oh to be listening to this song for the first time again... with the phenomenal build-up, the feminine rage gets me every time. and I don't care that I'm in a healthy relationship or that my dad would give up everything and run to me if I called. it's everything else that fucks you up as you grow up and learn what being a woman means even in this world where you're "equal".

3. FUMD by Amelia Moore, jxdn

such a beautiful, magical song. I am in love with the vibes even though it's so full of rage, it tells a way more complicated story, this is a wonderful piece of art.

4. HOPE by NF

hope. this word was the most meaningful thing in the last month. I've lost all my hope a long time ago, but I'm seeing so many signs that good things can happen to me as well. NF is the biggest inspiration and helps a lot with his music.🖤

5. Fighting Myself by Linkin Park

love love love the vibes! this is one of the "new" unreleased songs and I love every minute of it. I didn't know what everyone else was talking about when they said what a huge cathartic experience Lost was but this song... this one is that for me!

6. Elk Grove by David Kushner

I'm so happy this song made it to the playlist because I had some huge thoughts regarding this one. I know the song's about someone who passed away but as I was listening to it one day I realised: this song describes real love the best. I always struggle with toxic relationships, this image of my (very fucked up) "kind of love" and this song.... this is proof there's so much more to life & love than the shit you might go through and feel stuck in.

7. Bleed It Out by Linkin Park

this song has real great vibes: going out, drinking, summer, having fun. maybe because I have all these memories attached to the song, but somehow it feels so much like freedom for me.

8. deepfake by brakence

old favourite, seems to be stuck on the list, but it's a great song so I understand it lol.

9. Daylight by David Kushner

I've been waiting a bit too long for this one. in the first couple of weeks it's been great and I loved it but the passion is missing because we had to wait so long so I'm not listening to it anymore, no matter how great the song is.

10. Something To Hide by grandson

this! now this is a gem. I've been listening to it for a while now and seen that the whole new album is out already. I'll be listening to the other songs as well because grandson is such a talented artist.

Empfehlenswert für: Zugfahrten, Wartezimmer usw. - leichte Lektüre für zwischendurch, manchmal ganz charmant.

Something to Hide: A Lynley Novel

Autor*in: Elizabeth George

Inhalt: Eine junge Polizistin stirbt nach einem Schlag auf den Hinterkopf. Ein Teenager versucht, seine kleine Schwester vor FGM zu beschützen. Zwischen den Fällen gibt es Schnittstellen und der Fall schlägt Wellen, da er nicht nur für das Team um Lynley, Havers und Nkata Fragen zu strukturellem Rassismus und Integration aufwirft.

Kommentar: Beklemmend. Manchmal vielleicht zu oberflächlich, was die gesellschaftskritischen Themen angeht. Lynleys persönliches Drama nimmt mich überhaupt nicht mit. Havers' sprachliche Entgleisungen sind bemerkenswert. Winston Nkata ist ein Schatz.

Empfehlenswert für: Fans der Reihe; Fans englischer Krimis (wobei manche Beziehungen und Anspielungen im persönlichen Umfeld der Ermittler*innen verwirren können)

The Night Gate

Autor*in: Peter May

Inhalt: In einem Dorf in Frankreich stürzt ein alter Baum um. Zwischen den Wurzeln wird das Skelett eines Luftwaffe-Offiziers mit einem Loch im Schädel gefunden. Zeitgleich wird ein paar Häuser weiter ein Galerist aus Paris brutal ermordet. Enzo Macleod, Polizist im Ruhestand, ermittelt und stößt auf Zusammenhänge, die in der Vergangenheit liegen - genauer gesagt, in der Verlegung der Kunstwerke des Louvre während des Zweiten Weltkrieges.

Kommentar: ...ja. Eigentlich mag ich Peter Mays Romane ja. Aber dieser hier...uff. Erstens spielt er nicht in Schottland, und auch wenn May selbst in Frankreich lebt, das Land kann er nicht so gut rüberbringen wie die Hebriden. Zweitens ist es ein Band aus einer Reihe, die ich nicht kenne, weswegen mir Enzos Hintergrundgeschichte fehlt und er und seine Familie mir nicht wirklich am Herzen liegen (oder sonst irgendeine Figur aus dem Buch, die sind alle recht wenig sympathisch). Drittens habe ich ein massives Problem mit Mays Art, von Deutschen und Deutschland zu schreiben - sowohl in der Gegenwart (er benutzt für eine Figur ständig das Wort "Mitarbeiter", als wär das eine aussagekräftige Berufsbezeichnung, gibt Menschen Anfang 20 Namen wie "Hans" und "Lise" und lässt sie astreines Englisch sprechen, Enzo dann aber mit "Herr Macleod" ansprechen) als auch in der Vergangenheit (vielleicht ist das die German guilt, aber ich würde nie so oberflächlich und unkritisch über Wehrmachtssoldaten, Göring und Hitler persönlich schreiben??).

Empfehlenswert für: Tha mi duilich, Peter, aber das kann ich wirklich niemandem guten Gewissens empfehlen.

Inhalt: England, 13. Jahrhundert. Adela of Waringham und ihr Milchbruder und bester Freund Bedric Archer werden getrennt, als Adela an den Hof von Prinzessin Eleanor und ihrem Gemahl Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester, geschickt wird. Bedric hingegen hält die Unterdrückung, die er als Leibeigener erfährt, nicht allzu lange aus und flieht nach London. Er ein freier Mann, sie eine verheiratete Hofdame, treffen sie einander doch immer wieder und werden in die politischen Auseinandersetzungen zwischen Montfort und seinem Schwager König Henry III hineingezogen.

Kommentar: Rebecca Gablé schreibt einfach toll und schafft es, auch wenn sie gewisse Muster und Tropen wiederholt, einen immer wieder in die Welt der Waringhams hineinzuziehen. Man jubelt und zittert mit den Figuren, kann das Buch kaum aus der Hand legen und lernt nebenher noch so einiges über die englische Geschichte.

Empfehlenswert für: Fans der Reihe, aber auch Fans von historischen Romanen im Allgemeinen - dieser hier ist das zweite Prequel in der Waringham-Reihe und kann daher nicht so oft mit Bezügen zu früheren Ereignissen verwirren.

one morning he's making breakfast and wade appears next to him, bumps his forehead against logan's temple lightly and says "mornin'" before going straight to the bathroom. no slapping his ass, no peppering kisses to his face, no loud and annoying nonsense, not even a good morning and all logan could think about is oh he doesn't like me anymore, he's tired of me, he's gonna kick me out soon but all that left his mouth in the end is "the fuck is wrong with you?"

Granted, that’s probably not the first thing Danny should be saying to the guy that just bit the curb, but in his defense; he’s not running on 100% right now either.

The man -- tall, towering, and broader than Danny is tall -- whips around on his heel, black frayed cape flaring out impressively. Danny would've whistled in appreciation, but he takes the time instead to wipe the back of his hand across his mouth, smearing the blood running from his nose across his cheek.

"Sorry." He blinks widely, not even flinching as the man with the horns zeroes in on him. "That was rude of me. I have a really bad brain-to-mouth filter; Sam says its what always gets me into trouble."

And she's not wrong either, per say. His smart mouth is what landed him in this situation -- with blood blossom extract running through his veins and cannibalizing the ectoplasm in his bloodstream. Thanks Vlad.

The man grunts at him; a short, curt "hm" that shouldn't make Danny smile, but he does because he's somewhat delirious and probably concussed. The man keeps some kind of distance, sinking towards the shadows of Gotham's alleyway like he dares to melt right into it.

If it's supposed to scare Danny, it doesn't work. Danny's never been afraid of the dark; he's always been able to hide himself in it. He blinks slowly at the mass of shadows.

"You look hurt." The shadows says, blurring together around the edges. Danny squints, and licks his lips to get the blood dripping down his chin off. Ugh, he hates the taste of blood.

"I am." He says, "My godfather poisoned me. M'dying." The agony of the blood blossom eating him from the inside out looped back around to numbing a while ago, so all he feels is half-awake and dazed.

"Hey," Danny stumbles forward towards the man, a bloodied hand reaching out to him. "You-- you're a hero, right? You're not attacking me; which is more than I can say for most costumed people I've met." Maybe it's a poor bar to judge someone at, but he's already established that Danny's not in his right mind.

The man makes no change in expression, but Danny realizes blearily that it's hard to tell with the shadows on his face. He stays still long enough for Danny to latch onto the cape -- stretchy, but almost soft under his fingers.

He looks up blearily into the whites of the man's eyes. "Can you help me? I don't-- I don't wanna die." Again. He doesn't wanna die again. He blinks slow and lizard-like. "I mean- I'll probably get to see mom and dad again, but I told them I'd at least try and make it to adulthood."

There's a clatter down the street, and Danny's ghost sense chills up his spine and leaves a bitter, ashy taste in his mouth. He immediately knows who it belongs to even before the deceptively gentle; "Daniel?" echoes down the way.

"Daniel? Quit your games, badger, Gotham is dangerous for children."

Danny's mouth pulls back, and blood spills against his tongue. "Please." He rasps, and grabs onto the shadow's cape with both hands. "Please. He's going to kill me. Please--"

"Daniel? Is that you?"

His lips part, dragging in air to plead with the darkness again. He doesn't need to, the whites of his eyes narrow, and the cape whirls around him before Danny can blink. Soon swaddled in shadows, the Night lifts him up, and steals him away.

Guys, its not some fucking “bad luck devil” or whatever. It’s clearly this fucking time gargler or whatever the fuck that’s behind all this nonsense. Aguefort literally lays it out for us that the quangle makes things happen out of order. Things like, say…Zelda and Gorgug being broken up even though we know from the Seven that they’re still together in Junior year, or Aelwyn suddenly moving out and going from a snarky 19 year old whose never had a job or gone to college to a middle school teacher with 5 cats in the course of 3 months, or the sophomore album being 10 months late even though Fig only finished her debut a little over 16 months ago AND they were in the middle of the tour, or Hallariel and Gilear getting engaged after like a year when 3 months ago Gilear wasn’t even allowed to sleep in her bed, and Sklonda defending one of the organizers of this folk festival when the festival hasn’t even happened yet, or Figs birthday suddenly moving from Christmas to July.
