Hi! I saw you have a triple major and double minor and I’m wondering what that’s like?
I’m considering a double major and single/double minor
If you wouldn’t mind, what is your combined workload like how how does having three majors impact that? Also, how will your degree be affected by having three majors as opposed to one?
If you have any other advice in the area I would very much appreciate it, thank you :)
Hi!
At my University, it's not that difficult. I came in as just a Political Science major. After the first semester, I added International Relations. I just added History coming into my sophomore year. I had a lot of AP Credits from high school so that covered a lot of my Gen Ed requirements. My International Relations degree is 1/2 the curriculum from Political Science and 1/2 from History, so why not do them both? Plus, my minors also end up being classes I would already be taking, plus one or two extras.
Right now (1st semester sophomore): I am finishing two gen-eds, two political science/IR classes, and two history classes. Depending on what kind of course it is, I spend anywhere between a GOOD, FOCUSED hour to four hours of work, in a typical week. I have procrastination problems though, and on my worst days, I end up working straight through 10-4 classes and then 8:00-1:00. Most of my classes count towards multiple degrees. For example, my Comparative Politics class counted for both Political Science and International Relations. The same goes for classes for my minors.
I have plenty of time for clubs and socializing! It does not consume all the time and some of my club requirements take MORE time than some of my classes (I spend more time doing community service for a club than I do studying for Spanish 102).
At my university (I can't speak for all of them), it is 120 credits to graduate. If I want to earn the degrees (diplomas?) for all three, it's an additional 30 credits per degree. So to have degrees in both Poly Sci and IR, I'd need 150. 180 credits if I want to include history.
Granted, I say all this as a humanities major. I have friends who are double majors in STEM fields or triple minors in STEM fields. For a lot of them, it ends up being about 18 extra credits if it's something related (For example, it's 18 extra credits to double major in Mechanical Engineering and Physics).
My best advice? Ease into it. A lot of people change their major once or twice. It's ok to start off as just one thing and switch to two things or two completely different things! Time management. Study your college's website and know what classes are required. It surprised me how many of my friends didn't know some of their required classes! Be confident in yourself and know when to say "no" when it might result in you being overwhelmed.
Hope this helps! Best of luck <3

you're getting distracted again. focus.
drink a cup of water, tie your hair up, pull on your comfiest clothes, get your desk clean and ready, print out past papers, set your notes out, turn your laptop on, turn off all distractions, take out your stationary, open your books, take a deep breath, and just start.

identify your triggers
what causes you to procrastinate? is it fear of failure, perfectionism, boredom, or overwhelm? recognize your triggers so you can address them head-on.
2. break it down
big tasks can feel overwhelming, leading to procrastination. break them down into smaller, manageable steps and tackle them one at a time. progress, no matter how small, is still progress!
3. set clear goals
define specific, achievable goals for yourself and set deadlines. having a clear target to work towards will keep you focused and motivated.
4. create a game plan
plan your day ahead of time and schedule dedicated blocks for tasks. set realistic timelines and hold yourself accountable to them.
5. eliminate distractions
identify distractions in your environment and take steps to minimize them. whether it's turning off notifications, finding a quiet workspace, or using website blockers, create a conducive environment for productivity.
6. use the pomodoro technique
break your work into intervals, typically 25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5 minute break. this technique can help increase focus and productivity while preventing burnout. (this really helps me personally!)
7. practice self-compassion
be kind to yourself when you slip up. we're all human, and occasional bouts of procrastination are normal. instead of dwelling on past procrastination, focus on what you can do right now to move forward.
8. find accountability
share your goals with a friend, family member, or coworker who can help keep you accountable. having someone to check in with can provide an extra boost of motivation.
9. reward yourself
celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small. treat yourself to something you enjoy after completing a task or reaching a milestone. positive reinforcement can help reinforce productive habits.

yall like to pretend that "don't split up" is the most obvious rule in any horror scenario, but what's the alternative? stick together and cooperate ? to find a solution? in a life-or-death situation??? babe surely you have been in enough group projects to guess how that shit ends

15 Productivity Hacks 💻💭📝💡
Use the Pomodoro Method. Work in focused intervals (typically 25 minutes) followed by a short break. This helps you maintain high levels of focus and gives regular breaks to rest.
If a something takes less than two minutes, do it immediately.
Schedule specific blocks of time for specific activities. This helps in dedicating focus to one task at a time.
Group similar tasks together and tackle them in one go. For example, respond to all emails at once rather than sporadically throughout the day.
Contrary to popular belief, multitasking can reduce productivity. Focus on one task at a time for better efficiency.
Use apps and tools like Trello, Asana, or Notion to manage tasks and projects.
Use the Eisenhower Box or the ABCD method to categorize tasks based on their urgency and importance.
Keep your workspace tidy. A clean workspace can enhance focus and reduce distractions.
Even if one doesn’t exist, setting a deadline can create a sense of urgency.
Large tasks can be overwhelming. Break them into smaller steps to make them more manageable.
Aim for excellence, not perfection. Sometimes waiting for something to be perfect can lead to procrastination.
If someone else can do a task, delegate it. This allows you to focus on tasks that only you can do.
Working for long hours without a break can lead to burnout. Short, regular breaks can help maintain high levels of focus.
Use apps to play background music/noise that enhances concentration or block all notifications to prevent you from checking your phone.
At the end of the week, review what you’ve accomplished and what needs to be adjusted for the coming days.

Summer is Over!
Summer is over. Not officially, anyway. But I move back into my dorm in 3 days. In 4 days, I start training to be a Resident Assistant. Then, in two weeks, classes start.
This summer was actually pretty good. I had some goals, most of which, I didn’t succeed in.
Spanish - This fall will be the first time in almost four years that I’ve taken a Spanish class, and I wanted to do some work on Duolingo and Drops to prepare. I haven’t done that. I started re-writing and review vocabulary from my last Spanish class, but that is it.
ASL - I haven’t touched ASL at all. It’s more a personal goal for me, to become familiar with it, but so far I haven’t been able to work on it.
Internship - My on-site internship ended 2 weeks ago and I officially finished when I sent in my paper at the end of last week. It was a really valuable experience and I learned what I don’t want to do with political science from the experience. In the end, that’s all I really wanted to get out of it.
Self-Care - My mental health has been a disaster since early March and it hasn’t changed much. I go through little stages where things get better or worse, but no real change.
I’ve been trying my best, but I didn’t have much success this summer. I’m working on solidifying goals for the fall semester right now, so let’s see what those end up being!

TIPS TO STAY FOCUSED
phones: keep your phone in another room, turn it on do not disturb, make your colour scheme black and white, delete apps that have you losing focus, set time limits.
set timers: set a specific time to study for, and then reward yourself with a break. for example, study for 45 minutes and have a 10 minute break; this can be adjusted throughout the day.
during breaks: do not use any devices during your 10-15 minute long breaks. instead, walk around your house, walk outside, stretch, get your legs moving. in your longer breaks, do something fun. talk to friends, family, read a book, watch a film.
sleeping: get to sleep as early as possible and try to sleep for at least 8 hours. sleep is essential to retain memories and without sleep you're likely to not remember anything.
atmosphere: keep your desk as tidy as possible, turn on some lofi music to study with or white noise, whatever suits you best. keep water beside you at all times.
i hope this helps, and i wish you luck on your study journey!
