my favorite headcanon is that the twins were raised by their 107 year old wizard grandparents. i love this in modern aus as well... they are strongly out of touch with kids their age because they only grew up interacting with Incredibly Old People

their parents are entirely out of the picture to me. this could be for any reason, but i think they died. hence why the twins were packed off from cairo to england at a young age

(my further headcanon is that it was dragonpox that did them in. the rosier clan is just generally historically pretty sickly & wispy & unearthly & prone to coughing frailly into a blood-splattered napkin on a fainting couch) (those eyebags are hereditary)

i don't think they were abused!! their childhood was pretty fine!! this sets them apart from the other skittles in a way that's interesting to explore (this is part of why barty is so entranced by evan, especially early on. he notices the one slytherin pureblood child who doesn't flinch at slamming doors)

NEGLECT, HOWEVER, is central to how i characterize them. their grandparents didn't give a single fuck what they did, so long as they turned up to formal family dinner. they barely saw them

the rosiers were raised by a lackluster revolving cast of private tutors & nannies but like. BARELY. and they were always skiving off lessons with zero consequences

Rosier Manor is a far-flung country estate, which compounded the isolation. it's an ancient pureblood house but very decrepit, with lots of old rooms to explore & doilies on tables & moving hallways. less oppressive than grimmauld place. it's airy and a bit overgrown with plants and surrounded by greenhouses. unexpectedly pleasant (if not a bit unbecomingly country-ish) considering how creepy both the twins turned out. that was all just them.

their upbringing was highly Formal but not Strict, if that makes sense. the twins were good at playing obedient (if quiet) matching golden-headed darlings for the brief hour every day they had lessons or meals with their grandparents, but the rest was theirs to explore the grounds. there were expectations to follow, but they never felt extremely Stifled. just bored

as any reader of this blog can tell you. rosier twins being homeschooled up until 3rd year is CANON TO MEEE

pandora inherited the estate. i think it was encoded into her blood because she was born the Male Heir. but evan would be the one to actually move in, had he lived.

one of the headcanons that i truly stand by is sirius, james, the slytherin skittles/ the pantheon (except for dorcas) are all so polite and well-mannered.

i mean yes, these blokes were notorious for being mean, troublemakers, and have a bit of psychopathic tendencies (i’m looking at pandora & the slytherins) but you can never catch them slouching, i mean sirius tried once (as an act of defiance) but in the end he hated how it made his back feel.

you can always see them walking around the halls of hogwarts with pristine posture (making them more intimidating than they are), you can see how tidy they eat when they are at the great hall, not to mention how most of them are invited to the slug club (where their table manners are really showed), and when anyone from their circle finally gets an invite, these are the first people they go to for fashion tips to make sure that they are dressed appropriately for the occasion.

these children were raised by purebloods, high members of society, they are expected to behave as a true heir should. even james.

james, having the greatest childhood in comparison with the others, is not saved from the hour long etiquette session held by a tutor (or in his case his mum). people are forgetting that is father is a literal business man & potioneer with one of the greatest wizard inventions ever, they were definitely invited to some balls and expensive galas where james needed to act “proper”.

I think we need to let the Black family be more eccentric. And I hear you all saying "oh but fancy pureblood standards" and this is where I get you and I draw you in

We have such a misconstrued idea of what fancy pureblood standards would be in the wizard universe. Most of it I personally blame on edits. Editors don't have access to movies that portray characters wearing funky looking wizard robes so they often go for more victorian looking styles especially for the Black family but just for pureblood families in general. Please please please don't take this as a complaint but ahhhhh I need people to acknowledge the fancy wizard robes that the Black family undoubtedly wore.

Like,,, even if you argue that wizard robes are more of a special occasion thing, that just adds to the point because the Black family would wear that all the time because they're "so much better than everyone" and every day is a special occasion if you're rich enough with the right social standing.

Also, we know from the way their home is described in the book that they're not above being a little eccentric. I mean,, they've got a cut-off troll foot for an umbrella stand and they hang the heads of their previous house elves on plaques on the wall for entertainment. They had a tapestry made to show off their ancestry with fancy gold embroidery in it (if I remember correctly). Like they're out here serving maximum wizard cunt

I think a lot of people get stuck on what high society standards of muggles are and they push that onto the purebloods in this universe, but it's noted how different muggle customs are from wizard (and especially pureblood) customs, so would it not make more sense for a family such as the Black family to try and act as opposite of that? I think this is especially seen in the way gender is portrayed in wizard society. Long robes that border on being dresses are commonly worn by well-respected men in wizard society and we also see wizard clothes that use a lot of vibrant colours, glitter and embroidery.

Also just if we look at those really fucking rich people with so much generational wealth they hardly know what to do with it (aka old money like the Black family and many other pureblood families) a lot of them are unapologetically eccentric. It would just make sense for wizards to be similar

I personally have a headcanon that the purebloods are very fond of lace. It's all homemade, by housewives and the more intricate and the more of it that there is, the more it's a sign that you're a family of good standing because the women are able to stay at home and focus on their lacework. I also think the colour of the lace would send a signal about where in society a family is placed. Black thread is notoriously hard to work with, so if you've managed to create a shirt full of many layers of intricate black lace then clearly you've spent a lot of time on it. I also think these pieces become heirlooms, because that shows that not only did the current generation of the family live up to this standard, the generations before them also did.

On top of that, I think a lot of pureblood families were really big on jewellery. They had all sorts of things for different occasions, many of which were also heirlooms. I could see it being some sort of coming-of-age thing to receive a pair of grandma's earrings or something like that and I 100% imagine that all the pureblood boys ran around with signet rings on after a certain age as well.

Also,,, I just think it's kinda funny to imagine Walburga trying to stuff Sirius into some lacy half-gown-looking robe before she adds a tonne of jewellery and goes "this belonged to your namesake, aren't you just proud?" or something like that

Peter nodded, "I might come join you, Mum's place is always packed during winter."

Peter smiled back, "Yeah. The Potter's made you your own guest room right?"

"Oh, I forgot you haven't seen it! It's much cooler than my room at Grimmauld Place."

Sirius laughed, "Absolutely not. Maybe I want my mother to have a fit, but definitely not Mia. But Monty got me these proper band posters and there's this huge Queen one over my bed, and last summer when I flooed to the Potter's, me and James stole this traffic cone so that's in there. Oh, and Mia met me in Camden as well and she got me all these muggle clothes and Marlene built me a cupboard to put it all in."

"It sounds nice, can't wait to see it."

Sirius grabbed Peter's hand to drag him to the next classroom, "Merlin, neither can I. And you can borrow any of it, of course. I actually got a guitar for when you come over."

Sirius tousled Peter's hair before glancing at his bag of dung bombs, "Only got a few left", he sighed.

Peter held his hand out, "Pass them here, I was thinking if we put them on the doors instead and leave them open then the smell would reach to a further distance."

Sirius instantly perked up, grabbing Peter's face and quickly giving him a kiss before turning to the windows, "Make sure all the windows are shut as well!"

Peter, cheeks still bright red, walked over to shut the remaining open windows.

I hate, HATE IT, when i see people online that ship Draco Malfoy with Hermione Granger, make Astoria Greengrass, a character that we know NOTHING about, a bad guy.

Or people who say that, Narcissa and Lucius forced Draco to get married to her, but he loved Hermione.

Astoria was a bad mom.

After Astoria died, Hermione took her place etc, etc.

Stop it . You know nothing about Astoria, but if you used your brain you would realise that she was actually very liked. She was a good person who supported Muggle borns, and that is why Narcissa and Lucius didnt like her . She was nothing like the Malfoys.

Astoria was an amazing mom and wife. Both her son and husband were devastated to lose her, and Draco nor Scorpius ever replaced her .

Stop putting down characters that do not deserve it, only so that you can enjoy your fics and ships.

The HP Epilogue: JKR's trashfire ending to a trash book series

I was reading snippets from the epilogue for the first time and everything about the epilogue is just frustrating. And I want to share things I found intolerable about it to let off steam. These are MY opinions so if you feel differently, I am happy for you. But here is a summary of my gripes.

The names of the Hinny Harry's kids

James Sirius. Albus Severus. Lily Luna. I can empathize with wanting to honour people you love by naming your kids after them...but this is just overkill. Not one of Harry's kids has an original name. Not one! And I said Harry's kids because it seems like Ginny had absolutely no input in the names. If I am being generous, maybe the Luna name was hers, but given the naming pattern of the kids, I am sure that Luna references Lupin and not Luna Lovegood. Sometimes I feel as if Harry has a domineering vibe in Hinny and the kids' names are not doing any favours to combat that. Not surprising as everything about the Hinny romance was dictated by Harry's wants. Who cares about Ginny?

Muggleborne discrimination is bad but pureblood discrimination is A-ok

‘You’re right, sorry,’ said Ron, but unable to help himself, he added, ‘don’t get too friendly with him, though, Rosie. Granddad Weasley would never forgive you if you married a pure-blood.’

I could not believe my eyes when I read this. It's like Ron forgot that HIS family is pureblood! It's the same vibe as a black parent telling their black or mixed kid not to marry another black person! Luna is pureblood! Neville is pureblood! Do the Weasleys have some kind of self-hatred?? Another point to purebloods slowly dying out but who cares? As far as JKR is concerned, the wizards should be aiming to all be mutts with mixed blood :)

BTW the Scorpius/Rose pairing fills me with revulsion. I like Albus and Scorp as friends though! But not so much as lovers.

Marriage is the only way to be truly part of a family

Got some heavy Hinny vibes from this line of dialogue. Harry did not become a true Weasley until he got with Ginny after all :)

I know Lily is a kid and she means no malice, but I truly felt disgust towards this line. It just bothers me, especially in the context of Hinny and how Ginny functions as a way for Harry to become a Weasley member. Teddy is Harry's godson, he should be like a big brother to Lily. How does becoming a cousin-in-law make him more of a family member compared to being her surrogate big bro??

Do Hogwarts alumni swear an oath of secrecy?

‘And you don’t want to believe everything he tells you about Hogwarts,’ Harry put in.

He had never told any of his children that before, and he saw the wonder in Albus’s face when he said it.

So James Sirius is telling Albus Severus exaggerated tales about Hogwarts similar to what the Weasley twins did to Ron. But how is this possible? Do the parents not talk about Hogwarts to their kids? If my kid was going to my alma mater, I would tell him/her all about the school when I went there. I don't understand why it seems like parents don't talk about Hogwarts. At least Draco's parents seem to talk to him about the school at least.

Muggle abuse is still funny Ha. Ha.

Remember that Ron is an Auror! A wizarding cop! But nah muggles are still lesser than wizards so even a guy like Ron who's supposed to be a good hero character feels no shame in messing with their autonomy. Ron is literally so disgusting in the epilogue. Never thought I would end HP finding Ron the least tolerable of the trio when Ron is usually my fav of the 3. Not that the bar is very high for the other two.

JKR really does not like Draco

His hair was receding somewhat, which emphasised the pointed chin.

Of course, JKR can't end the series without throwing more shade at Draco. He's rocking the middle-aged man look, only has one kid and has a love interest that we know squat about. And then in CC, Draco's wife dies! Sigh, I really hate Drastoria...

All is not well

There is still house discrimination. Magical creatures likely still have fewer rights. Aurors like Ron and everyday wizards abuse their powers against muggles. Purebloods are dying out. Wizards like Albus act like they did not grow up in a magical world, aka wizards still have low brain cell counts. But sure, Harry's scar is fine so ALL IS WELL!

I can't believe there are people out here calling JKR a good writer! I see the vast potential of the book series and I feel so sad sometimes. I am so happy that HP never existed in my childhood.

this is very niche but a part of sirius and regulus’ living situation growing up that i think about sometimes that hurts my heart is that they were likely never taught any sex education.

and i don’t mean just the act of sex and consent— although i’m sure those conversations were severely lacking as well— but like. puberty. i don’t think walburga or orion would ever talk to them about those things, and we all know hogwarts didn’t teach that, so those poor boys must have been so confused and worried for so long.
