – is because it's all about healing from and breaking the cycle of generational trauma and decades of ableism, whether internal or external.

because you have hotch, who navigates through life easily enough most of the time, it just took him a couple of years (decades) to figure out what exactly it is he needs for that. and he's happy! he's fine as he is. and sure sometimes it bothers him a little that there seems to be this... ease that he's lacking when it comes to trivial things but really, it's a minor thing.

and autism isn't mentioned, because why would it be? he knows what it is, in that vague sense of outlines from what he's read and heard over the years, but it isn't particularly relevant to him. it's other people and other people's children. and there's nothing wrong with that. he just isn't like that.

except then he has a son.

and then his son has signs.

hotch is back to looking and this time it's with fresh eyes. this time he knows what he's trying to find out, because jack isn't autistic (and there's nothing wrong with that if he was, but he isn't). right? and jack gets a little older, the signs stay, and hotch isn't too concerned. so what if he walks on his toes and lines up his toys? he'd done that as a kid and he's fine.

after haley, jack's school counsellor suggests that some signs she thought were results of grief might actually be something else. hotch disagrees because jack is just a kid, he doesn't need some label slapped on him. he agrees to let them do it though, because they say the assessment will give them a better understanding of his needs regardless.

see, if jack was autistic, that would be bad. not jack himself but the condition. it's shameful. it's the kind of word hurled around as an insult. talked about in hushed tones. the kind that got his father to storm out of a paediatrician's office that time he was ten. and it's flapping hands and obvious signs that might as well be a crosshair on his back and hotch can't let him go through that, that isn't who jack is, and he'll outgrow it in a year or two anyway.

then jack is autistic.

hotch researches like he's never done before. even the uncomfortably familiar parts. even the stuff he thought was pathologizing normal behaviour. the habits he grew (was forced) out of. the tendency to run in families.

and...

that's him, too.

it's still a shameful word when he searches online for providers who assess adults. still when he hears them say it. and the letter he receives at the end of all of it, well, that's a strange mix of relief and shame.

mainly relief.

so you have hotch and jack. a loving father and his son. and hotch is beginning to see the effects it had on him when he was treated as diseased, broken, bizarre for who he was. they didn't know it by name but it was there all right. he knows what it's like growing up inside those rigid boxes.

he can change jack's path though. he can research more, he can talk to reid and garcia about jack, then the team, he can understand the difference between jack's actual needs and what everything, everyone says he should let him have. and he can watch jack's face light up because his uncle spencer and aunt penelope are like him!!! for all of five minutes until he goes to show them the new toy he got the other day. the companionship sticks with him though. gets him through the handful of kids who try and tease him sometimes. he can listen as jack tells him this, and his heart hurts and swells with pride both at once.

autistic doesn't remind him of shame. it makes him think of his little boy.

and it's harder to implement what he's learnt into his own life, breaking the patterns far far older than jack, to lend himself the same compassion and understanding. hotch tells jessica first, and she isn't really surprised. neither are reid or garcia but he'd seen that coming. jj, prentiss and morgan are just relieved that what he said he had to tell them (accidentally quite ominously) was nothing bad. dave is legitimately confused not at his being autistic, but his sudden decision to let him know 'now' because dave had twigged it within about a year of meeting hotch and just assumed he was keeping it to himself.

they're compassionate when he can't find it in himself to be.

and jack never knows any different. sure, there are the kids out there and their snide parents but what does that matter when his family are there, their love unconditional? when three of the coolest people he knows in the entire world are like him, why would he be upset?

it's a hard journey for hotch. it's worth it all when he can sit back and watch his son absentmindedly stimming watching tv and knows jack will never think of himself as lesser.
